Ideas
[edit]- Basic data tracking: To date, there are (only) 200 links to a credo.com site and 50 mentions of Credo Reference by name in our references or external links.
- Citation examples: Offer guidelines for how to cite Credo properly, listing credo as a (subscription required) publisher
- Source availability notification: Create a page, or integrate with current pages, that lists Credo's sources and which editors have access to them
- Account use feedback: Create a page where editors can talk about their experiences using Credo, listing successes as well as what they wish was different
- Account holder communication: We can message all 400 Credo account holders to remind them of their accounts, ask for feedback, encourage future use, or give instructions for relinquishing their account if they think someone else could use it more effectively
- Other options would involving opening up a new round of applications for accounts, which may or may not be something you're looking at doing at this time.

[edit]- As a Wikipedia user I like the idea of giving good directions on the proper way to site resources which are generally located behind a firewall. I see a lot of inconsistency in this regard.
- I also like the idea of promoting a 're-up' of editors who can access this online reference library. When we set up this first set of users we were careful to have some criteria to select those who would be invited. Erik Moeller may remember better than I what we came up with but it was set to focus on the editors who have some longevity and some level of productivity.
- I've not communicated much to the set of editors with access as I did not want to bother them with spam, but once a year message of some sort seems reasonable.
- I'd favor some survey-monkey-sort of poll that could obtain input from them for which are the best 100 titles to add to their online library.
- I've not developed an opinion about whether to first select a re-furbished list of editors and then survey the new group on the new titles to add? Or to somehow have the process of surveying a larger group be a way in which to generate more interest in being a member of those with access. I'd only offer up titles that could, in fact, be chosen. We just want to limit how many we add at this point.
- And relevant to the proper-way-to-cite question we now have 10Ks of "topic pages" which are open to the web. This could be cited as open web content (though not with creative-commons rights).
- I can bring to the meeting next week some of the usage stats over the past year to show how much this resource has been used.
- One thing that we discussed when we set up this resource for experienced Wikipedian editors was to have it live behind a firewall that Wikimedia managed. That would save us from the administrative tasks of adding and deleting users from this resource. Someone at Wikipedia investigated the option of an open source "referral URL" solution that could implement a firewall to control access, but that was not pursued. Perhaps it is a time to revisit that question.
- I'd be willing to personally invite other publishers and aggregators to provide content to an experienced-Wikipedian-editor-site but only if there were similar controls that publishers expect from libraries that they serve. I can't vouch for how many would take up my suggestion but I'd be glad to make the effort.
Other ideas
[edit]- Online library seems like a good model.
- For a library of around 500 subscribers, usage is pretty good.
- Hundreds of new titles.
- Subject encyclopedias - "Encyclopedia of finance in the 19th Century in the US"
- Ready reference /quick facts hasn't been their focus
- Biographical titles
- This would expand from 250 to 350 titles.
- Pick 200 that are likely to be substantive - not easily found other places. Winnow that down to 100 new titles.
- Chance to re-up the list.
- Around 350 accounts already set up.
- IF we set up a portal for authentication, John is willing to go to the publishers and push for their independent participation.
- Chris is working this on our side (for OAUTH / OPENID). We could have some cycles later in the year to build this out.
- Wikimedia-reference Mailing list. - Can we get this re-energized?
- Credo Reference Pages (they're out in front of the firewall).

[edit]- It seems like an important next step is for me to provide you with a list of the ~200 titles from which 100 can be selected for adding to the current online library available to the select group of Wikipedian editors.
- It would be great if you could help develop the process by which:
- 1. Editors are asked to vote on which titles they want access to;
- 2. A 're-up' of editors so that those who don't use it can drop off and new ones can be added.
- It would be great if we could already have these two above steps competed by then so we can publicize it.
- Wikimania this year?
Survey Poll
[edit]Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:
- Link to Survey (should take between 5-10 minutes): http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/N8FQ6MMu
At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through [[WP:RESOURCE|WikiProject Resource Exchange). If you have any questions, you can leave me a note on my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 20:28, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

- Nicolabel. I contribute to it:wikipedia on a daily basis since 2005, and have about 10.000 edits, 5.000 of whose in ns-0 (ref.). This makes me one of the most active Italian contributors. As to content-related edits, my primary interests relate to improving existing pages, instead of focusing on one in particular so as to candidate it as a featured article. However, I often collaborate in assessing candidate articles. I belong to the it.wiki autopatrolled usergroup from its setting up. But the closest of those two is a 14-mile (23 km) drive, which at current fuel prices I do not make casually. Daniel Case (talk) 14:26, 30 March 2011 (UTC)

- Grillo (talk) 19:14, 24 March 2011 (UTC) I don't meet the requirement for activity in FA/GA nominations, since that is not a big priority on my home wiki svwp. Otherwise I have been constantly active since November 2004 and have written and improved many articles since then. Most of my contributions are translations from enwp, and much time goes into checking sources used here. It's annoying when that's impossible because of online references. I am not enrolled in any university, since I have finished my education. I have not been very active for the last month or so, but my activity has been constant for all the previous years. I have, for example, spent much time with articles on svwp about countries, cities and islands, primarily. It's hard to examplify because the contributions are so spread over time and not focused on single articles (I think breadth is more important than FA's, especially on a stub filled wiki like mine). I'd love an account if there are any left.
- The requirement is GF/FA or regular content contribution or article creation you can document or active membership in wikiprojects which are content oriented. If you've created many articles on your home wiki(s), put a list of those somewhere on your user page on those wikis and link to it from here, and that should be sufficient. Two of my artist pages became DYK's and several others were included in DYK's after I updated them. Since starting this project, the number of pages in the Category:Dutch Golden Age painters has grown from less than 200 to over 500. I have access to Highbeam Research through work and other resources through my local library, but if there are accounts available, it never hurts to have another tool to use to verify stuff and do good research. - UncleDouggie (talk · contribs · count) – #1 no access; #2 yes; #3 over 12 months total, but only 8 of the last 12; #4 about half of 3000 article space edits are expansion, sourcing or review; #5 major contributor to Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, which is getting close to a GA nomination + several other articles that I hope to get up to GA status, such as Soybean, on which I fixed dozens of references + major work on references for several technology related articles. —UncleDouggie (talk) 05:29, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- SchreyP (talk · contribs · count) - I'm mainly active in checking/adding references for biographies and awards. Not compliant yet with the last three requirements, but it would help me a lot to improve my contributions with this access. -- SchreyP (talk) 06:42, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Donarreiskoffer (talk · contribs · count) I do not meet requirement 5, but I have been a regular contributor since 2003 with over 10000 edits on wikipedia and nearly 10000 on commons, lately more active on the Dutch wikipedia. -Donar Reiskoffer (talk) 09:25, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Apterygial (talk · contribs · count) Just short on the edit count, and just getting back into Wikipedia, but I have five FAs and five GAs to my name, and a modest number of article creations and DYKs. Apterygial talk 10:42, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Pgallert (talk · contribs · count), slightly short of 3000 non-minor edits to main space (en + de + a few more). 27 DYK, 1 GA, 130+ created articles. --Pgallert (talk) 13:45, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Abductive (talk · contribs · count). I have a diverse collection of interests and of articles created/improved. Over 16,000 edits and 55 articles created. Abductive (reasoning) 13:48, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- Soap (talk · contribs · count) I've been here for five years, but my article creation record is mediocre. However, I could do much better if I had access to scientific literature such as Elsevier and Wiley Scientific. Total edit count Articles created (the second link may load slowly). —Soap— 17:14, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- dankarl (talk · contribs · count) I've been editing about two years. In that time I've created two largish articles essentially solo, one medium article as a collaboration, two short articles and one longish stub. I've made more-than-incidental contributions to another 23 articles, including six major expansions or rewrites. I've never been a nominator but I contributed appreciably to Voyage of the Karluk which made FA. I tend to prefer the research-intensive articles. I do not have public-library or remote-login access to Credo. Dankarl (talk) 22:12, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- codrinb (talk · contribs · count) At this time, I have only 2000 article edits out of a total of 4500 edits and although joined in 2007, I don't have 12 continuous months of contributions. Over the last 4 months I've become very active, creating WikiProject Dacia and WikiProiectul Dacia (creator), along with a large amount of Dacia-related articles. I also contributed a good amount of high quality images to commons and insured proper descriptions and licenses. Here is the list of my major contributions. I am actively involved in bringing some of my articles to DYK and GA. Thanks.--Codrin.B (talk) 14:40, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
Verification comments
[edit]Credo Reference [235] (formerly Xrefer) has generously agreed to donate 100 free user accounts to Wikipedians on a first come, first served basis. These are not trial accounts: they're full "Credo 250" accounts intended to help you in your day-to-day research as Wikipedia editors. The accounts provide access to a total of more than two million entries from countless reference works (see the full list of titles available). There are no strings attached.
The process for distributing these accounts was concluded in March 2010, and the archived record of it can be found below. If you expected to receive an account but have not received it yet, please email <erik at wikimedia dot org>.
Participants in this program were asked whether they would like to join a public, Wikimedia-hosted discussion list to report issues, request new reference sources, explore new partnership ideas, etc. This discussion list is WikimediaReference-l, and it continues to be open for subscription and is publicly archived.
The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
To be eligible for a free account, you need to have made at least 600 article namespace edits, and you need to have been a Wikipedia editor for at least six months. You aren't allowed to share your account with anyone, and you aren't allowed to plagiarize the copyrighted content from those reference works. It's a research tool only.
To get an account:
- Count your edits to check your eligibility;
- Complete the application form;
- Sign your username below.
Please perform the steps in this order. If you're eligible and among the first 100, we will email your account information to you shortly.
UDPATE: As we've exceeded 100 accounts, sign-up is now closed. Please continue to help validate the sign-ups below by flagging ineligible accounts on the talk page. Also, could applicants who possess a library card check that they do not already have access to Credo via their library. Thank you :-)
