I recently moved my draft about Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adaby to the main article space. However, when i search for it on my browser it's display there was a problem displaying this page --Rayinde11 (talk) 10:03, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Rayinde11: Where are you searching for it? On Wikipedia? I can see it in these results. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 10:05, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for your response! I've confirmed that the article exists on Wikipedia, but when I searched for it in my web browser, it doesn't show up yet. Rayinde11 (talk) 10:33, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, got it. That requires indexing by search engines, which is only done after the article is patrolled. New pages patrol has a backlog of over 10,000 articles right now, but a reviewer will get to it eventually. Meanwhile you can improve on the article OR work on other things within Wikipedia (e.g. Wikipedia:Task Center). Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 11:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! I'll keep making improvements to the article while I wait for it to be patrolled. I'll also look into other tasks on Wikipedia in the meantime. Appreciate the advice. Rayinde11 (talk) 15:29, 29 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi MPGuy2824! Thanks for the advice. I noticed that the article still isn’t appearing in search engine results, even though it shows up within Wikipedia’s search. Rayinde11 (talk) 05:41, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- Rayinde11, it will take some time. It's hard to find reviewers who know the subject. Meanwhile, our backlog has increased to 11,000 articles. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:57, 6 November 2024 (UTC)
- okay what do you suggest i do Rayinde11 (talk) 09:56, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

Question from Rightmostdoor6 (18:51, 30 October 2024)
[edit]Hi, good evening. I had a query. There is a certain piece of info that I have with the proper approved documents that needs to be changes in a certain page. After i changed it, it got reverted and the change was no longer there. How is that I can bring about the change since the info that I have is accurate. Would be great if you could guide --Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 18:51, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Rightmostdoor6: Welcome to Wikipedia. I notice that quite a few of your earlier edits have been reverted. Could you point to the one where you have changed information and added a reliable source? Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:05, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, there is a page . In that the eaeliest attestation date of the Marathi language is 8th century CE. But it is incorrect since the government of India has produced an official document that affirms the date of the year 2,200 BCE i.e. late 3rd century BCE. I even attached the official document that has the latest correct info. The link is below for reference -
- [1]https://pib.gov.in/FeaturesDeatils.aspx?NoteId=153318&ModuleId+=+2®=3&lang=1
- Also i corrected some grammatical errors under the 'criteria of 2024' section but even those were reverted. Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 08:10, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- earliest* attestation date. Apologies for the typo Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 08:11, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- I've noticed a few of your older edits don't have edit summaries. Please try to always add those, explaining your reasoning for the addition/deletion. Also, on Wikipedia, we try to follow WP:BRD. Since the bold and revert parts of those are already done, you should start a discussion on the article's talk page with the editors who reverted your edits. Try to discuss only one point at a time starting with what you consider to be the most important. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:49, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok sure thanks, henceforth i'll make an edit summary and yes i did not change it back after it was reverted. Also thanks for pointing it out Rightmostdoor6 (talk) 08:57, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

No need to Send me Deletion Message of Educational Institute articles
[edit]Hi.. I (user:Soumitrahazra) found that you have recently proposed many educational institute related articles for deletion because of lacking notability criteria. I agree with you that most of the Indian educational institutes related articles lack notability. Previously there is no such notability criteria for educational institutes. It was believed that as educational institutes are responsible for the knowledge creation of future generations, they are by default notable. However, some wikipedians argued that most of the educational institutes are not notable because they do not have any newspaper or third party coverage. Eventually they are able to make it a rule. This rule highly favored the educational institutes of Europe and USA. In USA and Europe, their newspapers cover almost every school, college, university sports and their achievements. Because of that almost every educational institute (even a primary school) have a significant coverage. Most of the USA/Europe newspapers publish at least one page of their newspaper on educational institutes. That's not the case for India. Indian newspapers (even local) do not publish much on educational institute... as a country we ignore the education. Indian newspapers are full of politicians, murder, scandal etc. It is very difficult to find out newspaper coverage of a school in India. Because of that rule almost 99 % Indian educational institutes are not notable and lacks the criteria.
Once upon a time I created many educational institute related articles, that time there was no such criteria. Nowadays I am not an active Wikipedian anymore. I also do not have any interest on wikipedia. I sometimes create newly established university, medical college, engineering college related articles...even some of them lacks notability criteria. If someone wants to delete all of them... I have nothing to say. However, I think these articles are better to keep...if someone asks a student about their school, they can at least search wikipedia and give some answer. I live in USA, every student do the same. Indian students simply can not say anything. I do not know why some wikipedians made that rule....It is a cultural difference issue...If a politician or village articles can stay in wikipedia without notability, why not an educational institute. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Soumitrahazra (talk • contribs) 12:59, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Soumitrahazra, So, knowing that your creations don’t meet our notability criteria, you still keep creating those articles and continue to abuse the Autopatrolled right. Could you please respond to this message on your talk page? GrabUp - Talk 13:06, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- I do not think I abused. In recent years, I generally try to provide at least one or two reliable newspaper coverage and one additional coverage from some affiliation entity (like UGC, NMC etc). Before that there is no such rule. Only few cases, you will find just one you tube link. Again for medical college, National Medical Commission list is very worthy and reliable. You are also doing Redirect of some college to their parent university. That is also not the case in case of Indian context. In Indian context, affiliating university just arrange the exam...they have nothing to do with the administration of the college. Affiliating medical universities also do not provide any degree courses, sometimes they are just a building like a board/council. Every college needs affiliation from UGC, AICTE etc... you can not redirect all of them to UGC/AICTE. Soumitrahazra (talk) 17:01, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Again notability is very difficult to judge. It varies from person to person perspective. One can say only educational institutes who have Nobel prize winner are notable. However, in wikipedia, newspaper (local or global) coverage is agreed to be a criteria for notability. Soumitrahazra (talk) 17:04, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- You may say whether the newspaper is reliable. Wikipedia by default accepts only reliable newspaper. If you try to cite any unreliable newspaper, wikipedia will automatically remove that. Soumitrahazra (talk) 17:09, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- However, I am against #Redirect to parent university. That means we are providing a wrong information to a global community. It is thus better to delete not redirect. Soumitrahazra (talk) 17:12, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

- @Soumitrahazra: So, do you think your creations are meeting notability guidelines? If not, then it’s clearly an abuse of the AP flag. You mentioned providing two newspapers in your recent creations, but those are just passing mentions, not what’s required to meet WP:NSCHOOL or WP:GNG. We need in-depth coverage of the institute to establish notability, not passing mentions. I urge you to request the removal of your AP flag yourself, or I will take this to ANI, where a wider community of editors may get involved. Redirecting is a valid thing per WP:ATD and we are doining it by consensus. GrabUp - Talk 17:37, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

- I use Twinkle for PROD tagging. It is recommended to contact the page's creator when doing so, but Twinkle does not show the creator's username in such cases. I will try to remember to uncheck the relevant box for Indian educational institutions, since I think that is the majority of your past creations. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 13:27, 31 October 2024 (UTC)

Weird taxobox
[edit]Thanks for your help fixing the taxobox here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakaduacris
Could you help us fix this taxon box too? Not sure what we are doing wrong! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stropis
Would love to know what I'm doing wrong here.
Thanks!
--Petasida (talk) 06:50, 4 November 2024 (UTC)
- The taxon in the article itself needed to be set to the genus name only: [2]
- A taxon template needed to be created, by clicking the "fix" link: Template:Taxonomy/Stropis
- That's all. Thanks for creating these genus articles. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:57, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Updates for editors
- Stewards can now make global account blocks cause global autoblocks. This will assist stewards in preventing abuse from users who have been globally blocked. This includes preventing globally blocked temporary accounts from exiting their session or switching browsers to make subsequent edits for 24 hours. Previously, temporary accounts could exit their current session or switch browsers to continue editing. This is an anti-abuse tool improvement for the Temporary Accounts project. You can read more about the progress on key features for temporary accounts. [3]
- Wikis that have the CampaignEvents extension enabled can now use the Collaboration List feature. This list provides a new, easy way for contributors to learn about WikiProjects on their wikis. Thanks to the Campaign team for this work that is part of the 2024/25 annual plan. If you are interested in bringing the CampaignEvents extension to your wiki, you can follow these steps or you can reach out to User:Udehb-WMF for help.
- The text color for red links will be slightly changed later this week to improve their contrast in light mode. [4]
- View all 32 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, on multilingual wikis, users can now hide translations from the WhatLinksHere special page.
Updates for technical contributors
- XML data dumps have been temporarily paused whilst a bug is investigated. [5]

Leader of the Opposition (Japan)
[edit]Hi,
I've declined your G4 speedy request on Leader of the Opposition (Japan), and just wanted to pop by to explain why.
I looked at the old article which was deleted following Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Leader of the Opposition (Japan), and this version has much more main body content and sources, so it's not merely a case of recreation of the deleted version. I think it potentially also makes a better case for notability. Also, at least one of the articles on the past holders of this post use the term LOTO, so it's possible it's an actual thing. I say only 'possible', because the comments in that AfD seemed to suggest this could be just a generic term and not an actual position. Anyway, that AfD had minimal participation (only one !vote), so I didn't think that necessarily represented community consensus; in other words, I'm treating that outcome as a 'soft delete' rather than a binding precedent.
Hope that's okay. Give me a shout if you disagree violently. :)
Best, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 14:44, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- No worries. You are able to compare the current article with the deleted version and so can take a more informed decision. Congrats on the mop, btw.

Taxonomy template references
[edit]Please add a reference when creating taxonomy templates. I have added one here, for example. Thanks. YorkshireExpat (talk) 07:01, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sure, I assume that most taxons will be available on CoL (except maybe a very newly defined one). If it isn't available there then what other places do you look for such a ref? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:07, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- Some people have strong feelings about what to use. Most things in the taxonbar are ok I feel. A dodgy reference is better than none. YorkshireExpat (talk) 15:47, 11 November 2024 (UTC)

. Invoking the function now returns a copy of values which are immutable. [8] - Wikimedia REST API users, such as bot operators and tool maintainers, may be affected by ongoing upgrades. The API will be rerouting some page content endpoints from RESTbase to the newer MediaWiki REST API endpoints. The impacted endpoints include getting page/revision metadata and rendered HTML content. These changes will be available on testwiki later this week, with other projects to follow. This change should not affect existing functionality, but active users of the impacted endpoints should verify behavior on testwiki, and raise any concerns on the related Phabricator ticket.

Could you review Studies in Machiavellianism?
[edit]Greetings MPGuy2824,
This article was made about 2 months ago, but no one reviewed the article since. I was wondering if you could review it.
Thank you, Plasticwonder (talk) 17:40, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
- Plasticwonder, I've not really looked into how to judge the notability of books, so I'm not going to be reviewing that. But, even for someone who reviews book articles regularly, I would say that the lack of online sources mentioned in the article might lead to them skipping over the article. Additionally, we have over 12,000 articles in the backlog right now to review. So, you'll have to be patient. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:14, 17 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Updates for editors
- Users of Wikimedia sites will now be warned when they create a redirect to a page that doesn't exist. This will reduce the number of broken redirects to red links in our projects. [10]
- View all 42 community-submitted tasks that were resolved last week. For example, Pywikibot, which automates work on MediaWiki sites, was upgraded to 9.5.0 on Toolforge. [11]
Updates for technical contributors
- On wikis that use the FlaggedRevs extension, pages created or moved by users with the appropriate permissions are marked as flagged automatically. This feature has not been working recently, and changes fixing it should be deployed this week. Thanks to Daniel and Wargo for working on this. [12][13]
In depth
- There is a new Diff post about Temporary Accounts, available in more than 15 languages. Read it to learn about what Temporary Accounts are, their impact on different groups of users, and the plan to introduce the change on all wikis.
Meetings and events
- Technical volunteers can now register for the 2025 Wikimedia Hackathon, which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. Application for travel and accommodation scholarships is open from November 12 to December 10 2024. The registration for the event will close in mid-April 2025. The Wikimedia Hackathon is an annual gathering that unites the global technical community to collaborate on existing projects and explore new ideas.
- Join the Wikimedia Commons community calls this week to help prioritize support for Commons which will be planned for 2025–2026. The theme will be how content should be organised on Wikimedia Commons. This is an opportunity for volunteers who work on different things to come together and talk about what matters for the future of the project. The calls will take place November 21, 2024, 8:00 UTC and 16:00 UTC.
- A Language community meeting will take place November 29, 16:00 UTC to discuss updates and technical problem-solving.

Question from Torusfield8 on Kika Thorne (21:56, 19 November 2024)
[edit]Hi there, I have updated the page, and wonder how long the wait usually is? Thanks! --Torusfield8 (talk) 21:56, 19 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Torusfield8: I'm not seeing any edits by you on that page. It is possible that you didn't click the "Publish" button after making your changes. I've posted a message on your talk page. Go through those links when you find the time, but I'd suggest that you start and complete WP:TWA first. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:28, 20 November 2024 (UTC)
Question from Tyruscollins (02:19, 21 November 2024)
[edit]How does one check on the status of an article submitted? I helped my friend write a bio/background article for his company, but I haven't figured out how to check status on it. --Tyruscollins (talk) 02:19, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Tyruscollins: What do you mean by status? Meanwhile, you should read WP:COI and see if it applies to you. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:44, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
