File question

Hi Fastily. Would you mind taking a look at File:Croatian Football Federation logo.svg and File:Croatia national football team.png because they seem to be duplicates in pretty much every way other than file format? For reference, the svg was uploaded as a replacement for another png (File:Croatia football federation.png) that was discussed at Wikipedia:Non-free content review/Archive 69#File:Croatia football federation.png and removed for all articles except the main federation one. Since these are essentially duplicates, I'm wonder whether one of these can be tagged for speedy deletion for some reason other than WP:F1 or whether it needs to go to FFD. The dark side is telling me that the png could've been uploaded in a different format just to avoid be tagged per F1, but I'm hoping that's not the case and the uploader was just acting in good faith. FWIW, the uploader of the png has been CU blocked so trying to sort this out directly with them is probably not going to work. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:07, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. Thanks for letting me know, I've removed the image from the article as it is indeed a duplicate of File:Croatia football federation.png. Regards, Fastily 09:21, 9 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for looking into this. FWIW, if someone wants to start a new FFD to see whether the consensus regarding the file's non-free use has changed, I'd have no problem with that. -- Marchjuly (talk) 11:20, 9 April 2024 (UTC)

Hello Fastily I was arguing about the reasons to keep File:Compleso del Buon Pastore.jpg, but you deleted it. He considered that copyrighted files could be used in enwiki according to fair use. Althair (talk) 02:35, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Althair. If that's the case, then why are you asserting non-commercial use in the upload form? Use the non-free selector. -Fastily 06:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Edit protection request declined

Hi,

You declined a request I made to increase the page protection for Gadaria people. I would reply there but it was archived just seconds before I hit reply. The problem is, it isn't one user, and it's usually IP addresses that cannot be effectively warned. These pages, like so many pages about various Indian caste groups, constantly attract tendentious or low-quality edits, nearly always by IP users. I have made similar requests (example) for other caste-related pages with similar edit histories and have not been denied before, so I do not understand your response at all. Can you help me understand how to deal with this? Brusquedandelion (talk) 02:56, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Brusquedandelion. Page protection is applied as a last resort, where other measures such as blocking/reverting have failed. Unless the page is under heavy, heavy fire, I see no reason why you can't revert the disruptive edits and drop a warning. I recommend using tools such as Twinkle or Ultraviolet which make this extremely easy. Remember that protection also prevents good faith contributors from helping out, and that last I checked this *is* Wikipedia, the encyclopedia anyone can edit. -Fastily 06:46, 10 April 2024 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Sandbox

My sandbox was marked for speedy deletion and then deleted within minutes. Can you explain how an unpublished article would get flagged and deleted like that while it is still in the process of being created? TruthIsLikeGravity (talk) 01:15, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

@TruthIsLikeGravity Well I'm not Fastily, but they deleted it as it looked like you were using the Wikipedia page to host writings and other information not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. PS @Fastily if you don't want me doing this anymore please let me know, I wanted to help reduce your influx of basic requests so you can focus on administrator stuff. :-) Best to both --- thetechie@enwiki: ~/talk/ $ 01:46, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Mark Twise article

Hello, I recently tried to post an article about the history of the music group that Mark Twise was involved with. It appears you (?) are the one who took it down? No sooner has I posted it was it contested. I thought I followed the protocol both for the parameters as well as how to content the contestation, but then it was summarily removed without any discussion with me. Could you please inform me as the what I am missing in my understanding of the logistics and justifications, as well as the more particular reason why my entry was rejected, and by whom. For perhaps I could restore some faith ( I guesss) if I was told where I have gone wrong. Thanks. Allannewcare (talk) 15:01, 14 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Allannewcare. What is your relationship to Mark Twise? -Fastily 08:17, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
A friend. but I am his Freind's ex-husband. Allannewcare (talk) 14:00, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
I see. As his "Freind's ex-husband", perhaps you can elaborate on why you are writing a promotional piece about him? Oh, and I trust you are aware that is prohibited on Wikipedia? -Fastily 20:54, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
I did not write it in the spirit of promotion. I modeled it after other wiki entries that describe music artists. I am writing in the spirit of history, of a specific type of history, indeed supported by contemporary philosophy, indeed, here encouraged not by Mark but by others who appreciate the history. I tried to not promote but to report; I deliberately did not put links in the page for the purpose of not appearing as promotion. The page he has for his project does little promotion, and I try to describe the reason in the wiki piece. Many people feel it is important.
Please tell me how I might alter it so it does not appear like a promotion. Allannewcare (talk) 21:03, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
Assuming you have no ulterior motives, that you attempted to "not write it in the spirit of promotion" does not automatically make it "not promotion". See Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. I suggest you refrain from writing about this topic. -Fastily 23:35, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
I will take the suggestion, with comment. I have at least 8 personal friends (and many more less close friends) who have pages on Wiki that presently meet this Wiki conflict of interest standard, and closer than I do, who did not face this "concern". By a simple search, I can easily find hundreds that "promote" on here and yet stay posted. These artists and musicians asked me to post this page and indeed helped with feedback about it before I put it on; and not Mark, that's for sure. Yet for some reason I have been singled out, and I believe it is not because of any Wiki "standards" of Wikis "goals". No, it is overt bias. I am not sure why, but its ok. However, it saddens me that what I thought was a good bastion of credible knowledge that I actually donate to appears somehow lessened in stature and quality through this interaction. If you and people like you are the face of Wiki "gatekeeping", I am sourly embarrassed for Wiki and I apologize. I am sure many more who hear of this will be as well disheartened. Good luck in your travels. I hope you get what you need and you can find what you are looking for; I sense it is difficult for you. Allannewcare (talk) 00:46, 17 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Fastily. Could you take a look at this to see whether there might be another way to resolve this besides F5 or FFD? -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:06, 18 April 2024 (UTC)
The uploader has decided to remove the file from the article and let it be deleted per F5; so, I guess there's nothing more that needs to be done here unless that's out of process in some way. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:02, 19 April 2024 (UTC)

WEBHOST

Hi, I see that you deleted User:Hihihihihhihihihihhihii/sandbox under U5 rather than G3 and wonder if you could explain your reasoning? Considering that was a fake biography I would have thought it appropriate to be labelled a hoax. Thanks for your work nonetheless! Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 16:50, 24 April 2024 (UTC)

Hi Pickersgill-Cunliffe. I use a self-created tool to help me list and review obvious CSD candidates. WP:CSD#U5 references WP:NOTWEBHOST, which under bullet 5 points to examples of inappropriate user pages. Bottom line is that these are blatantly unacceptable pages which aren't going to be undeleted anytime soon. Sure, I could edit the exact reasons, but that wouldn't change the end result (pages are still deleted). And given the volume of inappropriate user pages (correctly) tagged for CSD, I find it easier to process them as a set. -Fastily 21:51, 24 April 2024 (UTC)
Makes sense, thanks for explaining. Pickersgill-Cunliffe (talk) 17:02, 25 April 2024 (UTC)

I have read the information about why my article was deleted and still have questions.

Dear Wikipedia Editors,

I understand the need to maintain the integrity and relevance of content on Wikipedia. However, I would like to highlight that there are numerous artist biographies and related information available on the platform that may not seem immediately relevant to the naked eye. As many other artists have done, I aim to offer similar content online to provide transparency and accessibility to those interested in my work.

While I already have my own website where detailed information about my artistic journey and accomplishments can be found, I believe that having a presence on Wikipedia adds a layer of credibility, particularly for the general audience browsing the web. While I acknowledge that Wikipedia may not hold the same weight in academic circles, it serves as a valuable resource for individuals seeking information on various topics, including contemporary artists.

I respectfully request reconsideration of the deletion of my page, as I believe it contributes to the diversity of content available on Wikipedia and enhances the platform's utility as a source of information for the broader public.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely, McMe McManuEspinosa (talk) 21:22, 5 May 2024 (UTC)

@McManuEspinosa: I think you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of Wikipedia. It is not a social media site that you might use to gain an audience. It is an encyclopedia about notable topics. Notability is generally established by coverage in independent sources, not a personal or company website. As one admin wisely said, if the only person who cares enough to write about you is you, then you probably aren't notable. If your accomplishments are legitimately notable, someone else will write about them. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:13, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for sharing. Kindly suggest me how to write about our company. As right now we have website only. If articles about us are published other than our webiste. Then it might help. PuneetBDM435 (talk) 19:16, 6 May 2024 (UTC)
@PuneetBDM435: If all there is about your company is the company's own website, then it does not meet Wikipedia's notability criteria and does not qualify to have an article. TornadoLGS (talk) 19:20, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

I am an new and I was creating the page for my company. But to my surprise, my work is deleted. May I know the reason. I am just adding the details of my Company and what they do. PuneetBDM435 (talk) 19:07, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

@PuneetBDM435:My reply is that you are very confused, but then again, to the uninitiated, Wikipedia can be quite confusing. While Wikipedia is intended to be a source of information, it doesn't exist for the purpose of promoting commerce. Additionally, it doesn't exist for the purpose of collecting details about everything somebody might want to find out about or have a question about. This is a little bit vaguer issue, which is where "notability" comes in. Effectively, it's a filter to avoid a situation where everybody or every business or everybody in the academic world who was an author on a paper or everybody who's ever been on Jeopardy gets the right to have an article on Wikipedia, and (IMO) it has a lot to do with verifiability. If somebody or some business isn't getting any kind of coverage by a reliable source, then there's no way to verify any claims.
So I would say that that's really the rub, and even though there may be some factual claims that could be established, this just isn't enough. Note that not everybody will necessarily agree with me, but this "notability" rule is something that's been established, and if somebody attempts to create an article on something for which there is not sufficient coverage from enough reliable sources, then the article will not be allowed. I will note that this is my personal view, I don't claim this precisely represents Wikipedia policy, it's just my understanding and explanation for how and why Wikipedia works the way it does. I don’t know of a way of reading what was there before it was deleted. I proposed the article for deletion because it failed to reference any secondary sources and it failed the standard criteria for notability for politicians. Someone can create a new article if they wish, but they’ll need to demonstrate why an article is warranted. Bondegezou (talk) 05:58, 14 May 2024 (UTC)

Request for reconsideration of decision on deleted page User:Mcrossphd/sandbox

Reference: User:Mcrossphd/sandbox

Dear @Fastily,

I understand your concern about promoting a business, but I'd like to clarify that the page about Ross-Clayton Funeral Home is focused on its historical significance as the oldest funeral home in Montgomery, Alabama, founded in 1918. The page aims to document its history, legacy, and impact on the community, rather than promoting the business itself. Also, there are many similar pages live on Wikipedia with search query "Funeral Home".

To address your concerns, I will make the following changes:

- Emphasized the historical aspects and significance of the funeral home

- Removed any promotional language or content

- Added reliable sources to support the funeral home's notability and historical importance

I believe this page meets Wikipedia's guidelines for notability and verifiability. Please reconsider your decision and allow the page to remain, as it provides valuable information on the history of Montgomery, Alabama.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Hey, I hope you are well. I want to get clarification on whether I am right or wrong. Hi Grabup. I seldom get involved with notability concerns, so I'm probably not the best person to discuss hypothetical situations with. If you have a concrete example you can share, then I might be able to help. -Fastily 02:15, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
The book name is “The Book of India Ghosts” here are two reviews: The Hindu and The HinduBusinessline. Can these two reviews which are independent reliable, make the author of the book notable? GrabUp - Talk 03:27, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
The Hindu (WP:THEHINDU) is considered a reliable source, can't speak to the latter though. You might wish to inquire about this at RSN -Fastily 04:46, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for your reply. For your confirmation, the second one is also considered reliable. Though it is not mentioned in WP:Perennial sources, it is considered reliable for film articles at WP:ICTFSOURCES, which indicates its reliability and acceptance. GrabUp - Talk 04:58, 28 May 2024 (UTC)

Subject: Contesting Speedy Deletion of User Page

Hello Fastily,

I find it extremely perplexing and disheartening that my user page, User Secular Naturalism, has been tagged for speedy deletion under the claim that it is promotional. The page was created in compliance with Wikipedia's guidelines, focusing on personal information, interests relevant to Wikipedia's mission, and my contributions to the platform. Here is the content of the page in question:

[SEO spam removed]

The page includes typical user page content: a brief biography, a summary of my philosophical interests, a list of my contributions, and a sandbox link. It does not serve as an advertisement but rather as a personal introduction and an organizational tool for my activities on Wikipedia.

I strongly urge a reconsideration of the deletion tag, as the content aligns with Wikipedia's guidelines for user pages. If there are specific issues, I am more than willing to make necessary adjustments. However, tagging this page for deletion without a proper review seems unwarranted and undermines the efforts of active contributors.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Deleted article

Dear Fastily,

I hope you're well. I'm writing because my article was deleted due to U5. I understand this means issues of notability. However, I would like to try to post the article again - I only included some links to articles, as I was not aware of the requirements. However, now that I know, could I please post it again and include more links and references? I'm wondering if you could restore my page as a draft, so I do not need to start again. This would help greatly. My username is lisacourtnadge.

Also, I created the page in my sandbox. Was this the correct place, or is there another place to create pages that still require editing?

Hi Lisacourtnadge. You may not use Wikipedia to promote your business/services or the business/services of a client. Please be advised that repeated violations of this rule will result in loss of editing privileges. Thanks, Fastily 20:44, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi Fastily,
I am not creating the page to promote anything. I want to create it to write about an individual who I have done work for in the past, who I think deserves a wiki page. She is a notable person, there are many hyperlinks I did not include in the first draft because I did not know so many hyperlinks are required. I would like to edit my deleted draft and include the many other links, and then hopefully it will get approved once the reviewers see the many external sources cited. Please inform me how I can edit my deleted article - I do not wish to start from scratch.
Thank you,
Lisa Lisacourtnadge (talk) 11:41, 16 June 2024 (UTC)
Hi @Fastily, is this possible? To get my draft back so I may add more references to make it notable? Lisacourtnadge (talk) 18:30, 18 June 2024 (UTC)
No. You say you're not promoting anything, yet this article is for an "individual who I have done work for in the past". I know exactly what you're trying to do here, please quit badgering me about it. -Fastily 23:35, 18 June 2024 (UTC)

Rollback

Hello, Fastily! I just want to ask if my contributions (i.e., reverting and warning users) satisfy the criteria for granting rollback rights. I would like to request on WP:PERM/R, but I don't know if my contributions already meet the requirements. Could you offer some guidance on whether I should apply for rollback rights now or gain more experience before making the request? Thank you so much. doclys (❀) 14:09, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) From a brief look at your contribs, it seems like you satisfy the basic criteria laid out at WP:PERM/R. (please note that while i do have rollback, im not someone the community trusts to grant it (aka an administraitor), so take what i say with a grain of salt) GrayStorm(Complaints Dept.|My Contribs.) 21:15, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

AFCing an article?

Is there a way (for a new article that has not used AFC) to mark said article for required AFC review before re-admittance to main? It's been sent to mainspace twice now prematurely and while they've made attempts at addressing the comments, the quality is lacking. I don't want to have a draftify war. Page in question is Hari Ballabh Narayan Singh if you or a talk page stalker could weigh in. Zinnober9 (talk) 13:05, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

@Zinnober9: If the author is challenging your draftification and the article does not meet any Speedy Deletion criteria, but you think the article is not ready for the mainspace, you can start an AfD. Participants can vote to Delete, Draftify, Redirect, or Keep. After that, the creator has to obey that decision. I hope this answers your query. GrabUp - Talk 13:32, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
Nominated the article for AfD as I think it does not meet any notability criteria. GrabUp - Talk 16:24, 30 June 2024 (UTC)
I quite hadn't gotten to that point of pulling the AFD discussion trigger earlier, but I am now and agree with your assessment. I've added my vote and comments. Thanks. Zinnober9 (talk) 18:42, 30 June 2024 (UTC)

Toronto Blue Jays logos

Hi there. Could you please take another look at your closure at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2024 June 6? Hi Eureka Lott. Thanks for letting me know. @JohnCWiesenthal: could you please comment on this? Thanks, Fastily 21:07, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
Sorry, I did not realize that I had to nominate only one of the logos for discussion, not both. JohnCWiesenthal (talk) 23:05, 2 July 2024 (UTC)
(talk page watcher) In such instances, nominating both make sense but it is helpful to explicitly state that only one logo should be deleted and also recommend which should be kept and which should be deleted. -- Whpq (talk) 23:22, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Kiwiwomble sandbox achieved/deleted?

Hi, I tried to start a new wiki page for my rugby club a while back, got a few things wrong and so was never published, i have time now to try again and fix it, do it right. My sandbox seems to have been deleted or achieved , i just wanted to double check if that was recoverable before i start again? cheers Kiwiwomble (talk) 23:42, 2 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi Kiwiwomble. This was explained to you on your talk page. Paid or not, you still appear to be a representative from the club, and the deleted text confirms this. Promotional/Publicity pieces are not permitted on Wikipedia. Please be advised that repeated violations of this rule will result in loss of editing privileges. Thanks, Fastily 00:36, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
thats seems a little aggressive, apologies thought as i had missed that was the most resent issue, originally it was due to not producing original text re the history but just referencing existing sources, i did not intent it to be a promotion of the club but just record its history, am i forever prohibited from doing it or if i leave the club will i be free too create a page Kiwiwomble (talk) 04:28, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
(talk page watcher)(Non-administrator comment)@Kiwiwomble: Fastily's tone might seem harsh to you but whether you or anyone else can create an article about this particular team is going to enitrely depend upon whether the team meets Wikipedia:Notability; if it's not able to meet that guideline, then there's pretty much no chance of an article about the team ever being created. I mean someone could "create" such an article so to speak, but it would very likely and perhaps very quickly end up being WP:DELETED. You could try creating a WP:DRAFT and then submitting it to Wikipedia:Articles for creation for review, but you've already done that once but the draft was declined and then subsequently deleted another administrator per speedy deletion criterion G11. For reference, drafts typically have to be pretty bad and beyond hope to end deleted for that reason. So, if your user sandbox had bascially the same issues as the draft, then it's not surprising it also ended up deleted.
Anyway, ideally the best person to try and create an article about the team would be someone who's familiar with ow Wikipedia works, understands how to create proper Wikipedia articles about rugby teams, but who also has no connection to the team. Perhaps you should try asking about this at Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union because that's where you're going to find Wikipedians interested in rugby who might be able to assess the team's Wikipedia notability. If you find that nobody feels the team is Wikipedia notable, then you're best bet might be to look at WP:ALTERNATIVE to see whether some other site might work best for you. Of course, your interest in Wikipedia goes beyond simply creating an article for this particular team, then becoming a member a WikProject might help you figure out ways you can to help improve Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:23, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
thanks, thats much more useful advice than what i have received previously, i will try and reach out to the Rugby Project for advice, i was trying to learn how to contribute to wiki but it seems its a bit if IYKYK and if you dont then too bad, for the record i based my first attempt on the code for other clubs in the same competition so things like it must have been pretty bad or dont meet the notability criteria do seem VERY subjective. Kiwiwomble (talk) 22:56, 3 July 2024 (UTC)
Wikipedia has over six million articles. Many articles never received a proper vetting and probably should've never been created in the first place. So, just because something exists doesn't mean it should exist or that something similar to it should exist. There is no professional staff when it comes to editing or monitoring Wikipedia, which means its basically an honor system that hopes everyone follows relevant Wikipedia policies and guidelines. Lots of people sincerely try to do so, but many don't either because they don't want to or because they don't know any better. When that happens, the hope is the other more experienced editors will notice (ideally sooner rather than later) and set things straight.
Since basically pretty much any edit can go live as soon as "Publish changes" is clicked, a lot of problem articles have been created over the years and have simply flown under the radar until they're noticed for some reason. So, in general, trying to argue that a Wikipedia article about "your" rugby team should exist simply because articles about other similar rugby teams exist is generally not going to get you very far. You're much better off establishing what makes your rugby team Wikipedia notable because that's what's going to be assessed if an article you create ends up being nominated or tagged for deletion. In other words, whether those other rugby teams are Wikipedia notable or whether they were created by someone associated with the team are perhaps concerns relevant to discussing whether those articles should be deleted, but such things aren't really relevant to whether an Wikipedia article about your team should be created.
Finally, having a connection to the subject doesn't mean you cannot create or edit content about the subject on Wikipedia. As long as you comply with relevant policies and guidelines, you can do both. However, such editing tends to be viewed suspiciously and highly discouraged because those involved can tend to be more WP:NOTHERE than WP:HERE, which can lead to some serious problems. People who are connected to a particular subject in perhaps more than a casual way might subconciously alawys want to skew content about the subject a certain way, and find it hard to step outside themselves and view things neutrally from a WP:HERE perspective. You can try to create another draft about the team if you think you can do a better job than what you did before, but I strongly suggest you follow the guidance in WP:COI and submit the draft to Wikipedia Articles for Creation for review if you do. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:40, 4 July 2024 (UTC)
I understand the idea of notability (now at least) and or the lack of, i dont think it was completely out of line to think if several other clubs have them that another in the same completion might have one too. It really just feels too hard to get involved, kind of felt starting with something i knew a little about (before learning how suspiciously that is viewed) would be a good starting point, lesson learnt. Re the idea of having new articles reviewed, thats what i thought my sandbox was, thought it was where i could work on new things, another lesson learnt Kiwiwomble (talk) 04:45, 4 July 2024 (UTC)

He's created this three times now. Clearly a block is warranted. Un assiolo (talk) 19:27, 5 July 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)(Non-administrator comment)@Un assiolo: This person appears to be a new user who might be trying to follow the advice given to them here by Deb in good faith. Bolierplate CSD notifications can often be hard for new users, particularly non-native English speakers, to understand. Maybe blanking the page and adding a more personalized "final warning" message to their user talk with links to WP:UPYES and WP:NOTWEBHOST could work better here than a block? If they recreate the page after that, then blocking seems more appropriate. Just a suggestion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:57, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: I'm sorry, but this person is clearly WP:NOTHERE. The comment by User:Deb is unfortunate as it seemingly left open the possibility of a promotional userpage. It should have been made more explicit that Wikipedia is not for promotion and is not a social network and that this kind of content is not welcome anywhere on the site, under any circumstances. But if it wasn't clear from the three separate promotional pages this person had created (draft+sandbox+userpage), it's clear now that they have no intention of actually contributing. --Un assiolo (talk) 22:37, 5 July 2024 (UTC)
@Un assiolo: You're quite right about them deserving a block and I've done so. I use that particular message in cases where I think the person might be innocently trying to create a user page and not understand our rules. It almost always has the desired effect - they realise they are in the wrong place and they just go away. In this case it hasn't worked. Deb (talk) 08:49, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher)(Non-administrator comment) Hi Shri Prannath Jyanpeeth. I'm not Fastily, but I will try and explain why your page was deleted.
First of all, you were notified that there was a problem with the page in this post added to your user talk page; so, this is a warning in a Wikipedia sense. In addition, if you click on User:Shri Prannath Jyanpeeth, you'll see that the reason why the page was deleted has to do with Wikipedia speedy deletion criterion U5 and Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not a blog, web hosting service, social networking service, or memorial site. All Wikipedia user pages are required to be in accordance with Wikipedia:User pages and my guess is that your user page was considered to be enough of a violation of Wikipedia:User pages#What may I not have in my user pages? that it satisfied the criteria for speedy deletion.
Your user page was, actually deleted twice in two days by two different Wikipedia administrators: once by an administrator named Oshwah and once by Fastily. I'm not an administrator so I cannot see what was deleted, but it seems a bit unlikely that two different Wikipedia administrators would've deleted the page if there weren't some serious problems that simply couldn't be fixed.
So, I suggest you take a close look at Wikipedia:User pages#What may I have in my user pages? before trying to re-create the page again. It's OK if you weren't aware of any of this and just made a mistake, but repeating the same mistake over and over again almost never ends well and could lead to administrator stepping in to stop you from continuing to recreate an improper user page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:45, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
thank you for reply! could you please help me to submit my draft article for review. I am very new on Wikipedia. Please help me. Shri Prannath Jyanpeeth (talk) 05:57, 11 July 2024 (UTC)
If you're asking about Draft:Nijanand Sampraday (Nijanand Darshan) 'निजानन्द सम्प्रदाय (निजानन्द दर्शन)' then the first problem is that this is English Wikipedia but your draft is not written in English. Are you trying to submit a draft for Hindi Wikipedia perhaps? If that's the case, you will need to do so on Hindi Wikipedia. Each of the different Wikipedias is a separate project with its own policies and guidelines; so, if you need help with editing or creating content on Hindi Wikipedia, you will need to ask for assistance at Hindi Wikipedia. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:13, 11 July 2024 (UTC)

Mistake on User:Sergentkitty

I come in peace. You erased my user page but I was not promoting anything. As I explained here (but it seems no one read it :/):

"This page is not unambiguously promotional, because... I think my page was spotted by bots as an ad because it contains a link to a Youtube video, it says "ad", and I threaten to sue. The video is Wikipedia Foundation's own 'Wikipedia | It's a great feeling' video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=St1JN6m0FTI). The joke is that it sounds like an ad, so I am trying out the service based on the promises of that ad. But I obviously do not plan to sue if I don't like Wikipedia, I don't think anyone could have thought I was serious here. Sorry for triggering the alarm with my stupid joke, my first edit was more explosive than I thought it would be..."

So it had nothing to do with "promoting/advertising a business/service, blogging, and/or content unrelated to Wikipedia".

However, I will change my presentation, the joke was just half-funny to start with, but now it's just flat dead. Sergentkitty (talk) 02:01, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

Question

Did this page which was moved to a draft and later deleted: Thirupattur district cover the same topic as this article: Tirupathur district? VirusDontKill (talk) 05:47, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

Hi VirusDontKill. Yes, and it consisted of only the following line of text "Tirupattur is a newly formed district in Tamil Nadu which was carved out of Vellore on 15 August, 2019" -Fastily 07:15, 26 July 2024 (UTC)
Thanks. I saw that spelling elsewhere, so I will redirect it. VirusDontKill (talk) 07:18, 26 July 2024 (UTC)

I have a question about the deletion of this redirect. Who requested the deletion? Was it the same person as had created the redirect? I am wondering whether they misunderstood my note in Draft:Benjamin Howard (filmmaker), and thought that requesting its deletion would get the draft approved. Question regarding page history after a move

Thank you for deleting the draft I was working on in my user space. I had not realised as it was a number of years ago, but I had originally used that same page to draft a different article, so the history which now appears at [1] includes 16 entries which are unrelated to the actual article...should those entries be deleted? would this satisfy an RD6 of WP:REVDEL? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 08:36, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Goldsztajn. Revdel isn't the right tool for this job. The history of your sandbox includes content from unrelated topics, so I've reverted your move of User:Goldsztajn/sandbox/generic-bio2 to Leo Hannett. As you are the sole author of the page, it's fine if you copy & paste the contents of your sandbox into Leo Hannett. -Fastily 09:04, 2 August 2024 (UTC)

It has a MFD (which I have also re-opened), so I have no doubt it will be deleted again soon enough by that process. DMacks (talk) 01:55, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi DMacks. Sounds good, thanks for letting me know. Best, Fastily 06:43, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Emergent Coding page deleted

Hi @Fastily, I am creating a page for a software development method that I have recently read about as I can find articles on it but no wikipedia article. It is being designed in my home country and I find it interesting, I have just started to create the article but can see one has previously been created and you have deleted it. The method is called Emergent Coding. I am reaching out to you to ask why it was deleted and if I am allowed to create a new page for it.

Thank you for your time Artem P75 (talk) 21:13, 6 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Artem P75. Emergent Coding was a Redirect which contained no content. The actual page resides at Draft:Emergent Coding -Fastily 01:10, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Drew Anthony biogshot (2).jpg

Hi Fastily. I tagged File:Drew Anthony biogshot (2).jpg with {{db-f9}} because I wasn't sure what else to do after reverting the file back to it original version. The file was overwritten yesterday by an image that was completely different from what was originally uploaded, and I wasn't sure if {{Orfurrev}} could be used in such a case. Was the originally uploaded file also a copyvio? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:31, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. Ah sorry, I completely missed that. Usually in situations like this we'll do a history split. I'll take care of this now. Regards, Fastily 05:43, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking another look at this. I posted something about this on the "new" uploader's user talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:18, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Bron Breakker 2024 (cropped).jpg

I found another overwritten file at File:Bron Breakker 2024 (cropped).jpg. This time, though, the uploader is the same and probably just thought it would be OK to upload these. The file has already been tagged with {{Nsdnld}}, but I don't think it's worth splitting these since a Google image search shows both of these being used other places online. Do you think this should be tagged with {{db-f9}}? -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:40, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. Yes, I think {{Db-f9}} would be appropriate here. Regards, Fastily 09:04, 7 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Investment Corporation of Dubai logo.png

File:Investment Corporation of Dubai logo.png is another recently overwritten file. The "new" version was uploaded as non-free but is almost certainly PD in the US; so, I relicensed the file to "PD-ineligible-USonly". The overwritten version, on the other hand, probably needed to be treated as non-free and now needs to be deleted per F5. Is there an English Wikipedia equivalent to c:Template:Split that can be used in cases like this? -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:40, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. Not as far as I'm aware. I've split the file history into File:Investment Corporation of Dubai logo.png (free version) & File:Investment Corporation of Dubai logo 1.png (non-free version). Regards, Fastily 06:16, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for doing that. -- Marchjuly (talk) 06:30, 9 August 2024 (UTC)

File:2027 CWC Fanmade Logo.png

Hi again Fastily. File:2027 CWC Fanmade Logo.png is another file that seems to be in need of a split. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:35, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

That's a fan-made logo and has no business being used in any article on Wikipedia. I've nominated it for deletion. -- Whpq (talk) 12:07, 10 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks Whpq for looking into this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:23, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Fastily. Would you mind taking a look at File:Menudo Los Fantasmas Backcover.png and File:Menudo Laura Back Cover.png? I prodded them for deletion, but each file's page was blanked shortly therefter. One was blanked by its uploader here and then removed from the article where it was being used here; so, I'm think that's a G7 deletion request. The other file's page was blanked here and the file was then removed here. However, two different accounts were used, so I'm not sure this meets G7 (even though I think it could be a case of WP:QUACK and this particular user might've forgot which account they were using). -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:17, 8 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I see Liz has already taken care of these. Yeah it seems like there is some sockpuppetry (or meatpuppetry) going on here, if they are behaving abusively, it may be worthwhile to file an SPI. Regards, Fastily 20:56, 8 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look. I did start an SPI yesterday; so, perhaps that will clear things up? -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:41, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
Apparently a CU found the two accounts mentioned above and two others are connected. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:24, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Dear Mr. @Fastily, please delete User:Jolanta Świątkiewicz and User:Violent Combustion because CSD G8. Thanks. 36.76.7.98 (talk) 08:08, 10 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi, certainly,  Done -Fastily 04:06, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Lessig in 6th January 2024.jpg

Hi Fastily,

Would you mind taking a look at File:Lessig in 6th January 2024.jpg? It looks like the uploader tried to license it as many ways as possible in the hope that one might be correct. The file is currently not being used and I tagged it for speedy deletion per F11, but my guess is that it's a likely copyvio if it's a screenshot taken from a CNN interview. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:22, 11 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I've speedied it as a copyvio. The uploader cited CNN as the source, so it's extremely unlikely that the image is freely licensed. Regards, Fastily 04:06, 12 August 2024 (UTC)

Thanks

Sorry, I saw you deleted what i put on my profile. I was trying to create an article but Im not entirely sure what im doing yet. Strifezilla (talk) 23:30, 13 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Strifezilla. This was explained to you on your talk page. -Fastily 09:21, 14 August 2024 (UTC)

Can you check this please?

Special:Diff/1240600996/prev, they have removed the administrator box but left the rollback box. Also, looking at their edits, they don't appear to be a new user? I'm not sure there is much we can do about that? Knitsey (talk) 09:28, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Knitsey. I have warned the editor and removed the userbox from their userpage. Barring CU evidence, no, unless they start behaving disruptively. Regards, Fastily 09:37, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look. Knitsey (talk) 09:38, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

U5: Misuse of Wikipedia as a web host

Dear Fastily,

I would like to inquire as to why my homepage was deleted. Although I did put external links to my profile, that is to merely establish credibility to my edits. May I therefore ask what are the limits to this? I ask this because I see other homepages which do more than what I did - they listed universities where they finished their degrees, etc. What I merely did was insert my professional autobiography, and cited my external pages.

I hope this can be clarified.

Thank you. JMPLuga (talk) 16:41, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher). @JMPLuga:. Which ones? I'll have a look. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:08, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
FWIW, Wikipedia user pages are not home pages. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 18:09, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Universal Classic Monsters logo.jpg

Hi Fastily. File:Universal Classic Monsters logo.jpg is another overwritten file in which the latest updated version seems to be "PD-logo", but the older version is probably borderline "Non-free logo". -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:22, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. Thanks for letting me know. I've split the file into File:Universal Classic Monsters logo 1.jpg & File:Universal Classic Monsters logo.jpg. Regards, Fastily 09:21, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for doing that. -- Marchjuly (talk) 19:31, 16 August 2024 (UTC)

File:Thomas Hui To.png

Hi Fastily. I'm not sure what the uploader of File:Thomas Hui To.png is trying to do, but they've reuploaded the file you deleted per F9 to Commons as File:Thomas Hui.png and then added the Commons file to the empty file page. They also seem to have declared a connection to Draft:Thomas Hui To on their user page so maybe they've think that makes it OK to upload the image. -- 11:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC) Marchjuly (talk) 11:06, 18 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. It definitely doesn't make it ok. Both the enwp file and commons file have since been deleted. I don't think anything needs to be done about the draft at the moment; it's not great, but it's not evil to the point where it can't be reaped in 6 months via G13. -Fastily 03:50, 19 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:40, 19 August 2024 (UTC)

Deletion of The Morning Context

Hey Fastily,

I'm a new wiki editor and created a page for The Morning Context. Another editor moved it to drafts for better sourcing and neutral language, but it was deleted within minutes before I could try to fix anything on it. What can I do to fix this? Thanks! SageRoot29 (talk) 11:47, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

(talk page watcher). @SageRoot29: It is at Draft:The Morning Context. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 14:17, 20 August 2024 (UTC)
Thanks @Deepfriedokra! I'll look into why it was pushed to drafts by trying to get clarity from the editor. SageRoot29 (talk) 14:29, 20 August 2024 (UTC)

Deletion of the Konectin Content

Hey Fastily,

I'm a new editor and one of my practice page was deleted, I saw a blog about a startup in Africa and rewrote it on wiki citing the source, I wanted to know what was actually wrong, I quite understand the reason tagged by you, but what could have been done better?

Below is the page .....

<redacted copyvio>

(talk page watcher) @Damilareintuitive: Hmm. This reads more like promotion that an undeletion request. 😥. In reviewing the deleted sandbox, I see that it was promotional in tone and met the criteria for speedy deletion noted by fastly. Thanks. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 19:31, 21 August 2024 (UTC)
thanks Damilareintuitive (talk) 12:04, 22 August 2024 (UTC)

Need some kind human judgement

I am nice and kind. And now I have impact. But when I didn't, and I was a child trying to understand something that was taught in school, Wikipedia was here. Anyway so now i finally manually requested an account cuz i can help wikipedia too. and i shouldn't have to reveal anything about my academic and personal background to make corrective edits. and clearly, none of us ever do, only knowledge increases knowledge. So now at this point even with less than one year here and only 30ish unique corrective edits, i'm proud of any positive impact on someone's learning experience i may have had --- which means i'm actually more proud of having been able to reduce the negative impact.

But i was confused about my own conduct today when an individual with a wikipedia account and editing access, proclaiming themselves as a vandalism fixer, while fully being a wikihounder, AND thought they had enough power just by making vague jargon refs to DISCOURAGE GOOD PRACTICES. i recognise the specific problems and corrective steps must be taken. and that's the end of my confusion right here. I have enough self assuredness now, in addition to competence, that i can use it to support my lifelong personal judgement and loyalties, and safely leave this concern for the wikipedia admins to handle in any way whatsoever.

This is not really an immediate threat to me, but a threat nevertheless. So if an admin systematically went thru my contribs and logs and finally my talk page which had a rude reawakening today after the first sweeeet welcome message. and obvs then this wikipedian's actions and the way interacted on my talk page and also if an admin could tell me they felt the same feeling of cringe more than anything when the user linked to shortcuts/templates while actively violating the same template, that would be affirming. Keep up with the horrible status quo? i say NO. AradhanaChatterjee (talk) 17:28, 23 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi AradhanaChatterjee. I'm not sure what you're asking for. If you want to rant, go right ahead. If this is a content dispute, we have Wikipedia:Dispute resolution. If this is a user conduct issue, you may take your concerns to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents. -Fastily 00:56, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of User:Neodiprion demoides

Hi Fastily,

My user page has been speedily deleted.

The nomination reads, "A tag has been placed on User:Neodiprion demoides requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section U5 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to consist of writings, information, discussions, or activities not closely related to Wikipedia's goals. Please note that Wikipedia is not a free web hosting service. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time."

Previous to the deletion, the content of my user page was the taxonomy of the species which makes my username. In my opinion, this falls well within WP:UPGOOD as "A small and proportionate amount of suitable unrelated material".

It is plausible that the user who initiated the deletion ignored WP:U5 ("[...] except for plausible drafts and pages adhering to Wikipedia:User pages § What may I have in my user pages?" and "Read [...] Wikipedia:User pages § Deletion of user pages") and WP:DELETEOTHER ("Except for blatant or serious matters, it is preferable to try contacting the user before deletion")

Per the above, I believe that the deletion is in error, even if not vandalism. Neodiprion demoides (talk) 18:15, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

The history of edits by the nominating user suggests an abundance of similar nominations. The text which this user is adding to the talk page is misleading at least in two instances:
  • "Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, such as User:$username, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's content policies and may not be retained. In short, the topic of an article must be notable" - as best as I understand, this is not a relevant criterion for user pages.
  • "or if you have already done so, you can place a request here" - WP:RFUD is not applicable for speedy deletions; after contacting the deleting editor, the next step is deletion review.
Neodiprion demoides (talk) 18:33, 25 August 2024 (UTC)

Hi you sited my account for speedy deletion

Hello Fastily, This user has a username change request at CHU/S, I noticed the userpage CSD today and the re-creation of the user page earlier, my query is do you have any issues with actioning the rename request ? - FlightTime (open channel) 00:45, 2 September 2024 (UTC)

File:Film Still - This is Not a Show - REM by Vincent Moon.png

Hi Fastily. You just deleted File:Territoires Teaser Still - Vincent Moon & Priscilla Telmon.png per F9 so I'm wondering if you could also take a look at File:Film Still - This is Not a Show - REM by Vincent Moon.png, File:Film still - LA FAUTE DES FLEURS.png, File:Hibridos Still.png, File:La Symphonie de Ségriès - Film Still Image.png, File:DÉdales - live cinema performance.png and File:Vincent Moon - Live Cinéma - Cinéma Temple 2024.png. They were also uploaded by the same uploader and also seem to copyright protected screenshots. -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:05, 3 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I've tagged most of these as missing permission. File:La Symphonie de Ségriès - Film Still Image.png & File:Hibridos Still.png may be ok as the source YouTube videos are CC licensed. Regards, Fastily 08:28, 3 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at these. Would you mind double checking File:Hibridos Still.png? It does have a YouTube CC license, but it also states the file has a non-commercial CC license in the video's YouTube description. I'm not sure which one should be considered the "real" license in such a case. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:35, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
Ah yes that's a fair point. I'm thinking it's probably best to err on the side of caution, so I've speedied the file. Regards, Fastily 17:56, 5 September 2024 (UTC)

File questions

Hi Fastily. Would you mind taking a look at File:James Tague 2013.jpg and see whether it meets {{db-f7}}? The EXIF data attributes the photo to Kael Alford of the The Wall Street Journal, but I'm not sure whether that's an issue per item 7 of WP:NFC#UUI.

Would you also mind taking a look User talk:Cmanon#File:C.Manon 24.jpg. I don't think the local file is regardless of whether the Commons file is OK and I doubt the uploader is ever going to respond to my post. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:49, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I've speedied File:James Tague 2013.jpg as a press photo. I also speedied File:C.Manon 24.jpg as a duplicate of File:C.MANON 24.jpg. Hope that helps. Regards, Fastily 05:49, 18 September 2024 (UTC)

You deleted a long-existing map as redundant. Please undelete.

You deleted Shebaa Farms map as "redundant." But then you deleted the original map (which had been there many years as well.) Please undelete one of the two maps. Redundancy is no reason to delete TWO identical maps.

See https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:1966_Official_Lebanese_Map_of_Shebaa_Farms_and_Syrian_border.png&action=edit&redlink=1

It doesn't matter which map file you leave undeleted, but please make sure one of them is. As you know, there is no way to get this map under Creative Commons from a government that has not existed for more than 60 years.GreekParadise (talk) GreekParadise (talk) 17:30, 27 September 2024 (UTC)

Thank you for the response at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback, now I don't really care that much if I don't get rollback rights. But I would kindly asked to not be too civil towards me, it can upset me. I have ASD and can get sensitive or upset easily. So unfortunately I had to remove your response. This wasn't because I was trying to make a personal attack, it was because I didn't like that response (not because you denied it, it was because the way you were talking to me. I would appreciate you re-adding it back, but please make it more polite. On the other hand, I have been using Twinkle to revert vandalism but doesn't work on notifying users on their talk page on advanced mobile edit, so please check the tags properly when checking the revisions or the user contributions. I do agree that I failed to notify users when reverting their edits but that time I thought I did but forgot to. I would appreciate you to re-add the response, but this time please make the response more polite and you can be a little bit civil, but not too much. Thank you. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 11:11, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @PEPSI697: Hey, brother. Sorry to hear you have ASD, but the response Fastily gave you was perfectly normal and very polite. There was nothing wrong with it; they simply asked why you were failing to notify users when reverting someone’s edit. You should just explain the situation or say you forgot, and promise to notify users next time. That’s all, and the rest is in their hands. You can see this is the response Fastily gives to users who fails to notify others when reverting edits, and that’s not appropriate. I hope this clears things up, bro. Don’t take Fastily’s response as bad faith; I know him as one of the best admins here. I recommend that you self-revert your edit on the Rollback permission page and respond to Fastily’s question. That will help make the process smoother. Thanks, and happy editing! GrabUp - Talk 11:29, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Thanks very much! @Marchjuly has reverted the message I removed and restored it. I have repsonded to Fastily's answer. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 13:02, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) @PEPSI697: While you're given a little leeway when it comes to removing posts made by othes from your user talk page per WP:BLANKING, you shouldn't be removing such posts from other talk pages or community pages per WP:TPO unless there's a really strong Wikipedia policy based reason for doing so. If you don't like what Fastily posted you can either discuss it with him and seek clarification, or you can seek the assistance of an administrator. I've re-added Fastily's comment, and I don't recommend you remove it again. If you truly feel otherwise, I suggest you seek administrator assistance instead of removing it yourself. -- Marchjuly (talk) 12:12, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the response. Where specifically can I get administrative assistance? PEPSI697 (💬📝) 13:04, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

October 2024

@Fastily: I don't want to have to make another topic again. But you are upsetting me with your comments at Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback and making me feel like I've been attacked or been aggressive towards me. I don't feel safe on Wikipedia at the moment. I feel like I've been treated like a bad faith editor. Please don't block me, I just got upset. I'm not trying to make personal attacks towards you, I just wanted to let you know. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 11:09, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

What exactly are you hoping to achieve by coming here and continuing to complain? I'm literally not your therapist. Wikipedia is a collaborative project, you're not the only one who edits here. So yeah, you should expect to receive constructive criticism from time to time. If that's too much for you to handle, then it's high time for you to find a hobby that that doesn't involve Wikipedia. I know plenty of editors (admins included) who are on the spectrum but don't use their disability as an excuse to justify incompetence and/or bad behavior. Knock it off. -Fastily 22:48, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
I'm not complaining about anything, all I'm doing is just letting you know. I'm trying my best like you. I was not hoping to achieve anything. I know you're not my therapist. Can you please stop treating me like a bad faith contributor. I'm here for good faith. Can you please be civil towards me. I'm not upset because of the constructive criticism, I expected that is what would be the response. I'm not trying to make any personal attacks here or not complain about anything. So please don't block me. Thanks. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 23:13, 1 October 2024 (UTC)

Question about the sandbox

Good evening @Fastily, do we have to make a deletion request to reset the sandbox and its history to create another topic that has nothing to do with it? Or is there a manipulation to be done? SparklingBlueMoon (talk) 22:24, 4 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi SparklingBlueMoon. I'm assuming you're referring to User:SparklingBlueMoon/sandbox. No, requesting deletion is optional, you can blank the sandbox if you so choose. -Fastily 00:19, 5 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi, Musiccomposersg contacted me about a deleted article draft. The message they received indicates it was deleted for WP:G11. The page log mentions WP:U5. File:K. Uppi Saheb.jpg

Hi Fastily. Can you take a look at File:K. Uppi Saheb.jpg? It looks like it's been overwritten and either needs to be split or needs an updating of the rationale/license. FWIW, I don't think the user who uploaded the most recent version is its copyright holder, but not sure. It also looks like it might be an AI-generated image. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:58, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I've split the history and moved the newly uploaded file to File:K. Uppi Saheb 1.jpg. Regards, Fastily 10:37, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for taking a look at this. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:12, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
File:Bafaki Tangal.jpg appears to be another case of this, and it also seems to be the same user as above. I've reverted this one back to the non-free, but the overwritten versions probably need to be split. This user seems to be updating files with their versions and adding a free license, but providing no other information and leaving the non-free rationales as is. This isn't only creating overwritten files, but it's also creating license conflicts. Their account isn't new per se, but for some reason they decided to start uploading images yesterday; so, it could be just a newbie mistake. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:28, 8 October 2024 (UTC)
Hi Marchjuly. Sorry, forgot to reply here. I split the file history into File:Bafaki Tangal.jpg & File:Bafaki Tangal 1.jpg and warned the uploader. Thanks for letting me know. Regards, Fastily 19:08, 9 October 2024 (UTC)
Thnks for looking at these. Hopefully, that's the end of them. BTW, you're welcome to join the discussion at WT:IUP#AI-generated images of people if you want. The impetus for starting that discussion was some of the images mentioned above, but it's something I've been wondering about for quite some time. -- Marchjuly (talk) 20:20, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

Jonin at CleanDirect/sandbox

Greetings @Fastily,

I am attempting to get a base article in place for my employer and as best as I can tell I have established the Paid/COI requirements. Before creating another Sandbox draft to be considered for the AfC I need to be able to work with my sandbox again. Attempting to follow what rules and guidelines I can find it says to contact the user (you) that removed the page before recreating it.

Thanks Jonin at CleanDirect (talk) 20:19, 9 October 2024 (UTC)

File:Baatar as Erdene in Tungalag Tamir.jpg

Hi Fastily. You've already deleted File:Baatar as Erdene in Tungalag Tamir.jpg before per F9 as File:Baatar in Tungalag Tamir.jpg about a week ago. I'm not sure the uploader understands c:COM:SCREENSHOT because they've also reuploaded File:Baatar in Munkh Tenger film.jpg to Commons as File:Altan uls Minister N. Baatar.jpg. The Commons file has already been tagged/nominated for deletion, but not sure what to do with this one since the uploader has added {{Permission pending}} to it. I'm not sure whether VRT was even emailed, but I don't think VRT is going to accept an "own work" claim for a copyrighted screenshot anyway. Any suggestions on how to proceed here? -- Marchjuly (talk) 08:51, 11 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly. I've deleted it as a blatant copyvio. I think you're right that VRT isn't going to be able to do anything about this other than recommend deletion. Regards, Fastily 06:53, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Please restore

13:10, October 12, 2024 Fastily talk contribs deleted page User:Somebody "Notme" Else (U5: Misuse of Wikipedia as a web host)

Please restore. It was a humorous essay, common in Wikipedia. --Altenmann >talk 00:19, 13 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi Altenmann. I'm not sure I understand the purpose of this? And if this indeed a "humorous" essay, it belongs in the Wikipedia namespace, no? I see that Liz has already made this same recommendation to you. Courtesy ping for @WikiCleanerMan -Fastily 06:53, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Humorous essays don't go in userspace, so it was in fact a misuse under policy. Especially on a user page and I didn't find any essay like that where you would find essays on Wikipedia. If it was subpage, different story. --WikiCleanerMan (talk) 14:12, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Well, that was the point of the joke, a fictional user. I don't see how it violated WP:USERPAGE. Anyway, I am not going to dispute whether humor is OK in user space. Please restore it and move (without redirect) to Wikipedia:User Somebody "Notme" Else. --Altenmann >talk 18:55, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

JHey, just needing a follow up on my rollback request- just asking if I was declined or not? There is no  Not done over there nor is there a  Done. Is the request closed or not? I've not seen anything there

Rollback

Hi Fastily. Regarding my request for rollback permissions, do you think you could reconsider my request given my additional activity with my alt account in reverting vandalism, which I referred to in my reply? Thanks, ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 17:58, 12 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi Neveselbert. No, I stand by my decision. I have concerns around your recent judgment leading up to the incident in which your TE rights were revoked. Advanced permissions are only granted to trusted users with a demonstrated track record of problem-free contributions. The very fact that you have come here to ask about this is telling. Please take the hint. Also courtesy ping for @Pppery -Fastily 23:17, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
I don't think having template editor revoked is disqualifying for rollback (rollback requires much less trust than template editor), but have no further comment here. * Pppery * it has begun... 23:20, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me, Fastily. Can I just ask what difference it would have made in my having this user right? I've already been "rollbacking" through use of Twinkle and RedWarn, for almost a decade. (Just to clarify, I came here because the discussion was archived.) ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 19:48, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
I stand by my decision. If you follow my advice and spend a few months establishing a track record of problem-free contributions, then I will be happy to grant you the right. -Fastily 22:40, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
That's fine, and I certainly will do so, I'm just a bit confused as to what makes this user right different to using Twinkle and RedWarn. ‑‑Neveselbert (talk · contribs · email) 22:42, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Sounds good, I hope to see you back at PERM/R in a few months. rollback grants access to tools such as Huggle & AntiVandal that require a higher level of trust because they make it easy to perform a lot of potentially damaging actions *very* quickly. -Fastily 23:40, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Inquiry about recently deleted user page

Hi, I have a question about the content of a user page you deleted three days ago, because I just came across a somewhat suspicious edit by its creator. It's about the page User:Hussain67091, which was tagged with G11 and U5. Now to my question: I just came across an edit the user made today to the page BH (newspaper) (his first and, as of now, only edit), and since it had some NPOV issues that could be interpreted as promo, I was wondering if the content of the deleted user page was in any way related to this newspaper? (I see that you only mentioned U5 in the deletion log, but since it was tagged with G11 as well, I thought I'd ask, just to be sure.) Thanks! Felida97 (talk) 12:10, 17 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi Felida97. Not specifically, although worth noting that the user page contained self-promotion for this individual's SEO services. I've also indef'd the account as they're clearly not here to build an encyclopedia. -Fastily 22:40, 17 October 2024 (UTC)
Ok, thank you! Felida97 (talk) 17:28, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

Request for undeletion

Hi Fastily,

Similar to this request, could you please temporarily restore User:Samisawtak/tfp Wikipedia collaboration to my user space? It contains information that I need for an AE/RFAR request that I will be submitting within the next couple of weeks. It does not contain private information. BilledMammal (talk) 12:45, 18 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi BilledMammal. Here is the text of the page before it was blanked. Regards, Fastily 01:33, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Thank you, but I was actually hoping to also see the edit history - would it be possible to get it restored so I can do that? BilledMammal (talk) 04:24, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Would it also be possible to temporarily restore User:Ïvana/sandbox/TFP article development and User:Ïvana/sandbox/TFP book template to my user space? I don’t think they’ll be as useful as the other two, but they may help. BilledMammal (talk) 04:54, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
Sure, although before I do, may I ask why you need these? Thanks, Fastily 21:10, 19 October 2024 (UTC)
A community-banned editor has organised an EEML-style covert-canvassing ring, which these may contain some evidence towards. Related to this ring has been the organisation of non-ECP editors to make edits in ARBPIA, and these pages contain evidence of that organisation and the editors involved. BilledMammal (talk) 05:07, 20 October 2024 (UTC)
Got it, thanks for the clarification! Restored:

Invitation to participate in a research

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

WP:APOLOGY for Rollback permissions request incident

Dear Fastily,

I'm sorry if I did anything wrong on this talk page or at the Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback on 30 September-1 October 2024. For the message I removed at this diff here was wrong, I didn't think straight at the time but knew that was wrong. Your first response was fine and there was nothing wrong with it. It wasn't because you declined it (I don't really care if its declined) it's just came out "unfair" to me at the time, but now I think your response was completely fair enough. It was avoidable and I should've asked you how to turn on automated user warnings on talk pages with Twinkle. I would also note that I have a good understanding in basic Wikipedia policies.

I would also recommend when responding to any permission for requests for user rights that you assume good faith to all editors who intentionally or never has been uncivil towards others and maybe check the revision tags to see if they are using Twinkle, UltraViolet, Huggle, Red Warn etc.

———

I would like to ask you a question related to Twinkle (the tool I use),

I've tried both with Advanced mobile settings on and my personal desktop computer, I've seen other users' contributions that the tools like Twinkle or UltraViolet leaves automatic warnings in just a few clicks without manually warning them. But on my account, it doesn't work? Why is this? Do I have to turn on a specific setting or something for automated user warning talk page messages?

Anyways, enjoy your time been an admin on Wikipedia and keep going.

Thanks. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 07:51, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

Hi PEPSI697. I'm not aware of any "automatic warnings" feature in either tool. RC Patrol isn't a race to see who can perform the most reverts. It's best to move slowly and take care to select the appropriate template warning or leave a handwritten message. -Fastily 08:50, 30 October 2024 (UTC)
Thanks for noticing the speed of edits. However, I try to slow down and let others revert other vandalism. But sometimes, there could be small number of users patrolling RC. I'll try my hardest to slow down and choose the appropriate template. Thanks for the advice. PEPSI697 (💬📝) 09:17, 30 October 2024 (UTC)

U5s

Hi, a few days ago I pinged you on my talk page. I'm not sure if you have notifications enabled or if you just didn't reply to the discussion? Anyways, I had concerns about a specific U5: User talk:Clovermoss/Archive 13#Question from Bristlepaddy (12:02, 21 October 2024). I hope this is just an oversight but if so, please be more careful. Speedy deleting article drafts as U5 can be bitey. Courtesy ping to GPL93 as well. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 16:04, 3 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi Clovermoss. This looks a lot like a promotional piece/resume for a non-notable individual created by an SPA with the sole purpose of increasing this individual's SEO visibility. If I'm wrong in this instance, I'd love to know why, but it's worth noting that I encounter dozens of similar attempts every single day. I don't think Bristlepaddy has the purest of intentions here. -Fastily 19:31, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
I'm a bit concerned that you said you see dozens of similar situations to this one every day. Are you saying you delete all of these as U5s? Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:47, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Not always. But I'd love for you to tell me why this isn't SEO spam. -Fastily 19:49, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Because that's assuming the worst faith possible and this looks like the average draft of a random newbie. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 19:53, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Ok that's utter nonsense and you know it. This has nothing to do with assumptions of good or bad faith. Have you examined the sources on the page? And ironic that you're advocating for this page given that you yourself have doubts about the subject's notability. Sounds like you have trouble discerning between constructive contributions and spam, which I find troubling given that you're an admin. Like I said above, please explain to me how this isn't a thinly veiled advert. If you can't (or won't admit to your mistake), then please kindly get off my talk page. Regards, Fastily 21:36, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Hi Fastily, I don't see why you need to be so harsh here, since I don't see any open-and-shut indications that the account is a SPA. I'm really conservative when it comes to use of U5/G11, and really only tag when there’s clear indications that there’s something going on with the user page. Unambiguous signs that you’re probably familiar with would be having the same username as the subject stated in the draft, external links to social media and marketing headshots. Sure, the draft has links to primary sources, but there's an outside review for one of his plays and a ref to a book. There also isn't any clearly promotional language. This page is not unambiguous spam, and userspace is allowed for drafts. I probably would have declined a CSD myself. Either way, accusing another editor of bad faith by saying Ok that's utter nonsense and you know it. when they came to your talk page with concerns about one of your actions, and asking them to leave your talk page after saying that it was definitely a mistake is very dismissive and not a constructive way to discuss things. Fathoms Below (talk) 22:36, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
Have we interacted before? Very convenient for you to show up here, presumably at the behest of Clovermoss. I've given ample opportunity for OP to explain why this isn't an advert/SEO improvement and thus far they have failed to do so. I don't see why they need to you to come to their defense. Based on years of experience chasing down UPE's and keeping WP clear of spam/abuse, I can confidently say that this example above contains all the characteristics (albeit subtle) of SEO spam. I think I've made my position clear. Both you and Clovermoss have been around long enough so your inability to understand the issue is not my problem. This has been a waste of my time and I won't be participating any further. -Fastily 23:53, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
I did not canvass Fathoms Below. You should probably assume good faith more often. Clovermoss🍀 (talk) 00:20, 4 November 2024 (UTC)

Where to put workpages?

I noticed that you deleted a temporary workpage I created at Talk:Gitmo playlist/Temp. My understanding from Wikipedia:Workpages was that a workpage like this was fine, but I suppose it could be outdated. Other than my User subpages, is there any place I could place a temporary workpage like this in the future? Based5290 :3 (talk) 08:57, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Hi Based5290. I've never heard of a "workpage" until today. As a talk page of a non-existent content page, this is eligible for speedy deletion under WP:CSD#G8. Is there any reason why you can't use a subpage in your userspace? -Fastily 09:28, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
I thought that Talk:Gitmo playlist/Temp was a subpage which explicitly fell under Wikipedia:Subpages#Allowed uses. I'll probably move it over to my userspace, but I think I just wanted to make it more explicit that it was a draft change to the article that others could contribute to while the move discussion was ongoing. Based5290 :3 (talk) 09:34, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
Appreciate the clarification. For the record, SOP is to use your userspace for drafting changes. Anyhow, restored. -Fastily 09:41, 15 November 2024 (UTC)
@Based5290 The template {{G8-exempt}} exists to mark pages that might seem to fall under speedy deletion criterion G8 but do not and/or should be kept for some reason. Its use is not mandatory, but it can help avoid situations like this. Thryduulf (talk) 23:16, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Petition passed

Hi Fastily. The petition for you to make a re-request for adminship has succeeded. You may initiate a re-request for adminship during the next 30 days or become a candidate in an admin election. If you do not do either within a reasonable time frame, bureaucrats will have the discretion to remove your administrator privileges. There's more information on Wikipedia:Administrator recall. Best regards, —Alalch E. 23:06, 15 November 2024 (UTC)

Hey Fastily, you were my RfA nominator nearly 15 years ago so this saddens me somewhat. I don't agree with everything that was said at the recall petition but clearly there are some concerns about the volume and haste of your deletion and, more importantly, your responsiveness to questions about your actions. Much as with Graham87, I think these are concerns that could be addressed and the recall process was rather hasty. If you plan on doing things differently to address the community's concerns, and you need any help or advice (potentially as far as a nomination statement), I'd be happy to do what I can. You can get me on-wiki or by email. Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:57, 16 November 2024 (UTC)
