Question from Aviator Jr (11:16, 23 September 2024)
[edit]Hello. I created an article on Project 18-class destroyer of the Indian Navy. Can you suggest if there are any problems (like reference/citation) with the article? --Aviator Jr (talk) 11:16, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Aviator Jr: Hi, please note that discussion forums, like Defence.in, are not considered reliable sources, and should be removed or replaced. Same applies to blogs like militaryleak.com. I'm also bit dubious of ssbcrackexams.com, and brahmand.com, but feel free to ask for another opinion at WP:RSN. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 15:51, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- I understand about the defence.in source, but brahmand.com is an official derivative website of the BrahMos Aerospace official website. Is it not alright? Also I have another doubt that ssbcrackexams reference has been supported by a reference of Naval News website. Is that a reliable source? And if these modifications are done is there any chance that the page may be deleted or something? Aviator Jr (talk) 16:14, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Aviator Jr: In that case, I guess it could be fine, though please note that sourcing directly to the company is discouraged. If the ssbcrackexams reference is supported by the Naval News source, then it would be better to just use the Naval News source instead.
- A page can be nominated for deletion at any time, by any editor. Whether it will be deleted or not is determined by the amount of coverage the subject receives and (usually) not by the quality of the article. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:34, 23 September 2024 (UTC)
- Alright, thanks for helping! Aviator Jr (talk) 17:00, 23 September 2024 (UTC)

Question from Aviator Jr (15:07, 29 September 2024)
[edit]Hello. How to create an archive of a citation or reference? --Aviator Jr (talk) 15:07, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Aviator Jr: Hi, you can use https://web.archive.org/ to archive your web-based citations. Once the site is archived, you can add it and the archive date to the original citation through the |archive-url and |archive-date parameters. Please see Help:Using the Wayback Machine for more detailed instructions. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:42, 29 September 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks.Aviator Jr (talk) 08:29, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
- web.archive.org is not working for new pages now. Is there any alternative? Aviator Jr (talk) 08:12, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
- Archive.today should be fine ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:46, 21 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from Fellow partner 07 (07:53, 16 October 2024)
[edit]hello! can you tell me how possible it is to create a new article on Wikipedia? About a brand that I know. --Fellow partner 07 (talk) 07:53, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Fellow partner 07: Hi, you would first need to determine if the brand is notable enough. That is, has it been the subject of significant coverage in multiple reliable secondary sources that are independent of the subject? For example, reviews or coverage from reputable news outlets, or studies in journals. If so, you can create a draft for your article by following the instructions at Help:Your first article. Please keep in mind that if you have any conflict of interest with this brand, you must disclose it. Feel free to let me know if you have any other questions. Cheers! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:24, 16 October 2024 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in a research
[edit]Hello,
The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.
You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.
The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .
Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards,
BGerdemann (WMF) (talk) 19:28, 23 October 2024 (UTC)
I noticed your comment at the AfD. If the series were all redirected to entries in a list, we'd lose sight of the UK hardback cover images, which would be a pity as they are intelligent and carefully-chosen images. Copyright law means that we can include a cover image in an article about the book, but not in a list or an article about the author or any other topic. (I wish we could also include the US covers, as they are a complete contrast: example!) Most of the book articles include quite lengthy plot synopses, which would also be lost.
The AfD is ... interesting. The nominator has done very little editing except in connection with one article recently deleted at AfD. They have now nominated two articles at AfD, both of which were started by editors who participated in that AfD. Quite a coincidence. (But, WP:AGF, a plausible scenario is that they looked, out of curiosity, at the contributions of the editors who had taken part in the AfD and came across these two articles which they thought inappropriate for the encyclopedia.) PamD 07:56, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- @PamD: I would be opposed to simply redirecting the entries into a list. I was thinking that if there wasn't enough coverage of the other books (I have not checked), we could merge the contents of the less-notable articles (including the summaries, etc.) into a new single article covering the entire series, probably under the title Flavia Albia (currently a redirect to author). That way, the books do not meet NBOOK (if any) could be covered in that article instead.
- As for the nominator, a quick look through their edits shows to me that they're pretty much a beginner (as shown by the messed up AfD page). In any case, the editors participate in the AfD after the AfD is started, so it's probably a coincidence. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 08:13, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- Sorry, I misread your comment about the nominator. I do find it somewhat suspicious, but it's a new editor, so I'd AGF for now, as you mentioned. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 08:32, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- I think all the books are equally notable - they're a very consistent series, she publishes one a year, they get reviewed in serious places, the UK eds have fascinating covers (and the US ones look like trashy romances, to my eye!). There are 20 Falco titles and 12, to date, Flavia Albas. There was an attempt to get rid of some of them a few years ago (I can't remember off-hand whether they were PRODded or AfDd) but they were kept, and I'd hope they could continue. PamD 08:59, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- My COI is only as a reader. I've got her complete works on my shelves and they're among the few titles I buy as new hardbacks, a treat every April. She's an interesting woman: her past career as a civil servant informs her portrayal of behind-scenes machinations at the palace. PamD 09:01, 25 October 2024 (UTC)
- @PamD: If that's the case, then I'd be happy with leaving them all as stand-alone articles. (The covers are quite nice, I'll admit!) No worries about the COI, it's quite normal to have an author you like, and I was not concerned about it in the first place. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 09:19, 25 October 2024 (UTC)

Question from LunaExplorer
[edit]Thanks for being a mentor!
Could you provide me some guidance on the best course of action relating to this: Talk:UK_Infrastructure_Bank
I'm not sure whether we should create a new page or rename/rework the old page? Am I going about this the right way? LunaExplorer (talk) 19:48, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- @LunaExplorer: Hi! So long as the most recent news articles refer to the bank with its new name, I would just rename it, and rework the old page. However, if the press coverage is still using the old name, then leave the page at it's current title (For example, Twitter). Normally, a new page is not created just because the company is renamed. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 21:33, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Flavia books
[edit]Thanks for your recent contributions to these articles. As a fan of Davis's books, my pattern has been to create a list entry on her page and a redirect when the title is announced; create a stub when the cover image is available online; add a little more to the stub when I get home from the bookshop and have the hardback in my hands, delaying the pleasure of reading it. I should add "find and add a handful of reviews".
The AfD may or may not be connected with my participation in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jamila Musayeva, but it's an interesting coincidence that Kidzsearch, started by another participant, was nominated alongside. Ah well, WP:AGF, perhaps they just looked at our contributions list out of curiosity and spotted two apparently non-notable ones. PamD 06:01, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- @PamD: No problem, happy to help. I'm aware of the possible connections of the AfD, as you mentioned it here a few days ago. I'd still assume AGF, but the multiple attempted repeat votes does not give the best impression. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 06:40, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

Community Wishlist: What do you make of these ideas?
[edit]Hello, the Community Wishlist has gathered a collection of wishes and suggestions over time, highlighting the need for better support and guidance for newcomers as they create articles, while also aiming to reduce frustration and reverts. These ideas have been grouped under the Article Creation Guidance Focus Area.
Improving newcomer workflows may be of interest to you hence you are invited to help us explore these wishes, join the discussion on the focus area’s collective talk page, and cast your vote if you think the focus area will be something useful to prioritise.

Question from Ebrandt3007 (15:11, 1 November 2024)
[edit]Hi! I hope you are doing well :) I can write and speak spanish at an intermediate level, and encountered a page that I could add to for the spanish language. I am wondering how to edit in other languages -- thanks! --Ebrandt3007 (talk) 15:11, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Ebrandt3007: Hi! Simply go to the Wikipedia for that language (https://es.wikipedia.org/) and begin editing in Spanish the same way you would in English. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:28, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
I created a page on myself. I would like to know when it will be indexed so that it is visible to other for viewing. --Mohan1357 (talk) 05:01, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Mohan1357: Hi, I see that you have created it on your userpage. If you leave it there, it will not be indexed as it is a userpage, not an article. In general, new articles are started as drafts instead. That is, the beginning of the article starts with Draft:title. You can create one through the Wikipedia:Article wizard. I would move the content to a draft page, then submit it by placing {{subst:submit}} at top (please make sure you are using the source editor, not visual editor).
- As a side note, writing an autobiography is highly discouraged on Wikipedia, as it is a conflict of interest. As your article is right now, it is highly unlikely it will be accepted as the tone is too promotional, and there are too little references to prove claims and notability. I highly advise reading about our guidance on autobiographies first, at Wikipedia:Autobiography. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 05:12, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hey thanks @ARandomName123 for your response. I have created a draft as requested and submitted for review. Could you please check and reflect? Mohan1357 (talk) 05:54, 7 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Mohan1357: Please see the numerous messages on your user talk page. I can not currently see the draft, as it has been deleted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:46, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Hey, I just noticed your comment on the created article. I do have more sources but I didn't add them as it conflicts with the unambiguous advertising. But I do wanna show you if possible. Do you want to review? Nathanbyrd25 (talk) 04:44, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

- Google Knowledge Panel: https://g.co/kgs/C3mq8zy (It is generated by google only from trusted sources)
- This person seems to an artist as well. I did happen to find his Spotify artist profile: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0OSjTTuzVglE32S8qUi0rw
- This person also has an official artist channel on Youtube (Channel with music note) which is only possible if he is a genuine artist: https://www.youtube.com/@shirshaw64p
- This person also has a verified facebook page back from 2021 when paid verification wasn't even an option. Link: https://www.facebook.com/Shirshaw64p Nathanbyrd25 (talk) 04:54, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Nathanbyrd25: You were right to not add those sources, as none of them are independent of the article subject. They would not contribute towards the notability of the article. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:58, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, Thank you. But one thing is for sure. This person is notable enough. As per the references, one of them was a TV interview of a Bangladeshi News Channel. Some of the news were totally independent and verified. So could you consider publishing? I can keep looking for more references and add it on the way. Thanks. Nathanbyrd25 (talk) 05:01, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Verified as in I did contact with the publishers to identify if it is legitimate or not. As the claim to be youngest ethical hacker from a country does seem a big deal and without verification anyone can claim to be who they are. Nathanbyrd25 (talk) 05:04, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Nathanbyrd25: TV interviews with the article subject also would not count as independent sources. Being the youngest ethical hacker from a certain country does not mean they deserve an article, it depends on how much independent coverage they receive.
- As for publishing, I would wait for another reviewer to review the article. If I had intended to review it, I would have included the comment with the decision, instead of just leaving it alone as it is now. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 05:07, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
- Got it. Thanks for your time. Nathanbyrd25 (talk) 05:09, 17 November 2024 (UTC)
