Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to Hey, Hey, It's Esther Blueburger because they seemed inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page or take a look at our guidelines about links. Thank you. Materialscientist (talk) 11:43, 10 February 2023 (UTC) Hi there. Thanks for your interest. Are you sure you want to remove the link? It's a fabulous resource on Austrslian movies, really exhaustive. I have no connection with it. Click on the site and have a look - I think you will be impressed. Regards. Britfilm (talk) 11:45, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The Never Never Murder moved to draftspace

[edit]

Unfortunately, an article you recently created The Never Never Murder, is not ready as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage with citations from reliable and independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. I've moved your article to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's WP:GNG guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit the draft for review!" button at the top of the page. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 14:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC) No worries. Britfilm (talk) 01:56, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Writing "Add info" in the edit summary

[edit]

Could I respectfully ask you to stop just writing "Add info" in the edit summary? It is usually what you have written over time and its not very helpful to other editors. For example, in the case of your recent edits to The Chalk Garden, what you could write is something like "further production details from Neame's book." Also, can I ask you to proof-read text you have taken from a source like the Internet Archive? If you just copy and paste from a source like that, it often imports typos - text that the computer has misread. I have twice corrected such errors in the last few days. Many thanks Nickm57 (talk) 11:53, 9 May 2023 (UTC) No worries. Totally fair feedback. Appreciate the respectful tone. Britfilm (talk) 11:56, 9 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Television infobox date formats

[edit]

Your edits are appreciated. However, television infobox |first_aired= and |last_aired= dates should be formatted using the following formats:

  • {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD}}
  • {{Start date|YYYY|MM|DD|df=y}}
  • {{End date|YYYY|MM|DD}}
  • {{End date|YYYY|MM|DD|df=y}}

See Template:Infobox television for more info.

I understand putting in an MOS:DATE format when adding a new date, but please don't undo the formatting of dates that are already properly formatted: [1] TIA. ButlerBlog (talk) 12:35, 5 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Dirt (1979 film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to fail WP:NFILM

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. Hello and thank you for creating several articles on Australian topics. It looks as if they use citations provided by Trove. Although a handy starting point, Trove often links to the wrong Wikipedia article. For example, Trove archives of The Daily Telegraph (Sydney) usually contain wikilinks to The Daily Telegraph (London). The Sunday Times is another popular mislink; there full list of errors is in User:Certes/Trove. I've contacted Trove about the discrepancies, but they don't have the resource to fix their systems. Thanks again, Certes (talk) 17:13, 13 September 2023 (UTC) okay thanks for that yes I use Trove extensively. That's annoying about Trove! It will keep an eye out for it. Deletion discussion about Finger Your Neck

[edit]

Hello, Britfilm, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Significa liberdade, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Finger Your Neck, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Finger Your Neck.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Significa liberdade}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

I was really delighted to see this, thankyou for adding it - I went down a bit of a rabbit hole researching it eighteen months ago but never thought of putting it together into an article. It's not exactly the Great American Novel but the way that it got taken as fact by later historians is very fun, and a nicely cautionary tale.

I have a recollection from my earlier reading that the last attempted adaptation of this somehow got developed into the project that became Cutthroat Island (1995) - but on looking at it again the only definite connection I can see is Davis + the general theme, and I'm not sure I understand enough about the nuances of the industry to work out if that makes sense or not. On the other hand, the timing was very close, so maybe... Andrew Gray (talk) 14:45, 7 October 2023 (UTC) Look, it could be... I'm pretty sure Cutthroat Island was based on the life of Anne Bonney, as have so many films about female pirates... but it's hard to copyright facts. Cutthroat Island producers probably optioned another book about Bonney to cover themselves maybe? But that's just guessing. Thanks for your thanks. Britfilm (talk) 15:21, 7 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It is not just |section=. Take this {{citation}} template as an example:
{{Citation
  | author1=Australian Broadcasting Commission.
  | title=LISTENING POST
  | journal=ABC weekly
  | year=1939
  | issue=Vol. 8 No. 28 (27 July 1946)
  | location=Sydney
  | publisher=ABC
  | url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-1400339040
  | id=nla.obj-1400339040
  | access-date=23 December 2023
  | via=Trove
}}
Here is what is wrong with that citation template:
  • |author1=Australian Broadcasting Commission. – not the author; if any name can be used for this article, that name is probably 'Selector' but because 'Selector' is not a real name, I would drop it
  • |title=LISTENING POST – don't shout: |title=Listening Post
  • |journal=ABC weekly – not a scholarly or academic journal; use |magazine=, |newspaper=, or |periodical=
  • |year=1939 – where did you get this date? At the top of page 34 is the issue date: 'July 27, 1946'; use |date=July 27, 1946 or |date=27 July 1946; omit the nonsense |year=1939
  • |issue=Vol. 8 No. 28 (27 July 1946) – do not, do not, combine volume, issue, and date into a parameter intended to hold only 'issue' information; use |volume=8 |issue=28; see |year= above
  • |location=Sydney – for journal, magazine, newspaper, & periodical citations, |location= is generally omitted unless there is a need to disambiguate the journal/magazine/newspaper/periodical title
  • |publisher=ABC – for journal, magazine, newspaper, & periodical citations, |publisher= is generally omitted; if really required, do not abbreviate use |publisher=Australian Broadcasting Commission
  • |id=nla.obj-1400339040 – the path portion of a URL is not an identifier; omit
  • |page=34 – missing from the citation; do not omit insource locators
Trappist the monk (talk) 15:52, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok I didn't realise Trove was so off the pace. Have they been informed at all by someone from Wikipedia? Apologies again. Britfilm (talk) 01:46, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Umm, what? You wrote the citation. At Wikipedia, you are responsible for what you write.
Trappist the monk (talk) 02:07, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And you continue to write broken citations (Western Limit):
{{Citation
  | author1=Australian Broadcasting Commission.
  | title=NEWS and GOSSIP
  | journal=ABC weekly
  | issue=Vol. 14 No. 48 (29 November 1952)
  | url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.obj-1401475893
  | id=nla.obj-1401475893
  | access-date=21 January 2024
  | via=Trove
}}
Australian Broadcasting Commission is not an author; don't SHOUT the title; ABC Weekly is not a scholarly or academic journal; volume, issue, and date need their own parameters (|volume=, |issue=, |date=); repeating the path portion of the url in |id= is pointless.
Please stop writing malformed citation templates.

Hello, Britfilm,
This category was tagged for CSD C1 speedy deletion because it is empty. It doesn't matter whether it had parent categories assigned to it or not but it looks like there have never been any so nothing was removed. It will sit for 7 days and if it is still empty after a week, it will be deleted. If it is deleted and there is a need for it in the future, it can be recreated. This is unlike categories that are deleted through Categories for Discussion which can not be recreated if it is decided that they should be deleted. It would be worth your time to participate in those discussions if you haven't already done so. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 19:17, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Liz, thanks for getting back to me! At one stage there actually were a fair few entries but they were all removed from each page. I've set it up again as Category:Australian plays presented by J.C. Williamson's. Thank you! Britfilm (talk) 00:52, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article The Queer Affair at Kettering has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of any notability, all we have is "this will air, this is the summary as provided by the ABC", not even a contemporary review, never mind any WP:SUSTAINED indepth attention.

In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Speedy deletion nomination of Arthur of Van Dieman's Land

Why aren't you autopatrolled?

[edit]

If you have got the hang of our notability guidelines and do not have any personal philosophies to put before them, you likely should be autopatrolled. Thoughts? — Usedtobecool ☎️ 14:49, 22 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

If you think I am ready? Flattered! Britfilm (talk) 13:39, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So, here's the thing. Your work looks good to me. I don't see the benefit to someone double checking every one of them. But autopatrolled is a responsibility. It is your commitment to the community that you are going to abide by project guidelines. In essence, it means you don't first decide a topic and then go looking for sources. Instead, you'll have to first look for sources and if you don't find a couple good ones, be able to resist the want to create an article for that topic even if you think that would be a loss. If that sounds good to you, I would recommend you; I can't actually change your permissions. Regards! — Usedtobecool ☎️ 14:52, 23 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to join New pages patrol

[edit]

Hello Britfilm!

  • The New Pages Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles needing review. We could use a few extra hands to help.
  • We think that someone with your activity and experience is very likely to meet the guidelines for granting.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time, but it requires a strong understanding of Wikipedia’s CSD policy and notability guidelines.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision, and feel free to post on the project talk page with questions.
  • If patrolling new pages is something you'd be willing to help out with, please consider applying here.

Thank you for your consideration. We hope to see you around!

An additional note. It may be worth considering adding some of the additional meta-type data that new page patrols (and other WP:GNOMES) tend to add to new articles. Such as WP:DEFAULTSORTs, WP:Short descriptions, and WP:WikiProject banners (I use User:Evad37/rater to help add and update which projects, assessments, and so on for pages). I think my edits on The Punk and its talk page might help give examples of the edits I mean. In any event, these aren't required to do by any means but is generally useful and I've noticed that consistently makes getting auto patrolled more likely, if you care about such things. But definitely thanks for making these articles. Skynxnex (talk) 17:12, 28 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Night of the Gods

[edit]

I see another editor removed for the moment your edit on 1886 eruption of Mount Tarawera as unreferenced which I would not challenge given the work that went into get it to a GA grade article. Certainly should be mentioned if a verifiable source exists. You might like to know the BBC did the play as BBC Saturday Night Theatre on 31 Jan 1959 ( Genome 31/1/1959) as well as the replay on 2nd Feb that you did note. I can not verify myself that any of the references used by you in your new article Night of the Gods mention the context or the eruption but do not hunt beyond paywalls. I might suspect given the looting etc in real life that happened after eruption that context might be important. ChaseKiwi (talk) 23:08, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ways to improve Dark Moon (novel)

Hello, Britfilm,

Thank you for creating Dark Moon (novel).

I have tagged the page as having some issues to fix, as a part of our page curation process and note that:

The reference look like little more than routine coverage from 1953 and 1954, and don't seem to meet the notability criteria for books. I wonder whether it might be better to create a page for Helen Heney, consolidating her works there. We could even start one by moving this page to her name.

Autopatrolled granted

[edit]

Hi Britfilm, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the autopatrolled user right to your account. This means that pages you create will automatically be marked as 'reviewed', and no longer appear in the new pages feed. Autopatrolled is assigned to prolific creators of articles, where those articles do not require further review, and may have been requested on your behalf by someone else. It doesn't affect how you edit; it is used only to manage the workload of new page patrollers.

Since the articles you create will no longer be systematically reviewed by other editors, it is important that you maintain the high standard you have achieved so far in all your future creations. Please also try to remember to add relevant WikiProject templates, stub tags, categories, and incoming links to them, if you aren't already in the habit; user scripts such as Rater and StubSorter can help with this. As you have already shown that you have a strong grasp of Wikipedia's core content policies, you might also consider volunteering to become a new page patroller yourself, helping to uphold the project's standards and encourage other good faith article writers.

Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! – Joe (talk) 09:44, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

recent new category

[edit]

Did you check - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Bushrangers Or look to the articles for examples of the articles https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_Kelly

or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moondyne

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robbery_Under_Arms I may have got it very wrong - perhaps https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Biographies_about_bushrangers

is too narrow in context, as historical novels might have been possible within the scope?

Apologies if I missed the mark somewhere... JarrahTree 11:34, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent question. I saw "biographies about businessmen" was a category so adapted that. Maybe biographies about bushrangers is too narrow... Books about bushrangers? Honesty I'm easy - would appreciate any thoughts you had! Thank you Britfilm (talk) 12:02, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Precedence (as understood in the term as used in law) is an important process here in wikipedia, where if there is an established practice of items to be taken as good examples - to look at an unrelated subject is never a very good idea - as it is you have gone off and created novels about bushrangers. The parent category of novels and biography could be books about bushrangers... I don't think it is something arbitrary or ad hoc, there should be some consistency from examples as close as possible to the subject. But hey, who knows ? JarrahTree 12:42, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I think "novels about bushrangers" is a category that we should have and I have introduced I think it's a terrific idea. I've found three "biographies about bushrangers". I'm sure there are more. Maybe we keep it for a while and see how it goes? Perhaps categories could be merged down the track. Thank you for your interest, feedback and thoughts they are great appreciated. Britfilm (talk) 12:47, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In most cases categories like the ones that you have created are not merged. Separation of media/modes of expression whatever which separate things about bushrangers is a process that is usually required. But a close look at the main Bushranger category might elicit other things as well. JarrahTree 12:52, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Learn as you go

[edit]

Thanks for all the articles. I've been fixing a bunch of over-capitalization and mis-punctuation in citations from Trove. These are among the things that you can learn to fix when creating articles and citations. No all-caps titles, no period after title, and don't cap words like "Of" or "And" in newspaper names. See MOS:CAPS. Also see MOS:DASH for when to use dashes, when to use spaces around them (e.g. in "1880 – 11 May 1930" needs the spaces, but "1880–1930" does not), when not to use them (e.g. never "From 11–14" type things). And about commas after state names and such per MOS:GEOCOMMA. Also, please always put a blank line before any heading. Take a look at the diffs of others on articles you've created to get an idea how much work you could save others. Dicklyon (talk) 16:08, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

"Non-free" images from old newspapers

[edit]

For images like File:Jackey Jackey the bushranger.png, you should probably mark them as public domain, not non-free. In Australia, copyright of items with unknown author expire 50 years after publication, as I read it. If they're non-free, they will be reduced to a small unreadable size and the original upload will be deleted. Dicklyon (talk) 19:17, 11 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

To do this right, upload in Wikimedia Commons, not in Wikipedia itself, and use both {{PD-Australia}} and {{PD-US-expired}} as the license tags. If you need help, ask. Dicklyon (talk) 04:31, 12 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

what next 'the bush?' - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Plays_set_in_the_Australian_outback fair crack of the whip mate, we gonna get the plays set in wooloomolloo next? You gotta be careful, you might stir the one item in the cat ghost, they linghers to strike fear in the free and easy cat creators... cripes, throw another prawn on the barbie before the crow starts singing god save the bunyip... JarrahTree 03:49, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate the imagination of this feedback :) - I am just trying to increase the categories for plays... some of the ones for films are along the lines of the ones I've created for plays. I do appreciate the message it made me smmile. Britfilm (talk) 04:20, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
sheesh outback is nebulous and undistinguishable as the The Bush - if you cannot populate a category with 20+ items - stop before you start or the steak on the barbie will bite back JarrahTree 04:24, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay persuaded. I'll delete. Britfilm (talk) 04:29, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
bah, shark meat method - find 20 bloody items that might not have the outback specifically in the title but are clearly in that nebulous lot of dusty area - needs a stretch of the imagination to clarify, not that difficult. JarrahTree 04:33, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No you convinced me - "outback" too vague... does it need to be desert? can it be rainforest? etc I'll stick with state delineation. And if I find 20 plays set in Woolomooloo I'll def do that :) Britfilm (talk) 04:55, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

edit summaries are just that, adding small novels to edit summaries is like, another crab on the barbie - edit summaries are meant to be brief and concise, I am not sure why or how there is a need to fill them with article details, or where that came from, but unless someone proves me wrong, you are throwing the confetti into on coming wind - the edit summary gets lost in the edit history, and will be truncated forever after...

When a page is created without an edit summary, the page contents get stuck in as an automatic summary. Dicklyon (talk) 04:56, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like all of Britfilm's new pages come without edit summaries. Bad. Dicklyon (talk) 05:00, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Dicklyon - I was sure I was getting something very wrong... the point is Britfilm has been editing long enough to see what happens in the place - lack of edit summaries is a very bad sign JarrahTree 10:19, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It's not "Bad"; it's definitely not "a very bad sign". And they're not without summary, they're with automated summaries. It's something a lot of people do, including admins. Personally, I like these kinds of edit summaries that often give enough on what the articles are about, especially compared to stuff like "c", "r", "create" or "start". But say I didn't, say nobody did, edit summaries are not compulsory. It's just something the rest of us might appreciate. Brit has an edit summary usage rate of 99%, compared to Dicklyon's 90%, and JarrahTree doesn't have 100% either. So, how about making a polite suggestion as to what it is you might appreciate and leaving it entirely up to them to take it or leave it, instead of throwing over the top cliches as though they're two minutes away from being blocked? Just because they're nice doesn't mean you have to keep piling on. You both have been around long enough to know you'd be kicked out from most regular editors' talk pages pulling stuff like this. — Usedtobecool ☎️ 12:15, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Plays set in the Australian outback indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 05:32, 13 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Saurian (film)

[edit]

Hello Britfilm,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Saurian (film) for deletion, because it's a redirect from an article title to a namespace that's not for articles.

If you don't want Saurian (film) to be deleted, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

Repeated errors

[edit]

This is just a reminder about errors that you are repeatedly making in the hope that you will avoid them in the future. In the new film articles you are creating, you are mistakenly writing that a reviewer "said" something. You should write that the reviewer "wrote" something. In addition, you need to place a comma after the word "wrote" and before the quotation marks for the quoted text. You have forgotten to include the comma in your recently created articles. Also, the word "YouTube" is one word. You have repeatedly written it as two words, which is incorrect. Please keep these details in mind for the articles you create in the future. Over-capitalized ref titles

[edit]

You continue to add refs with links through over-capitalized redirects, e.g. to The Newsletter: An Australian Paper For Australian People in this edit and this edit. And to The Mount Barker Courier And Onkaparinga And Gumeracha Advertiser in this edit. And to Newcastle Morning Herald And Miners' Advocate in this edit. You can find more such via the links in this report: Wikipedia:Database reports/Linked miscapitalizations. Maybe you can take a look and try to clean up after yourself, so I don't have to do it. Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved content from Peter Pan (1954 musical) into Peter Pan (Producers' Showcase). While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content (here or elsewhere), Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content, disclosing the copying and linking to the copied page, e.g., copied content from [[page name]]; see that page's history for attribution. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. Please provide attribution for this duplication if it has not already been supplied by another editor, and if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, you should provide attribution for that also. The Wayward Stork

[edit]

Hey, I've removed the synopsis from The Wayward Stork as the quote likely doesn't fall under Non-free content criteria. Synopses can be easily be written in one's own words and therefore fail the first criteria: "Non-free content is used only where no free equivalent is available, or could be created, that would serve the same encyclopedic purpose" If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
