Welcome to Wikipedia, Barras! I am Pmlinediter and have been editing Wikipedia for quite some time. I just wanted to say hi and welcome you to Wikipedia! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page or by typing {{helpme}} at the bottom of this page. I love to help new users, so don't be afraid to leave a message! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

Jim Braden

The vandalisation of my Jim Braden article was done by user RadioFan who has yet to cite the section of the article that he alleges is plagarized. I am currently building the article with additional info and request that the deletion be removed as I suspect it was added out of spite. All this pettyness makes it very difficult to actively create articles lacking in Wikipedia. Or perhaps you or RadioFan would like to start an article on Dal-Tex, which I see no page has yet been made. That would be a much more constructive use of your energy and time.Aliveatoms (talk) 20:16, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you got the warning, because you changed the userpage of RadioFan. For messages are the talk pages. Sorry, but I am not a native speaker of english, and so I don't want to create articles, here on the Englisch Wikipedia. Barras (talk) 20:21, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thank you, my mistake. I meant to do it on the discussion page. Please help remove the deletion status on my article. There is no plagarism.Aliveatoms (talk) 20:23, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'll try to wikify the article a bit. But I can't do much more. Barras (talk) 20:24, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dude...

that ricardinho guy on the hardy boys page insulted me for simply asking a question... can you tell him to be polite for god's sake? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.242.29.27 (talk) 13:40, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you would say it polite to him... --Barras (talk) 13:43, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I did! I asked where the citation was for a statement, and he says "keep reading, friend". what is that supposed to mean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.242.29.27 (talk) 13:46, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just ask him again, if he could explain his statement. Barras (talk) 13:49, 22 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Paris by Night 35

This shouldn't have been reverted. As the author of the page and the only substantial contributor, Myson1431 (talk · contribs) blanking the page should be taken as a request to speedy delete it per WP:CSD#G7. Javert I knit sweaters, yo! 17:38, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. I add normally the template to such pages. Per the history of the article, I reverted the edit to a bot edit, which added an interwiki. The author is so not the only editor of the page and therefore shouldn't the page be deleted under G7. Best Barras (talk) 17:41, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Adding an interwiki link is not a substantial contribution. Per, WP:CSD#G7, "provided that the page's only substantial content was added by its author", which is clearly the case here. Javert I knit sweaters, yo! 17:44, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
OK! Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I'll do it the next time better. The creater of the article requested now the deletions. Barras (talk) 17:49, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No problems, we all make mistakes from time to time. :) Cheers and happy editing, Javert I knit sweaters, yo! 17:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your vote in the Oversight/CheckUser elections

Hi there. I'm happy that you wanted to support my candidacy for Oversight with this edit, however I regret to tell you that you are not allowed to vote in this election. Voters need to have made 150 or more edits before June 15, 2009 and you have only started contributing here this month. As such I removed your vote. I hope you will continue to contribute here and if you need any help, please do not hesitate to ask. Regards SoWhy 21:32, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Erm, Barras has the required number of contributions.--Tznkai (talk) 01:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And I have started to contribute here under User:Barras (de), because this name was firstly not mine. Further more I have over 6k edits on simple and about 1k on dewiki. Best --Barras (talk) 09:55, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
And I have about 300 edits here before 15 July. Barras (talk) 09:56, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, the cutoff date is 15 June. But I have been scolded by Tznkai for indenting your vote (as I'm a candidate) anyway, so I will leave the decision to ArbCom and their hard-working clerks to do such checks. No matter whether your vote will be allowed to stand or not, I am very happy for your trust in me and I will be happy to assist you here if I can. Regards SoWhy 10:01, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, June... Well, let the ArbCom make the decision. Hopefully, they don't check me and you get the tools. Good luck, with or without my vote. Barras (talk) 10:38, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm bringing this up with other election clerks. In the meantime Barras, can you list any and all accounts you have on en-wiki so we can see your vote count as an editor?.--Tznkai (talk) 15:52, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I used only User:Barras (de) here to request an usurptation of this account and support one RFA. The account has only some edits (less then 50), because I was too lazy to change everytime my nick to use en. But if the deadline is in June, so my vote shouldn't be counted. Barras (talk) 18:17, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I "removed" my two votes. I think this is better. Anyway, good luck. Barras (talk) 19:07, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, you should perhaps label User:Barras (de) rather with {{FormerAccount}} or simply redirect it than to declare it a sockpuppet account. The latter is (see also Wikipedia:Sock puppetry) generally used in bad faith and in your case clearly not applicable. Best wishes bzw. Grüße ~~ Phoe talk ~~ 01:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I used {{User Alternate Acct}}, because it is on other projects sometimes in use, because I am admin on simple. If I am not on my home pc, I use this account. It is a sock puppet, but a legitimate one. Best und Grüße Barras || talk 09:29, 3 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong

I found the edit to be perfectly helpful, constructive and I fully understand what the sandbox is. That users comment:

This article shows what a primitive and hypocritic country the USA is. Apart from Saudi Arabia, China and the USA almost no other countries execute citizens anymore. The USA also has double punishment since most death row prisoners spend 20 years or more waiting to die so are effectively also serving a life sentence. And of course this comes from the same country dominated by religious people who speak out at protecting the rights of the unborn child yet turn the other cheek when criminals are put to death by their own government and they're usually black prisoners of course because white people tend to get prison sentences or have the money to pay for a better lawyer. What a shameful country. Americans use your vote in November and use it to better your country rather than isolate it further. --217.201.207.212 (talk) 19:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

Was completely irrelevant and I felt the need to share that fact with him. 98.233.54.127 (talk) 19:10, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but I don't get to what you refer. Barras || talk 19:13, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You edited my changes to his talk page and said that they were not constructive and unhelpful. I'm saying that based on his comments, they certainly were. 98.233.54.127 (talk) 19:28, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but "You are an idiot" is not kind, it is not constructive. He got the warning for this edit. Barras || talk 19:30, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The movie's tagline is "Love means never having to say you're sorry." You call that unconstructive (let alone vandalistic)? Yeah, right! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.97.18.43 (talk) 19:56, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Akuafo Hall

Please explain to me in very clear terms why you have REQUESTED a speedy deletion of my article titled Akuafo Hall. Sincerely I am not pleased at all with such an action as the regulations for G7 do not apply to the article in my opinion and from my understanding of the rules. And what would have been wrong in leaving a message on my user talk page? The time I spent writing the article could have been directed to other equally important things you Know!!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ontoyinsimon (talkcontribs)

2010 WikiCup Signups Reconfirmation!

To ensure that everyone who signed up is still committed to participating in the 2010 WikiCup, it is required that you remove your name from this list! By removing your name, you are not removing yourself from the WikiCup. This is simply a way for the judges to take note of who has not yet reconfirmed their participation. If you have not removed your name from that list by December 30th, 2009 (by 23:59 (UTC)) then your name will be removed from the WikiCup.

It's worth noting the rules have changed, likely after you signed up. The changes made thus far are:

  • Mainspace and/or portal edits will not be awarded points at all.
  • Did you know? articles (which were worth 5 points last year) will now be worth 10 points.
  • Good articles (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Valued pictures will be now awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.
  • Featured lists (which were worth 30 points last year) will now be worth 40 points.
  • Featured portals (which were worth 25 points last year) will now be worth 35 points.
  • Featured articles (which were worth 50 points last year) will now be worth 100 points.
  • Featured topics (which were worth 10 points per article last year) will now be worth 15 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • Good topics (which were worth 5 points per article last year) will now be worth 10 points per any article in the topic that you were a major contributor to.
  • In the news will still be awarded points, however the amount (5 or 10 points) is still being discussed.

If you have any final concerns about the WikiCup's rules and regulations, please ask them now, before the Cup begins to avoid last minute problems. You may come to the WikiCup's talk page, or any of the judge's user talk pages. We're looking forwards to a great 2010 WikiCup! On behalf of the WikiCup judges, iMatthew talk at 03:40, 5 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Last chance to confirm your WikiCup participation!

Hi Barras! This is the last message that will go out to remind you that in order to participate in the 2010 WikiCup, you MUST remove your name from this list! Again, the reason for this reconfirmation is to ensure you've looked over the updated point values (which were different at the time you signed up) and to ensure that you are still interested in competing! If you don't have time to participate or no longer wish to, ignore this message and leave your name on the list. All names on the list will be removed from the contestants list before the Cup starts. Cheers! iMatthew talk at 14:15, 26 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translation help

I found your name at the Germany Wiki-project. I'm hoping you might help me with a German/English problem. I'm trying to add/correct the coordinates on Eintrachthütte concentration camp and Zgoda labour camp. After some effort I've definitively located the camp gate shown here at these coordinates 50°16′46″N 18°54′03″E / 50.2794159°N 18.9008135°E / 50.2794159; 18.9008135 and inserted them, perhaps prematurely, in the Eintrachthütte concentration camp article. (Compare the building in the background of the photo here with the full zoomed-in view here, if you care to confirm that identification.) As explained in these articles, the WWII camp was reused as the Zgoda labor camp. The Zgoda labour camp article, however, already has different coordinates which according to the edit history were taken from the de-WP KZ Eintrachthütte article. I would ordinarily have merely taken that as an imprecise location for the camp (there's a lot of imprecise coordinates) and changed it to the current location of the camp gate, but I stumbled onto this 2003 article in German which, when I machine translated it through Google translate, has some language in it which makes me wonder if the gate may have been moved from its original location to a more easily-accessible location and, thus, makes me concerned that the camp may not have been located where the gate is located now. I was hoping you might read that article and see if there's anything in it that suggests that the gate may have been moved. (The language that most particularly worries me is, "Das erklärt die aufwendige Verlegung des Lagertors an die dicht befahrene Hauptstraße von Schwientochlowitz nach Friedenshütte." Google translates it as: "This explains the complex Relocation of the camp gate on the densely trafficked main road from Schwientochlowitz for peace hut."). Any help you can provide will be very much appreciated. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 21:09, 27 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Just in case you resume editing and happen to see this, please disregard, but thank you nonetheless. Best regards, TransporterMan (TALK) 15:03, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem you're having is the same as Global JavaScript not loading on some sites -- you need to change your importAnyScript function on meta as described in the bug.

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:08, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

blocked at meta wiki

Hello, I very recently created an account at metawiki under the same user name, because it was asking me to log-in even though I'm logged into Wiki. I didn't end up editing anything there. A few days later, I go back and see that my user name is tagged as "spam-bot" indefinite ban. I didn't do anything and I've been a user here on English Wikipedia for over 4 years. I'm not able to respond to your page there either. What's going on ? Cantaloupe2 (talk) 02:22, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I just unblocked you there. I'm sorry for that, however, several information lead to this block. Your username fits to some kind of pattern, it is not unified and more, so the account was blocked. We currently suffer huge problems with spammers, so we always block them quickly. Sorry that you were caught by it. Regards, -Barras talk 08:41, 14 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Can you go ahead and undo the IP block that went along with it at the time? I obviously don't want the actual IP mentioned here for privacy reasons, but I see that you've chkusr privilege there, so you would be able to do it there, right? The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitz@gmail.com. Thanks and cheers, Jake Ocaasi via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 23:41, 20 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

IRC Cloak

Hi Barras, could you check my IRC cloak request submitted on Nov 20. You had looked at it before and said it is done every few weeks/months depending on the number of requests. My username is AmritasyaPutra, I think the cloak has not been provided yet (how will I be notified?) or if it has been then perhaps I am using my IRC client (hexchat) incorrectly. I am unsure. Thank you. --AmritasyaPutraT 03:32, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

We would really appreciate you testing whether TWL partners' references work in Citoid. Sharing your results will help the developers fix bugs and improve the system. If you have a few minutes, please visit the testing page for simple instructions on how to try this new tool. Regards, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:47, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. RE your memo on IRC

Sorry, I only just saw it now ("Hello. You applied for a Wikimedia IRC cloak. It looks like you made a mistake when you filled the form. The diff you entered either is wrong/not valid or you didn’t put in one at all. Can you please edit your userpage and put in as edit summary “IRC cloak request” and then inform me? Thanks"). I've made another edit, hopefully that'll be okay. Thanks :) --Imagine Wizard (talk · contribs · count) Iay amay Magineiay Izardway. 22:55, 31 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]
