Proposed deletion of While My Pretty One Sleeps

[edit]

The article While My Pretty One Sleeps has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No indication of passing WP:NBOOK

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I doubt this would have any trouble meeting GNG. Where did you look for coverage before prodding? All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 21:04, 7 November 2016 (UTC).[reply]

Hi Richard. There are a number of iw links to enwiki - on cywiki. Eg the article cy:Albatros penllwyd has [[en:Diomedea chrysotoma]] at the bottom of the page - which needs removing. Any idea where I could request a bot to delete them all please? They're all in the Categori:Adar (Category:Birds). Many thanks! Robin aka Llywelyn2000 (talk) 07:24, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ISO 3166 conversion

[edit]

Hi Rich, you seem to be the main author of the {{ISO 3166 name}} template family. I noticed that the country sub-template {{ISO 3166 name MK}} currently returns a piped code "Macedonia|name=Macedonia, the former Yugoslav Republic of", as if this return string was meant to be embedded in some other template call. However, I cannot figure out where and by what other template call this is meant to be used. The only places that show up in Special:Whatlinkshere/Template:ISO 3166 name MK are articles of the "Visa requirements for X citizens" series, which are all calling it through {{timatic}}, a specialized citation template for a visa information website. The timatic template is using the "ISO 3166 name" lookup in plain text, which results in the piped parameter code turning up erroneously in the displayed page text (e.g. Visa requirements for Chilean citizens#cite_note-117).

Three questions:

  1. Is the piped code in {{ISO 3166 name MK}} actually functional for some other indirect usage of this template that I'm not currently seeing? If not, would it be harmful if it were replaced with just a plaintext string?
  2. For this particular country, the ISO 3166 code ("Macedonia, the former Yugoslav Republic of") happens to differ from the name we conventionally use for the country here on Wikipedia (see WP:NCMAC). Are you by any chance aware of some other, similar template mechanism that could be used to convert a 2-letter ISO 3166 code to the plain (unlinked and unflagged) country name as we would want to use it in Wikipedia text (i.e. either plain "Macedonia" or "Republic of Macedonia"), rather than the official ISO designation?
  3. Are you aware of Wikipedia situations (outside the actual list of codes on the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 article) where we here on Wikipedia would need an automatic mapping of country codes specifically to the official ISO name forms, rather than to whatever name form we use for each country according to WP:COMMONNAME? (In other words: would it be harmful if we changed the functionality of the ISO 3166 name template series to systematically return the latter rather than the former?)

Thanks, – Fut.Perf. 16:13, 12 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  1. My memory of the fine detail (name=) is hazy. The replacement looks fine unless and until we find some reason otherwise.
  2. I am quite happy for these templates to do whatever is most useful. If we find we need the strict name (and I believe the template system itself is designed to be forgiving) then we can tweak the functionality somehow.
  3. I don't think there is any harm.

Listas

[edit]

Hello. Thank you for editing this. Even though I have been a member of WP Biography for ten years, I am not sure what "listas" is. Could you please explain? Please reply here and ping me. Thank you.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:33, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's the same as "DEFAULTSORT", it sets the sort order of all the categories on the page: in this case, for example you will see Moutte here, in the appropriate place. I would rather the parameter was called "list as", but there is a lot of resistance to change even on Wikipedia. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 22:39, 27 November 2016 (UTC).[reply]
Thanks. Is this just for stubs or all assessment levels?Zigzig20s (talk) 22:49, 27 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
