New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021
Hello Matthew hk,
Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Teramo Calcio players
A tag has been placed on Category:Teramo Calcio players indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Sorry:
I couldn't help but notice typos in your sentences, so I thought I was doing the right thing by correcting it. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 11:52, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- It is never ok to edit someone else comment (Except for bureaucratic purpose to crossing out comment, or html or mediawiki language error that break the page so that it is not readable). Matthew hk (talk) 11:54, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, this week was kind of crazy for me, even within a span of 2 weeks. DarkMatterMan4500 (talk) (contribs) 11:55, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
Thanks...
I'm glad you'd noticed what someone has done, i.e. what you'd described on the Mike Matthews17 talk page. It appears these two talk pages "Ross" did are not highly watched which is probably why RMCDBot went to do it's part in the disruption then undid that disruption later. I can't believe that is still going on today, in case you were wondering how tedious that has become. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 16:09, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, finally figure out last time i misread the diff, probably missed out the 1 intermediate edit by another editor thing. Matthew hk (talk) 23:23, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
I have no objection to being reverted at Talk:2019–2020 Hong Kong protests, but for what it's worth, under WP:SOCKSTRIKE it's acceptable to remove content added by a sockpuppet if the only responses to it were one or two replies that clearly do not add anything of value to the discussion, such as someone commenting that they look like a sock
. In this case, the only replies were you and CentreLeftRight telling the sockpuppet off, so I judged it acceptable to remove. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 19:11, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- Clerk note: And regarding what you said at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Dgtdddsx123: What's happening at Template:China–Hong Kong border crossings (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) appears to be mostly a content dispute, and I'll be honest, neither side comes off looking very good. At the time the template was semi-protected, you had reverted without explanation four times in under an hour. The edits you reverted don't appear to have been vandalism or otherwise exempt from 3RR. On talk... That might be meatpuppetry, or it might be someone hopping IPs, or it might be innocent (unlikely, but possible). Regardless, the SPI for Dgtdddsx123 is not the right place to post if you aren't alleging that any of these IPs are Dgtdddsx123. Instead, I would recommend ANI. -- Tamzin[cetacean needed] (she/they) 19:37, 19 October 2021 (UTC)
- For the first issue, based on SPI, it is assume good faith that they may don't aware not allow to use sock. For block evasion sock or vandalism , of course we should Wikipedia:RBI. I will reply regarding your second paragraph later as i am busy in real life (home moving and the league start preparation at our new Path of Exile wiki). Matthew hk (talk) 01:31, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- And a quick check. My last revert is 08:37, 3 October 2021. The date of protection 09:01, 3 October 2021. The other revert is done by user:S 0524 which i am no relation of (and yes, i lost count of revert so that i later realized it is 4RR already). Matthew hk (talk) 01:36, 20 October 2021 (UTC)
- And yeah @Tamzin:. I probably need to raise this in WP:ANI as i accuse them as off site canvassing by providing screenshot that such wiki bot existed in W:RPP https://imgur.com/L7qmaSa . But it seems the cult now accuse me as the cult leader that accused me canvassing without any prove in Talk:2019–2020 Hong Kong protests . Please review your good faith on Dgtdddsx123. Matthew hk (talk) 04:50, 21 October 2021 (UTC)
- Or rather, "claim" i have posted in forum so that i will be banned. This seem low quality black mudding Special:Diff/1050888402. Matthew hk (talk) 04:59, 21 October 2021 (UTC)

Review for AFC article
Hi Matthew, sorry for disturbing. This is my first time to contribute article. I would like to request you to have a view on it https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Jacky_Liew_(Si_Gongzi) as I had add some additional reference to prove its notability, but all the references are in Chinese, so could I request you to have a review on the article? Patricialiew (talk) 11:11, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- I had requested that i left the AFC project (Since i have more work to do in real life and in poewiki.net). Sorry please find someone else. Matthew hk (talk) 15:00, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- Okay Thanks Patricialiew (talk) 16:11, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
Hong Kong IPs
I don't think you're doing yourself any favors referring to the individual(s) behinds those IPs as a "cult"; for some English speakers, that carries very pejorative connotations. Your concerns about disruption and the accusations they are levying against you will carry more weight if you use more neutral language. I blocked one of the ranges because they were making tiresome edits to Country. I have no idea what's going on with the other topics. OhNoitsJamie Talk 23:56, 8 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Ohnoitsjamie: At least next time when they name me in WP:RFP, it will be a "yellow light" that 100% i am not involved as sockmaster and i would say you should judge the nominator true intention. Matthew hk (talk) 00:00, 9 November 2021 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Steven Zhang
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Steven Zhang requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. PRAXIDICAE💕 20:13, 28 April 2022 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022
Hello Matthew hk,
At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.
Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.
In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 809 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 850 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.
This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.
If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}}
on their talk page.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

Page is is used for a scam !
The current Link of the website is obviously a scam ! Can someone delete the Link and maybe verify that this company exists ?
Or ad least add that it is used for scameing investors ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mintcheck (talk • contribs) 09:30, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- Which article? Also you can do it yourself unless other people dumb enough to revert your edit without asking your clarification. Matthew hk (talk) 10:13, 23 May 2022 (UTC)
- sorry for being to stupid to notice that i am doing. I thought this is related to the page i was talking about.
- I did not even saw your post until now. Its this side, but i just managed to delete the link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panjiang_Investment_Holdings#Critics Mintcheck (talk) 22:36, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
- well, wikipedia is not responabile to external website had been hacked or whatever. Also, your edit is not encyclopaedic either . According to Shanghai Stock Exchange, at least the listed subsidiary has a new website http://www.pjgf.cn/ Matthew hk (talk) 09:21, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
- I just realized what kind of big shot you are on Wikipedia. I messaged 2 people and the one that answers me is such an influential person on the website. I once heard that the George Bush Wikipedia Article is the most edited and that's why I went there and tried to reach out to the first person I could find. Thinking, I would be able to start a discussion about this given article. The extra section was obviously not so well liked. The only people looking at this page are currently the people that get funneled there by this scam operation. That's why I added the section. :D Mintcheck (talk) 14:02, 28 May 2022 (UTC)
