The history of protection of this page warrants one year semi-protection to mitigate some of the issues that have occurred recently and the inability of PC to reasonably deal with the cadence of problematic edits. However, by my review, the edits introduced by autoconfirmed editors -- largely not rising to the level of BLP violations -- are of a different character than those made by the IP editors and the non-autoconfirmed editors and exist on the precipice of what could be characterized as a content dispute. Before EC is applied, there needs to be some evidence of discussion failing. However, there is no discussion on the article's Talk page and, insofar as I can tell, no discussion on the individual Talk pages of the editors in question. As of the timestamp, by my count, there have been seven recent edits to the article, two of which were obvious cases of vandalism by IP editors, two were reverts of said vandalism, one was a zero byte copyedit, and two -- by registered editors -- added content that's probably WP:UNDUE and poorly sourced, but can be addressed through the normal process of discussion (however, the last attempt at discussion on the Talk page occurred two years ago). That said, I have no doubt that, due to recent events, PC protection will not be sufficient and will need to be adjusted to something more substantial. I'll plan to watchlist the article as well.   • The reason you protect a redirect is not the same as the reasons you would protect the target. The target, Template:Hebrew audio, IS protected, btw, just at a lower level (semi). This makes sense as few people watch redirects, so the possibility of undetected vandalism is much higher for that redirect than the template. I'm not inclined to unprotect as I don't see how the protection is actually stopping anyone from making a legitimate edit, but will leave open for another admin to review. No, I have no opinion or objection to either the addition or its removal (I'm not allowed to). But you are allowed to object on various grounds, like WP:DUE, WP:RS, etc., so I'm just wondering if such reasoning exist in this instance. Otherwise, I'd be inclined to decline (inclined to decline?) as WP:PREEMPTIVE. Thank you for the reply. At the start of the month and towards the end autoconfirmed editors (usually with no user page) have been adding unsourced material, changing paragraph subheadings, adding bare references and messing the article up. Today I had to change about a dozen things back to normal. The current protection, in my opinion, doesn't work and isn't sufficient if I have to go ahead and revert everything they do constantly. There are too many accounts making too many changes against Wikipedia's policy and guidelines such as No original research, Fancruft as well as straight up vandalism by editors with no regard or little knowledge of how Wikipedia works and due to the popularity of the article there is simply no way to control it and it is slowly descending into chaos. This is why I request this and I hope this issue can be fixed. Update: the death is still in dispute. Hamas has disputed the report that it has acknowledged the death. For now, it seems that the consensus is to have the article show that he is dead, and note the dispute. @Daniel Case To take one example, of the last ~800 edits on Ismail al-Faruqi, going back to June when the socking started on this topic, all but about 20 are sockpuppet/sockmaster/IP LOUTSOCK edits (including Ibn Juferi, DashnorKemalit, Abu Muawiyah, The Muslim Apologist, GoldenRipple, DrunkenJoe, and SmirkTales). That averages out to roughly five sock edits every single day, which seems pretty frequent to me. The request is only for semi-protection. I believe the Ismail al-Faruqi, Murder of the Faruqis, Islam and the Problem of Israel, and Trialogue of the Abrahamic Faiths fall under WP:CT/A-I. Beyond that, I don't think pending changes makes sense because of the high proportion of sockpuppet edits and I'm not sure pending changes reviewers will be able to reliably reject a lot of these edits.
