Hello, my name is Jeff. On Wikipedia, I go by JeffSpaceman, but feel free to just call me by my name.
I am a student at the University of Southern Maine, majoring in communication and media studies. I have been editing Wikipedia since 2020. I initially started editing here when I was a 17-year-old junior in high school, due to the COVID-19 pandemic giving me a lot more free time, which I originally used to edit on-and-off anonymously during the spring of 2020 before I registered my account. But as I became more interested in seriously editing here, I thought it would make sense to officially join the site. While there have been times where I've disappeared from Wikipedia for weeks (sometimes even months) on end due to my frequently hectic school and work schedule since then, I am genuinely passionate about editing here. I primarily spend my time patrolling recent changes, where I frequently revert vandalism and additions of unsourced or non-neutral content to articles, as well as editing articles about various fields that I am interested in, including music that I listen to (which you can see in the links to my profiles on streaming websites located on this user page), as well as topics relevant to my identity.
If you run into a problem with my editing, please do not hesitate to contact me on my talk page.
For the record, in case anybody cares, my username comes from a combination of my name and my long-standing interest in the ethereal and the otherworldly.
Gender and sexual identity
[edit]
I am an openly queer man who uses he/him pronouns. I originally came out as bisexual in 2018, but grew to realize that I was more attracted to other men. Not wanting to tie my hand behind my back by unambiguously defining myself as gay, however, I have used queer as an identity marker since late 2023, and prefer to be referred to as such.
Naturally, my editing, through my interests and interactions, tends to reflect my relationship with the world around me as an openly queer college student from the Northeast. Because of this, I frequently tend to edit LGBTQ-related pages, whether they are about members of the community, landmarks, icons, or even controversial figures or topics within the community. Similarly, when I find vandalism or BLP violations that explicitly derogate members of marginalized communities, I tend to be very stern with my warnings. Through spending years studying topics such as intersectionality, I have learned how a lot of the same tactics used to discriminate against queer people have also been used against other disadvantaged groups, which is why I am often very firm warning those who insert bigoted slurs or smears into pages, as I find such edits very offensive on a personal basis.
Being queer is just an essential part of who I am. I have a lot more confidence to talk about these things as someone who came of age in the late 2010s and early 2020s, particularly with the rise of third-wave feminism and increased discussion of intersectional discrimination, than I probably would have if I were even ten years older. The language to talk about such things is constantly evolving, and I am very happy to see it doing so, especially as I navigate early adulthood and try to find my place in the world.

My general rule of thumb for awarding this barn-star. If I see someone so many times while patrolling recent changes that I remember their username, I give out this star and jolly god I am not forgetting yours anytime soon. Field Marshal Aryan (talk) 17:18, 27 June 2020 (UTC)
