Question from George Fidel (06:34, 25 June 2024)
[edit]Hello! I am making a new page and wanted to ask if you could look at it. It is currently in my sandbox. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:George_Fidel/sandbox --George Fidel (talk) 06:35, 25 June 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @George Fidel, sorry for the late reply, I've been a bit busy lately. I've looked through the draft and I don't think it is currently ready. I think some improvements need to be made in regards to tone and referencing. Sources that are published by or related to the subject should not be referenced in the article, and the claims that these sources support should be more adequately referenced or removed. The tone should be neutral, and puffery should be avoided.
- I'll be happy to look over it again, but before you continue working on the draft, could you first make sure that the subject meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. In general, all subjects of an article should have multiple sources providing significant, independent and in depth coverage to them to merit an article, if that does not exist, the draft may not be approved. Justiyaya 20:43, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you @Justiyaya for reviewing the draft. I'll try and get better links for referencing the article and also check on the tone. George Fidel (talk) 08:43, 10 July 2024 (UTC)

Question from Melbydwaekk on NCT (group) (15:50, 10 July 2024)
[edit]Would it be appropriate to change "Spinoffs" to "Subgroups" or "Subunits" under Background Information? This would apply to other K-Pop groups as well. "Spinoff" has a strong connotation related to TV in which some element of the original work is turned into something new and existing on its own while still in the same universe as the original. In K-Pop, a subunit exists under the umbrella of its main group. In Stray Kids, 3RACHA existed prior to the main group, so spinoff does not feel like an appropriate descriptor. I apologize if this was answered somewhere, I am somewhat new to editing. --Melbydwaekk (talk) 15:50, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Melbydwaekk, what you are seeing comes from Template:Infobox musical artist. Generally, for edits on such a widely used template, you should establish consensus first before making or requesting a change on the template's talk page.
- I think this term originated from the 2021 removal of the "Associated acts" field. It has already been discussed by a few editors in 2022 with most agreeing that the term is flawed but nothing (I believe) came out of that.
- If you'd like to propose a change, start a section at Template talk:Infobox musical artist. I think it's an interesting and valid point to raise :D If you'd like me to do it, I'll be happy to but would be a bit busy before the weekend. Happy editing! Justiyaya 19:22, 10 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from Astromoorthy (04:16, 15 July 2024)
[edit]Hello Mentor,
I'm trying to create an wikipage for a person. We have all citations, articles everything. Please let me know how to create a detailed wikipage. Thanks. --Astromoorthy (talk) 04:16, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
Question from Astromoorthy (04:18, 15 July 2024)
[edit]We have added a wikipage earlier but now I couldn't see the page. Please let us know what happen or do we need to create a new one.
Thanks. --Astromoorthy (talk) 04:18, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Astromoorthy, you've used "we" when referring to yourself, note that shared accounts are not allowed on Wikipedia.
- It'd help a lot if you could give the name of the article/page that you've made so I can try to find out why (or if) it was deleted. Nothing on your account seems to indicate that you've created a page. Justiyaya 04:36, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry about that we, . This is Moorthy. It is not shared, this page is my page. I want to create a wikipage, can you let me know how to start about it. Astromoorthy (talk) 14:57, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Astromoorthy, WP:1st would be a good place to go to get some guidance. Do know that writing a new article on Wikipedia is not really encouraged for beginners and could be really discouraging. You should try some tasks in the task center first if you'd like an easier start.
- I'd still encourage you to point me to the name of your last article or provide more context about the one you are trying to make right now. It'd help me give much better advice Justiyaya 18:51, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, THank you so much for the suggestions. I have written my article, added citations, references everything and kept it under sandbox. But I cldnt see the publich button or even to point you. pelase help how to do that. Thanks. Astromoorthy (talk) 05:11, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Astromoorthy if you tell me the name of the page I could move it for you if the article is up to standards. Justiyaya 21:48, 15 August 2024 (UTC)
- Sure. This is the page name - User:Astromoorthy/sandbox : Dr. S. Pothuvudaimoorthy. Can you please check.
- It would be great if you can check. Thanks. Astromoorthy (talk) 10:41, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Astromoorthy, writing a autobiography is not a good idea, we generally strongly discourage it and the subject does not seem notable. In most cases, the article will not be published and it'd be a much better use of your time to do something else instead. I should've noticed the page earlier and told you but I forgot to check for it when I saw your last message. Justiyaya 01:15, 23 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Justiyaya THanks for the feedback. I totally understand. But his is about an astrology and astrologer. When i read few wikipages, there are many pages about a single person. Not some topic, just about a single person especially film directors, singers, sportsperson, businessman, doctors etc et. Then any other issue in this page. Because this page is not for marketing purpose or any promotions.
- Just wanted to understand in detail. Astromoorthy (talk) 15:38, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Astromoorthy, we usually only accept articles with multiple independent secondary sources providing significant coverage to the subject. Which means that the sources must cover the subject beyond brief mentions, be reputable, and not be paid for or connected to the subject. All the links in the article appears to be the same text republished as paid for promotional pages, which is why I do not believe that it could be published. Justiyaya 22:02, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
- Dear @Justiyaya Thank you for your feedback. I would like to clarify that I have not paid for any of the citations. The publications were either reached out to by me or approached me directly due to my work on building a temple, writing a book on astrology, and exploring wedding astrology. If these were paid articles, I would have provided distinct content and images to each. Additionally, there are references from reputable Tamil newspapers, which I’m unable to upload due to the platform's limitations.
- I kindly request to do the needful and I appreciate your understanding and assistance.
- Thanks. Astromoorthy (talk) 11:10, 8 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Astromoorthy I mean... regardless of whether you've paid for it or not, they are clearly promotional in nature. I'm sorry, the draft has a extremely low chance at getting published that I just don't think it's worth your time to continue. Justiyaya 13:21, 8 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Bis-Serjetà? (11:45, 15 July 2024)
[edit]Hey, I have a question about tables.
On the article linked below, the table is wide enough that you need to scroll horizontally if you want to reach its end. I want to shorten it in order to fit it inside the webpage (no horizontal scrolling needed) and also to fit some images on the side for some reference.
Is it possible to shorten the width of a table? If so, how? Thanks in advance.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Eastern_Orthodox_saints --Bis-Serjetà? (talk) 11:45, 15 July 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Bis-Serjetà?, good question! I'm not exactly good with tables (I think I've touched it one or twice in my Wiki editing career)... I've asked for you on the help desk and they'd definitely know the answer. Justiyaya 05:32, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]How can i add my biography on wikipedia ? --WASIMULKARIMNILOY (talk) 04:17, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

This new special page replaces Special:EditGrowthConfig
. For now, all Growth features can be configured using Community Configuration. Configuration for AutoModerator (T365046) and other features will be available in the future.

Current work
[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new Community Configurable module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version available to beta wikis. We will conduct an A/B test at our pilot wikis using the new Metrics Platform. We still welcome community feedback on initial designs and plans, in any language at our project talk page.
Future work
[edit]Increase constructive activation on mobile
As part of the Growth team 2024/2025 Annual Plan, the Growth team will explore various ways to increase the percentage of newcomers who successfully start editing.
Editing a Wikipedia page requires too much context and patience. It means many trial and error for newcomers to contribute, meaning a steeper learning curve and potential discouraging reverts. To support a new generation of volunteers, we will increase the number and availability of smaller, structured, and more task-specific editing workflows (E.g. Edit Check and Structured Tasks). The Growth team will primarily focus on Structured Tasks, while working closely with the Editing team to ensure our work integrates well with Edit Check.
Stay informed
[edit]Growth team weekly updates are available on wiki (in English) if you want to know more about our day-to-day work. If you want to receive more general updates about technical activity happening across the Wikimedia movement (including Growth work), we encourage you to subscribe to Tech News.

Question from Merqalicious (01:25, 13 August 2024)
[edit]Hello,
How can I create a page for my soccer team? --Merqalicious (talk) 01:25, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- @Merqalicious, that's not usually a good idea. In short, if your soccer team should get an article, someone (a wikipedia editor) would likely write an article for it. Writing about an article something you have a conflict of interest with is usually discouraged. For the policies surrounding it, check out WP:N and WP:COI. Justiyaya 07:32, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi there,
I just submitted this Draft page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:DRAFT_-_Climate_Active
I'd like to remove the "DRAFT - " from the name, how can I do this? I can't seem to find the "move" button as the guides suggest.
Thank you --DejaVu809 (talk) 05:11, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @DejaVu809, it appears that someone already moved the page for you, thanks for messaging me. I've also seen that the draft was already declined, and I'll try to provide a bit more insight into why it was. The biggest issue in the article is notability, specifically, an article needs to be based off reliable sources that are secondary and independent to the subject. Adding a few newspapers covering the subject in detail, books, articles, magazines or even TV programs, could prove notability, our inclusion criteria for subjects. If sources like these do not exist but the subject is mentioned in reliable secondary and independent sources, it may be useful to send the content to an existing article, like Climate change in Australia#Policies and legislation. [edit]Greetings mentor,
This may be a rather simple question, but how do I archive a source?
Thanks and God bless. Bis-Serjetà? (talk) 20:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Bis-Serjetà? Great question! Not a simple one as there are plenty of ways to do it. If you'd like to archive one single source, using the Archive URL (linking to something like Internet Archive) alongside the Archive date field after clicking on a citation would get you there. If you want to do all sources on a single page, or just want something automated to do it for you, I found the internet archive bot to be helpful. Justiyaya 01:51, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from WindhorseTrust (14:10, 21 October 2024)
[edit]Hi there I have not edited a Wikipedia page before and would welcome some help so I don't mess anything up.
I work for the Windhorse Trust, we own Abbey House in Cambridge (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Abbey_House,_Cambridge&_welcomesurveytoken=d7gfb2rokrc1m5ij0d0reirjmdra0gpr&source=welcomesurvey-originalcontext). We have a duty of care towards our tenants who live there.
The Abbey House Wikipedia page contains several photos of Abbey House uploaded by an a 3rd party (cmglee) who we have no relationship with.
Some of the tenants are unhappy about some of the photos of the property on the Wikipedia page for safety and security reasons and would like them removed from the page.
How would I go about this?
Thanks John --WindhorseTrust (talk) 14:10, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi WindhorseTrust, this is complicated. The image was uploaded by Cmglee, who took the photos themselves. I don't see a copyright/legal reason why we would be required to remove it and I don't think there is any policy surrounding the requested removal of interior images. I wouldn't count on it being done but you could email info-en-qwikimedia.org, which is from what I've gathered the correct way to go about requesting a change in an article that you are involved with. Do not edit the article yourself as you are related to the subject.
- On another note, if you would like to continue working under the same account, please request a change of username. Wikipedia does not allow accounts that hold the name of a group as each account could only belong to a single person by policy. Additionally, review the paid editing policy if you are going to continue working on subjects where you are professionally related – note that you must disclose a conflict of interest on your user page (something like I am being paid by ___ for my contributions on ___ would suffice). Growth News, October 2024
[edit]Current work
[edit]Newcomer Homepage Community Updates module
We will add a new module to the Newcomer Homepage that will allow communities to highlight specific events, projects, campaigns, and initiatives. We have released a simple version on beta wikis and we will soon start an A/B test on our pilot wikis. This module will only display on the Newcomer Homepage if communities decide to utilize it, so learn how to configure the Community Updates module, or share your thoughts on the project's talk page.
Constructive activation experimentation
After showcasing early design ideas at Wikimania, we conducted user testing of design prototypes. We now aim to engage communities in further discussions and plan to run a targeted experiment, presenting a structured task within the reading view to logged-in new account holders with zero edits.
This Community Configuration extension was developed to help communities customize wiki features to meet their unique needs. The Growth team is now helping other Wikimedia Foundation teams make their products configurable:
- The Moderation Tools team now provides Community Configuration for Automoderator. (T365046)
- Certain Babel extension settings will be configurable soon. (T328171)
Future work
[edit]As part of the Growth team annual plan, we will continue to investigate ways to increase constructive activation on mobile, while also working with Data Products to move forward A/B testing functionality via the Metrics Platform.
Community events
[edit]- Growth team members presented Community Configuration: Shaping On-Wiki Functionality Together at Wikimania (slides). The session recording is available to watch on YouTube. This session provided an update on the Community Configuration project and introduced details about the upcoming features that communities will soon be able to configure. Representatives from the Moderator Tools, Editing, Web, and Campaigns teams shared their plans for utilizing Community Configuration in the future. Following these presentations, the WMF Growth team's Benoît Evellin and Martin Urbanec answered audience questions.
- Habib Mhenni gave a presentation of how mentorship works at WikiIndaba 2024. The recording is available.

Question from HatoriHanzo'sghost (07:44, 23 October 2024)
[edit]Hi, I would like to change name of sandbox (new name: Thomas Rönning), and publish this article on Wikipedia. I find it difficult to understand how to convert my personal sandbox into an article on Wikipedia, and how to rename. --HatoriHanzo'sghost (talk) 07:44, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @HatoriHanzo'sghost, apologies, but we really discourage editors writing autobiographies. I can't think of an instance where anyone has successfully done that. It won't be a good use of your time and I think its best to spend your time doing something else. Justiyaya 10:41, 23 October 2024 (UTC)

Adoption
[edit]Hello! I was wondering if you'd like to adopt me as an editor, so I can learn more about how to contribute. I've already done some edits, mainly minor formatting/capitalization fixes, reverting vandalism, and more recently fixing bare URLs and broken citations. I don't have a Discord account, but you can find me on Libera.Chat. WaterQuark (talk) 16:20, 5 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi WaterQuark, I'll be happy to help you with anything. I don't have IRC but will try setting one up :D (should've done it a while ago probably) Justiyaya 04:55, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- @WaterQuark I've gotten IRC set up with the same username on Libera Chat. I am quite new to this, could you send me a message there so I could message you back? Justiyaya 16:03, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- I sent you a memo, which is a type of message that can be sent to offline users and will be shown the next time they log on. If you want to, you can enable receiving memos as emails with
/msg NickServ set emailmemos on
. - Unrelated question: should I use
|first=John 1, Jane 2 |last=Doe 1, Doe 2
or|first=John |last=Doe |first2=Jane |last2=Doe
in citations with multiple authors? I personally think the latter format looks cleaner. WaterQuark (talk) 21:18, 9 November 2024 (UTC)- Yup you are right that the second is what you should use Justiyaya 02:27, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Bis-Serjetà? (18:40, 16 November 2024)
[edit]Greetings mentor,
I was wondering about creating a disambiguation article titled "2025 census". For your information, it will be the newest disambiguation article in a series of disambiguation articles titled "[YEAR] census", with each containing a list of articles about censuses which occurred in a certain year.
Currently, there is only 1 article about a census which will occur in 2025. Should I create the "2025 census" disambiguation article now or wait until another article about another census in 2025 is created?
Thanks in advance! --𝔅𝔦𝔰-𝔖𝔢𝔯𝔧𝔢𝔱𝔞? 18:40, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Bis-Serjetà? I think it would be a good idea to hold off on creating the disambig until another article is written. Justiyaya 18:49, 16 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Mario22023 on Edward O'Hare (02:26, 19 November 2024)
[edit]How can I make an Edit with a tag?(Redirects --Mario22023 (talk) 02:26, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Mario22023, tags are usually added automatically to edits, there's usually no need to manually add it. Are you asking about redirect categorization and could you tell me the specifics on where you'd like to do it? Justiyaya 03:02, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
