Page mover granted
Hello, Eddie891. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, move subpages when moving the parent page(s), and move category pages.
Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving a redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect
is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. WikiCup 2022 November newsletter
The 2022 WikiCup has drawn to a close with the final round going down to the wire. The 2022 champion is
- Lee Vilenski (1752 points), who won in 2020 and was runner up in both 2019 and last year. In the final round he achieved 3 FAs and 15 GAs, mostly on cue sports. He was closely followed by
- Bloom6132 (1732), who specialised in "In the news" items and DYKs, and who has reached the final round of the Cup for the past three years. Next was
- BennyOnTheLoose (1238), another cue sports enthusiast, also interested in songs, followed by
- Muboshgu (1082), an "In the news" contributor, a seasoned contestant who first took part in the Cup ten years ago. Other finalists were
- Sammi Brie (930), who scored with a featured article, good articles and DYKs on TV and radio stations,
- Kavyansh.Singh (370), who created various articles on famous Americans, including an FA on Louis H. Bean, famed for his prediction of election outcomes. Next was
- PCN02WPS (292), who scored with good articles and DYKs on sporting and other topics and
- Z1720 (25) who had DYKs on various topics including historic Canadians.
During the WikiCup, contestants achieved 37 featured articles, 349 good articles, 360 featured article reviews, 683 good article reviews and 480 In the news items, so Wikipedia has benefited greatly from the activities of WikiCup competitors. Well done everyone! All those who reached the final round will receive awards and the following special awards will be made, based on high performance in particular areas of content creation and review. So that the finalists do not have an undue advantage, these prizes are awarded to the competitor who scored the highest in any particular field in a single round, or the overall leader in this field.
- Lee Vilenski wins the featured article prize, for a total of 6 FAs during the course of the competition and 3 in the final round.
- Kavyansh.Singh wins the featured list prize, for 3 FLs in round 2.
- Adam Cuerden wins the featured picture prize, for 39 FPs during the competition.
- Z1720 wins the featured article reviewer prize, for 35 FARs in round 4.
- Epicgenius wins the good article prize, for 32 GAs in round 1.
- SounderBruce wins the featured topic prize, for 4 FT articles in round 1.
- Lee Vilenski wins the good topic prize, for 34 GT articles in round 5.
- Sammi Brie wins the good article reviewer prize, for 71 GARs overall.
- Sammi Brie wins the Did you know prize, for 30 DYKs in round 3 and 106 overall.
- Bloom6132 wins the In the news prize, for 106 ITNs in round 5 and 289 overall.
Next year's competition will begin on 1 January and possible changes to the rules and scoring are being discussed on the discussion page. You are invited to sign up to take part in the contest; the WikiCup is open to all Wikipedians, both novices and experienced editors, and we hope to have a good turnout for the 2023 competition. Until then, it only remains to once again congratulate our worthy winners and finalists, and thank all participants for their involvement! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Sturmvogel 66 and Cwmhiraeth. Titling thoughts
Hi, Drmies-- can't edit your talk page because of page protection so perhaps a ping here will suffice-- and any TPS that may see this. I just created 1839 Marion riot, and I'm relatively happy with the content, but I don't think the title is completely correct-- while contemporary sources frequently described it as a riot, I'm not convinced that does it justice, but not sure what a better title would be. I don't think there's enough actual biographical info to title it 'Bill Mitchell'. Any thoughts? Eddie891 Talk Work 14:49, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- Holy moly you've done great work. Thank you. For a moment I thought it was in Marion, Alabama, and this is of course a good reminded that lynchings, or lynching attempts, were everywhere. I have some things to do right now but I'll get back to it. Thank you so much. Drmies (talk) 15:12, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
- @Drmies, no rush but I was just wondering if you had gotten a chance to return to this? Eddie891 Talk Work 17:01, 14 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie--sorry, I forgot. I read the article last week, but not the sources, and now I have. That account from the Anderson book, what a story. I agree that naming it for the person is probably not the best move here. "Trial of" would be kind of silly. Contemporaries have it as "riot", as you noted, but Harrold has it too and Hudson has nothing to suggest a change. I say go with it. God there are so many stories still to write up, aren't there. I just wrote Lynching of Orion Anderson; it just doesn't stop. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 18:58, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

- Thanks for having a look, @Drmies. It really doesn't stop. I was just reading "Bloody Caddo": White Violence against Blacks in a Louisiana Parish, 1865-1876 and it is simply horrifying.
On October 1, a band of some 75 whites from Shreveport on its way to the scene of the Bossier riot met a group of nine blacks who were taken to the bank of the Red River and told to swim for their lives. As they rose to the surface after having plunged in the river, the blacks were shot. Not one of them escaped. On the same night, thirty blacks were taken from around Shreveport, marched to the bank of the Red River, tied together with ropes and shot in the back. During the following days, a raft of swollen bodies drifted down the turbid river until the bodies were eaten by alligators. Few days later, seven blacks were chained in an old abandoned building which was then burned to the ground. On October 12, a group of whites went to the Johnson's brick-yard and took five blacks away from their work. After tying their hands, they riddled them with bullets.
It's an incredibly tough topic, encyclopedically, but that makes it even more worth tackling. Eddie891 Talk Work 22:11, 14 November 2022 (UTC)

You deleted the SPEED II article
What a waste of people's time guys like you are. Why not try to improve the article if you feel it's insufficient? SPEED II was a widely used software development back in 80s and early 90s. Trying to find info about it nowadays is very difficult. Isn't that why Wikipedia is supposed to be for? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log/delete&page=SPEED_II Brian Fenton (talk) 15:54, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Brian Fenton: The article was deleted as a result of the proposed deletion process, not because I personally felt it was insufficient. A user, in this case seemingly MrOllie, tagged the article, saying that it had
No independent sources, no assertion of notability.
All articles on Wikipedia must meet the notability guideline, meaning they have significant coverage in independent, reliable sources (such as, a profile in The New York Times or an entry in The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction). Other measures of importance, such as how widely used a software was or wasn't are hard to quantify without coverage that backs it up. Unfortunately, if coverage does not exist, an article is not merited (this is basically because we need enough verifiable content to write a substantive encyclopedic article). If you disagree with the deletion, you are welcome to request a refund, through which the article will be restored. Happy to try to explain further, if this doesn't make sense. Eddie891 Talk Work 18:55, 10 November 2022 (UTC)- This was raised on my talk page at the time of the tagging, see here. At the time Brian Fenton wrote:
Delete it if you want - I couldn't care less.
MrOllie (talk) 19:06, 10 November 2022 (UTC)- (talk page watcher) I find your hounding of people doing what they are supposed to - I this case closing a PROD case that you had every right to do something about - to be in bad taste Brian Fenton. You have to make an adequate display of something being notable and Eddie was simply closing an expired tag. If you wish to have the article moved to draft to work on, you could have just asked, rather than flounce and denounce other editors. Lee Vilenski (talk • contribs) 19:34, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- This was raised on my talk page at the time of the tagging, see here. At the time Brian Fenton wrote:
As an FYI, I've now warned Brian Fenton for engaging in personal attacks.--SouthernNights (talk) 23:59, 10 November 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry guys, I had forgotten about that reply I wrote to MrOllie - I didn't have the time or energy at that time to engage, so the article got deleted. I still think deletionists are completely in the wrong on this website, I don't know why I even bother engaging with you. You guys deleted a perfectly good article. For what? I log in to this site a few times a year to find articles I contribute to get deleted. It's so pathetic. But yeah, give me a warning for being nasty, I guess I deserve it. Brian Fenton (talk) 22:57, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
- Apologies also to Eddie. It was actually MrOllie who was the problem. I found the orginal argument I had with him here - seems he just can't get enough of removing other people's work! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:MrOllie/Archive_12#Deleting_SPEED_II%3F Funny how every time I edit here, I come to regret it. Question
Hi, several weeks ago you deleted an article at AfD. I would like to ask that you (I dunno... 'undelete' it? this is the first time I've requested this) perhaps move it to draft? I would like access to the content so that I might either improve it as an article, or re-add some of it to the page it was originally forked from. Thanks - wolf 00:06, 19 November 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Thewolfchild, I no longer hold the administrator user-right, meaning I am unable to un-delete, or for that matter delete content. I would have no objection if you were to ask another admin, if you want to. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 14:05, 19 November 2022 (UTC)

I'm curious what you think of the new information and citations I added to David Lerner in response to the article's AfD. There's a major source of info on the subject that I can't easily access and I'm wondering if I need to arrange an interlibrary loan for that book, or if what I've added is sufficient. --SouthernNights (talk) 13:53, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2022).
- Consensus has been found in an RfC to automatically place RfAs on hold after one week.
- The article creation at scale RfC has been closed.
- An RfC on the banners for the December 2022 fundraising campaign has been closed.
- A new preference named "Enable limited width mode" has been added to the Vector 2022 skin. The preference is also shown as a toggle on every page if your monitor is 1600 pixels or wider. When disabled it removes the whitespace added by Vector 2022 on the left and right of the page content. Disabling this preference has the same effect as enabling the wide-vector-2022 gadget. - The proposed decision for the 2021-22 review of the discretionary sanctions system is open.
- The arbitration case Reversal and reinstatement of Athaenara's block has been closed.
- The arbitration case Stephen has been opened and the proposed decision is expected 1 December 2022.
- A motion has modified the procedures for contacting an admin facing Level 2 desysop.
- Tech tip: A single IPv6 connection usually has access to a "subnet" of 18 quintillion IPs. Add

Pages 197-198 of Allen (1997) are available at Google Books. I cut and pasted the URL, but it comes out as "A Reader's Guide to Walt Whitman - Google Books." I don't know if that is helpful. Deleted Page
Hi, Eddie. You deleted the Goldberg Segalla page which a friend asked me to update. Can you please help me restore the page and provide me with guidance so the page has the proper disclaimers? Thank you. Bona1858 (talk) 14:30, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, @Bona1858, the page was deleted as a result of the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Goldberg Segalla, where the consensus was that the topic did not meet the notability guidelines for corporations, which requires articles to have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. If you think there are three or more sources meeting this criteria that the AfD voters did not consider, I'd be happy to consider restoring the page. Unfortunately, if that coverage does not exist there cannot be an article about the subject on WikipediaI'd also recommend reading this guide to editing with a conflict of interest before going any further. Hopefully this helps somewhat, and happy to answer any questions you may still have. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 15:02, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Eddie,
- Thank you for the prompt response. I very much appreciate it. So I understand the significant coverage in independent, reliable sources requirement: are The Buffalo News and Business Journals links not considered independent and significant?
- Kevin Bona1858 (talk) 15:43, 13 December 2022 (UTC)
- Per WP:AUD, I think the buffalo sources would fall under local coverage. Additionally, sources establishing notability should offer in-depth coverage beyond simply routine announcements and brief mentions. The corporation notability guideline specifically states that coverage of things like "the opening or closing of local branches, franchises, or shops" [1] or "the hiring, promotion, or departure of personnel,"[2] do not count as significant coverage to establish notability. If you feel there is some aspect of the sourcing that I am missing, do let me know. Many of the links in the deleted article return as 404s for me, so I can't actually read the content. The article 1839 Marion riot you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:1839 Marion riot for comments about the article, and Talk:1839 Marion riot/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of the "On This Day" column do not affect DYK eligibility. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year, Eddie891!
The other day, I was having a conversation with someone about holiday cards and social media. It occurred to me that, in the years since I left Facebook, the site I use most to communicate with people I like isn't actually a social media site at all. If you're receiving this, it's pretty likely I've talked with you more recently than I have my distant relatives and college friends on FB, at very least, and we may have even collaborated on something useful. So here's a holiday "card", Wikipedia friend. :) Hope the next couple weeks bring some fun and/or rest. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 19:41, 22 December 2022 (UTC)
Would you be able to skim through something for me?
I just wrote up Macks Creek Law, which relates to controversial stuff such as police ticketing, municipal courts, the Ferguson unrest, and a guy who's now senator-elect. Since its only truly controversial subject I've ever written on (Battle of Poison Spring kinda?), I was wondering if I could get some people to read over it. The law's periodically a big thing in Missouri. Hog Farm Talk 04:12, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter October 2022
Hello Eddie891,
Much has happened since the last newsletter over two months ago. The open letter finished with 444 signatures. The letter was sent to several dozen people at the WMF, and we have heard that it is being discussed but there has been no official reply. A related article appears in the current issue of The Signpost. If you haven't seen it, you should, including the readers' comment section.
Awards: Barnstars were given for the past several years (thanks to MPGuy2824), and we are now all caught up. The 2021 cup went to John B123 for leading with 26,525 article reviews during 2021. To encourage moderate activity, a new "Iron" level barnstar is awarded annually for reviewing 360 articles ("one-a-day"), and 100 reviews earns the "Standard" NPP barnstar. About 90 reviewers received barnstars for each of the years 2018 to 2021 (including the new awards that were given retroactively). All awards issued for every year are listed on the Awards page. Check out the new Hall of Fame also.
Software news: Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have connected with WMF developers who can review and approve patches, so they have been able to fix some bugs, and make other improvements to the Page Curation software. You can see everything that has been fixed recently here. The reviewer report has also been improved.
Suggestions:
- There is much enthusiasm over the low backlog, but remember that the "quality and depth of patrolling are more important than speed".
- Reminder: an article should not be tagged for any kind of deletion for a minimum of 15 minutes after creation and it is often appropriate to wait an hour or more. (from the NPP tutorial)
- Reviewers should focus their effort where it can do the most good, reviewing articles. Other clean-up tasks that don't require advanced permissions can be left to other editors that routinely improve articles in these ways (creating Talk Pages, specifying projects and ratings, adding categories, etc.) Let's rely on others when it makes the most sense. On the other hand, if you enjoy doing these tasks while reviewing and it keeps you engaged with NPP (or are guiding a newcomer), then by all means continue.
- This user script puts a link to the feed in your top toolbar.
Backlog:
Saving the best for last: From a July low of 8,500, the backlog climbed back to 11,000 in August and then reversed in September dropping to below 6,000 and continued falling with the October backlog drive to under 1,000, a level not seen in over four years. Keep in mind that there are 2,000 new articles every week, so the number of reviews is far higher than the backlog reduction. To keep the backlog under a thousand, we have to keep reviewing at about half the recent rate!

First Ladies memoirs
Hi Eddie. I remembered you wrote articles about First Ladies memoirs like My Memoir. I was wondering if you were interested in making articles for the ones that are currently missing at List of memoirs by first ladies of the United States: The Times of My Life (Betty Ford), Nancy: The Autobiography of America's First Lady (Nancy Reagan), Reflections: Life After the White House (Barbara Bush) and Where the Light Enters: Building a Family, Discovering Myself (Jill Biden). All four of these are currently redirects. Thanks! :) MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 00:34, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Third Onondaga County Courthouse
On 4 January 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Third Onondaga County Courthouse, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that although the third Onondaga County Courthouse was demolished in 1967, the hand-cut stones of its tower have been preserved? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Third Onondaga County Courthouse. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Third Onondaga County Courthouse), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Happy New Year...
...and thanks for continuing to work on Lincoln/Whitman. I don't know what you do for a living, but you have an academic career right there! Take care, Drmies (talk) 20:18, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Drmies, and Happy New Year to you as well! All the best for the year going forwards. I'm hoping to send Walt Whitman's lectures on Abraham Lincoln to FAC soon this year, just needs one or two more solid copyedits but I think most of the content is there. I'm actually an undergrad at Cornell University (studying history), so some of these articles align pretty well with what I do in classes. 1839 Marion riot originated as a paper from a history class, in fact, and the re-write of O Captain! My Captain! began as part of an assignment as well. Eddie891 Talk Work 22:00, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
- Oh, someone is going to be real happy to have you in class next week. But do not fool yourself into thinking that the professionals, by which I mean administrators, are going to care for this--I'm going to stop putting my Wikipedia work on my professional reports since administrators don't understand and/or don't care. Even convincing colleagues that this is worth doing is a stretch, though my historian friend across the hall gets it now. I'm working on a little something that (on his suggestion) I'm going to try and get published in the Alabama Review, and then I'll put a watered-down version on Wikipedia. Ha, more than once I've had to put a footnote in an article or presentation saying "if this looks like the Wikipedia article, it's cause I wrote that". Well, you'll be able to say that for an entire field, and good for you. Take care, Drmies (talk) 00:38, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Yes, I hold no illusions that it will look good to 'professionals'. But it's good practice and more people read it than virtually any academic journals, so it doesn't really bother me. Best wishes, Eddie891 Talk Work 16:11, 4 January 2023 (UTC)

Question from Canton Viaduct on Frederick S. Holmes (04:50, 19 January 2023)
When editing, the section titles were bold and the picture links were light green and now all formatting is gone when editing. How can the editing format be restored? --Canton Viaduct 04:50, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, Canton Viaduct, without being able to see what you have on your account, it is hard to say definitely what the cause is. I would suggest going to Special:Preferences and under the 'gadget' tab click to enable "Syntax highlighter", which might be similar to what you're looking for. You could also go to 'beta features' and click to enable the "New wikitext mode". Let me know if neither of those work. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 13:46, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
Goldberg-Segalla notability question

Would these links fall under "articles to have received significant coverage in independent, reliable sources?"
Thanks.

- Law.com doesn't seem to be selective in its coverage (instead indiscriminately covering all law firms), so I wouldn't say that that is indicative of notability. The second and fourth links you provide seem to be relatively routine coverage that does not meet the WP:CORPDEPTH threshold (if you look at the "Examples of trivial coverage" subsection, it specifically lists mentions "of the hiring, promotion, or departure of personnel," and "of the opening or closing of local branches, franchises, or shops." Particularly the fourth article barely seems to qualify as independent reporting-- nothing against Alex Wolf, but it looks like he basically just repeated everything that the company told him. The third link is an interview with an employee of the law firm, which is not independent and therefore not indicative of notability. I don't personally see those sources as being enough (the corporation notability guideline specifically asks for multiple high quality sources contributing to notability). Hello from a Cornellian
Hello! Your name caught my eye on WP:RX since you have access to the Cornell Library. I'm an alum myself and focus on Indonesia articles on Wikipedia. You might know that Kroch Library has one of the world's largest and most complete collections on Indonesian topics. I'm not sure what your situation with library access is like, but I'm wondering since I'm not anywhere near Ithaca whether I can ask you from time to time to look up hard-to-find sources that I know Cornell has. —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 06:57, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Arsonal! I didn't know that off the top of my head, but yes, please do ask me if there's anything you need. I'm on campus during the school semester, so I should be able to get to Kroch relatively quickly during those months. More than happy to send scans of stuff on request. Cool to hear there's a fellow Cornellian around. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 15:10, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- Fantastic, I appreciate that! Do you prefer a talk page message when that happens or an email? —Arsonal (talk + contribs)— 17:36, 26 January 2023 (UTC)
- @Arsonal, either works. I think I might notice a talk page message quicker and be less likely to lose track of it because I get fewer messages here than over email. But I would see notifications either place. Best wishes, Eddie891 Talk Work 18:09, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Some of my earliest work, and I think the lack of experience for me shows in the quality. Upon further inspection of Kennedy, the chapter in question is actually written by Shea, so the reliance on a single author is quite bad. I've since acquired several works that include content about Prairie Grove that could be used to fix it, but I'm busy with work and struggling with ongoing depression and post-COVID fatigue to the extent that I just don't have the energy to be able to confidently say I can resolve the issues quickly. I won't be offended at all if this goes to GAR. Just one request - if you GAR it, please leave a notice on my talk page. It might be able to attract some fixing-up attention.
Heck, 2nd and 6th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Consolidated) and 1st and 4th Missouri Infantry Regiment (Consolidated) might need to go, too. As I mature as an editor, I have started to harbor some doubts about the quality of In Deadly Earnest, and that source isn't really replaceable at either of the other works, because I don't know of any other sources that goes into a reasonable level of detail about the units' activities during that time.
Also not happy with my first GA, Battle of Wilson's Creek, as I didn't verify some of the sources to books I didn't have at the time (my current library is decent enough that I could flesh it out sometime, if it weren't for work/depression/exhaustion) and the content could use expansion in some areas. J. Johnston Pettigrew - the Pippen SCV source might need replaced, although I may be colored by experiences with the local SCV's "the South shall rise again" vibes (FWIW, the part of Missouri I'm from is a neo-Confederate hotbed, so groups like that are probably better elsewhere). The Civil War Roundtable in Springfield is great, though.
Also pinging @Peacemaker67, Harrias, and Gog the Mild: who were reviewers on some of the "early work" of mine I've noted here. I think everything else I've produced is either in excellent shape or could be brought up to snuff easily. I've been too tired to start new content work for most of the last month, and I don't see things getting better in the near future (I'm going to have a one-way 1.5 hour commute back and forth from the client site for probably almost all of next week, and a lot of the other weeks coming up ain't much better). Again, I just ask that any GARs get a notice at WT:MILHIST and my talk page; maybe somebody will show up and help me out like happened at the GAR for batted ball. Hog Farm Talk 04:40, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- Plenty of far worse GAs around the place HF! Just relax and bring it up to snuff in your own time. I would hope no-one will be rushing to GAR it when there are far lower hanging fruit. Look after yourself mate. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 05:23, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Hog Farm: Let me echo what Peacemaker67 said. Unless you feel that the articles in question are actively likely to include false information, I wouldn't worry too much about it at this juncture. GAR isn't functionally operational at the moment anyway, so taking articles there is pretty last-resort unless there are serious issues. Harrias (he/him) • talk 12:52, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- I'd just emphasize both of the above comments. Take your time to clean up the articles. Absent major glaring problems I don't think GAR is necessary. Your clear integrity in matters like this never fails to impress me, however, and reflects well on your character. In fact, this reminds me that I've been meaning to go through my early GAs; I think there are some issues worth fixing there. Thanks for all you do here, and if there's anything I can do let me know. You're one of the good ones. Be well, Eddie891 Talk Work 13:03, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- Echoing all of hte above. Chill, man.
- Oddly, I have just had a similar experience. Constantine III (Western Roman emperor) was my 18th GAN, some time before I nominated my first FAC. I always wanted to come back to it and see if it had FAC potential. Earlier this year I did. I was taken aback at how poor it was - still is, just look at it! It took me forever to dig out and then dig through some proper sources and effectively rewrite the article. It is currently going through an informal PR in a sandbox before being moved into main space, see here. I strongly suspect that the previous 17 GANs were just as whince-worthy, but I feel no great need to confirm this. It was, I think, a necessary part of "learning the trade". I believe I did learn from them, or I would not be looking back at them now with such concern. And, I suspect, similarly for you. It is part of the process; if we were not so self critical we would be worse content creators, but this can, I think, be overdone. Gog the Mild (talk) 20:24, 9 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Hog Farm: I noticed the brief link to this post on your talk page and was curious. It prompted me to add some additional references and citations and a little additional text to the article. You are correct in noting that other sources don't go into the same level of detail as Shea's entire book about the battle. But I think that the additions should suffice to show that the description of the battle in the article is accurate and not based on a single source. Donner60 (talk) 09:13, 12 February 2023 (UTC)

WikiCup 2023 March newsletter
So ends the first round of the 2023 WikiCup. Everyone with a positive score moved on to Round 2, with 54 contestants qualifying. The top scorers in Round 1 were:
- Unlimitedlead with 1205 points, a WikiCup newcomer, led the field with two featured articles on historical figures and several featured article candidate reviews.
- Epicgenius was in second place with 789 points; a seasoned WikiCup competitor he specialises in buildings and locations in New York.
- FrB.TG was in third place with 625 points, garnered from a featured article on a filmmaker which qualified for an impressive number of bonus points.
- TheJoebro64, another WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points gained from two featured articles on video games.
- Iazyges was in fifth place with 532 points, from two featured articles on classical history.
The top sixteen contestants at the end of Round 1 had all scored over 300 points; these included LunaEatsTuna, Thebiguglyalien, Sammi Brie, Trainsandotherthings, Lee Vilenski, Juxlos, Unexpectedlydian, SounderBruce, Kosack, BennyOnTheLoose and PCN02WPS. It was a high-scoring start to the competition.
These contestants, like all the others, now have to start again from scratch. The first round finished on February 26. Remember that any content promoted after that date but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Some contestants made claims before the new submissions pages were set up, and they will need to resubmit them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed.
If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023
Hello Eddie891,
- Backlog
The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.
- 2022 Awards
Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!
Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)
New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js
to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js
Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.
Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

re: On This Day for 3/23/2023
Hi Eddie! checking with you about my OTD questions. Philip Zimbardo is one of the most famous psychologists in history and will be 90 years old on March 23. Two questions: 1. Is his notability and 90th worthy of inclusion in OTD? 2. Is the existing quality of the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philip_Zimbardo good enough?
if the quality is not yet good enough, What specifically needs to be better before March 22? I know Zimbardo personally, so want to acknowledge my connection - i wont change the article myself, but have other wiki-friends who have offered to help if you can give us any list of what needs to be fixed. (sorry for typos - iPad user interface is not wikifriendly) DrMel (talk) 22:47, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @DrMel: That would be a great article to feature on the birth section of OTD, and I'd be happy to swap it in! He's definitely worth inclusion. Right now, the problem is the big orange tag at the top of the article that says "This article needs additional citations for verification." The article cannot run on the main page until that tag is resolved. Basically, every statement in the article needs to have a citation. So, scrolling through the article, you can see unsourced sentences like:
- "In February 2010, Zimbardo was a guest presenter at the Science of a Meaningful Life seminar: Goodness, Evil, and Everyday Heroism, along with Greater Good Science Center Executive Director Dacher Keltner."
- or
- "In 1971, Zimbardo accepted a tenured position as professor of psychology at Stanford University. With a government grant from the U.S. Office of Naval Research, he conducted the Stanford prison study in which male college students were selected (from an applicant pool of 75)."
- Those need to be cited to reliable sources or removed. Also, I cannot verify his birth date in the source provided for it, so that would need to be cited as well. Otherwise, I think the article could definitely be run, though there is other cleanup possible. Hopefully that is helpful-- let me know if you have any other questions! Best wishes, Eddie891 Talk Work 22:56, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

GA Review Help
Hi, I saw your username on the list of GA mentors. I just attempted my first GA review, for the Empire Theater (42nd Street), and was hoping you could look it over. I currently placed the GA review status as looking for a second opinion in the meantime. Would greatly appreciate it. Please let me know if you have the time / interest. Thanks! - Hi, @Kting97, I'd be happy to take a look. I'll leave some comments on the review. Eddie891 Talk Work 12:25, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- Actually, @Kting97, I'll leave my comments here: It seems like you have done a very good job reviewing this article. You looked at the prose, citation formatting, image layout. I honestly think that this is pretty much exactly what we want a good article review to look like. The one thing I'd suggest is to specify under sourcing if you have (and in this review it looks like you have) checked some of the sourcing to make sure it verifies what it is supposed to and that the text is not too closely paraphrased from the original. You may find one of these templates useful so you can highlight which criteria have (and haven't) been checked. I've added the review to my watchlist and will follow along as epicgenius responds, but this looks like a very well-done review, and my main advice would be to keep doing what you're doing! I have seen far worse good article reviews from far more experienced editors. Happy to answer any specific questions that may come up, now or later. Cheers, Eddie891 Talk Work 12:35, 26 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie, thank you for your kinds words, I really appreciate them, especially since I am new to reviewing. :) Noted on your suggestion, will look back at the sourcing soon. All the best! Kting97 (talk) 13:27, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Lynching of Allen Brooks
On 30 March 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lynching of Allen Brooks, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the site of the 1910 lynching of Allen Brooks was unmarked for 111 years? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lynching of Allen Brooks. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Lynching of Allen Brooks), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

- Eddie, you carried the bulk of the work here and I thank you for it. I don't know where you live, but where I live, many aspects of history are still swept under the rug or simply ignored. To illustrate what all is wrong here, our governor just used federal COVID money and money from the education budget to help build a water park (I can't even afford tickets for it) and a billion dollar prison. Anyway, thanks for all you do here. Drmies (talk) 13:30, 30 March 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, @Drmies, it was a needed article. I'm from New York, where history is generally well-regarded, though the corruption is still there-- our legislature just voted themselves a 29% pay raise making themselves the highest paid in the nation... I've got a few more highly notable articles on my immediate to-do list, but writing lynchings takes a lot out of me, so taking a bit of a break right now. Microvision Deletion
Was just wondering if you’d be able to inform Microvision Management, Staff and Investors who it was who requested/paid you to remove the Microvision page?
Thank you in advance. 2600:1006:A126:26AD:2098:522C:BBAD:2F0F (talk) 14:52, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, I can inform whomever it may concern that I have not been paid in any of the edits I do on Wikipedia. The article was deleted per the discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/MicroVision, Inc., where the consensus was that the article did not meet the notability guideline for corporations. If you feel that there are independent, in depth and reliable sources that establish notability that the discussion did not consider, please let me know and I would be more than happy to re-open it. Alternatively, you can bring your concerns to review, if you feel I am not adequately addressing them. Hopefully this helps, and don't hesitate to let me know if you have any further questions. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:58, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Before you delete something are you not supposed to have a reliable replacement source? You now have the attention of 40k sub members. Many really think the recommendation for deletion was intentional by a competitor. I think you thought you were doing the right thing by blindly following the deletion list. If you believe you're an active contributor to Wikipedia It is easy to find valid information on a company like Microvision and correct what you feel is the shortcomings of their wiki page. If you go to the company home page or r/Microvision for can find out a lot. One thing...it is not a meme stock. 73.75.69.81 (talk) 15:18, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Let's break up what is going on here, because you seem to be suffering from a number of common misconceptions, understandably enough. Please do take time to read through the below:
- No,
Before you delete something are you not supposed to have a reliable replacement source?
is a misunderstanding of Wikipedia policy. While verifiability and reliability of sources are key to writing a Wikipedia article, they are not the only factors. Wikipedia also has notability policies that determine whether a subject is notable enough for an article. Namely, the topic must have been the subject of multiple in-depth pieces of coverage. There is a higher threshold for companies, which applies to Microvision. Something being verifiable does not equal notability. - Additionally, the onus is not on the person removing content to supply a "reliable replacement source", it is on those adding the information (or wishing to re-add it)
You now have the attention of 40k sub members
OK, and ? Is this a thinly veiled threat, that the subreddit will come after me? The number of members of a subreddit is irrelevant to notability, unfortunately. Perhaps some of them can spend time reading the links I have offered to better understand how Wikipedia works. Many really think the recommendation for deletion was intentional by a competitor.
Baseless and unsubstantiated accusations of bias do not lend strength to your argument, and I'd highly advise against further implications without evidence.I think you thought you were doing the right thing by blindly following the deletion list.
I was not simply "blindly" following something -- I was assessing the consensus of the discussion, which certainly involved reading everything there. If you believe you're an active contributor to Wikipedia
this is not a subjective matter: I am an active editor, as can be easily verified in a number of placesIt is easy to find valid information on a company like Microvision and correct what you feel is the shortcomings of their wiki page
I'd suggest having a read of No amount of editing can overcome a lack of notability, which is the problem here. The shortcomings can only lead to deletion, without the question of notability being resolved. Additionally, it is not my responsibility to do such work on someone else's behalf.
- No,
- I know this is a lot, and please don't hesitate to ask if anything needs clarification. Apologies if I come off as a bit blunt, but it would be better for you to understand where the deletion is coming from than wasting your time on something that may never be successful. Best, Eddie891 Talk Work 16:11, 31 March 2023 (UTC)
- Again, if you think the arguments in the discussion did not consider or misrepresented the coverage in certain sources that do contribute to the notability of the company, please highlight those sources here, which will aid us in determining how best to move forward. I'm not saying this article is categorically non-notable, but that the way you are trying to go about getting it restored is not going to help you. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:13, 31 March 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ömer Aysan Barış
@Eddie891:, Why was Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ömer Aysan Barış relisted? The only "delete" vote was by the nominator themselves... if this were the other way around (all delete votes), surely this would not get relisted... Thanks, Das osmnezz (talk) 15:39, 16 April 2023 (UTC)
- If you read @Jogurney's comment, they seem to feel that the case for notability is not particularly strong, but indicate an intent to comment later, saying "I'll see if I can find something else." I read that as "Here's a comment, I intend to look further into this. As that was only one day before I looked at the discussion, I opted to relist to give Jogurney a chance to do so, if they wanted. Regarding Deletion of 'Akhilesh Sheshmani Dubey'
Hello,
This is to request you to undelete the article 'Akhilesh Sheshmani Dubey.' Moreover, I was monitoring the talk page as well but it did not have any discussions going on. I am asking to undelete the page as I want to work on the article in the aspects that it lacks in and do not want my edit history to be lost.
Hope you can help me out with this.

Your GA nomination of White Antelope (Cheyenne chief)
Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article White Antelope (Cheyenne chief) you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments you might have during this period. Page deletion question
Eddie891,
I have had a Wikipedia page for many years. I did not set up this page, but I did add a photo to it some time ago. Today, I was notified that it was deleted! (Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sophie Chiche).
After reading the deletion comments and doing some research, it appears that the reason for deletion is that the biography and other sections on my page were too "thin" and lacked substance. In no way was my intent for this page to be a "promo."
This topic (Wikipedia content standards and deletion) is brand new to me. I am happy to dig deeper into these standards and provide relevant content that matches Wikipedia's requirements. What is the best way to re-activate the page and make the required updates? Or is it better to start a new page entirely? Alternately, is it better to have someone else create the page?
Any help you can provide on this is greatly appreciated. Thank you. Sophiechiche (talk) 03:30, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @Sophiechiche, the main issue here is that of notability. Wikipedia requires that the topics of articles have significant coverage in multiple, independent, reliable sources. Many, in fact most, people do not meet this requirement, and as such don't have Wikipedia articles. Do you have that? Let me know which sources you feel meet this requirement. If there are enough, I'd be willing to restore this page to a draft that you could work on. The other issue was that of self-promotion, which Wikipedia is not the place for. I'd recommend reading the guide to editing with a conflict of interest. The wikipedia Women in Red project may help you with rewriting the promotion, if you are notable. Basically, it's not a great idea to, but if you intend to, you should be transparent with your editing. Happy to look over any sourcing or answer any further questions. Eddie891 Talk Work 11:39, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind and prompt response. I will read your recommendations and get back to you.
- I appreciate the integrity of your work- and do not intend to use the space to promote my business.
- I was very honored when I was informed that someone had started a page about me years ago, and will dig in the experiences of my life to see if they are notable enough to be on the platform. Thank you for your time. Take good care,
- Sophie Sophiechiche (talk) 14:29, 28 April 2023 (UTC)
WikiCup 2023 May newsletter
The second round of the 2023 WikiCup has now finished. Contestants needed to have scored 60 points to advance into round 3. Our top five scorers in round 2 all included a featured article among their submissions and each scored over 500 points. They were:
- Iazyges (1040) with three FAs on Byzantine emperors, and lots of bonus points.
- Unlimitedlead (847), with three FAs on ancient history, one GA and nine reviews.
- Epicgenius (636), a WikiCup veteran, with one FA on the New Amsterdam Theatre, four GAs and eleven DYKs
- BennyOnTheLoose (553), a seasoned competitor, with one FA on snooker, six GAs and seven reviews.
- FrB.TG (525), with one FA, a Lady Gaga song and a mass of bonus points.
Other notable performances were put in by Sammi Brie, Thebiguglyalien, MyCatIsAChonk, PCN02WPS, and AirshipJungleman29.
So far contestants have achieved thirteen featured articles between them, one being a joint effort, and forty-nine good articles. The judges are pleased with the thorough reviews that are being performed, and have hardly had to reject any. As we enter the third round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them.
If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Your GA nomination of White Antelope (Cheyenne chief)
The article White Antelope (Cheyenne chief) you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:White Antelope (Cheyenne chief) for comments about the article, and Talk:White Antelope (Cheyenne chief)/GA1 for the nomination. Discontent Content Issue 7
Welcome, subscribers, to the seventh Discontent Content newsletter! Discontent Content is a newsletter aiming to collate and improve Wikipedia articles in need of more eyes and hands to get them in shape. Its unique trimodal structure allows editors to work where they feel comfortable -- with stubs and starts needing to be brought to standard, mid-quality articles with Good or Featured potential, or quality-assessed articles needing help to maintain their status. Articles in this category are those that need to be brought up to a minimum quality standard. Some will be stubs; others will be longer articles that nonetheless have significant concerns putting them far below B- or C-class adequacy. This issue's Category 1 articles are:
Articles in this category, while in better current shape than Category 1, are still missing something. They have the potential to be truly high-quality content, and may have been at one point. With work, they can be brought up to dizzying heights. This issue's Category 2 articles are:
Articles in this category have been assessed through a content review process in the past, but may require work to be brought up to current GA/FA standard. Editors can help bring them to a level where the star or plus near their names can once again shine. This issue's Category 3 articles are:
I LIVE. Hi, guys. Great to see you. I felt like doing this again. Will I do more? Let's find out. I hope you're all well, you beautiful people. |

- Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

The winners of the 2023 The Core Contest are announced 🎉. We had an amazing set of improvements this year, and the judges (Femke, Aza24 and Casliber) would like to thank everybody who joined and congratulate the winners.
- First place goes to Buidhe for improving The Holocaust; very core, highly relevant; their work on bringing geographical balance to the article puts the topic in a whole different light. We also commend improvements to sourcing and prose
- A close second place goes to Phlsph7 for improving Education from an unstructured jumble into a well-sourced piece of instruction
- Third prize goes to Johnbod for improving Donatello, a near five-fold expansion with great sourcing and fantastic imagery
- A tie for fourth place goes to Thebiguglyalien for improving Crime, for a strong improvement in sourcing
- A tie for fifth place goes to Sammielh for International law, improved by converting contextless listicles into a proper sourced prose

DYK for White Antelope (Cheyenne chief)
On 26 June 2023, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article White Antelope (Cheyenne chief), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the song supposedly sung by Cheyenne chief White Antelope as he died at the Sand Creek massacre has been used at remembrances commemorating the event? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/White Antelope (Cheyenne chief). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, White Antelope (Cheyenne chief)), and the hook may be added to the statistics page after its run on the Main Page has completed. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election have opened. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next coordination year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting will commence on 15 September. Question from Feyquin (16:46, 19 September 2023)
Hi, I've noticed you have been assigned as my mentor, so I wanted to ask if you could review my first edit. Is it appropriate and are there things I could have done better? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategies_for_engineered_negligible_senescence Thanks! --Feyquin (talk) 16:46, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, @Feyquin, I'm not familiar with the theory, but I'd say you need to supply a more independent source than you currently use to suggest that SENS is no longer a fringe idea. Your current source website advocates heavily for SENS and seems to have ties to a/several foundations that do work relating to the therapies, and can't be considered independent information. Women in Green GA Editathon October 2023 - Around the World in 31 Days
Hello Eddie891:
WikiProject Women in Green is holding a month-long Good Article Edit-a-thon event in October 2023!
Running from October 1 to 31, 2023, WikiProject Women in Green (WiG) is hosting a Good Article (GA) edit-a-thon event with the theme Around the World in 31 Days! All experience levels welcome. Never worked on a GA project before? We'll teach you how to get started. Or maybe you're an old hand at GAs – we'd love to have you involved! Participants are invited to work on nominating and/or reviewing GA submissions related to women and women's works (e.g., books, films) during the event period. We hope to collectively cover article subjects from at least 31 countries (or broader international articles) by month's end. GA resources and one-on-one support will be provided by experienced GA editors, and participants will have the opportunity to earn a special WiG barnstar for their efforts.
We hope to see you there!

New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Eddie891,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.
Reminders:
- You can access live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
- Consider adding the project discussion page to your watchlist.

Admin Access for James Naleski
I was looking to create a page for James Naleski, but it seems to require admin access. How would you suggest I go about obtaining this? JoeK2033 (talk) 14:30, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, @JoeK2033, creation of the page has been restricted because the article was repeatedly recreated after being deleted for not meeting wikipedia's notability guidelines, specifically those for musicians. First you have to consider, has the situation changed? Has this figure received substantial coverage in reliable sources? Then, you should make a case (probably here first) that this is the case, and an administrator may remove the requirement, which would allow others to create the article. I'd suggest reading the following information on removing 'salting' of article creation: Editors wishing to re-create a salted title with appropriate content should either contact an administrator (preferably the protecting administrator), file a request at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection § Current requests for reduction in protection level, or use the deletion review process. To make a convincing case for re-creation, it is helpful to show a draft version of the intended article when filing a request. Happy to discuss further if you have other/similar questions. Eddie891 Talk Work 14:55, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
- I wonder why the page was categorized under musicians. He is primarily an artist who is involved in government. Here is what I have found. Would it support the notability guidelines for a page stub? Thank you for your expert advice.

- This source alone would not, as it is a press release and not independent coverage... Eddie891 Talk Work 20:54, 26 September 2023 (UTC)

Question from Ajaber333 (21:56, 28 September 2023)
Hello! I created this account because the professor I research for has asked me to create a wikipedia page for him. How do I go about doing that? I essentially want to plug in his CV and he can give me more information after. --Ajaber333 (talk) 21:56, 28 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, @Ajaber333. First of all, it's not a great idea to write the article of someone you know, *especially* if they have asked you to do it-- have a read of our conflict of interest guidelines, and consider that if your professor is notable enough for an article (specifically, if they meet the notability guidelines for professors), sooner or later someone will create it.
- If you still want to create the article, you first need to make sure that this figure meets a notability guideline (which I've linked above). For professors, we have the following criteria that can be indicative of notability:
- The person's research has had a significant impact in their scholarly discipline, broadly construed, as demonstrated by independent reliable sources.
- The person has received a highly prestigious academic award or honor at a national or international level.
- The person has been an elected member of a highly selective and prestigious scholarly society or association (e.g., a National Academy of Sciences or the Royal Society) or a fellow of a major scholarly society which reserves fellow status as a highly selective honor (e.g., Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers or Honorary Fellow of the Institute of Physics).
- The person's academic work has made a significant impact in the area of higher education, affecting a substantial number of academic institutions.
- The person has held a named chair appointment or distinguished professor appointment at a major institution of higher education and research, or an equivalent position in countries where named chairs are uncommon.
- The person has held a highest-level elected or appointed administrative post at a major academic institution or major academic society.
- The person has had a substantial impact outside academia in their academic capacity.
- The person has been the head or chief editor of a major, well-established academic journal in their subject area.
- Does this professor meet any of these?
- \
- Also, I wouldn't recommend just plugging in a professor's CV to their wikipedia article, but if you wanted to create an article, you could definitely use that as a source. You should look for other reliable sources that offer substantive coverage of the professor and/or their work. For information on the fundamentals of article writing, I would have a read of this page, and you can also look at articles of similar professors for ideas. Does that help a bit?
