Karva Chauth festival
Hi Utcursh! You are a Indian admin. Si I hope that u wud understand the matter. Karva Chauth is a Hindu festival, but User:Hunnjazal is again and again adding Urdu language along with Hindi and Punjabi in the beginning of the article. I have tried hard to make him understand that Urdu script is totally irrelevant for a Hindu festival, but he is so far unable to understand. She is saying that Urdu is relevant as the festival is observed by tiny Hindu community of Pakistan as well. However, she fails to understand that Pakistani Hindu community is not Urdu speaking. Most of Pak Hindus are Sindhi speaking. There is hardly any Urdu speaking Hindu in the entire world. Hindus either speak Hindi or other regional languages, but not Urdu. Sir, I request your intervention in this matter. 1.23.134.244 (talk) 14:02, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
About List of Indians by net worth
Originally the headline was "List of Indians by net worth", but user "Lihaas" suddenly changed the name of the headline into "List of Indians billionaires by Forbes" without any reason. Therefore please revert the headlined name.--(talk→ Kkm010 ←track) 03:47, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- But don't you think the title sounds awkward. I agree with ur point of view. I would rather suggest the title should be "Forbes list of Indian billionaires", what do you think. The title Lihaas has put doesn't sound that well.--(talk→ Kkm010 ←track) 04:34, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- I will change the title sooner or later. Thanks dude.--(talk→ Kkm010 ←track) 04:39, 7 March 2012 (UTC)
- I have been doing workshops and beefed up WP:Workshop. I contacted User:Prad2609 about doing something about WWWW and [got this message. I did restructure the page quite a bit but have photos and links to various Indian WWW workshops. Do you still want to be listed on the page as an editor to do or advise on workshops?? Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.
As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.
If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.
You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

Abuse Filter on the Article Feedback Tool
Hey there :). You're being contacted because you're an edit filter manager, At the moment, we're developing Version 5 of the Article Feedback Tool, which you may or may not have heard about. If you haven't; for the first time, this will involve a free-text box where readers can submit comments :). Obviously, there's going to be junk, and we want to minimise that junk. To do so, we're working the Abuse Filter into the tool.
For this to work, we need people to write and maintain filters. I'd be very grateful if you could take a look at the discussion here and the attached docs, and comment and contribute! Thanks :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 18:36, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
Soni Sori e/c
Hey Utcursch,
Sorry I overwrote a bit of your work on Soni Sori; I've got a lot of tabs open and didn't want to lose the more detailed paragraph I'd put together. I'm thrilled to see that I've already got another pair of eyes on this one, though. I don't know a lot about the Maoist conflict save that it exists--and only have the education to read English-language sources--so I can definitely use some help. (I might ask at WProject India about this one, too) I should be done with my first draft in about an hour if you want to take a look. Cheers, Khazar2 (talk) 04:59, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

conversion of templates
When you convert templates in the India articles, why are you de-linking articles? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:18, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- Which de-linked articles are you talking about? utcursch | talk 05:23, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- Halebidu for example. You delinked India and Karnakata in the info box when you converted? why? Carlossuarez46 (talk) 00:10, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not unlinking anything. It's just that {{Infobox Indian jurisdiction}} used to transform state names to links, while {{Infobox settlement}} doesn't do that. The article you linked was edited by me on May 24; some days later, I made changes to the migration script to link the state names. I'm not linking the country name per WP:OVERLINK. utcursch | talk 04:43, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
You do realize though that that is not the consensus on wikipedia and that the vast majority of place articles have the name of the country (and indeed flag) in the infobox. Infoboxes differ from themain text so OVERLINK does not apply. WP:MOSFLAG says that it is acceptable to use flags for articles on human settlements. Having considerable experience with place articles on wikipedia, I'd say it stands out a lot more by you not actually linking the country or flag in the infobox. Its a minor issue, yes, but aesthetically it is noticeable.
Mohol is fine, better like that, your choice if you don't want to use the flag icon but looks better now. Thanks. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:35, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Fair enough, I've changed the script to include the flag icon and the link for the country. utcursch | talk 12:41, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I would give you barnstar for your efforts to date but somebody already gave you one. I was the one who proposed the infobox for deletion and to organize a cleanup of Indian articles. Sadly the interest was lacking as the usual infobox changer is busy in RL. Veyr glad you are doing this! Regards.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:47, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Glad to be of help! I was thinking of writing a bot for automatic conversion, but a few test cases showed that many articles have infoboxes full of erroneous syntax and lack some parameters (image, coordinates etc.) So, I ended up writing a user script in order to allow the editors to preview the changes. utcursch | talk 12:55, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Yeha that would be useful! One further minor thing in | pushpin_map_caption = can you add Location in (state) like Murshidabad. Just so readers know the pin maps are state not district locators or whatever. I'll arrange sometime to get the regional maps modified to show the India state locator on the map of India in the corner for reference. I've also requested svgs for Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the current maps are pretty nasty!♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:58, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
- Done [2]. utcursch | talk 13:09, 4 June 2012 (UTC)
Can you add a new infobox for Ranchi without inner template map and with state/district details?♦ Dr. Blofeld 20:14, 6 June 2012 (UTC)

Not to be confused...
You have created Balbir Singh Khullar with the hatnote: Not to be confused with Balbir Singh Kullar, yet the two biographies are essentially identical. Are these not, in fact, just alternate spellings of the same name? WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 13:04, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
- They are indeed two different guys. Sansarpur is an Indian village noted for producing field hockey players. Villages in Punjab are often inhabited by the members of same clan, so there are many Khullar Sikhs in this village. "Balbir" is a very common name in Punjab, India and Singh is a mandatory name for baptized Sikhs. Plus, since both these guys are Olympic medalists, they have been awarded the Arjun Award. So, their biographies look quite similar.
- You can find the list of Arjun Awardees here. The one who won the Arjun Award in 1960s is listed as "Cadet Balbir Singh" in this list. The one who won the award in 1990s is listed as "Balbir Singh Kullar".
- "Khullar", "Kular" and "Kullar" are all different English translations of the same name, and any of these can be used to describe both the players. Some articles try to distinguish between them by prefixing "Colonel" to one of them, some by suffixing "Jr." to the other's name.
- You can find a few sources that mention both these players. For example, The Promised Land.
- "I was sitting beside Padamshri and Arjuna awardee Balbir Singh Kullar Jr., who is among the oldest surviving Sansarpur Olympians."
- "His Olympian namesake from Sansarpur, Col. Balbir Singh Kullar, who has settled in Jalandhar, the metro adjacent to Sansarpur,"
- utcursch | talk 14:37, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
:: There may indeed be two hockey players with these strikingly similar names, but the articles (as of this writing) are identical. Same birth dates and all. One of them must be wrong. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:43, 9 June 2012 (UTC)
