Your GA nomination of On Guard for Peace
[edit]The article On Guard for Peace you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:On Guard for Peace for comments about the article, and Talk:On Guard for Peace/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. - Is there another song of the flea? Can it be renamed to just that without the disambiguation? AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 00:15, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- @AngusWOOF: No, there are at least two other notable settings of that Goethe text by Ludwig van Beethoven and Charles Gounod. All these settings are unrelated to each other, despite using the same text. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:21, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

- @AngusWOOF: The original Russian does not begin with an article. The article "the" is also not included in numerous authoritative sources (e.g. Stephen Walsh's Mussorgsky and His Circle: A Russian Musical Adventure, the Boosey & Hawkes work list[1] for Dmitri Shostakovich (who made an orchestration of the song), etc). —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:19, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- If Shostakovich's is an adaptation, then it can be added as a section as with other song articles. AngusW🐶🐶F (bark • sniff) 00:25, 6 May 2023 (UTC)
- It's not an adaptation, it's an orchestration. Think of it as a colorization of a black-and-white image. It doesn't change anything otherwise; it's still the same song. And I suppose it could be added, but his is one of many orchestrations made of that song (off the top of my head Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov, Alexander Glazunov, Igor Stravinsky, and Maurice Ravel also orchestrated it). If another editor wants to add those with citations, they should. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:30, 6 May 2023 (UTC)

DYK for El Monte Legion Stadium
[edit]On 17 May 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article El Monte Legion Stadium, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that when the dance permit for El Monte Legion Stadium was revoked, Johnny Otis accused the local city council of racism and, with the ACLU and NAACP, successfully reversed their decision? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/El Monte Legion Stadium. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, El Monte Legion Stadium), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Answering the comment you left on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Regional_reactions_to_China%27s_maritime_activities_in_the_South_China_Sea
[edit]Dear CurryTime7-24, I would argue against merging this article with the article concerning Territorial disputes in the South China Sea, as it covers a wide range of other aspects regarding the disputes in the South China Sea, which would make this particular contribution too unsuitable. Thus, it will be difficult to content-wise properly allocate these contributions to fit well with the rest of the content there. Therefore, a new article solely focusing on the regional reactions towards China would therefore be more suitable to create for the sake of coherency. Furthermore even if the complaints, concerns and reactions by the various nation-states mentioned in this article are similar (at least to you), it is relevant to highlight how each of the nation-states chose to react to China's maritime activities in the South China Sea, as all nation-states deserve some kind of agency regarding this matter. All the nation-states mentioned in this article possess various political interests in dealing with China's within the South China Sea and this comes into play regarding how they choose to respond to China's maritime activities there. - (Kiiivoon (talk) 11:06, 23 May 2023 (UTC))
- Understood. It was because of the points that you bring up that my inclination was to accept the draft. However, the possibility of a merge persuaded me to leave a comment instead. An eventual reviewer may disagree with it. If one does not come forward in the next few weeks, please let me know and I will take another look. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 15:38, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for reviewing my draft article.
This is an article about a living academic (me). I am aware that wikipedia discourages autobiographies. However, the main criticism that you have levelled at the draft article this time is a more general one about sources and neutrality. I have followed the form of other pages on wikipedia of people who are arguably of similar notability to me (and in roughly the same field).
For example: Ruth Misener https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruth_Misener
For example: Kaisa Miettinen https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaisa_Miettinen
For example: Roman Slowinski https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_S%C5%82owi%C5%84ski
I believe that my draft article follows a similar pattern to those, has similar referencing to similar sources, and that with an h-index of 64, and several papers with thousands of citations I would gently suggest I am of a similar level concerning "notable" status (albeit I fully expect this to be "Minor" at best) within academic circles.
Having looked at quite a few articles about living computer science academics, I have noticed that David Eppstein is often an editor / advisor. Would you be open to asking him to give an opinion on whether my article can be cleaned up to reach the standard of the three examples I have given above please?
Or perhaps you could suggest some other way forward? For example, if it is just one or two sentences that are "not neutral" or "advertising" then I should be able edit those and resubmit, no?
If not, of course I will wait to receive more prizes and fellowships for my work before trying again.
Thank you very much.

- I get where you're coming from, but please understand that I had no say in how the aforementioned articles made it to mainspace. It is possible that those articles may not have gone through the AfC process. It is also possible that those articles may be seriously deficient and could potentially be deleted in an AfD nomination. I don't know.
- According to my understanding and interpretations of WP:NACADEMIC, the draft subject did not meet the threshold of notability. There were also a number of other problems with the draft. For example, the draft is categorized under "1972 births", but neither a mention of a birth year nor a citation from a reliable source confirming it are found in the body of the draft. Some other biographical details are mentioned in the draft, but cited sources are not presented to confirm them.
- My choice to "decline" isn't final insofar as it terminates the possibility of this draft making it to mainspace. It is possible that the draft can be accepted, whether by me or another reviewer, provided that improvements are made in response to the concerns in the review. I strongly encourage you to seek advice on how to improve your draft at the Teahouse. My availability is sporadic, but if you have any further questions, please do feel free to contact me here. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:26, 23 May 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your response.
- Thanks for the link to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:NACADEMIC
- I think that page makes it clear that the draft subject does meet the criteria for academic notability (and that has been independently verified for me). For example, an h-index of 64 and 26,000 citations (reliably and independently evidenced by google scholar page) easily passes the criterion number 1 for having had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline. Several other pieces of evidence were included, for instance the subject appearing in the top 20,000 of Elsevier's ranking by citations of ALL scientists (all disciplines) worldwide since 1788. There are 8.8 million scientists in the world today, so this would be in the top 0.24%.
- Perhaps, given this, I should just try to make the presentation more neutral and re-submit for comment/re-evaluation. I am quite happy to ask at the tearoom too.
- Best regards

Hello, I dont understand why again my draft was declined.. there are reliable sources and many of them. I will now address some of them since the guidelines require 2-3 in hopes this is will resolve this, here goes:
- ishim is a huge site in Israel that states movies and people in Israel.
- taasiya is a big site as well and deals with people, movies and digital. you cant pay to be in there.
- jer-cin = The Jerusalem Cinematheque was established in 1974. At its heart lies the Israel Film Archive, which works to collect, preserve, and showcase local cinematic creations from the beginning of Israeli cinema till contemporary works. The Cinematheque screens new Israeli films, classics, unknown works, and is a unique stage for these films and filmmakers.
- tlvfest is the biggest in Israel in it's filed.
- haaretz is an independent daily newspaper with a broadly liberal outlook both on domestic issues and on international affairs. It has a journalistic staff of some 330 reporters, writers and editors. The paper is perhaps best known for its Op-ed page, where its senior columnists - among them some of Israel's leading commentators and analysts - reflect on current events. Haaretz plays an important role in the shaping of public opinion and is read with care in government and decision-making circles.
- docaviv is the Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival is the largest film festival in the city of Tel Aviv, and the only festival in Israel dedicated exclusively to documentary films.
- Kan is the Israel Broadcasting Corporation.
All shows and talks about Zvi and his films. Zvi also won a few awards as you can see in the article itself. I do not understand why this director isnt worthy of a wiki page while he has an Hebrew page and he is award winning director, is it because he is Israely and not american? Thank you. - I urge you to please go back and read the reviewer comments again. Nationality of a subject has nothing to do with its eligibility for Wikipedia. What does determine eligibility is significant and sustained coverage, not passing mentions, of the subject from reliable sources. Please read WP:GNG for more details. — CurryTime7-24 (talk) 19:09, 31 May 2023 (UTC)

"Intervision" a major work?
[edit]I don't think that Shostakovich's "Intervision", a work of six bars, performed in less than 25 seconds, qualifies as a major work; Wikipedia should not use italics for its title. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 01:22, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
- You're right. I wasn't totally familiar with the Wikipedia conventions on this. Typically I've used the D. Kern Holoman writing guide, which differs a bit. And I also based the italicization of the title based on the books by Laurel Fay and Sofia Khentova. But please go ahead and revert. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 04:21, 9 June 2023 (UTC)
Draft:Patagon Journal
[edit]Hello, I have included several references from major, independent media outlets providing in-depth coverage, not "passing references" about this magazine. KPFA is the largest public radio station in the San Francisco Bay Area. Monocle magazine is an international magazine based in London, England that is one of the most influential publications worldwide. Their podcast is one of, if not the most important, program about print magazines in the world. Other references refer to important elements related to the magazine, like the founder, or their international photo contest, or notable people they have featured in their publication, that provide relevant, background information about key aspects of the magazine coming from a veteran travel guidebook author for Lonely Planet and Moon, and the largest newspaper in Chile, among others. I'd appreciate your reconsideration of these sources and would very much like to speak with you to explain in more detail the reasons, if necessary. Brianjones46 (talk) 16:14, 11 June 2023 (UTC)
- I'm very familiar with Pacifica Radio and the Monocle. Unfortunately, I'm not a podcast person; never have listened to them, so I have no idea how notable the latter's is. Had you cited other reliable sources, I would've AGF on the podcasts. However, your other citations are no good. One is from a blog, another is a passing mention in El Mercurio (the article is not about Patagonia Journal, but a photography contest it held), and an irrelevant citation to The Guardian.
- Your draft as it currently stands is unacceptable for inclusion in mainspace. I strongly encourage you to seek help on how to improve your draft at The Teahouse. I also urge you to carefully read over the useful advice included in my decline template. If there is significant coverage of the Patagonia Journal from reliable sources in Spanish, say from the likes of La Tercera or Clarín, do include those too. Citations from other languages are more than OK on the English Wikipedia (and, if it helps in this case, Spanish is my native language anyway). You're also more than welcome to resubmit your draft and try another reviewer. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:05, 13 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hello, thanks for your reply. I'm a professional writer, and I studied closely how other such listings have been done in Wikipedia for magazines. Nearly all of them include info about what they do, giving references that provide further background from reliable sources about the things they do or write. In this case, as the photo contest is an important part of Patagon Journal I included a reference about the photo contest in a clearly reliable source (El Mercurio). Again, the photo contest is founded and organized by Patagon Journal so it seems relevant to me that there should be references for that, which, as a project of the magazine, is relevant to the listing...That seems to be what other listings do too when they provide references about aspects of a magazine or other organization's work. So, its not there to be a passing reference, but for their photo contest.
- The Guardian article is also not there to provide a passing reference about Patagon Journal, but the reference is listed after the name "Douglas Tompkins," providing background on that person who has been featured in the magazine.
- In any case, I will look into Teahouse and eventually resubmit. Brianjones46 (talk) 23:35, 14 June 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for this, and encouraging, - and imagining you adding to Stravinsky makes me happy! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:59, 27 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! Again, I think the Stravinsky FAN process could've been handled better; the outcome was unexpected and disappointing.
- I'm currently gathering the needed material in order to give it a go soon. Stravinsky is one of my great loves, particularly his late music, but I tended to shy away from his articles as Jerome Kohl took good care of his articles. Bridget Lancaster
[edit]Thanks for the review of this draft. However, I am a bit confused about your comments of uncited claims & 'PR' or advertorial narrative. I am no stranger to getting pages approved, and using the instructions on writing found on Wiki, as well as using similar approved pages of her colleagues, the narrative's tone seems correct. Everything is cited, and I can not find any promotional or flowery language. Clarification would be appreciated because I am kind of stuck. Geraldine Aino (talk) 11:32, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for contacting me! Some of the uncited claims I spotted were her birthday and where she went to high school. None of these were cited anywhere, including in the only citation in the "Early life and education" section. As for the PR language, I had in mind the passages, "This is bolstered by America's Test Kitchen, a show that is well known for conducting analysis of recipes to determine the best technique to reach the final dish perfectly" and "Her commitment bringing people together and making a positive impact on society has earned her respect within the culinary world". "Well known" isn't explained or cited, "perfectly" is very subjective; the last passage is simply too promotional. The term "underserved" also needs to be changed per MOS:EUPHEMISM.
- Bridget Lancaster is definitely a notable subject, so no issues there. But as WP:BLP the draft needs more and accurate citations, as well as adhere to WP:NPOV. Please don't hesitate to contact me again if you need further clarification and advice. If you haven't yet, do also consider seeking advice from WP:TEAHOUSE. CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:20, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- OK those are fair... To be honest, I've never had to cite a birthday or high school. However, I'm always learning!. Appreciate your help and I will rewrite the sections, so hopefully get this through. Thank you for the help! Geraldine Aino (talk) 12:55, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Question about Magazine Article
[edit]Hi Curry Time7-24! Saw your changes. Had a quick question. Actually, two quick questions. There definitely seems to be some discrepancy between the website and the print versions. The masthead in the print edition says "Portland Magazine, aka Portland Monthly Magazine". The covers also seem to alternate the top logo between Portland Monthly and Portland Magazine. Do you have any recommendations for citations, in this case, given that you're more experienced? Since you said it made sense to disambiguate the Oregon based Portland Monthly and the separate Maine-based Portland Monthly, should the Oregon version also be changed to Portland Monthly (Oregon)? Looking forward to your thoughts.Ravenandlotus (talk) 21:37, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Ah... I see that the website, e-mail domain names, and magazine cover all refer to the "Portland Monthly", but the parent company is called "Portland Magazine". Without being able to see a print version for myself, I can't say how its masthead differs from the online version, but I think it can be cited AGF with a page reference to verify the latter name.
- As for whether the eponymous Oregonian periodical needs a disambiguator, that might be a question better answered by WP:TEAHOUSE. Whether one is more notable than the other might have something to do with it. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:10, 28 June 2023 (UTC)
- Yep, it seems a bit of a mess. It does look like the online copies and the print are consistent, so I suppose that's good. I'll add in that page reference. Thanks for your time! Ravenandlotus (talk) 12:11, 29 June 2023 (UTC)
Hello,
Thank you for offering your help. In reference to your comments (which I appreciate) I do not understand how the citings do not correspond to the lines referenced in the article. All the sources are reputable and do more than casually mention the subject. The citations that do just mention the subject in passing, are not offered as the primary source of reference.
Secondly, I'm not sure how this article reads like a "PR" release. I felt I was quite neutral. Can you please offer some guidance? Again, I sincerely appreciate your help!
Thanks! =)

- Please give me a few hours; I'll reply in detail later tonight (PDT). Busy day! Thank you for being patient. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 01:20, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Ericm24 Thanks again for your patience! The draft has a number of issues that need to be fixed before it can be accepted into mainspace:
- It mostly relies on articles from the Miami New Times, which is unacceptable according to WP:COISOURCE since the subject is employed by the same outlet.
- The draft doesn't make clear whether the subject is a real person or a puppet in the persona of a writer.
- If the former, the biographical details need to be properly sourced and cited. (I could find no mention of his birthplace anywhere.) If the latter, this fictional background needs to be explained and, again, properly sourced and cited.
- The citations to the New York Times and The Guardian would be solid, except that they only mention the subject of the draft in passing. Notability needs to be attested by articles where the draft subject is the main focus.
- The book citations lack page numbers and do not adequately convey the context in which the draft subject is mentioned. Page numbers are crucial for reference.
- A lot of the prose in the draft reads like promotional material. For example: "His wit, clever wordplay, and willingness to engage with controversial topics are notable characteristics of his comedy." This is a very subjective statement. If somebody or some media outlet said such a thing about the subject, that would be acceptable to include in the draft, so long as the statement is properly quoted and attributed (e.g. According to the Pelotillehue Press, "his wit, clever wordplay, and willingness to engage with controversial topics are notable characteristics of his comedy".[1]).
- Some passages appear to be WP:OR or WP:SYNTH (e.g. "suggesting a reach beyond the conventional entertainment industry"—what is the "conventional entertainment industry" and who is suggesting this?).
- Having poked online briefly to see if I could find any useful sources for this draft, my gut feeling is that the subject may be a case of WP:TOOSOON. I would encourage you to contact the other reviewers and see if they'd be willing to offer you more insight into their concerns and, possibly, a solution. — CurryTime7-24 (talk) 06:45, 30 June 2023 (UTC)

Next steps for drafted article
[edit]Hi CurryTime,
Thank you again for reviewing my article a few days ago. I've updated the draft to include more reputable secondary sources and removed the subject's own website based on your feedback.
I'm a little confused about next steps/review process in general. Are you the one who is supposed to review it, given that you conducted the initial review? Or will other reviewers get to reviewing the article? I haven't written/contributed to an article since the early 2010s so I'm not sure how protocols have evolved.
Cheers! Jlee25 (talk) 09:27, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hey there! Once you re-submit, the draft can be reviewed by anybody with permission to do so. Since you mentioned it, let me go take a look! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:34, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Jlee25 Good job on improving the draft! It's on its way, but there are still a few wrinkles that need ironing out. For example, the paragraph that begins "In their formative years..." lacks any citations attesting to the awarding of those prizes. Each one needs to be confirmed by a reputable source. If for whatever reason you can't find sources confirming some of those prizes, just stick to mentioning the ones that do have them. The Boston Globe citation is perfect: it is a reputable secondary source that attests to the intrinsic notability of the draft subject, while also being unconnected to it. Which is why the citations from Philadelphia Chamber Music Society and Opus 3 Artists are a problem, on account of WP:COISOURCE. If you could find one or two more citations of similar quality and reputability as the Boston Globe one, your draft would be ready for approval. Please let me know if you have any further questions! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:52, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for pointing out the COI sources - I have removed them. I've also added additional sources, including references to the Toronto Star and The Strad, and cited the prizes in the "in their formative years..." paragraph. Would you consider these sources to be considered for article creation purposes? Appreciate your help! Jlee25 (talk) 21:28, 1 July 2023 (UTC)
- No problem. Glad to read your good work with the article! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:43, 1 July 2023 (UTC)

The Artifice Girl
[edit]Hi, I’m new. Notability for Artifice Girl is increasing by the day. Let me know how many web sources you need to approve publication. German article already live. -218.148.139.55 (talk) 07:26, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm not concerned with notability; draft subject probably passes on that account. Rather, the main concern of my review was that the draft was written like a press release, which is unacceptable. Again, please see WP:NOTPROMO for more details. The IMDB citation is also unacceptable and needs to be replaced. If you need help on how to rewrite your draft in a neutral and encyclopedic tone, please don't hesitate to seek help at WP:TEAHOUSE. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:24, 3 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not associated with the film at all, not sure which parts sound like promotional materials. I've seen the film twice and tried to write a neutral, just facts article. I will go over it again, thanks. Roddyred505 (talk) 16:06, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich)
[edit]Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. July music
[edit]my story today |
Nice to see you make Stravinsky's music flower! - Great music (in June, I'm behind: three great RMF concerts)! - Last Saturday, a friend played for us at her birthday party, on four instruments including baryton, with family (granddaughters!) and colleagues, from Renaissance to Haydn. - My story today is very personal: the DYK appeared on Wikipedia's 15th birthday, and describes a concert I sang. I was requested to translate the bio into German for a memorial concert ... - see background, and we talked about life and death. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:16, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kindness. It's all preparatory work for the coming new attempt to restore the Stravinsky article to FA status. Will be contacting MyCatIsAChonk in the next week or so in order to coordinate what needs to be tackled and how. Some more Stravinskyana is on the way this month and next.
- What a lovely party! It is heartening to know that such beauty can still thrive in this world. Also, I enjoyed learning about Frank Stähle. :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 18:03, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you! Today, I remember Reger's Requiem, and our choirs' jubilee 2 weeks ago. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:46, 16 July 2023 (UTC)
- On today's Main page, you can find a cantata that Bach first performed 300 years ago, and an iconic saxophonist from East Germany. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:57, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
- While today's DYK highlights Santiago on his day, I did my modest share with my story today, describing what I just experienced, pictured. I began the article of the woman in green. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:25, 25 July 2023 (UTC)
- Today Jahrhundertring, and I'm listening to Götterdämmerung from the Bayreuth Festival, close to the scene pictured, - the image (of a woman who can't believe what she has to see) features also on the article talk. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:11, 31 July 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Two Sketches for a Sonata
[edit]On 17 July 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Two Sketches for a Sonata, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Igor Stravinsky's unfinished Two Sketches for a Sonata has been called a "poignant summing-up of a life's work"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Two Sketches for a Sonata. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Two Sketches for a Sonata), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Thank for creating articles on Stravinsky's smaller works, they're definitely worthy of articles and I'm happy to see them featured on the main page! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 16:15, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you!! I'm using them as preparatory work for our collaborative try at bringing Stravinsky's article to FA. There's one more article, a major one, coming this week, maybe as soon as Tuesday (PDT). After that, we should begin to hash out what we need to tackle for Igor Stravinsky!
- Your work on that article was impressive and very instructive for me; I was hoping to do what you did there for Dmitri Shostakovich. Hopefully, if you like, we can also work on that article together later this year! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:39, 17 July 2023 (UTC)
Your GA nomination of Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich)
[edit]The article Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich) you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . The article is close to meeting the good article criteria, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needing to be addressed. If these are fixed within 7 days, the article will pass; otherwise it may fail. See Talk:Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich) and Talk:Piano Sonata No. 2 (Shostakovich)/GA1 for issues which need to be addressed. Message delivered by ChristieBot, on behalf of Amitchell125 -- Amitchell125 (talk) 17:41, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi there, it looks like the issues raised in my review will not be addressed by the deadline set, and the GAN will be failed. You seem pretty busy out there in the real world—however, if you get time to sort out the article's remaining issues, I would renominate it. There's a backlog drive in August, and I'm your article will be picked up by someone, perhaps myself. Regards, Amitchell125 (talk) 07:45, 29 July 2023 (UTC)
Draft:Madeleva Manifesto
[edit]Thank you for reviewing my draft on June 27. I have made a significant revision and believe that I have addressed the tone issue you tagged. You also added a tag about the reliability of the sources used. I need some specific details about why you find the piece inadequately sourced. The sources include a book, a legal journal, a national newspaper plus two different local newspapers, and two national magazines. Most citations had live links. What are you perceiving as unreliable? Thanks. Engmaj (talk) 18:32, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the revision and getting back to me! Please give me a few hours to reply in full; currently puttering about. :) — CurryTime7-24 (talk) 21:23, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your patience. My concern with tone had to do with the wording and phrasing used in the article, which doesn't read like an objective and encyclopedic description, but is promotional in intent. You might not be aware of that and that's OK. Sometimes it's hard to notice these things up close, so it's good to have an extra pair of eyes to check these things.
- Take the opening sentence: "The Madeleva Manifesto: A Message of Hope and Courage was a call, early in the new millennium, to transform the understanding of women's place in the Catholic Church." "Call" is vague; it confused me because I wasn't sure if the manifesto in question referred to an actual religio-political tract, treatise, pamphlet, etc. or was the name of a symposium or general movement within the Church. Then there's "transform the understanding of women's place in the Catholic Church"—what does that mean exactly? When is "early in the new millennium"? The draft lead needs to concisely explain the subject and summarize the corresponding draft body, such as with the article for Caritas in veritate. The first sentence concisely explains what kind of document it is, what it is about, who wrote it, and when it was published. The lead continues by summarizing the contents of the document dispassionately—just the facts.
- Although your subsequent edits are steps in the right direction, the draft still needs to be rewritten. Submitted as it stands right now, I would decline; very likely other reviewers would do the same.
- Please don't be discouraged. My availability is a bit spotty, but it you have further questions, I will try to reply post-haste. I strongly urge you to seek help at WP:TEAHOUSE and to carefully read over the reviews for your draft. Especially do try and click the links included therein, which contain a lot of helpful information. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 03:59, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the prompt reply. I will consider all that and consult the sources you provide. Meanwhile, aside from the tone issues you addressed, what's your concern about the sources? Much appreciated. Engmaj (talk) 15:59, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- The notability of your draft subject needs to be confirmed by "significant coverage [that] addresses the topic directly and in detail" from reputable secondary sources. Your draft is currently missing these. The citation from the South Bend Tribune, for example, does not specifically refer to your draft subject, but a symposium about it. (Incidentally, it further confused me as to what your draft subject was about as it repeatedly mentioned "lectures" rather than a document.)
- If you need further clarification, please keep in mind that I'll be unable to respond promptly until at least early next week. Again, please do feel free to seek help at WP:TEAHOUSE. I can personally attest to their speed in replying and general helpfulness. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:44, 21 July 2023 (UTC)

- The citations from Plus81 were fine. As I said in my review comment, the subject probably is notable, but the problem is that the draft currently relies on press releases and primary sources. The latter can be used, but selectively; the former need to be discarded in favor of reliable secondary sources. Please read my review comment for more details. If you need help improving your draft, I strongly suggest that you visit WP:TEAHOUSE. I can personally attest to their prompt and reliable aid. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:22, 25 July 2023 (UTC)

Cleaning up sources and citations
[edit]Thanks again for your continued help on the Rachel Cline article. I finally found your user page (none of this is easy for a newcomer!) and am honored to have your attention at all. As for Rachel Cline, the author: I removed the film/TV stuff to avoid the IMDB problem--anyone interested in tracking it down can find it elsewhere. I added links demonstrating sustained interest in the author over time and also sourced the books summaries you mentioned needed more support. Would you consider removing the "not suitable for Wikipedia" box so as not to prejudice future reviewers? It seems you no longer have the concern that the topic is not sufficiently notable.
- Your kind words are appreciated, but "honored" is too big a word; I'm just some dork on the internet. Let me take a look at your draft again some time Friday (tomorrow is a busy day). The review can't be removed; it's supposed to remain there as a record. You've made good progress on improving your draft, which is why I refrained from reviewing your draft a second time yesterday and left a comment indicating what needed to be polished instead. So please don't stress. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 05:57, 27 July 2023 (UTC)
- Not stressing. Still appreciating the help! RachelClineWriter (talk) 02:50, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
CurryTime7-24, at the end of your review on the above page, you said you were failing the nomination. However, you didn't take the final steps to fail it (see WP:GAN/I#FAIL), in particular the {{FailedGA}} template replacing the {{GA nominee}} template. Please complete the process, or if you aren't able to, let me know and I'll do so for you. Thank you very much. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:13, 28 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm sorry. I'm new to the GAN process. Please give me a few hours to fix this. Will be away from my desk most of today. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:24, 28 July 2023 (UTC)

Your long edit summary
[edit]Short answer to your long edit summary (Why has it not been done yet?): That discussion is open on Classical music, - I think you even started it. I asked in 2018 (Sibelius) how many more rounds we'd need, and we just had Mozart and Tchaikovsky. The arguments are the same for all of them. Shostakovitch - unlike Wagner and Mendelssohn - was not written by one of those who find infoboxes horrible, - I looked, Henry Flower for much of the content. I think you know as well as I do that Project Composers' hidden notices are in no way binding. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:43, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- If you want to revert me, go for it; I won't dispute it. But I wish you worded your edit summary in a less adversarial sort of way. It's not like I was trying to bully that new user. I don't care about infoboxes one way or another; partisans of both sides of this issue seem to make good points to me. The only reason I reverted that user's edit was because I was led to believe there was a project-wide consensus against including infoboxes, unless consensus dictated otherwise at individual articles.
- I had no idea that hidden notices are not binding. So why are they there? —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 16:22, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- They are there because in 2010, Project Composers ran an RfC - which I missed, I did my Bach cantatas in my corner, not much connected to any group. Of those who were against infoboxes, some died, some left, some are still there. They are the big names writing featured articles, Debussy, Wagner etc. - I don't want personal collision with them, they are also people. But for other articles, we could just use the common sense that a link to the list of works is more informative than a signature ;) - I grant myself only 1RR, so will not revert, same for Schnittke. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:40, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
- A gem from the long thing: "The question at hand is not whether advice pages are common, but whether a small group of editors can actually require other editors to follow the advice the first group wrote -- not, please note, by explaining why this infobox is inappropriate for this article, but merely by saying "We, the members of this WikiProject, say infoboxes are evil, and we WP:OWN this article, so you have to follow our rules". WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:22, 28 February 2010 (UTC)" But they did it anyway. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:50, 1 August 2023 (UTC)
July songs my story today - Today's music is played by my brother's orchestra, conducted by two very young men on their way up, - the picture was taken shortly after the invasion of Ukraine began, shortly before they played The Firebird Suite, that is, - more detail on my talk. Images reached the day of the Tenebrae concert mentioned in July. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 17:25, 2 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the Tarantella below. How fitting, a dance on my brother's wedding day, the one who played in The Firebird. - Please watch my pages and articles - I'm away today. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:55, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
- Not without amusement I saw - after the weddings - that I told you (everybody, in the Classical music discussion) that the hidden notices are not binding on 9 March. I suggest you - neutral! - now raise the question about the parameters there, not in an rfc for just one composer. I'd go for DOB, POB, DOD, POD as a must, list of works also if there is one, and perhaps establish criteria on what else to use. If you look at Samuel Barber, even the "must" is not without controversy. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 08:10, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- Will do. Thanks for the advice.
- As I mentioned earlier, I get both sides. Thanks to your counseling, however, I include them almost invariably in articles I create (except when they're on the stubby side) because the issue is bound to come up sooner or later, with a landslide consensus in favor of adding one almost certain. So why fight it? :)
- Hope the wedding was fun. It's been hot and humid here in Los Angeles. Like a lizard, I've been trying all week to lay low and find relief under cool, dark places. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:42, 6 August 2023 (UTC)
- The two weddings were great, just - because two on two consecutive days at places with some distance in between - I missed the dances of the couples both times. Pics to come, I promise one cake, the other was too large! Good music, and better even in the concert ending the second day, - Goldberg Variations theme for an encore, after Dohnányi Serenade. - My story today - a first - isn't about an article by me, but by you! For the album: Main page history. I like all: topic (should become GA, no?), "hook", connected article (a GA on its way towards FA), image and the music "in the background". Just returned from a weekend of weddings, I also like the spirit ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:43, 7 August 2023 (UTC)
- I like that she had more clicks than the average TFA! - Again not by me: today's story - with the triumph of music over military - is uplifting! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:51, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. Also, you might want to take a look at Alfred Schnittke... :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:16, 10 August 2023 (UTC)
- done, smiled, smiled less for Cosima W. - One more day uploaded, with a wedding cake - I couldn't resist. Today's story is about the Inkpot Madonna who returned to "her place" 9 years ago, and also has aspects of early learning, see? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:29, 15 August 2023 (UTC)

- Today I heard a delightful concert, "Himmlische Freuden", remembered having heard Vilde Frang (Bruch concerto, in Zürich, with my brother's orchestra) , and succeeded in preparing Renata Scotto's article enough for the Main page (which took two days). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:47, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Curry pans
[edit]Do they come in different flavors of curry? CurryCity (talk) 22:50, 8 August 2023 (UTC)
- There are regional varieties, as well as a style known as keema that is based on Indian curries, rather than traditional Japanese curry, which is a hybrid that somewhat resembles English stew. J-curry and curry pans are kind of an obsession of mine! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:54, 9 August 2023 (UTC)
- Sounds delicious! I'll be sure to try some if I come across them. CurryCity (talk) 21:02, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

- I met Walter Arlen in 2010. We talked about music in Los Angeles during the mid-20th century. Incredible to think that he lived for so long and with his mind vibrant and fresh as ever! Reminds me of a mentor of mine who was still alive back in 2010. In his boyhood, he had met both Artur Rodziński and Otto Klemperer when they were the music directors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic in the 1930s; later on he met and worked with countless others. Remarkable people whose destinies brushed against those of men who, to me at least, were starry names in a glittery distant past by the time I discovered music. Nothing but the memories remain... —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 03:59, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- Those memories of Arlen must be great! I fondly remember - on a smaller scale - Erhard Egidi, who was the first in my life fascinated by Mahler, and who conducted Jesu, meine Freude ("stand and sing ...", I sang tenor at the time) the day before my grandfather was buried - a lasting memory. - One of two where I knew pricately that he died before there was an official notice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:22, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- Today's story is about a great pianist with an unusual career, taking off when he was 50. It's the wedding anniversary of Clara and Robert Schumann, but I was too late with our gift. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:43, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- Today I remember Raymond Arritt, who still helps me, five years after he died, per what he said in my darkest time on Wikipedia (placed in my edit-notice as a reminder), and by teh rulez. - Latest pics from a weekend in Berlin (one more day to come). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:32, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Congratulations to your latest GA! - Did you see who played Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:43, 21 September 2023 (UTC)
- My story today is The Company of Heaven ("company" with a double meaning, but angelic company in the end). - Pictures of the one more day yes, but no others yet, it's a week with concert or opera almost every night! Early Schnittke! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:31, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
- Kremer! Glad he's keeping Schnittke alive. I feel that the international enthusiasm for his music has dimmed since his death. (He is still highly regarded in Russia.) Even Levon Akopyan , in general a Schnittke supporter, says some surprisingly negative things in his overview of Soviet music. (Then again, he also occasionally has some harsh words for Prokofiev and Shostakovich!) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:53, 29 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello!
[edit]Hello, CurryTime! I stumbled today upon your excellent work at List of compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich, and I was curious to know what your plans for the article are. I mainly edit about Nordic composers, especially Jean Sibelius. Over at User:Silence of Järvenpää/Sibelius loc, I am at work on a draft of his list of compositions ... my goal is to eventually achieve Featured List status. I have been trying to design a table style that could, perhaps, serve as a template for future composer lists. Your thoughts, of course, would be welcome ... I like Shostakovich somewhat, but do not know a lot about the ins-and-outs of his catalogue aside from the symphonies and the quartets. Learning the small details of Sibelius's has been quite the task enough! But, perhaps, if you'd ever like to collaborate on Shostakovich's LoC or others, please do feel free to reach out! Warm regards, ~ Silence of Järvenpää 20:56, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your encouraging message! It means a lot. :)
- My ultimate goal with List of compositions by Dmitri Shostakovich is to not only provide a catalog of all his documented creative work, but to also explain when he started personally cataloguing his music, and why his numbering is messed up, for lack of a better term. It would also include information about his creative process: how he tried ideas out first by improvising at the piano, which he notated as rough sketches that he eventually elaborated into final drafts. There would also be information about where surviving manuscripts are known to be stored.
- I'm also contemplating making a related list that would catalog every recording that Shostakovich ever made, including ones documented to have existed at some point, but which are now lost.
- What keeps me from realizing these ideas is free time, or lack thereof, I should say. Even when I have some, there are other new topics which do not exist here that I tend to give priority to before helping to improve existing articles. So believe me, your offer to collaborate is very welcome. Likewise, if you ever need an extra pair of hands, please don't hesitate to ask me.
- Again, thank you very kindly for your message. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:28, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

- I thought of Brian Bouldton today, and his ways to compromise. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:29, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing Brian Boulton's thoughts with me. Although I opened a Wikipedia account in 2012, I used it only very sporadically until 2020. Therefore, I never interacted with Brian, unfortunately, although I see and appreciate his lasting work on the project. He was right about infoboxes and, thanks to you, I've come around to them myself. Partly because there is no use stopping them, but also because they are helpful.
- Awhile ago, a television actress from long ago came up in conversation with a friend and we were debating who one of their spouses were. A few seconds later, we were on Wikipedia and found our answer in her article's infobox. Thank you for reviewing, and a new Shostkovich film score! - My story today is Canticle I: My beloved is mine and I am his, - the composer, born OTD 110 years ago, didn't want it shorter (but the publisher), more here. Its in a series, DYK? A piece a year for Britten's birthday. It made me return to DYK and its talk page, - the topics are more more important in the end than arguing about hooks. This one was interesting in that respect as well. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:52, 22 November 2023 (UTC)

Quick Note on Bortkiewicz
[edit]The article categories included: Ukrainian classical composers, Ukrainian classical pianists, so not sure why you would consider this to be unacceptable? Nationality honestly isn't an issue. The article made it abundantly clear there is debate on whether he should be considered Ukrainian or Russian. You are free to add List of Russian composers if you like. Both lists actually have Bortkiewicz so I think that's the most neutral way to present this. Thank you.Kazuha1029 (talk) 21:33, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Just to be on the safe side, I think it would be best to avoid adding the kind of "See also" you're proposing, whether for one nationality or the other. As you can see on the talk page and article edit history, there is an ongoing and sometimes acrimonious debate about the subject's nationality. At least I would wait out the RfC about this issue before putting it back. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 23:11, 13 December 2023 (UTC)
- Hmm...Wasn't Bortkiewicz Polish? or at least his parents/background was Polish and the spirit of his work seems more Polish to me having looked at most of his piano music over the years. PianoMusicLover (talk) 03:07, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Hello, thank you very much for reviewing the 'Zheng Chongbin' article. I sent the following message back in October as a 'reply' comment under the article, but perhaps it hasn't been delivered, so just resending it here.
I just wanted to ask for a clarification on the comment that the article doesn't have significant coverage of 'published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject'. The article references a number of reliable, indepenent and peer-reviewed academic publications, such as the Yishu journal, Journal of Contemporary Chinese Art, ArtAsiaPacific etc. Moreover, the article has numerous links to independent and non-profit museum websites that have works of the artist in their collection - like The Met in New York or LACMA in LA. Please let me know your thoughts on this, and if the decision could be reconsidered please. Thank you for your time and kind assistance.

Tsvetaeva
[edit]Hi Curry, I note that you have a lot of tags to the Tsvetaeva page. I'm not sure that is very useful. Are you planning an overhaul? I don't think the article does contain much OR, it has just not been properly referenced since its creation. Most of the citations are pretty good. It will be great if you are going to add to the article. It's been stable and unchanged for over 15 years. Best wishes Anna (talk) 19:35, 27 December 2023 (UTC)
- That the article has been mostly stable doesn't mean that it's not sub-standard and in need of work. I'm not a Tsvetayeva expert and only came across her article because of a related article I had created about a late Shostakovich setting of some of her poetry. Upon reading her article, I identified deficiencies, and added templates accordingly. These are useful because they allow other editors to address and rectify any identified problems, such as OR and personal speculation, which this article contains a lot of (e.g. the entire "Satire" and "Translators" sub-sections, which entirely lack references).
- I'm not planning an overhaul as, again, I'm not a Tsvetayeva expert. My hope is that somebody who is will take the initiative. If you dispute the usefulness of the templates, I would be glad to discuss this through arbitration or an RfC. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 20:09, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for reviewing my draft!
It's my first article attempt and I may have bitten off more than I can chew...
I understand that one of your concerns is that the subject is not notable enough due to the lack of independent references with significant coverage. However my understanding of notability based on WP:Notability (Music) is that the subject would meet a few of the other criterion, e.g singles in the national music charts, albums released with a notable record label. Do you think these could be applied here or is better to abandon this draft?
Also, I will remove most of the basic biographical information, and keep just the minimum e.g date of birth. For this, I believe it would be acceptable to reference the subject's own website based on WP:BLPSELFPUB, if I understand it correctly?
Thanks again and happy holidays!

[edit]Happy New Year! | |
From Igor and I, here's to 2024! Thank you so much for the guidance you've given me this year- I've grown as an editor and writer in great ways, and you've helped this happen. Life has gotten in the way of me starting work on Stravinsky's article, and I do apologize for the extreme delay, but I've been impressed with your work elsewhere. Best of luck on Weinberg's article- his trumpet concerto is marvelous! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 00:40, 1 January 2024 (UTC) |
- I'm finally happy to say that work has begun! See my second sandbox, where I've assembled some sources and began work on his early life. I don't expect too much from you right now, since you're working on Weinberg and others, but I'll let you know when I've finished the bits I'm familiar with. Feel free to and anything whenever! Once we're done with the bio and music sections, we can discuss a possible subsection about his personality, like the one that was present in the pre-FAC version. MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 18:14, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- This is great news! Please bear with me for a little bit, because what I had originally intended as some minor clean-up at the Weinberg page has turned into an ongoing massive rewrite. I also had been too optimistic in my estimate for when that would be completed. On December 31, I had thought everything would be done by the end of the first week of January; now, it's more likely that work will continue until the end of the month. When I'm done there, expect me to do my part for Igor. Then after, hopefully, we move on to Dmitri! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:23, 8 January 2024 (UTC)

Stravinsky Revision
[edit]The first bit of the Stravinsky revision is finished on my end! If you're still up for writing the section on his American years, I've finished my bit of the bio. Please do revise and rework how you see fit! I want to ensure there's a common style throughout the article.
The next part for me is to continue writing the missing sections: namely, "Recordings", "Legacy" (which I may copy some of from the former article), and possibly a "Religion" and "Politics" section. I don't know when I'll have these done, as the regular busy routine is picking back up, but I hope to have it done soon
On your end, if you're still up for it, I'd be marvelous if you could write the section on his American years and to add some Russian sources to the first half. My source diversity was... lacking at times (not proud of refs 101-120 essentially being all EW White). But this is a hard one to write! Walsh and White are the main English-writing scholars on this matter that I can find, and a lot of Stravinsky's own accounts were disproved by Walsh. But, I digress... too many sources, so few reliable
Also, see the subsection "Possible sources", where I'm storing some uncited sources in case they're desired later. If you do cite something new (which I expect will happen) put it with the normal references section- I use User:Ucucha/HarvErrors to track citation errors and unused source templates. Thanks so much again for collaborating to bring this article to best it can be- the New Grove Dictionary may be prestigious, but it won't reach nearly as many people as this article will. - Just wanted to let you know that I did see your message and haven't forgotten about our boy! Right now, I'm neck deep in Weinberg. Good progress so far, but I'm still maybe 30% or 40% away from completion, at which point it will be an entirely new article. Kind of waded into that one by accident. It was at the back of my mind to improve that article, but kept putting it off. No more!
- I'm trying to finish Weinberg before travels next week. Once I return in the second week of February, I will begin to help out with Igor. White is solid, although our guy and Bobby seemed to poke fun at him in private. For what it's worth, White's overview was the first book on the composer I ever read, or devoured, I should say. The thing was practically grafted to me in my junior high years!
- Thank you truly for all your hard work and knowledge! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 02:20, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
Weinberg Revisions
[edit]The guidance on the "under revision" template says remove if no changes in several days. Not sure how you define several but it had been almost a week. I noticed your public pronouncement of me as being passive-aggressive in removing it, and was not pleased. Frank Lynch (talk) 16:37, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- No kidding. Now you have an idea of how your continued nipping at my heels about the lead—illustrating your point to me in one condescending, excruciating "dad joke" after another—felt like.
- Any time I've ever expanded and improved articles, the lead is the last thing I work on because per the MOS it is a summation of everything that will succeed it. In order for me to fix the lead, I need to complete the article body. Now I'm not sure what you thought I was up to with Weinberg, but it isn't hard to see my work, whether in creating or improving articles; a handful of these I've managed to get to GA. Hopefully, these are sufficient evidence that I'm not going to be just tooling around.
- When you removed the template, it seemed to me that it was the latest in your pattern of inexplicable hostility to me. If I'm wrong, I apologize sincerely. However, if you have a concern in the future with what I'm doing at the Weinberg article (or anywhere), by all means please let me know, but also please be polite. When you talk to people like they're hanging on hooks here waiting for you, it's not exactly conducive to friendly responses. Criticism is OK, but rudeness does not help. Politeness, please. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 17:25, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Gogoliad
[edit]On 24 January 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Gogoliad, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that with Gogoliad, Dmitri Shostakovich ended his film career with Grigori Kozintsev, the same director with whom he started? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Gogoliad. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Gogoliad), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. - Late congratulations! - Today I am happy about a singer on the Main page (at least for the first hours), after TFA the same day last year. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:23, 7 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks to Seiji Ozawa. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, I only heard Ozawa in concert once, about 20 years ago. At the time, his reception tended to be negative in the US, sometimes very. Hearing him in concert was a personal revelation. I mentioned this a little later to Allan Evans, who sent me a copy of a BSO broadcast of Ozawa conducting the Turangalîla-Symphonie that practically scorched my speakers upon playback!
- I had heard that Ozawa was in declining health for awhile, so it wasn't a surprise when the news broke, although it is very sad nonetheless. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:18, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! - It was a surprise how bad the article was. It's better but still not good. - Strange that I don't remember what else was on the program with the Mozart. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:46, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- I'm not surprised, unfortunately. One of the things that motivated me to reengage with Wikipedia starting in 2020 was the state of a lot of classical music articles. You did a good thing by helping Ozawa-san out! :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:52, 12 February 2024 (UTC)

- Just take your time! - The image, taken on a cemetery last year after the funeral of a distant but dear family member, commemorates today, with thanks for their achievements, four subjects mentioned on the Main page and Vami_IV, a friend here. Listen to music by Tchaikovsky (an article where one of the four is pictured), sung by today's subject (whose performance on stage I enjoyed two days ago). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:52, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Listen to music from Ukraine if you like, - I heard it in 2022, and the November concert (at a different church) raised a truckload of winter clothes. My story today is also from my life: I heard the singer in 3 of the 4 mentioned musical items. I sang in yesterday's. - Rinaldo (opera) premiered OTD, DYK? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:01, 24 February 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story celebrates a woman's birthday. She sat right in front of me when I took the picture at a lovely concert, celebrating her son's 60th. I thought she was 90 today, - no, 91 already. You can listen, starting at the piece he dedicated to her, Op. 1. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:37, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to join New pages patrol
[edit]Hello CurryTime7-24!
- The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
- We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
- Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
- Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
- If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.
Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

New page reviewer granted
[edit]Hi CurryTime7-24. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers
" user group. Please check back at the permissions page in case your user right is time-limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page or ask via the NPP Discord. In addition, please remember:
- Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
- You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
- If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
- Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page, including checking for copyright violations using Earwig's copyright violation detector, checking for duplicate articles, and evaluating sources (both in the article, and if needed, via a Google search) for compliance with the general notability guideline.
- Please review some of our flowcharts (1, 2) to help ensure you don't forget any steps.
- Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.
The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. If you can read any languages other than English, please add yourself to the list of new page reviewers with language proficiencies. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:29, 28 February 2024 (UTC)

I listen to Bach's St John Passion today, - 300 years after it was first performed. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:45, 29 March 2024 (UTC)
- Dear Gerda, thank you kindly for your messages. They were very cheering to find on my return. Yesterday, I listened to the St. Matthew Passion, as I do every Easter. After mass, we went to go see a screening of The Flowers of St. Francis.
- It's been a difficult few weeks. I may have mentioned this to you, but a family member had a severe medical emergency earlier this year, which resulted in drastic changes to their life. We've been trying to help out here and the situation was such that I did not have as much time as I'd like to edit here. The last couple weeks I haven't been on at all. Things stabilized with that situation, at least, but I learned today that one of my most cherished musical friends died over the weekend. Losing somebody like that with such a sincere devotion to music, wide erudition, and kind heart really took a lot out of me today. I pray that my friend is now sharing eternity with those great composers and musicians she loved so dearly in life. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 02:03, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for sharing personal grief and joy, and it matches the music around death and life that Bach perhaps captured deaper than any other. These days, I had the sad record of three articles among those who recently died on the Main page at the same time, including giants as Pollini and Eötvös which took a lot of my energy, but at least to a good cause. Today we remember the forth, created by Yoninah - missed much. The RIAS St John Passion is worth listening. - It was moving to hear the tenor-only version again that I followed when it happened in 2020, and such an honour that he will sing with us, Bach, in May. The most touching thoughts about music-making together in eternity came from Jerome Kohl. I may have told you but good to remember again and again. (follow link In Freundschaft - in friendship). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:28, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024
[edit]Hello CurryTime7-24,
Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.
Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.
Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.
It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!
2023 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.
Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.
Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Pages Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

DYK for Don Tait
[edit]On 6 April 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Don Tait, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that WFMT classical music radio host Don Tait owned such a large collection of recordings that he had to buy a house and have its floor reinforced to accommodate the weight? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Don Tait. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Don Tait), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. On the bicentenary of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, I remember our recent uplifting choral concert in pictures, on my user page and in my concerts (leading to the two at the church's article). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
Today is the Feast of the Ascension for which Bach composed his oratorio, - perhaps watch a bit how the closing movement was performed in Bach's church. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:40, 9 May 2024 (UTC)
Magdalena Hinterdobler is on the Main page today, together with a Zemlinsky opera that reviewers deemed not interesting and too obscure for our general readers. The soprano thought differently, - listen and see. - Also on the Main page: a TFA by sadly missed Vami_IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:13, 10 May 2024 (UTC)
Today's story mentions a concert I loved to hear and a piece I loved to sing in choir, 150 years old OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:20, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about Samuel Kummer, one of five items on the Main page - more musing on my talk --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:48, 30 May 2024 (UTC)

More Stravinsky?
[edit]Hello! Been a while since we've talked- I've finished the draft of the Stravinsky rewrite (see it in my sandbox) and wanted to know if you were still interested in adding some Russian sources. It could use some diversification- right now it relies heavily on various texts by Walsh and White, but I've tried adding some other things in to widen the sourcing scope. If you are, I'll likely transfer the rewrite to the actual article soon, and you can add sources there. Thanks! MyCatIsAChonk (talk) (not me) (also not me) (still no) 15:09, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- My friend, thanks for letting me know! It's been a rough year here. Not in the right head space to make any major edits for awhile, but please know that I'll be cheering you on as you take Stravinsky to FA. Proud of all the good work you do here! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 21:33, 30 May 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Tachikawa Sumito
[edit]On 1 June 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tachikawa Sumito, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Tachikawa Sumito made a hit cover in 1976 of a song that he first discovered when a housewife called into his radio show requesting to hear a version of it? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tachikawa Sumito. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Tachikawa Sumito), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. June music
[edit]story · music · places |

Enjoy today's story, related to my topic of the year: 300 years Bach's chorale cantatas, and the first was written for today. The music opens with a French overture for a chorale fantasy. -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:55, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
Franz Kafka died 100 years ago OTD, hence the story. I uploaded a few pics from the visit of Graham87. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:27, 3 June 2024 (UTC)
Today is "the day" for James Joyce, also for Bach's fourth chorale cantata (and why does it come before the third?) - the new pics have a mammal I had to look up --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:09, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
New pics of food and flowers come with the story of Noye's Fludde (premiered on 18 June), written by Brian Boulton. I nominated Éric Tappy because he died, and it needs support today! I nominated another women for GA in the Women in Green June run, - review welcome, and more noms planned. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:17, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
July music
[edit]story · music · places |

The story is today about the first published composition by Arnold Schönberg which I was blessed to hear. Listen, and perhaps read what Alma Mahler (to-be-Mahler at the time, to be precise, who was present at the first performance) said, and yes that was too much for the Main page ;) -- Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:39, 1 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about a Bach cantata premiered 300 years ago OTD. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:23, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
3 July is the birthday of Leoš Janáček, and I'm happy I had a meaningful DYK in 2021. It's also the birthday of Franz Kafka, and I uploaded pics from his family's album seen in Berlin. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:17, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
Pictured on the Main page: Brian's Mozart family grand tour, my story today, and Mozart related to all three items of music on my talk: our 2023 concert, an opera in a theatre where a Mozart premiere took place, and those remembered, Martti Wallén, a bass, and Liana Isakadze, a violinist from Georgia, (whose article would be better with more details about her music-making). - I thought of you when I listened to Yulianna Avdeeva last week. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 09:58, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
Today's story is about an outstanding violinist from Georgia, which is a sad story in the end. We should have articles about the three red-link composers. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:44, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
My story today is - because of the anniversary of the premiere OTD in 1782 - about Die Entführung aus dem Serail, opera by Mozart, while yesterday's was - because of the TFA - about Les contes d'Hoffmann, opera by Offenbach, - so 3 times Mozart again if you click on "music" ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 11:45, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the expansion of Wilhelm Schüchter. I should look into Dortmund sources ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:26, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome. Sorry for not replying to you sooner. Been busy here. :/ I've always loved Schüchter's recording of Lohengrin and of various opera excerpts, but was not too familiar with his work otherwise. The liner notes from the cited Japanese SACD was the first reissue of those NHK recordings since the LP era. Had to buy it since I enjoy collecting all kinds of odds and ends by musicians who've flown under fame's radar, so to speak. Great sound and really fine playing. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any usable material to further expand the section about his Japanese career. Lot of blog posts in Japanese about him, though, including some from people who heard him conduct in person. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:33, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- I heard him conduct in person but I'm not a reliable source ;) - First symphony concert ever for me, he conducted from memory, a Wieniawski Violin Concerto (Wanda Wiłkomirska) and Tchaikovsky IV. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:54, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
- Today's story is about a photographer who took iconic pictures, especially View from Williamsburg, Brooklyn, on Manhattan, 9/11, yesterday's was a great mezzo, and on Thursday we watched a sublime ballerina. If that's not enough my talk offers the chamber music from two amazing concerts. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 10:43, 20 July 2024 (UTC)
- Just a look at music (on my talk) shows remembrance of three people who died, and creating an article or improving one is all I can do. Three are on the Main page today, and three others planned ... --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:12, 23 July 2024 (UTC)

- Wikipedia:Main Page history/2024 July 30b will have a baritone, a violinist, a composer and a Bach cantata, - almost too much, and the composer's article, Wolfgang Rihm, should be better, help wanted. - Plenty of music on my parents anniversary day ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:41, 30 July 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for help with the cellist. Do you happen to know what he played for his debut in the US? - Today I have two "musicians" on the Main page, one is also the topic of my story, watch and listen, - I like today's especially because you see him at work, hear him talk about his work and the result of his work - rare! - Meneses will come in two days, tomorrow is Gibson's day at The Proms. - Which youtube would you suggest for him? So far Beethoven sonata #3 for me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:01, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
... and a third as promised, like 22 July but with interview and the music to be played today --Gerda Arendt (talk) 14:18, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for Shostakovich's Piano Quintet which looks like a FA in the making. The cellist will be today's story. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 05:14, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
... and perfect timing with anniversary of the 7th Symphony! - Could we add to the cello concerto mentioned in the story? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 06:49, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Gerda, thank you kindly for mentioning me among the contributors that got Meneses into ITN. I didn't do very much; just minor touch-ups to the heavy lifting done by other editors. Glad to be thought of in good company, nonetheless! Sorry for not replying to you sooner. Work (writing and conducting interviews) has been busy lately. Surprised I was able to time to do some improvements here... and catch up on my reading and listening for my own pleasure! Which cello concerto are we talking about? Warmest from all-too warm Los Angeles! —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 18:40, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you! The Meneses story, today's story, just click on story (below the flowers). Tomorrow: in the archive. The concerto: the first. It was solid, - Jerome Kohl did a lot of groundwork for his compositions, but I could add a bit already. How about doing the same for the second? Or the Fantasia ... - I found a ref for my FAC which will turn it upside down, - don't tell the reviewers ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:37, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- I would absolutely add to the Villa-Lobos concerto for sure. He was a frequent guest here in Southern California and, as a result, was often programmed here in the immediate postwar decades. It's possible that it may have been among the works played here and, consequently, written about in the local press. In addition, I have a couple of books on him. The problem is that one of the newspaper archives I utilize for research is down at the moment; no word on when service will be restored. Still, I will try to do what I can. Although I don't speak Portuguese, I can understand it well when written/spoken. I'll see if anything good turns up in that language. Is there a timetable for this? —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 19:49, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Great to hear, and you are free. I knew nothing about the three works, so in the morning just linked No. 1, and from there, there's a link to the other also. Meneses is still on the Main page as I write this, so chances that a few readers see an expansion is higher than without that. If you could add a little bit more, I suggest you link to both from Meneses, or only to No. 2 as the more mature work. After that, all is free ;) - I'll go to bed now, and tomorrow focus on the update of the FAC - note to self. I made progress since my last comment here. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:05, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- On 13 August, Bach's cantata was 300 years old, and the image one. The cantata is an extraordinary piece, using the chorale's text and famous melody more than others in the cycle. It's nice to have not only a recent death, but also this "birthday" on the Main page. And a rainbow in my places. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:02, 13 August 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for expanding Weinberg! - Sunday story about another of Bach's chorale cantatas, listen, as I listened to two impressive very different choral concerts, - music by 16 composers. In the latest cloudy pictures: a hidden deer, a cat and a blaze of a sunset. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:57, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- You're welcome re. Weinberg. Not done with him yet. Significant work remains to be done. I'm going to try starting on that tomorrow. Once it's finally done, I'll be nominating it first for GA, then FA.
- Where's the kitty and the deer? —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 18:12, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- click on places (below the pic), - the deer is very hidden, and the cat is grown-up ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:47, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- Today is the birthday of Alma Mahler. I believe that Siegfried Lorenz should be mentioned on the Main page among the Recent deaths. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 31 August 2024 (UTC)
- ... and he appeared! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 22:19, 31 August 2024 (UTC)

DYK nomination of String Quartet No. 16 (Shostakovich)
[edit]Hello! Your submission of String Quartet No. 16 (Shostakovich) at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) at your nomination's entry and respond there at your earliest convenience. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! - I'm not sure what you might do to address the issues, but I thought you should know that the nomination has been marked for closure, and could be closed at any time. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:19, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @BlueMoonset Thanks for letting me know. I'm disappointed by the outcome, don't agree with it, and feel like the nomination was derailed by semantic nit-picking. Whatever possibility to reach a different outcome utilizing alternative ALTs seem seems have been dismissed or ignored. Having done my utmost in the face of this, I'm not sure what more I can do. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 19:59, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
Two queries
[edit]Are you sure about this? I feel like the title ought to redirect to List of symphonies in C-sharp minor; Mahler 5 and Prok 7 aren't exactly minor works. Also see Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2024 September 2#Template:Shostakovich string quartets – Aza24 (talk) 22:58, 2 September 2024 (UTC)
- Please feel free to revert me if needed. My logic was that this seems to be the only work typically referred to as the "Symphony in C-sharp minor". Compare with Franck's Symphony in D minor, which is commonly referred to in a similar fashion to Sohy's, despite other famous symphonies in the same key by Beethoven, Bruckner, and Shostakovich. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 23:39, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

... for adding to Berezovsky! Today's story has 3 composers, I couldn't decide for the one on the Main page or the one who didn't make it on his bicentenary, so took both, and the pic has a third. Listen if you have a bit of time. The music, played by the Kyiv Symphony Orchestra in Germany in April 2022, impressed me. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:17, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for going to ERRORS. (I don't feel welcome there.) We have a pioneering composer, and all DYK says about him is that he died. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:37, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Recommended reading today: Frye Fire, by sadly missed Vami_IV. - BWV 87: I guess I better give up trying to get a DYK on the 300th anniversary, so no problem not to mention it in a hook. But do we really have to leave it as harmless as only smile-inducing, when the greatness lies in the contrast of the duet to the opening which has been compared to the opening chhoruses of the St John and St Matthew Passions, and the chromatic motif which comes 13 times in the B minor Mass appears 27 times in bass, instruments and voices? I wasn't able to word that, but perhaps you can. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 20:58, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- I will try, but it is difficult to convey so much within the limited parameters of DYK. My own pending DYK nom, for example, utilizes ALTs that barely scrape the surface of its subject (admittedly, a marginal and chimerical work). Readers will learn more if they're enticed by the hook, which function like carnival barkers that draw the passers-by to the main attraction.
- Please forgive the delayed reply. It's been over 100°F all week hereabouts (115°F yesterday). I can barely think, much less work... -_____- —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 18:55, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- Nothing to forgive, just take your time. - Today, as you will know, is Schoenberg's 150th birthday! On display, portrayed by Egon Schiele, with music from Moses und Aron, and with two DYK hooks, one from 2010 and another from 2014; the latter, about his 40th birthday, appeared on his 140th birthday, which made me happy then and now again. (I didn't even try this year, - I just brought him to OTD instead.) - See places for a stunning sunrise, on the day Bruckner's 200th birthday was celebrated (just a few days late). --Gerda Arendt (talk) 12:32, 13 September 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps it will help you to know that all it takes for the violinist nom is saying if ALT3a works or not. It is the only possibility that works for me. The one who stuck it pinged Launchballer to perform that tasks, but I see no reason why not anybody could do it. Something cute and tangential works for me in some cases, but for someone who recently died I prefer something substantial about their life (and better no DYK than saying that some competition is prestigous), and for Tilman Michael I also didn't want to mention that he sang in an ecumenical youth choir ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:07, 14 September 2024 (UTC)
- My story today is about a man who played jazz when it was banned by the Nazis, with a hook to my liking but that was 2017 - you can listen to how they played it later. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:25, 17 September 2024 (UTC)

Tom Hull reviews
[edit]Hi, CurryTime - Thanks for the excerpt regarding whether self-published reviews may be included under critical reception. My issue with these particular ratings is that they're taken from "grade lists" without any supporting discussion. Do they still pass what you would believe are Wikipedia standards? They strike me more as personal inventories than criticism. (I'll freely admit, too, that anyone who rates Birth of the Cool a 'B+' or Giant Steps an 'A-' strikes me as a lacking in professional judgment, but I understand that taste can't be the sole criterion.) Discipline27-II (talk) 22:00, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- I understand! Also, I just read your discussion about Tom Hull's reviews at WikiProject Jazz and agree with your views on them. So please feel free to revert me on all the articles! :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 01:01, 12 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks very much for your thoughtful reply, and please excuse my late response. I'll go back and revert those changes. Would you suggest some boilerplate language in support? I must admit, referring to guidelines and threads on Wikipedia makes my head spin. Discipline27-II (talk) 16:45, 13 November 2024 (UTC)

Modernism (music) - Spain
[edit]Hess endorses Falla's modernism w/ref to Geertz's "all culture is local"; also Grove: "Spanish composer. The central figure of 20th-century Spanish music, he addressed over the course of his career many of the salient concerns of modernist aesthetics (nationalism, neo-classicism, the role of tonality, parody and allusion) from a unique perspective."
R. Halffter is more minor but definitely modernist; Albéniz is more debatable, sure. (It depends on how expansive your definition of modernism is, mostly.) MONTENSEM (talk) 01:16, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Probably Gerhard would be better, also Montsalvatge strictly. Let me know what you think. (Albéniz is more like a Fauré, to be sure.) MONTENSEM (talk) 01:45, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- If you want to revert me, please feel free; I won't contest it. That template, however, could be helped by parameters that strictly define who gets to go in it. Hope there are no hard feelings over my revert. :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 04:23, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- Absolutely no hard feelings! I appreciate it. I'll probably just leave it as-is for now. You are definitely right about Albéniz, and I probably would've gone back and removed him myself in short order. I feel much more comfortable about Falla; there is some much older work that lends support to this view of Falla in particular as grasping the modern via France and Stravinsky (e.g., William Austin Mus in the 20th C 1966, Gilbert Chase Mus of Spain 1941).
- Overall, I honestly kind of think that the modernism and contemporary music articles are a bit dated, maybe vaguely pre-1980s/1990s (about when Schoenberg dips and Stravinsky rises) in their musicology (especially the Dahlhaus), and need some work first. There's been some great work on modernism, broadening it substantially in various ways, e.g., more recently Julian Johnson and Björn Heile, more nascently J. Peter Burkholder and Arnold Whittall, more unfortunately polemically Richard Taruskin. I guess I tend to favor the more recent view, if only because it has the virtue of better connecting things across times, places, camps, and disciplines, and gets beyond structure. Robert P. Morgan considers expression and intention but spends most of his time on the firm ground of structure (understandably so, especially given his context). Anyway, I didn't mean to write this much, and I'm sure you know much of this or more. (And it's always easier to write about it than it is to do it. It would be a huge task. Probably the later one would have to be folded into the prior one somewhat in order for the later one to be updated.)
- Maybe the template could be sort of more precisely defined, but that can be where things get difficult (in ways that aren't always as productive as they are needlessly constraining). Maybe the template could be more chronological somehow. Maybe it could qualify composers (e.g., late Falla), but maybe that's precious and unnecessary. shrugs
- Happy editing! and have a good weekend MONTENSEM (talk) 07:41, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
- By the way, your articles are great! I really enjoyed reading Begleitungsmusik zu einer Lichtspielscene. MONTENSEM (talk) 07:43, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

- I'm not sure what exactly is the problem. Again, per Stravinsky's most important English-language biographer, the premiere was raucous enough to be considered a near-riot. It passed FA, yes. Château de Langeais
[edit]Hello Curry, I was not making a test with the addition of a photo of the château. I just added the image of the eastern entrance facade of the castle (see as well the "Drawbridge" image on the page) which is very different from the western garden facade whose image was showed unecessarily... TWICE. Other images of this eastern facade here : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Fa%C3%A7ade_est_du_Ch%C3%A2teau_Renaissance_de_Langeais SO, can I add it again ? Is there a problem of grammar (English is not my first language) ? Must I write instead : "Eastern facade of the château" ? The Million Ryo Pot
[edit]Hello, thank you for your review of my expansion of the Tange Sazen article.
I don’t understand the basis for changing the article from the correct name (Tange Sazen OR Sazen Tange and the Pot Worth a Million Ryo) to the less common title of (The Million Ryo Pot). Google Ngrams you wrote, but what if most of the major sources use another title? Also most of the English language references on the article use the correct name.
Consider that Tange Sazen and the Pot Worth a Million Ryo is used by: MUBI; Internet Archive; Letterboxd; TMDB
Sazen Tange and the Pot Worth a Million Ryo is used by: IMDB; Japanonfilm; Mydramalist; Yale University
Furthermore, it sometimes appears as “Tange Sazen: The Million Ryo Pot,” but your title leaves out the name “Tange Sazen” which is not common. It can also appear as “The Pot Worth a Million Ryo,” (Alexander Jacoby) which is not so common either. No doubt the correct title is clunky and hence some authors will abbreviate it. Also on that note, when I created the article “A Treatise on Japanese Bawdy Songs,” a month ago, they changed it to the lame “Sing a Song of Sex,” which is basically a problem because the correct translation is what I had used, and furthermore the “Sing a Song of Sex” is just an English language marketing ploy to sell the movie on DVD – Harvard and others use the correct title. You also changed my use of the word “archery parlor” to “archery booth,” however an archery booth is a travelling outdoor structure, not a part of a building. It could be changed to “archery range entertainment center” or something better like that and then abbreviate it to “entertainment center” in later uses of the term, I’m assuming you watched the movie. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Japanophile0544 (talk • contribs) 19:09, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Re: Burrito Express image
[edit]Apologies for not raising the issue with the image. I thought it best to let others weigh in. I think the best way to deal with it is to replace it with a wider shot, showing the restaurant with the sign in the background. That's how it's usually done. Viriditas (talk) 23:41, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Also, I forgot to ask, why is your user name "CurryTime7-24" instead of "CurryTime24-7", which is the way it is usually expressed in the states? Viriditas (talk) 23:45, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Please do feel free to use the wider shot! Glad for the input as it was instructive for the future. Ah, the reversal in number resulted from an in-joke between me and my wife. As for "CurryTime", it's because I love Japanese curry and any time is a good time to have some. :) —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 00:16, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Japanese curry is wonderful! I would eat more of it, but it tends to be very high in sodium for me. Viriditas (talk) 00:20, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- I added the image and struck ALT4. Consider adding ALT6 with a variation on the ALT4/ALT5 formulation I suggested, or at the very least, with the "successful" bit removed. Viriditas (talk) 01:08, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

Reminder to participate in Wikipedia research
[edit]Hello,
I recently invited you to take a survey about administration on Wikipedia. If you haven’t yet had a chance, there is still time to participate– we’d truly appreciate your feedback. The survey is anonymous and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement.
Take the survey here.
Kind Regards,

Andrea Casarrubios?
[edit]With all due respect, I have to completely disagree with your analysis of this draft. Every single citation is an independent source, and there is no passing mentions in 90% of the article. And I disagree with your characterization that she does not meet WP:MUSICBIO, when she meets every single one of them except for two. This is much more than most musicians on Wikipedia. Did you actually read the citations? Furthermore, are you familiar with classical music and can you read Spanish? I feel that your review was fleeting. Please read the article with the citations, and read the notes on the talk page to get a better understanding of what you're declining. There are 100 articles about musicians on this site who don't even come close to her achievements in her field, and furthermore, most are not academic lecturing at prestigious institutions like the Juilliard school & Harvard. If you're not familiar with classical music, then maybe you should abstain from reviewing the article again. Geraldine Aino (talk) 13:08, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Geraldine Aino With all due respect, I will simply say that my knowledge of classical music and especially the Spanish language may possibly exceed yours. :) You are welcome to dispute my review based on your own interpretations of Wikipedia policy, but personal attacks are not helpful in the mutual goal towards building a better encyclopedia. Whether other articles have similar shortcomings to your draft is not my concern. My review was specifically for the draft submitted. I urge you to please accept the review in the constructive spirit it was intended and apply its suggestions accordingly. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 22:34, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
DYK for Rincón Chileno
[edit]On 16 November 2024, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Rincón Chileno, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Rincón Chileno (pictured) was nicknamed the "second Chilean consulate" by the Chilean immigrant community in Los Angeles? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Rincón Chileno. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Rincón Chileno), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Adressing the issues of my draft after review.
[edit]Dear CurryTime7-24
Thank you for taking the time to review my draft on the portraits of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. I attempted to send you a private mail, but since it seems you have disabled it, I have the need to contact you through your talk page. I mostly agree with the corrections and comments you provided, but I see two concrete points that I have to discuss with you. The first is "the gallery at the end of the article needs to be trimmed. Remaining images may be spread out where relevant in the draft", and my question is by how much and under what criteria. I conceived the draft to include authentic, dubious and inauthentic portraits to showcase the full range of type of Mozart portraits that exist. I think the draft will suffer if one of these categories is removed, or the number of paintings is substantially reduced. The second point you bring is "Much of the draft is currently written in a persuasive and subjective manner that needs to be rewritten". I think I have fixed this issue, but I am still unsure of what parts fit under that description. If you would point me which parts of the draft can be considered subjective I would greatly appreciate your help.
Best regards and thank you in advance. NeoGaze (talk) 15:02, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message and for your work on that draft. Let me take a look at your draft later today; I'll go over it with you in more detail then. —CurryTime7-24 (talk) 15:23, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you, it is greatly appreciated. NeoGaze (talk) 20:47, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
