Welcome to the 40th edition of my talk page. Please leave me a message below and I will generally reply on your talk page. Although my email address is enabled, I do not check often (so I may be slow in replying to email and very much prefer to have conversations here). Please note that while I will do a peer review on just about any article if asked, it will often take me a week or more, and I do not have the time to do copyedits. If you want me to review an article, please open a peer review on it first. Thanks for stopping by and happy editing! Ruhrfisch ><>°° 01:46, 1 December 2013 (UTC)
C-SPAN back at FAC
Hi there, Ruhrfisch. I realize it's been some time since you were actively involved with the C-SPAN article, but your suggestions and edits were very helpful in improving the page the first time I went through the FAC process, so I wanted to let you know that I've re-submitted it.
If you are interested in stopping by and giving the article one final review it would be greatly appreciated. And, if everything checks out, I hope you'll be able to voice your support. The discussion on the FAC page can be found here. Cheers, WWB Too (Talk · COI) 18:26, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Sullivan County NRHP sites
For a purely egotistical reason - a big red splotch on the NRHP article quality map - I'd like to get at least one of the articles Eagles Mere Historic District and Sullivan County Courthouse (Pennsylvania) up to the level of "Start". I know you've brought the majority of the NRHP articles in that county up to FA. So any interest in working on those 2? Any help appreciated. Smallbones(smalltalk) 19:24, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Hi Ruhrfisch, I'd like to submit Ezra Pound for PR and have made an absolute mess! I forgot to save the talk page. I thought it wouldn't transclude and so did it again, which created two PR pages, #2, and #3. To add insult to injury, I've put a page delete tag on number three, [2], but that's the one that's transcluded. Please advise! Thanks. Hope you're well and surviving btw - don't see you around much these days. Victoria (tk) 00:38, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
Notification of automated file description generation
Your upload of File:Black Hawk War 1832 Base Map.PNG or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.
This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Thanks and please
My email account has just been opened up, after weeks of resistance from its resident bug, and so I saw the message you sent me last month. Sorry not to have acknowledged before, but I had no idea it was there! I'm not sure the Shackleton documentary has been shown here yet, but I'll look out for it. I don't write much in that line these days, but I still find the stories of the old expeditions gripping.
I realise that you are not too active these days, but I would very much value your input on an issue which has arisen on my current FAC, Profumo affair, which recounts a notorious British political scandal of 1963. There are no relevant non-free images of the main protagonists, so the article is festooned with location shots and quote boxes. I have, however, claimed fair use for the lead image of Profumo, the central figure in the scandal, because of his very close identification with the affair to the exclusion of almost every other aspect of his life. My use has been challenged, perfectly reasonably, at the FAC. I would like to get a wider range of opinion on the issue and, if you have a moment or two, would be very grateful if you would look in. Brianboulton (talk) 13:58, 16 February 2014 (UTC)
- (Later): There is no longer a need for you to concern yourself with this, as there has been sufficient discussion on the FAC page to resolve the issue. I hope that you are well and that you may one day feel ready to return to regular editing. Best wishes, Brianboulton (talk) 00:16, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Greetings- I'm back on a limited basis
Hey Bro- I'm back with minimal access to the internet, after spending about 6 months very sick in the hospital at Death's Door (see my talk page or contact User:koavf, who I had to write via snail mail) for details. Currently, I am in a Nursing Home learning how to walk and breathe on my own. I hope to find alternatives so I can do more serious editing soon, and not just from this computer in the gym!! Big love to you, of course! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 19:24, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Can you help me and another photographer wiki editor out?
Hi! Thanks for your assistance! I got the following email from a very professional and generous new Wikipedian but don't have enough time and access to help him. I think I helped him upload a photo to Commons and now he has a better one which unknowingly he posted and it was nominated for deletion... something like that, probably to Wikipedia, not commons? As I said, I haven't the time to check it out but he is so worth it. Just needs a bit of guidance as a newbie. His email reads thus: Hi, it's Brian McMillen the jazz photographer. Are you still working on Wikipedia? You were so helpful to me. If you are, I am feeling swamped trying to delete a photo, or even send a message to another user, such as your self, via your talk page. I don't know how to do that, so I am emailing.
- I received an email from a certain user, Mercurywoodrose, who is streamlining categories, and also wants to delete file of mine, because I've uploaded a higher quality version of the same image, which is in use on a Wikipedia page. The old one looks bad and is not being used anywhere. I am happy to delete it, but don't know how, and don't know how to say it's OK to do it. Can you help??
I was directed to https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Red_Garland.jpg
I hope you are doing super! And if you aren't working on this stuff any more, sorry to bug you.
Best regards, brianmcmillen

Image review
Hi Ruhrfisch, I wonder if I could ask a favour, please? I have an article at FAC at the moment that is in need of an image review. I normally pester Crisco until he cries and gives in, but as he's cleaned and uploaded some of the images here, he's recused himself from duties. Would you be able to step into the role on this one? No problems if you're unable to, of course. Cheers - SchroCat (talk).
Hi Ruhrfisch, I know you're not around much these days, sadly, but am stopping by to ask for a favor. File:Hemingway bullfighting cropped.png got deleted from Commons and from the article, [3], and I'm hoping we can rescue the image. It's one from the Kennedy Library, with copyright released, so it shouldn't have been deleted. I remember that you made a template for those, and I probably should know where to find that. If we can bring it back, I was thinking maybe upload here and put a "keep local" tag on, so that I can watch. My Commons access is problematic and I don't seem to have the energy to do anything about it. I'm not in a hurry at all, but if you're really not around or not editing, then I understand completely and will ask someone else. I hope all is well. Enjoy your summer. Victoria (tk) 23:43, 23 June 2014 (UTC)
I know...
...it's a big ask, but I've had The Boat Race 2012 open at PR for nearly three weeks now, and nothing. I'm not sure why it's such an undesirable article to peer review, but for some reason it's going to drop off the arse end of PR with nothing. Any chance, as a favour to a fellow who used to do quite a bit of PR work, that you or someone you know could cast an eye over the article? Not a problem if it's no go, just let me know and I'll avoid taking these articles to PR, at the moment I've got about 8 GAs and 10 GANs, several of which I want to take to FAC but would prefer a PR beforehand.... if each nomination is greeted with three weeks of silence, I'll know to avoid that process and go straight for FAC. Hope you're well, my best. The Rambling Man (talk) 19:47, 1 July 2014 (UTC)

Honey, I'm home!
After 10 months in the hospital, I am back, albeit slowly right for the next couple of weeks, but I'm staying in my father's home until I'm more stabilized and everything in my body doesn't hurt just from standing or sitting! So much has changed since I've been gone; rules that relate to what I do (esp. in uploading photos from Flickr-- I see some are now directly uploaded there differently) so I'm going to have plenty of questions. Happy to be home though. Missed you and a few more here.. funny. --Leahtwosaints (talk) 16:48, 25 August 2014 (UTC)
Announcing: NRHP Fall Photo Contest!
The WP:NRHP Fall 2014 Photo Contest will kick off at midnight eastern time on Monday September 1! This is an opportunity for all folks with a camera (or a sketchpad and scanner, doncha know) and an interest in the National Register of Historic Places to just have some low-key fun and maybe get some barnstars. Come submit some photos or pose a challenge to your fellow editors. And maybe, just maybe, along the line we'll improve the encyclopedia... (Note that while this contest is intentionally concurrent with Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 and the Wikipedia Summer of Monuments, there ain't gonna be no cash prizes or press releases here. But compete in 'em all if you like - we won't be jealous.) — Ipoellet (talk) 22:55, 30 August 2014 (UTC)

I am pretty sure I can update the article in plenty of time before Jan 9 (and have lots of new photos to upload too), but the blurb will need to be updated to reflect this as well. - As I am still feeling my way in the business of TFA scheduling (and "procedure" is not my strong point!) I'd prefer not to reschedule the bridge, unless it's impossible to update it in time. There are complications about changing the temporary protection, etc. Perhaps you'd leave me a message aound 3rd or 4th, if you think it would be inadvisable to run the article on 9th, and I'll deal with it then. Since so many people we know, living in the melting pot of Washington DC have all kinds of religious beliefs (or none at all), we decided to follow an idea from a Seinfeld TV suggestion that was sort of funny but works for us... so Merry Festivus to you in this holiday season! Last year this time I was in a coma, so I guess now that I'm out of the hospital ICU and the nursing homes learning how to raise my head from my pillow, pushing the button for the nurse, which I was too weak to do even though the fragile very elderly patients could use the "special" one that they tried with me, to eventually sitting on my own, and by August 2014 walking, I've been blessed. Merry Festivus and thank you kindly for remembering me. You have helped me in so many ways as both an editor/Admin. and a really decent stand-up kind of guy, I'm honored! Calling all talk page stalkers - eyes needed on Hillsgrove Covered Bridge before TFA
I am done for the night (and nearly done overall) revising Hillsgrove Covered Bridge, which will be Wikipedia:Today's featured article/January 8, 2015. I have checked all the online references and updated many of them and added quite a bit (the article was featured in 2008, then the bridge was restored in 2010, severely damaged in two floods in 2011, and restored again in 2012). If anyone has the time and inclination, I would appreciate it you could look over my work and see if it reads well. I also changed most of the pictures in the article (mostly to newer versions of the same view in the restored bridge), but there is a new lead image (a composite of views before restoration in 2008, flood damaged in 2011, and restored in 2012) and I added two new images - one of flood damage from inside the bridge and another of restoration work in progress. I still need to upload more image of the restored bridge and may try to get a few more photos before the 8th. Anyway, any copy edits or comments here or on the article's talk page are very welcome. I also need to tweak the TFA blurb. Thanks in advance, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:34, 6 January 2015 (UTC)
- Nice to see another Pennsylvania article on the main page, plus with new photos. The bridge restoration looks like it came out great, not at all like my updated photo of the Waterford Covered Bridge. I flipped the order of a couple sentences on the restoration to follow chronologically and to clarify some of it. - Thanks Niagara and Victoria! Niagara, thanks for catching the out of order sentences, and sorry about the Waterford bridge. Hopefully they will find a way to repair it before long - one advantage of time is that I've seen how several bridges have been fixed around here over the past decade or so. I have more photos of the Presque Isle Light that I will try to upload them - ping me if I am slow. I also got some pictures of the Sky walk at Kinzua this summer, and will try to upload them too. - May I pay tribute to the excellent work you've done in updating this article in preparation for its TFA. Had I known the story since 2008 (restoration, floods, re-restoration etc), and the effort this would place on you, I probably would not have scheduled it. But I think it looks wonderful on the main page, and I hope you think the effort was worthwhile. Brianboulton (talk) 23:30, 8 January 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks so much Brian - updating the article had been on my list for some time (and I had been taking pictures all along), so it was a pleasure. This morning I took a road trip to see all three Sullivan County covered bridges, and had a very enjoyable time (plus I got some nice photos as it was sunny with a bit of fresh snow). I am working on updating Sonestown - it was also badly damaged in the same flood as Hillgrove, and restored (albeit a year later). Take care, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 04:22, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

Evidence close
Hi Ruhrfisch, I'd like to let you know that the evidence for the infoboxes review case had been extended to the 10th a while back, and isn't due today. Martijn Hoekstra (talk) 12:38, 6 February 2015 (UTC)
- Not for the review but my private enlightening: what do you believe was the most recent battle and/or the most recent "disruption" in the infobox wars? (Caution: loaded question, because I silently believe the wars are a myth). To my knowledge, adding an infobox to Cosima Wagner two days after she was TFA was the last thing which could have been called a disruption, given that I don't see how an infobox for a woman who wasn't even a classical composer could fall in that category. This was on 26 December 2012. Time to move forward, If you ask me. - "Review" means looking back, no? - I am working on the TFA for tomorrow, and don't remove the infobox ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:01, 6 February 2015 (UTC)Martijn Hoekstra
- My sincere thanks to Martijn Hoekstra. to Gerda, I would say the current Arbcom review is the latest flare-up in the disputes. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 16:55, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thanks, but not what I asked: I would like to be pointed at a battle with edit warring about an infobox, because I am on Wikipedia for five years and didn't see one yet. I was welcomed to the club of infobox warriors on Sparrow Mass, but see yourself if that was justified, --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:20, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Music is good. I have had my say on the other topic and would prefer not to discuss it further. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 19:24, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Discuss? I was hoping for evidence, because I'm in the dark. Will stay there, I got used to it, even made a musical DYK about it, ... that the hymn "Jesu, meine Freude (Jesus, my joy) by Johann Franck and Johann Crüger mentions singing in defiance of the "old dragon", death, and fear? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 19:41, 11 February 2015 (UTC)
- Gerda, I do not know how else to say it. I am not very active on WP anymore, and have no idea what the latest disputes are. For what little I do know, I said my piece at the Arbcom review, and have no desire to spend more time on the topic. I am glad you like music, perhaps you will understand this better: I do not want to , I just want this to . Ruhrfisch ><>°° 03:19, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Clarification
In remembering the infobox "clarifications", I don't understand you: they are all neatly archived in the case. It has been pointed out with simple math that the topic ban is about having an infobox where there was none (O to 1), OR having none where there was one (1 to 0), stress on OR, - NOT to replace one type by another (1 to 1). Ask the lawyers. - The "remedy" was not thought about much, because banning was on the table, with six to five votes for it at a time, and alternatives were not considered much, it seemed such an easy solution. I remember how sick I was because of it, and that an arb came over to my talk advising me to stay away for some time. "Sick at heart" was mentioned, and "In te speravi." That arb changed his mind, to my relief. I will sing "In te speravi" tonight. - Please let's "make music, music, music" (from the Gloria) ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:56, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

Peer review of Utica, New York
Would you be interested in peer reviewing Utica, New York? This article has been going through a massive overhaul over the past month. It's had a lot of WP:WTW added, confusion, a WP:FORUM on its talk page, and has gone through WP:PP and WP:S-P. Eventually, I think it is capable of being a WP:GA, but it's not ready to tread those waters until the breadth and depth is taken care of, and everything is verified, valid and reliable. Just too much curiosity, I guess
In Metal Township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania there is the Fannetsburg Reformed church built in 1844 with this sign by their cemetery. They are only open 1 Sunday each year, so I'd have some difficulty asking them, and the township doesn't have a website. It's as rural as Pennsylvania gets. I've been looking just because the sign makes no sense to me. Maybe something about Metal Township? There's some vague stuff, not localized to here, about radioactive waste from fracking. Do you have any guesses? Smallbones(smalltalk) 23:34, 22 June 2015 (UTC)
- Always good to hear from you. I have only had very limited internet access for a few weeks, but off the top of my head I wonder if the rock used in local tombstones might sometimes be radioactive. If it were, then it may at one point have been fun for folks with Geiger counters to test them on different tombstones. Not sure how reasonable this sounds, but it is the best idea I can come up with now. User:Choess may be able to provide more information. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 06:47, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- PS Fracking fluids that come back up contain dissolved salts and are often radioactive (because there are naturally occurring radioactive substances down there that dissolve or are otherwise transported back up). Ruhrfisch ><>°° 06:51, 26 June 2015 (UTC)
- No idea. It doesn't seem to be in either a fracking-heavy region or have significant uranium deposits. ("Metal Township" is from iron ore banks, incidentally.) Some of the rock formations could still have radon potential, of course. I thought maybe the Geiger counters could also be a sign of "paranormal investigators" but an Internet search doesn't turn up any legends connected with the cemetery. Maybe the writer of this article could help? Choess (talk) 19:43, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Kinzua updates
So, I went to the Kinzua Viaduct on Saturday for the first time since 10/2008. I have some updates, some we may need to find a way to work in. First, for reasons that baffle me, the sign in this photo has been removed from the bridge, despite being there in 2008. Second, I have numerous photos of the skywalk and the damage, plus the new angles and everything you can get. Also, the place has gone from a place of peace to a tourist trap and I'm rather disappointed.Mitch32(The best ideas are common property.) 01:22, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Peer review of Mont Blanc massif
Would you have a moment to quickly look at this GA article on the Mont Blanc massif before it drops off Peer Review as being unanswered? All I'm after is a basic Yes/No as to whether it appears worthy of going to WP:FAC.
I shall probably nominate it if it does get closed automatically as I've worked to all Featured Article guidelines. (At least I believe I have). But it might save some embarrassment if someone could give it a quick glance for anything glaring that would make it big non-no. Greetings – it's been a while... I hope you are well. I would like to run the Soneston bridge article as TFA next month, perhaps on 24th, the anniversary of its National Register of Historic Places listing. I pinged you at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Emily Ratajkowski/archive5 because the current nomination is at an impasse with a discussant who states that the writing is not up to snuff for an FA. I think if I can get the article past that discussant, I can get it promoted. Since you have been one of the editors who has helped me to copy edit articles that have gotten promoted at FAC, I am wondering if you might be interested in copyediting Emily Ratajkowski, even though it is far afield from your interests.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 05:02, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi Ruhrfisch.. I hope you are doing well ... It is been a long time since you helped Ahalya's journey to a FA. The article Chinnamasta was recently expanded for a potential FAC. Like Ahalya, Chinnamasta will benefit from reviewers, who are unfamiliar with Hinduism so that we can know if a non-Hindu understands the article. Extended confirmed protection
Hello, Ruhrfisch. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.
Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.
In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:
- Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
- A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.
Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:49, 23 September 2016 (UTC)
