Population indiscrepancy
[edit]The population of Bengalis is shown at 340 million which is not correct. The population of Bangladesh is shown at a whopping 190 million whereas it's only 171.2 million. The population of Bengalis in India is shown as 138 million whereas it's only 97.2 million. So it should be corrected.95.186.83.79 (talk) 16:19, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

::Thank you for highlighting the discrepancies in the population figures for Bengalis. Accurate data is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the article. Let's address each point with reliable sources:
- 1. **Population of Bangladesh**: According to the World Bank, Bangladesh's population was approximately 169.8 million in 2022. citeturn0search10
- 2. **Bengali Population in India**: The 2011 Census of India reported that West Bengal had a population of about 91 million, with Bengalis constituting the majority. Other states like Assam and Tripura also have significant Bengali-speaking populations. However, comprehensive data from the 2021 Census is not yet available.
- 3. **Total Bengali Population**: Combining the figures from Bangladesh and India, the Bengali-speaking population is estimated to be over 250 million. This aligns with the statement that Bengalis are the third-largest ethnic group globally. citeturn0search12
