Thanks. My rudimentary skills in reading Russian didn't permit me to be any bolder than making a talk page edit in English, I'm afraid! I wasn't sure where to enter the date, although it was clear that it was missing. Tyvm! --Dweller (talk) 10:29, 15 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not 100% sure of the pronunciation. Typically, that surname is pronounced /fowks/, but I have heard it pronounced /folks/. I'd put both up just to be sure. – PeeJay 16:57, 28 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia Stories Project

[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller with the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization that supports Wikipedia. I'm chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community around the world, including those from readers, editors, and donors. Stories are absolutely essential for any non-profit to persuade people to support the cause, and we know the vast network of people who make and use Wikipedia have so much to share.

I'm scouring user pages looking for inspiring, motivating and interesting stories of how Wikipedia has affected the lives of people. I'm asking questions like "How has Wikipedia changed your life?", "What's the most interesting story you have about Wikipedia?" and "Has Wikipedia ever surprised you?"

Last year, we used the annual fundraiser as a way to show the world who it is who actually writes Wikipedia. We featured editors from Brazil, Ukraine, Argentina, Saudi Arabia, Kenya, India, United States and England. This campaign was a huge success, resulting in the most financially successful fundraising campaign ever. It was also a campaign that stayed true to the spirit of Wikipedia, educating the public that this free top-5 website is created by volunteers like you and I.

This year we want to highlight more Russian-language Wikipedia editors, so I am in the process of planning a trip to Russia to interview editors.

If you or someone you know (or have heard about) has been positively affected by Wikipedia, or have something interesting to say about Wikipedia I'd very much like to hear about it!

Please let me know if you're inclined to take part in the Wikipedia Stories Project, or if you know someone else with whom I should speak.

Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I will answer as soon as I can. I apologize for any poor translation of this letter, I am using Google-translate. I hope it makes you laugh :)

Thank you for your time,

Victor Grigas

Can you put the source in ref tags please, not just in an edit summary? If someone comes to that article in a few years' time (as I did) and sees no source, they're not going to think to look in the edit history, they'll just delete the info again. – PeeJay 17:33, 7 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Jimmy Collinson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Lincoln City (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Ways to improve Bojan Kovačević

[edit]

Hello, Corwin of Amber,

Thank you for creating Bojan Kovačević.

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

What is needed are references from significant coverage about this player, and not their own words; in multiple secondary sources which are WP:RS; that is your guide. Lists, Team rosters, Soccerway, Instagram, Facebook, none of these are reliable sources. (There have been changes to the notability guide for sports - see WP:NSPORT ) You may also read WP:PRIMARY which details the limited permitted usage of primary sources. A more comprehensive guide is WP:SOURCES ... Providing sufficient references, ideally giving more information about this player, that meet these criteria is likely to allow this article to remain. Lack of them or an inability to find them is likely to mean that the topic is not suitable for inclusion.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, leave a comment here and begin it with {{Re|Whiteguru}}. Remember to sign your reply with ~~~~. For broader editing help, please visit the Teahouse.

Big Baby Tape speedy deletion nomination

[edit]

Hi there @Corwin of Amber,

I left a message contesting the speedy deletion of Big Baby Tape on its talk page, but I'll leave a similar rationale here. When I first published the article as a translation from the Russian Wikipedia, I didn't know that it was deleted before. Some errors in the page kind of signaled to me it might get deleted again, so I messaged the user who deleted it to at least make it a draft so I can fix any errors. I then decided to just redo the translation and add more sources and content, so I figured it would be a better article and thus have a better chance of establishing notability. I think the article as a whole is now at the point where it should stay, and of course more of the translation can be brought over at any time. I hope this explains it somewhat. Losipov (talk) 04:33, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • @Losipov I think you had to go to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion and make a request, not just simply recreate the article. Corwin of Amber (talk) 04:42, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know that, actually. There's still the draft I requested be brought back, at Draft:Big Baby Tape. That's the old, more problematic version. I spoke with @Lourdes about draftifying it so I could fix any errors, but I thought it was simply easier to do it at ContentTranslation. That way, I could see what went wrong and when I was done, move it to my own draftspace and check for anything I missed before moving to the mainspace.
Also, just to clear something up: I wasn't trying make any "spam" articles. I saw that one of the editors who recreated the page initially was eventually blocked for being a sockpuppet. I thought the subject would be notable so that's why I decided to do the translation. Again, I think this latest version is the best of the pages but others are free to disagree. Losipov (talk) 04:53, 27 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Corwin of Amber can you hold off on the speedy deletion for now? @Liz mentioned on my talkpage that I could work through AfC on it (it's probably better to do that anyway). The problem is, I need that older draft to be deleted so it can take its place. are you able to open up an AfD or something on that older version? Please let me know. Thanks in advance for your reply. Losipov (talk) 03:44, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You may contest speedy deletion: [7]. Corwin of Amber (talk) 05:24, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I had another question regarding him. I saw in a previous AfD that his albums were put up for deletion too. Where can I find those deleted articles? I'm planning on translating those articles from the Russian Wikipedia but wanted to know some information before that happens. Thanks in advance for your reply. Losipov (talk) 02:52, 7 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know, you may ask admin who deleted them. Corwin of Amber (talk) 03:49, 9 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
