When something is unexpectedly missing from the encyclopedia it's worth checking whether you've typed it right! You edited the Turbary article yourself in 2009. I've converted the duplicate article to a redirect - might be better just deleted. If there's anything not covered in the existing article I leave it to you to rescue and add it. Cheers. Hi. I was wondering if any of the off sources that you provided for Clem Harvey's article provide substantial coverage for him as an actor. I ask because I did some searching and I haven't been able to see how he meets WP:ENTERTAINER or the general notability guidelines, as most coverage I have been able to find has been trivial, and I figured that maybe I'm missing something. Thanks. Canadian Paul 17:14, 12 July 2016 (UTC)
- Yep, it's hard to find anything about Clem, I was hoping that three is an obituary somewhere (if he's dead) or an article in one of the film magazines. I think he may have had some links to aviation. I'm not sure, though, if Clem Harvey is his real name.
- It seems strange, though, to have a red-linked member of Ocean's Eleven.
- All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 20:18, 12 July 2016 (UTC).
You might be interested in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Dictionary of National Biography/Archive 3#DNB contributors in wikidata. In particular redlinks for the larger list (including the initial two supplements) are a single SPARQL query these days; and a couple of dozen of those people are covered in the ODNB. Charles Matthews (talk) 10:18, 13 July 2016 (UTC)
- That is most interesting. I am constrained to use the tempaltes which are in my user space, until this job is done. Unfortunately the Subst: keyword doesn't work within refs, so some fudging is required. I think I may be able DNB properly this evening.
- All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 11:51, 13 July 2016 (UTC).
- This works: {{safesubst:#tag:ref|{{cite web|url=https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/hh802690%28v=vs.85%29.aspx|title=Alternatives to using Transactional NTFS|author=<!--Staff writer(s); no by-line.-->|access-date={{subst:TODAY}}|website=[[Microsoft Developer Network]]}}}}. But probably tou know that yourself, nevermind then. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 15:45, 13 July 2016 (UTC)

Mistake?
[edit]I think here you meant false flag not black flag? - Brianhe (talk) 12:46, 17 July 2016 (UTC)
- Hmm... there seems to be an almost synonymy between false flag operation and black flag operation. Possibly this arose from black operation (and black bag operation) being conflated with false flag operation. Be that as it may, Humpty-Dumpty like, when I say "black flag operation" I specifically mean one that is intended primarily to impugn the party who's flag is being flown, rather than one where the primary purpose is the operation itself, and the flag is simply a way to avoid blame. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 00:07, 18 July 2016 (UTC).

DNB biographies
[edit]hi, richard, nice work on the DNB articles.
however, i see you have invented your own style. see also Victorinus_Bythner for another style of citing DNB. you might want to consider: using template:DNB for cut and paste; ignoring the initials which are a wikisource thing; author link is normally to the author wikipedia page, your author linksred, because not all authors have a bio. and the DNB endnotes are shown as endnotes indented after template:cite DNB; you might want to add this category Category:Wikipedia articles incorporating text from the Dictionary of National Biography; don't know why you included the banner at the bottom.
keep in mind there should also be an ODNB article to link to using template:cite ODNB, for example [1] and incorporating these makes good edithathon work for newbies.
cheers. Humungadunga (talk) 16:49, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi, I've looked at the instructions but I'm not sure how you could divide an existing stub category into smaller stub categories. Thanks, --Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 14:31, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) @Rubbish computer: First, did you propose it at WP:WSS/P? If so, which category is this? --Redrose64 (talk) 16:45, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- @Redrose64: No, sorry I didn't realise I had to propose it there. Thanks for letting me know, Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 16:51, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- There are also some general guidelines I think about the max and min number of stubs in a cat. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 17:19, 28 July 2016 (UTC).
- Ok thanks. Rubbish computer (HALP!: I dropped the bass?) 17:48, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
DADS
[edit]Dear Rich,
Thank you for making Wikipedia better.
I reverted a recent edit you made to Template:DADS because apparently the URL of that dictionary has changed yet again. Apparently not enough people understand that, in the words of Tim Berners Lee, cool URIs don't change. --DavidCary (talk) 16:47, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
- I agree. We have this problem at RfD sometimes. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 17:18, 28 July 2016 (UTC).
