Teresa Rojas Rabiela, external links tag.
Dear Kj cheetham, I refer to the External links tag on the Teresa Rojas Rabiela article. I have reduced the external links from 5 to 3 ¿Do you think is possible to remove the tag? If it is, please I ask you to remove it. Thanks in advance. Eduardo Ruiz Mondragón (talk) 23:24, 11 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Eduardo Ruiz Mondragón, thank you for the edit, though the issue was more to do with external links in the main body of the article. DYK for Natalie Portman
On 12 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Natalie Portman, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Natalie Portman was a co-author on a scientific paper about frontal lobe activation? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Natalie Portman. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Natalie Portman), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello Kj cheetham,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!
- Reminders
- Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
- If you're interested in instant messaging and chat rooms, please join us on the New Page Patrol Discord, where you can ask for help and live chat with other patrollers.
- Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
- If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
- To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Early end of the backlog drive
A few days ago, new page patrollers got the backlog to zero. Due to the unprecedented success of the backlog drive, it will be ending early—at the end of 24 October, or in approximately two hours.
Barnstars will be awarded as soon as the coords can tally the results. Streak awards will be allocated based on the first three weeks of the drive, with the last three days being counted as part of week three.
Great work everyone! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:50, 24 October 2022 (UTC)

orphan article Laura Messing
Hi Kj cheetham! Many thanks for the note you shared in the page Laura Messing that I started. I appreciate you adding these details while I humbly cruise my first steps as a contributor :) I've been working in including categories, links and brushed up a few errors you pointed out. I was wondering when would it be appropriate to delete the note, do you have any suggestions/ tips for me to continue making it better? Sending good thoughts on your day! Melloncita Melloncita (talk) 11:10, 25 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Melloncita, thanks for your message! Categories look good, I see the article now has links to it and so I've removed the orphan tag, and I've done a couple of minor tweaks myself too. I've not proof-read it or looked at the sources, but you should be aware about the different types of sources outlined at WP:PSTS. Basically you don't want too many sources written by the subject or the institution they work for, etc. You may want to ask at Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists (or even join that project if you haven't already) for more specific help. Hope that helps! -Kj cheetham (talk) 08:46, 26 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi @Kj cheetham, many thanks for your reply and for kindly having checked the categories and removed the orphan tag. I will follow your lead re joining/checking Wikipedia:WikiProject Women artists project, and will continue to research on different sources. Thank you once again for this! and for your recent tweaks. Have a question about this article Nicholas J. Ayala
Hello,
Recently I edited this article and added some references, wikilinks, and Image(with copyright permission). Suddenly, noticed that the promotional template. Which part of the article needs to improve. Since I told you I'm new to Wikipedia and still learning to improve myself.
Regards Goldabrun (talk) 17:40, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Goldabrun, thanks for your message. I've not had a proper look at Nicholas J. Ayala, so you might want to ask MrsSnoozyTurtle as it was them who put the promotional template on it. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:45, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, I asked him/her. But could you please look at the article for a while. What need to be improve. Because, in future it will help me to make any article clean.🙏 Goldabrun (talk) 17:57, 29 October 2022 (UTC)
- The first thing is given your comment at User_talk:MrsSnoozyTurtle#Have_a_question_about_this_article_Nicholas_J._Ayala and the image you uploaded, it seems like you know the subject? In which case this is a potential conflict of interest and so I've left a separate message about that on your talk page with some hopefully helpful links, plus a note on the talk page of the article. In any case, I've not reviewed the article carefully, but a big thing to be aware of is the difference between WP:PRIMARY sources (i.e. written by the subject or their company) and WP:SECONDARY sources (i.e. written about the subject, often independantly), as per WP:PSTS. Wikipedia articles should be mostly based on secondary sources.
- As an example, the sentance "Ayala is a coach and shares his entrepreneurial experience to educate people about the importance of teamwork in an organizational structure." looks promotional to me, and looking at the source attached to it (https://www.ibtimes.com/nick-ayala-being-ideal-leader-competitive-business-world-3602155), that is a contributed source, not subject to editorial oversight, and serves to promote the subject. It doesn't seem to even mention the word "coach". It's unclear who wrote it, which makes me think it might have been commissioned by the subject. Generally when thinking about sources, it's also worth thinking what sources are WP:RELIABLE. Hope that helps. -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:00, 31 October 2022 (UTC)

Liz Truss Article: merge 'Trussonomics' proposal
Hello again,
A proposal was opened on 21 Oct. at: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Trussonomics#Proposed_merge_with_Liz_Truss%23Economics and I was wondering if it's not time to come to a decision about it? Would you be willing to do so? Thank you, Billsmith60 (talk) 13:16, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Billsmith60, thanks for your message. I'd agree it probably is time for someone to close it ideally, as it's been over a week. However I don't tend to get involved with merge requests, and try to avoid political articles where possible, so I'm recommend finding someone else to close it. Livio Castiglioni draft
Good morning! I few weeks back, you (kindly) pointed out that I would benefit from reading the definition of "Minor edit" more closely (done). You also mentioned in passing that I could bounce "any issues" off of you (hope I'm not misreading this). May I ask you to have a quick look at an article I've been working on? This is my first attempt at a ground-up contribution, so I'd really like to get it right. The draft is here:
Draft:Livio Castiglioni - Wikipedia
Apart from any general advice/guidance on the overall piece (tone, syntax, referencing, layout, etc.) you'd be willing to share, I'm wondering what the next step is— should I publish "as is", submit for review, or is there some other path one should follow? (Also, unsure how to add relevant Categories and WikiProjects while working in the Draft space.) Many thanks, ~~~~ Cl3phact0 (talk) 11:07, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Cl3phact0 Thank you for your message, am always happy to help where I can! Just glancing at it quickly (I've not proof-read it), overall it looks good. You shouldn't have any external links in the "See also" section though as that's just for wikilinks (as per WP:SEEALSO), you need a separate "External links" section for those (see WP:ELCITE) which would come after "References" - I've fixed that for you. You don't put Categories on Draft articles as per WP:DRAFTNOCAT, though you can put extra colons on to disable them in the short-term. I've added some WikiProject tags to the talk page for you, but they wouldn't be rated until the article is published. In theory you could just move it to mainspace yourself, but I generally recommend if it's your first article it should be submitted through WP:AFC, and there's a "Submit the draft for review!" button that does that. Be aware there is a backlog at AFC, so it may take a few weeks before it's reviewed. WikiQuote is also not a reliable source, so I'd suggest replacing that reference with something better. Hope that helps! -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:26, 13 November 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, that helps! Thank you very much. I'll try to find some more time next few days to refine it a bit more taking your advice into consideration, and then I guess I'll just hit that "Submit" button and see what happens. Cheers, ~~~~ Cl3phact0 (talk) 11:43, 13 November 2022 (UTC)

Help needed for this article Nicholas J. Ayala
I've already shared with you my connection with this person before. A few days ago the image and some text were removed by MrsSnoozyTurtle. But permission was already taken from Wikimedia commons for the image. Now I want to add it back. Also, I've created a request to edit, on the article talk page. But I didn't receive a response from anyone. So, how can I add the image and the references to the article. Please suggest to me🙏🙏
Regards Goldabrun (talk) 17:22, 17 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Goldabrun. For the edit request, I suggest patience I'm afraid, as there is a significant backlog and it's all handled by volunteers. I'd recommend being more specific on your edit request exactly what you want and where references should go though, as that'll make it easier for someone to process. For the article, it looks like an admin (Kuru) removed some sources as they weren't reliable sources (as per WP:RS), before MrsSnoozyTurtle did some further editing. Regarding the image, I'm not overly familar with copyrights, but looking at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nickolas_J._ayala.jpg if it's still copyrighted I don't see how it's also licensed under Creative Commons. I suggest asking at WP:TEAHOUSE for someone who may be able to help you more. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:07, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

Template message removal request for Andres De Los Reyes article
Hello!
I wanted to ask you a quick question about the close paraphrasing tag that was placed on Andres De Los Reyes. I looked over the page this morning and I cannot find any close paraphrasing between the page and the external source listed in the tag. I went through the version history and saw that several revisions to the page had been made since the tag was placed. If you have the time, could you look over the page and assess whether the template message about close paraphrasing still applies? If the message is still relevant, please let me know what I can do to further remedy the issue.
Thank you so much for your help! Parodda (talk) 15:54, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Parodda thanks for your message. I put that tag on based on the results from https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&oldid=1120562878&action=compare&url=https%3A%2F%2Fpsyc.umd.edu%2Ffacultyprofile%2Fde-los-reyes%2Fandres
- Whilst I'd expect some phrases to be duplicated, like "Director of the Comprehensive Assessment and Intervention Program", because that's the name of something, the sentance "He uses these paradigms to test questions using experimental, controlled observation, naturalistic, and quantitative review research designs" from the article is very similar to "I leverage these paradigms to test questions using a suite of experimental, controlled observation, naturalistic, and quantitative review designs" from the webpage. That's just an example. I hope that helps. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:01, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
ArbCom 2022 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:44, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – December 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. (T319449)
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 12, 2022 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.
- The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add
/64
to the end of an IP in Special:Contributions to see all of a subnet's edits, and consider blocking the whole subnet rather than an IP that may change within a minute.

Please clean up (my hack [486958 Arrokoth ()]) by moving it to [486958 Arrokoth]. That is the naming convention on WP. Thanks. — kwami (talk) 19:33, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- Kwamikagami Done. That was originally requested at WP:RM/TR, but I have now completely undone that move and associated wikilink changes. -Kj cheetham (talk) 20:18, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. There are possibly thousands of MP names that are absolutely unique, and many thousands more that are unique as WP article titles, but it would be a nightmare to try having discussions for all of them. So by default we use the full MPC names, with just a few outliers like Ceres and Pluto. That is debatable given WP naming conventions, but is a practically necessary exception to the rule, one that I think is followed by all wikipedias. — kwami (talk) 20:52, 21 December 2022 (UTC)
- That makes sense. I'll certainly bare it in mind the next time I see a similar move request. Pluto is certainly a special case! -Kj cheetham (talk) 20:56, 21 December 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Kj cheetham,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Please advise
Hi, in 2021 I created an article about a scientist Wojciech Karlowski and you kindly helped me to publish it. Now, I noticed that there is a tag on the article informing about my possible connection to the subject. Unfortunately, I was not aware that this may be a problem. I'm related to the subject but the article is based on pure and well documented facts. There is no personal opinion or anything subjective in the article. Could you please advise how should I proceed now? Should I delete the article or is there any way to remove the tag? I just don't want to leave it like this. Thank you a lot and best regards. -- Msciszewianka (talk) 13:39, 5 January 2023 (UTC)
- Msciszewianka, thanks for your message. I'll take a look and get back to you in the next few days. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:28, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for your help. -- Msciszewianka (talk) 19:09, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Msciszewianka I've had a closer look than I did previously. I've tagged the article talk page about your conflict of interest, and left some further information on your own talk page. It doesn't look overly subjective to me, so I've removed the tag you referred to, but I've added another tag as most of the references are primary. There should be more references which are secondary (i.e. not written by the subject or their institution) to back it up, especially when several of the facts don't seem to be verified and hence may need to be removed at some point. I hope this helps at least partially. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:49, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, thank you very much for your support. To be honest, the situation is quite difficult for me because I created this article purely as a source of information for the community. There is no conflict of interest or promotional or any other similar purpose. I will also confirm it on my talk page because I hope to contribute more to the Wikipedia in the future, of course, following the Wikipedia rules. Unfortunately, it seems there is a problem associated with this article that I didn’t know about and therefore, maybe the best way would be to just remove the article.
- I'm sorry to hear it's difficult, though I can understand. Because of your relationship, it's an WP:ACTUALCOI even if not being promotion, but should also be aware that that's just a statement of fact (see WP:COINOTBIAS). You can still make some uncontraversial edits to the article (as per WP:COIADVICE and WP:COISELF). If you do want to go down the deletion route in the end, neither of us can just delete the article. Would need to open an WP:AFD discussion (which I can do for you) which lasts for 7 days before an administrator either marks it to keep or deletes it. As it's a biography of a living person, WP:BLPDELETE applies. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:22, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

- Thank you very much for your help. -- Msciszewianka (talk) 19:09, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Regarding the missing references, as far as I understand I’m not allowed to edit this article anymore. Therefore, I would like to explain them in detail:
- - 3-month internship in Cologne – there is a document confirming it, however, it is not published on the web, and for this reason it cannot be cited. Of course, I can send it to you. If this is not enough, this sentence should be removed.
- I'll just delete the sentance. It needs to be verifiable by others not just me. It doesn't need to be a source that's online, but it should be published at least (e.g. in a book in a library).
- - 1997-2000 Postdoctoral Fellowship at UCLA – the same as above, documents are available. However, the affiliations from the Reference #3 clearly confirm the presence at UCLA and the name of the PI. He is also mentioned as a former Postdoc at the webpage of Ann Hirsch Lab: https://sites.lifesci.ucla.edu/mcdb-hirschlab/people-2/
- I'll add that as a reference too, but that isn't verified is the date range, so I've just removed that part.
- - 2001-2004 Scientist in Munich – the same as above, documents are available. However, the affiliations from the References #4, 5, 6 and 7 clearly confirm the presence at MIPS and the name of the PI.
- Again I'll remove the specific date range, as that's not verified.
- - One of his most scientific achievements during that time – this is a statement based on scientific work published at that time – the Reference #7 was published in the most influential journal with a high impact factor (IF). This is an objective statement, not personal.
- To me that just confirms it's a significant achievement, not it's "one of his most". I'll edit it slightly.
- - 2004 position at AMU in Poznan - documents with dates are available. Confirmation of Associate Professor position: Reference #1 and https://recenzenci.opi.org.pl/sssr-web/site/people-details?personId=a905d27380f676fb&lang=en
- Are the documents accessible? I'll remove the date in the meantime.
- - 2007 3-month internship in Perpignan – the Funding Section and the affiliations in the Reference #8 confirm the presence in this lab.
- Doesn't confirm it was 3 months, or the Marie Curie Host Fellowships for the Transfer of Knowledge program.
- - 2009 own research group – documents with dates are available. Confirmation of own group: https://afproject.org/bioinformatyka/kontakt.php ; https://amu.edu.pl/uniwersytet/wyszukiwarka-pracownikow/osoba?id=10001630 ; http://ibmib.home.amu.edu.pl/pl/zaklad-biologii-obliczeniowej/
- - 2014 Professor at AMU – documents with dates are available. Confirmation of Professor position: Reference #1 and https://recenzenci.opi.org.pl/sssr-web/site/people-details?personId=a905d27380f676fb&lang=en
- Can confirm the professorship in 2014, but not the date of forming the group.
- Thank you, a lot, for your help and I’m sorry about the problem I created. Best regards, -- Msciszewianka (talk) 19:55, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hope my most recent edits help. Even something like a published CV would verify the dates. However overall the article still suffers from a lack of secondary sources. They are mostly still primary. Secondary sources help to show notability, beyond what the subject writes themselves. You may also wish to get additional help at the WP:TEAHOUSE, as I've probably done all I can with regards editing it at this stage. The only other thing I can potentially do is open a deletion discussion to argue they are not sufficiently notable, which I generally try to avoid doing. The criteria by which academics are determined to be notable or not is WP:NPROF. Hopefully this doesn't overly complicate things. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:22, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Kj cheetham, I would like to thank you one more time for your support and your edits. I will search for additional references to confirm the dates and for secondary sources as well. It can take a while. I hope the deletion process will not be necessary. Could you please only remove the [according to whom?] since this is not 'one of his most scientific achievements' anymore and the reference confirms that this is a scientific achievement? Thank you and all the best, -- Msciszewianka (talk) 14:46, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- Dear Msciszewianka, happy to help where I can. :) There is no deadline to Wikipedia overall. I've removed the tag as requested. -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:28, 8 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, Kj cheetham :) I learned a lot from you. I will do my best. -- Msciszewianka (talk) 15:48, 8 January 2023 (UTC)

I'm a bit uncomfortable about the "hopes he can one day be an admin" bit though as it's feels like potential canvassing (WP:CANVASS), and I'm not sure if I even want to be an admin really either! Maybe you could change it to something about science or biographies or castles? As those are the areas I tend to look at mostly. - Also, I'm not quite sure about the Scottish castle thing, because the message is something that other users want for you, like I put for PCN02WPS "and hopes he can win the WikiCup" so I could say "and hopes that he can own a Scottish castle", which could work, or something else if you would like. - Following an RfC, the administrator policy now requires that prior written consent be gained from the Arbitration Committee to mark a block as only appealable to the committee.
- Following a community discussion, consensus has been found to impose the extended-confirmed restriction over the topic areas of Armenia and Azerbaijan and Kurds and Kurdistan.

Regarding Bryan Legends page
I have added the author deletion tag as i want to categorise this article for Speedy deletion and i would appreciate if you don't revert my edit. I have blanked the page in goodwill as I'm allowed to.
This page is causing more problems than its worth and it's already marked afd so I'm escalating the process. Hoping for ur cooperation! Panthermail (talk) 08:35, 2 February 2023 (UTC)
- Panthermail, that doesn't seem like goodfaith blanking to me, it seems like trying to circumvent the AfD process. It is not suitable for G7 speedy deletion because other people have already edited quite a few times. Being the author doesn't mean you own the content. Please comment on the AfD if you have a case for it to be deleted. Further blanking of content will likely only be seen as disruptive editing. -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:43, 2 February 2023 (UTC)

Question about decorum
Hello Kj cheetham, I hope you are well. May I ask your advice on a matter of decorum? I recently made some fairly significant changes to a previously rejected draft article about Yinka Ilori MBE. (He was on my list of people to write about, and I'm not entirely certain how I initially stumbled across the rejected draft, though I've now figured out that piece of the puzzle.) My question is: Is it okay to edit someone else's drafts (in Draft namespace) if they have not yet been submitted? (I've found another draft of an article about someone who I had also though of writing about, but this one hasn't yet been submitted — so I didn't want to inadvertently step on anyone's toes.) Thanks for you help (once more). Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 07:43, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Cl3phact0, thanks for your message! As you hopefully know, it is policy that no one WP:OWNs an article, and as per WP:DRAFT, "anyone, including users who are not logged in, may create and edit drafts." This is part of collaborating after all. If you're doing signifcant changes to a draft another editor has recently been working on, it might be worthwhile leaving them a courtesy message on their talk page, though I'd imagine they'd quickly see your changes if they are watching the page. If it's a draft created by a newer editor, they may not appreciate any removal of what they consider to be "their" content. I've not looked at the specifics of the drafts you mentioned though. I'd be much less inclined to edit draft articles in userspace though, as opposed to draftspace. Hope that helps! -Kj cheetham (talk) 11:29, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Opinion regarding Zubeen Garg discography
Hey! I had to say something regarding both the articles list of songs recorded by Zubeen Garg and Zubeen Garg discography. The discography article was created a year ago but the songs recorded article was created years back so i think that giving a notability question mark on "list of songs recorded by Zubeen Garg" doesn't seem to be accurate rather it should be on the discovery article as the article is very unorganised and poorly sourced.
Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Discographymen (talk • contribs) 14:42, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- Discographymen, thank you for your message! That's fair enough. I primarily tagged it the way round I did because I was assuming "Zubeen Garg discography" was a more appropriate title, though MOS:DISCOGRAPHY wasn't completely clear to me. The two articles don't cover exactly the same scope, but I still don't believe both are needed, so I'll have a think about that. I'll swap the tags in the meantime though. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:11, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for your response! I think the article "list of songs recorded by Zubeen Garg" is necessary as it contains 1000+ songs and it would make the main article "Zubeen Garg" very large and chaotic. Also, it is sourced with more than 400 references and according to this it can be a stand alone article. Discographymen (talk) 20:34, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
- I definitely don't think it should be added to the main article, I just think it doesn't need both the "list of" and "discography" articles. I'll propose a merge. -Kj cheetham (talk) 20:06, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
Zubeen Garg
Hello admin, can you please see Zubeen Garg's page. One user continuously adding fake award nominations while National Film awards never published any official nomination list. Clearly fan made edits Rtyggu (talk) 08:58, 14 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Rtyggu, I'm not an admin, just a regular volunteer. I'm not familar with what are reliable sources in this area, so I may not be able to help. I suggest raising the issue on the article's talk page though so other editors can comment. You may also wish to seek help at the WP:TEAHOUSE. - Hi Risk Engineer, thanks for your message. You're referring to [1], which was removing an external link (EL). As per WP:ELNO, external links like that are not permitted. To quote reference 7 in particular from that page, "Links to websites are permitted when the website has been used as a WP:Reliable source, but they should not be placed in the body of the article to direct readers to the organization's website or merely to verify that the organization exists, or that it has a website." -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:17, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Quick question
For some time my HotCat has not been working. I don't see any prompts to add categories at the bottom of the page. I tried disabling and enabling it, however, it did not help. Is the tool still functional?HRShami (talk) HRShami (talk) 06:44, 24 February 2023 (UTC)
- Hi HRShami, thanks for your message, and sorry for my slow reply to your quick question! WP:HOTCAT is working fine for me, and disabling and enabling it is about the limit of my ability to trouble shoot it. Maybe ask on the HotCat talk page or WP:TEAHOUSE for help if it's still not working? -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:17, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage
Hi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Samwalton9 (WMF), thanks for your message. I am aware of it and was already watching that page, but haven't had time to study it in much detail. I myself am mostly a "middle of the queue" reviewer, as I tend to pick from User:SDZeroBot/NPP sorting/STEM and User:SDZeroBot/NPP sorting/Culture/Biography/Women most of the time, though do try to go for the older ones on there when I remember to sort the list by Created. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:44, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Cherry Kinoshita
Can you mention which references on this page you felt were unreliable? Thanks. Windsong0425 (talk) 17:25, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Windsong0425, thanks for your message regarding Cherry Kinoshita. It was all Densho Encyclopedia references. Though looking at https://encyclopedia.densho.org/about/ more carefully and digging out Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_202#Densho_Encyclopedia it sounds like can get away with it, though isn't ideal. It would be better to use the references that Densho Encyclopedia refers to where possible, but I'm happy for you to remove the tag I placed if you'd like. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:40, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will remove the tag. I am doing light edits to a page that was set up some time ago by someone else. I may add references as time permits. Eleanor Windsong0425 (talk) 19:05, 2 March 2023 (UTC)
Page titles
Hello Kj cheetham can you please explain your stance on refusing a move to use of plurals on page names. I am familiar with WP:Singular but there are always exceptions, and the use of plural on all the page titles (many longstanding, and of which there are many more) I gave as examples are evidence of this. For redirect purposes in many cases the use of a plural name avoids the use of an ambiguation page. --Iztwoz (talk) 18:15, 5 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Iztwoz, thanks for your message. I'm not refusing it, I only made a comment and contested it as a technical request on procedural grounds. It was UtherSRG who contested it last time ([2]) and hence it's now a WP:PCM and so should go to a full WP:RM discussion. -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:31, 5 March 2023 (UTC)

Peter Kimbowa
Hi Kj cheetham. After your post at the Teahouse and my comment on the Talk Page of Peter Kimbowa I had a look at the article itself. It is in a very poor state, with multiple external links in the text, in violation of WP:ELPOINTS. Some of these could be turned into citations but most need to be removed entirely. Is this something you are motivated to do? Let me know here, where I'll be looking out for your comment. If you don't want to do the tidy-up, I'll give it a go. I'll also make sure the COI editor doesn't add anything they shouldn't. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:25, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Michael D. Turnbull, thank you for your message. I'll have a quick go today or tomorrow, then leave it to you if that's okay. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:36, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Michael D. Turnbull, I've mostly given up with it already, so over to you. I trimmed the ELs, but the vast bulk of it is unsourced and/or promo, so it probably needs cutting down a lot I suspect. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:04, 15 March 2023 (UTC)
- Others have removed those links and added more tags for problems with the article, so I'm going to leave it alone: I've no interest in dealing with the remaining problems. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:09, 16 March 2023 (UTC)
- That's fair enough, thank you for your time looking at this nonetheless! -Kj cheetham (talk) 14:15, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Amy Heckerling article
Hello Kj--thanks so much for making this article better and cleaning up my infobox photo addition--my first time with an infobox, so I have a lot to learn. I'm writing to ask about the potential copyright issue you flagged. I'd like to help resolve that issue if I can. In fact, I'd like to make the whole piece better. I couldn't believe there wasn't even a photo of this amazing filmmaker!
One more quick question: I don't understand why there are two television sections toward the bottom of the article. One says it needs expansion, but I'm thinking the longer television section below it takes care of that. Perhaps I'm missing something?
Thanks again for caring about Heckerling! Gcampbel (talk) 12:02, 1 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Gcampbel, thanks for your message! I'm still learning and I've been editing Wikipedia for years now. :) For the copyright issue, if you look at https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Amy_Heckerling&url=https://www.idolnetworth.com/amy-heckerling-net-worth-77849 it shows which parts have seemingly been copied. I have not looked into it closely though. Some of it is just quotes, which are usually okay. Sometimes other websites copy from Wikipedia, which is a different issue.
- Regarding the two Television sections, good question! I don't see why there are two... they should probably be combined into a single one, but the first one is roles as an actor, the 2nd is roles as a director/write/producer/creator, so I'm not sure how best to combine them or otherwise make it clearer. You might want to ask at WP:TEAHOUSE for assistance.
- Hope this helps a bit! -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:48, 3 June 2023 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.
Assessment of Angela Merkel
Hi! I saw that you added project assessments for Angela Merkel; all of the classify the article as B-class. However, the top-level template labels it C-class as of a recent reassessment by User:Wow. Is there a particular reason for the difference between the project assessments and the general assessment? Actualcpscm (talk) 12:02, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Actualcpscm, thanks for your message! I absolutely disagree it should have been recently rated as C-class. It seems my semi-automated rating tool (WP:RATER) doesn't understand the general assessments, so only set the project ones when I classed it as B. I'll look into asking if the tool itself can be updated going forward though as I know the general ones are slowly becoming preferred than individual project ratings. -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:51, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the clarification! I think the brief downgrade was due to a lot of CN tags being placed in the article, but that‘s been resolved with the editor who originally reassessed it. Happy editing! Actualcpscm (talk) 09:54, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
- I just noticed someone has already asked about the newer general ratings at User_talk:Evad37/rater.js#Move_article_quality_rating_into_banner_shell, but doesn't sound promising, so might need a new tool at some point... In any case, keep up the good work! -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:55, 10 June 2023 (UTC)

Question from Landplane123
Hi Kj cheetham,
I'm reaching out to you as you recently gave me feedback on an edit that I made. I just created an article for Colin Leonard and was informed that it is being discussed for a speedy deletion. Can you check it out and let me know what I need to do on my end to keep it up?

Thank you so much, Landplane123 (talk) 03:46, 16 June 2023 (UTC)landplane321
- Landplane123, thanks for your message. I'll have a better look later, but wanted to note that's not a speedy deletion discussion, it's a regular AfD discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Colin Leonard which lasts at least 7 days typically, and others will comment as well before anything happens. Also note that pointing out that other similar articles exist often isn't a valid arguments as per WP:OTHERSTUFF. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:56, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks so much for checking it out. I added an award as well as Colin Leonard placing #2 on Jaxsta's top 50 mastering engineers of 2022. Hopefully that will add to his notability.
- Best, Landplane123 (talk) 16:07, 16 June 2023 (UTC)landplane321
- I'm not familar enough with music notability guidelines to comment on the AfD really (beyond referring to WP:GNG), but adding references showing award certainly does no harm for notability. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:45, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello Kj cheetham,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Hello Kj cheetham, thank you for following-up on the recently published Cheryl McKissack Daniel article (my first AfC review). I noticed that you moved the {{WIR-00-2023}}
wrapper template into the banner shell. Can you have a glance at my note in Talk explaining why I placed it where I did, and let me know if any objection to my moving out again? Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:59, 5 July 2023 (UTC)
- Cl3phact0, thanks for your message. I wanted to this say is on my radar and I'll try and reply tomorrow. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:47, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Ok thanks for letting me know. This is partly a question of usage of the c. 300 existing WIR wrapper templates, but the main issue surrounding this is really a proposal to merge all of these wrappers in to one. It's a bit over my head technically, however I've been drawn into the discussion (perhaps to my detriment), as I do see the merit in keeping the system largely as it is. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 05:33, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- Cl3phact0, firstly apologies I didn't see your comment at Talk:Cheryl_McKissack_Daniel#Post-publication before I did https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Cheryl_McKissack_Daniel&diff=prev&oldid=1163533323. That was done as part of my use of a semi-automated tool, namely WP:RATER.

- I don't have an hour to read all the other threads, but looks like two main issues there - including about merging the various WIR together, and whether WIR templates should be inside the banner shell. The first seems to have stemmed from Template_talk:WikiProject_banner_shell#Detecting_duplicate_banners, but the latter is what I'm concerned with here.
- From my point of view, there is a problem more widely with talk page clutter (e.g. Wikipedia:Village_pump_(idea_lab)/Archive_34#Thinking_about_a_radical_reduction_of_talk_page_banners), but there being more use of banner shells seem to help combat that. They used to be for articles with at least 3 or 4 projects, but are now able to use even with no projects.
- Even Vital tags are now inside the banner shell: Wikipedia_talk:Talk_page_layout#Vital_tags_should_be_placed_with_WikiProjects and Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Vital_Articles/Archive_3#TfD_follow-up:_Fate_of_the_vital_article_talk_banner.
- I'd asked about WIR in the banner shell in 2021 at Template_talk:WIR#Inside_or_outside_the_banner_shell?. The tool I use for rating automatically puts many of the WIR templates into the banner shell, which I fully support. I see absolutely no reason why the WIR project warrants the banners being outside the shell. So until there is consensus, ideally beyond the WIR project, I will contine to move those banners into the shell as the Rater tool already does. It would cause me (and other who do similar) more work if anything to stop doing that as well.
- I hope this makes my point of view clearer? Of course I won't be resorting to edit warring though. :) -Kj cheetham (talk) 15:30, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the links to these resources. I'm not surprised that this has been the subject of previous discussion, and am glad to now have links to find these. WP:RATER looks intriguing as well – may well be adding this one to the toolbox, so thanks for that too!
- I'll try to read as much of the above as I can so as to better understand your point of view. Point taken about the amount of sunk hours in this and wouldn't dream of asking anyone to read the whole of it. I tried to briefly summarise my thinking here (second paragraph – which seems like it may pull in the other direction). I'm an aesthete and think of the wrappers as a aide-memoire flourish of sorts, but there seem to be important technical/workflow issues at stake too. Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:17, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- I'm more a scientist, so I look at things from a more technical point of view I suspect. I did wonder if a wrapper within a wrapper might be an option, but that would just hide the WIR templates further. I'm also trying to approach things from a Wikipedia-wide viewpoint, rather than just a single project (though I fully support WIR in principle). The shell banner itself is currently undergoing a lot of discussion at Template talk:WikiProject banner shell, but that's a whole other kettle of fish! -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:30, 8 July 2023 (UTC)
- Scientists and artists are cut from the same cloth (in my view). Both make things of enduing beauty, the enlightened creative processes by which they arrive are not dissimilar, and the best science is aesthetically stunning ;-) Cl3phact0 (talk) 16:40, 8 July 2023 (UTC)

Lancelot Ribeiro
Hello Kj cheetham, reaching out to you for discussing on the addition of Cleanup tag and Puffery tag by you. I appreciate recent re-organization of content but instead of deleting my contributions would like to understand what the problems with the information were that I added on the life of Lancelot Ribeiro. To the best of my knowledge, I am being objective in my approach on describing his life and career. Would like to discuss the ways forward to remove the above-mentioned tags and continue positive contribution to bettering the article as art lovers.
Regards,

- SDhivar, thanks for your message. I previously only removed a single word, "prodigious", which is a WP:PEACOCK term. The formatting has been improved overall since I placed the cleanup tag on 28 June, so I corrected some bold in the lede, reformatting the images, and removed that template just now. I've done a bit of minor editing of the text and removed the puffery tag too. I also removed the verification tag at the top and placed one on the specific section that is unreferrenced. I hope this helps. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:03, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- P.S. Keep up the good work overall! -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:07, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your prompt reply and actions. I appreciate the transparency in our discussion. I have gone through the puffery help section on Wikipedia. I am starting to get a hang of it. Still, thanks for the formatting.
- Regarding the verification of the statement by The Independent, I have added the citation/reference. For the quote by Lancelot Ribeiro in the Commonwealth Institute Lecture, I tried searching for the original source but so far have been able to find the same quote in several other London Art gallery websites like Ben Uri and also the official website of Lancelot Ribeiro. Let me know if you are able to find the source. Regarding the section name 'Career' after the 'Influence and Critical Reception' what should it be renamed as?
- Thanks once again.

- SDhivar Sorry for my slow reply, I forgot to reply to this! Thanks for adding a source. For the quote reference, I think the official website is sufficient for a quote, so I've added that, and removed the "no refs" tag from that section. I hadn't noticed there are two 'Career' sections! Maybe you could combine then and move 'Influence and critical reception' further down? Or re-arrange things a bit into "Early career" (for 1960s/70s) and "Later career" (1980s onwards), or something like that. I'm not sure what's best. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:37, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- P.S. Keep up the good work overall! -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:07, 7 July 2023 (UTC)

New Wikipedia page about "fashion" and bigotry in science
I am Eva Redei, MS, PhD, Professor Emerita from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. - YesI'mOnFire, I assume posting this here was just an error? -Kj cheetham (talk) 18:57, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
- I believed it is an error, probably because you are the person who created the page, that is why it notified you. Honestly, looking at the revision history, I'm still quite confused. 🔥YesI'mOnFire🔥(ContainThisEmber?) 01:29, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- YesI'mOnFire, thanks for your reply. It going to me as I created the page makes sense. However the revision history for that page is relatively straightforward:
- It was a regular talk page: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sukhminderpal_singh_Grewal&oldid=1165349749
- It was erronously used to draft a Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sukhminderpal_singh_Grewal&oldid=1166256963
- You inappropriately marked it for CSD U5: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sukhminderpal_singh_Grewal&oldid=1166257047
- An admin restored it to the last "good" state: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Sukhminderpal_singh_Grewal&oldid=1166265643
- Looking at your own talk page, I seriously suggest you become more familar with requirements for CSD before tagging further pages, or you may risk your activities being seen as disruptive. In this particular case, it was absolutely not appropriate for it to be tagged with WP:U5, especially given the history of the page. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:04, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- The point is I didn't read the revision history beforehand so I didn't know that the user completely replaced all of the previous version with the draft.
- If he had added his draft amongst other comments, I would normally just delete the draft. 🔥YesI'mOnFire🔥(ContainThisEmber?) 10:10, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
- YesI'mOnFire Then slow down and do a proper check before tagging articles. In any case, U5 is not appropriate for such a draft. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:25, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
