I joined Wikipedia years ago but only started editing Wikipedia properly in 2018.
The main reason I joined Wikipedia because I'm sick of my city being criticised. My city is the City of Bradford which is currently the 6th biggest city in the UK (5th until 2015) yet we're the forgotten city. Whenever people talk about British cities they mention the same ones again and again, most of which just happen to have a Premier League or Championship football team. They never mention Bradford unless they're talking about things like curry, crime, poverty, race and religion. We're hardly on any maps of UK cities or towns for that matter, so it's no wonder smaller towns/cities have a distorted perception of how big they really are.
I'm here to change that!
I want to celebrate all the films, TV shows, film directors, producers, actors, TV presenters, screenwriters, authors, artists, singers, rappers, musicians, bands, politicians, inventors, scientists, sportsmen, sports teams, businesses, architectural buildings, tourist attractions, film locations, history etc that are from or based in my city with a blog.
I've joined the Wikipedia style website Quora in March 2018 for the same reason, as it has less rules, plus it was simpler there. But I gave up after around a year and a half. I was constantly fighting with the bots who ended up fighting with themselves. Plus the admins in the group I would go to, to get mistakes in locked topics corrected, stopped responding to after a while.
There's loads of stuff I know about my city (or Yorkshire itself) that either needs a Wikipedia page creating for it, or needs expanding on. Some subjects, mainly people, aren't considered "notable" enough by Wikipedia standards as there's not many independent sources that talk about them yet, but hopefully once my blog is started there will be.
The other main reason which forced me to join Wikipedia and Quora, and start editing more and more, was non-British people talking about the same British people, places and things again and again. The main subject being film and TV. They're constantly spreading misinformation about British TV shows, TV networks, TV channels, TV studios, TV production companies etc and it annoys the hell out of me. For example, they think every single British TV show is made by the BBC.
Again I'm here to change that!
One day all the best things about City of Bradford, Yorkshire and the United Kingdom (in my opinion) will be on Wikipedia. It might take a few years, but I'll get there eventually.
In January 2020 I started editing IMDB on an almost daily basis. Most additions go through straight away. Most corrections or deletions only take around 4 days maximum. There's only a few problem categories, where practically every addition, correction or deletion is declined, like Movie Connections. However if you have any problems, you can ask questions or request help in the IMDB Community at Sprinklr.
