  • Get on with problem solving, editing, and chatting

Outcomes

[edit]
  • Discussion of the group determined that "Resource of the week" would be better spent talking about "Tool of the week" particularly focused on Wikidata tools. The decision of the group is to do a show and tell and then practice.
  • Action Point for next meeting: each member will bring a spreadsheet (small or large) to practice Quick Statements - bulk uploading of data to Wikidata and Tabernacle - editing of sets of data live to Wikidata
  • Action Point for the following meeting: Each member come to the group with resources to learn Open Refine - a tool for working with messy data
  • Quilt Phase (talk) completed a show and tell of the New Zealand Film Commission dataset he is working on in Open Refine with the goal of importing this dataset into Wikidata. He talked through his work process with Open Refine. He noted that one of the pieces of information he was using was from a PDF - he used the Tabula app - a product that extracts the data from tables in a PDF to get the information into a spreadsheet format. Einebillion (talk) noted that any New Zealand Government agency datasets can be requested from the Data.Govt.NZ service who will liaise with the government agency to help release the dataset in an openly licensed and reusable format. The data set in Wikidata was started by using [Mix 'n Match] to create Wikidata Q items for New Zealand feature films using the [NZ On Screen] ID. Once these Wikidata Q numbers were created, Quilt Phase (talk can now add the additional information to Q item.
