Yom Kippur War
[edit]Hello One Last Pharaoh! I've been working on improving the October War article, adding Egyptian sourced info and so on. I have this problem I hope you could assist me in solving. Do you have an Arabic copy of Saad El Shazly's book, the Crossing of the Suez? If you have one, or can obtain one, let me know. Thanks in advance.Sherif9282 (talk) 12:23, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
- It is a pleasure to help you in your great efforts. I know a library, that i think is selling copies of books on CDs and such, however i cannot promise of being able to attain a copy of that book these weeks. Maybe a month from now, i would buy the book and if possible, send you a copy.
- I thank you for your great efforts that make me proud on a personal scale, and and that improves the whole Wikipedia project quality in general. Keep up the good work. One last pharaoh (talk) 09:32, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanks a million One Last Pharaoh!
Hope you'd join in from time to time. Alot has been added (15,000 bytes of information!) and more is still to be done. It really is very nice and rewarding to work on such a project. Thanks alot once more. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:14, 3 January 2009 (UTC)
I have a small question. How do I change the name of an article? I wanted to change the name of the article The Crossing to Operation Badr, which was the name for the Egyptian assault. I can see you're very busy so thanks alot in advance for taking the time to reply. Take care. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:51, 4 January 2009 (UTC)
- Try this article: Wikipedia:How to move a page. You can move "rename" the article your self, or you can request that to be done, and links for the illustration of both ways are provided in the article i have just nominated. I hope that that will be useful for you. One last pharaoh (talk) 19:39, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hail my Pharaoh!
I see ur still busy in real life. Thanks to you I managed to move the article about the Crossing to Operation Badr. Now I was wondering if u could participate in this AfD. Only two comments have been made and it seems to be at a standstill. I dont know any other admin around here. Thanks for ur time. Sherif9282 (talk) 12:05, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
Just out of curiosity
[edit]Have you posted at gawaher.com before? There was this person who is half-Egyptian and half-Turkish and he reminds me of you. I was just wondering if that was you... BTW, you look Arab, are you sure you don't have an Arab person somewhere in your family tree? :D --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 00:08, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- I am not the one on gawaher.com, i do not know that site any way. Egyptians were different. a national Geographic documentary suggested that Ancient Egyptians looked different from each other just like modern Egyptians; Besides that In Ancient Egypt, the person was considered Egyptian, if he lived like an Egyptian and followed the way, and the culture of the Egyptians, regardless of his/her race. One last pharaoh (talk) 08:05, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- Okay, in modern Arab nations, the person is considered Arab if he lives like an Arab and follows the way and the culture of the Arabs, regardless of his/her race. Do you just reject that modern Egyptians have Arab ancestry but are considered Arab or do you reject the Arab identity entirely? --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 18:46, 22 January 2009 (UTC)thrty----
- Both. How can egyptians have arab ancestry? One last pharaoh (talk) 21:39, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
- So you reject that Egyptians have Arab ancestry and you believe that they should not be called Arabs even if they identify as Arabs. Okay, you consider yourself having Egyptian ancestry and you claim that in ancient Egypt that a "person was considered Egyptian if he lived like an Egyptian...regardless of his/her race." So according to your logic, one can identify as Egyptian even if he isn't racially Egyptian. Now in the past 1370 years, your ancestors identified as Arab, I am not sure about your grandparents and parents, but definitely at some point you had ancestors that followed the culture of the Arabs and called themselves Arabs. Since "the person was considered Arab if he lived like an Arab...regardless of his/her race" then that must mean you have Arab ancestors as well. :D Aside from that, Muslim Arabs originating from the Arabian Peninsula did intermix with Egyptians. It wasn't a missionary mission in which they converted and left, they settled there. I am not claiming that everyone (or most) in Egypt have ancestry of Arabs from the Arabian Peninsula either, but it is certainly a possibility for many Egyptians (perhaps even you). BTW, like other people, Egyptians have ancestry from various peoples, race isn't clearly defined. Arab is an identity rather than a race. I don't see why you would reject it in the first place. I wouldn't be telling you this if you were a Copt, and it seems that you have the best interest of Muslims at heart BTW. You would not want to aid the fitna, that is, division between Egyptians and other Arabs such as this poor Yemeni here. We should find more similarities and ignore our differences insha'allah. --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 02:10, 24 January 2009 (UTC)
- I understand that the motivation behind these words might be very noble, as not to bring "elfetna" between Muslim. However, Islam is not dependent on a single identity. That would mean that according to this point of view, Arab Muslims are somehow closer brothers to Arab Muslim than non Arab Muslim. And that is not the way it should be. All Muslims are equal, and none is better than the other according to his race, or culture. That answers why there should not be a "fetna" between Arabs and Egyptians when we state the truth of our identity, and BTW there it is a very well known fact that most Arabs hate or at least do not like Egyptians.
- When i read what u stated up there, i want to say a laud Citation needed. I mean, where is the evidence behind all of these claims about that Arabs settled in Egypt? Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula, or "Arabia" -the real Arabs- are less in population than Egyptians. Currently Arabs at Arabia are about 55 millions, while Egyptians number more than 80 million; meaning that the combined population of Arabia is less than 70% of that of Egypt!
- If you have evidences for these claims, please let me know, if not, please stop believing in them.
- Ban Arabism had a political motivation, not a religious one as it's initiators claimed. Islam ended tribal wars between Arabs because now Islam unified them, not Arabism; i.e. their religion, and not their identity.
- It seems to be that you had two main points which are;
- 1- Most Egyptians have Arab ancestors; The supposition of that Arabs migrated to Egypt, and it was not only a missionary campaign, needs to be proven, besides that even if it was proven to be true, the vast majority would not have pure Arab ancestry since Egyptians interacting with various other races throughout their history, absorb these foreigners into the Egyptian community. Maybe that’s why perhaps most Egyptians have foreign ancestry when it comes to races, but all are Egyptians when it comes to identity, which in turn is not dependant on the race of the individual.
- 2- The Arab identity is a way to unify Arabs and Egyptians, two Muslim-majority communities; since Egyptians are Muslims, is not Islam enough?
- Egypt has been dependent from the rest of the Muslim world throughout its history expecting for the early periods of Islam in Egypt. There have been times very critical to Islam that it would have collapsed but for Egypt, and i think that that is more than enough for unity.
- Egyptians are the descendants of Misraim, unlike Arabs whose ancestor is Shem.
- In a matter of fact, ban Arabism failed miserably. Even now Arabians have their own cooperation council, Syria allying itself with Iran, and so on. One last pharaoh (talk) 18:16, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

- Among the Muslim world, there is diversity of languages and cultures, and that is appreciated. There is no interest on my part to have everyone who is Muslim to become Arabised and I don't think that there should be an extra special bond between Arab Muslims that can't be shared with non-Arab Muslims. In addition, the Copts are another group that retained their culture and did not Arabize, so I don't argue with them about their idenity. My problem is with Egyptians who try so desperately to force division between Egyptian Arabs (Egyptians who identify themselves as Arabs) and other Arabs. What is to them if an Egyptian says he is an Arab and that he has Arab ancestory? Why spend so much time trying to hide the links of modern Egyptians and their Arab ancestors? I am fully aware of the cyber warfare taken on by a few Egyptians to try to erase Arab from the history, culture, and the language of Egyptians. Why I am appealing to you and not to other Egyptians? Because you're a Muslim, you have the best interest of Muslims at heart - trying to cause division where there was none is fitna. That is my opinion, but I am not accusing of this fitna.
- You need sources from me to prove what you have already admitted? Yes, as I said before, Arabs settled in Egypt. BTW, Egypt population grew over the +1,000 of years, it didn't start off at 80 million when Arabs began settling there. Who knows, Arabs probably matched the Egyptians in numbers at the time they settled. Perhaps they settled in uninhabited areas of Egypt, and their population outgrew the native Egyptian population. I don't have the population figures. But the truth is settlement did happen, intermingling did happen, the acceptance of Arab culture, language and identity did happen.
-BritannicaThe population of the Nile valley and the delta, which are home to the overwhelming majority of Egyptians, forms a fairly homogeneous group whose dominant physical characteristics are the result of the admixture of the indigenous African population with those of Arab ancestry. Within urban areas (the northern delta towns especially), foreign invaders and immigrants—Persians, Romans, Greeks, Crusaders, Turks, and Circassians—long ago left behind a more heterogeneous mixture of physical types. Blond and red hair, blue eyes, and lighter complexions are more common there than in the rural areas of the delta, where peasant agriculturists, the fellahin, have been less affected by intermarriage with outside groups.
Political Islam By Nazih N. M. AyubiWhen the Arabs settled in Egypt, the Northern, more nomadic, tribes preferred the similar environment of Upper Egypt, whereas the Southern, Yemeni, more 'agricultural' tribes preferred the rich stretches of the Delta. The Arabian nomads took with them to the Sa'id their accent and their social norms, and they were more resistant to mingling into the original Egyptian population than were their relatives in the Northern part of the country. Until relatively recently the distinction in the Sa'id between Arab (i.e. Arabian of nomadic origin) and Fallah (i.e. farmer of purely Egyptian origin)
- If you are from the fellahin, then I will stop talking to you about any supposed Arab ancestry that you might have. But in any case, I will just leave you with this advice, don't spend too much convincing others that Egyptians are not Arabs. It is a minority idea being attributed to the majority, and it is hurtful to Egyptian Arabs and other Arabs. As for your claim that other Arabs hate Egyptians, it is just ridiculous, probably an idea repeated in a few minority circles. As you know, Arabs are not a monolith, if you have heard hateful remarks from Arabs about Egyptians, you should know it is from anger and not stemming from a racist hatred, and also not shared by a significant number. You should also know that a lot of Arabs love Masri culture, and I personally never heard anything said ill towards Egyptians by an Arab. --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 22:33, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- I am not underweighting your last contribution, but actually i did expect more. I mean when i saw that the page have grown up some seven mega bytes, I supposed Oh my god, the guy added seven megas! did he write a whole article?!. In another word, i think that you have just repeated what you already stated before. There are too many "what if"s! The two sources you provided suggest that foreign races have been absorbed among the Egyptian society, and that is what i stated up here. We do not have to analyze the DNA of every one carrying the Egyptian identity to see weather he/she has a pure native Egyptian ancestry with no foreign elders in order to suppose that he/she is a real Egyptian!
- What amazes me here is that you have just divided the Egyptian society into two religious groups, Copts, and Muslims, and divided the later into another two sub societies....I mean why? In order to call us Arabs?!
- You come here dividing the Egyptian community according to your own terms, talking about a cyber war, and desperate tries of hiding the truth, and supposing that i have to abandon my Egyptian identity because i am a Muslim, and give no citation what so ever for your claims, and you say that you are advising me and that i am so how trying to convince people of wrong claims?!!
- Sir, you have just crossed the line! You have no right to divide the Egyptian community, and you have no right to dismiss the Egyptian identity. I have kept going on with this discussion as long as it kept respection to my identity and to me, but you can suppose you have ended it, when you dare to suggest that Egyptians abandon their identity and divide themselves in order not to hurt the feelings of Arabs. One last pharaoh (talk) 23:19, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- BTW "As of 2008, the estimated population of the Arabian Peninsula is 77,983,936"[1] and the population of Egypt is 75,500,662 [2]. Egyptians are almost 2.5 million less than Arabs living in the Arabian Peninsula (we're not counting As-Sham either)--Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 22:47, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, in a matter of fact, i did the math, and this article [[3]], referenced to The world fact book as of 15 July 2008 is where i got my number from. The 2007-08-07 figure might be counting other nations as it is mentioned in the Geagraphy subarticle with a map showing that the geagraphical definition is wider than the political definition? Any way, here is the source for the Egyptian population [[4]]. One last pharaoh (talk) 23:32, 25 January 2009 (UTC)
- I stopped reading after "In order to call us Arabs?!." I was civil in my discourse with you, I didn't twist your words or place words in your mouth, like you have in just the first few sentences. I am done here. --Falastine fee Qalby (talk) 23:56, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

- Give me a break! the article is less than one day old, and there is still much to be done. One last pharaoh (talk) 16:54, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey Pharoah, looks like the article deletion tag has been removed. Good job finding out about this APC, I wonder how you do that. I'll see if I can help expand the article. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:11, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW, are u more free in ur time these days? Sherif9282 (talk) 20:22, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
- Yes, i have finally finished the exams, but i still have to study french in order to be able to study in it next term God's will. So i am more free these days :) One last pharaoh (talk) 20:26, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Congrats ya man! Hope u make isa. I myself have some exams coming up.
Take a look at this truck: Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Maybe this is the truck refered to in the Fahd-240 article. There is another armored car made on the basis of this truck, and made by the same designer of the Fahd-240: Thyssen Henschel UR-416. Sherif9282 (talk) 03:40, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Interesting! If that was shown to be true, it would be a nice piece of information in the description section, i think. One last pharaoh (talk) 11:03, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Could u please nominate Fahd-240 for the DYK page? The article is great and deserves to be DYK. Your contribution is great and resourceful. If u want to have a precaution against speedy deletion, add {tl|underconstruction}} to the article's top.
Thank u very much for improving the Egypt related Article.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 10:14, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you very much :)
- I too think that the article deserves nomination for DYK, but maybe after a little bit more work to put the article in an even better form. One last pharaoh (talk) 10:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Submission to DYK is allowed only five days from the creation of the article for nomination. Don't worry the page will be added to the mainpage maybe seven days later or more. Criteria for DYK isn't that the article is long, just that it's new and needs collaboration. Time is short so don't forget to post it as early as possible. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:04, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Archive please
[edit]I suggest u archive your talk page. It is becoming realy long. --Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 10:16, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- I would like to, but actually i do not know how to do so :D. Would you please explain it briefly for me? Thanx in advance. One last pharaoh (talk) 11:01, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- U have to add {{archive box}} to the top of the page with the archives name after a vertical line example:|Archive1 |Archive 2.... I did the archive box for u and now you can cut whatever u want to it to clear up your talk page. This can also be done automatically but it didn't work for me. Further info is at Wikipedia:Archiving.--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- I moved all messages before 2009 to the archive--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 14:57, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Fahd-240
[edit]Hey One Last Pharoah I suggest moving that article. I think we should just name it Fahd (APC} or Fahd (IFV), and then mention variants, such as the Fahd-240 in the article itself. I'm not sure if the Fahd qualifies as an APC or an IFV, but I'd go for Armored Personnel Carrier. Sherif9282 (talk) 15:09, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- At the beginning i thought that the old version was called Fahd-240, and that the 280 designation is for an upgraded version, but i have read a Jane report calling the Fahd-240 the latest member of the Fahd family. So i agree we can rename it Fahd Armoured Personnel Carrier, because the first variant was originally and APC, like in case of the M113 article. One last pharaoh (talk) 15:19, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW, great work with the October war. I was planning to make it a surprise, but here it goes; wait for the barnstar :D One last pharaoh (talk) 15:22, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
The Fahd-240 is an upgrade of the Fahd, and the Fahd 280-30 is even a further upgrade in terms of armament. I moved the article to Fahd Armor Personnel Carrier.
Wow man! That barnstar would really mean something! I devoted a lot of time to that article; it's the first time I took an article so seriously and I'm really impressed with it now. Thanx alot man! :D Sherif9282 (talk) 17:11, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey, tell you what. Before making anymore additions to the article we need to reorganize the references. Sherif9282 (talk) 17:59, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, i leave that to you. BTW, prepar your self for two surprises ;) One last pharaoh (talk) 18:10, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Bring them on. :D Sherif9282 (talk) 18:58, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Considering that the Fahd article is only two days old, it's looking pretty good already. Did you nominate it for DYK? Sherif9282 (talk) 19:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- I did, but i think i did it wrong. Please do it. I think that that's it for me today; perhaps i will have finished what i want in the article by tomorrow god's will. One last pharaoh (talk) 19:55, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey I noticed something. In the picture of the Kuwaiti Fahd, I can see a machine gun that looks like the M60 machine gun. The UN Fahd's also have machine guns that differ from the PK machine gun mentioned in the article; they look more like M249 squad automatic weapon or FN Minimi. Or it could be the M240 machine gun. I'm not sure about the weapon used on the UN Fahd. Can you confirm? Also, what about the Mercedes Benz truck? I can't find the chassis anywhere. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:12, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
- Infact, i even noticed that on another picture of an Egyptian Fahd, the commander was operating an FN MAG. The official sites do not specify the type of the machine gun, it only stated it's caliber, and the FN MAG uses the mentioned caliber. So maybe it is that the FN MAG is used on versions without the BMP-2 turret (on the commander hatch side), and that the PK, and PKM machine guns mentioned by other source(s) were meaning the secondary armament of the BMP-2 turret. BTW, we produce the FN MAG under license (see Egyptian Army, Light weapons), so that makes sense.
- I do not know about the truck, i did not find the name of the truck used by the Fahd in the wikipedia article, but i found vehicles with a very similar set of wheels to the Fahd. One last pharaoh (talk) 20:28, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
I suppose we should change the info in the article then. If you can't do it now, I'll do it tomorrow then; I'm done myself for today. About the truck, I was talking about the Mercedes-Benz Unimog. Maybe you can google search to check it out. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:38, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey man. I changed the bit about the machine gun caliber. By the way, I think you did the DYK correctly, although the article's name has changed from the one you wrote on the DYK page. Also, weren't there several pictures in the article, such as the Kuwaiti Fahd and the UN Fahd? What happened to them? Sherif9282 (talk) 12:22, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Diaa removed the countries, and organizations sections, so they were gone with the text. I have just reverted his edit but i had to revert yours as well. One last pharaoh (talk) 13:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I removed the info about the turret in the anti riot section because it I already mentioned it under the Fahd 240 section. By the way, I think that the current Fahd's are all either 240/280s or 280-30; the original Fahd's must have been upgraded to these ones. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:52, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- I think that these informations belong to the section of the anti-riot variant. They should not exist in the APC variants sections
If you checked the factory's website, the Fahd with the BTM-208 turret was not specified as an Anti-Roit variant. It was mentioned under the other variants, implying that the turret could be added to them (the website is very poor unfortunately).
- I meant Kader Factory web site [5] it has six different links for six different variants where the one with the BTM-208 turret is one of them. I cannot find any information about the mine laying version any where, i think maybe we could find some thing useful in the mines section in the AOI website. One last pharaoh (talk) 20:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Also, check out the article about the Kuwaiti Army. It shows the army's post-war equipment. This includes 100 Fahd 280 (I think it means 280-30). This might mean that the Fahd's captured by Iraq were returned to Kuwait, and then we upgraded them to Fahd 280-30. What do you think? Sherif9282 (talk) 20:52, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Forget about that article, it is very poor. i have seen the PDF file provided there, and made some changes in accordance. One last pharaoh (talk) 21:07, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I know you were talking about the Kader Factory website. It does not specify that the variant with the BTM-208 turret is the anti riot variant. It only says With BTM-208 turret. That's it. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- I know, Sherif. My point is that the vehicle with that turret is an independent variant, so we should mention the specifications of the turret is this variants section, not in the APC section. Other sites that talked about the "small/light turret variant" stated that it can use a water cannot instead, and other equipments such as the steel grader is stated to be for anit-riot rule, and shown in the photograph for the BTM-208 turret by the kader site. One last pharaoh (talk) 21:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
BTW this article states that Kuwait's post-war purchases included Yugoslav, American, Russian and Egyptian armored vehicles. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, that can serve the article as another source for Kuwait pruchasing extra Fahds after the war. Nice finding :D One last pharaoh (talk) 21:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Thanx. What about the anti-riot variant? I really think the info about the BTM-208 turret should be added to the Fahd 240 section. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:37, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Ignore that question, I didn't read ur post. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:40, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
The thing is that, as you said yourself, the small turret variant can be fitted with a water cannon instead. The anti-riot variant would never have a turret fitted with the 12.7 and 7.62 mm machine guns mentioned on the factory website; that variant is not used for killing people, only for dispersing riots. That's why I said that the turret, and information about it should be mentioned under the Fahd 240. That variant would definitely use machine guns. As for the anti-riot variant, we simply write that the turret is fitted with a water cannon instead of machine guns. Sherif9282 (talk) 21:51, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Well, how about giving it the name the factory web site gave? The water cannon application possibility is mentioned in the section already, and upgrading with a light turret possibility is mentioned in the Fahd-240 section, so all we have to do is renaming the section, giving it the name the factory originally called in it's web site, and we get out of this confusion. What do you think?
- BTW, there is only one variant left....aaaaaand the race starts, let the
best(fastest) man win:D. One last pharaoh (talk) 22:02, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
One more thing. I found this website, hosting pictures taken of the Kuwaiti military last year. You will find at least 2 pictures of the Fahd there, which can only mean it is still in service with the Kuwaiti Army. Sherif9282 (talk) 22:00, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Let's rain the article with these sourcesOne last pharaoh (talk) 22:02, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Well man, looks like I won. Hehehe... Alright. I'm going to reorganize the article. Hey, I've noticed some articles referring to the Fahd 240 as the 280 (without any turret) and vice versa. So I'm going to change the article to suit that.Sherif9282 (talk) 22:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
I added some new info based on the Egyptian Army article. That's it for me today man, I'm really tired ;).Sherif9282 (talk) 22:39, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- LOL me too! I was wandering around seeing where i can make a small contribution before i log off, but seams that any more improvements should be radical generally. My plan is to add a new section to the Design characteristics subtitle talking about armament, mentioning all armament systems used in different variants with talking a little bit about the weapons it self. like the M1 Abrams article where information about armament systems it self (not how it fits, or how many ammo the vehicle carry for them) are taking a nice part of the article. Also a Protection section talking about the protection levels, and a little bit technical information about welded steel and sloped armour. Finally, additional images should make the article look better. If all of that is done, i hope enough users will vote for the article for featured article status. BTW, the official site stated that the machine guns uses the 7.62x51mm caliber, and that is a NATO calliber, so that's one more hit for the FN MAG. One last pharaoh (talk) 22:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- Incredible how much progress can be made in a mere matter of 3/4 days. You should feel really proud of urself; it was a great job finding out about that APC :D Sherif9282 (talk) 22:43, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
- You too! (That's why i told you to prepare your self for two surprises, but the one for the Fahd will be more than a barnstar God's will :D) One last pharaoh (talk) 22:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
If you're aiming for FA status then we'll also have to provide more inline citations. You should take a look at other APC articles to get an idea of how you should outline the article (as you did with the M1 Abrams article) Sherif9282 (talk) 22:01, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
Hey Pharaoh, I made a major find! Here's the link to the mine dispensing system on the Fahd. I'll leave them to you. Sherif9282 (talk) 05:14, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
I think we can try to nominate that article for GA status on the military history and Egypt projects. Yes? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sherif9282 (talk • contribs) 11:37, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- Of Course, but i am not familiar with how to do so. just nominate is, and give me the link, so that i give my voice. I think that it takes three votes for approval, so it wont be hard i think.
I found this website with info on the Fahd exports. When I tried to add the source to the article, a spam filter removed it because it was a blacklisted hyperlink?!?! What does that mean? Sherif9282 (talk) 16:29, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
- I had to repeat this replay several times. You probably mean ARMY GUID. The black list is supposed to be protecting wikipedia from spammers, and do not ask me how :). We can request the pages about the Fahd be whitelisted.
- BTW, i have nominated the article for GA status. One last pharaoh (talk) 16:59, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
New Article!
[edit]Alright then, the Fahd has reached a respectable status so far, so I created a new article. This is the first article I created. It's about the Egyptian Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Gathered several sources so far and working on adding them to the article. Sherif9282 (talk) 20:21, 29 January 2009 (UTC)
- Nice shot, omigo. :D
Fahd GA nominations
[edit]Hey man, I've got alot of suggestions, especially about the comparison. First of all, the Fahd isn't exactly better armed; all the APCs u mentioned except the Stryker can have variants with cannons and missiles. Secondly, you can't compare them together because there are many variants. In the table for example, you mentioned the Fahd's armament of a cannon, MG and missile, and then you write the passenger capacity is 10, even though the capacity of the Fahd 280 30 is only 7. It's just going to be confusing to readers. If you're going to compare it you'll also have to mention that it does not have amphibious ability, that it has less armor, and that, compared to the Stryker for example, it has less computers and electronic equipment. Sherif9282 (talk) 04:01, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- I thought so. I am planning to make another one regarding only the Fahd-280-30 variant with other wheeled IFVs, and modify the present comparison so that it is talking about the Fahd APC variant compared with other wheeled APCs (aka. excluding the BTR-90 and the LAV-25). The Fahd has amphibious abilities dude. I think that the Fahd is better armed than most of the others. I meant with the statement that when compared with another contemporary vehicle, the Fahd would provide similar abilities, and would be better in one or more ability. One last pharaoh (talk) 07:59, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wow, I have never seen an article about anything in Egypt THAT good! It can definitely be a GA article in the Egypt WikiProject. However I don't know about the Military history WikiProject. I will inspect the article further tomorrow and see if anything needs to be modified.
- On a separate note, I really wish you could improve more articles about Egypt, I am willing to help you. If you are interested tell me which articles we can start with. Cheers, Abdallah (talk) 10:55, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you! I have put much effort into this article, and i hope it will get approved for FA status one day (the sooner the better :D). I am very happy with your will to help me on articles, since i do need that. Currently, my major effort is on the Fahd; I am going to tell you, when i shift to another god's will. One last pharaoh (talk) 20:42, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- However, I think the article's name should be "Fahd armored personnel carrier" or "Fahd (armored personnel carrier)"; as per Wikipedia naming conventions. Abdallah (talk) 11:29, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
This discusion should take place on the article's talk page. Sherif9282 (talk) 13:20, 1 February 2009 (UTC)
- About the images dispute, you can take the permission of the person who uploaded them from Flickr. Abdallah (talk) 13:45, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- They are already uploaded under the creative commons license, we do not need additional permission. We need your voice. just vote for keeping the images, if you agree. I think that the iraqi destroyed Fahds can be uploaded from that howitzer.com or whatever as a work of a US army employee, and there for is in the public domain. One last pharaoh (talk) 14:31, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Help needed
[edit]Hey man, can u categorize the Egyptian Infantry Fighting Vehicle for me? I don't know how to do it. Sherif9282 (talk) 11:37, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Question
[edit]How's your assignment going?
I have a question for you. I want to know how many edits (aside minor edits) I made so far, and I want to calculate the size of information I added to the Yom Kippur War. Do you know a way to do this? Sherif9282 (talk) 14:42, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- For the assignment.....well, it did not go as expected. The presentation was supposed to be presented by three persons including the maker (moi). We did not have enough time to finish it properly, and it ended up being presented by only one of us (not moi), which in turns made it much weaker than planned to. What makes me not very sad is that only one of "the big five" showed up; The professor responsible for the whole french department did not come, the professor responsible for "La filière" did not come, and so on. Finally, the French professor whom we were making the presentation for turned out to be not very useful at the moment at least, and there was no urgent need to impress him. Yet, the effort done was not a total miss, as people impressed their admiration.
- Now for the editing activity; click My contribution to go to your user contributions page, in which you should find a wide bar having , and your user name. Click Edit and action count, and see the magic :D. One last pharaoh (talk) 15:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
Sorry to hear about ur assignment, wish u better luck with the next presenation.
Ur answer helped me, but I was hoping for a little more, specificaly I wanted to find the size of info (in bytes) I added to articles. Sherif9282 (talk) 17:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- Sorry, but i guess that you would have to see the article's history, and count them your self. One last pharaoh (talk) 17:33, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think that you do not have to do that. I mean, the number of the edits is enough, and what really matters is not how much, or how many times you edit; the real value of your contributions is not measured by bytes. If you want to know how much progress you've really made, see the version of the article before you started editing, and the version of the same article after you are finished. Compare the two versions together, and let it be known that but for you, the progress on such article would have never been done. One last pharaoh (talk) 21:53, 3 February 2009 (UTC)
DYK Problems
[edit]Your recent nomination for DYK has some problems. Please adress them so it can be on the DYK page. Here is the link: Template_talk:Did_you_know#Articles_created.2Fexpanded_on_January_26--Diaa abdelmoneim (talk) 11:53, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanx very much. I have suggested another hook. I have also created a new section in the talk page for hook suggestions. One last pharaoh (talk) 16:43, 4 February 2009 (UTC)
ummm
[edit]Once your hook has been chosen to go to next update then it is considered poor practice to interfere or reverse the choice of the person who did the choosing. Your change also damaged the hook. I have moved it to a holding bay until others have resolved this Victuallers (talk) 14:32, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- The reason i did so was that the hook moved was an old version that does not satisfy the rules. It was not mentioned in the article. so i replaced it with the last version i suggested in the template, which is both mentioned, and cited in the article. I have a question; would admins still check the compatibility of the hook with the rules after it is moved to the next update page?, and the current version is more than 200 characters long, would that affect any thing?. One last pharaoh (talk) 14:41, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
Photos
[edit]It's really bad all those Fahd photos were deleted. Here's link though. It shows pics taken of the Kuwaiti army in a parade, and it has at least three Fahd pics. I believe the pictures were taken by the user who uploaded them. The website is probably something like Flickr. So I think this makes the photos available to the public domain, no?Sherif9282 (talk) 17:53, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- The copy right for these images is "all rights reserved", meaning that the uploader is saying "Stay away fromma picos !" i.e. No can do omigo. I tried to contact the uploader to ask for permission to publish the images in wikipedia; Picasa web is part of google i.e. you have to have a Gmail (google mail) account ,because that would be your picasa account. The problem is that the uploader does not provide his gmail address, so i do not know his email. I have added two comments for two pictures, asking him for permission, and providing my gmail address, and the link to my wikipedia talk page, yet there is not response. --One last pharaoh (talk) 14:50, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for File:Agriculture college of alex.jpg}
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:Agriculture college of alex.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Hey Man
[edit]I see the Wiki bot is a fan of yours, filling your whole talk page with thank you for uploading... fan letters. Just kiddin dude, hehehee...
I'm almost finished with the October War. It's now over 100 KB. Just a (another) disagreement to work out between men and Raul654 (again...), and then I'm done. I've got school exams so I wont be visiting the Wiki for about a week. After the exams I'll finish with the Badr article and see if I can get it to Good Article at least.
Then I don't know... I think I'll be contributing to the WWII Mediterranean Campaign! I've got a huge book with me about the subject, and I could put it good use and try to bring a few articles up to FA status. I just don't know what else about Egypt I could write...
You know I'm really disappointed with the WikiProject Egypt. There aren't any articles under collaboration aside the Cairo Metro, and generally the members themselves arent very active. I've posted a note in the Photo Requests section 11 days ago and recieved no reply. I told Diaa, the project coordinator, about this article: Women in Egypt, but looks like he ignored my message and gave me no reply at all. I might as well just take my name of the members list man!
I heard the Picasa guy allowed the use of 3 photos! Hope they're added soon. Yalla ya man... Good luck wiz ur college. Sherif9282 (talk) 18:00, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I was wondering if you could help me with those books about the October War if you're more free nowadays. Sherif9282 (talk) 18:02, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

Little presents from Fahd
[edit]When you copy or rework the table from the article Fahd (armored personnel carrier) and add it to other armored vehicles, you often forget the world "url=" in front of the reference for "BTR-3U" and "Type-92 IFV". Hello Pharaoh!
How everything going? You haven't been around for quite some time.
I've just created the Mansoura Air Battle article. The problem is it has just one source. Do you have the Pheonix Over the Nile book? If you do, could you please add it as a source to the article? (I assume the book includes an account of the battle). If you have any additional sources, all the better.

october war
[edit]I have been trying to edit the october war article (the part were refuse to remove Israeli tactical victory and refuse to add Egyptian strategic and political victory). At the end of the war after the first and second engagement Egypt held more territory and controlled the Suez Canal while israel had lost territory so its supposed to be a strategic victory for Egypt(supported by many sources). As for the casualties comparison I have many sources that claim that the Israeli sources in percentage terms was more than the Arabs. According to William Burr it was equivalent to 200,000 losses in the US army. Here are my sources all Six Part BBC documentary which is supposed to be a neutral source clearly states and I quote "It is hard to say whose the clear victor of this war" and that Egyptian side was the side that gained the most. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XztQ28ZUXs0 Here is also the link to part6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EHpzPCGp1Ek&feature=related —Preceding unsigned comment added by Omarello2 (talk • contribs) 07:07, 9 September 2010 (UTC) Here is a link that to the national security archieve which states that the israeli 2600 soldiers in percentage was equivalent to 200,000 Americans. http://www.gwu.edu/~nsarchiv/NSAEBB/NSAEBB98/index.htm an article by Pierre Tristam that describe in details The Egyptian/Syrian-Israeli Disengagement Treaties of 1974 and 1975. http://middleeast.about.com/od/arabisraeliconflict/a/me080421.htm I tried to contact the moderator to replace Israeli tactical victory with military stalemate or at least at that Egypt strategically and politically won the war but he did not respond. "Political and strategic gains for Israel and Egypt" is misleading because israel lost territory to Syria (Quneitra) and lost parts of sinai to Egypt including the Suez Canal. --Omarello2 (talk) 08:34, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

File copyright problem with File:One Last pharaoh.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading File:One Last pharaoh.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 23:01, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]can you please tell me how do you make the colored operators map ? and what's the right license tag ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zo3a (talk • contribs) 12:46, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
- Hi, Zo3a, and welcome to wikipedia.
- it would be a pleasure to help u as much as i can, so feel free to ask about anything u want to know more about.
- now there is a GNU Free Documentation License image that is a blank world map; here
- being under that license means u can copy, distribute and/or modify it.
- All u need to do is simply taking that image, opening it with Paint, and using the Fill with color tool to fill any color u want to any country. That's the way i did it.
- I hope that was helpful. Regards :D ( ΡHARAOH The Muslim 19:21, 11 April 2011 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Sally Zahran hegab.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading File:Sally Zahran hegab.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Calmer Waters 05:01, 24 April 2011 (UTC)

North Yemen Civil War
[edit]My edition to this article, I do not consider funny or an act of vandalism on my part. This is a fact I added because I visited Imam Ahmeds Taizz palace, which is now a museum and have seen the mask, which is on display, along with his bed, adorned with coloured lights to scare off any superstitious assassin and numerous empty whiskey bottles which he indulged himself with.

1RR on all articles related to the Arab-Israeli conflict
[edit]WARNING: ACTIVE ARBITRATION REMEDIES
All articles relating to the Arab–Israeli conflict are currently subject to active arbitration remedies, as laid out during a 2008 Arbitration case, and supplemented by community consensus in November 2010. The current restrictions are:
- All articles related to the Arab-Israeli conflict broadly construed are under WP:1RR (one revert per editor per article per 24 hour period). When in doubt, assume it is related.
- Clear vandalism, or edits by anonymous IP editors, may be reverted without penalty
- Editors who violate this 1RR restriction may be blocked without warning by any uninvolved administrator, even on a first offence.
- After being warned, any editor who repeatedly or seriously fails to adhere to the purpose of Wikipedia, any expected standards of behavior, or any normal editorial process may be blocked up to one year, topic-banned, further revert-restricted, or otherwise restricted from editing.
- Reports of editors violating any of these restrictions should be made to either the Arbitration enforcement or Edit warring noticeboards.
If you are a new editor, or an editor unfamiliar with the situation, please follow the above guidelines. You may also wish to review the arbitration case page. If you are unsure if your edit is appropriate, discuss it here on this talk page first. When in doubt, don't revert. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.71.23.234 (talk) 19:07, 26 August 2011 (UTC)

Call for Wikipedians in Residence in Africa
[edit]Hello,
I hope you are well and thriving!! WikiAfrica has just put out a call for two Wikipedians in Residence. One in Cape Town at WikiAfrica, at the Africa Centre; and the other for WikiAfrica Cameroon in Douala, at doual’art. If you are interested, please contact either Marilyn [marilyn.doualabelldoualart.org] for the WikiAfrica Cameroon call or Isla [islahfafricacentre.net] for the WikiAfrica position in Cape Town.
If you are not interested in applying, I would be very grateful if you could spread this call far and wide among your networks to ensure that both projects get excellent candidates. Here is the link for the information page: http://www.wikiafrica.net/two-wikipedians-in-residence-for-africa/
Best regards, Islahaddow

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Exodus: Gods and Kings, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Telegraph. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Tendentious editing
[edit]I do not have the energy nor the time to deal with such editing, so I won't edit-war this out. But I won't keep tolerating this any further. One more edit like that and I'm taking you to the appropriate noticeboard, if this is what it takes to make you understand that Wikipedia is not your POV playground. Fitzcarmalan (talk) 10:52, 24 April 2015 (UTC)
- WOW ! slow down. what's wrong ? Assume good faith. I again advice you to re-read wikipedia guidelines on editing. To name a few in this message alone, it's not yours to tolerate, you should assume good faith, you should not edit-war. Furthermore, you should not remove an entire section overnight without any note or discussion on the talk page, you should not war other editors about wikipedia rules, you should take appropriate action whenever needed and not war about doing so.
- Please re-think your next edits, because my day off is Monday, and I would love to find out that you fully understand that wikipedia articles are not subject to personal POVs, that they should not be built upon disputes but rather collaboration, and that as an editor you should not have to "tolerate" or warn other editors. Again, PLEASE, understand that. Mahmood 11:14, 24 April 2015 (UTC)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Egyptian military history
[edit]Hi Mahmood, I thought you might be interested in joining the recently started WikiProject Egyptian military history. As the name suggests, the purpose of the project is to increase cooperation between editors involved in the vast subject area of Egypt's military history, share sources and ideas, and spearhead efforts to create missing articles and improve existing ones. We just started a week ago and hope to improve the project in the coming weeks and months. If you're interested, you could add your username to the members list, and feel free to add to any of the sections on the homepage regarding "Missing articles", "Tasks" and "Resources".
On a side note, I'd like to apologize for my behavior the last time we interacted, which was also the last time you made an edit on Wikipedia. Looking at your contributions history here suggests that you were were a decent editor, and I'd feel really bad if I was the one who drove you out with my attitude. I tend to be like that sometimes (usually when I'm in a bad off-wiki mood), and I assure you it was nothing personal. Please accept my sincere apologies and do consider coming back. Cheers, Fitzcarmalan (talk) 20:24, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Contests
[edit]User:Dr. Blofeld has created Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/Contests. The idea is to run a series of contests/editathons focusing on each region of Africa. He has spoken to Wikimedia about it and $1000-1500 is possible for prize money. As someone who has previously expressed interest in African topics, would you be interested in contributing to one or assisting draw up core article/missing article lists? He says he's thinking of North Africa for an inaugural one in October. If interested please sign up in the participants section of the Contest page, thanks.♦ --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:35, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

March Madness 2017
[edit]G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:
- tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
- updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
- creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.
As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.
The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.
The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.
For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting
[edit]As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

[edit]Greetings,
"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. --TheImaCow (talk) 19:49, 19 January 2021 (UTC)
