[edit]Rich Farmbrough/Archive (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
I have no intention of breaking editing restrictions. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 20:15, 30 December 2023 (UTC).
Accept reason:
Unblocked, see comment below — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:25, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Worm That Turned and Barkeep49: as the blocking administrators. — Ingenuity (talk • contribs) 22:26, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- My block was for 1 month so I think WTT is really the blocking admin here. I will just note beyond the discussion which led WTT to turn my 1 month into an indefinite (which I believe I supported at the time) that Rich's behavior led WTT to make a good metaphor around wildflowers which I expanded and turned into the essay WP:WILDFLOWERS. But there was never any need for this to be an indefinite block so from my, non-blocking admin POV, if an admin is convinced rich will not repeat the problems that led to the first block, this should be accepted. Barkeep49 (talk) 22:43, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- WTT hasn't edited in over a month. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 00:17, 31 December 2023 (UTC).
- Given the complicated history here, and the extensive discussion that led to the latest block, I think any unblock request should go to WP:AN for review. Rich, would you be willing to craft an unblock request more appropriate for that forum? – bradv 01:20, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- I think AN is an option for Rich but in no way should this block require community consensus to undo. That is not in the spirit of either the block I placed or what WTT placed. If Rich would prefer AN review, fine. If Rich prefers typical unblock review I think that should be on the table. Barkeep49 (talk) 01:32, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- I have no idea what could be clearer than my unblock request above. I'd rather keep this simple, it's an unblock request that addresses the block reason pretty much head on, and should be capable of resolution here. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 16:26, 31 December 2023 (UTC).
Welcome back. Very happy to see this rather belated request and look forward to seeing your return to the project in 2024. As noted above, Dave is currently inactive, however I believe he would support an unblock in the circumstances. The unblock request is quite clear, and I accept it as genuine and sincere. I will be monitoring your edits regularly and will not hesitate to reblock if I judge that you controvene your editing restrictions — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:25, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
- I have no confidence that Rich will remain on the right side of his editing conditions, but equally no objections to this unblock, good luck for the future WormTT(talk) 00:52, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- I find your lack of faith … disturbing. All the best: Rich Farmbrough 04:31, 1 January 2024 (UTC).
- Rich, I blocked you indefinitely because you stated, clearly, that you felt the burden of the restrictions would be intolerable and you would not go along with them. Your unblock request simply stated your "intent" to follow them. Based on your history, I'm expecting you to breach your restrictions and claim good intentions. Please do prove me wrong. Speedy deletion nomination of CLOC (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on CLOC (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Reminder
[edit]Editing restriction | Regardless of the editing method (i.e. manual, semi-automatic, or automatic; from any account), Rich Farmbrough is indefinitely prohibited from making cosmetic changes to wikicode that have no effect on the rendered page (excepting those changes that are built-in to stock AWB or those that have demonstrable consensus or BAG approval). This includes but is not limited to: changing templates to template redirects, changing template redirects to templates (see here for AWB stock changes on this item, with the understanding that bypassing template redirects will only be done when there is a substantive edit being done), changing the spacing around headers and ordered lists (except to make an aberration consistent with the rest of the page), and changing the capitalization of templates. Furthermore, prior to orphaning/emptying and deleting categories or templates, the appropriate processes (WP:CFD/WP:TFD) should be engaged. | Sanction imposed per this AN discussion, to be enforced by escalating blocks |
Editing restriction | Rich Farmbrough is not permitted to make any mass changes to articles, broadly construed, and regardless of editing method, cosmetic or not, without a demonstrable consensus from the community that he is explicitly permitted to do so. Further, he is entirely prohibited from using Auto Wiki Browser or directly making any edits to Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Template redirects or any other page related to the governance and use of automated or semi-automated tools. Any such changes desired must be proposed on the appropriate talk page, and may only be enacted by other parties. This sanction does not replace or nullify other pre-existing sanctions on this user, and may be appealed no sooner than one year from the date it was approved by the community. | Sanction imposed per this ANI discussion. |
Creation restriction | Regardless of the editing method (i.e. manual, semi-automatic, or automatic; from any account), Rich Farmbrough is indefinitely prohibited from mass creating pages in any namespace, unless prior community approval for the specific mass creation task is documented. The definition of "mass creation" and the spirit of the restriction follows Wikipedia:BOTPOL#Mass article creation. | Sanction imposed following this ANI discussion and the prior editing restriction, to be enforced by escalating blocks |
Editing restriction | Consensus in respect of Rich Farmbrough's editing restrictions shall be defined as approval at WP:BRFA or a formally closed WP:RFC with more than ten non-canvassed participants. | Sanction imposed per this ANI discussion. |
I'm fairly sure this is not needed, but for complete clarity, the restrictions above are applicable — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 18:35, 31 December 2023 (UTC)
Wikidata weekly summary #608
[edit]- Welcome to 2023’s Final Weekly Summary!
A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the newsletter this year!👏🙏 As we step into 2024, we'd love to hear what changes you would like to see in the newsletter. Share your wishlist here: What changes would you like to see in the newsletter in 2024?"
- Discussions
- Import sitelinks, labels, descriptions from ku wikipedia pages which use the template w:ku:Template:Înterwîkî etîket û danasîn. (There are over 1800 articles that use this template waiting to be connected to Wikidata at the moment.)
- Add sitelinks to kuwiktionary / kuwikipedia categories / create an item for the category if necessary. I have been doing this manually for quite some time using Quickstatements but since I need to get permission for the first task, I will be handling them using a bot as well.
- Events
- Upcoming: Introducing WMF Wishathon for Wikimedia’s Community Wishlist! "focused on bringing together people who already contribute to technical aspects of the Wikimedia projects, who know how to find their way on the technical ecosystem, and who are able to work or collaborate on projects rather autonomously." March 15th to 17th, 2024.
- Ongoing: Weekly Lexeme Challenge #122: Rock-forming minerals

- Tool of the week
- Cersei - is a tool designed for importing or scraping data from various third-party sources, using source-specific Python code. It can use a "headless browser" to scrape complicated websites that rely on eg JavaScript to navigate. It can therefore access data sources that can not be accessed via eg Mix'n'match. The data from sources can be updated regularly, either for everything, or just changed entries (if the source has a "recent changes" equivalent).
- Wikidata:Zotero/Cita - is a Wikidata addon for Zotero that adds citations (i.e., what other items an item cites) metadata support to this open source reference management software, using cites work (P2860) information available from Wikidata, and enabling users to easily contribute missing data.
