Deletion of Nikolay Nikolaev Todorov

The article in Wikia site was credited by me and I'm the author of the two of this articles. If it's possible take back the original of the draft. — User: Brassmonger — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brassmonger (talkcontribs) 09:42, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

  • As I have already told you: ensure that the page at wikibulgaria carries a {{cc-by-sa-3.0}} or compatible licence. Also, it should acknowledge that the content is copied from Wikipedia. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 17:06, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
    • I'm a different person from the one that started this thread, RHaworth. My point was that the draft was not a copyright violation. The wikipedia draft was created first; it's immaterial whether the external website that copied it has acknowledged that and it's completely irrelevant what licence it carries. – Uanfala (talk) 20:20, 1 October 2018 (UTC)
  • Oops, sorry - you are different. I disagree: if the article was published here with a cc-by-sa then everybody including its author should abide by those terms. But sheer practicality also suggests that to avoid a repetition of a spurious copyvio tagging, it would be a good idea to put a cc tag on the page at wikibulgaria. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:19, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

Katoomba

Hi RHaworth, thanks for your help on Paragon Cafe, Katoomba and Katoomba railway station. I made a mistake on Katoomba railway station and I'm glad that you caught it. A bunch of the articles using the New South Wales Heritage Register have paragraphs copied from that website. I accidentally targeted Katoomba railway station when I clearly intended another article. I have placed a comment on @Rangasyd:'s talk page as he has been working on these articles, including Paragon Cafe, Katoomba. — Leschnei (talk) 22:37, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Hi RHaworth - @Leschnei: incorrectly tagged these articles because he neither read the attribution section or Wikipedia:Copyright, which would have clearly explained to him that it was correctly attributed with a Wikipedia-compatible license. Can you please undelete that article? The Drover's Wife (talk) 07:25, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Douglas Bowie

Hi, if you read the note I left in the talk section of Douglas Bowie's page, you will have seen that this is NOT a copyright violation. I am the creator of the Douglas Bowie performancewiki.ca page that Wikipedia is claiming is the copyright violation issue. Douglas Bowie, my father, is the author of the content on BOTH that page AND what has been used to create the Wikpedia page that you deleted. You've also managed to put a lock on the page so I can't recreate it. This s important to him and I would like to get the page completed soon. Can you PLEASE remove the lock and reinstate the page, or allow me to re-create it and stop it from being deleted again. This is very frustrating. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abowie84 (talkcontribs) 19:32, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Extended content
*@Abowie84: For one, you have a direct conflict of interest in writing about your father. I invite you to read WP:COI. Two, taking content from a website, even one that you own, is very likely to be content that is not written in a neutral tone. Have a read through WP:NEUTRAL. Three, even if it were prose acceptable to an encyclopedia, we can't accept text taken from a website without direct evidence from the owner of the site that the text is released under a free license. We can't accept the word of an editor on this project. Imagine if you will; let's assume for the moment you are not Doug Bowie's son, and someone having no connection to you were to take the content from that website without permission and post it here. That is directly violating your copyright. Have a read through Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. Four; while I certainly don't mean to be rude, your father's desire to have a page here on Wikipedia has no influence on the decision to have one here. -- Hammersoft (talk) 19:49, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

@Hammersoft: There is no way for administrators here to have proof that the content was created on Doug's computer by him without significant intrusion into his (or my) privacy, as it would require uploading screenshots of email correspondence and the metadata for the documents used to create the content, and that he gave permission for its use for this page. The decision is incredibly heavy-handed. And, your comments back are, in fact, rather aggressive and rude. You have also discussed the neutrality of the content without reading it. The content is factual and contains a number of citations to other Wikipedia pages, as well as external corroborating sources. It reflects the tone and style of the content displayed on other playwrights' pages that have NOT been deleted from Wikipedia, nor will they be because they follow the rules - as does this one in terms of the content. If this page needs to be created by a colleague of his in order to ensure that it follows the rules, then we can have that done. But it is still possible that some of the material will be from what Doug has written on his website and what appears on his performancewiki.ca page - and there still seems to be no way to prove that he has given permission for its use. How can this challenge be overcome? — Abowie84 (talk) 20:09, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @Abowie84: I'm sorry you feel I've been rude when I rather explicitly stated it was not my intent to be rude. I assure you I have no intention of being so. Text based communication is a very limited form of communication. Please, in the future, assume good faith that I have the best of intentions. Thank you. As your other comments; Without communication from the person who created the content, we have no way of verifying if the content is available under an acceptable license for our use here. All content here, with limited exceptions, must be available under a free license. That's the very nature of this project. You are correct; I have discussed the neutrality of the content without reading it. This is because I am not an administrator and thus can not read deleted content. I was speaking in the abstract; that language used here on encyclopedia articles must be neutral in tone. I was not specifically addressing any content you wrote or copied from elsewhere. As for citations to other Wikipedia pages; we don't cite Wikipedia as a source. See WP:UGC for why. If you or your father wish to donate material to Wikipedia, then please follow the instructions at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. -- Hammersoft (talk) 20:21, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
@Hammersoft: I generally do give people the benefit of the doubt, particularly over text. But including the comment about your intention unfortunately does not necessarily mean that your comments do not come across in that way. They just seemed to be almost condescending, that's all. We all read things differently, so it's not a big deal. I just voiced the way I received them. No harm done. So, how would one demonstrate that communication had been had between the copyright holder and the author of a particular page? Is there a Wiki page that you can point me to that could assist with that? Donating material does not seem like the appropriate route for this instance. In terms of the content, while I understand your original comment, effort was made to ensure that the tonality was factual and neutral. I reiterated this point many times while the content was being edited (it is not a direct pull from the other sites, so there must have been just part of it that got flagged for copyright issue). I feel like there needs to be a better mechanism for deleting and blocking sites, perhaps where the administrator needs to communicate with the author first before applying the deletion or particularly a block. It seems too easy for administrators to delete pages, without any repercussions for deleting them without cause or consideration. I would like to hear from the individual that placed the block on this. It would have been more responsible and appropriate for them to have communicated with me before doing so, and giving me an understanding of what needed to be modified - and, as you said, giving me the benefit of the doubt (and actually reading the comments I made in the talk section for the page) and allowing me to explain and/or demonstrate that it was not a copyright issue at all. I would have happily had all of this discussion earlier in the process, i.e. before a deletion or block. But, at this point (and I am sure this is the case with many people who have pages deleted unnecessarily), I am frustrated and annoyed because my time has been wasted for no reason. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Abowie84 (talkcontribs)
  • @Abowie84: Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials is the place you need to review, in particular WP:DONATETEXT from further down in that page. As for a different procedure on blocking sites; if we allowed site owners to have a say in whether we delete their content on here, we would lose control of the project. Literally hundreds of thousands, even millions, of companies and artistic creators try to get their content onto this project. We simply can not do as you suggest. Yes, it is easy for administrators to delete pages. However, administrators are carefully vetted before they are given such privileges. Administrators are expected to follow our Wikipedia:Deletion policy. If they did not follow that policy, there would likely be repercussions in doing so. From what I can see, Draft:Douglas Bowie was deleted three times in relatively rapid succession for violating the copyright of this page, which clearly notes on the bottom of the page that the license is CC-BY-NC 4.0, which is incompatible with our licensing here. This is a proforma deletion; if text is copied from a source such as this and it is placed here, it will be deleted as we simply will not accept material that is not compatible with our licensing requirements. In this case, it's because of the -NC part. We insist on having material that can be used commercially. I'm going to bow out of this conversation now. I think I've commented on the salient points and pointed you to the appropriate locations. Hopefully I've been of some help. All the best, -- Hammersoft (talk) 22:14, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
  • What an inordinate amount of chat. All that needs to be said is to point out the NC clause. In any case Alison, kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no CoI thinks your father is notable and writes about him here. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 17:06, 1 October 2018 (UTC)

ASCII 128 to ASCII 300

Hi Roger, thanks for deleting ASCII 128. Any chance you could also delete the other redirects in this series up to ASCII 300 per my request in the hatnote at the former ASCII 128 redirect? They were all created by the same user, and R3 applies to all of them. If it helps in any way to reduce your workload I could create a list of links to them, but I'm not prepared to nominate them all individually. (ASCII 0 to 127 and any 4-digit numbers should not be speedy deleted, though.) I know, a mass-nomination is a bit unorthodox, but I really think these particular redirects don't need nor deserve individual discussions, but I'll leave that up to you. What do you think? Greetings. -- Matthiaspaul (talk) 18:34, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Great, thanks. Here are two more: missed one ASCII 132 and typo ASCII63. -- Matthiaspaul (talk) 19:48, 3 October 2018 (UTC)

Following up on questionable redirects created by meanwhile indef blocked user User:Xayahrainie43, could you be so kind and speedy delete another bunch of them?

Creating "History of Borussia Dortmund"

Hi Mr Haworth, My name is Wayne, I'm a first-year student from University of Sydney. I'm studying a subject called "Writing for Digital World" this semester, which we study about how to contribute to Wikipedia. The assignment we are currently working on is creating a new article on Wikipedia. I chose "History of Borussia Dortmund" because it was listed on "Requested Article". Last time by my mistake I created a blank page on "History of Borussia Dortmund", and got speedy deletion. I understand that and sorry for the inconvenience. Now I’m writing this new article by myself using reliable sources online. It will be inevitably including some repeated information on page *Borussia Dortmund, but I will be covering more detailed information that was not on that page. We are still drafting our article, so it might be published within this month, and before publish to Wikipedia, article we written will be reviewed by peer also our tutor to ensure it is a “good article”. Thank you for understanding, please let me know if you have any questions. Wayne — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seraveeye (talkcontribs) 14:08, 4 October 2018 (UTC)

Regarding deletion of images

Hi there, you deleted photos I uploaded recently, 11-17 Screen Acting and Film Camp 2018.png and A movie still from The Cullercoats Fishlass.png. I am the copyright owner of the photos. Please would you replace them, or let me know the process I need to go through to avoid having them deleted again? Many thanks, Obsteve (talk) 16:29, 7 October 2018 (UTC),

  • I will reply but first: provide proper links to the photos I am alleged to have deleted and explain why you uploaded them as PNG files - forty times bigger than the JPG versions. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:58, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

"Provide proper links to the photos". I can't, they've been deleted! "Explain why you uploaded them as PNG files" noted, I had no idea there was a size limit. I can easily upload smaller jpg versions. You can see a similar deleted photo currently on our page Act 2 Cam. I would be very grateful for any pointers letting me know what I'm doing wrong. Thank you, Obsteve (talk) 17:17, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

  • I will reply properly but first, sorry to persist: if you had not provided links, I would have forgiven you but you have provided links - invalid ones! When you edit this page there is a box at the top headed "wikify!". Please read from "you should". (Hint: this edit is in your handwriting.) As to PNGs: there is a file upload limit - 100M bytes. But that is not the point: why did you choose PNG rather than JPG for upload here when you used JPG to upload to Twitter? I note that your own website is inconsistent with PNG, PNG but JPG. Is it something to do with how you capture stills from a movie file? — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:44, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, I am not very savvy with png/jpg differences. I don't have a very technical brain, I just took a screen grab on my computer. It might be default to png, I'm not sure. I just find it easy to hit cmd +shift +4 on my mac and, presto, I have an image! I don't run the website, and can't vouch for the content or explain the inconsistency. I can ask, though. It's not urgent to get the photos up, I was just confused as to why they were deleted. I guess I need to read the instructions a little better! I have read some of the discussion regarding their deletion now, and will need to mull it over. Meantie, thank you very much for your assistance Obsteve (talk) 12:27, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Obsteve, for some reason I am taking pity on you. The links you should have provided are this and this. Can you see the difference? In order to make them acceptable, use the photos on a page on act2cam.com accompanied by a clear {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} licence declaration. Then upload them to the Commons as JPGs with a {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-4.0}} licence and giving the source as the act2cam.com page. You could also mention that they are used on your Twitter account page. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 17:16, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi RHaworth thank you very much, I really respect your time to explain this. I can see the difference, and I will go to the website for reference in future, making a clear declaration. I screen-grabbed the videos and, because they were not in the public domain, I posted the photos retrospectively on my twitter feed under the misapprehension that would help. Stupid eh? Many thanks once again! Obsteve (talk) 22:04, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

C. Anbarasan

Please can you restore C. Anbarasan, which you just deleted as A7. He was an elected representative of a state assembly and therefore notable. In any event, the nominator was mistaking notability for credible significance and thus not abiding by A7. - Sitush (talk) 18:10, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

Yes, SpacemanSpiff spotted it. I think that is the first time I have had an article deleted, and I've created a fair few directly in mainspace and only perhaps seven or eight in user space (all of the latter many years ago). There isn't much to say about the guy, or at least not through Google searches, but he is inherently notable as an elected representative of a state legislature and the article as it was then did have that sourced. I'm surprised you didn't realise that but, hey ho, it was probably just human error because I know you do a lot of CSD work. No worries. - Sitush (talk) 11:47, 8 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Could you either undelete the article for Arnaud Valois or put a copy of the text in my SandboxA so I can address any remaining notability issues? Looking at the non-English versions there seems plenty to justify notability, especially recently winning a Lumières Award. I'm interested in this one as part of 120 BPM's public awareness of gay history. Thanks -- (talk) 10:24, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

I created that page. which is well scourced. Copyright violation was not violated there. As far as i remenber only 24% amount may be matched with one sourced (when deletion taged then probably 42.9%) means reconstraction was going on. so why this page was deleted? Requesting please reverify that page. and if you think still it was written in non wiki style then restored in my sand box / draft that i can reconstract again to become wiki styled page. Also drawing attention that there was talk page .. and some notes also there. But no discussion was there. That hearted me. — শক্তিশেল (talk) 03:11, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi,RHaworth! I found out that you have deleted an article I created, which was tagged for speedy deletion, for some reason. I couldn't contest the deletion on time as I was not logged in on the Wikipedia at that time. Please note that the article was reviewed by experienced Wikipedia users. It was written on the basis of reliable sources, and there are some that I haven't inserted yet. I believe that Non-compromised Pendulum should not have been tagged for a speedy deletion, as there was not a single phrase which meant to be a promotional one, as the whole text was based on sources only. For these reasons, I kindly request to restore the article and give some recommendations on how it can be improved. — Aspireforintelligence (talk) 15:54, 11 October 2018 (UTC)

You could try and re-submit via AfC but it would be better if you would kindly have the decency to wait until someone with no CoI thinks your club is notable and writes about it here. Copernicus Emergency Management

Dear RHaworth, Why did you delete the page? There is no copyright infringement at all... Under Copernicus Regulation (EU) No 377/2014 (document duly referenced in the page) and Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) No 1159/2013, the information produced by the Copernicus Emergency Management Service shall be made available to the public on a full, open and free of-charge basis. Verify it directly at its Data & Dissemination Policy. "Information produced" covers also the website itself. Besides, I have an explicit permission of the owner to post it here. So why exactly did you delete it, without raising a question or reading the documents yourself ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by O.dvorak (talkcontribs) 10:36, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

WikiUCFCOM/DLEMERGEBM block appeal

Hey RHaworth! You soft-username blocked "WikiUCFCOM" back in March. The user has now changed their username to DLEMERGEBM. Do you have any objections to an unblock? Best, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) 02:59, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Socks?

Do you think that these two accounts are controlled by the same person? Both User:Mannu AB/sandbox and User:Lkmad/sandbox contained/contain very similar Java code which is written to interact with an SQL database. It seems unlikely that even one person would create a sandbox page for this, so it suggests to me that these accounts are linked. Both accounts only performed one edit (the creation of the strange sandbox page). What do you think? Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 19:28, 14 October 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply. I have seen several new users do exactly the same thing (found through Special:NewPagesFeed). I have added an extra 4 usernames to the SPI report Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Madnk who do exactly the same thing. I am not sure that the sockpuppeteer is Madnk (rather is a sockpuppet) but I could not find similar cases and do not know who the mastermind behind this might be. Could I get some help/advice please?

Hi, I was doing NPP a couple of days ago & came across a poorly sourced/formatted article Michael Ugwu with a heavy promotional slant. I did some cleanup & added sources but also added some material about issues. One of the 2 people who's been editing the page looks like they might have COI issues and keeps removing the well sourced negative material with little or no explanation and a refusal to discuss it on the article talk page or their own talk page. I don't want to get dinged for a 3R situation or an edit war, you're one of the admins I know deals with this a lot so I'm hoping for some advice on how to proceed. Thanks! JamesG5 (talk) 17:38, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Someone who leaves an edit summary such as this one does not command any respect at all. If you and I revert them alternately, we can block Illmacul8 under the 3RR if appropriate without running the risk of our selves committing the same offence.
Advice to you: please read this and fix all the naked URLs you have added to the Ugwu page. I feel that use of wiki jargon is something very likely to put off new users. Even when writing to experienced users, I would never use WP:NPP, CoI or 3RR without making each one into a link. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 20:21, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

Good advice, thanks. He's continued to revert it, and more to the point he's posted on both his own talk page & the article talk page with comments like "we don't want any negative information here, only good information" and other such that shows he's a) not working alone and b) only intending to do promo. — JamesG5 (talk) 08:30, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Section removal

Good evening, I noticed we have been having issues with the Controversy part of the page been deleted, this is because, the Wikipedia page is been created and some parts will love to be kept off it as the page is just to serve as a general information page and nothing more.

Even though there are links online, the story behind the links are quite malicious, and that is the main reason the page is created. So not including that part will be very useful, thank you. I know some information can be left off a page if wanted, and would like that information yo be left off, I am sorry for the back and forth for a while. Thank you for your understanding. Warm regards, Illmacul8 (talk) 21:00, 16 October 2018 (UTC)

why did you delete my user page?

I got rid of all the irreverent content so why did you delete it anyway? — Drowningseagull (talk) 10:38, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Possibly edit conflict. I had the page open showing an unsuitable state and deleted on the basis of that. Meanwhile you removed the irreverent content without my noticing. Partial restoration done. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 10:17, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Corrosion

Yikes sorry can you delete this page again? I re-tagged it because I didn't complete the Twinkle tagging process the first time, just as you were deleting it. It was re-created as a result. — Bennv3771 (talk) 09:18, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Bee bread

hello RHaworth, hope my message finds you well :) my story is simple: i'm an apiarist, and am not very fluent in wiki stuff... please be so kind to help me write the Bee bread article as to not face deleted :) the reason i wrote the article is to clarify a confusion found on wikipedia: when one types bee bread, one is redirected to bee pollen, which is wrong! bee bread is not bee pollen! as an apiarist i only want to set the record straight and have the article on bee bread as a stand alone article... there is very little info about bee bread online, so basically what I say/said is most likely to have been mentioned by nordic food lab on their blog http://nordicfoodlab.org/blog/2015/9/4/bee-bread ...

if you decline my request for help writing the article, please be so kind to direct me to a wikipedia editor that would like to help me, as i am having a difficult time navigating and understanding wikipedia and how it works... i thank you in advance for your help... Best regards from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, NkChl (talk) 22:36, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Although the page at nordicfoodlab.org has a compatible licence, it is far too long and waffley for a Wikipedia article - I was well into the first paragraph and still had not found a definition of the subject! I recommend you to add a short paragraph in your own words to the bee pollen article, clearly comparing and contrasting bee pollen and bee bread. It should include a link to the nordicfoodlab.org blog. Your text is still available at User:NkChl/sandbox. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 19:10, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Recreating a Deleted Page

Hello RH, hope you are doing well. I came across a page deleted by you in early 2016. Sorry, am unable to link it here but the name is "800PIZZA". I was thinking of recreating the page as this food joint has had a couple of nice media coverage articles ever since the Wikipedia page deletion. Can I have a "go" at it and ping you once it's done? Sorry to bother you with a simple query :) thought that asking the deleting administrator would be a logical step. — Csgir (talk) 12:10, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Requesting de-activation of old account

Hi, I am the editor who had previously created those sockpuppet accounts without knowing the rules about sockpuppeting which was over a year ago. The account Retiredwrestler was an account that I had made for a former wrestler friend of mine named Verne Seibert, who after I had created it said he did not want it. After I had learned that socking was against the rules I was ashamed of what I did, and have not re-offended since. I was told by the Wikipedia administrator who had blocked that account that I could have it unblocked and changed to another name and give it to a person who wants to start a Wikipedia account. I tried to do this, but I found it very difficult and won't probably be able to do it unless I can find someone who knows how to do this. Since I have made countless contributions to Wikipedia and wasn't aware of the socking policy I think I should be able to de-activate the account as I want to be able to put this all behind me now. When I tried to de-activate the account I see that you wouldn't allow this. Can you please let me de-activate the account now. If you don't let me do that the only other option which I might have is to de-activate my current account and start all over again which I don't want to do, since I have come so far on Wikipedia. I promise you that if you let me de-activate this account that I will NEVER sock again as I truly have learned my lesson, and I deserve to make amends for what I have done wrong. — Davidgoodheart (talk) 17:59, 20 October 2018 (UTC)

Marios Polycarpou

I agree with the reason you have deleted my draft page Marios Polycarpou because I didn't clarify that I am administrator of the violation page. I would like to request to undone [undo?] the deletion because I am an administrator of the page that violates the copyright policy, also I created the page as draft and I am in contact with the person of the page in order to provide me additional information or corrections about the page. My tensions ["intention"?] was to write the content with some commends [comments]. I have wrote [written] in bold and to correct the content later after the discussion with the person of the page, and then submit it for review. (I don't know if there is a way to keep the page private until I finalize the content, so please provide me a way to do this if is possible). If it's not possible to undone the deletion I would like to have the content of the deleted page in order to correct the content of the page in order to be aligned with Wikipedia's copyright policy. If that is possible let me know how I can have the content of the page. Thank you for you time, Echris08 (talk) 10:29, 21 October 2018 (UTC)

  • Apologies for late reply. Text emailed - have I now done so twice? There is a perfectly simple way to keep the page private: keep it on your own machine! To check wiki markup, copy the text into an empty Wikipedia edit box and click "show preview". If you make any changes, remember to copy back to your own machine then abandon the wiki edit. — RHaworth (talk · contribs) 09:17, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Deletion of Oval Office Tapes

Hi there, I recently created a draft of the Oval Office Tapes page and was given a week to receive the copyright to the image I used, however, I found this morning that the entire draft had been deleted. I completely understand, as there was no copyright provided for the image, but I'm requesting to have the text of draft:Oval Office Tapes restored, as I'm in the process of obtaining the rights. For the time being, I can remove the image, provided the draft is restored. Thank you so much! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgelberg007 (talkcontribs) 20:38, 23 October 2018 (UTC)
