Meetup Code of Conduct and Anonymity when Meeting Via Video Conference

[edit]

All attendees are expected to understand and abide by the Draft Universal Code of Conduct for the Wikimedia Movement.

This video conferencing meetup is a replacement for an in-person meetup. While attending and remaining anonymous is supported by the group, lurking is not supported and will be actively discouraged. All attendees are expected to use their User name as an identifier on the video conference call and to introduce themselves and their interest in joining the call on the chat channel of the call as a minimum. Participation using video and / or voice in addition to Chat is encouraged but not required.

Some members of the group have been the target of cyber bullying in the past and these measures are intended to support creating a safe space for collaboration.

If a new attendee joins the group with video and voice disabled, they will be encouraged to participate by the facilitator, using this script:

Welcome new attendee. This group respects your right to remain anonymous. This group has a policy of discouraging lurking as it makes some of us uncomfortable. If you are happy to introduce yourself over voice, please let us know what you've been working on and if you need help with any editing issues.
If you're not comfortable updating the group by voice, then that's okay. You have the option of introducing yourself and adding your user page link into the chat feature. The chat is deleted once the video conference finishes.
If you want to remain completely anonymous and not chat, then this meetup is not for you. We make comprehensive and extensive notes of the meetup that will be included in the meetup page afterwards. That's the best way to catch up with what this meetup has been doing if you don't want to contribute during the video call.
If you're not sure how to use the chat feature you can access it by clicking on the icon that looks like a speech bubble in the bottom left corner.

If, after an appropriate length of time, the new attendee does not participate by video, voice, or chat, the facilitator of the group will remove the attendee from the video call.

If the new attendee persists in logging in, the group will discuss abandoning the meet up.

Chat for sharing pastes, URLs and so on

[edit]

The Jitsi video conferencing platform has a chat feature. This is used to share URLs and other commentary while the discussions are occurring. The facilitators may take a copy to help with writing up outcomes from the meeting on the meeting Wikipedia page. Any copies will be deleted once outcomes and notes are completed.

The two collaborations considered were for the 1Lib1Ref 2022 campaign and a 2022 International Women's Day editathon. For further information see the notes of the meeting. Want to let the community know that these discussions/planning are continuing into the new year so let Ambrosia10 know if you are interested in participating. -Ambrosia10 (talk)

4. Round table for participants to say what you’re working on and if you need help to do anything or want anything demonstrated – You can add requests for help here prior to the meeting if you want

  • Gertrude206 - updating Wikipedia articles but no great projects.
  • Oronsay - lots of all sorts of things, science awards, editor "aroundtheworld" editor women Netballers - 3 month oceania competition, adding bits and pieces to Wikidata, found photo for articles.
  • Marshelec - broke arm so reduced to one finger typing. Been helping improve water and sanitation articles, town articles and working on an article on an energy sector in Turkey and helping another editor with this.
  • Paora - creating article on Lake Wahapo and updated river article. Assisting with improving netballer articles - improved macrons in articles.
  • David Nind - nothing on Wikipedia for the last month, nor Wikisource but is hopeful to get back into it after Christmas.
  • Giantflightlessbirds presented at LIANZA conference on Wikisource on Westcoast project. Released these on loan - 15 people taken it out. Putting stuff up as ebooks is a great way to open access. Few new books needs volunteer help - Westcoast taskforce will be getting an email. Physical meetup/editathon in Greymouth in tech space. Newbies with large photo collections - Mike will walk him through the process. Creating article on flooding of Greymouth. Wrote Wikipedia article about Sue Grey - personal project - large balanced article about her history and what she has been involved with. Need photo of her.
  • DrThneed - has been adding to wikidata the recent academic promotions, cleaning up items, Rutherford discovery fellows, didn't have a page on Wikipedia - major fellowship so she created a page, added these to Wikidata, Did You Know for International Womens Days so we get a broad coverage, one article nominated for deletion. Two new editors are meeting with her to learn wikipedia and creating articles. Still not competent so she helps them. It was one of those articles was Daniel Belton, she defended the article (rightly so as Dan is SO notable!). Meeting up again at the end of this year soon. DrThneed says she'll add this to the annual report.
  • Ambrosia10 - updated on work on various projects, women collectors, improving metadata of Wikicommons illustrations.

5. Review of questions raised during round table

  • Kererū article discussion on the article & potential improvements.
  • DrThneed - flagged on OzStage page in Wikipedia and worried about conflict of interest and wants others to reach out to creator so they can assist.
  • Giantflightlessbirds - Contacted by the National Library press release about everything on hold. Discussion about the donation and encouraged those interested to write to the minister about the pause.

6. Further discussion

  • Discussion on a computer programme that Marshall is struggling with. David attempted to assist and will attempt to find resources for him.
