- ... that in the legend of John Faa, styled as King of the Gypsies, the Countess of Cassilis was imprisoned for life in Maybole Castle (pictured) by her husband, after he killed Faa for attempting to elope with her? Source: https://www.maybole.org/history/books/carricks%20capital/countessandgypsy.htm
- ALT1: ... that some say a Countess of Cassilis was imprisoned in Maybole Castle in a room decorated with the faces of the man she ran off with (John Faa) and his followers after they were killed by her husband?
- Reviewed:
- Comment: This is my first ever DYK, so apologies if I'm not following the process properly. Would suggest a different picture if going with something based on ALT1.

I'll review this article. PizzaKing13 (Hablame) 18:32, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
Infobox
[edit]- Is the official name supposed to be in all-caps?
- Probably not. Changed. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Lead
[edit]- "on the high street", do you mean "on High Street"? Same for the first sentence in Description
- Done. Both are technically correct, as the high street is called High Street. I think high street as a generic term is a British thing. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:07, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
Description
[edit]- "Two corners feature circular" which corners?
- "including faces around one of the windows." which window?
- Why are Robert Burns and his mother relevant to the castle?
- I just feel like this section is a little short and lacking. PizzaKing13 (Hablame) 18:44, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- I've expanded this section a bit, and removed the mention of Robert Burns as wasn't directly relevant. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:09, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
History
[edit]- Paragraph 2
- I feel the story about Faa should be split into its own section.
- "The Earl is question" → "The Earl in question"
- "is usually thought" by who?
- Delink Margaret Kennedy in Faa's story WP:OVERLINK
- Done. -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:22, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 3
- Add a comma after "end of the 16th century"
- Delink John Kennedy, 5th Earl of Cassilis in the 3rd paragraph
- Done. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 4
- "It is one of a number of castles in and around Maybole." What other castles are in and around Maybole?
- Done. I've also taken ones out of the "See also" section as per MOS:SEEALSO. -Kj cheetham (talk) 13:22, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 5
- Add a comma after "By the start of the 19th century"
- Add a comma after "and in the 1800s" + when in the 1800s?
- Done. -Kj cheetham (talk) 12:07, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 6
- Add a comma after "Around 1837"
- Why did Charles Rennie Mackintosh examine the castle?
- Done, and added a quote about Mackintosh. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 7
- Add a comma after "In 1919"
- "A photograph of spectators by the fire is found in the Maybole News Archive from July 2001." Why is this relevant?
- Why was it listed as a category A listed building?
- Done. I've replaced the sentance about the photograph completely, and expanded about becoming a listed building -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- This section feels like it groups a lot of stuff together. I suggest splitting the paragraphs 1 3 and 4 about the earls owning the castle, paragraph 2 about Faa's story, and paragraphs 5 6 and 7 about damage to the castle into their own sections. And also, move 21st century as its own section under "History"
- History
- Early use
- Legend of John Faa
- Damage to the castle
- 21st century
- Something along those lines PizzaKing13 (Hablame) 19:41, 1 November 2022 (UTC)
- Done, though I went with "20th century" rather than "Damage to the castle" for the 3rd sub-section. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
21st century
[edit]- Paragraph 2
- Add a comma after "In 2010"
- Add a comma after "In 2011"
- Done. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
- Paragraph 3
- Has that work mentioned in the last sentence not started yet?
- I don't know. The last updated "latest news" on https://www.regeneratingmaybole.scot/ was back on 8 August 2022. I couldn't find any more recent news online, and the Autumn 2022 newsletter on https://www.maybole.org/news/index.htm hasn't come out yet. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:43, 2 November 2022 (UTC)
