Getting really (reaaaaaaaaaaaaally!) out of hand, please have a look at this (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Fabricio_Agosto#Requested_move_18_November_2019), one of your suggestions ("Fabri (footballer, born 1987") is 200% better than the current state. "Fabricio Agosto"?! Never seen him referred as that in all his years in Spain...

By proxy, certes, by user still at it, almost unstoppable in spite of your suggestion in their talk (from 26 December). Happy 2020, and all that! --Quite A Character (talk) 01:25, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Invitation to the 2020 WikiCup

Happy New Year, Happy New Decade and Happy New WikiCup! The competition began at the start of January and all article creators, expanders and improvers are welcome to take part. If you are interested in joining, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page. Creative editors like yourself seem to enjoy taking part, and many return year after year. Signups will close at the end of January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup are Sturmvogel 66 (talk · contribs · email), Godot13 (talk · contribs · email), Vanamonde93 (talk · contribs · email) and Cwmhiraeth (talk) 07:34, 4 January 2020 (UTC)

Arbitration

  • The fourth case on Palestine-Israel articles was closed. The case consolidated all previous remedies under one heading, which should make them easier to understand, apply, and enforce. In particular, the distinction between "primary articles" and "related content" has been clarified, with the former being the entire set of articles whose topic relates to the Arab-Israeli conflict, broadly interpreted rather than reasonably construed.
  • Following the 2019 Arbitration Committee elections, the following editors have been appointed to the Arbitration Committee: Beeblebrox, Bradv, Casliber, David Fuchs, DGG, KrakatoaKatie, Maxim, Newyorkbrad, SoWhy, Worm That Turned, Xeno.

This week's article for improvement (week 2, 2020)

The pilot in command of an aircraft is the person aboard who is ultimately responsible for its operation and safety during flight. This would be the captain in a typical two- or three-pilot aircrew, or "pilot" if there is only one certificated and qualified pilot at the controls of an aircraft.

  • Thanks! I must have read the original discussion poorly, i thought you actually agreed with "Fabri (footballer, born 1987)", now see it's the exact opposite. What's your choice of title, if i may ask? --Quite A Character (talk) 15:00, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

Mark Sykes

"Belfast native" clearly refers to Mark Sykes'‎ birthplace and the NI U21 page says explicitly "Birthplace: Belfast" (as I mentioned in my edit summary) but it's in a popup so not possible to link directly to (which is why I used the Belfast Telegraph link instead). I'm going to revert your revert and I'll add the Irish FA link. Sykes clearly was born in Belfast. Dave.Dunford (talk) 14:23, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

William Gibb

Fair enough. I'm never comfortable with statistical sites at any time. I was in two minds about Gibb because they have his birthday as 1 January which could easily be an auto-default for the year, assuming 1854 is the right year, but I chose benefit of doubt. Happy to leave it alone now unless a good book source can be found. Thanks. No Great Shaker (talk) 14:33, 19 January 2020 (UTC)

Marcel Risse

I added a reference the last time. So, as far as I am concerned, the matter should be settled. But if you look closely at the references here, you'll notice that many of the season-specific references were actually not deleted from the article. Kingjeff (talk) 03:16, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

The kicker magazine references that you currently want to keep are currently redirecting to the 2019–20 season on kicker's website. Therefore, only the seasons referenced by World Football are referenced. The table you are reverting to is out-of-date by almost 2 years and doesn't even include the 2019–20 season. I am completely happy with the table I inserted and I did add the World Football reference at the top, which made the whole table sourced, and I updated the table to the most recent match that his current club played. Kingjeff (talk) 04:39, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

But there are no references for the seasons you are referring too. Kingjeff (talk) 20:17, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

I suggest you check those references you want to keep. The Kicker magazine references are only referencing the 2019–20. There is no 2019–20 season line right now. Right now, if a season is not referenced by the World Football reference, then it's simply not referenced. Kingjeff (talk) 20:40, 27 January 2020 (UTC)

On 28 January 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Tyreece John-Jules, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that English footballer Tyreece John-Jules's uncle is Red Dwarf's Cat? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Tyreece John-Jules. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Tyreece John-Jules), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Queen's Park F.C. squad template

This was deleted at a TFD a while back, when they still had amateur status and had few (if any) players with Wikipedia articles. Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [1]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

The Great Britain/Ireland Destubathon

Hi. The Wikipedia:The Great Britain/Ireland Destubathon is planned for March 2020, a contest/editathon to eliminate as many stubs as possible from all 134 counties. Amazon vouchers/book prizes are planned for most articles destubbed from England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland and Northern Ireland and whoever destubs articles from the most counties out of the 134. Sign up on page if interested in participating, we have over 44,000 stubs! A good opportunity to improve stubs on footballers!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:12, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

PLEASE, page needs to be moved. BDFUTBOL and FUTBOLME (both Spanish as subject) call him Iriome, and SOCCERWAY follows suit. So, where is Mr. Ortizesp and me wrong please?

By the time i finish writing these lines, maybe i have already been reverted, in which case i give up and article stays how you (both) want. Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 20:47, 4 February 2020 (UTC)

Apologies, for: 1 - belated reply; 2 - another misuse of rollback, i'll admit it now (and face the consequence if need be) i often use the feature because it's quicker and does not require a summary, not that i'm calling (in this case you) anyone a vandal, nothing further from the truth! I'll try and follow the steps to see the page moved, if i can not do it myself.

Accept my sincere apologies, continue the good work --Quite A Character (talk) 00:29, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

  • I candidly explained in Matty's page, where i pinged you, i could have been in the wrong with that move, and tried to reach a consensus (also there, i also mention it could have been an uncontested move, and presented proof to back my case up, don't know if you noticed that). Nonsense? How come?

For the record, i'll now go and try to request a move per your suggestion (but don't worry, if i can't i won't come to your page and bother you asking for help), in the meantime we'll have "González" as his sporting name, while he is addressed as "Iriome" in the storyline. No biggie for me, it stays that way. --Quite A Character (talk) 19:55, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Have already inserted said request here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Current_discussions), hopefully all was done well. Now, we wait... --Quite A Character (talk) 20:15, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for all the assistance. If you are interested please check Matty's talkpage (he has since replied to my asking his two cents), maybe his opinion will make you change your mind (or not)... Also, maybe i'm missing something, but with all respect (hey man, you're the admin!) it makes no sense to have his sporting name in the box as "Iriome González" only for us to say in the intro player is known mononymously. Also, you mentioned something about his Twitter being "IriomeGonzález24" in the move request in the talkpage. A bit irrelevant methinks, Guti (that legend of Real Madrid) played one season (if not more) with "Guti HAZ" written on his shirt to honour his children, we would not add that to his sporting name or even rename an article for that, would we?

Attentively, happy rest --Quite A Character (talk) 23:30, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

RE: Moving Pages

I'm sure it is standard practice, that's not my complaint. My complaint is that you apparently didn't check before merging and I was unable to restore so I had to redo a lot of it. I also wasn't being aggressive, just being frostily formal, which is different. It's just a little disheartening when your work gets wiped like that. I was hoping that you would understand my position and help me to understand yours.~~ Brududesom (talk) 21:04, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Re Re: Merging articles

So you checked and still did it anyway, even though there was no reason to go through with it? And stop trying to deflect the focus here - even if I was able to fully restore the page without issue, it doesn't change anything, you've still seemingly maliciously merged the draft with the page which caused me to have to do even more work to get back parts of the page that should never have been overwritten. So, I will ask you once more to explain why you merged the draft with the page when there was no need to. ~~ Brududesom (talk) 22:04, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

I just saw your message regarding my edits on Maxime Biamou. I'm assuming you're referring to the edits I made to his stats section. I thought someone got his goal stats wrong but I didn't realize it was just his league goal stats. I reverted the edit to the previous state. Thanks for the info. CrypticAbyss (talk) 16:15, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. I saw that many of the edits I made on Maxime Biamou were undone. Is this only because I didn't discuss the sources beforehand or because the information wasn't necessary? I can understand how some of the information I wrote could be deemed as redundant but in terms of sources, all the information either came from soccerbase.com or the official Coventry City site. Perhaps I didn't cite them correctly? CrypticAbyss (talk) 18:08, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Since the page is about a real person, I understand how it is especially important to ensure that all sources are verifiable. I will discuss the sources on the talk page along with a proposed draft of what I want to add as text. CrypticAbyss (talk) 18:28, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Mart 2020

I recently removed content from Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents because other moderators aggressively convinced me that I was wrong. And I just wanted to remove it so as not to be banned, maybe they are right (they sided with the user I was complaining about and just vote for the ban of my account). So, can this be removed or not? — Preceding unsigned comment added by JackAtkinson22 (talkcontribs) 14:00, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

JackAtkinson22—a step in the right direction might be signing your posts. That is done with 4 "tildes". See WP:SIGN. Do you notice that your "signature" does not look like the signatures of most of the other participants on Talk pages? That is because a "bot" is "signing" your posts for you. But you can and should do it yourself. Just type 4 tildes at the end of your post, as explained at WP:SIGN. (I hope GiantSnowman doesn't mind me weighing in here.) Date ties

Regarding your edits here - I understand our practice is to change date formats if something is obviously nationally-linked, but I'm not sure this really applies here? MacTavish's historical notability really only arises through his brief British political career; he was (by modern terms) a dual-national who lived in both countries, and I think our practice has always been to leave this sort of could-go-either-way article in whatever the existing stable format was. It's also still tagged for using British English, which is a bit of an odd mix to leave it in. Andrew Gray (talk) 20:41, 19 March 2020 (UTC)

However 3 of them - Léa Khelifi, Lina Boussaha and Sandy Baltimore have made appearances in UEFA Women's Champions League. Would that help in any means? Thanks in advance. Help

Stoorybrig (talk) 00:36, 24 March 2020 (UTC) You have made some undos on Hibs' related posts which I've only just noticed, the reason given that the references were wiki-based, but they weren't. Revive the article

Dear;

The List of ATK players has duplicated the actual content published at List of ATK (football club) players and has not done anythin' before that of. As the article is supposed to merge with it in order to avoid duplication. The authors simply pasted the materials and devoid the initial article List of ATK (football club) players usin' redirection and devastin' the actual published content. The appeal is urge deletion of this article and profound sustain of List of ATK (football club) players as it also include the article List of ATK (football club) Overseas players by the same author whereas List of ATK players is just a mere stub that doesn't enlist even more tham 3 players of the first season before the appeal of merger that one can access using the contributions and editin' history. List of ATK players is profound (upto 99.9%) duplication of the content of List of ATK (football club) players. Anyhow the author of List of ATK (football club) players managed to revive the article. The user is usin' his might immorally.

I would love if you will furnish the views at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of ATK (football club) players

Quit being disruptive; as I'm sure you know perfectly well, her notability derives almost entirely from Y Dydd Olaf (partly in Cornish) and Le Kov (all in Cornish), and she's almost certainly the most famous Cornish artist in any medium. If not for those two albums she'd just be "the one who was in a couple of incarnations of the Pipettes". Removing the fact that a Cornish artist famous for Cornish-language work is Cornish is straightforward tendentious editing. ‑ Iridescent 20:37, 28 March 2020 (UTC)

Connor Calcutt

Hi GiantSnowman. I hope you could help me out here. I'm not sure if this player, Connor Calcutt, also have played for Eynesbury Rovers. I can see that he signed with Bedford Town F.C. at the end of November 2019 and has played for the club until today. But at the same time, some sources also suggest that he have played games for Eynesbury Rovers in January and February 2020, if you look at those links: http://www.aylesburyunitedfc.co.uk/players/connor-calcutt#playingcareer, https://www.huntspost.co.uk/sport/football/local-side-stung-by-high-scoring-substitute-in-exit-against-leighton-town-1-6462805, https://www.huntspost.co.uk/sport/football/ducket-goes-from-hero-to-villain-in-spartan-south-midlands-league-draw-1-6497194. But as you can see on this link https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/bedford-town/appearances/connor-calcutt/810711, he also played for Bedford in the same period. Im confused. I hope you can help :D Fodbold-fan (talk) 22:50, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Marvin Harriot(t)

Hello. I wonder if FIFA have actually made a typo here. The sources already in the article are mixed: Neil Brown (who sourced primarily from Rothman's) and Soccerbase have two t's while FIFA has one. Have no access to the book source, and am discounting the footballzz as unreliable. If it had been me, and no other sources had been available, I'd have followed FIFA, as the article does, but I think they're wrong.

ENFA and Hugman also have two. So do the websites of some of his former clubs: Kingstonian, Scarborough, Aylesbury. So does the Conference 25th anniversary stats book, edited by that league's then official statistician: Harman, John, ed. (2005). Alliance to Conference 1979–2004: The first 25 years. Tony Williams. p. 407. ISBN 978-1-869833-52-7. So do transcriptions of birth records: search at FreeBMD; I know we can't use birth records for BLP details that haven't been published in reliable secondary sources, but I think they're acceptable to determine which published spelling is correct.

Which way would you prefer to go? I can boldly move it, and copy the above to the talk page as rationale, or go through RM. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:39, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Thomas Morren

Thanks for your edit; My edit was supported (citation https://www.national-football-teams.com/player/62932/Tommy_Morren.html was added), however from your citations I can see that source was incomplete - will avoid using it in future. Change to Lead in Edward L. Feightner Article

Hi GiantSnowman. Thank you for your edits to improve the Edward L. Feightner article, but I have a question. When you removed the aviator call sign, "Whitey", from the lead, you referenced WP:MOSNICKNAME as the rationale, but doesn't this guidance apply to the name of the article rather than the lead? When I included the call sign, "Whitey" in the lead, I followed MOS:NICKNAME that deals with names in the lead/body and states, "If a person is known by a nickname ... it is usually presented between double quotation marks following the last given name" For example, Roland Bernard "Bunny" Berigan. There are articles of Feightner's contemporaries that also use this approach (e.g. James H. Flatley, John Thach, Edward O'Hare, Floyd B. Parks). Thanks, Skeet Shooter (talk) 23:10, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Hello GS. I wanted to let you know that I know how frustrating dealing with Refill has become for you and others. I wish I could give you more info when I post about this but I can only speak from my experience. I have no clue what goes on with those who are working on the program and I wish they would be more helpful to those of use who work on fixing bare urls. On the plus side refill has started working again today and it seems to be faster in formatting the refs. I hope you have the same experience and that it stops logging you off. Re: Bassam Adeel jaleel

Hello, why is the page Bassam Adeel Jaleel being continously deleted? Please may I know the reason? I have cited references for all the information on there. Bassam Adeel Jaleel is the elected President of the Maldives NATIONAL Football Association. Its a Governmental organization.

TentacleBox (talk) 11:57, 7 April 2020 (UTC)

The reasons cited there are "Promotional article on a non-notable football executive." and "but no evidence of independent notability." by you. Seriously? Do you not see the references I have cited that are available on the internet? He is the President of the National Football Association. There is a wikipage for the Vice President of the association and it has never been deleted or edited etc. Aishath Nazima. But why this hostility towards Bassam? If there is any parts of that article that needs editing, you could ask me to improve that certain part. but why delete the whole article? Please explain why. Hi. What does it require to create a page for a football player? What is considered as a professional league? Is it, for example, allowed to create a page for a player who have played only in the Italian Serie D? Fodbold-fan (talk) 22:22, 11 April 2020 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Armenia national football teams requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Hi GiantSnowman,

I noticed an edit you reverted over the date of birth of David Corbett (footballer, born 1940). The 15 April is his listed DoB on the GreensOnScreen source used on the page already, as well as on Swindon-Town-FC.co.uk.

As Plymouth Argyle link GreensOnScreen as an official source on their own website, might I suggest their site would be more reliable than the hugmansfootballers.com & neilbrown.newcastlefans.com ones currently cited on the article?

All the best. Unnamedbanana (talk) 16:47, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Merge

Hello, I want to propose a merge between these two articles (LPS Cetate Deva and CS Mureșul Deva), its basically the same football club (old Romanian complicated stories about founding, renaming, merging and dissolving clubs), but I will come with more details in the talk page, where the merge proposal will be. Can you help me to put a merging proposal template on the talk page/s? Rhinen

PS More precisely, I want to merge CS Mureșul Deva into LPS Cetate Deva and to delete old Muresul page as well.

Opinions

Hello, I put the merge request on that page, but then I put personally some templates and the merge proposal on the talk pages of CS Mureșul Deva and LPS Cetate Deva, I hope its ok. If you want to express your opinion, you are welcomed, as always.

I have other proposals, already added here -> Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Speedy. For recently moved page FC Progresul București, players and managers categories to be moved as well. Also, I proposed (again) a move for Category:CS Minaur Baia Mare (football) players, you'll see the reason on that page, of course if you want to express your opionion. Thank you! Rhinen

Request

Can you please stop removing template:mlby from articles? Thanks.-- Yankees10 22:47, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

Callaghan MacCarty, 3rd Earl of Clancarty

Dear GiantSnowman. Thank you for the attention you gave today to the article Callaghan MacCarty, 3rd Earl of Clancarty to which I have contributed. It is rated C and still needs further improvement, no doubt. Your comment on the edit was (date formats per MOS:DATEFORMAT by script | Cleaned up using AutoEd). I am still somewhat of a novice and on an apparently endless learning curve. I hope to get some clarity from you about what is right or wrong or good practice in Wikipedia, so that you need to correct me less and less in the future. Most of your edits concerned list items where you added spaces after the leading * or #. I gather it is that AutoEd tool that does it. I have been to an introduction to Wikipedia-editing in Dublin in March this year and asked the presenter, the user Smirkybec whether list items should include such spaces. She recommended to omit them. I had been doing the opposite at the time and then corrected all lists I had written by chucking these spaces out. So now I do not know. I have looked at MOS:LIST and have not found advice concerning these spaces, but perhaps I have missed it. It is a long text. I feel that lists do look better in code with spaces, but that is probably irrelevant. Smirkybec says most editors do not look at code. Please give me some advice. With many thanks. Hi GS. I removed Rochefort FC from Senam Langueh's article because that was in the French seventh-tier, far removed from the professional career which the player is notable for. Former professional footballers often play football at lower league levels into their 40s and 50s. Do you think it's appropriate to include all that in the infobox? Where does it end? If we dig hard enough much of that can be reliably sourced.

By the way, I find a wholesale revert disrespectful of the work put in. The removal of the Rochefort stint constitutes at most a third of the changes. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 09:33, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

That does not seem to fit well with WP:EXCESSDETAIL:

"Before inserting the new material, one should consider the significance of his/her additions. Is it something the topic is widely known for? What is its connection to the topic's notability? Any indiscriminate detail should be removed. Readers might lose interest when a portion of an article goes into too much detail on one specific aspect. Other times, readers might question how so much detail on something is important to the topic. Wikipedia is not supposed to be a collection of every single fact about a subject."

Professional footballers are known for their professional careers.

Query

I have a query regarding the AFD of Cedric Xulu. There’s been no significant coverage whatsoever before his death, so it’s reasonable to assume the coverage won’t be sustained. Is that a fail for GNG? Or does the temporary coverage satisfy GNG because because it details his life in-depth? – 2.O.Boxing 11:05, 6 May 2020 (UTC)

Not sure I’m doing this correctly. The Ponce de Leon page has his birth listed as 1474 but numerous other sources say 1460. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:4600:67A0:A9D9:CCE5:B2AF:5A16 (talk) 18:18, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

Removal of height

I noticed you seem to be using AWB to remove the height of players from articles, is using an automated tool the best way to challenge this information? WP:V says Also check to see whether the material is sourced to a citation elsewhere on the page. Are the other references in the article being checked first prior to the removal of the height? Often the source is found elsewhere in the article instead of the infobox per WP:INFOBOXREF. Similar to how the player number is almost never referenced in the infobox. The same applies to the player's career and league statistics in the infobox for stub articles. Using AWB also does not account for the height mentioned with a source in prose, or a general reference. I've often sourced footballer infoboxes in the opening sentence of the article, so to me this mass removal does not seem the best way to challenge possibly unsourced information. S.A. Turkish IP on French football articles

Hi GS, There is a Turkish user, across two IPs, who is editing disruptively but possibly in good faith in French football articles. Mainly 2019–20 Ligue 2 and Ligue 2 but occasionally elsewhere. They are not responding on talk pages or leaving edit summaries, just repeatedly adding the same edits over and over again. It seems a case of not understanding what we are doing here, and obviously of not communicating.

I've written on both talk pages, but none of the other reverters have, so it doesn't appear they've been warned enough to take any action through the noticeboards.
Do you think this rises to the level of disruptive editing, and if so what action would you recommend next? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:00, 22 May 2020 (UTC)

Vasas FC -> Vasas SC rename reconsider

Hi,

I saw you initiated a speedy category renaming regarding the subject (...FC->Vasas SC players, ...FC->Vasas SC managers). See my recent edit on the article (Vasas SC), but also the lead. So the sport orgnaization overall is Vasas SC, but the football branch is Vasas FC since 2012. It is a thing that the parent article is meant for the football team, while the others have the respective name of the different sports are included, but you may reconsider to undo these changes, since just the football branch has the name FC, while all other sports SC, later problems could arose from this, if non-football players will be once categorized (though, it would be also a question if we would wish to make different categories for historic players earlier when than 2012...or any name of it's history in a special timeline respectively...however I assume possibly by any clubs the current category of a present football club may be applied backwards even if the name was different, or no?). Regards(KIENGIR (talk) 16:12, 23 May 2020 (UTC))

Hi, thank you for your message. Well..I am 50%-50%, that's why I asked your opinion. As you said, since currently it is solely for the football team, everything per article scope and name is consistent in the framework of WP. However, later this could be an issue. Thus, unless you don't see it as well necessary, I won't initiate an RM.(KIENGIR (talk) 16:17, 23 May 2020 (UTC))
Well, i.e. Zoltán Czibor is in the category "Budapest Honvéd FC players", although the club has this name only from 2003., it seems my assumption is correct about recent practise in WP. Well, there may be two solutions:
- we rename the parent article to (a), Vasas SC (football), or (b), Vasas FC (at the same time, the History of Vasas SC should be updated, since the article's scope is now only football, although recently it is and overaching sport club of many sports, so it may be a good substitute to care about the general Vasas SC...I have to also draw your attention, about the template remained untouched: Template:Vasas FC managers, so here still the "original" FC designations and it covers historic times...)
Take your choice, regarding (a) or (b)...(KIENGIR (talk) 16:57, 23 May 2020 (UTC))

Assessments for articles

Hi there, I'd like to ask you if you know how to can change an article from Stub status to a better status once the article has been fully updated and edited. This club season 2019–20 Aberdeen F.C. season is listed as a stub but I see it being better and more than just a stub. I still don't understand this so wondering if this can be re-assessed please? Many thanks Davezo33 16:36, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Terry Angus

You have deleted my revisions on Terry Angus' page but they are correct. I have amended the page at Terry Angus' request as he is a very close friend of mine and the previous data was incorrect. I have asked admin on the "biographies of living persons" noticeboard to amend it to my information which is correct. Can you please do this?

You have now removed his appearances and goals for Slough and Nuneaton completely... so they are definitely not correct. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyjedwards (talkcontribs) 18:47, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

My source is Terry Angus. His email address is tangus@thepfa.co.uk if you email him, he can confirm his non league stats to you. Mr Angus said that if you are only putting league stats on there, why have the incorrect non-league Nuneaton and Slough stats been on there for the past decade? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyjedwards (talkcontribs) 18:53, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

My Angus has just showed me a wiki page for Neil Moore and his non league stats are represented, therefore Mr Angus wants to know how his non -league stats can be added to his page

(by talk reader) @Hayleyjedwards: I think I've seen enough of your disrespect. Wikipedia is based upon published sources, not the word of somebody. I cannot emphasize enough that we do not care what's true. Please stop editing Wikipedia and tell Terry Angus that Wikipedia is not for you. Chris Troutman (talk) 19:02, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
Excuse me for butting in, but I see no disrespect on the part of the OP, just someone who doesn't know how Wikipedia works. However frustrating that may be for the more experienced among us, we don't get to tell people to "stop editing Wikipedia". There's your disrespect, right there. Bretonbanquet (talk) 19:11, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
@Bretonbanquet: I am all for helping new editors understand how we do things here. I do not accept continued demands from a CoI editor, evincing no sorrow for the offense caused or showing any desire to provide actual sources outside of "Mr Angus." Maybe you've lasted this long on Wikipedia watching your fellow editors being treated like short-order typists. I have a little more respect for our editors than you do, I guess. Chris Troutman (talk) 20:03, 26 May 2020 (UTC)
I beg to differ. Picking and choosing to whom you show respect suggests that for you, being respectful is a part-time job. This editor clearly did not know that CoI was even a problem here. Telling them to "stop editing" says more about you than it does them. As for demanding "sorrow" for causing you "offence", well, you must be very easily offended. All the best, Bretonbanquet (talk) 20:35, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Mr Angus said that the 48 games stated by Slough possibly includes ALL cup matches entered for that year. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyjedwards (talkcontribs) 19:14, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your time and effort. I fully respect that Wiki has to rely on facts or reliable sources, hence the reason why we wanted the original information changed. For your reference, Mr Angus played for Solihull, Brackley and Stratford as a favour, only signing for one-off games at each club. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyjedwards (talkcontribs) 19:23, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

I've read the updates - thank you. Just to let you know,Terry wasn't a probation officer at Princes Trust. He was a Team Leader as Princes Trust don't employ probation officers. After Prince's Trust,he became a Youth Offending Team Practitioner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hayleyjedwards (talkcontribs) 19:30, 26 May 2020 (UTC)

Curious move

This seems a curious move for an article (created by yourself) about an American. Oculi (talk) 21:03, 29 May 2020 (UTC)

FYI, I reverted it (for some reason I had that page on my watchlist). I agree, if they're American then it's soccer (much as I hate the term). Joseph2302 (talk) 21:39, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
@Oculi, Joseph2302, and Danstarr69: yep, the standard disambiguation for an American player of the sport is '(soccer)'. GiantSnowman 07:23, 30 May 2020 (UTC)

Sorry re forum

Hi, just wanted to confirm that I'm not wanting to make trouble and waste your time with my Scottish footballer amendments. As you maybe read on James Paterson edit summary, I'm very confident with the content of that particular forum due to the calibre of the contributors, and unfortunately the existing books on the subject (most of which were written before access to records was as easy as it now is to be fair) seem to have perpetuated some historical inaccuracies in the personal details over the years, rather than prompted correction. However I'm fully aware that it's too weak to be used as a source. With Paterson I was fortunate that the info has now been published in various places, so when I find other similar discrepancies I'll attempt to get a source which backs up the info in the forum - and if I can't, I'll just leave it as it shows, I realise it's arguments I'm not gonna win without proper evidence. Requesting move to Seah Kian Peng

Hi, you had placed a create block on Seah Kian Peng back in 2013 due to repeated copyright infringement. I have written a new version at Draft:Seah Kian Peng, referencing from various sources. Seah is elected into the national legislature of Singapore and had introduced new laws into Singapore's legislation. In my opinion, Seah should pass the notability presumptions in WP:POLITICIAN. If it is alright by you, can you help to move the draft into the mainspace? Thanks! – robertsky (talk) 06:35, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

Proof that Clive Griffiths (footballer) called MISL games on television

BornonJune8 (talk) 7:19, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Clive Griffiths Clive was another Comet whose life was interrupted by cancer but unlike Barry Wallace, Mr. Griffiths is happily still alive to tell about it. A fellow Brit from Wales, Griffiths played on the inaugural ’81-’82 squad and teamed up with Gino Schiraldi on the defense and also quickly became another fan favorite and was very active in the community before being stricken with testicular cancer in 1983. After undergoing successful chemo treatments, Clive returned briefly before retiring to the Comets’ front office and to the broadcast booth. Clive also served as head coach for the men’s soccer team at my alma mater, UMKC, in the late ‘80s.

BornonJune8 (talk) 7:15, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Why if I show you a video clip of Clive Griffiths doing broadcast work for the Major Indoor Soccer League's Kansas City club, is still dismissive in your world? Even if it's a YouTube club, why should your word be placed first against mine? That would kind of like be saying that I have video evidence of a robbery being taken place and I show it to you to identify the suspect. But since it isn't being covered by any reputable newspaper or such, what I presented is by default, "not true". BornonJune8 (talk) 5:13, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

How exactly is a list of MISL broadcasters "not notable"

I gave you clear and obvious (visual and audio) "evidence" that Clive Griffiths called games for the Major Indoor Soccer League but because it was on YouTube, you write it off as "not enough" (as if I'm totally making what I posted about Clive Griffiths and the MISL up). And even without that, there are detailed summaries of the television and radio coverage provided by the Los Angeles and Wichita teams in their individual Wikipedia articles, that I incorporated in the list. Also, there is "notable" coverage of Bob Carptener's MISL broadcasting career:

As well as Joel Meyers:

Bill MacDonald:

Wayne Fuller:

Bob Ley:

JP Dellacamera:

And Al Trautwig:

I work extremely hard trying to put this list together and find as many reliable sources as I can possibly find, and I'm not going to let you junk it just because you personally don't get it. I don't understand why you're so up in arms with me having to prove that Clive Griffiths broadcast games for the MISL. You might as well also do that (and be so knee-jerk) with just about any other broadcaster of a major professional sports organization like Major League Baseball, the National Football League, the National Hockey League, the NBA, etc. It seems like you're taking things from an English perspective in that you've likely never heard of the MISL (an American based professional football league), thus from your personal perspective, things like Clive Griffiths broadcasting games for the Kansas City club isn't "notable" enough for you.

BornonJune8 (talk) 5:00, 13 June 2020 (UTC)

Media coverage for the MISL has been acknowledged here:

This would be the final year the MISL would have games aired on network television, CBS broadcast Game 4 of the championship series live on May 25.[1]

And here from the year prior:

Not all news was bad. The Force and Blast routinely drew strong crowds, and the new franchise in Tacoma nearly made the playoffs. The MISL drew 2.5 million to their games, and another 300,000 attended the playoff games. One game was televised on CBS (Game 3 of the championship series on June 2), as well.

And the year before that:

The MISL continued to make inroads on national television. While the spring would see the end of the league's two-year deal with the USA Network, CBS would broadcast a playoff game live from Cleveland on May 7 that drew an estimated four million viewers.

And here's some sources of USA and CBS broadcasting the MISL in the '80s:

As well as coverage on the Hughes Television Network circa 1979:

And even ESPN:

And since I had previously mentioned Los Angeles and Wichita:

In their inaugural season, the Lazers games were broadcast on Cable Radio Network. Beginning in the second season, Bill MacDonald asked Buss and Weinstein for permission to broadcast the Lazers home games on KBOB radio in Pasadena. MacDonald's family agreed to purchase the air time, and MacDonald's long running career was launched.[2] During the 1983–84 season, the Lazers made the first entree into the television arena by broadcasting a few games on the Lakers and Kings KCAL 9 television network. Chick Hearn, the Lakers broadcaster, and Bob Miller, the Kings broadcaster, shared the play-by-play responsibilities. During the 1984–85 season, the Lazers began to broadcast their games on Prime Ticket, which was the regional sports network created by Dr. Jerry Buss for Southern California. This first Lazers broadcast was only the second event to have ever been aired on the Prime Ticket Network. Joel Meyers, a new and upcoming telecaster, joined MacDonald to become the dynamic team that announced every play from then on for the Lazers.[3]

The Wings would appear nationally on the USA Network, ESPN, and CBS.[4] Their first local television contract was with KSN-TV (NBC) and announcer Dave Armstrong in 1981-82. KSN would continue to broadcast the Wings through the 1985-86 season. Other announcers included Craig Bolerjack, Mike Kennedy, and Steve Dennis. Former Wing Joe Howarth and Director of Media Relations Steve Shaad, respectively, would serve as the color commentator for several of those seasons. The 1986-87 season saw KAKE-TV (ABC) take over the broadcast. Mark Allan would be their announcer through the 1988-89 season. The Wings would have no television contract thereafter.[5] KFH Radio (1330 AM) would broadcast the Wings from 1981 through 1986, with first Bruce Haertl and then Jim Hawley announcing. Steve Shaad, Blake Schreck, and Klaus Kollmai served as color commentators on the KFH broadcasts. In 1986, KRZ (1240 AM) took over the radio broadcasting, with Dave Phillips as announcer. As KNSS, they would continue to broadcast the Wings through the 1989-90 season. Phillips would be the voice of the Wings with KZSN (1480 AM) through the 1993 season. Steve Dennis took over KZSN's announcing duties in 1994 and continued through the transition to KFH in 1995-96. Former Wings goalkeeper Kris Peat served as announcer in 1996-97. In 1997, Rob Barzegar and KQAM (1480 AM) became the Wings radio broadcaster.[5]

Ellie Nesler

I notice Ellie Nesler had been deleted. I found some news articles about her case and would be interested in making another attempt:

My understanding is that it's unusual for a murder case to get that level of a national coverage. Also her crime, that she killed a person who had allegedly victimized her child at a courtroom would be unusual under any stretch of the measure. There was also a television film based on the case: "Judgment Day: The Ellie Nesler Story" WhisperToMe (talk) 16:01, 14 June 2020 (UTC)

Did the edits! I found statements from the two articles that support notability as being a unique case, as well as a citation for the TV movie WhisperToMe (talk) 02:21, 15 June 2020 (UTC)

William Mariner was an Englishman who lived in Tonga from 29 November 1806 to (probably) 8 November 1810. He later published Tonga Islands, an account of his experiences that is now one of the major sources of information on Tonga before it was significantly influenced by European culture and Christianity. Hi I’m Jackies niece I have a couple of photos of my late uncle would they be able to be put on wiki Lauram231 (talk) 13:41, 22 June 2020 (UTC)

Riyad Mahrez

Why do you revert my changes to links his Le Havre career to the corresponding Ligue 2 seasons in his stats table? But for the youth team and when he is at Quimper, it is linked to the league season pages and not the club season pages. This makes no sense. There is no particular need for those Le Havre seasons to have their own page as it wouldn't be more than a stub. Plus those Ligue 2 seasons are not linked anywhere else in his wikipedia article so it actually is a good thing to link to them there.Rupert1904 (talk) 13:44, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Hey - I saw your note, thanks for writing back. That is really my point though. Those Le Havre seasons are not really notable just as the Quimper seasons are not notable. People haven't even created articles for many of Lyon's title winning seasons so it seems like these could all be red links forever. Rupert1904 (talk) 14:34, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

reversions of template:Rotherham United F.C. squad

Hi GS. I'm confused at your reversions of the above template. The first one, OK, I had removed Julien Lamy who is still contracted until 30th June, and I appreciate that. The second reversion was just of loan players, who have returned to their parent clubs, or returned from clubs they were loaned to at the termination of those seasons. Both your reversions reintroduced factual errors (Barlaser was recalled in March, Hastie in January, Tilt was allocated number 23, Southern-Cooper is now recognised as Cooper, and Gratton has been added to the squad as a pro)

Can you help me understand this please? Cheers, Gricehead (talk) 09:53, 24 June 2020 (UTC)

Title: Revered changes to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom%C3%A1%C5%A1_%C4%8Cern%C3%BD

Hello GiantSnowman, I am Tomas Cerny and I teach at Baylor University, the current Wiki page on my name is misleading since multiple individuals have the same name. I believe I have the right to add there the famous opera single and myself next to a sportsman. Please explain what did I do wrong when adding there a list of 3 people with that same name on the given page.

If you suggest me following this approach https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Smith e.g. Tomas Cerny (soccer player); Tomas Cerny (opera singer) pages, I can do that and am open to advise on the best practice. Should I create a new page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomas_Cerny_(professor) (or computer scientist)? If so should I then fix the (soccer) page as well?

You stated explain “integral”, so I removed it, and added the goals that contributed to the title. Not mentioning the league title and his contribution to that is not encyclopaedic. Barton Dave (talk) 21:06, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

Mentioned validation for “decisive” on my talk page: see the sources. It’s not saying he was “decisive” to the league title, rather those specific games. I’m not arguing with you as ultimately you were correct in removing what I’d first added (the integral claim had previously been added by someone else). His contributions away from home were particularly notable throughout the season, and did contribute to the title. Barton Dave (talk) 21:16, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

An IP who claims to be the man himself is repeatedly removing the section covering the confrontation with Mark Stein, objecting to the fact that Stein claimed he attacked Gannon because Gannon racially abused him. No doubt the recent Black Lives Matter protests have drawn attention to it and he's sensitive about it as he is still in management. the Stoke player Mark Stein assaulted an opponent, Jim Gannon, because he had called him 'a short, ugly, black, bean-headed twat'. Stein's reaction was hardly surprising - seems a pretty solid source to me. But I don't know how the source of the article himself complaining about it affects things.--EchetusXe 10:21, 3 July 2020 (UTC)

Stop making personal threats towards me on my talk page

If you want to disagree with me over what is suitable on Wikipedia that's fine, but I'm not going to appreciate you condescendingly leaving messages on my talk pages, instead of taking it to the appropriate AFD! And why are you saying in the same sentence that I'm not going to change your mind no matter what, and shortly there after, say that I should read what others are saying? Greg Docherty

You need to get a life and stop adding to my talk page - disruptive editing, what planet you on?

That is Docherty's new squad number as per the clubs website. It is probably easier to search this than go around reverting other pages and messaging other users.

I see User:CoatbridgeChancellor has updated the squad numbers on the main Rangers F.C. page... don't see you messaging him.

I suggest you do not add to my user page again and if you have any issues with me using Wikipedia then go ahead and use you Gestapo powers to get me blocked, absolutely pathetic.

Jm Tinnion and conversion templates

Hello. I don't know whether the conversion should be inside or whether it'd be better parenthesised outside, possibly the latter, but what your first edit did was change the height mentioned from 6 ft to 6 ft 2 in. The output, not the code. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 21:10, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

Ilmari Niskanen

Hi! You claimed that I changed the content of the page Ilmari Niskanen without citing a source. That is incorrect: I did add the source to the text. Adding the sources directly to the player stats makes the final result really cluttered, especially if there are several sources for different competitions. --Pajicz (talk) 22:00, 11 July 2020 (UTC)

GS, I know you do a great deal of football related articles. Football/soccer isn't my specialty but I came across Marinaro's article and it had two categories in it, Sportspeople involved in betting scandals and Association football controversies but there is nothing in the article to back them up so I removed[12] them. I did find this old edit[13] where mention of some controversy was removed from article. As the source for the controversy appears to be some forum(The link is dead now) its removal may have been proper. I'm just bringing this to your attention if you might want to fix things up. Should Marinaro been involved in some controversy, and it can be properly referenced, it can go back in the article....William, is the complaint department really on the roof? 13:18, 17 July 2020 (UTC)

Scott Calderwood

I'll certainly admit I don't have any documented evidence that he has a Dutch passport, and I'm not going to argue over the cats. But if we assume he moved to Holland with his dad, or soon after that was around 1980 when he was 2, and Jimmy managed over there until 1999, by which time Scott had started his own career - in Holland, where he continued to play - so although born in England to Scottish parents, his life is almost entirely Dutch. That was my reasoning behind it. Re HotCat, i haven't been able to work out how to do multiple ones and have been too irritated at my ineptitude to work it out, instead ignoring it. Manue Ott and Ceres/United City

I'm force to edit on my mobile at the moment, and I did include a source (but not in line). So I'm sorry for that, I do usually include sources.

But could you please verify if the edit is legitimate before just reverting?

Also do you have any kind feedback on how to deal with this kind of Situation. Ceres-Negros recently ended all contract with their players on June 1 due to the pandemic and a new management took over and renamed the club as United City FC. which are re-signing most of the players who left.

So basically I suggest to treat the players as free agents unless re-signed.

Also how do we treat players who are eventually re-signed too especially mentions of the old and new name of the club in the article body and the infoboxes? Hariboneagle927 (talk) 11:00, 1 August 2020 (UTC)

August 2020

-Hi there - Wikipedia relies on reliable sources to verify information, especially about living people. You didn't provide a source for your changes to the Vasilis Dimitriadis article, and I couldn't find one either. If you have a reliable source please let me know and we can change the article. Please let me know if you have any questions. GiantSnowman 10:20, 11 August 2020 (UTC)

-But I did put a source right at the end (https://www.aek-live.gr/o-vasilobilaros-forese-ton-dikefalo/) either you didn't notice either you didn't understand the language I will assume the last. I did translate the most important parts from Greek to English for the article to be improved. I don't see what's the problem there since its all justyfied. In conclusion I expect from you to make my improovements permanent if there isn't further problems. User:BEN917

Attention to article Fernando Prass

This guy (Quite A Character) has been showing signs of WP:OWNBEHAVIOR in this arcticle. He keeps on reverting edits that add state league stats to the infobox (as stated in WP:FOOTY) and his edit summaries are not exactly polite, as to say. Horcoff (talk) 17:51, 14 August 2020 (UTC)

  • I apologise for the summaries, @Horcoff:, you are 100% correct there. But i thought the infobox was just for league matches, weren't you inserting statistics for all competitions there?

Hi! As we know, there is a consensus to use WP:KARLSRUHER for naming of german-language clubs. But one user started edit war and changing Wolfsberger AC name to Wolfsberg in this single article. I wrote him in edit summaries and his talk page that he should start the discussion on WP:WPF, but he refuses to reach new consensus and keeps reverting my edits. Also he already had discussion about this in December 2019 here [14] and didn't gain any support. Alex (talk) 10:36, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

I'm not going to get involved in an edit war, and he is right in saying that WP:KARLSRUHER is just an essay. I think we need a RFC at WT:FOOTBALL to get a binding decision. GiantSnowman 10:43, 18 August 2020 (UTC)
It's an essay, noone denies that, but that essay is used for naming of German and Austrian clubs for many years now so that's current consensus. Wolfsberger AC name was used everywhere in English Wikipedia since club got it so that's the consensus. And he just changes name in one single article. There definitely should be consistency. I don't ask you to get involved in edit war, but some help in resolving this would be appreciated. Alex (talk) 10:50, 18 August 2020 (UTC)

Peter Gwargis

Peter Gwargis is Assyrian. I'm not sure why you keep adding in the fact that his parents were born in Iraq. There are Assyrians from several middle eastern countries but they are still Assyrian. There are several different ethnic groups in Iraq. There is no Iraqi ethnicity either. He was born in Australia and raised in Sweden. He was not born in Iraq. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolguy2525 (talkcontribs) 14:59, 26 August 2020 (UTC)

Why do you keep adding in the fact his parents are from Iraq and adding a link to "iraqi descent" players? There is no such thing as Iraqi descent. If he was BORN in Iraq then it would make sense to add it but he was born in Australia and raised in Sweden. He is an Assyrian-Swedish football player. Coolguy2525 (talk) 15:24, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

There is NO such thing as Iraqi descent. Iraq was a country drawn up by people which had land with several ethnic groups. Arabs, assyrians, kurds, turkment, yezidis. These are ethnic groups. Iraq is a nationality. The source says he's Assyrian and his parents are from Iraq. Of course it will say iraq. There is no Assyria anymore. The page is about Peter not his parents so it should only have information about peter. He doesn't even represent Iraq for football. Anyways I have left the fact that his parents are Iraqi so you stop crying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coolguy2525 (talkcontribs) 18:01, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

Hey! Hope you're doing well. Just wanted to say that I didn't appreciate the way you said "absolute nonsense" in the edit summary when you changed the word "Continental" to "Other". Not saying I disagree with the change, I agree with it, but you don't have say it like that. This is what I put in every article I create. If it is wrong, there are nicer ways of pointing it out, especially for future editors who might be new to wikipedia. This is just for future. Appreciate the change otherwise. --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 21:27, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

Changing from continental to other is not something I am used to so happy to note that down for the future. For Indian players who are notable enough for a page, they will generally always been in the I-League or ISL which has a path to the AFC CL or AFC Cup. Anyway though, thank you for explaining. Have a good one! --ArsenalFan700 (talk) 16:26, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Reverting page moves without consensus

Hi GS, how are you?

User:Viktorcc moved some pages without consensus, and in my opinion, all of them are controversial. So, I've reverted some of them, but I couldn't do it with Club Atlético Malagueño.

Can you please revert it? Thanks, MYS77 01:31, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

ManjappadaKerala Blasters Fans article redirected to Kerala Blasters FC . Sir can you remove the redirection. So we could create a new article with proper sources. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Manjappada_Kerala_Blastere_Fans Older article on Manjappada Kerala Blasters Fans is proposed to delete. DThere were two or three articles create during its inception without prorpersources by someone. Now i have proper sources and citations to make an article. So far as i come to know Manjappada Kerala Blasters fans is independent from kerala Blasters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Miscellany_for_deletion/Draft:Manjappada_Kerala_Blasters_Fans So , sir can i create a new article on Manjappada Kerala Blasters Fans. please consider my request on this. Score fmtg

I've noticed an editor changing the way scores are displayed. I.e. X lost 0-1 to Y, to 1-0. I usually put the score of the club being talked about first, irrespective of win, lose, home or away. Has there ever been a discussion about this? I can't see anything in 'consensus'. Eagleash (talk) 16:48, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Best known for IP

Hi GS, how are you?

I've noticed that the same person who is blocked multiple times on this thread created a new user, named @Firiver. Ah, and again, he's personally attacking me and @Quite A Character (not the first time, to be honest).

Could you please block him again? I honestly can't understand why people who are blocked for life from the WP keep on trying to come back and disrupt things around here.

Thanks, MYS77 18:34, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

IP editor at WP:FOOTY

Hi GS. The IP editor at WP:FOOTY is most likely Wikipedia:LTA/BKFIP. See Kapanar (talk · contribs) and https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Quite_A_Character&curid=54192114&action=history. Robby.is.on (talk) 19:05, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

You're welcome and thanks. ;-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 19:17, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

Tried to be courteous about it and reach out, this was the result (the last IP address, please see here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/185.14.215.74). Really no point in blocking/warning me, i'm retired. But i apologise for my reaction nonetheless (oh, and i also removed my hard message, i'm such an idiot if i think i'll ever win this kind of battle). --Quite A Character (talk) 20:59, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi there, I was hoping that you might be able to help me with a page move I'm struggling with. I have been working to improve Billy Clarke (footballer, born 1878), most sources refer to him as Willie Clarke including a new book that has come out recently that has provided a few key pieces of information on him. I think that the page needs to be moved to the original Willie Clarke (footballer) which redirects in. I don't think that I can make this move myself as a non-administrator as the page is already there. Can you please help/advise? Many thanks. Mountaincirque 13:48, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Hello

Can you please express your opinion here -> Talk:FC Dinamo B București? Rhinen (talk)

Hi GS, how are you?

I've once created this very same article (on Francisco Feuillassier, I think) but it was deleted, but I think we have enough on this draft to make him eligible through WP:GNG. Maybe it's a bit WP:TOOSOON, since he'll debut professionally this season (per WP:FPL), but what do you think? Can we move this draft to a full article?

Thanks, MYS77 23:00, 9 September 2020 (UTC)

Jake Hackett

Hi, just looking on Jake Hacketts infobox, should the 2 spells at Whitby be merged into one due to them being in the same season, and him not making an appearance for a different club during the 2 spells? Cheers. Football1973 (talk) 10:17, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Another name change

Another club changed its name, can you please also express your opinion here -> Talk:CF Metalurgistul Cugir? Thank you! Rhinen (talk)

Masih Alinejad

Sorry, I reverted the article Masih Alinejad to an earlier revision, this inadvertently undid your edit correcting the date formats, I've tried to reapply your edit, but for some reason I can't get the script working in my browser. - Scio c (talk) 16:59, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Steve Williams (footballer, born 1987), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Preston.

Please read my message here (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Favonian). I repeat what's stated there, even tough my editorial profile is as low as can be nowadays, the taunting continues (and the whining about me at WP:FOOTY). --Quite A Character (talk) 20:47, 15 September 2020 (UTC)

I see that the person continues to post WP:FOOTY threads one after the other regarding me. Am i being an utter nuisance, regarding MOS? If i am just say the word, i'll leave (in the meantime, a message in my user page where the person is not completely wrong, since i have not stopped editing, just with the account). Can I send it by email? Shahoodu (talk) 18:23, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

First of all thankyou and I hope you read the email fully. Since you were one of the admin who favoured the deletion, can you provide your oinion regarding this topic at the DRV if I bring this there Shahoodu (talk) 00:47, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

I am not comparing anything. But I wanna show you something. With all mutual respect , since you said that cannot be a stand alone article then please tell me why the article West Block Blues became an article. Shahoodu (talk) 14:27, 18 September 2020 (UTC) I already explained to you the article Manjappada was merged with Kerala Blasters for two times by the reason of not enough contents. So I dont understand why only this article even exist. It must be also merged into the support section of Bengaluru FC.I showed this to some admins. But most of them are not giving any valid reasons.

(talk) 14:30, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

I have read that.I hope you got the point. Both the Manjappada and Manjappada are the the fan clubs of 2 Indian clubs.I am not pointing this because of any rivalry or nothing.I just wanna point out the mere facts. Please visit my sandbox https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Shahoodu/sandbox This is the new structure of the article. Please compare this with West Block Blues.I just want to point out some unequality happened here.Thats all.. Shahoodu (talk) 14:45, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for your time and I will surely discuss it there. But currently I am waiting for discussing this with the closing admin. One last thing to say.Can you please explain why the article west block blues was kept despite having less contents Shahoodu (talk) 14:49, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Really?

Hi GiantSnowman, thank you for the patronising message on my talk page. I have been an editor here for over 15 years now and I know the score. Harrison was literally already at the top of the Deaths in 2020 page, where an attached source cited his death. I didn't add the death details to his page. I merely tidied it. Please don't waste your time lecturing me in future. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 11:07, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Jkaharper: "I didn't add the death details to his page." Yes, the death date was originally added by an IP that probably didn't know better. But you (as you yourself imply) should. You shouldn't have made the additions without including a reference. Robby.is.on (talk) 12:32, 18 September 2020 (UTC)

Re: Henrik Rasmussen

Hey. I was trying to turn Henrik Rasmussen into a disambiguation page since I just created Henrik Rasmussen (politician) and there is also a page for similarly named Hendrik Rasmussen. I haven't, as far as I remember, made any disambiguation pages before, and I clearly did it wrong, so I'll just continue my editing and leave that for someone else to do. DYK for Matt Smith (footballer, born 2000)

On 19 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Matt Smith (footballer, born 2000), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Arsenal footballer Matt Smith won an FA Cup winners medal without having made his debut for Arsenal? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Matt Smith (footballer, born 2000). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Matt Smith (footballer, born 2000)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Matt Weaire (and Colchester United in general)

Hi! I've been a bit rusty with keeping up-to-date with my similarly Colchester United-centric 'to do' list. I used to peruse your page regularly to see which players you had lined up with articles at the ready, awaiting their professional debuts! I thought I'd just pop by and leave a friendly message for an update to Matt Weaire. I try to avoid creating any pages for players that you've already made a template article for, so I just thought I'd add that Matt Weaire has joined Leiston on loan if you were interested. Keep up the good work!

Continues with the taunting (i used to use the summary they just used there once in a while), at Álvaro González (footballer, born 1990). Sincerely, if you as an English speaker prefer their version, please do re-revert and sorry for the inconvenience.

I apologise for reverting the IP (originally did not intend to do any of that, but it was stronger than me), it will only fuel their hatred i suppose. Do re-revert if you think my action was unwarranted, even though pretty much anyone who comes in contact with this person is applying WP:DENY at this point. --Quite A Character (talk) 00:42, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

Hiya, I had him in my sandbox at User:Govvy/Samuel Shashoua I can see that MYS77 copied the code from my user space instead of moving the article out to main space because the first three access dates on the sources are exactly the same. I find that incredibly irksome! Maybe you can have a word. Govvy (talk) 11:53, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

@Govvy: Had this guy in my Google Drive (where I create and save my drafts) since his signing for Tenerife in 2018. Just because my refs are the same as yours, it doesn't mean that I've copied your work. And maybe you should've put this at Draft:Samuel Shashoua instead of leaving in an user space? How could I know that you had a draft on him? MYS77 14:54, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
@Govvy: Aside from three refs from the same website, and one sentence that is similar, the rest of the page is completely different than your draft. It's more complete, it has more references and it covers his career in a more complete way than your draft.
I understand that you're annoyed that I didn't move your draft to article space, and I'm sorry about that, but as I said before, you should've left it at Draft:Samuel Shashoua. Plus, I don't think accusing me of copying your work when I'm creating a bunch of articles related to Spanish football in the past few days is the best way to interact here. MYS77 15:09, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
What a load of tosh, highly unlikely you would have the same access dates or even know of the first three cites without looking in my user space. :/ Govvy (talk) 17:18, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

@Govvy and MYS77: I have merged the histories. Please both AGF! GiantSnowman 17:28, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

@GiantSnowman: Thanks. @Govvy: prease refrain from accusing me without proof, otherwise I'll consider a personal attack. Thank you, MYS77 17:48, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
@MYS77: The proof is right there! heh, why would the access dates not be the date you created the article, you haven't moved it from anywhere. Why would you work on an article in google?? You go on about having articles in draft space, but if you go and create a new article from scratch it gives you the option (Special:Mypage/newarticle) which effectively creates a new article in your user space. The one I created had a history and I highly doubt you knew what school Samuel went too. Even Crowsus missed that. Don't lie to me and don't COPYVIO other peoples work. It's wrong and out of order. Not to mention you live in Brazil and support Santos FC, so why are you following a player who played for Tottenham to Tenerife??? Talk about way out on left field!! Govvy (talk) 18:51, 21 September 2020 (UTC)
This is kinda off the subject, but on the school, when I got the archive version up on my phone, it wouldn't load the 'read more' bit so I thought that was a fault with the page, hence the tag, but then when I looked on a PC it expanded fine, so it must have been a fault with the phone, so apologies for the waste of time with the tag. I have to say that when I did get it to load fully, the birthplace and school was right there very clearly in the first paragraph so it would have been pretty easy for anyone looking for it to find and cite it when the original page was still available. As for who did what when, pretty difficult to prove either way. Crowsus (talk) 20:13, 21 September 2020 (UTC)

@Govvy: I don't need to explain you what I do here, you can tell by looking at my contributions. Your "proof" is nothing but your assumption that I copied your work because you're upset that I didn't move your one-line draft to an article space. You can go there and do some WP:HOUND on my contributions to understand why I've created a player who is playing for Tenerife. This last argument of yours is so weak that I can use the same by saying "why did you create APOEL FC in European football when you live in England and support Spurs"...

Please stop being so whiny about a single article, I also had a draft at User:MYS77/Marc Caballé who was clearly a COPYVIO by User:Adorian and you don't see me complaining about it. As I already said, I'm sorry for not moving your draft I didn't see it, GS already fixed it, I won't bother GS' talk page again. I consider this subject over and you should too. MYS77 03:15, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

@Govvy: One last thing, I promise: it's way difficult to find that Shashoua attended Harrow School, s-o-o-o-o difficult... MYS77 03:19, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

@Govvy and MYS77: both of you please stop bickering. I am going to archive this discussion shortly. Work collaboratively, not combatively. 09:59, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Can you please offer a hand in this article please? In the PAOK FC career, someone who is obviously a fan of club displeased with the manager's work (thus, POV of the highest caliber), continues to engage in (other than POV) overlinking like no tomorrow and removes refs/categories previously added, as seen in this diff (https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Abel_Ferreira&diff=979593737&oldid=979095224). Late in August, this IP (or IPs) was/were engaged in an edit war with another IP, writing words like "miserable" to describe Mr. Ferreira's work in PAOK ("only" a second place is miserable according to the IP); last but not least, they continue to write stuff in the manager's article that belongs either in PAOK's overall article or the seasonal ones (and stuff like "with the referee in the second match wronging PAOK with 2 penalties against him which should not have been given" – with no ref to top it, i add one that covers at least said match and penalties against Ajax, they remove it – is completely unacceptable, is it not?), and at least this one exists!

Could you please protect page? I'll warn you if this continues. Regards, thanks in advance --Quite A Character (talk) 00:55, 22 September 2020 (UTC)

Youth career cannot extend beyond senior career

Hi! I was just wondering about the reason you gave for your edit on Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson. While in his particular case, I think the edit is alright, since he was quick to make his way to the senior team bench, there are multiple cases of Icelandic footballers making a few senior appearances in Iceland at a very young age before going abroad and spending a few years in the youth team of a much bigger team. Would you not classify that as a youth career, just because they made their senior debut at a semi-professional level before going on to the youth team of a professional team? A fitting example is Kolbeinn Sigþórsson, who made 5 appearances in Iceland's 2nd tier in 2006 before transferring to AZ in the Netherlands - where he only made his senior debut in 2010. From 2007-2010 he was a youth player for AZ - is that not part of his youth career? He wasn't in the senior team, so it can't be his senior career. I don't know whom created this before and what was the content of article before but my structure of works is same (look at my articles). the WP:SALT says that if a page is repeatedly recreated by a single user but i didn't know nothing about this. the reason deletion was for something else(for banned user) and not relating to me. I was doing works on Sabail's team last day ( you can see my works here creating category, template and amending issues). please undelete it. With the best regards.--Mojtaba2361 (talk) 01:00, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

thanks for your cm but what happen then? i didn't know about this problem (repeatedly created with incorrect name) until 2 days ago and i did my own work. You setted Require administrator access for article and i can't do anything for this article. for example Rubén Anguiano was created by banned users several times, now you create this and all of the problems before will be solved. please help me.I took many times on it and there is no problem with my article. Best--Mojtaba2361 (talk) 15:32, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

Re: Mark Travers

Hi, I appreciate your concerns regarding my edit on Mark Travers as the only easy way to get that information is through Transfermarkt (which is apparently an unreliable source for some reason) but that information is available on a match by match basis on the Irish FA's website.

For example, here is the link to a match Travers played on 24 April 2017 for Ireland u-18s against Czechia u-18s from the FAI - https://www.fai.ie/ireland/match/55505/2017/999943486.

The issue is that I can't find anything that just outright states the number of apps - you have to go through every individual match report. It's all there, and you will find it all in order if you're willing to search for each individual match. It's just not really productive for me to provide a link to every single match report is all. ~~ Brududesom (talk) 16:27, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

It definitely isn't ideal but unfortunately that's all there is as far as I'm aware. It's still information straight from the horse's mouth and if you read one that says he played, it means he played that match.

The negative implication that he may have played more matches doesn't seem much of a problem as most articles about footballers either need the apps updating or there are apps missing anyway.

I don't feel it prudent to reject an edit on the grounds that you don't trust an editor's diligence and don't want to search through each match report yourself. It's best to just give the benefit of the doubt here as the information is just as accurate as any other time someone has updated international youth apps on a player and any error (if there is one) would only be very minor. It is an edit in good faith after all. Brududesom (talk) 17:01, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

Well, I suppose if that's the letter of the law I can't really do anything about it. It's a little frustrating personally but I can appreciate your position here and thank you for you for your time. I suppose we'll just have to hope that the FAI will provide something easily verifiable in the future. Brududesom (talk) 17:11, 4 October 2020 (UTC)

About Drv discussion

The drv discussion of https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2020_September_25?markasread=200645887&markasreadwiki=enwiki#Draft:Manjappada_Kerala_Blasters_Fans has closed. But I believe the admin closed the discussion without giving undue weightage to the underlined comments.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sandstein) So i believe it was not a fair decision..can you suggest me a way?? I came to you as ArnabSaha suggested me.

See West Block Blues..according to wp:otherstuff exists if West Block Blues can have an seperate article manjappada can definetly have.WhiteFalcon1 (talk) 09:46, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) WhiteFalcon1, the argument WP:OTHERSTUFF is considered to be not a good argument for why an article should be kept. That is, the fact West Block Blues exists does nothing to support keeping Majappada Kerala Blasters Fans. "Other stuff exists" is considered a weak argument, not a strong one. —valereee (talk) 10:46, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
@—valereee
Actually the Consensus was to allow temp undeletion of draft. The closing admin didnot consider this and closed the discussion against this. ::https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2020_September_25?markasread=200645887&markasreadwiki=enwiki#Draft:Manjappada_Kerala_Blasters_Fans
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sandstein#Wikipedia%3ADeletion_review%2FLog%2F2020_September_25
So what should I do.You can verify.WhiteFalcon1 (talk) 12:06, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
WhiteFalcon1, sorry, what do you mean by "consensus was to allow temporary undeletion of draft"? I don't know what you're asking me to verify. The closer found the opposite, that there was no consensus to allow recreation. —valereee (talk) 13:18, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
@—valereeePlease see this

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Sandstein#Wikipedia%3ADeletion_review%2FLog%2F2020_September_25

The closer might have done a mistake. Please read the complete discussion

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2020_September_25?markasread=200645887&markasreadwiki=enwiki#Draft:Manjappada_Kerala_Blasters_Fans

Closer has not considered the weighted comments amd simply closed the discussion. One of the person AngusWOOF who didn't want to recraete the article almost agreed in recreation. So why did the closer simply did that.WhiteFalcon1 (talk) 13:28, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
WhiteFalcon1, yes, I've read the discussion. Honestly, it looks to me like it could have been closed as either salt article/don't salt draft, or as salt both. There was good advice at DRV to add sources into the team's article, and eventually, once you've found enough sources, splitting it off could be considered. That's the route I'd recommend for now. Not every fan group is notable just because another fan group is. If this is the fan group for the team you consider to be "your" team, you may want very much for it it have an article -- especially if maybe your rival team's fan group has one -- but that simply doesn't matter, not even a little bit. —valereee (talk) 15:37, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

@valereeeI am arguing this with valid reasons. Please dont say Im against my rival team.I haven't even thought about that.

Iam saying this with valid reasons. It is a fact that manjappada is more notable than west block blues.I can prove you that.Still this discrimination is happening.I just want to avoid that. And please dont bring rivarly into it.It has nothing to do with it.I'm saying this according to other stuff exists

Plenty of articles exist that probably should not. Equally, a lot of articles do not exist that probably should. Therefore, just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist;it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it. WhiteFalcon1 (talk) 16:29, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

  • (talk page stalker)@WhiteFalcon1: Please stop; the idea of an item has been discussed on several occasions and found to be not required. Please follow the advice given by Valereee and expand the existing content until such time as it may be worth a standalone page. Additionally you seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of other stuff exists; it means that should an article exist on one topic, that does not justify the existence of other similar articles. It does *not* mean or justify the existence of other articles. Eagleash (talk) 16:49, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

I dont know how to convince. No problem. Now i will expand the article.I will try to expand the article like you said.Thank youWhiteFalcon1 (talk) 17:04, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

MOS:DATEFORMAT by script

FYI - just wanted to let you know when this script is run on a page with a ref that has an accessdate commented out, like at Arthur Schopenhauer, the script apparently has a bug that moves the end part of the wiki markup <!-- --> to a new location in the text. You can see in this diff where the accessdate 2 September 2012 is commented out, where it happened. The lead had two paragraphs before the script was run, and then after the script was run, it only had one. It also happened on Oct 5 when User:Emir of Wikipedia ran the script on Claude Shannon, as seen in this diff where the accessdate July 13, 2013 is commented out. My guess the reason the accessdate was commented out to begin with is because no URL was provided in the ref. I don't know if the bug can be fixed, but if I was using this script, I'd check my edits after running it. Thanks. Isaidnoway (talk) 14:08, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

@Isaidnoway: This should probably be reported at User talk:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:43, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on: They were pinged on my talk page by GiantSnowman and again here by you, hopefully they'll get the message. Thanks. Isaidnoway (talk) 14:48, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
I don't think my link would ping them but good thing GS alerted them and thanks for letting me know. :-) Happy editing, Robby.is.on (talk) 14:59, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
@Robby.is.on and Isaidnoway: thanks both. It's sensible to keep the discussion in one place now, I don't mind where that is... GiantSnowman 15:37, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Louie Barry Comment

Hi there, I'd like to quite strongly contest your removal of an appearance in the EFL Trophy, it is a senior professional competition and it should be added to a players' page. As he already has a page it does not make sense to remove the text...as factually he did play in the match. Take the stats table out if you have to but why delete the reference and content? Cannot figure out redirect deletion

Hello again! I am so confused by studying this page that it's actually giving me a headache. Nothing there that I can see gives a reader clear & simple instructions on How to delete an inappropriate redirect. I've really tried to figure it out. Apparently it's necessary to grasp quite a bit of highly initiated Wikipedia jargon to understand what to do and how to do it. In spite of a decade-and-a-half of Wikipedia work, I am not an experienced deletion nominator. Can anyone help me in trying to follow your advice at Talk:Fjollträsk? Sincerely, --SergeWoodzing (talk) 17:59, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

The PAOK FC fanatic (who happens to also hate the manager) returned, i think this needs page protection!

Attentively --Quite A Character (talk) 23:22, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

I nominated the redirect for deletion. The single-issue IP user (multiple IPs), who has kept trying to get the hateful word added to English Wikipedia, then created an account & changed the page to a totally bogus article about an imaginary town near Stockholm. I reverted that. An experienced user was trolled into reinstating it, giving the new user (troll) account support on their talk page and mine and also closed the deletion request, apparently believing in good faith that the phony article about a bogus suburb was legit. Another experienced user, suspecting trollery, has changed the article to a one-liner. Admin @Seraphimblade: provided a 3O here about adding the term to Stockholm. The troll needs to be stopped asap. I believe it now is an administrative issue. Hope one of you admins can/will help. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 08:08, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

Reece James

Please stop removing defensive midfielder from Reece James page, it is a position he has played on many occasions and is his main position. Just because he is currently playing right back doesnt mean he can no longer play there. The article you quoted clearly states both full back and central midfield are his positions!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tommy wafc (talkcontribs) 14:36, 9 October 2020 (UTC)

List of footballers killed during the Second World War

May I ask you show patience and magnanimity towards contributors to this article like myself by giving them the time of day to finish adding material and sourcing them. I cannot do this as quickly and expertly as more experienced (editor more than 10 years) you are, I work with what I call care and patience copying and pasting between articles so it is a little unnerving (and feels unwelcoming) to have someone quick on the draw either rubbing out additions to the article without giving me time to finish what to me has to be the separate stage of adding references, and criticizing me for leaving unsourced material (rather like saying same kind of thing to a builder who has just put up the walls of a house but not yet got onto putting the roof on) or unexpectedly (to me) adding a reference then moaning in apparent resentment at me about what you did. I have no desire for an edit war with you. I would save this 'shooting on sight' for the likes of trolls and vandals; otherwise I respectfully suggest you do not intervene on first sight but give me time to finish. I now aim to have anything I add that has got a source within reach onto the page on the SAME DAY and in one session. (If you could see me sitting at this laptop when I am at work on article, then I am sure you would understand and see how long I can sit at working on an article, but I am afraid you think I only 'hit and run' - which I am sorry to say I am tempted to do because I feel I am running a gauntlet. At that rate, this is asking for the article to linger on as an incomplete list.) Thank you in advance for some understanding.Cloptonson (talk) 15:02, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Vietnamese IP on UAE national football team

Hello, i apologize for disturbing you and i didn't think i would be asking for this, but recently there has been this Vietnamese anonymous editor making unneccersary changes on the UAE national team wether it's rewriting the history section or making records section smaller and i don't have time to revert most of his edits. I just wonder if you can block his IP range from making major changes on the national team's article since it's been making it more difficult for regular users to read the article. ATK Mohun Bagan

Hello GiantSnowman as we all know that ATK Mohun Bagan FC is a new club its need a new article on wikipedia. here i am listing all the sources that prove ATK Mohun Bagan FC is a new club and need a new article on wikipedia. 1.official merger announcement where it is clearly written that they will form a new club.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B7YWo5cpkcA/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

2.About section of ATKMB's facebook page claiming it is a new club.

3.Interviews of directors and co-owners claiming it is a new club.

https://www.facebook.com/DigitalMediaIdeas/videos/288622845552479/ https://www.facebook.com/DigitalMediaIdeas/videos/738400133657162/

4.Goal.com,world's largest online football publication's report on how ATKMB can still play in AFC CUP being a new club.

https://www.goal.com/en-in/news/explained-three-afc-slots-for-2021-isl-indian-football/1xzum00p0va021r20k40t9ruym

5.A reputed media house NEWS18's article on ATKMB have no previous records and have to start from the zero.

http://news18.com/news/sports/indian-super-league-2020-21-to-kick-off-from-november-20-in-goa-2990645.html

6.Transfermarkt.com a reputed football related website having a new page for ATKMB with no previous records claiming its a brand new club.they still have two separate pages one for Mohun Bagan and one for ATK FC.

https://www.transfermarkt.co.in/atk-mohun-bagan-fc/transfers/verein/83266

7.'Hero ISL Champions 2019-20' is embroided on the jersey and training kits of ATKMB.it proves that history of ATK is a integral part of ATKMB.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EkNiJcIX0AASZEu?format=jpg&name=large

8.In the official website of Hero ISL ATK FC has been rebranded as ATKMB FC.

https://www.indiansuperleague.com/standings

9.RPSG Group's website where both the logos of ATK FC and Mohun Bagan AC has been removed and replaced with the new logo of ATKMB.if ATKMB is a rebranded version of Mohun Bagan then the logo of ATK FC should have been there as they still have the logo of Rising Pune Supergiant, their IPL team that is currently dissolved.

https://www.rpsg.in/business/rpsgsports

10.And also the Office address of ATKMB is Topsia not Maidan.

ATKMB does not pick any bid paper they are still using the old bid paper of ATK.
when players like Roy,Prabir,Edu had signed for the club they termed it as 'extension' and when players like Sahil had signed for the club they termed it as 'new signing'.

When the club itself claiming that ATKMB is a new club, when the owners and directors are claiming that ATKMB is a new club, when both Indian and foreign media houses are claiming that its a new club why wikipedia still does not have a separate article on ATK Mohun Bagan FC?
It is my kind request to you that it is the right time to create a new article on ATK Mohun Bagan FC as Hero ISL is going to start in less than a month. — Preceding unsigned comment added by BarcelonaFan995 (talkcontribs) 17:37, 24 October 2020 (UTC)

Hey GS, I "made" the page for Maria Bakalova after changing it from a redirect. For whatever reason, I am not recognized as the page creator, and the redirect creator is. Chiedozie Ogbene

Hi, could you explain why you reverted my edit of Chiedozie Ogbene, please? Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 18:20, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

I don’t agree with you over this. I’m doing some research. doesn’t common sense tell you that due to the fact he was born in Lagos he’s at least half Nigerian? Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 21:25, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

I’ve left you a message on my chat page Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 21:36, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

I’ve left you what will be my last message today. Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 21:44, 3 November 2020 (UTC)

Strange behaviour

Do you enjoy harassing people on Wikipedia? You’re stalking me. Leave me alone.--LeftiePete (talk) 01:46, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

LeftiePete Giant Snowman isn’t harassing you at all, he is an admin (who has been here for A LOT longer than you have) and he’s just doing his job. He isn’t ‘harassing’ you at all, if you don’t want to be corrected find something else to do, it’s the admins job to ensure everything is present and correct Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 12:43, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

I am unsure why you changed the introduction on Danièle Aron-Rosa to identify her as "French". De Benedetti clearly says, "Vuole dialogare con chiosserva le sue opere, trasmettere lasua solida identità di ebrea tunisina" that she identifies as a Tunisian Jewish woman. I didn't want to simply revert it without dialogue, as perhaps you had a source or reason? SusunW (talk) 16:39, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

SusumW Both parents were French, i think that’s why Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 16:46, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Gameshowandsportsfan2007 The answer I got from GiantSnowman was that one source called her French. As I pointed out, sources vary. Numerous sources state erroneously that she was born in France. She was not, as far as I can tell. I just have a problem with a living person, ignoring what they state their identity is. Tunisian-French recognized all the sources, just French, does not and could be construed as a POV, rather than an accurate reflection based upon the sourcing. SusunW (talk) 17:00, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
SusunW I agree with GiantSnowman, if both her parents are French just because she was born in Tunis whilst her parents where temporily living there by no means makes her Tunisian. Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 17:03, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Gameshowandsportsfan2007 We have no evidence on her parents at all, except their names. We do have a statement from her as to her identity. Do you have a source which indicates that her parents lived there temporarily or that they did not consider themselves Tunisian Jews, as their daughter does? I'd love to have more information on her background, but I did not find anything other than what is in the article. SusunW (talk) 17:11, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
SusunW The article is fine, as far as we’re concerned she’s French, leave the matter and move on please Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 17:13, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Gameshowandsportsfan2007 that is a somewhat dismissive statement and I do not appreciate your tone. I came here in good faith hoping that GiantSnowman had sources which could help improve the article. I am not sure who "we" are, but your opinion does not line up with the sourcing. I will not be responding to you further. I do hope that GiantSnowman is willing to have constructive dialogue. SusunW (talk) 17:20, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
SusunW it isn’t dismissive and i’m not talking in any ‘tone’ i won’t make any more comment if the GiantSnowman wants to add anything i’m sure he will, i was trying to help you. Don’t contact me again Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 17:22, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Gameshowandsportsfan2007: I fully understand SusunW's wish not to continue this discussion given you instruction to "leave the matter and move on please". I also try to avoid edit wars but I think you could well have agreed to look into the Tunisian-French question more carefully. As a new contributor, you should be ready to benefit from the experience of established editors. If you are really interested in working on articles about women, you may be interested in wp:Women in Red. Please let me know if you need any further assistance.--Ipigott (talk) 17:52, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

@Gameshowandsportsfan2007 and SusunW: one for the article talk page? I am not bothered either way tbh, I removed the Tunisian aspect per MOSETHNICITY. If she has that citizenship then feel free to restore it. GiantSnowman 17:51, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

There's the rub GiantSnowman, I have no idea. I truly tried to find out information on her parents and early life and could not. As I am in Mexico, I get different search results from Europeans, so I asked Ipigott for help. He was able to find sourcing confirming her ties to Tunis. As women throughout the world typically did not have citizenship in their own right until the mid-20th century, often their actual citizenship status is difficult to determine and ethnicity is the only indicator of their identity. I appreciate your calm willingness to dialogue and thank you. SusunW (talk) 18:10, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

After a lot of research i’m happy to bill her as ‘French-Tunisian’ Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 19:49, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

He’s been really annoying and is making disruptive edits which are starting to seem like vandalism. I think he needs a warning, i suspect he is trolling, don’t you? if so he needs yeeting. Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 17:07, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Edit question.

Hi @GiantSnowman,

I noticed that my edit on the Jaap Weber article was reversed. You included it was un-constructive in your summary. I'd like some help on determining what edits are useful and what is not useful. Is that possible? Thanks. FireisBlue (talk) 18:27, 8 November 2020 (UTC)FireisBlue

31.21.157.14

Hi GS. I think a block for 31.21.157.14 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) would be in order now. See their Talk page, their contributions and @Paul Vaurie:'s request on my Talk page. Kind regards, Robby.is.on (talk) 15:45, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

@Robby.is.on: @GiantSnowman: Hello to both of you. I have noticed that the IP is making more edits today. Most of them are just statistical updates to football pages, but they still have been making disruptive edits here and there, and some have been reverted. GS, I think it's your choice on whether to take action or not. Thanks, have a good day. Paul Vaurie (talk) 19:51, 14 November 2020 (UTC)

Edits 12 hours ago do not merit blocking. Blocking is preventative, not punishment. GiantSnowman 17:16, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
GiantSnowman They made disruptive edits like one. They can easily edit again. It is identified as a proxy which according to this should be blocked Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 17:19, 15 November 2020 (UTC)
@GiantSnowman: @Robby.is.on: @Gameshowandsportsfan2007: The IP we are talking about has made 6 edits in the past 24 hours, and 4 in the past 7 hours (at the time of writing this message to you all.) Out of those 6 edits in the past 24 hours, 5 of them have been reverted, and out of the 4 edits in the past 7 hours, all of them have been reverted. Just some information you can think about, GS, before deciding whether to block or not. Sorry if I wrote this while you all are sleeping. I may live in a different time zone. Paul Vaurie (talk) 01:48, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Paul Vaurie: no worries i was up and we have to log in to see it anyway, where you from?. This user is defo and vandal and needs blocking ASAP IMHO. Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 08:28, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
@Gameshowandsportsfan2007: I'm from France, but I live in the USA now. Anyways, enough about me, @GiantSnowman: personally I think the IP should be blocked, but up to you. I'm not very familiar with the criteria for blocking (in all honesty.) Paul Vaurie (talk) 14:11, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

@Paul Vaurie, Robby.is.on, and Gameshowandsportsfan2007: I have blocked for 48 hours. Please let me know if they return. GiantSnowman 18:25, 16 November 2020 (UTC)

GiantSnowman, nice one mate, thanks. I think they will return. I have done some research, while i won’t explain publically, i say ‘chinny reckon’ to the fact they are sockpuppet and proxies i’ll email you with the proof if you want. Mariadbd13

Hello GiantSnowman. firstly, apologies if I am totally messing up how to reach you, but I am NOT technically adept! I noticed that you had the last edit on my grandfather's UK Wikipedia page. I would like to contribute to his page by providing you with a photo of him in his old Middlesbrough FC kit. However, I cannot do this myself as I am not a confirmed user. Also, I'm not sure how to edit his page myself to provide more details for you - such as final game, against whom played, etc, etc and more biographical information that would help populate his page with correct information directly from our family. Could you please advise? Many thanks. Maria. (My username is Mariadbd13). Sorry - I have absolutely no idea how to type four tildes or where to find them! Pls no really technical response or you will have lost me by the end of the first line! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariadbd13 (talkcontribs)

GiantSnowman I suspect this user is an impersonator, the way it’s written looks to me as if it is illegitimate, if she provides an image i’d reverse search it if i was you. It is written too informally to be legit IMHO, i’d rather not explain too much publically but anyhow i say ‘chinny reckon’. Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 12:28, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
@Gameshowandsportsfan2007: many thanks for your concern, but I have plenty of experience dealing with editors (both falsely and correctly) claiming to be related to subjects of articles... GiantSnowman 12:32, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Is they any way i can contact you privately in confidence? GiantSnowman Gameshowandsportsfan2007 (talk) 12:38, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
Yes you can email me if you wish. I always read them, but rarely respond via email though. GiantSnowman 12:39, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Excuse me but I am absolutely NOT an imposter. I am simply someone who doesn't utilize Wikipedia on a regular basis but it was brought to my attention that you had material on there that related to my family. When I looked I noticed, firstly, that you didn't have a photo of my grandfather and I would have been MORE than happy to supply one. Secondly, I also noticed that the dates that HAD been posted by the person who I assumed had provided the original detail for the entry - were also slightly incorrect and I would have been happy to verify the correct dates for his clubs for you. Given that you obviously feel I am an imposter - please feel free to reach out to me at my ACTUAL email address: mariadaly@ymail.com. Should you wish to verify the location of both my internet connection and laptop - you will find they are in North Carolina because I am an expat from the UK. And, should you wish to speak with me directly AFTER emailing me - I would be happy to provide my telephone number also. I'm not quite sure how you can operate in a space where you believe everyone is an imposter but certainly, when it comes to my family's information on Wikipedia - I absolutely believe that the information should be both accurate and up to date and that people should be able to see what the subject matter looked like during his playing days. Like I said - happy to have you reach out - as I cannot even find an actual way to email you through this site. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariadbd13 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

Allan/Alan Thompson

You know what, I almost give up.

It's been an ongoing conversation among Sheffield Wednesday supporters and others for years as to whether it's Alan or Allan. I find him, confirm with him it's William Allan, and it can't be changed. Hey-ho. Doesn't matter really, it can stay being wrong.

I have an email from him - signed Allan, from an email address with 'Allan' in it. We spoke today via WhatsApp - so 'virtually' face to face - so I knew I was talking to the correct person, not some imposter. He confirmed with me in the conversation that it's Allan - we had a bit of a joke about it.

Wikipedia won't let me upload a picture of the email. Funny that. "An automated filter has identified this edit as potentially unconstructive, and it has been disallowed."

I'll not bother in future, it can stay wrong.

I have no idea what this means Jrd168 (talk) 20:27, 18 November 2020 (UTC) but it says I must do it. So, I have.

Kind regards, John

Consistency

Hello GiantSnowman! Do you think it is ok to say that Goal.com and 1 regional newspaper (Birmingham Mail, Circulation: 14,458) is enough to meet GNG ([16]) and in another case you simply ignore the sources ([17]). I added 2 sources to the draft (Goal.com, [18] and Aftenposten, [19] - Norway's largest printed newspaper by circulation: 211,769, estimated 1.2 million readers). Do you think that now there are enough sources to meet GNG? --Corwin of Amber (talk) 09:49, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Hans Andersen (born 1925) played his entire career for Lisleby. There was another Hans Andersen (born 1933) who played for Viking around the same time, and is the brother of fellow Viking player and former international goalkeeper Sverre Andersen. National Football Teams must have for some reason combined these two players into one. Anyway, Hans Andersen (1925) played for Lisleby from 1945 until 1964, as mentioned in this newspaper article on his 70th birthday: [20]. --Badmotorfinger (talk) 23:27, 8 December 2020 (UTC)

Did not know this person knew how to do this, but apparently they can (revert other users by clicking "undo")...

problem is that this Greek "user" has hundreds (thousands?) of IPs, they insert goal after goal after goal a player scores (thus going against WP:OVERDETAIL), using language like "fantastic goal", "emphatic win" and similar in the process. A bit belatedly, but i now used the article's talkpage (also contacted the other person. Not that it will amount to anything, they will just revert without "one inch of reply").

Chicago Storm

Thank you for looking at the Chicago Storm pages - Chicago Storm (soccer), Chicago Storm (professional softball team)]], and a Chicago Storm disambiguation page. There are two teams historically named the Chicago Storm, both now defunct. I delineated between the teams by creating a Chicago Storm (soccer) having already established a Chicago Storm (professional softball team) page. I moved the content of the Chicago Storm page, which was specific to the soccer team to the new page and made this a disambiguation page. Perhaps the issue here is a copy and paste method, which may not carry forward history. My apologies if that is incorrect. The structure created is, I believe correct. The methodology may need some editorial assistance. My thanks.Nbeeker (talk) 21:46, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Thank you. Understood. I did something similar with New England Pilgrims, Rochester Zeniths, and this Chicago Storm in creating a disambiguation page. Data will need to go to New England College, Rochester Zeniths (basketball), and Chicago Storm (soccer) to accurately carry the data forward. I've worked extensively to clean up pages that linked to these to ensure they don't link to a disambiguation page. Appreciate the learning and the help. Nbeeker (talk) 22:00, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

Respectfully, if two teams are named the same - Rochester Zeniths - to have one page named in a manner that doesn't distinguish which one (basketball or softball) seems confusing. Having each with a parenthetical descriptor would greatly clarify which team. I've also done extensive work on both pages and cleaned up links to each to clarify. There are numerous links now that are dead that direct to Rochester Zeniths (basketball). I'm not sure how to make this right. Nbeeker (talk) 22:09, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

You are correct regarding New England Pilgrims. I converted a redirect to a disambiguation to clarify the two teams that share a name. Thank you.Nbeeker (talk) 22:11, 21 December 2020 (UTC)

And I hope I can use Wikipedia to normal page watching once again once some PL matches kick off at 3PM on Saturday, seems like a long time ago since that last Saturday had multi 3PM kickoffs. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 19:17, 23 December 2020 (UTC)

Re:December 2020

You can find the reference for my edit regarding to Owen Windsor by the Transfermarkt Page that

  • He is a West Brom U23 player, which is not a regular West Brom first team player, and
  • You can find his birthday in the website
I am not sure what makes you think that Transfermarkt is a unreliable source, but you can also find the same information from official W.B.A. page. Including his birthday and he belongs to U23, which gives you the same information as Transfermarkt.
Actually his birthday is on Soccerway and Soccerbase reference (which you should considered as a reliable source). It would considered not careful not to check the original reference before reverting my edits. Also, the official W.B.A. page states he is a W.B.A. PL2 player.

The article Stranger Than... has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable - a re-publication of some books with no coverage. No references in the article and nothing other than a few eBay listings found.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Thank you for your contributions to this encyclopedia using 21st century technology. I hope you don't get any unnecessary blisters.
