Wii Startup Disc
I noticed that you voted for merge on the AfD page of Wii Startup Disk. User:TJ Spyke has provided us with the following information: "In the new IGN Weekly (IGN Weekly Holiday 06), they have the final Wii box and take everything in it out. There was no startup disc there (they also re-confirm that Wii Sports will just come in the same cheap cardboard that Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt came in)." Please consider changing your vote to redirect, as this disc does not exist, and people may search for it and need a redirect. A consensus for this issue would be excellent. A note of appreciation
I just noticed the 'star' that you've pinned onto my userpage. I had put an incredible amount of work into the Ilaiyaraaja article (under this and another, now-nonexistent pseudonym) and although I expected no praise, I must say it is genuinely heartwarming to receive your marvellous recognition; it is a pleasant surprise that certainly made me smile, so thank you! An interesting question, however, is this: how did you find out about my tinkering of the page, and what is the criterion for the awarding of a medal such as this? With best wishes, RaraTheAppleJuggler 14:51, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
- No, I'm not from India. I would like to visit the place though. If you would like to contribute to the Ilaiyaraaja page, there is plenty of room for improvement yet. Just take a look at the systematically organised "to-do" comments on the Discussion page of the article. I'm sure you'd be able to contribute significantly, considering that you are a software expert! For example, I'm looking at inserting short (15 sec. or 30 sec.) audio clips from some of Ilaiyaraaja's songs so that the uninitiated can listen to his music and get some idea (rather than none at all) of what he is all about. The Michael Jackson page does this, and I think it is a brilliant idea. I can, for example, provide you with the audio source and information on which 15/30 seconds of the songs can be selected, and you can for example convert this into the .ogg format required for audio clip inclusions on Wikipedia. Then all we have to do is put it up on the page neatly where appropriate, and voila, it's done! This, and many other things can be done to improve the article (see Discussion page). Mainly, if the content can be padded up, that would be good. I dug up as much sources of reference as I could from all over the place (journals, book chapters, news material -- see the 'References' section of article) and there are others out there I believe that can help flesh out the story of this musician and his music. Cheers, RaraTheAppleJuggler 03:47, 13 November 2006 (UTC).
- I've inserted a lovely To-Do List on the Discussion page, to guide potential editors of this article. Please take a look at it sometimes. ;) AppleJuggler 04:22, 18 November 2006 (UTC)

RfA thanks
I'd like to express my huge thanks to you, Utcursch, for your support in my recent RfA, which closed with 100% support at 71/0/1. Needless to say, I am very suprised at the huge levels of support I've seen on my RfA, and at the fact that I only had give three answers, unlike many other nominees who have had many, many more questions! I'll be careful with my use of the tools, and invite you to tell me off if I do something wrong! Thanks, Martinp23 14:48, 18 November 2006 (UTC) |

Need your help
Dear Utcursch, - Can I interest you in the Save Indian Family entry and the cause it represents? We need help to amplify and improve the page, and to build more entries related to it, such as one on Femofascism, Stridhan, the Domestic Violence Act, 2005 (there is an article on the US 'Violence Against Women Act' but the DV Act doesn't have an entry), etc. The Save Indian Family entry has been attacked twice by vandals, and also a third time by an effort to have it deleted via AfD, which has been defeated. I had put a request for the Femofascism article but it is not answered yet: I do not believe myself qualified enough to build a dispassionate and well-researched article on that subject. Sorry for imposing on your time, but please help if you can!!! My Wikidness 14:41, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

This page is still protected by u. U said that WP:V fails. Everyday his name appears in Front page of newspapers in Kerala.U dont know Malayalam. So it's a timewaste to upload Malayalam Newspaper cuttings. Please see this- www.hindu.com (26th nov2006), www.hindu.com(27th nov2006). Both are reports from State Government's Functions. He is a front runner in Chickun Gunia awareness Cartoon exhibitions in Kerala and chief guest in many pgms conducted by state Public relations department. He is a popular figure in Kerala cartooning. check this too- www.chintha.com.Can u say that all writers enlisted here are notable but one is non notable. This list includes Njanapeed award winners like M. T. Vasudevan Nair, and Kendra Sahitya academy award winners. It's the most popular online magazine in Malayalam.I have another doubt...? How a non notable cartoonist's lengthy interviews regularly appear in T.V channels ...? Answer is so simple...! Here is a large community to hear and watch him...! Nileena joseph (Talk|Contribs) 18:16, 27 November 2006 (UTC)
- I encouraged Ms. Joseph to create the article in her own userpage, then have one of us look at it to see if its ready to stand in article space. WP:CITE should be helpful in her case, as Deepu and Bharatveer can verify the newspaper's if there is any trouble citing. Bakaman Bakatalk 00:46, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Actually Mannaraprayil_Cor-Episcopa is a highly controversial priest in Kerala. In Kerala there is a big dispute between two major Christian Sabhas. Hundreds of news reports are available about him in Malayalam Newspapers(In front page too). News reports in English Newspapers too. Please check this. www.hindu.com www.hindu.com But alas! the article is deleted. Thousands of front cover stories are available about him in Malayalam Newspapers.I think this type of deletions will question the credibility of Wikipedia's notability test. Some Kerala wikies are not interested in creating articles or reading Malayalam Newspapers.. If they had good reading habits in Malayalam, things would have been ended with a different climax. In S. Jithesh’s case U reacted as I expected. But I cant understand the logic of your argument.(it may be of generation gap...sorry) He had drawn thousands of book covers, large number of Keralites reads his cartoons. He is also popular in his state. But u say that he is non notable ...? I think u are sticking on ur argument. He is one of the most famous cartoonist in Malayalam. Before a decade he won prestigious Cartoon Academy Award for Best Caricaturist in Kerala. Now he is the Editor in Chief of Chiricheppu Cartoon Monthly. It is the one and only Political Cartoon Monthly in Kerala. This weekly had been burnt by some fanatics when it published a review on Jyllands Posten's controversial Profet's cartoons. At that time somebody created the article without any references. The articles I had uploaded from Malayalam Newspapers were fit enough to prove his notability.( But u couldn't read Malayalam.) It is really a challenge to work on Kerala related articles as I told earlier. One help needed...? Can u send the deleted version of the abovesaid articles...? Proposed Deletion of Legal Status of Jainism: Ref. your comment
Legalese 15:36, 28 November 2006 (UTC) I am aghast. The claim that there could be a "blatant violation of copyright in this article" is completely unfounded. Please consider my submissions and revert to me for any clarifications.
I explain the constitution of the whole article as below. The article presently has four sub-headings.
* 1 The Recent Legal Debate on Jainism * 2 THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA * 3 Criticism of the Supreme Court's Decision in Bal Patil's Case * 4 Jainism and Other Religions: Illustrations noted by Supreme Court of India
I'll deal with each one in detail.
* 1 The Recent Legal Debate on Jainism
This sub-heading covers the following: >>The Bal Patil Judgment It quotes from the Supreme Court's judgment. Quoting from a Supreme Court jugdment cannot be a violation of copyright.
The rest of the comments have been written by me. Check, by googling, if you can find any websites from which it has been claimed that
>>U.P. Basic Shiksha Parishad Judgment This para has been written by me. Check by googling if its been copied even a least bit.
* 2 THE CONSTITUTION OF INDIA
The first para merely quotes the Article 25 of the Constitution of India in original. It is a provision of law, and there is no violation of any copyright in reproducing it.
The second para has been written by me. You can check, by googling it, if it appears anywhere else, it would have name "rishabh sancheti" or the link "legalese" [my wiki name].
* 3 Criticism of the Supreme Court's Decision in Bal Patil's Case
This has been authored completely by me, with the help of certain legal provisions. Again, citing the legal provisions cannot entail any violation of a copyright. The veracity of such legal provisions may be checked at <indiacode.nic.in>, Government of India's official law database, by feeding the name of the Act.
The explanations appearing below each of the Acts have been authored by me. One can verify by googling.
* 4 Jainism and Other Religions: Illustrations noted by Supreme Court of India
This fourth part may give an impression on a superficial reading that it is made up of several parts which might be claimed to have been copied. However, I submit with deference that such claim is baseless, and would prove to be so, if any one may be diligent enough to verify. Infact this part is a summary of the illustrations noted by the Supreme Court of India in the UP Shiksha Parishad Judgment, the original link of which has already been given. Click on the link, and it would open a page on the Judis Database of the Government of India, having this judgment. Do a simple CTRL+F to locate these paragraphs there.
As I'v stated above, there could be no copyright violation in quoting from a Court's judgment along with its proper reference. I have not claimed that I have authored this part, the heading itself clearly reads "Illustrations noted by Supreme Court of India". The para numbers in this part are the original para numbers of the Judgment, which has already been mentioned in the beginning of this part.
Now.........how is there any copyright violation?
Thanks
Legalese 12:22, 29 November 2006 (UTC)Thank you so much for your effort to wikify the article. It really looks so much better now. I'll obtain the scan of the Rajasthan High Court Judgment and reference the article in more detail to remove any apparent violations of WP:OR.
Thanks!
Thanks for the encouragement. I hope to contribute many more articles in the future. Kehanren 09:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Prods
I've unprodded Ali Sina, Zakir Naik and Robert Prechter. I think they deserve an AFD at least. If you wish, I'll nominate them for deletion (you won't be able to create a new AFD page, I guess). Please drop a note on my talk page if you want me to move these articles to AFD. Thanks. utcursch | talk 11:15, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks ... I'd really appreciate it. These "articles" are only excuses to have external links to the subjects' wesbsites, some of which (a) point to stale sites ("bandwidth exceeded"), (b) have "sessionid" fields, so they just go to a default page, or (c) force a streaming video download (in Urdu, with English subtitles, no less!) None of the three meet WP:BIO, IMHO, and the articles should be salted after deletion. —72.75.93.131 (talk · contribs) 11:49, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- I am asking that you promptly remove the Robert Prechter biography as an article for deletion. The editor who requested the AFD spurned my prior good-faith attempt to resolve the primary sources issue. This editor also made false claims about "links to the subject's publications," plus other reckless accusations; and, given what we can all read here, there is strong reason to believe that this AFD process should not have happened at all.
- Even so, I have since added reputable third-party citations to the Prechter bio. In the AFD discussion I've shown that Prechter surpasses the standards explained in Wikipedia:Notability (people), and the evidence I've presented has not been challenged; it's also self-evident that the opinions expressed to "keep" the article already go beyond the rough consensus standard. Thank you. Rgfolsom 16:37, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
Ibn Warraq and his "Works"
I hate to disturb you again, but please check out this article, and the following books, cited in his "Works" section:
- Why I Am Not a Muslim, Ibn Warraq
- Leaving Islam: Apostates Speak Out, edited by Ibn Warraq
- What the Koran Really Says: Language, Text, and Commentary, edited and translated by Ibn Warraq
- Quest for the Historical Muhammad, edited and translated by Ibn Warraq
- Origins of the Koran: Classic Essays on Islam's Holy Book, edited by Ibn Warraq
Most of these articles seem to have been created by User:CltFn simply in order to add verisimilitude to the author's article ... some simply list the Table of Contents as a way of linking to other WikiBios of questionable notability. Thanks! —72.75.93.131 (talk · contribs) 12:17, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
- Half of those Google hits are mirrors, like Amazon.com book reviews in different languages ... beau coup pages from the subject's own website will also increase the count. (And don't forget that because of the way Google works, all of the Wikipedia articles that mention his name are also included in that count.) If he's so notable, then why is the only credible citation for him a stale link (empty page) for a Boston Globe article? There are no references for him except for blogs and POV websites.
- Look that the ToC for these books ... Quest for the Historical Muhammad has a Wikilink for Fatima and the Daughters of Muhammad, and that article consists of, "The book is mentioned in The Quest for the Historical Muhammad by Ibn Warraq." Look at "What links here" for those book articles, and you will see that they are all circular references to otherwise WP:NN authors (like Asma Gull Hasan and Arthur Jeffery--all of his citations point to the POV website www.answering-islam.org and a Wikilink mention of his essays in Ibn Warraq's Origins of the Koran) and books (like What the Koran Really Says--click the first external link in the ToC for What Is the Koran?--the book is just a collection of previously "published" essays, some of them from websites.) —72.75.93.131 (talk · contribs) 13:12, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
Some small things and Vinod Valloppillil
Many noted Kerala related articles had been deleted earlier..It happens because of some other reason. Also, google search count does not determine how famous an Indian is :-). Let me site an example here. Every kid in the Indian state of Kerala starts studying their language with a mention about Thunchath Ezhuthachan, who is the father of Malayalam Language. That maps to around 30,000,000 Keralites who knows this name. And the number of Google search results I get for same is this: "Results 1 - 10 of about 411 for thunchath ezhuthachan. (0.21 seconds) Another thing: For example I'm totally ignorant about Sports. Some of the big names in Cricket or billiards or tennis is unknown to me. I'm not interested in it. I have heard the name Koneru Hampi (chess) very recently. what a fool I'm!!!.This is because I'm least interested in it. Not because of Koneru Humpi's fault. U are a computer expert. So the persons from that field may be familiar to u. (Azim Premji or Narayana murthy or Sudha Murthy or such IT tycoons...to the new generation IT experts)I think u are from Mumbai...? Have u heard of Ranjith Desai- the great Marathi Novelist. He is the person who wrote the biography of Raja Ravi Varma. I have heard a lot about him...!That may be because I'm very Interested in art and culture related subjects. Those who are not interested in that field may not be familiar with such names. Here in Kerala wikipedia User:Kjrajesh and I used to contribute Malayalam literature or art related subjects. Actually there are only a 4 or 5 active wikies in Kerala. If the number of active wikies in Kerala wikipedia is increased all the problems will be get solved. Anyway see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Vinod Valloppillil. U are a computer expert. So u decide his relevance...? I'm not an expert to check a computer related matter. But I have'nt heard his name. Nileena joseph (Talk|Contribs) 16:37, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
There was a very good reason they were prodded. I will copy-and-paste from Wknight94's talk page for convenience's sake:
...Was speedy-tagged because the article talks about how great he is and how important he is to Tamil literature and yet his name only gets 177 Google hits in total, this article included, of which only 58 are truly distinct from one another. When "-wikipedia" is added to the search, this number drops to 67, of which 33 are truly distinct from one another. His Pinakalinmukaingal gets 17 Google hits when "-wikipedia" is added to the search, and that includes all hits, not just the reasonably distinct-looking ones. Even this was lifted straight from our Tirupur article, as you can see here. "PINANKALIN MUGANGAL" not in quotes got this: four hits, all of them for Wikipedia and three clone articles. The same is true of Samayalairaikkalayankal and Theener Idaivellai, as you can see here and here.
Oh, and according to http://www.katha.org/kathaawards.html, Katha Awards aren't given by the President of India, they're chosen as follows:
Katha requests an eminent writer, scholar or critic in each of the regional languages to choose what she/he feels are the three best stories published in that language, in the previous year.
Our Nominating Editors sift through numerous journals and magazines that promote short fiction. Many of them consult their friends or other Friends of Katha in the literary world to help them make their nominations. The nominated stories are translated and from these are chosen the Prize Stories. Each author receives the KATHA AWARD FOR CREATIVE FICTION which includes a citation, Rs 2000, and publication (in translation) in that year's Katha Prize Stories volume. The editor of the regional language journal that first published the award winning story receives the KATHA JOURNAL AWARD. The translators are handpicked from the list of nearly 3000 names we have at Katha. Each of them gets the KATHA AWARD FOR TRANSLATION which includes a citation, Rs 2000, and the chance to translate a prize story.
Shankar Dayal Sharma (President of India in 1993) has an M.A. in English literature according to his severely undercited article but he sounds as if he had better things to do than to take time out to be a Katha Awards judge.
I have prodded the Chayathirai article because it's almost 100% lifted from somewhere that no one has been able to track down and the stated reason, "24 distinct Google hits, excluding this article and its numerous clones." Also, Chayathirai "best novel" tamil nadu gets me 8 hits from Wikipedia, its clones and some blurbage from three sites that are selling the book. One site even tells you that that's just what the publisher says (that it won the "Best Novel Award" from the Tamil Nadu Government). I am beginning to doubt that the Government of Tamil Nadu actually bothers with such things, because of the results of "best novel award" tamil nadu government 2/3 Chayathirai (the Wikipedia article and a website that sells the book) and 1/3 clear reference to the Best Novel Award said to be given by the Académie Française.
Those are just the lies I've caught so far sitting on my ass.
Don't you find it odd that only the one of his novels to be translated into English (and sold online) gets a Wikipedia page, and that both pages were set up by the same person (yes, he's the one who said that the President of India gives away Katha Awards). You should see the original version of the Chayathirai page: it looks as if it's complete copyvio. It's too bad that http://www.indiatodaygroup.com/ makes it hard to verify whether or not they ever said anything about the book one way or another. "POMMEELEAN" doesn't seem to exist outside of Wikipedia and her clones. I know that English is not the pfficial language of India, but don't you find it odd that no English speaking Indians wish to speak of "INDIAS HIGHEST LITERARY NATIONAL AWARD -“ SAHITYA AKADEMAI ‘’- WINNER". There is no, "Sahitya Akademai", but there is a Sahitya Akademi. The very earliest version of Chayathirai features what may or may not be an actual excerpt from the novel in question:
Pitch dark in colour the gutter glimmered as far as one’s eyes could reach. The gutter easily passed for a stagnant pool housing the waste from dye industries. An ugly mixture of colours it made an irritating sight.
I hope you can spot what's wrong with that. The rest seems to me very heavy-handed
Additionally Now, Category:Wikify from July 2006 may be cleared of this piece of self-congratulatory garbage (that is, Subraposermanian), but Wikipedia isn't. I must ask you what on earth made you remove the prod tag on this and his allegedly fabulous novel. I also ask that you put it up for AfD because I don't think I can be civil when and if the original author comes to defend his article (Remember, that he's already lied once!).
One last thing: should I have put all of the above into my prod notice?--Rmky87 22:51, 29 November 2006 (UTC)

Tell me where does wikipedia forbid low-res scanned images from newspapers, and how can you say that images scanned from negatives are not scans? ॐ Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 15:53, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
It is patently clear that its a low-res scan and not a hi-res scan. Whether from positive or negative, scan is a scan. ॐ Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 15:54, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
It is a scan, all images from non-digital era are through scans. It was published in the newspaper on 16th October 1996. ॐ Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 15:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Another thing, please dont repeatedly revert without clarifying things from me or at least informing me about images or articles I have created/uploaded, it is not nice. Some people do that out of bad faith, but we should try maintain a bit of civility and etiquette. Hope you dont take this request in the wrong sense. Parthi (Venu62) is a destructive editor who attacks me personally by Stalking me. This is one of his latest exploits ॐ Kris (☎ talk | contribs) 19:36, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
Page moves - FYI
When you move a page, you need to check "What links here" and fix all the double redirects. You have not done so. —Hanuman Das 14:04, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
OK. Thanks for your reply. I'll clean up after an article move that I didn't do once, but, ugh, move warring is nasty. Fortunately now I think all the redirects have been edited so it can't be moved back over any of them. It will have to go to requested moves... If I'd been bright enough the edit the one you used when I fixed all the redirect, it'd have been stuck where it was. —Hanuman Das 14:14, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
