Reason: In essence, IPs "demanding" that Wikipedia not write about a certain candidate as-is according to NPOV, claiming without reliable sources that another fits the bill (and that it's "biased", as expected). 2601AC47 (talk) 21:12, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

- Declined I don't know what an "unauthorized group" is here. Also, you could have warned them or, better yet, left them a note. Also, you could have explained your edit in an edit summary--all this, plus the complaint, is actually disruptive. Drmies (talk) 02:51, 1 November 2024 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 13:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. The history of protection of this page warrants one year semi-protection to mitigate some of the issues that have occurred recently and the inability of PC to reasonably deal with the cadence of problematic edits. However, by my review, the edits introduced by autoconfirmed editors -- largely not rising to the level of BLP violations -- are of a different character than those made by the IP editors and the non-autoconfirmed editors and exist on the precipice of what could be characterized as a content dispute. Before EC is applied, there needs to be some evidence of discussion failing. However, there is no discussion on the article's Talk page and, insofar as I can tell, no discussion on the individual Talk pages of the editors in question. Chetsford (talk) 20:05, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Getting vandalized by IPs due to recent news events. Since I created the article years ago and have it on my watchlist, I'm recusing myself as involved, but if I were seeing this edit history for the first time I'd be very strongly considering some semi-protection Daniel Case (talk) 18:46, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Pending-changes protected for a period of 24 hours, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. As of the timestamp, by my count, there have been seven recent edits to the article, two of which were obvious cases of vandalism by IP editors, two were reverts of said vandalism, one was a zero byte copyedit, and two -- by registered editors -- added content that's probably WP:UNDUE and poorly sourced, but can be addressed through the normal process of discussion (however, the last attempt at discussion on the Talk page occurred two years ago). That said, I have no doubt that, due to recent events, PC protection will not be sufficient and will need to be adjusted to something more substantial. I'll plan to watchlist the article as well. Chetsford (talk) 19:44, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Unprotection: No reason for this when the parent template isn't even protected. Gonnym (talk) 08:59, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- The reason you protect a redirect is not the same as the reasons you would protect the target. The target, Template:Hebrew audio, IS protected, btw, just at a lower level (semi). This makes sense as few people watch redirects, so the possibility of undetected vandalism is much higher for that redirect than the template. I'm not inclined to unprotect as I don't see how the protection is actually stopping anyone from making a legitimate edit, but will leave open for another admin to review. Dennis Brown - 2¢ 09:44, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Not unprotected – Concur with Dennis Brown. Favonian (talk) 10:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Page has been blanked several times, or sourced information has altered, with editors noting a desire to keep the content secret. However, this is content that is already extensively reported in published and online sources. This page has existed and hosted essentially the same chart since 2005, but the first attempt to remove it was not until 2021. Maltice (talk) 20:04, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 60 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. I'm not sure 60 days will solve the underlying issue, but it's the best I can do given the short history of page protection. If this is insufficient, it can be re-reported and protection of longer duration applied. Chetsford (talk) 20:14, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – I don't what happened, but there are multiple IPs vandalizing this page to insult this guy. I believe he won some competition, and people didn't like that. Gaismagorm (talk) 20:44, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Frequent vandalism since 16:01, 25 May 2024. Alith Anar 13:39, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. While the article does appear to undergo spates of vandalism, in the last 30 days there has only been one instance of vandalism, by an IP editor which was almost immediately reverted. Our WP:NO-PREEMPT policy requires protection be applied for the shortest period possible to stop the disruption. There is no period of protection short enough to arrest a single instance of vandalism. However, if a pattern emerges, please re-report. Chetsford (talk) 19:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

- Declined – Warn the user appropriately then report them to AIV or ANI if they continue. There have only been two recent problematic edits to this article, one by a probable WP:COI editor and the second almost certainly by the same editor forgetting to login to their account. At this time, there are less onerous way to mitigate this issue than protection. Only once those methods are exhausted can we protect this article. Chetsford (talk) 20:21, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Long term repost of unreferenced sentence written in future tense, mostly from a single domain. The vandalism is being signed now with various Sri Lankan names in the edit summaries, so it's probably a bunch of kids having a laugh. - Checking to see if protection is necessary. M.Bitton, is there substance behind your revert beyond
Per WP:ARBECR
? Because I don't like that being the sole reason mentioned. That is, but by itself, it comes across as one of my pet peeves, as seen in the essay Wikipedia:Don't revert due solely to "no consensus" (i.e. non-substantive reasoning)... Otherwise, beyond this one single revert by you today, the page has not seen any meaningful edits, really, in many months. El_C 23:42, 2 November 2024 (UTC)- @El C: the notice at the top of the article (when trying to edit it) says "You must be logged-in to an extended confirmed account" and my understanding of ARBECR is that non-EC editors are limited to making edit requests (related to articles within the topic area). Also, I did leave an appropriate welcome message on their talk page. That being said, I have no problem self-reverting (if you think that the revert was unnecessary in this instance). M.Bitton (talk) 00:01, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- No, I have no opinion or objection to either the addition or its removal (I'm not allowed to). But you are allowed to object on various grounds, like WP:DUE, WP:RS, etc., so I'm just wondering if such reasoning exist in this instance. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to decline (inclined to decline?) as WP:PREEMPTIVE. Yes, I realize the instructions (for WP:ECR ≈ preemptive) is a bit contradictory, and that mileage does vary among admins for that. Regardless of what your answer is, I don't think you did anything wrong. I'm just trying to clarify if there's content grounds behind your revert, because if so, yes-protection; if not, likely not at this time. El_C 00:49, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Hello, I would like to request Extended confirmed protection for the The Bloodline article. There are too many accounts making too many changes against Wikipedia's policy and guidelines such as No original research, Fancruft as well as straight up vandalism by editors with no regard or little knowledge of how Wikipedia works and due to the popularity of the article there is simply no way to control it and it is slowly descending into chaos. This is why I request this and I hope this issue can be fixed. Lemonademan22 (talk) 14:07, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Maybe you can show us some diffs where autoconfirmed editors have been doing these things? Because from the last month's history it looks like the current protection is working. Daniel Case (talk) 00:10, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. At the start of the month and towards the end autoconfirmed editors (usually with no user page) have been adding unsourced material, changing paragraph subheadings, adding bare references and messing the article up. Today I had to change about a dozen things back to normal. The current protection, in my opinion, doesn't work and isn't sufficient if I have to go ahead and revert everything they do constantly. Lemonademan22 (talk) 00:18, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: There is a consistent pattern of POV pushing and a biased agenda from this IP. IP user claims that Crimean Tatars are descended from Anglo-Saxon settlers during the Byzantine era. He is using a non-reliable news source about Anglo-Saxon settlers, but the source does not mention any connection between Crimean Tatars and Anglo-Saxons. In fact, last citation does not even contain word "Crimean Tatar" It'd be great if an advanced editor or administrator can shorten the Tatarization section of the article.
He also doing a similar thing to Crimean Goths. I attempted to discuss this issue with the editor on the talk page of Crimean Tatars 9 months ago, but they have continued to engage in edit warring in different time periods. Some of their IP addresses were blocked earlier this year. This is straight vandalism at this point. I request a page protection for few months. Auzandil (talk) 11:06, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

- This is urgent. 174.30.12.241 is clearly watching the page and putting false information as propaganda attempting to influence the vote that’s happening tomorrow. The text of the amendment is in the article and you can clearly see that what they’ve repeatedly put in the heading (that many users other than myself have had to remove multiple times) is a lie. - That same editor (as it is clearly the same person) has reinstated that same lie within a day of it being removed by three separate editors on three separate occasions. They reinstated it after I removed it *less than half an hour later*, and they will certainly put it up again as soon as they wake up today. And we are talking about misinformation with the potential for extreme consequences here. *Please* get some experienced editors to watch the page in anticipation of that so they can quickly revert it, at least. 2600:100A:B1E5:AEBB:24EE:D181:45CF:41D3 (talk) 07:12, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Under subtitle: Distrubution and habitat. ADD When it comes to their natural habitat, red pandas have a smaller home range of 3.4 km^2, while the giant pandas have a home range of 6.3 km^2. That's about a 30% difference in their ranges. Both species cover 481 meters of daily distances and frequently visit the same bamboo patches, but their activity patterns are different. Here a few diffs that were previously asked for that can show my point further [4] [5] (Most of this had to be reverted by another editor) [6] These are just a couple of examples but these editors edit the page against the template set out and provide unecessary details and unverified claims and it needs to be put right otherwise it's just going to continue, and just for referencing purposes [7] this is how it should be set out and this was before most of the disruptive editing occured. If you need any more diffs to prove what I'm saying is true or if there is any need for further proof, please let me know in the reply. Lemonademan22 (talk) 21:52, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

- Seconded, the current semi protection was obviously insufficient to prevent the latest blanking and page move vandalism, so the page protection should be raised to ECP per WP:AMPOL and logged in the CTOPS logs. Raladic (talk) 02:25, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

- I don't even know what CTOP is, let alone what to do with it, so I'd welcome any assistance. If it's only for AMPOL-related arbitration enforcement, it shouldn't be logged; in my protection summary I said May fall under WP:AMPOL too, but this isn't arbitration enforcement; it may be removed by any other administrator. Temporary semi-protection: Very hot-topic article about a squirrel which somehow has become an American political issue. Lots of back and forth edits going on and being reverted, fighting over whether the squirrel was "euthanised" or "murdered", people adding links to the squirrel's owner's onlyfans (which I think must be a new sentence).
As such I think semi-protection till at least a week after the election wojld be best. CoconutOctopus talk 19:13, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Consider the edit warring noticeboard – This is a case of possible edit-warring by one or two users. The two editors most visibly arguing about whether euthanasia is a motive or a method are both extended-confirmed; it would take full protection to stop them and, of course, that would stop everyone else and I am loathe to do that with an article about a current contentious news story. But maybe ANEW would see this differently. Daniel Case (talk) 03:07, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
Reason: Both edit and move protection due to recent disruptive page moving, as well as IP edit-warring from multiple addresses regarding the name of the station. The name of the station is indeed planned to be changed from "Aviation/LAX station" to "Aviation/Imperial station", but this is contingent upon the opening of LAX/Metro Transit Center station a few miles away. There has been some confusion with the station's name as of late, especially with automated train announcements and Metro staff announcing "Aviation/Imperial station" as the name. Thereby, any changes to the name of the station prior to the opening of LAX/Metro Transit Center station, according to the latest source provided, will be sometime next year, are all premature. Temporary full protection: High level of disruption due to edits made outside of consensus. An RfC was held months ago to determine how we should handle the election. It was determined that [t]here is clear consensus to only include a state's projected electoral votes in the infobox once all major media networks unanimously make a projection.
Despite both notices on the talk page and article when editing about this consensus, edits are being made when even a single source calls a state, leading to Wikipedia to current be ahead of a number of major sources. Requesting temporary full protection as a result. Super Goku V (talk) 02:03, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Comment: Super Goku V, can you please clarify if this matter is resolved or not? It is nearly impossible to tell from the history. Perhaps doing something simple like creating a table on the talk page with the names of the specific media organizations as well as each state, and posting a link to each organization's call for that state, may help everyone to resolve this situation. I really hesitate to fully protect a page that is reasonably expected to change minute-by-minute. Risker (talk) 02:14, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- The matter is not resolved. We are reporting Harris at 99 EVs while ABC reports 30, CBS reports 30, CNN reports 30, and NBC report 34. I will say that your idea for a table might work better than the discussion so far. --Super Goku V (talk) 02:23, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

Please help me in creating the page Module:Sandbox/பொதுஉதவி/doc. Thank you. பொதுஉதவி (talk) 04:29, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- I wonder if you've gone to the wrong place. Do you simply want to create a sandbox for yourself? I'm pretty sure Module:Sandbox/பொதுஉதவி/doc would be a documentation page (something listing technical instructions) for the "பொதுஉதவி" page on a kind of multi-use page called "Module:Sandbox". If you're familiar with all this, and you have good reason for creating a module subpage doc page at this title, please just give confirmation. Nyttend (talk) 18:47, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Nyttend: I think they've gone to the right place – edit requests are the way to ask that the title blacklist be overriden, and in this case Module talk:Sandbox/பொதுஉதவி/doc matches the same blacklist entry, so the edit request must go here. jlwoodwa (talk) 22:23, 5 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: Persistent disruptive editing - this has become something of a political issue and that's bringing a lot of attention to the article. While there is a fair amount of both disruptive edits and good faith disagreement among registered users that is resulting in frequent changes to the article, I'm hoping that semi-protected status will help lower the amount of disruptive edits we need to keep up with. Cheers, Ethmostigmus 🌿 (talk | contribs) 04:21, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. The IPs' edits seem on par with the autoconfirmed editors' (some bits of content are being edit-warred, with some accounts add the same things the IPs add, and as filer notes the autoconfirmed editors are making high levels of disputed changes as well). So SEMI is not going to help substantially or be a fair solution. There are reasonable edit-summaries and general civility, so I'm holding off with FULL for now. Talkpage is active. DMacks (talk) 15:56, 6 November 2024 (UTC)

- There are a lot of drafts created by McSyl that keep being resubmitted by IP socks. I get one every 5 or so random drafts. They're just wasting reviewer time. I could take them to MFD, but I think semi-protection until their timers expire would be easier. C F A 💬 16:12, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Extended confirmed protected for a period of 2 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. @CFA: Given the clear sockpuppetry, I think protecting for several months is reasonable, but the article needs to be deleted via MFD rather trying to delete it through some sort of backdoor method. @Lectonar: Please let me know if you have any concerns. Unprotect: The talk page was recently semi-protected due to unregistered users using the talk page as WP:FORUM on Mohammed Deif's death. At the time, his death was in dispute. Now that his death is no longer in dispute, and the article shows him as dead, I don't think the talk page needs to be semi-protected any more. The Mountain of Eden (talk) 05:23, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case: Any thougths on that request? Lectonar (talk) 12:10, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- Update: the death is still in dispute. Hamas has disputed the report that it has acknowledged the death. For now, it seems that the consensus is to have the article show that he is dead, and note the dispute. Since the WP:FORUM comments were from the side that wanted to have the article show Deif as dead, I don't expect this activity to resume. I also don't expect it to now come from the other side.
- Please note that semi-protecting the talk page means that non-confirmed editors cannot make edit requests. This means that protection on talk pages should be applied only under the most extreme circumstances. The Mountain of Eden (talk) 17:00, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: The protection is no longer necessary because the information contained in the article is not valid and edited for the benefit of Russian propaganda. Of course we were going to see lots of traffic; this is the talk page of the president elect. I'm seeing many IP contributions today which seem to be good faith edits. Semi-protection: Request WP:SILVER due to the repeated addition of unsourced BLP content by IP accounts. This originally was originally created by the subject of the article (Cmanon), and they've continued to add unsupported BLP content to it over the years. They were advised several times not to do this, but continued and were eventually blocked. They've also seem to have been using IP accounts over the years to do the same thing. The IPs have been advised not to do this, but they too have persisted. The article subject is of questionable Wikipedia notability, but attempts are being made at WP:BEFORE. I'm requesting this article be protected to at least stop the IPs from continuing to re-add unsupported content while the attempts made to find better sources continues. PP seems to be more reasonable alternative to blocking the IP. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:49, 8 November 2024 (UTC)

- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. @Irregulargalaxies: The article talk page discussion is good, but I think we need a bit more effort to communicate with the other editor on their user talk page and in edit summaries before resorting to protection. (It might make sense to move the citation and Grammy details into a career section at some point and go with a shorter version without a citation in the lead, but I'll leave that to you.) - Thank you for reviewing this. I agree that the article can be restructured better (still including the citation), but wanted the current addition to be stable before investing any effort into cleaning up the rest of the article. I added requests for explanations to each of the user talk pages, although all of them are non-logged in users and have only this single edit in their histories. If there is no response there and if it occurs more than a few times, I'll likely ask again for page protection. Irregulargalaxies (talk) 17:25, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- Declined Discussion between the warring editors has started on the talk page and they are laying off the article for now, it seems. Like other admins here I am loathe to full-protect any page already under a long-term protection (although I have done it) since MediaWiki currently does not allow us to layer protection levels (other than PC) over different durations, so when a full protection expires this article (which as a CASTE article that has already been under indef ECP following past disruption) would be left unprotected. Yes, I do have W-Ping so I would be reminded, but that depends on me being in a position to get back and reprotect the article promptly. Daniel Case (talk) 19:29, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
Reason: The article has been subject to persistent vandalism and edit wars, disrupting its credibility and integrity. Over the past few weeks, there have been multiple instances of users making inaccurate or biased edits, often with the intent to mislead or promote specific agendas. These edits have included the addition of false information, removal of cited content, and insertion of defamatory or promotional material.
Despite reverting these changes and issuing warnings to the involved editors, the behavior has continued, often from anonymous IP addresses or newly created accounts. This persistent activity negatively impacts the reliability of the article and misleads readers.
Additionally, the topic of the page has garnered significant public attention recently, making it a target for repeated edits driven by media narratives, personal biases, or coordinated efforts to skew public perception. Given the high traffic to this page and the recurring nature of these disruptions, semi-protection or full protection is necessary to ensure only constructive, verified contributions are made.
Protecting this page will:
Prevent further disruption and maintain the accuracy of the content. Allow editors to focus on improving the article rather than reverting repeated vandalism. Uphold Wikipedia’s standards for neutrality and reliability. Given these challenges, I request that the page be protected for a specified period to mitigate ongoing issues and provide a stable version for readers. Sohailnm (talk) 17:16, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Also, I would note that you have very few edits in total for an account created two years before you even began editing, and most of these have been to this article, which is tagged as having UPE issues. AGF notwithstanding, I cannot clear my mind of suspicions that that tag might be prompted by concerns about your editing (I will, however, put a CTOPS notice on the talk page). Stated Israeli tank losses in casualty and losses infobox are incorrect, attributed article from Business Insider states "The IDF again had problems with anti-tank missiles during the 2006 war in Lebanon, when Hezbollah employed Russian-made Kornets. Though about 50 Merkavas were damaged, only five were destroyed, according to the IDF, which also struggled with poorly maintained vehicles and ill-trained crews." Casualties and losses box states this number as if it was from current conflict. Article does, however, state that "Israel has lost nearly two dozen tanks during fighting with Hamas since October 7." I believe losses of tanks in the infobox should be fixed to reflect this. 155.225.2.98 (talk) 14:17, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Not done tank casualties do not appear in the infobox unless I've completely missed something. Dr vulpes (Talk) 01:29, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Seems like the losses were removed entirely from the info box at some point. Unsure when, but it did include stated loss claims when I made this request. Thanks for checking on it though. 155.225.2.98 (talk) 02:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

- Declined "Unsourced changes by newly registered editors" is often what happens with breaking news stories, and we have to assume they mean well even when we revert. As for vandalism, yes, it's happened here, but nowhere near enough to require protection IMO. Daniel Case (talk) 02:51, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Reason: I am requesting semi-protection for Ismail al-Faruqi and a set of pages related to him due to chronic sockpuppetry. These pages are a daily or weekly target of newly created socks of Ibn Juferi, and semi-protection will slow down the sockmaster's ability to change these pages. In addition to Ismail al-Faruqi and for the same reason, I am requesting semi-protection for:
- Lois Lamya al-Faruqi
- Murder of the Faruqis
- Urubah and Religion
- Trialogue of the Abrahamic Faiths
- Meta-religion

- Christian Ethics (book)

Thank you! Dclemens1971 (talk) 14:21, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. I looked at all the articles' histories. Chronic sockpuppetry alone, if it's infrequent and the editors can deal with it, is not enough IMO to justify protection. Daniel Case (talk) 03:00, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Daniel Case To take one example, of the last ~800 edits on Ismail al-Faruqi, going back to June when the socking started on this topic, all but about 20 are sockpuppet/sockmaster/IP LOUTSOCK edits (including Ibn Juferi, DashnorKemalit, Abu Muawiyah, The Muslim Apologist, GoldenRipple, DrunkenJoe, and SmirkTales). That averages out to roughly five sock edits every single day, which seems pretty frequent to me. The request is only for semi-protection. Thanks -- Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:35, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe you'd be better with pending changes then? I am not sure this is enough to justify preventing all non-autoconfirmed editors from editing the articles? Daniel Case (talk) 03:39, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- If you think pending changes is better suited for this situation then I would be ok with that as an alternative. Dclemens1971 (talk) 03:52, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I believe the Ismail al-Faruqi, Murder of the Faruqis, Islam and the Problem of Israel, and Trialogue of the Abrahamic Faiths fall under WP:CT/A-I. Beyond that, I don't think pending changes makes sense because of the high proportion of sockpuppet edits and I'm not sure pending changes reviewers will be able to reliably reject a lot of these edits. I think semi-protection or ECP makes more sense. Daniel Quinlan (talk) 04:22, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback. I agree that semi-protection is best (or ECP if warranted under contentious topics), but pending changes would provide some friction to the sock master. Any kind of protection would be helpful here (a newly created account has just restored the sock contributions to all of the articles under discussion).
