Question from KitotekNVE (04:29, 12 August 2024)

[edit]

My old account where I was a certified “experienced editor” / “mentor” got deleted, is there any way I can get that status back? --KitotekNVE (talk) 04:29, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @KitotekNVE - as far as I know, old accounts cannot be deleted (see WP:UNC). Do you mean you have lost access to your old account? What was the username? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 04:32, 12 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry for being so late to reply, my old account was Kitotek, I checked and Wikipedia says "'Kitotek' is not registered on this wiki. Please check CentralAuth to see if the account is registered on other wikis."
I also checked CentralAuth and it also says "There is no global account for "Kitotek"."
I know that the account existed because I have a screenshot of signing in with it (how I store passwords)
Thanks for helping, KitotekNVE (talk) 11:53, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @KitotekNVE do you remember a page you edited under your old account and when? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 12:25, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I can't really remember any specific articles with 100% certainty, but I seem to remember that there was one week back in 2022 where I did a bunch of minor fix edits on articles about some little known technologies as I was doing some personal research (I was watching a lot of the YouTuber Technology Connections at the time) Mostly just adding links between articles and making a few grammatical changes where they were obviously needed. I spent some time looking and I couldn't find any of them.
It's been a long time since I was actively making edits and I have sort of lost interest, now focusing more on my senior year of high school and trying to find a job. I'm not too fussed about the old account anymore, but it would be cool to possibly find some of the stuff I contributed to, I have a pretty poor memory so actually finding them isn't trivial.
.
Thanks for your help, have a nice day :) KitotekNVE (talk) 12:40, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I published my draft and I was wondering that how long does it normally take for the draft to be accepted? --AlessioCL (talk) 01:12, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @AlessioCL - usually it can take a couple of weeks, or a few months, for a reivew to be completed. However, I'll have a look at it. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 03:06, 25 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MawaSagar (09:42, 30 September 2024)

[edit]

Can I make changes on the following page- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Su-Kam_Power_Systems --MawaSagar (talk) 09:42, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MawaSagar do have a relationship with that company? As long as you do not have a conflict of interest, and you have reliable sources which support the changes, then it is ok to make changes. What kind of changes did you have in mind? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 10:11, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Victormaxian (20:08, 2 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello. I would like to write an article about Zaharia Cusnir, a photographer from Moldova I discovered some years ago. Do you want to help me to make this article? --Victormaxian (talk) 20:08, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Victormaxian - this person looks like a very interesting photographer. I can see there are articles about him from a number of different reliable sources (Radio Free Europe and the New York Times). If you go ahead and make a draft I'd be happy to review it. You can use this to create a draft: Wikipedia:Article wizard. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 10:08, 3 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Zaharia Cușnir (1912-1993) was an amateur photographer who lived in the village of Roșietici in Florești district. He photographed mostly the portraits of the people of his village and some of the surrounding area between 1955 and 1973, leaving behind a collection of about 4000 6x6 cm negatives.
Zaharia Cușnir was born the last in a family with 16 children from the village of Roșietici, Soroca county. He graduated from primary school in the neighboring village of Rogojeni. In 1941 he was conscripted by the army of the Soviet Union but did not reach the front because they were taken prisoner from the Marăndeni train station by the German army. He returns home in February 1944 just a few days before the town where he lives is captured by the Red Army.
In 1946, he became a primary school teacher at the school in the village of Rogojeni. In 1947 he was sentenced to 3 years in prison for allegedly shooting someone who had come to his house to steal pears from the tree.
He returns from prison completely changed and soon learns how to photograph from a nephew of his who has returned from military service.
His nephew lived in another village so they shared their territory for the photographer activity. Zaharia Cușnir became the first photographer in the villages of Cașunca, Rogojeni, Ţara, Ghindești, Roșietici and Cenușa.
He took the first photos in 1955. He mostly photographed portraits of people in the village. He was working on a Soviet Liubitel camera. He had a bicycle that he often gave people to hold when taking pictures, and a blanket that he arranged in the background when taking portraits.
Until 1973 he managed to photograph approximately 4000 photographic negatives, medium format 6x6 cm. Since his death in 1993, the house has remained uninhabited, the photos being put in a suitcase and stored in the attic.
In the spring of 2016, Victor Maxian Galușca, a student at the Academy of Arts in Chisinau, came to the village to film his documentary for his graduation exam. In Zaharia Cușnir's house, left without doors and windows, Victor discovered the scattered negatives. After two years of painstaking work to clean them of impurities, some scanned photos reached the Internet, thus the name of Zaharia Cușnir appeared in the public space.
Zaharia Cușnir's photos have been exhibited in exhibitions in several countries such as: Romania, Poland, France, Italy, USA. Articles have been written about him in the press in over 25 different languages, reaching every inhabited continent. Victormaxian (talk) 07:48, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I also have different photos to include in the article such as Zaharia Cusnir portrait, a document confirming he was taken as prisoner, the negatives in cleaning process, Zaharia Cusnir house when negatives were found, and some foto made by him. Victormaxian (talk) 07:50, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Victormaxian - do you know how to use the article drafting process? Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 10:50, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Never did that. Also I see Wikipedia recommends to not write an article if I'm directly connected to it. How would we proceed, tho to make it?
Respectfully.
Victor. Victormaxian (talk) 12:54, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Victormaxian - if you have a conflict of interest, it is still ok to be involved in a drafting process. It is putting an article in main space ("publishing") and then editing that one should not do where there is a conflict of interest. The main issue is to declare it (as you are doing). Can I suggest you add {{Template:User COI}} to your user page as well. Goldsztajn (talk) 22:20, 6 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Inawnuhmuhss on User:Inawnuhmuhss/sandbox (04:31, 21 October 2024)

[edit]

Hi, I had my article declined for I believe citation purposes. Is there some way I can know exactly where I errored so I know specifically what needs to be corrected? I could use the feedback --Inawnuhmuhss (talk) 04:31, 21 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Inawnuhmuhss - the problem with the draft is that is does not cite indpendent, secondary sourcing, that is, reliable sources. Only with reliable sourcing can articles appear on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, I had a quick look for sourcing on the subject, but nothing obvious appears. It might well be this person is not notable. Question from Kitgaroutte (19:59, 30 October 2024)

[edit]

Hello. It's nice to meet you too.

I wonder if it was ok to create a link to an external website when I added the album '9 Treasures' to John Stowell's Discography. The link goes to my website 'kitgaroutte.com' as a way of letting anyone interested know who I am. Does this violate the guideline about links to commercial interest. It was not my intention to commercialize anything, but since I have no Wikipedia page myself yet... which leads me to ask about creating my own page. That's discouraged I'm thinking? Thank you for any clarification you can provide. I will remove the link if that is best. --Kitgaroutte (talk) 19:59, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Kitgaroutte - welcome and thanks for leaving a message. I've left a set of links on your talk page which might be helpful. Your instinct about how to edit in circumstances like this is correct, because you have a relationship with the subject you are editing, this comes under Wikipedia's guideline on conflict of interest. In general, editors should not undertake work on articles where they have a conflict of interest. I'd encourage you to remove the link and leave a message on the talk page of the article asking for the edit to be made. This link describes the process of making an edit request: Wikipedia:Edit requests (note the part dealing with conflict of interest requests). I'm happy to help further, let me know if you have more questions. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 20:24, 30 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from MagicCactus (19:26, 20 November 2024)

[edit]

Hello, I'm trying to publish an article about "Operation Grange" an underground punk rock band from Suffolk Virginia. The only problem is that there are no citations online with which I can verify my information. I tried to use YouTube, even though it was an unreliable reference but it was declined. Do you have any idea about what I can do? I'm up for anything as long as I can get my article published properly. Thank You and Best Regards. --MagicCactus (talk) 19:26, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MagicCactus - unfortunately, if there are no independent, reliable sources that provide in-depth analysis about the band, then it cannot have an article on Wikipedia. The basic criteria for whether a subject should be in Wikipedia is called the general notability guideline (GNG). I'd encourage you to read that to get a full understanding of how Wikipedia determines whether a subject should be included. Also, do you have a connection to this band? In general, editors should declare if they have a conflict of interest in an area they are writing about. In this case, you may just need to be patient and see if this band develops a profile, if so, then it's possible it will become notable. Feel free to ask me anything else that you would like. hello what should i edit so i can help out? --Rich9277 (talk) 02:21, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

hi @Rich9277 - welcome! On your talk page I've left a set of links to help you get started. In terms of what to edit, it's really up to you! I started editing in an area I was familiar with - trade unions - it's usually easiest to start with something you know. However, another place to begin is looking in category lists of articles that need improving with citations or with editing or other things (eg Category:Articles lacking sources, Category:All articles with unsourced statements, Category:All articles needing copy edit). Feel free to ask me if you need any more help. Regards, Goldsztajn (talk) 02:30, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
