User impersonation?
Hello. Have you created the new User:LazyJob account, or is this a new vandal/impersonator using your name? -- Alexf(talk) 20:52, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- yes it is me, i just don't want to add 1000+ edit on my edit history. It is hard to me to search my own history. Matthew_hk tc 20:53, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
- Then may I suggest you clearly label it as a maintenance account, (I guess it is not a doppelgänger), to avoid being accussed of sockpuppetry? -- Alexf(talk) 21:01, 12 November 2010 (UTC)

- Did you see the Template:famous players means? Did you see some of the clubs DID NOT had that sections because the editors can't form the rules? Matthew_hk tc 21:10, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Hi there MATTHEWHK, VASCO here,
i only removed the info you added at this player's page because, even with the reference - which is not in English, so harder to understand - the English is very very poor, people can't make anything of it.
I see you have put it back, OK i have rephrased that sentence accordingly. Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:01, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Re: Kerlon
I live in the Netherlands, and I can tell you for sure that the reserve team is different than the youth team (Jong Ajax). Reserve teams are used for players who aren't featured that much with the senior squad and players who are recovering from injury, whereas youth teams are for youngsters only. Hence, Kerlon wasn't part of the youth team, since he would have just been uneligible for it due to age limits. --Angelo (talk) 02:29, 15 November 2010 (UTC)

Hello, It is obvious that ever since I made a comment regarding your complaining about my edits that you have gone through many of them and have tried to find every possible problem there is just to say it to me. Finding the problems is fine, as that is what this website is meant for, however not in the fashion that you do. I don't have the time to sit online all day and play with this, which is why I rarely have been editing recently, however you ruin articles. As a reader, I would want to know as much as possible about a player in an "encyclopedia" and know much more then a simple summary, especcially since these are BIOGRAPHIES. For example, the article I created of Raphael Martinho, is completely rediculous. It isn't even half as informative and organized as the way I wrote it, and you do this with all my articels that you find just one mistake or misprint in. It's quite disappointing. I'm sure many people would agree with me about the article point of view. Do not take this the wrong way, as I do not disagree with your fixing incorrect errors, but the rediculous comments that you have to add in on my talk page are becoming transgressed. Thanks Juve10 (talk) 03:28, 2 December 2010 (UTC)
Portuguese naming discussion
Hey Matthew,
There's a discussion on the football project write now concerning the use of {{portuguese name}} on biographies. As it concerns you, you might want to join the discussion. It's currently located at WT:FOOTY#Names template. Cheers! Chris Cunningham (user:thumperward: not at work) - talk 10:22, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi there MATTHEW, VASCO here,
as always, i have a difficult time understanding your English, but my opinion regarding that template is the following:
The templates should indicate what surname does the player/person has as the most important (most persons choose the paternal surname, and so the template is necessary in Spanish footballers, to indicate that the FIRST surname belongs to the father; in my opinion it is not necessary for Brazilian and Portuguese footballers).
In the example you give, Maxwell, the template has ZERO interest in my opinion, as the player is not known by any surname (first, second or third), but by his FIRST name. Attentively, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 04:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

FC Edmonton
I have also updated the roster. You left it with eleven players when http://www.fcedmonton.com/content/2011-roster shows only ten. You also changed the date format to d m y from m d y. I have made the appropriate changes to both. Cheers. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:07, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks you to remind me. I used British style (dmy) but it should be mdy in North America, right? It is my fault that not to double check which players remained, so i missed no.11. Matthew_hk tc 17:11, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
- Thorny issue. USA is dmy. Technically, Canada is either. However, the article was established and past stub using dmy and that's the key. Thanks for your work on the article. --Walter Görlitz (talk) 17:14, 17 January 2011 (UTC)

Apologies/Explanations
Hi there MATTHEWHK, VASCO here,
i apologize for accusing you of stuff you did not do. However, you continue to do this: insert foreign refs when English refs are already in article, supporting this or that sentence. Please don't do it, foreign references are good when we can't find English ones.
Also, regarding the bit i removed in David Luiz, i did it because it was (again) written in very poor English, i did (as most of the users i imagine) not understand anything that was in that sentence. I will try to have a look at the reference you added and try to reinstate that part again, but only if i can understand what is said there.
The language is mostly why i sometimes lose my manners (i should not i know) in summaries with you. I know you are a good and well-intended user, trying for the best at and for WP. Again, please accept my apologies if i offended you.
Attentively, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 21:24, 12 February 2011 (UTC)

Categories
Hi there MATTHEWHK, VASCO here,
as you did in Nicola Legrottaglie, as anon (i know), please don't revert me and add the category "Association football central defenders" again. The categories are "GOALKEEPERS", "DEFENDERS", "MIDFIELDERS", "WINGERS" (some users have also talked about merging these two) and "FORWARDS", nothing else, OK?
Again, please respect the other people's work, so the same can be done to yours. Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 16:54, 21 February 2011 (UTC)
- I recommend your followed the rule in wikipedia. There is no Cfm started and the discussion in WP:Footy did not formed a consensus. Despite in Italy many defender could play right-back (or centre-back on right side?) and centreback; they seldom assist, it should classified them as "defender" (in Zaccardo case) But Legrottaglie always play centre-back. Matthew_hk tc 14:44, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
- Yes i am aware that many defenders play in more than one position, not the case of Legrottaglie. But the category is just "Association football defenders", there is a consensus on that matter. But i'll create the discussion again, so we can be sure. - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 15:42, 23 February 2011 (UTC)
References
MATTHEW, this is more serious than i thought,
In Matías Fernández, you REMOVED an English source (UEFA.com, which is 100% reliable, not 99%, 100%!) and replaced it with a Portuguese one. Why? This is English WP, not Portuguese WP, please stop it, this is even worse than adding a foreign ref when there is already an English one, now you remove English refs as well?
I have to ask it again, please respect the other people's work...Attentively - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 23:17, 24 February 2011 (UTC)
- As Portuguese CMVM is a secondly source and the English one is the third hand. And about accuracy, the CMVM source is sightly difference with UEFA.com,
with the 20% clauseWith a more detailed bonuses clause. 3.635M - 3.6M, probably refer to €35,000 to clubs other than Villarreal as Solidarity Contribution (club he played at age 15-23).
- Lastly, there is no rule to remove a secondly source, please see WP:NONENG, i recommend you to keep both English and Portuguese source (Readability vs accuracy),
as the latter wrote about the 20% clause.
- As Alberto Aquilani and Karim Benzema articles also wrote the bonuses, please at least wrote "about €3.6M plus sporting bonuses." Matthew_hk tc 00:38, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Changed words. Both source were similar but on fees. So please add back the bonuses and 20% section. You are so respect to just remove them. Matthew_hk tc 00:44, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Again, i do not understand your English in most of the sentences ("you are so respect to just remove them", what does this mean, i should not have removed your ref? You started it, removing an English source from one of the most trusted football sites, UEFA.com). Also, the stuff about sporting bonuses and other stuff is not interesting, all we care when reading a sentence about a deal is: 1 - how many years is the contract; 2 - is it a purchase or a loan; 3 - how much did the transfer cost? And that's it, not stuff about bonuses and transfer funds, etc, etc.
I am going to talk about this at WP:FOOTY, you can participate in the discussion. Until some other time, from Portugal - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 01:47, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- Per forum discussion, i have reinstated your reference. Have a nice weekend - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 12:57, 25 February 2011 (UTC)
- As i saw in John Terry and Zlatan Ibrahimović also mentioned his wages, my you add back the wage of Hugo Almeida with the official Turkish source KAP (Tukish stock information system?) as citation? Or you would like to discuss it in WP:footy? Matthew_hk tc 15:39, 26 February 2011 (UTC)
- I don' think it is necessary, in my opinion. It has references about the duration of contract and price of deal, that's more than enough. Also, you say that J.TERRY and Z.IBRAHIMOVIC's articles have that, but not all the articles on footballers in WP have to be 100% alike. Happy week - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:14, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
External sources
Hi Mat. Listen, I just want to explain to you why you can´t remove the Transfermarkt website from the vast majority of football biographies from ex-Yugoslavia countries. If you notece, most biographies have "Srbijafudbal" and "Transfermarkt" both included, and there is a reason for that: while Srbijafudbal includes the seasons stats between 2000 and now, it doesn´t update game by game stats, so that is why Transfermarkt serves for, for the current season stats. We could have chousen "Soccerway", or some other website instead, but Transfermarkt is very reliable regarding the Serbian league since 2007 because has a team of dedicated editors from the region. It also has the advantage of including more info than Soccerway, thus being preferably used over that site, and it is in English while some other Serbian sites are not. Resumingly, Srbijafudbal (past seasons) and Transfermarkt (current season) work together so please don´t remove any of them for players playing/played in Serbia, or neighbouring countries. I corrected that on Washington article. Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 23:54, 5 March 2011 (UTC)
- Transfermarkt sucks for transfer fee and career history. And the stats, i once found fake stats. If replaceable please do not use Transfermarkt unless the individual stats could be break down to match report. Yet they still not corrected the career history of Matteo Guardalben and they even not accept my information on Cristian Molinaro's transfer fee and career history. And i found no reliable source for Frank Ongfiang's South Africa club (no source in club website nor South African League for his fictional career).
- As the site itself a community site, i would asked where the information they get and did they had a good admin to filter them? You could tested yourself by submit a fake stats. for a Serbian player of lowly division to see could they accept. Matthew_hk tc 08:16, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- For, Washington, i would prefer World Football, despite they did not had all the match report prior 2005/2007. Some information in Transfermarkt may associated with User:Zombie433 who banned, which some wrong info he submitted in wiki were parallel appeared in that site. He is famous for fake stats and provide a right source but did not read it, or misunderstand the source he provided. I doubted the policy of Transfermarkt as a community site. Matthew_hk tc 08:30, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Hummm, I see, you think that Zombie may have gonne there to edit his science fiction stats. Anyway, regarding Serbian SuperLiga, Transfermarkt has remarkably good stats from 2007 onwords. The prior 2007 part is so~so, but since 2007 it has it complete. For exemple, Worldfootball doesn´t even have this 2010-11 season complete! Players are missing, many players have wrong club careers and even wrong nationalities. That is the problem. I really can´t find a better website for recent seasons in Serbia than Transfermarkt. They have 4 complete seasons precise. And I know why that happends, it is because there are many Serbian inmigrants in Germany, so they follow the league there quite well. I´ll try to see if there is any better website, but transfermarkt has been the best one I found regarding current season. Anyway, Worldfootball is also German, so Zombie may go and edit there as well.(hope not) FkpCascais (talk) 09:27, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- The problem is worldfootball, zerozero were accept people to submit information, but Transfermarkt ranked the least on accepting/decline information. Seems the site admin can't identify which info is reliable and which isn't. Matthew_hk tc 09:34, 8 March 2011 (UTC)
- Mat, I understand that the site has many incorrect info but, the site is allways used just as complementary, never as the alone source. All info regarding Serbian SuperLiga is correct from 2007 on. And this 2010-11 season has been followed to the detail. In the biographies it´s used as the 2nd, 3th or even 4th or more source. We had this discussion on Footy project and Transfermarkt ended up being accepted as secundary or complementary source. I watched the Worldfootball site and regarding Serbian League is very incomplete for this season (players missing, wrong transfers, wrong nationalities...). I don´t see a better source for the current season to be sourced other than Transfermarkt. FkpCascais (talk) 21:32, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Categorization & naming
Mat, could you please leave the cats in the order personal first, meaning, 19XX born, living, people from bangu, siamese bangunians,... and then football cats. And btw, you don´t need to change footballers names into their complete names, it should be the common name, not complete name, I speak Portuguese and I know which are name and which surnames, and I spoke this with Brazilian editor already (Carioca). FkpCascais (talk) 05:05, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- In FAQ, Living people and 19XX births should be the least. This matter should be raised a global matter in somewhere in WP:Categories or in admin noticeboard. Living people category itself is meaningless. For example, What's the first impression of Kaka? i don't think his year of birth and he is alive came first. But currently they sorted the category by A to Z in Barack Obama, so the "rule" should be discussed, or should follow the very old style (i also created some page which births came first in the past, and you find that became a notable number of article of Serie A player)
- And for common name, if well sourced (and unique), it should use common name, just like Mancini, Alemão, but just like Washington da Silva there is at least 4 notable Washington da Silva, and just like Felipe, the is many Felipe as footballer/goalkeeper and there is many Felipe dos Santos (Santos is a common surname too). Matthew_hk tc 05:44, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- BTW, Washington da Silva (footballer born 1985) is unique (as another footballer born 1985, seems not a fully-professional) If you like, just moved to that name space, likes the case of Manuel Fernandes (footballer born 1986) (using () instead of full name).
- For Washington Santana da Silva, i can't find a reliable source inside Brazil, for his common name "Washington Santana". He may choose to refer him as Santana, just like the case of Ayrton Senna (Senna think Mr.Silva is too common in Brazil). Matthew_hk tc 06:09, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
I was the oned who´s attention was called to this when I started editing wp years ago (I think it was Jogurney, but not sure...) and I was explained that the personal cats come first, football related after. I´ll try to see if there is somewhere anything on that. Regarding names, I do undertsand what you were doing, and you did well the disambiguation page and all, just remind that is not absolutelly necessarilly to be that way. On the other side, I agree on this, because in Washington or Filipe´s case it is better for people not to confuse them around. I found another Zombie mess: here Dinnyuy Kongnyuy. It´s a young unknown player that would be to expect that no mess would happend with him. But I was wrong, look what Zombie did: [1]. Incredible, ah? He messed up "Jude Kongnyuy" with this guy, and without even checking he mixed the two careers. This is how it looks now, after fixing his mess Dinnyuy Kongnyuy. FkpCascais (talk) 06:37, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
- And Michael Owen use football came first, a discussion should be started again in WP:Footy. Matthew_hk tc 07:13, 10 March 2011 (UTC)
