Article Name Change
[edit]Hi Rich,
Recently I changed the name of the article :Cameron Wheatley: to :Cam Wheatley: with no luck. Are you able to change the article name to the shorter version? The persons name doesn’t show up on any search engines with his shortened name and a lot of people him Cam in news articles etc. are you able to create a template or URL to direct the search to his Wikipedia page? Best regards and thanks for your help Rich 👍 Auscricket90 (talk) 06:01, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
- Google usually picks up redirects very quickly, in this case they haven't. I have added the shorter name to the infobox, which may help.

Speedy deletion nomination of 2170
[edit]Hello Rich Farmbrough,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged 2170 for deletion, because it's too short to identify the subject of the article.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions.

One technical issue
[edit]Hi Rich Farmbrough, I saw you on Wikipedia:Village pump (technical), and I came here to ask you about a technical issue. I was not sure where to post my message as your talk-page does not contain user messages, as I see now.
I see that your signature date looks small because you use parameter. The question is do you do it manually every time you sign your post, or is there any setting in the preference? -AsceticRosé 12:40, 19 January 2018 (UTC)
- I have my sig set to not auto sign. Everything is in the sig field, including the date and time. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 13:22, 19 January 2018 (UTC).

Government shitdown

Another listas question
[edit]Hi, Rich. I've been trying to work my way through the backlog again and I'm confused on how to handle Chinese names. I've generally been sorting them without flipping the names (i.e. 'Huang Chen' would be sorted as 'Huang, Chen'), but then I came across this article where you seem to have done it differently. I've generally left Chinese biographies alone in the past because I don't know for certain about the naming conventions, but it is easier to clear the backlog if I know how to handle those names and I was hoping perhaps you could advise. Lepricavark (talk) 16:33, 24 January 2018 (UTC)
- You are probably right on these. There are "100" family surnames in China (actually more like 500), Huang is 96 on my list: User:Rich_Farmbrough/temp9 - but Chen is no 10. I put the list together to help with issues like this.
- (The Japanese in later years have taken to using the "western" name order, so that can be much more confusing.)
- Keep up the good work!
- All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 23:20, 24 January 2018 (UTC).
- Thanks for clearing that up. Lepricavark (talk) 01:50, 26 January 2018 (UTC)
An Afd that refuse to close and relisted 3 times in a row
[edit]Hi Rich, I need your advise. Papa Joe Aviance was nominated for deletion on 1 January 2018 by an editor known for nominating newly created articles the moment they are created, even worst, disregarding WP:BEFORE as evident here. The discussion for Papa Joe Aviance can be found here. It was relisted on 8 January 2018 by Killiondude [1]. After the 7 day time limit, it was relisted again by Spartaz on 16 January 2018 [2]. The nomination attracted few contributions from other editors, but from my own reading of things, it should have been a keep or at the very least a no consensus result and should have been closed on 23rd January 2018. However, instead of being closed, it was left open. On 24th January 2018, I pinged Killiondude and Spartaz asking them to close it and mention that it should have been closed the previous day as per policy [3]. Killiondude has not been active in the past few days going by their contribution so I appreciate they might not have seen it. As such, I went to Spartaz's talk page and notified him that this discussion should have been closed since the previous day [4] However, instead of Spartaz closing the discussion, he relisted it for the 3rd time in a row on 24th January 2018 [5]. I went to their talk page and notify them that is clearly a contravention of Wiki policy in regards to relisting [6]. He started telling me I should assume good faith and not to lecture him. I told him this is not a lecture and I'm merely stating policy [7]. The full discussion on his talk page can be found here where he told me the concerns I've expressed are too long and he didn't read them, and asked whether I haven't got something worthwhile to spend my time on. That was then followed by this disingenous edit about the concerns the editor of the article and I have expressed in the Afd [8]. His conduct is a blatant abuse of policy and if he was unable to close it, he should have left it with an admin/editor to close it. I am at the end of my tether with this editor and nominator because their conduct is driving away editors that work on Black /African related articles which is under represented on Wiki. Can you please advise how to resolve this issue? Many thanks. Senegambianamestudy (talk)
