Matador Network page review

[edit]

Thanks so much for reviewing this page. Would you be able to highlight specifically the language feel is promotional, advertorial or otherwise not neutral? This was written very carefully to be in Wikipedia's neutral style. There is no content that cannot be directly traced to one of the many high profile sources that are cited. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caffrey, Neil (talkcontribs) 17:21, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! The emphasis on numbers of followers, visitors, etc. in the lead, with things like is the largest independent online travel publisher definitely give a promotional aspect. This whole paragraph too:
After bootstrapping the company on $11,000, Borden scaled Matador Network into a seven-figure business and one of the largest travel brands on the web. Matador has thousands of travel writers, adventurers and influencers within its network, and has evolved from a branded content business into a full-fledged production studio making custom content for brands, hooking them up with its influencer network and distributing it to its millions of readers and social media followers.
Also, emphasizing likely non-notable rankings like Fast Company named Matador Network to its 2024 list of Most Innovative Companies, or some corporate keywords like a revamped platform, add to the promotional tone of the article. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 17:49, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate this feedback! Updated the draft based on these comments. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Caffrey, Neil (talkcontribs) 21:03, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Beautiful user page!!

[edit]

Hello! I've fallen in love with your userpage! I'm nb too, is it alright if I use your user page as a base to work on mine? It'd be for eswiki. No problem if not!! It's very original and I even shared it with some friends haha

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Chaotic Enby, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! Elli (talk | contribs) 23:55, 10 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'Nasah Kiam

[edit]

fwiw I updated your post about this, which has archived. I sort of expected that to unarchived it but apparently Things Do Not Work That Way. Anyway, not sure how much time you have to spend on this but I gotta go.just wanted you to know that your suspicions were further validated. I can't do anything about the coordination, sorry. Maybe SPI? Elinruby (talk) 21:52, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Elinruby Thanks a lot for the reply! I think the post has to be unarchived manually, otherwise I can send it to SPI. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 22:39, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, quickly replying here to your ANI comment: several of the sources do in fact mention the subject, but under their birth name of I'Nasah Crockett instead, so that's why searching for the name directly didn't reveal much. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 22:42, 14 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Aha. That name did come up several times in searching Google News I think (through my dyslexia is worse that usual right now. If I am right then something I noticed was an obituary, so that might explain why the article at this particular time.

I probably need to re-look at the references then; but based on memory the Crockett name came up quite a bit and they probably are at least a GNG pass. The zero results on anything was one of the reasons I thought I might be missing something like a name variant. I am going to leave it archived myself, but that an issue of my time management more than anything. Feel free to unarchive if that will help with the SPI investigation or whatever. I am no SPI expert either but based on some time spent on topics where socks proliferate, I *think* the weirdnesses you described would probably be considered enough behavioral evidence. I will find some time in the next few days to recheck the references for the other name. Black Twitter itself is definitely notable and probably does have some gaps in our coverage. Two of the sources are blogs though, but the Slate and NPR articles are enough to stave off AfD if the subject is indeed mentioned in them as an example. Thanks for the thanks. Probably the lead needs a note about the names, btw, given the principle of least astonishment, but for all I know there is a standard about this when it is a trans subject. I don't usually edit on that area. Elinruby (talk) 00:24, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

They're still active on Twitter, so the obituary was probably for someone else. For trans subjects, if they were notable under their previous name (which appears to be the case here), it should be mentioned just once in the lead to clarify. I think I already added that to the article. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 00:35, 15 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Yer right, it was Shafiqah Hudson [1]. It is entirely possible that you did mention the name variant in the lede and I missed it. This is why I avoiding sharp objects for the next week or two; busy and ADD/dyslexia compound one another. I will still re-review the references though, and possibly even improve them, as that is a small compact task that I can get done between all of the other muchness that is going on over here.

Troll at ANI

As you can see in the history, there is no point at all in rolling back a troll unless you can block them. Next time you see them, because you will likely see them again somewhere, just report them, so they don't have the satisfaction of putting it in the history a half a dozen times. Thanks. Operation Identification Flag

[edit]

Hi @Chaotic Enby. Thanks for your review of the new Operation Identification page. I revised the page attempting to respond to your {primary sources} tag: (1) I added a new secondary source (ref #1); (2) I added existing secondary sources as refs (from the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin journal) to some statements that were previously just see, e.g.-type citations to primary sources; and (3) I revised some of the article language to more accurately reflect analysis in the secondary source rather than relying solely on a primary source as a see, e.g.-type citation for analysis. I believe the article is now supported by appropriate secondary source citations and I tried to eliminate any analysis based solely on primary sources, but I welcome your additional discussion. If you still have concerns that prevent removing the {primary sources} tag, please help me understand which sections of the article you're concerned about. Thanks! Elindstr (talk) 16:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Elindstr Thanks a lot! This is definitely an improvement, although the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin journal is still not fully independent (being also part of the FBI), and completely independent sources would be ideal. Also, the primary sources (for their respective claims) to the National Neighborhood Watch could be replaced by secondary ones, and it would be great to see if a published study reports the claim currently sourced to a letter by Allend Voss to the Attorney General. Still, it is already much better! Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 22:24, 5 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I exhaustively searched and located secondary sources and I've now taken the article as far as I'm interested. I'd like to remove the flag now and move on. OK with you? Elindstr (talk) 00:59, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, the wording of the article is very much promotional and does not correspond to the neutral, encyclopedic tone expected. Wording like HeDPAC is led by prominent champions is clearly not neutral, and a lot of the article in general has a "corporate speak" tone – you can try to reword it by looking at other articles on similar initiatives!
Also, it would be good to clarify your connection with User:Alnjms, as you both created the same page at a close interval. Do you work together, or for HeDPAC, in any capacity? Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 21:57, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ANI comment

[edit]

Hello, Chaotic Enby,

I noticed your comment in an ANI discussion about "109 countries" but I couldn't find a reference to that phrase on the article that you linked to. If it is not too offensive, could you tell me what this phrase is referring to? Because I'm clueless. Liz Read! Talk! 02:56, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: Hi (since they haven't gotten back, I'll just quickly answer). The number 109 is white supremacist numeric shorthand for an antisemitic claim that Jews have been expelled from 109 different countries. (Sources on this are found here, here, here, here, here and here). Basically, it's never a good number when used in a context relating to Judaism. MemeGod chat 14:27, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I was about to write an answer, but you beat me to it! Thanks for the links and the explanation – to be honest, I'm surprised it wasn't in the article I linked, although given the number of absurd claims I understand they can't all be in there... WikiCup 2024 November newsletter

[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup has come to an end, with the final round being a very tight race. Our new champion is AirshipJungleman29 (submissions), who scored 2,283 points mainly through 3 high-multiplier FAs and 3 GAs on military history topics. By a 1% margin, Airship beat out last year's champion, Delaware BeanieFan11 (submissions), who scored second with 2,264 points, mainly from an impressive 58 GAs about athletes. In third place, Generalissima (submissions) scored 1,528 points, primarily from two FAs on U.S. Librarians of Congress and 20 GAs about various historical topics. Our other finalists are: Sammi Brie (submissions) with 879 points, Canada Hey man im josh (submissions) with 533 points, BennyOnTheLoose (submissions) with 432 points, Arconning (submissions) with 244 points, and Christmas Island AryKun (submissions) with 15 points. Congratulations to our finalists and all who participated!

The final round was very productive, and contestants had 7 FAs, 9 FLs, 94 GAs, 73 FAC reviews, and 79 GAN reviews and peer reviews. Altogether, Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors all through the contest. Well done everyone!

All those who reached the final will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or in the event of a tie, to the overall leader in this field.

Next year's competition will begin on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to see you all in the 2025 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners, and thank all participants for their involvement!

[edit]

Hello! How can I create a page? --Limelightmedia1991 (talk) 18:42, 5 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Limelightmedia1991 Hello! The best way is to start by making sure the topic is notable. While there are quite a few complicated guidelines at Wikipedia:Notability, a much simpler overview is given at Wikipedia:42. Find a few in-depth references from independent reliable sources (interviews or press releases aren't considered independent for our purposes), so you can write the article from the information they give you.
Then, when you feel like writing, you can start with a draft. For that, you can go to Wikipedia:Articles for creation, and read down to the "Click here to start a new article" button. Then, go through a few clicks to start a new, empty draft. When writing it, you can read Wikipedia:Your first article as a reference point. Once you have posted your edits and feel the article is ready, click "Submit" on the banner on top of it, and a reviewer will check the article for it to be published!
