The Meeting

[edit]

Want to meet a Friendly Face first?

[edit]

We know it can be difficult for some people to walk into a group of strangers without knowing anyone. If you'd like to meet up with a friendly face before the meeting or to have a chat to see if this group is for you please contact Dianne on info @ wikimedia.nz Dianne will be overjoyed to introduce you to one of the group who will be available to meet up with you for coffee and chat. They can also be on hand to meet you prior to the meeting and walk in with you and introduce you to the group. Whatever will make you comfortable.

Round table for participants to say what you’re working on

[edit]
  • Avocadobabygirl (talk): We had the research expeditions editathon! I've been working more on the Te Maori editathon, and we now have a Museum Studies student to help with the project. The current goal is one editathon in later September and another in October. Local Wikipedians will be extremely welcome, especially to help with newer editors. I've loaded a set of illustrations by Nancy Adams to Commons, which includes a ton of great images of seaweeds. I've made good progress on Te Papa's ability to report on the impact of staff editing, which I'll make available soon on our project page. Staff learning sessions continue, with one on images next week. Soon I should also have new Wikidata items up for the artists and collectives listed on Satellites (for those that are missing), and from there will be working with one of our curators to enrich the items and think ahead to supporting article creation.
  • User:Gertrude206 has continued work on the expeditions and expanded the 1954 Chatham Islands expedition. Also did an article on the Auckland church Kāhui St David's and is working on an article on a British women playwright Margaret Macnamara (Women in Red).
  • User:Wainuiomartian: Found a wharf omitted from Wharves in Wellington Harbour and has added it. Expanded an existing article on the Wellington Urban Motorway, and took some photos for it too.
  • User:AxonsArachnida: Attended expedition editathon. Spider species pages (big chunky spiders).
  • User:Noracrentiss: Attended expedition editathon, paired up with a new editor and got a lot done. Meeting with Avocadobabygirl to debrief about the editathon with an eye to the Otari Wilton's Bush editathon later in the year. Have drafted an application for funds from WANZ. Gotten back to working on articles about women.

Future events

[edit]
If you're an event organiser, don't forget to add your event as a program to the Campaign Dashboard July 2024 - June 2025. The Dashboard is a key tracking tool for reporting back to Wikimedia Foundation and will help us ensure that we get funding in future years. If you are unsure how to add programs to the Campaign dashboard you can find further information here on how to create a new event dashboard and how to link it to the overall campaign dashboard. Alternatively contact: Ambrosia10 (talk) on her talk page for help.
If you're interested in organising a Wiki event, Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ) provides support funding. Contact admin @ wikimedia.nz for more information on how to apply. It's really simple - we promise!
