Relisting AfD discussions

[edit]

Hi there, I saw that you relisted Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Walpole (CDP), Massachusetts. Closing and relisting AfD discussions can be done by non-admins, but should only be done by non-admins with a lot of AfD experience. You were recently declined at WT:AFC/P for not having enough experience - and that's a much lower bar! For now, stick to just participating. -- asilvering (talk) 03:53, 13 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion sorting

[edit]

On Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2024 Nepal Premier League, I noticed you added this to deletion sorting for cricket. However, I had already done that - when I nominated this article, I put it in Events, Nepal and Cricket deletion sorting, it shows them all together in one note on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2024 Nepal Premier League (which might be why you missed it). As a result, that AFD is now showing twice on Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Cricket, would you be able to undo your adding of that AFD to the Cricket deletion sorting. Thanks in advance. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:16, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am extremely sorry- I did not think this would cause any errors. Reverting it now! I did not see that, sorry. Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 16:29, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Edit undone- hopefully that fixed it. Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 16:30, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No worries- mistakes happen. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:44, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Two things
Did you know- you are one edit away from having 80k edits.
Why did you replace both your talk page and userpage with black boxes? (not a problem, just curious!) Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 16:48, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I did not know I just reached 80k :) And the black boxes is a protest related to Wikipedia:2024 open letter to the Wikimedia Foundation- which in a nutshell is protesting against the fact that the Wikimedia Foundation might be about to give up personal information for 3 Wikipedia users in relation to a lawsuit in India. Which goes against all of WMF's privacy policies. Joseph2302 (talk) 16:53, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will join this movement protesting WMF. Congratulations! I am very surprised to see someone reach their 80k'th edit on my talk page! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 16:54, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Signed the page! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 16:57, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cooldudeseven7 -- I've deleted this G11, as the clear intent seems to be to promote, but note in future that userspace speedy criteria don't apply to draftspace. Also try to avoid using the non-specific speedy; if the situation doesn't fit any of the established criteria then speedy probably isn't the correct way to go. Regards, Espresso Addict (talk) 18:30, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, thank you! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 23:31, 14 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Former DRN Talk

[edit]

Hello, do you remember that DRN we tried to work out a few weeks ago?

I appologize if this is much less formal that should be stated, I assume that this is fine though based on how you mention you talk page as though.

This would be something I would mention to the main WP:AN, but both sides have become extrememly heated and hostile to each other. I worry that if I make any comment trying to resolve anything, they will make haneous accusitions or scrutinise my account, which is preventing me from directly interacting with the dispute as much as I want to. Both sides have gathered enough evidence to give each other (at least partial) blocks, and this type of environment honestly worries me.

I am telling you about this because I feel that it be important that this sentiment be notified to somebody who remained the most neutral in this situation, and that person is you and the administrators (which, administrators are trained to be very neutral). I enjoyed coming to a consensus with you and learning more about compromise and how Wikipedia's systems worked, but as mentioned before, the accusations that both sides wildly throw out make me very uncomfortable.

I am also expressing this publicly because I am interested in knowing your interest regarding this topic; do you think I am correct in distancing myself from the dispute, or should I have tried to intervene? I see more administrators slowly placing eyes onto the dispute, so I hope that the sudden notice is enough to make a solution feasible.

Thanks, Thought 1915 (talk) And it was said on 04:50, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Yes, I do remember. If this is the state I easily would intervene/join, however admin intervention may be needed, Do you need me to join? Is this violent as in insults or just very heated and intense + unsettled? Then, I can generate what is best for you. Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 04:26, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hope that the discussion does not require our intervention, because I have already mentioned, admins have already taken notice. Both sides are accusing each other of sockpuppeting. From what I see, one account has already been blocked due to the discussion and I see multiple suspicious accounts, that, as one user said, want that admins "please block" them. I am specifically worried about the personal attacks similar to this attack.
I appologize if my sentiments are disorganized, so I will try to make it more consice. I want to try and calm the situation, as both sides are quite angry and accusatory of each other of Sock Puppeting. The two things preventing me from doing such however are that I feel that the administrators already have the situation under control and that they would start making attacks about me if I interfered. We were already mentioned by name before the behavior dispute was moved to WP:ANI. Although I would usually keep this to myself, the fact that they are scritinising users to an extent that privacy concerns were brought up make me feel obligated to make this statement. Thought 1915 (talk) 04:52, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to intrude into this discussion. I was just looking into the participants in this current dispute, looking through their contributions and ended up here. I want to ensure you that you will not be facing a block just for being on the outer edges of this heated dispute. Being blocked is often the result of disruptive editing and one way that editors can be disruptive is to spend more time on talk pages and noticeboards arguing with each other than making productive edits to articles. We don't need more shit-stirrers, we need valuable contributors which you could very well become. I'd recommend that you stay away from ongoing arguments on noticeboards unless you think you can offer a point of view that will help to resolve disputes, not enflame them. And I'd encourage you to find more than one article to focus your work on. Most editors start out editing as SPA (single purpose editors) who have an interest in one subject. But the longer they edit, the more they find their interests expanding and broadening. We have a lot of WikiProjects which are editors who coordinate editing in one subject area, like the sciences or music.
But what I say to most new editors is that if you have questions like the ones that have come up in this discussion, please consider bringing them to the Teahouse. When I was a new editor, I brought a lot of questions and frustrations I was having to the Teahouse and there were experienced editors there to offer me advice, answers and support. It's a user-friendly forum that is oriented towards new editors and problems that they run into getting started. Good luck! Liz Read! Talk! 06:59, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alright, thanks. Also, how can you volunteer at the teahouse? Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:32, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also should I just direct users to the teahouse (at least new ones?) Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:33, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You know, I was coming back here to remove my Teahouse suggestion because I thought you were experienced enough not to need to go there with your questions. But if you go to the Teahouse page and you see a question you know the answer to, feel free to offer your policy-based advice. First thing is, if you are the first editor respond, say "Welcome to the Teahouse, Cooldudeseven7." A welcome is a nice way to reply and this is done by the Teahouse hosts. Second, offer your response. You might be surprised but everyone works in different areas of the project and sometimes newer editors know more about some aspect of editing here than experienced editors do. The only caveat is, if you are unsure of your answer, or it's just a guess, skip that question and look at others. It's better to give no information than incorrect information. If you like helping out there and you're getting good feedback about your work, you can approach a regular editor there, like Cullen and see if you can be an official Teahouse host. If it's not your thing, well, thanks for giving it a try. There is also the Help Desk and the Reference Desks but I prefer the Teahouse given the vibe and diversity of questions posed there. Good luck! Liz Read! Talk! 17:55, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Add a Fact survey and thank you

[edit]

Thank you for testing out the Add A Fact browser extension! This extension was developed as an experiment by the Future Audiences team at the Wikimedia Foundation to learn about new ways of contributing to Wikipedia from outside of our website/apps.

We are planning to wrap up this experiment this December, sunsetting the extension and publishing our findings on-wiki. We’d like to invite you to take part in an exit survey to tell us more about your experience of trying out the extension, and to share any ideas you have about how to support new ways of contributing to Wikipedia. The survey is anonymous (see the survey privacy statement) and should take about 10–15 minutes to complete.

You can take the Goole Forms survey here.

Kind regards, MPinchuk (WMF)

József Bihari

[edit]

Hi Jozsef Bihari not a living person therefor i do not understand why put you this template the article?? Texaner (talk) 17:49, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed. Sorry! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:51, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I replaced the template with another template, but not for living persons. Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:51, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think this page should have been draftified, as it was evidently accidentally created in mainspace instead of template space, and was cut-and-paste moved to Template:2024–25 Federation Cup (Bangladesh) group A. I have made a request for history merging, which I will now have to modify due to the draftification. JJPMaster (she/they) 17:57, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry. Should I
a. move the page back, delete any notifications to the users talk page and CsD the draft?
b. just keep it there?
Thanks and Smiley Sorry! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 17:58, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No, it's okay. I've already corrected the history merge request. JJPMaster (she/they) 18:03, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but again, I am really sorry for what I did. Is there anything I should have done instead? (eg CSD?) Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 18:04, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You should have just requested the history merge immediately. JJPMaster (she/they) 19:45, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Correction: I just learned that history merges aren't needed when there's only one major contributor to the page. I have nominated the draft for G6 speedy deletion. JJPMaster (she/they) 02:27, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Notice of noticeboard discussion

[edit]

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. The thread is Cut-and-paste move and draftification; unclear how to proceed. Thank you. JJPMaster (she/they) 02:36, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I was unaware of this and I am deeply sorry for draftification- I suppose I should learn more before continuing. Thanks and Sorry! Cooldudeseven7 join in on the tea talk 12:29, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
