A tag has been placed on USS Rockville (PCE-851) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from the article namespace to a different namespace except the Category, Template, Wikipedia, Help, or Portal namespaces.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Information icon Thank you for your contributions. Please mark your edits, such as your recent edits to Draft:Tampa-class cutter, as "minor" only if they are minor edits. In accordance with Help:Minor edit, a minor edit is one that the editor believes requires no review and could never be the subject of a dispute. Minor edits consist of things such as typographical corrections, formatting changes or rearrangement of text without modification of content. Additionally, the reversion of clear-cut vandalism and test edits may be labeled "minor". Thank you. Tol (talk | contribs) @ 18:25, 4 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on USRC Ingham requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
  • is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. MB 05:45, 7 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I noticed you revert anything that I do without providing any reason. You keep adding the same things over and over. Please stop, and review what has been done before reverting my edits. Regards.Crook1 (talk) 05:16, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Crook1: Hello Cook1, I apologize if it seems that way. I have been putting back information which I believe was lost in several edits I discarded from us editing the same page at the same time. I added/removed the same thing as you specifically mentioned it to be unnecessary (anchors, city names followed by states, etc) which you undid along with other pieces of information which you don't give a reason for, or the reason applies to something else. Several things (such as the infobox/gallery) was not rendering correctly, so I had to reapply them. I also don't understand why you removed the images. They originated from Hatitrust as public domain images, which is reflected in the images' pages. I apologize if my edits have been blunt, I was following your lead as you are more experienced. I will have to be doing something else soon, so you are free to edit the article to your liking. Sincerely, GGOTCC 05:30, 12 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Costanzo Ciano-class cruiser

[edit]

Hello GGOTCC,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Costanzo Ciano-class cruiser for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Costanzo Ciano-class cruiser to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

EFFECTIVE ERASURE OF 95 PERCENT OF HMS (hmnzs) ROYALIST article by GGOTCC (US COASTGUARD) a non NEW ZEalander, Non Commonwealth, non naval ANZUS, five eyes officer, rating or commentatorr

[edit]

The first question is why and on whose advice. The suspicion is that a bland inoffensive article has been inserted to serve the interests of certain non military authorities, NZ MFAT, Cabinet Ministers and servants of the interests of foreign powers and services, nb CCP, PLN. The majority of the previous article was written by me anon between 2011 -2023 to counter the year zero neutralist foreign and defence policy of the NZ Key and subsequent English and Arden governments.

The revised article excluded the discussion of the Royalist and other proposed Dido/ Bellona class cruiser reconstructions as an effective interim AA/AD platform proving area defence in the 1956-1963 period before the USN Terrier Tartar missiles could would function effectively as anti aircraft weapons post 1964 in USN, RAN or prospectively RN service. The alternative RN expenditure of Destroyer conversions of the CA and Weapon class was hardly effective or useful while in the case of RNZN the T12 Rothesay and Leander class has an effective range of only about 3300nm at 14 knots due to over reliance of filtering without compensating tanks as used fuel was balanced by inflow of compensating seawater.

Also removed from the HMS Royalist is the fact that Royalist was able to operate with the RNZN only with extensive crewing by RN officers and financial and refit assistance by the USN at Pearl Harbour in 1965. Royalist is also a major NZ Political and Historical topic, shedding critical light on the career of Cpt Peter Phipps and later MFAT Head Frank Corner, both far more left and controversial figures than now acknowledged. Phipps and Corner assertion that the Royalist was an obsolete orphan was wrong. The Royalists 5.25 DP armament was highly effective as an AA weapon while the standard RN twin 4 inch and 4.5 turrets were useless in the post war AA role. Part of the objection to the Royalist was the relatively heavy 5.25 shore bombardment capability seen as an obscenity by NZ and UK diplomats and politicians. Adequate stocks of 5.25 ammunition remained for reserve battleships, shore batteries of 5.25 guns covered the Straight of Gibraltar till, the end of the cold war. The Royalists sister ship the former HMS Diadem was never a Pakistan training ship, it reentered PLN operational service in 1961 after fitting with USN Electronic warfare ECM/ ESM and USN Carrier communication systems. Diadem was still operational and at sea at the time of the 1971 war with India. My motivation is maintaining some balance in NZ History given the overwhelming left wing nature of the historical profession and NZ History generally and the issue of economic efficiency and combat effectiveness in defence expenditure. In NZ case seems to me to overwhelmingly favor the RNZAF. my own qualifications are a BA from Victoria University Wellington awarded in 1979 and a B.Com in Accountancy awarded by Canterbury Uni in Christchurch in 2005. I also have 2 relevant post graduate degree a MA 2/2 in Political Science from Canterbury and a 3 in History from Canterbury which I accepted in 2011, five years after I completed the course as I doubted the legality of the Uni downgrading my status from 2/2 to 3 in similar disciplines with the obvious parallel, to Tony Blair being downgraded from 2/2 to 3 in Law at Oxford Uni. The point has to made that Honours degrees in NZ are half filled by students who haven't got jobs or don't know what to do: that the environment is different from undergraduate courses where the student works individually without much interaction with staff or other students. In Hons once faces an environment of many communists and classes of provocatively dressed females which is distracting and a difficult environment for anybody at all hetrosexual. In 21C NZ postgraduate degrees are marked on presentational and PC grounds and in Law, Politics and History thesis work can not clash with the operational policy of NZ MFAT. I attended Uni because my parents were highly educated teachers and because I always intended on a university career given that I in a sense became aware of politics in 1967 and 1970. My second undergraduate degree in Commerce was because it was my original intention to do Economics from the time I was first interested in university and as early as the 1970s viewed Economics qualifications on the bass of future power in NZ. My second undergraduate degree was to gain enough knowledge of market economics to defend the economic reforms which in some senses I have done. My first aim was to go to University and to qualify as a civil servant. However the uninteresting nature of Wellington and Muldoons, sinking lid graduate public service cuts of 1979 changed my course. Pursuing Journalism and jobs in the Ministry of Defence in 1980-1985 were the only real options due to my family background of teachers, academics and substantial investment in Australian banks, minerals and oil. It was not my intention to do honours degree and the second BA Hons was attempted at the request of the university. I felt the course, below my standing as a serious defence and political commentator and would have preferred to remain at university by just enrolling in odd science and arts units.. Numerous completely untrue allegations have been made against my family and me. My grandfather Frederick Fisher Miles is attacked in S J Harpers work on NZers who served in British Army regiments and many claims have been made to me that my father Alan Miles ( no middle name) was not a WW2 officer and did not serve. He travelled to the UK with one of the echelons in 1940 and transferred to the RN training with later professor Brian Philpot later a Lincoln Professor. Alan Miles served notably on the command ship HMS Khedive for Operation Dragoon. He was nominated for a Rhodes Scholarship in 1946 by Victoria Uni was a Victoria Uni lecturer in 1948 and attended Oxford Uni on a travelling scholarship in the Atlee austerity of 1949-50. In 1955 he reentered the NZ Army at a lower rank of Army Lt as a Cadet and Territorial officer while teaching at TBHS and later commanded the unit retiring as Major.

Slanders have been made about me largely by members of the rural NZ National Party. In truth I was extensively employed back in the day as a leader writer and defence and political commentator by the NBR, Timaru Herald a many other publications. I also wrote a number of academic papers on dfence and international relations published by noted NZ Naval Historian Ian McGibbon in the NZIIA. Robert F Miles. Age 67. Hello!
I want to start off by establishing that my work on the Royalist article was to copy edit, as the old version was incredibly dense, hard to follow, and often went on long tangents largely irrelevant to what would be found in an encyclopedic article. I implore you to review the Manual of Style, especially WP:EPSTYLE, Wikipedia:Summary style, and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. Many other Wikipedia articles (especially those rated GA) are good examples of how paragraphs are structured and what information is included on the site.
I removed the Terrier refit as part of my copy edit because the text was nonsensical and would confuse the reader as the modifications never occurred and lack context. A more brief explanation may suffice, but the article in its current state already covers her 1953 refit and use as an AA cruiser. Are these not what you are referring to? The article also covers her refit in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, which to the average reader would indicate American assistance. Even now, I struggle to understand what you are describing, an issue multiple editors have mentioned on Royalist’s talk page.
Wikipedia can be edited to anyone, and you are free to add information you feel is necessary to maintain a good encyclopedia article and cover relevant ideas. However, your regular admittance of your political bias is a blatant conflict of interest, and this article may not be for you.
Your opening accusations against me is objectively false in every way, and I hold no grudge against New Zealand or yourself. Until I read the article as part of a copy editing drive, I was not aware New Zealand even had a navy, and as an American, I have no interest in, nor understanding, of the nation’s inter-political conflicts. I was also born well after Royalist left service and have no connections to either the ship or the entirety of Oceania.
And as a fellow heterosexual male, I struggle to understand why the way women dress would be at all relevant to one's education, and how that is relevant to the structure of an online article.
Does this help clarify your concerns?
Cheers,

Distraction. These courses are largely female dominated and the dress style inn 2006 Christchurch was blatant. The course and assessment structure of these courses is now female focused The questioning of the military, war and Oxford records of my father and grandfather is a travesty and criminal insult .I understand my father left Balliol in 1950 because he chose not to complete the lesser degree of B.Lit by simply completing his degree by submitting a bibliography for his work on Milton, having effectively failed the Phd std. Part of the citation problem with the article is due to frequent random criminal vandalism on it
.
Editing of the article by a US Coastguard officer without knowledge of NZ History seems extraordinarily inappropriate given that a former RNZN officer had been previously doing the work and RN or RAN officers, eg from Australian seapower officers might havebeen more relevamt. 130.216.69.80 (talk) 07:06, 31 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
if you would like a second opinion from someone with a better understanding of the politics, feel free to ask the folks at Wikiproject Ships or Wikiproject New Zealand to review the current article and pre-copy edit version. That being said, it appears you have already burnt that bridge with several members, although I always appreciate additional help. Again, my edits to the page regarded readability and maintaining an encyclopedic tone, irrelevant of personal beliefs.
I'll also like to ask why you have made an assumption of my job, and why you had offended yourself based off said assumption?
Best,

Hi GGOTCC, coming here to explain my reversion of your recent edit and came across this...diatribe from the IP editor identifying himself as Robert Miles. I would disregard the above discourteous comments as Mr Miles looks to have no interest in constructive collaboration and does not appear to understand, or want to understand, the principles of editing Wikipedia e.g. NPOV, AGF among others. It is to your credit you have engaged with him as politely as you have done. Cheers, Zawed (talk) 08:59, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see, thank you! I would have undone my edit as well. 👍

Draft:Capture of U-505

[edit]

Hello!

I noticed you hadn’t edited your draft of the capture of U-505 for a long while (well over a year). I was concerned that you wouldn’t finish it. I was wondering if I could possibly work on it some and hopefully get it into enough shape to be an article? I’ll credit you as the creator, ofc.

Thanks! -Emily (PhoenixCaelestis) (talk) 16:25, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Of course, please be my guest! I stopped editing when I forgot about it (oops), hence it being half finished. Everything in bold is personal notes, which you can ignore. I will help get it into a more presentable condition, while we could share credit!
Best,
GGOTCC (talk) 16:31, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And I do appologize for the popr shape of the draft, I will try and make it readable. GGOTCC (talk) 16:32, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! -Emily (PhoenixCaelestis) (talk) 18:49, 12 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Couple of things real quick. I'm starting to italicize ship names and add links, and I've noticed a few things that I'm not sure if they're mistakes or deliberate by you. Snorkel was spelled "schnorkel" at one point. The main page for U-505 says that it was reported and captured off of Cape Verde, which is in the Atlantic, but your infobox says it was Midway Atoll, which is in the Pacific. Just wanted some clarification! -Emily (PhoenixCaelestis) (talk) 13:00, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The infobox was copied from the Battle of Midway's infobox, hence the odd information. The engagment was in the greater area of Cape Verde, with several sources refering to it as West Africa or the Southeast Atlantic. Since this is an English article, "snorkel" would be the best spelling of the term, although it is called "schnorkel" by the Germans. Thanks for catching that!
If there is anything else you see that seems odd or wrong, feel free to do whatever you think would be best. WP:BOLD!
Thank you, GGOTCC (talk) 15:19, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know if I should refer to the U-boats as "she" or "it"? I feel like she feels better, as ships are traditionally referred to as feminine, but I'm not quite sure if the same still applies to submarines. -Emily (PhoenixCaelestis) (talk) 16:35, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Both are fine, and it is often up to the author. Feminine pronouns often apply to submarines, although 'it' may be more clear in context. I try to use "she" whenever there is one ship that may be refered to, but again, it would be whatever you think makes sense. GGOTCC (talk) 16:42, 13 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't have tons of time rn so I made a few minor edits, I'll probably edit some more in the coming days. I've renamed Legacy to Aftermath, and I've added notes about possibly mentioning U-505's renaming to USS Nemo and usage by the USN. Also, I have a question about the links in the references section: Are those already lined up with sources, or do you want me to go through and figure out where I could cite them?
Thanks again for letting me take on this project! -Emily (PhoenixCaelestis) (talk) 19:16, 14 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
