Update

Hey man, don't edit out my contributions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.190.142.55 (talk) 22:10, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

No, you didn't miss the update, because it hasn't been posted yet! At least, it's not showing up on my PC.

Victuallers said he would do it and I know he posted the hooks to the update page, but the update is not yet showing up on the mainpage. Gatoclass (talk) 13:09, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

It's finally showing up, did you do that? Gatoclass (talk) 13:13, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, the right one is showing up now, what does that mean, did Victuallers forget to purge the cache? I was waiting around for the update to be posted so I could do the notifications, and suddenly you've done them all and the update isn't even showing! Gatoclass (talk) 13:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I was just wondering whether or not you are supposed to purge the cache. I think that it's part of the update routine isn't it? Gatoclass (talk) 13:19, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I see it's part of the routine. Vic must just have overlooked it, I guess because he is busy ATM.
Thanks for coming back to purge the cache anyhow, and for doing the notifications :) Gatoclass (talk) 13:23, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I saw your notification at WP:Rivers. I looked it over, and have a few thoughts about structure, but need to mull it over a little more. Also, some thoughts about the coord stuff, which is more general than this article, but I may bring up anyway. -Pete (talk) 17:16, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

I've provided a few comments. But hey, we're up to yesterday now on the PR backlog. Good job all round I'd say! Wonder if you could roll this concept out to WP:GAN as the backlog there is always a bit of a nightmare.... The Rambling Man (talk) 18:06, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Is there any nice bot operator you could approach to run over the PRs and update the backlog notice say four times a day? The Rambling Man (talk) 08:17, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Black Moshannon State Park

I too am pretty sure that the dam was built in the 1950s and it may say so in the pdf documents about the NRHP survey. Dincher (talk) 03:34, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I did see that Bok is up for review. It's a relief. The changes to Black Moshannon are looking pretty good. When do you expect it to be ready for PR? I see that the Larry's list is up for PR too. Dincher (talk) 05:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Your plans sound good to me. I am looking forward to seeing the detail map and the added history. Dincher (talk) 14:57, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Go for the geology section too. Question about Creeks in the creek section. Dincher (talk) 23:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

I created the Black Moshannon State Park Historic Districts section. It's just a cut and paste for now. Off to Bok. Dincher (talk) 17:07, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I added this historic district article to state park article and cut out this parts about the specific districts since that are part of the historic district article. Is this okay? Finished with Francis for now.Dincher (talk) 18:53, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
The nomination is in. Dincher (talk) 18:58, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing what needed to be fixed. Is the DYK nom in the correct place?Dincher (talk) 20:27, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I am ready for Black Mo to go to PR if you are. Dincher (talk) 17:37, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

There request for PR is in. I think. Here [1] Dincher (talk) 18:37, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

But it is not completely correct. Something looks wrong to me. Hopefully you'll know what to do. It's not on the PR page that lists the other Geography articles for PR and I don't know how to get it there. Dincher (talk) 18:44, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

I guess we could add the bits about the sizes of the park and some about the airport, but I don't think it is a pressing need. Dincher (talk) 02:25, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

You are more than welcome for adding you to the PR of Black Mo and also most deserving. You do a good job of polishing the articles that we've worked on. List of municipalities in Sullivan County, Pennsylvania is missing from here. Not sure how to add it. Does the Black Mo notice belong under announcements or wikiproject requests? Once I know I'll do it. I guess it could go under open tasks at the Protected area page. Dincher (talk) 00:58, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Requesting help?

Hello! You had peer reviewed Bibliography of Edgar Allan Poe recently and made some great suggestions. I'm having trouble, however, figuring out how to properly cite the web references, including access dates. I've tried it a few times but keep messing up formatting. Could you lend a hand on a couple and I'll just follow your lead? --Midnightdreary (talk) 13:45, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Many thanks! I've just nominated it for FL. --Midnightdreary (talk) 12:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Creeks

You might wonder why I've been reading White Deer Hole Creek. It's because I've been using Larrys Creek as a model for Johnson Creek (Willamette River), which I've been pushing from stub class to something more complete. The two creeks are remarkably similar in length but remarkably dissimilar in other ways. Johnson Creek, though making something of a comeback, is urban and has been abused for many decades. I had no clear idea of how to do a creek when I started, but I learned a lot by imitating what I saw on the Larrys Creek page. That led me to White Deer Hole Creek, also pretty much your doing, also FA, and also of similar length. Excellent models, for which I say thanks. Finetooth (talk) 17:28, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Just how many Licking Creeks are there in Pennsylvania? This one passes through Cowans Gap State Park and I found one running through Sligo (quite the name, Sligo that is). Dincher (talk) 23:18, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, that's a lot of Licking Creeks! or lickin' cricks. Dincher (talk) 00:51, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

R, I have completed following your suggestions at this article's peer review. I believe that you'll be pleased with what I was able to accomplish. Could you please take a look at it and let me know what you think? Again, thanks for your input; as I stated on the peer review, I think that your constructive feedback has really made a difference and helped to substantially improve the article. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 21:37, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. While this is still going on, I've just made my final touch-ups on the list for a little known French/Canadian children's cartoon called The Bellflower Bunnies. I think I am the only Wikipedian who knows so much, so far, about the show and its original book series material.

I'm also willing to submit this as an FLC in a few days. Tell me what you think of the page, and I'll address concerns soon. --Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 02:35, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I noticed that you actively help out in copy edits in addition to writing exciting articles of your own. I have this article in FAC currently. The biggest issue I face is with prose. Can you please help polish the prose in this article if you have the time. Thanks Dineshkannambadi (talk) 02:10, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Thank you. I really hope you do find the time.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 14:37, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
You are welcome anytime. Currently, User talk:Risker is handling the copy edits. The main issue in the article was prose and thats what SandyGeorgia wants to see improved.[2]Dineshkannambadi (talk) 01:25, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for your time reviewing this article and for the valuable feedback. Sincerely, BatteryIncluded (talk) 13:05, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Reviewers award

Hey Ruhrfisch, thanks so much for your little award to me, very much appreciated! I just hope you, I and the other keen PR'ers can keep on top of the backlog of blank PRs. All the best, The Rambling Man (talk) 16:12, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

photos status

Hi I looked at the Pennsylvania source for the photo you asked me about. I have to say I don't know if it is appropriate to use that photo or not, it's not entirely clear to me. Facts and arguments to consider include: Not all NRHP photos, even ones on the U.S. National Park Service website, are public domain. Those that are labelled as NPS owned, or that are labelled as haven been taken by a NPS staff person who visited the site, are clearly works of the Federal government and in the public domain. However, they also use photos labelled clearly as courtesy of some organization that owns the photo. Or the photograph is a new photo taken by a private consultant, or by a state employee, or otherwise. This photo is in the last category. The NPS website has a statement that NOT all photos are in the public domain. I am not successful right now in finding the main NPS.Gov copyright statement that I recall, but this one relating to the HABS program copyright info related to HABS pics includes this statement: "Materials created or published by the U.S. Government in collaboration with a non-U.S. Governmental individual or agency may or may not be in the public domain. Materials fitting this category may require additional background research." Photos are not accepted into HABS unless they are all fully released into the public domain, but photos can be used to support NRHP applications without them being released.

Some other Pennsylvania examples might help:

  • There isn't an accompanying set of photos available with the Joseph Priestley House's NRHP Inventory/Nomination document, but there is for the Drake Oil Museum NRHP document, its photoset is here: "Accompanying 5 photos, historic and from 1970." (PDF). (872 KiB). Note for several of its photos there is a "NRHP Property Photograph Form" which conveys that the photo is part of the NPS's Historic Sites Survey. Negative is owned by the NPS, hence it is Federal government, hence it is public domain.

In your case, the photo credit is not entirely clear. I would tend to believe the photos were taken by John Milner Associates, the "Local survey organization" on the Pennsylvania Historic Resource Survey Form. I assume they are be private consultants. Copyright of the photos could still belong to them, or it could belong to Pennsylvania, neither of which would put them into the public domain. Just submitting the photos as part of backup to the National Park Service, which even if you assume they did do that, does not put them into the public domain. So, bottomline, I do not see that these are clearly public domain, and hence I personally might not choose to use them. Certainly one could use them with little likelihood of anyone complaining though. It certainly also could be the case that Pennsylvania owns them and would freely give over use under GFDL, if asked, for all of their photographs, but I don't believe that anyone from WP:NRHP has yet approached any state department of archives and history for such permissions.

I am not a lawyer. Hope this helps though. doncram (talk) 06:41, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Lucas Carpenter

Hey, I just want to say that I am new to the whole adding articles thing. I am still getting used to to the talk feature so forgive me if I do not comment to the deletion discussion appropriately. I just want to point out that, regarding the article about Lucas Carpenter I have been editing, there is not a lot of information on the artist and therefore can not be as descriptive as other artists. He is an up and coming artist who has yet to be signed. He also does not have an official website and uses Myspace as a makeshift site. The information for this article was taken from that, hence the reference. I have been following the artist since 2000 and since he is getting popular and just completed his first cross country tour, I felt it was a good time to try to help him get his name out there. If there is anyway you could maybe offer me some ideas or pointers in anyway to keep this from getting deleted I would appreciate it. I am editing it right now and I think I made enough changes to satisfy originality. Ndrammissi (talk) 22:08 31 March 2008 (UTC)

The Black Mo plans sound good to me. I will be taking a wikibreak today. Checking in here and there but not doing much. I am looking forward to the changes. Dincher (talk) 15:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Well I couldn't stay away. I added some about Mid-State Regional Airport and the Keystone Opportunity Zone which could be articles, remain as red links or get de-linked. I have looked and looked for evidence that the airport was built by the CCC and haven't found it, but I am pretty sure it was. The CCC did build an airstrip at Cherry Springs State Park. I am finished with the article for now if you want to work on it. Have a good one. Dincher (talk) 23:57, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

My first and hopefully last economic article is up an running. Keystone Opportunity Zone. I got a C in economics in college and never bought the book. Woo-hoo! Dincher (talk) 20:02, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

I am pretty relieved that Bok finally made GA. I don't know if I will go for FA or not. Things are looking good at Black Mo aren't they and it's just a matter of time for Larrys list. Dincher (talk) 21:52, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

The plans for Black Mo sound good. It can't hurt to have more info, especially recent type history. I will take the advice on Bok and just let it be for awhile. Thanks. Dincher (talk) 23:13, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

That's a good idea. How much bigger does the KOZ need to be? I could expand it tomorrow afternoon. Dincher (talk) 23:39, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Okay, my brain is about the explode. The Keystone Opportunity Zone article is all yours. I have added what I can add. I am afraid that economic issues just aren't for me. Please improve it! Dincher (talk) 22:02, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
It's good to hear that it is okay. Are you ready to nominate them for DYK? If so you and go ahead and do it or let me know and I will. I am probably off wiki soon for the night. Dincher (talk) 00:21, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

It can't hurt to include a park pic. Signing off the for night. Dincher (talk) 00:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for "squeezing" the nom in. And good luck with the pic. Dincher (talk) 19:54, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Either hook is fine with me. Dincher (talk) 22:14, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I got some more references. Again, I am not sure how creditable they seem to be. But, they are references nevertheless. (talk) 12:17 1 April 2008 (UTC)

April Fool's Day DYK

Updated DYK query On 1 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article West Rim Trail, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Thank you for contributing 2 articles to the successful event! I enjoyed the misdirection on both of the hooks! --Royalbroil 13:22, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Congrats to you and getting two in one day! Dincher (talk) 16:28, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

Entomology requests

Wow. 10 more? I'm gonna need a rest after those... perhaps we should try to get a headstart on them assuming they'll be blank when the hit the backlog?! The Rambling Man (talk) 07:00, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, just been perusing Wikipedia:School and university projects/ENTO 431. It advocates the use of a "Conclusion" section. I'm not convinced. I know these are pseudo-academic papers which we're dealing with here, but does Wikipedia really need that type of format? Just interested in your opinion. The Rambling Man (talk) 07:53, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
I have tweaked some entomology stuff to make them more like other biology articles. Not sure how much active work is still going on with them though...Cheers, Casliber (talk · contribs) 23:55, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi

List of tributaries of Larrys Creek was fun to read, so anytime--but would you be willing to comment here? Thanks. the_ed17 12:11, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

That's fine! Thank you very much. the_ed17 18:20, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
Question...Is this and this good references (for Border Legion (Shannara))? They were from a separate site, ([3], but now that site is...well...gone, I guess. Disappeared. I dunno. --with the exception of the beginning page THE_ED17 22:42, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Peer review for LSWR N15 class article.

Thank you for your peer review, which is being considered. Some of the points you have raised have been addressed, or are in the process of being addressed. However, there are a couple of issues that I wish to clarify. I believe that there is no need to wikilink all names of the locomotives to their counterpart in Arthurian legend, as this has already been done on the List of King Arthur class locomotives page. Also connected with this, Sir Lamiel is only listed in Thomas Malory's book Le Morte d'Arthur, as Sir Lamiel of Cardiff. Other than that, very little is known.

I hope this clarifies a couple of issues, and I hope you enjoyed the article. Thank you. --Bulleid Pacific (talk) 21:39, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

I think I've just about sorted out the issues you have raised. Take another look to see if it has improved. Cheers, --Bulleid Pacific (talk) 12:49, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Missing from the GNIS

While you are asking GNIS about Lackawanna you might also want to ask about Ben Rush. I can't find it either. Dincher (talk) 00:26, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

And you might want to tell them that they have Big Spring State Park in the wrong county. here. Dincher (talk) 00:35, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Tyvm... I've dealt with all of your excellent comments. Please review my responses, esp. as I disagreed occasionally and wasn't sure on a couple of things. --Dweller (talk) 10:39, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Creek articles

Hi, I was reading though your FLC, which brought me to read the article about Larrys Creek and White Deer Hole Creek. Seeing as you found an amazing amount of information on these fairly minor creeks, do you think you could work on Wappingers Creek or give me some suggestions? I've tried working on that article with little or no good results. Thanks, Juliancolton The storm still blows... 18:22, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Wow, I've never seen those links before. They will really come in handy when I start working. I know the creek does have a fairly interesting history, mainly because of the Indian tribe called the Wappingers, so I'll probably have enough info to write in the article. Thank you for the suggestions and good links, and I'm sorry if I'm bothering you. Juliancolton The storm still blows... 13:09, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Those are also very good creek articles, but I doubt I'll be able to write that much about the Wappingers Creek. I figured it'll look closer to Moodna Creek. I believe there is a Hudson River Watershed page, but I don't know where. Right now, I'm busy with several projects, but I suspect I will be able to start on the Wappingers Creek article in the near-future. When I do, I'll let you know. Again, thanks for the suggestions. Juliancolton The storm still blows... 20:29, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, your FLC passed, so congratulations! Juliancolton Tropical Cyclone 00:21, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Ruhrfisch. It might be time for a decision about this article that you left a report about at COIN. This is not a guy who has an academic rank like full professor, so it's hard to locate him in that way. I believe that an AfD nomination should be considered, since actual reliable sources that write about him are thin. I don't believe he is a Fellow of the IEEE or any of those kind of big organizations. If you still feel like going forward with an AfD, I might be able to help collect some data. Take a look at Category:SETI and see if you think his achievements will match what is found in that group. Otherwise, the article ought to be stubbified. Most of the material written about him does appear to be self-published, though the self-published material is written in an engaging way. Let me know how you would like to proceed. EdJohnston (talk) 03:38, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

Passions

Hey, I've made tons of changes to the page Passions and although I know more work needs to be done, I think I'd appreciate another review if you have the time to at least prioritize what's left to do, I'd really like to try to get this to Good Article status. If you do go over it, adding fact tags to things you think need to be sourced would be very helpful too, since sometimes it's hard to figure out what should be when you are so familiar with the subject. Thank you. -- Dougie WII (talk) 08:39, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Not fantastically brilliant at these things but I'd be grateful if you'd close the PR. I have a few things to work on and will then go to FAC. Cheers! --Dweller (talk) 11:45, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review question

Hi, Ruhrfisch, I have a question for you. I saw that you're listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/volunteers under "Geography", but is my impression (from what you and your fellow volunteers have stated) correct in that Geography is only for places (countries, cities, towns, lands, buildings, bodies of water, etc, etc) and cannot include people? I ask because my newest endeavor, Bob Marshall (wilderness activist), was recently listed as a GA under the Geography heading -- "Geography and places good articles", to be exact. So, according to PR standards, was I correct to add it to the "Geography" category? It seems kind of out of place next to Tel Aviv and Campus of Texas A&M University; I'm also afraid it won't garner any attention. Feedback would be much appreciated! María (habla conmigo) 21:12, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Of course, I'd love to return the favor. It may have to wait until later today or tomorrow, but I'll definitely read it through and leave some comments. Take care, María (habla conmigo) 13:10, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

No. The problem is fixed. I think the extra (') thingy came along with the phonetic spelling of Shannon that I copied. Dincher (talk) 20:46, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
Yes. Go ahead and clear up the duplicate links, except for those in the lead and a second example in the main article and move the area to the lead sentence. I hadn't realized it was missing. Off to school! Dincher (talk) 11:03, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Do you think that Black Moshannon State Park is ready for FAC? If so I will try to nominate it tonight. If not, I shall wait. No need to hurry. Thanks, Dincher (talk) 23:13, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Not too thrilled (or offended) with Dank55's edit to Black Mo. It seems to cut out too much info. Your thoughts? Dincher (talk) 22:27, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I know. I am sure you noticed the pic switch. Could you move the old Mike Parker image to commons. I tried this the other night with a different file and it didn't work out quite the right way. Dincher (talk) 02:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Congrats and thanks! Dincher (talk) 21:00, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Actually there is no cause for that tag. A couple of editors who opposed the article in FAC are just trying to kick up some dust. The word feudatory and Vassal are equally applicapble, though the former is more used by historians, because of the feudal nature of ancient Indian society. The word Gangas is not plural, just refers to the Western Ganga Dynasty, so the singularity of feudatory is ok.Dineshkannambadi (talk) 01:40, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Dont worry about your unfamiliarity. The fact you took the time and made an effort is appreciated. May be another time, another article.....thanksDineshkannambadi (talk) 01:45, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the candid comments you made on this peer review. I will go over on this article once, and will seek assistance from other users. Thanks again. The first para, actually, is wrong, especially the first sentence so I will do some rewording again. =) --Efe (talk) 05:30, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for creating this article! Just the other day I was looking for it to link to in Ash Island (Oregon) and was disappointed it didn't exist. Katr67 (talk) 20:44, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Battle of Tory Island map

Thankyou, that map is brilliant. Thankyou too for putting it in the right place properly for me. All much appreciated. I may have another one for you in a month or so if you are willing? Its a bit more complicated but will hopefully eventually grace the Battle of Lissa page I've been working on. I've mocked it up on my computer but its so badly done I haven't put it on Wikipedia yet and I don't have time to improve it or the article in the next few weeks. Still, if you are interested then let me know. Many Regards.--Jackyd101 (talk) 22:19, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah, I can see about doing a peer review of Black Moshannon State Park. I'll probably have a look sometime over the weekend. --Dtbohrertalkcontribs 04:21, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review

Hi there. I have just read your comments on Wikipedia:Peer review/List of thrash metal bands/archive1 and I'm just wondering whether you can provide your thoughts on Wikipedia:Peer review/List of folk metal bands/archive1 since the latter does use the sortable table that you suggested. I would appreciate your input. Cheers. --Bardin (talk) 09:26, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Peer Review....

Hey Ruhrfisch,

Just got your message on my talk...I have been under a self-imposed lock from Wikipedia because I started a new job and was really trying to focus on it (I can end up spending WAYYYYYY to much time on Wiki)....but, I'm slowly getting back involved...because the cravings are getting too bad :) Lazulilasher (talk) 17:33, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Ok, now that I'm getting back into the swing of things...I have two points:
1.) THANKS for the Paris Metro infobox help....
2.) I'm not sure about the peer-review back log history, but it seems like it has been agreed upon. I wanted to add that I think it is a great idea. Lazulilasher (talk) 18:13, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Congrats on getting Larry's list to FL! Great work! Dincher (talk) 01:00, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello mate

Hope all is well. I will be doing some limited work around here with a new outlook. I may, however, still go weeks at a time without edits. My hope is to contribute photos in abundance and do some article work here and there. Sorry I left you hanging.IvoShandor (talk) 13:46, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

That's cool sir admin. It would be cool to see my user page return. It has been awhile though, do they keep that stuff around that long? IvoShandor (talk) 03:44, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank you.IvoShandor (talk) 04:13, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, there are probably a couple revisions of the page that I would rather not be what people see as a first impression, because of the edit summaries, you can just peruse the first few and see at least one revision with a pretty derogatory edit summary, maybe those could go away? The version I put up of my page is probably the one that would be best to keep if you think it's just better to save the one revision, as you mentioned in your note on my talk page.
I will check out peer review, it might be a great place for me to get involved considering I am not really up to writing anything at the moment. Thanks again Ruhr.IvoShandor (talk) 04:20, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks again sir. IvoShandor (talk) 10:40, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the comments on this article. I've started working on what you suggested, but I had a couple of questions. You commented on the two pictures of the Bagpiper statue, but I only see one, did I miss one? Also you mentioned "Why not just a section called Fountains, then make a subarticle on just the fountains if you want." Do you mean just cut the sub-section headings off, or spin this material into another article then briefly talk about the fountains with a Main:Fountains of Berne at the header? Johnson Creek

Oh my, yes. Any advice would be appreciated. As you have seen, your model creek articles have already had a great influence. A good model is worth a thousand words. Finetooth (talk) 03:54, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

There's absolutely no hurry on either PR or GA review. The Wikipedia tasks are essentially uncountable, and I like a lot of them and hop happily from one to another. Speaking of hopping, I've done two GA reviews, Hanford Site (now FA) and Quantock Hills since you first suggested the idea to me, and I'll plan to help out with PR too. I never sought a formal PR before yesterday, and I never looked at any of the formal reviews or sorted out how the system worked. Pete suggested the idea of a PR for Johnson Creek, and I thought it was a good idea. Finetooth (talk) 16:44, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

Can you hangle the geology issues at Black Mo? Geology is way over my head. I know about dirt and some rocks. But how they were formed? I must have been absent that day at school! Dincher (talk) 19:38, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. What resource are you going to use to expand the Indians part? I would be happy to add some more, not sure what though. Dincher (talk) 22:17, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Johnson Creek

Thank you very much for taking the time to review Johnson Creek. I see how incredibly active you are at WP:PR and elsewhere, and I don't see how you find time for everything. If I can do anything to help lighten your load, please let me know. Finetooth (talk) 04:39, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I'll add regular PR to my to-do list, and I'm always glad to help with the c/e of otherwise well-formed articles. I did a whole raft of c/e jobs via LoCE in the fall but have lately either been writing or researching or taking photographs, doing GA reviews or responding to them, or serving as a helper on projects coordinated by other editors. The tasks are endless and endlessly interesting. Finetooth (talk) 16:59, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks also for the PR comments, which will be most helpful in taking this to FAC. I'm starting on the fixes, easy ones first. I've gotten reasonably good at linear maps but have not figured out how to do areas such as drainage basins. I think I'll drop Kmusser a line, but I'm hoping to learn how to do this sort of thing myself. Finetooth (talk) 21:56, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced village?

The village of Belle Terre, New York is shown in the middle of Long Island Sound on the New York State map in its article. Appraiser has tried to fix it. Unless my browser (Firefox) is messed up, the pushpin still shows the village in the water. Maybe you can take a look and get it on land in Long Island? Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 21:21, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

After changing the upper and lower latitudes on Template:Location map USA New York it appeared in the right place. But now it seems to be wrong again. I'm not sure why.--Appraiser (talk) 22:28, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
My reply to the message you left on my talk page: Yes, I cleared cache in Firefox and even tried MS Internet Explorer 7. Both show the same thing. If you see it okay and I don't, I'll assume it's a problem with me and my browsers, or maybe my monitor resolution. It is curious though that it does the same thing for me in both browsers on two different PCs. Truthanado (talk) 23:55, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
Just a wild guess. I notice that the map image is from Wikimedia Commons. That could mean the image is on a different set of Wiki servers from the Wikipedia mainspace article and template. Maybe if we wait awhile (I'd give it a day) for all of the servers to synchronize, it might be okay. Truthanado (talk) 00:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
The problem still exists. I asked one of the guys I work with, who is currently in Taipei, Taiwan, to access the page and he sees the pushpin for the village in the middle of Long Island Sound about halfway between Long Island and Connecticut. He sent me a screen shot of what he sees (I see the same; BTW, my wife sees the same thing on her computer). If you give me an email address I can send it to you if you'd like. Truthanado (talk) 00:17, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I see it too. But I checked the northern and southern edge latitudes on Template:Location map USA New York and the coords of the town and they all seem right. I don't understand why the dot is in Long Island Sound. Do you know of any other places in NY that are wrong?--Appraiser (talk) 00:41, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
I tried to check that and found that most of the locations that use this map are in Long Island. Most look reasonable, acknowledging it's kind difficult to fit a pushpin on that narrow strip of land. Most of the other locations in New York use another map. The ones that use this map seem to be okay, although it's hard to tell sometimes since they are in teh middle of the state. Truthanado (talk) 00:53, 23 April 2008 (UTC)
Problem solved. The latitude was 10 seconds too far north in the infobox and also in the coord template in the article text. Epodunk and Google Earth helped find the error. We can sleep tonight. Truthanado (talk) 01:42, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

PR space

Thanks (as always) for doing the archiving. Are you back up to 14 days, or are you still archiving some reviews sooner?

The latest archive only brought things down to 1.8 MB, and we can't keep walking on a knife edge like this, so I've trimmed some of the template code to save another 200KB. This is really a bug in the new mediawiki preprocessor, but there is no sign of it being fixed, so we have to live with it.

It is also partly my fault for the design of the automated SAPR notices, which are expensive in terms of space because they transclude the "onlyinclude" sections of the entire months SAPRs twice per article. I did a test, and removing these saves another 250KB. Unfortunately, I can't think of another way to do it without inconveniencing you in your valuable work. I will see if Carl has any ideas. Geometry guy 15:33, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Maps

Thanks again for the tips. I love maps and certain kinds of graphs like Minard's of Napoleon's very bad no good trip to Moscow and back:Image:Minard.png. Your method sounds complicated, though not more so than necessary. I will have to give it a try. I like learning how to do new things. By the way, your suggestions on Johnson Creek have produced some interesting results. I had not given any particular thought to the political border crossings, for example, but now see that the creek meanders back and forth between counties a total of eight times. Also, it is not true that the creek crosses six political boundaries but merely five. My sources incorrectly counted a city, Happy Valley, that's in the watershed but not touched by the creek. Finetooth (talk) 02:59, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, you have probably set the record with the Laurel Ridge State Park trail description. I had to laugh as I read it. It's quite clear and well-written, and I have a pretty good idea of the amount of work it took. I'm soldiering on with Johnson Creek but postponing dealing with map questions. I added some data today about nearby watersheds, and that got me to thinking about a second watershed map that would show them all in relation to the JC watershed. Perhaps I am not crazy enough to attempt this, though. Finetooth (talk) 02:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

More Black Mo

I made the change that you suggested. Good idea. I disagreed with I think five of Awadewit's comments. I will work on rewording the cabin and trail sections to make them less like a brochure, but I feel strongly about keeping all the details. I feel like this article could become more about the history, geology, etc., of the park and less about what is actually at the park and what the visitors can actually see. Thanks about the gas. Walked again today. I am kind of sore. Dincher (talk) 20:46, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I am still laughing about the last sentence in your latest post on my talk page. All this work will give us a great headstart on the other state parks in the area if we want to boost them up to GA or FA. I never heard of this until today. Which is where Appalachian orogeny redirects too. Always learning something aren't we? Dincher (talk) 22:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I made a few changes per FAC. Dincher is tired and cranky. Walking is tiring. FAC's make him cranky. Good night. Dincher (talk) 02:46, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes. Black Mo is looking pretty good. Getting UPB or SB up to FA status would be quite the accomplishment. Do you really think it can be done? Dincher (talk) 00:46, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Agreed all the articles in the West Branch area would be pretty easy to boost up. The history of Greenwood Furnace State Park is pretty interesting, but it's out of the area and on the wrong side of the mountains. I think getting Worlds End up to FA should be the next project. I really like the idea of getting a Featured Topic which is something I hadn't heard of. And I like the idea of getting all 120 up to snuff. Might as well shoot for the moon if you're going to shoot. Off to learn about Featured Topics. Dincher (talk) 00:59, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

I like the ideas regarding the 21 must see parks. Taking a wiki break today. Dincher (talk) 20:11, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
We did it! Thanks for all the help in getting Black Mo up to FA! Dincher (talk) 23:22, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Well one week of walking to school and I am pretty much worn out. I agree. I think we should work on Worlds End Next. Thanks for the list of the must see parks. I will stash it at the groundhog. Peer review question

Is it possible to know which articles someone else is peer reviewing? I'm asking because today I reviewed National Museum of Beirut, and when I posted my review I saw that you had reviewed it too. I don't mind; I'm sure the main author was pleased, and in a way it's an entirely good thing. On the other hand, I didn't lighten your load at all, and that was part of my intention. Would it be good to coordinate the reviews? I could have done the Pokemon article, and that would be one more off the short list. Finetooth (talk) 02:56, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Those are two good ideas. Since you are doing so many more of the reviews than I, it would probably make more sense if I put a little note on any from the backlog that I decide to do. Even more sensible most of the time would be for me to pick ones that haven't made the backlog. I'll give that a try and see how it goes. Finetooth (talk) 03:43, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Map

So where are we on that map? I like the idea of using the colored dots instead, could we link them like we did for the state parks map? IvoShandor (talk) 12:17, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not sure. I think we should use the dots, like we talked about. Honestly though, I need to reread everything I wrote, see what places are mentioned and decide what's most important. Battles, obviously. I know we will want Fort Dearborn/Chicago, Galena, Dixon's Ferry (Dixon), Saukenek, and others, but I will get back to you asap. IvoShandor (talk) 22:07, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Also, I was wondering, have you ever done any kind of city maps. I ask because I am thinking that an article I am working on about a historic district in a small city could badly use a map, but I don't even know where to begin to look for free use city maps. IvoShandor (talk) 22:12, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I think I can do that, I have the map I need, now all I have to do is add a few important buildings and the boundaries. Nice. IvoShandor (talk) 22:31, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Minnesota Fats e/c

Hey Ruhr, sorry, we e/c'd again and I think you'll read this after you've done the review... perhaps we should have a rule like GA which says we've "taken" an article for review? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:41, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

What about something more direct, like adding  Doing... or something similar to the main template? Just an idea...? The Rambling Man (talk) 19:55, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
I'd suggest, therefore (he said rather dramatically), that you add it to the instruction set for the backlog page... The Rambling Man (talk) 19:58, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
Awesome work on Black Mos, great to see it make FA. Also, still pleased to see how well the PR backlog drive is going. I've been less active lately, unfortunately, so my support has waned a little, but I'll what I can when I can, as ever.... The Rambling Man (talk) 16:11, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Congrats on Black Mo, and the "doing" template at PR gets an A. Reducing an explanation to one word is awesome. This might be an idea for LoCE. Finetooth (talk) 16:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi Ruhrfisch. Thanks for your comments and tips. They are very helpful and I will try to incorporate them in the article. Maybe you can once again peer-review them after i have added the changes suggested by you. Thanks again.--Anish (talk) 18:57, 25 April 2008 (UTC)

First watershed map

Your advice was key in making this dude Image:Johnson Creek watershed map.png, and I thank you. I learned a lot in the process. The colors on my course map now look garish, and I'm planning to change them. I got the color numbers for the new map from Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Maps, having seen mention of the project page on Kmuser's talk page and the colors themselves on your maps. Oh, hey, this is fun. If you have any thoughts about improving the new map, please let me know. (But no hurry; I am as usual up to my ears in stuff.) Finetooth (talk) 03:54, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Peer review of the article: 2008 attacks on North Indians in Maharashtra

Thanks for your review. In light of of the review I have made some changes to the article. All the doubts you raised were without a doubt helpful in improving the article, however I was unable 'to get an image' and get the 'name of the person who filed the petition aginst Raj's emarks on Chatth'. Can you please have a look at the article again. Thanks. KnowledgeHegemonyPart2 (talk) 13:22, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Worlds End State Park

Well I started working on expanding Worlds End State Park. We don't have to get to this right away, but we can if you want. I am not sure if you want to work on the bridge first. So this leads me to my question. Did the Susquehannock inhabit the area? I would bet that they did? This will enable us to move some of the history from Black Mo to here. I already moved the general CCC and Lumber historys but will wait to move the general Native American history until I hear back from you. As usual many of our references are inaccessible from here at "work". Dincher (talk) 23:21, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you for taking the time to review the Dredg article. I will begin work on correcting the issues you brought up. I do have a quick question for you. There is a good bit known about a few of their early recordings, such as Conscious and Orph; however, there are few sources that Wikipedia would constitute as "reliable" based off Wikipedia:RS, as little was written about them at the time and the writing since has focused on newer material. I do not know if it is possible, but how do you inform people of the information that is known with a lack of "reliable sources"? --Ars Sycro (talk) 04:53, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Ouachita Parish

Hey Ruhrfisch, can you use your admin tools to move Ouachita Parish back to the proper name convention Ouachita Parish, Louisiana? Thanks. VerruckteDan (talk) 00:28, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Abbey Mills Mosque peer review comments

Thank you very much for your excellent suggestions; I will try to address them one-by-one as I complete the improvements. I appreciate the time and care you took to read through the article. -- Avi (talk) 03:44, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your great suggestions. I implemented or addressed each one, and I think the article is much better for them. And yes, I know, I owe WP:PR at least one Perr review . -- Avi (talk) 07:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Quite Suspicious

Here is a page with an extremely long title. Judging by the revision history, it looks like it was copied from somewhere. However, a google search didn't reveal any matches. I don't know what to do about it. Maybe you do! --Cryptic C62 · Talk 00:53, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello. Thanks for the feedback. I have replied to some of your comments, and fixed a few things. Please strike as necessary. Thanks! — Wackymacs (talk) 08:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Kersal Moor peer review

Hi, Thanks for the work you've done on the Kersal Moor article, most of which I wrote. I'm sorry I've not replied earlier but I wasn't familiar with the process and hadn't realised you'd done it. I'll try and address the points you've mentioned as soon as I can. Richerman (talk) 10:29, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Is this fun or what?

I direct your attention to an article I posted today (been working on it for a week) in order to make sure Everglades is complete, whenever it will be... Is this fun, or what? --Moni3 (talk) 18:36, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Help on peer review for unconventional warfare (US)

I'm afraid I tried to follow the procedure, but didn't get the intended result. Does it now show as complete? Howard C. Berkowitz (talk) 20:12, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Second Look at Zirconium

You left some good comments on Zirconium's peer review, but because of my then-hectic schedule, it was closed before I had a chance to address them all. I've since done some work on it regarding the source material, so would you mind taking a second look? I'd like to try to improve it as much as possible before FAN. I'm in no hurry. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 21:31, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
