Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:17, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

This Seytx is blatantly attacking me talk) this person only created wiki account 10 days ago...can you believe it?

Stop your disruptive flagging then. Why are you attacking an independent media for no reason when there are hundreds of wikipedia pages on other medias? Using such threatening tactics is against Wikipedia's policy too.

@Azkord: It goes aganist the wikipedoa policy. Withpout reason nothing can be done on wikipedia and i strongly think you're sockpuppet of @Ozar77 i will report for investigations. SeytX (talk)

Yeah what about you? whose sockuppet are you? Do some other work man.

@Azkord: Please don't spam. we have not done anything wrong but you're going aganist wikipedia policy. SeytX (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 19:40, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

You are attacking an independent media and yet you say you have done nothing wrong. You are abusing Wikipedia's power that has been given to you. You could have supported an independent media but instead you go the other way round. Well. Check all the articles republished/cited by int'l organizations of Kathmandu Tribune and yet you are not looking at that.

Speedy deletion declined: Syoziro Asahina

Hello Azkord. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Syoziro Asahina, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: according to de-wiki, he has ten species named after him, which is a pretty substantial claim of significance. Thank you. SoWhy 16:41, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @SoWhy: I tagged Csd when page has not enough contents but now there are more contents. Azkord (talk) 16:43, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
Before tagging a page for deletion, always check whether the subject might be viable to include by clicking on "What links here" and any interwiki links to other Wikipedias or Wikimedia projects. If a subject has a page on another language, especially a major Wikipedia like German or Japanese, chances are often that the subject is sufficiently significant to avoid speedy deletion. Also, it usually helps to do a quick Google search before tagging if you are unfamiliar with the subject's area. Last but not least while it's not strictly required, if someone is still working on the article, give them a few minutes before tagging. Regards SoWhy 16:51, 12 December 2018 (UTC)

Email

Hi Azkord. I don't respond to most emails from WP, instead preferring to have discussions on talk pages. I took a look at your draft, and it's going to be difficult to get it moved to mainspace, since it was deleted as per an AfD discussion earlier this year. The HuffPo article appears to be the only nice sourcing (although I admit I can't read the Nepalese pieces). Plus the HuffPo piece was available during the AfD discussion, so the reviewers should have seen that. In my opinion get rid of all the dicey sources and the information they source (like youtube). Interviews are primary sources and therefore don't go toward notability, and have very limited use. I'd also get rid of any "awards", if those awards don't have their own Wikipedia page. The billboardmusic.com piece is a press release, so that should go, along with any info it cites. Right now, I think this may be a case of WP:TOOSOON. His song "Bang Bang" puts him on the map. If he has another like that, and gets similar press from national sources (independent and reliable), then that would definitely put him over the notability edge, imho. Onel5969 TT me 14:46, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @Onel5969: Nepali awards doesn't have wikipedia pages and the sources two english news sources from Kathmandu Tribune [4][5] are also reliable sources cause kathmandu tribune has its own wikipedia page and it also includes that he has released three albums and three album released till now is not WP:TOOSOON. Now about the nepali languages article where Tahakhabar has mentioned that he has won one national poem competition award and nominated for os nepal music award [6] as tahakhabar is national newspaper and other national news like national broadcasting television news ABC Television (Nepal) has also mentioned about his album releases [7], bigulnews has also mentioned about the same things where they have taken interview with him [8], Nagarik (daily) News reporter has also featured him [9] and being aappeared on one of the oldest government television Nepal Television and Kantipur FM shows the article is notable enough to get into mainspace as per WP:MUSICBIO. And you've already mentioned about the huffpost. And all of the above Nepali press are national independent and reliable sources where many of them have there own wikipedia page which i've mentioned there.Azkord (talk) 15:03, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Rollback granted

Hi Azkord. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Nakon 05:45, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Huggle

Hi, I've noticed that when you revert edits using Huggle, edit summaries such as (Reverted edits by XXX (HG) (3.4.4)) are not provided. I had the same issue when I first started using the Huggle programme. Please see the section titled 'Huggle' on my talk page by Abelmoschus Esculentus on how to fix the issue. Thanks JACKINTHEBOXTALK 10:03, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

  • @JackintheBox: Thankyou for your helpful information and yes i just started to using huggle. I checked huggle section. so, should i have to remove those three ?

default-summary: "" rollback-summary: "" rollback-summary-unknown: "" Regards, Azkord (talk) 10:12, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Yes, that is what I did as well and it automatically started providing me with edit summaries such as above when I used Huggle. JACKINTHEBOXTALK 10:13, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
  • @JackintheBox: well i did that and another one thing i need to ask that after logging in to huggle i didn't found any option to logout and each time while i exit huggle it automatically updates on the user configuration page. Is there any problem with it or can you explain me about that? regards, Azkord (talk) 10:18, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
What I do everytime I've finished using Huggle is simply press "Command+Q" to quit Huggle, or go to the top left hand corner of the screen, press Huggle then click 'Quit Huggle'. I don't know what Huggle does when it updates my (or your) user configuration page, but it doesn't affect my use of Huggle. Maybe ask someone who is more experienced in Huggle about that. Regards JACKINTHEBOXTALK 10:24, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
After looking back at my contributions, I think Huggle only updates the user's configuration page after the user has used Huggle for the first time. JACKINTHEBOXTALK 10:27, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Ok i've asked Nakon and i've removed that let me check now about the edit summaries issue. Azkord (talk) 10:35, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
Yay – it works! JACKINTHEBOXTALK 11:32, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
By the way, if you hadn't known already, when replying to an above message on a talk page, you would add a colon before your text to indent your message; someone else replying your message would place one more colon before their text to indent their message a bit more. If the indention gets too deep, then you could place {{od}} before your message to outdent it. Cheers JACKINTHEBOXTALK 11:32, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. Regrads, Azkord (talk) 12:00, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Hey there, I think you were too rapid in tagging this with A1. 4 minutes are really too quick when the article creator is new. Regards. Hitro talk 20:05, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Actually i waited i wasn't rapid at all but i don't mean to be so quick but my mistake will look after it from next time. Regards, Azkord (talk) 20:16, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
That was very rapid. Four minutes is way too soon after an article creator's latest edit to judge an article to be covered by WP:CSD A1, WP:CSD A3, and probably a couple of other criteria, depending on what's already been written in the current or a previous version, such as WP:CSD A7 and WP:CSD G7. Authors, especially newcomers, can be reasonably expected to ease into the creation of a new article, and that's OK. Ten minutes is the very least, and, in my opinion, even that's a bit unfair. There's no merit to rushing someone like that. See WP:BITE and also footnote #7 from WP:CSD. Largoplazo (alk) 20:33, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
@Largoplazo: Noted & will wait atleast 10 minutes or leave article without tagging any deletion from next time. Regards, Azkord (talk) 20:57, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ravi Oad requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Recent GA nominations

Azkord, I have noticed that you have been editing with great enthusiasm this month; welcome back to Wikipedia. You recently nominated nine articles to be Good Articles on 24 December:

As best I can determine, you had not made significant edits to any of these articles prior to nominating them, yet you did not consult the major editors of the articles to see whether they believed they were ready. This is a requirement when nominating an article out of the blue: according to the Good Article nomination instructions, Nominators who are not significant contributors to the article should consult regular editors of the article on the article talk page prior to a nomination.

More important, however, is that these articles do not appear to meet the Good Article criteria. The Mahendra of Nepal nomination was reverted by an experienced Wikipedian (and bureaucrat) Wizardman a couple of hours after you made it with the edit summary drive-by nomination, needs a lot of work yet ("drive-by" is a shorthand for nominators who have not worked on the article). Having looked at the article, I have to agree: the lead does not summarize the body of the article (the second lead paragraph isn't even about Mahendra), there is problematic phrasing and other grammatical issues, and there are clear verifiability issues.

The same is true of the other articles you nominated—it seems clear that you don't understand how the criteria work in terms of whether an article meets them or not, and all nominated articles should meet the criteria or come very, very close—which is why I'm reverting all but the first of them as well. For example, Girija Prasad Koirala has problematic prose, missing punctuation, an unaddressed "citation needed" template, and several bare URLs.

The first nomination, Shrinkhala Khatiwada, is problematic in another way: you nominated it after making some minor edits to it, but then you opened a review for it, and a few minutes later cancelled the review with the comment withdraw my review let other experience user review. No nominator is ever allowed to review their own nomination. I've looked at the article and I think the sourcing needs to be improved; I'm also not sure whether the coverage of her accomplishments is sufficient and a winner of a country's beauty pageant is sufficiently notable, but I'll hold off reverting the nomination and leave that to the eventual reviewer, provided that you do consult with the article's regular editors on the article's talk page as to whether they believe the article is ready to be nominated. (If not, then the nomination should be withdrawn.)

I'm sorry this probably isn't what you were hoping for, but while I understand your enthusiasm, I think you went a bit far here without understanding just what a Good Article needs to be and what a nomination entails. Best of luck going forward. BlueMoonset (talk) 20:01, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

BlueMoonset Yeah sorry for those troubles, i wasn't aware of those GA's criterias. I thought it's like submitting an Draft article. I'll remember your words and and follow them while nominating GA article in future. Thankyou! Regards, AD Talk 14:54, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

I guess you might used the wrong number for CSD in terms of Nitin_Jain.Did you want to use CSD G11 instead ? --94rain (talk) 03:37, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

94rain It was an appropriate csd tag as article is already there in Draft [15]. So, according to csd g13 i tagged it. Regrads, AD Talk 05:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
Azkord, you are wrong. Please read WP:CSD and WP:G13 before making any more nominations.122.163.55.194 (talk) 11:35, 30 December 2018 (UTC)
My intention is not to harm anyone here. Page was created before and it was moved into Draft space by one of the wikipedian. Again it was created yesterday and the content were same. Anyway article on namespace seems fine now so you can request to delete draft or request histmerge. Regards, AD Talk 11:50, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – January 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (December 2018).

Guideline and policy news

  1. G14 (new): Disambiguation pages that disambiguate only zero or one existing pages are now covered under the new G14 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-disambig}}; the text is unchanged and candidates may be found in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion as unnecessary disambiguation pages.
  2. R4 (new): Redirects in the file namespace (and no file links) that have the same name as a file or redirect at Commons are now covered under the new R4 criterion (discussion). This is {{db-redircom}}; the text is unchanged.
  3. G13 (expanded): Userspace drafts containing only the default Article Wizard text are now covered under G13 along with other drafts (discussion). Such blank drafts are now eligible after six months rather than one year, and taggers continue to use {{db-blankdraft}}.

Technical news

  • Starting on December 13, the Wikimedia Foundation security team implemented new password policy and requirements. Privileged accounts (administrators, bureaucrats, checkusers, oversighters, interface administrators, bots, edit filter managers/helpers, template editors, et al.) must have a password at least 10 characters in length. All accounts must have a password:
  1. At least 8 characters in length
  2. Not in the 100,000 most popular passwords (defined by the Password Blacklist library)
  3. Different from their username
User accounts not meeting these requirements will be prompted to update their password accordingly. More information is available on MediaWiki.org.
  • Blocked administrators may now block the administrator that blocked them. This was done to mitigate the possibility that a compromised administrator account would block all other active administrators, complementing the removal of the ability to unblock oneself outside of self-imposed blocks. A request for comment is currently in progress to determine whether the blocking policy should be updated regarding this change.
  • {{Copyvio-revdel}} now has a link to open the history with the RevDel checkboxes already filled in.

Arbitration

Good evening, Azkord. I attempted to remove information from the page 341st Missile Wing LGM-30 Minuteman Missile Launch Sites because it contains the detailed locations of nuclear weapons. It is irresponsible and dangerous to publish such information publicly on Wikipedia.

Good evening and i got you but before removing huge information please discuss on its talk page. Regards, AD Talk 07:10, 5 January 2019 (UTC)

New page reviewer granted

Hi Azkord. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Minor user rights can now be accorded on a time limited or probationary period, so do check back at WP:PERM/NPR in case this concerns your application. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encylopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance. so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion.  ~~Swarm~~  {talk}  12:50, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Swarm Thankyou. Regards, AD Talk 13:45, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer granted

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

Hi

Hi Azkord,

Thanks for the message about the virtue signalling page.

The changes I made on the virtue signalling page were only minor relative to what needs doing on the page, and I think are essential for the (temporary) sake of the page to at least not be providing verifiably false and misleading information.

On my changes to the introduction: The expression 'virtue signalling' was not first used in 'signalling theory', as the entry states, and there are many uses which predate this, as per the talk notes. It is also disingenuous to say that it is a term used in 'Signalling Theory' (which links to a Wiki page on this part of evolutionary theory), when the only such usage in relation to signalling theory is from two papers by the same author who is not a signal theorist, but rather a theologian using it to describe religious signalling. Further to that he only uses the expression twice and it is quite clear it is a quite different notion he is referring to. The third introductory sentence is also extremely controversial, at times nonsensical, and also ambiguous. Firstly, it assumes the position of the person using the term 'virtue signalling' by claiming it is a "tactic". Secondly, it claims this "tactic" can be used for goals such as "social justice activism" (this makes little sense, "activism" isn't properly described as a "goal"). Finally, in this second part of the third sentence it conflates the popular usage and academic usage without reason for doing so. As such as it stands it is an incredibly low-quality entry, the type of which I'd expect of Urban Dictionary, not Wikipedia. As this Wiki definition is returned as a first answer when searching the term on Google I think it is of extremely high importance that it is not giving false information. My change is indisputably far more accurate as it acknowledges the simple facts that that it has popular usage as a pejorative, as well as acknowledging there have been examples of academic usage. We should not be conflating these two usages without good reason or evidence. As the page reads currently it seems as if an academic concept has been applied to popular discourse, when in fact there is no evidence that this is the case.

What makes this highly inaccurate intro seem even more accurate is having a first section entitled 'In signalling theory'. Again this is not an expression barely even marginal, never mind popular, in signal theory. This section it is also nefariously false in claiming the LessWrong blog applies the academic theory to non-academic discussion. A read of the LessWrong pages make it clear that they do absolutely no such thing (this isn't even debatable, it simply doesn't reference any academic work on virtue signalling, which again is evidence this page seems devised to give academic credence to the term, when not a single such link exists beyond coincidence. Which is far below the standard we should expect.

My talk discussion is about the longer-term need to rethink the whole page and so I await responses on how we go about doing that.

I am going to change it back to my edit because I think it highly important to do so as a matter of integrity. If you can give me good reasons as to why we should leave these inaccuracies in, or why, in fact, it is not actually inaccurate, I would be very happy to hear them.

Best wishes,

PJ

what i know is you can't remove huge information from the page as you have already started discussion on it's talk page. So, wait for other user to confirm it. Till than please don't remove any content from the page. Regards, AD Talk 10:25, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi. All I removed was the misrepresented source, and then made edits to make the page neutral. A discussion proposing these very changes was started by Zed on 22 October 2018. There have been no replies so how long do we wait? The page is highly misleading and at times plain false. I think it is incumbent to make this edit to put it in line with Wikipedia's pillars see "All encyclopedic content on Wikipedia must be written from a neutral point of view (NPOV), which means representing fairly, proportionately, and, as far as possible, without editorial bias, all of the significant views that have been published by reliable sources on a topic." and "Wikipedia has no "opinion" of its own; it just accurately summarizes reliable sources."

As it stands it inaccurately represents sources, gives disproportionate weight to a single source, and there is a clear editorial bias as it currently stands. The sources I removed are verifiably misrepresented. Best wishes, Pjconnolly123 (talk) 10:42, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

“Football” vs “American football”

Thank you for updating things like “short description” in articles, this is work that often goes unappreciated. I did want to point out that in some cases, such as Roy B. Robertson, you’ve been using a short description of “American footballer” (which would be an Association football or soccer player) when the articles are actually about “American football” (aka “gridiron football”) coaches. The terms can be confusing, but “footballer” isn’t a term used in American/gridiron football. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 23:51, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

Rikster2 thanks for pointing out but the author who created the page has written that he is american football player and coach (in such case "American footballer" make sense) by thinking that i added short description as american footballer. As you are talking about "gridiron" i didn't saw such word. Anyway thanks for pointing out will take care of it in future. Regards, AD Talk 06:25, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
But “American football” is the sport, just as “Australian rules football” would be a sport (“gridiron football” is just a synonym for the sport name). “Footballer” is not a term used with the sport of American football ever, it’s a term used in what we call soccer here. So, no, footballer wouldn’t be an appropriate short description for this or similar articles. The term footballer essentially doesn’t exist in American English. A short description for what you’d call a footballer from England or Brazil would be called an “American soccer player” Rikster2 (talk) 11:30, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Sorry to say but we are not discussing here about england or brazil and for your kind information footballer from Brazil is called Brazilian not american [20]. AD Talk 11:41, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Of course not. My point is that the same person called “footballer” in England or Brazil is a “soccer player” in American English. Sorry I did not phrase that well. The English short description should match the nationality of the subject of the article, just like dateformats are different by nationality. There is no such thing as an American footballer in the United States. That’s an American soccer player (or Brazilian soccer player from Brazil, etc.). Calling an American/gridiron football player or coach a “footballer” is confusing to the reader. In the US, that would just be called a “football player” or “football coach” Rikster2 (talk) 12:18, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
Rikster2 Got you thanks. AD Talk 14:32, 11 January 2019 (UTC)

Guideline and policy news

  • A request for comment is currently open to reevaluate the activity requirements for administrators.
  • Administrators who are blocked have the technical ability to block the administrator who blocked their own account. A recent request for comment has amended the blocking policy to clarify that this ability should only be used in exceptional circumstances, such as account compromises, where there is a clear and immediate need.
  • A request for comment closed with a consensus in favor of deprecating The Sun as a permissible reference, and creating an edit filter to warn users who attempt to cite it.

Technical news

  • A discussion regarding an overhaul of the format and appearance of Wikipedia:Requests for page protection is in progress (permalink). The proposed changes will make it easier to create requests for those who are not using Twinkle. The workflow for administrators at this venue will largely be unchanged. Additionally, there are plans to archive requests similar to how it is done at WP:PERM, where historical records are kept so that prior requests can more easily be searched for.

Nomination of Dillon Kivo for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Dillon Kivo is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dillon Kivo until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. DS (talk) 17:10, 10 March 2019 (UTC)

Editing with a conflict of interest

I'll ask you directly: Are you associated with Dillon Kivo, and if so, how? I assume you are aware that paid editors need to disclose their affiliation, and the timing regarding that article, as well as your knowledge of Dillon Kivo, is uncanny. For example, you mentioned that you googled him. That's not where the information in the article comes from. Both in the article and in the AfD discussion you mentioned the National Honor Society. That's not in the source you mentioned in the AfD discussion, it's not sourced in the article, and Google is ... not helpful. So if we assume you didn't make that up entirely, the conclusion is that you have insider knowledge. Huon (talk) 12:01, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

Huon I am not engaged as a paid editor in this article. If i would done so i am aware of disclose policy. I started his article as an stub as i found him on Wikipedia Weekly facebook group seeking help for wiki and started the article through his news links like (Forbes, Chicago Tribune, Inc ) etc. but the thing is i was not aware of contributor article on wikipedia doesn't help in notability. While the page got afd after that i googled his name so, i can got more news link and i added which i got. I donot disagree on your conclusion but its not an paid aticle. AD Talk 12:56, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
And how did you arrive at the National Honor Society? Huon (talk) 12:57, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
I always used to ask or search if they have won any awards cause that's the one thing which claims notability according to WP:BIO. And not only award i asked his DOB and Birthplace too. AD Talk 13:01, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
See WP:V. That's no way to write a Wikipedia article. Huon (talk) 13:28, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

  • Two elements of CSD G6 have been split into their own criteria: R4 for redirects in the "File:" namespace with the same name as a file or redirect at Wikimedia Commons (Discussion), and G14 for disambiguation pages which disambiguate zero pages, or have "(disambiguation)" in the title but disambiguate a single page (Discussion).
  • {{db-blankdraft}} was merged into G13 (Discussion)
  • A discussion recently closed with no consensus on whether to create a subject-specific notability guideline for theatrical plays.
  • There is an ongoing discussion on a proposal to create subject-specific notability guidelines for chemicals and organism taxa.
Reminders
  • NPR is not a binary keep / delete process. In many cases a redirect may be appropriate. The deletion policy and its associated guideline clearly emphasise that not all unsuitable articles must be deleted. Redirects are not contentious. See a classic example of the templates to use. More templates are listed at the R template index. Reviewers who are not aware, do please take this into consideration before PROD, CSD, and especially AfD because not even all admins are aware of such policies, and many NAC do not have a full knowledge of them.
NPP Tools Report
  • Superlinks – allows you to check an article's history, logs, talk page, NPP flowchart (on unpatrolled pages) and more without navigating away from the article itself.
  • copyvio-check – automatically checks the copyvio percentage of new pages in the background and displays this info with a link to the report in the 'info' panel of the Page curation toolbar.
  • The NPP flowchart now has clickable hyperlinks.

Arbitration

  • In response to the continuing compromise of administrator accounts, the Arbitration Committee passed a motion amending the procedures for return of permissions (diff). In such cases, the committee will review all available information to determine whether the administrator followed "appropriate personal security practices" before restoring permissions; administrators found failing to have adequately done so will not be resysopped automatically. All current administrators have been notified of this change.
  • Following a formal ratification process, the arbitration policy has been amended (diff). Specifically, the two-thirds majority required to remove or suspend an arbitrator now excludes (1) the arbitrator facing suspension or removal, and (2) any inactive arbitrator who does not respond within 30 days to attempts to solicit their feedback on the resolution through all known methods of communication.

NPR Newsletter No.18

Hello DIVINE,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:

  • Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
  • Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
Reliable Sources for NPP

Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.

Backlog drive coming soon

Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.

Guideline and policy news

  • An RfC seeks to clarify whether WP:OUTING should include information on just the English Wikipedia or any Wikimedia project.
  • An RfC on WT:RfA concluded that Requests for adminship and bureaucratship are discussions seeking to build consensus.
  • An RfC proposal to make the templates for discussion (TfD) process more like the requested moves (RM) process, i.e. "as a clearinghouse of template discussions", was closed as successful.

Technical news

  • The CSD feature of Twinkle now allows admins to notify page creators of deletion if the page had not been tagged. The default behavior matches that of tagging notifications, and replaces the ability to open the user talk page upon deletion. You can customize which criteria receive notifications in your Twinkle preferences: look for Notify page creator when deleting under these criteria.
  • Twinkle's d-batch (batch delete) feature now supports deleting subpages (and related redirects and talk pages) of each page. The pages will be listed first but use with caution! The und-batch (batch undelete) option can now also restore talk pages.

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019

Hello DIVINE,

WMF at work on NPP Improvements

More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.

QUALITY of REVIEWING

Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.

Backlog

The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.

Move to draft

NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.

Notifying users

Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.

PERM

Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.

Other news

School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.

Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.

  • Following a research project on masking IP addresses, the Foundation is starting a new project to improve the privacy of IP editors. The result of this project may significantly change administrative and counter-vandalism workflows. The project is in the very early stages of discussions and there is no concrete plan yet. Admins and the broader community are encouraged to leave feedback on the talk page.
  • The new page reviewer right is bundled with the admin tool set. Many admins regularly help out at Special:NewPagesFeed, but they may not be aware of improvements, changes, and new tools for the Curation system. Stay up to date by subscribing here to the NPP newsletter that appears every two months, and/or putting the reviewers' talk page on your watchlist.

Since the introduction of temporary user rights, it is becoming more usual to accord the New Page Reviewer right on a probationary period of 3 to 6 months in the first instance. This avoids rights removal for inactivity at a later stage and enables a review of their work before according the right on a permanent basis.

  • Editors using the mobile website on Wikipedia can opt-in to new advanced features via your settings page. This will give access to more interface links, special pages, and tools.
  • The advanced version of the edit review pages (recent changes, watchlist, and related changes) now includes two new filters. These filters are for "All contents" and "All discussions". They will filter the view to just those namespaces.

New Page Review newsletter September-October 2019

Hello DIVINE,

Backlog

Instead of reaching a magic 300 as it once did last year, the backlog approaching 6,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Coordinator

A proposal is taking place here to confirm a nominated user as Coordinator of NPR.

This month's refresher course

Why I Hate Speedy Deleters, a 2008 essay by long since retired Ballonman, is still as valid today. Those of us who patrol large numbers of new pages can be forgiven for making the occasional mistake while others can learn from their 'beginner' errors. Worth reading.

Deletion tags

Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon (you will need to have 'Nominated for deletion' enabled for this in your filters) may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders using Twinkle. They require your further verification.

Paid editing

Please be sure to look for the tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. WMF policy requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines' (SNG). Alternatives to deletion
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves once more with notability guidelines for organisations and companies.
  • Blank-and-Redirect is a solution anchored in policy. Please consider this alternative before PRODing or CSD. Note however, that users will often revert or usurp redirects to re-create deleted articles. Do regularly patrol the redirects in the feed.
Not English
  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, and if they do have potential, tag as required, then move to draft. Modify the text of the template as appropriate before sending it.
Tools

Regular reviewers will appreciate the most recent enhancements to the New Pages Feed and features in the Curation tool, and there are still more to come. Due to the wealth of information now displayed by ORES, reviewers are strongly encouraged to use the system now rather than Twinkle; it will also correctly populate the logs.

Stub sorting, by SD0001: A new script is available for adding/removing stub tags. See User:SD0001/StubSorter.js, It features a simple HotCat-style dynamic search field. Many of the reviewers who are using it are finding it an improvement upon other available tools.

Assessment: The script at User:Evad37/rater makes the addition of Wikiproject templates extremely easy. New page creators rarely do this. Reviewers are not obliged to make these edits but they only take a few seconds. They can use the Curation message system to let the creator know what they have done.

DannyS712 bot III is now patrolling certain categories of uncontroversial redirects. Curious? Check out its patrol log.

Administrators' newsletter – October 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2019).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a discussion, a new criterion for speedy category renaming was added: C2F: One eponymous article, which applies if the category contains only an eponymous article or media file, provided that the category has not otherwise been emptied shortly before the nomination. The default outcome is an upmerge to the parent categories.

Technical news

  • As previously noted, tighter password requirements for Administrators were put in place last year. Wikipedia should now alert you if your password is less than 10 characters long and thus too short.

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello DIVINE,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 804 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.

This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

New Page Review newsletter December 2019

A graph showing the number of articles in the page curation feed from 12/21/18 - 12/20/19

Reviewer of the Year

This year's Reviewer of the Year is Rosguill. Having gotten the reviewer PERM in August 2018, they have been a regular reviewer of articles and redirects, been an active participant in the NPP community, and has been the driving force for the emerging NPP Source Guide that will help reviewers better evaluate sourcing and notability in many countries for which it has historically been difficult.

Special commendation again goes to Onel5969 who ends the year as one of our most prolific reviewers for the second consecutive year. Thanks also to Boleyn and JTtheOG who have been in the top 5 for the last two years as well.

Several newer editors have done a lot of work with CAPTAIN MEDUSA and DannyS712 (who has also written bots which have patrolled thousands of redirects) being new reviewers since this time last year.

Thanks to them and to everyone reading this who has participated in New Page Patrol this year.

Redirect autopatrol

A recent Request for Comment on creating a new redirect autopatrol pseduo-permission was closed early. New Page Reviewers are now able to nominate editors who have an established track record creating uncontroversial redirects. At the individual discretion of any administrator or after 24 hours and a consensus of at least 3 New Page Reviewers an editor may be added to a list of users whose redirects will be patrolled automatically by DannyS712 bot III.

Source Guide Discussion

Set to launch early in the new year is our first New Page Patrol Source Guide discussion. These discussions are designed to solicit input on sources in places and topic areas that might otherwise be harder for reviewers to evaluate. The hope is that this will allow us to improve the accuracy of our patrols for articles using these sources (and/or give us places to perform a WP:BEFORE prior to nominating for deletion). Please watch the New Page Patrol talk page for more information.

This month's refresher course

While New Page Reviewers are an experienced set of editors, we all benefit from an occasional review. This month consider refreshing yourself on Wikipedia:Notability (geographic features). Also consider how we can take the time for quality in this area. For instance, sources to verify human settlements, which are presumed notable, can often be found in seconds. This lets us avoid the (ugly) 'Needs more refs' tag.

Administrators' newsletter – February 2020

News and updates for administrators from the past month (January 2020).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following a request for comment, partial blocks are now enabled on the English Wikipedia. This functionality allows administrators to block users from editing specific pages or namespaces rather than the entire site. A draft policy is being workshopped at Wikipedia:Partial blocks.
  • The request for comment seeking the community's sentiment for a binding desysop procedure closed with wide-spread support for an alternative desysoping procedure based on community input. No proposed process received consensus.

Technical news

  • Twinkle now supports partial blocking. There is a small checkbox that toggles the "partial" status for both blocks and templating. There is currently one template: {{uw-pblock}}.
  • When trying to move a page, if the target title already exists then a warning message is shown. The warning message will now include a link to the target title. [181]

Arbitration

  • Following a recent arbitration case, the Arbitration Committee reminded administrators that checkuser and oversight blocks must not be reversed or modified without prior consultation with the checkuser or oversighter who placed the block, the respective functionary team, or the Arbitration Committee.

  • Following an RfC, the blocking policy was changed to state that sysops must not undo or alter CheckUser or Oversight blocks, rather than should not.
  • A request for comment confirmed that sandboxes of established but inactive editors may not be blanked due solely to inactivity.

Technical news

  • Following a discussion, Twinkle's default CSD behavior will soon change, most likely this week. After the change, Twinkle will default to "tagging mode" if there is no CSD tag present, and default to "deletion mode" if there is a CSD tag present. You will be able to always default to "deletion mode" (the current behavior) using your Twinkle preferences.

New Page Reviewer newsletter February 2020

Hello DIVINE,

Source Guide Discussion

The first NPP source guide discussion is now underway. It covers a wide range of sources in Ghana with the goal of providing more guidance to reviewers about sources they might see when reviewing pages. Hopefully, new page reviewers will join others interested in reliable sources and those with expertise in these sources to make the discussion a success.

Redirects

New to NPP? Looking to try something a little different? Consider patrolling some redirects. Redirects are relatively easy to review, can be found easily through the New Pages Feed. You can find more information about how to patrol redirects at WP:RPATROL.

Discussions and Resources
Refresher

Geographic regions, areas and places generally do not need general notability guideline type sourcing. When evaluating whether an article meets this notability guideline please also consider whether it might actually be a form of WP:SPAM for a development project (e.g. PR for a large luxury residential development) and not actually covered by the guideline.

New Page Reviewer newsletter June 2020

Hello DIVINE,

Your help can make a difference

NPP Sorting can be a great way to find pages needing new page patrolling that match your strengths and interests. Using ORES, it divides articles into topics such as Literature or Chemistry and on Geography. Take a look and see if you can find time to patrol a couple pages a day. With over 10,000 pages in the queue, the highest it's been since ACPERM, your help could really make a difference.

Google Adds New Languages to Google Translate

In late February, Google added 5 new languages to Google Translate: Kinyarwanda, Odia (Oriya), Tatar, Turkmen and Uyghur. This expands our ability to find and evaluate sources in those languages.

Discussions and Resources
  • A discussion on handling new article creation by paid editors is ongoing at the Village Pump.
  • Also at the Village Pump is a discussion about limiting participation at Articles for Deletion discussion.
  • A proposed new speedy deletion criteria for certain kinds of redirects ended with no consensus.
  • Also ending with no change was a proposal to change how we handle certain kinds of vector images.

ArbCom 2020 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2020 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 7 December 2020. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2020 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:45, 24 November 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Sandhya Sharma

Hello, Owlf

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Sandhya Sharma for deletion, because it seems to be inappropriate for a variety of reasons. For more details please see the notice on the article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

(Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.)

Nomination of Sandhya Sharma for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Sandhya Sharma is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sandhya Sharma until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion.

Pulisi (talk) 15:55, 6 December 2020 (UTC)

New Page Patrol December Newsletter

Hello DIVINE,

A chart of the 2020 New Page Patrol Queue

Year in review

It has been a productive year for New Page Patrol as we've roughly cut the size of the New Page Patrol queue in half this year. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great work done by Rosguill who was the reviewer of the most pages and redirects this past year. Thanks and credit go to JTtheOG and Onel5969 who join Rosguill in repeating in the top 10 from last year. Thanks to John B123, Hughesdarren, and Mccapra who all got the NPR permission this year and joined the top 10. Also new to the top ten is DannyS712 bot III, programmed by DannyS712 which has helped to dramatically reduce the number of redirects that have needed human patrolling by patrolling certain types of redirects (e.g. for differences in accents) and by also patrolling editors who are on on the redirect whitelist.

Reviewer of the Year

John B123 has been named reviewer of the year for 2020. John has held the permission for just over 6 months and in that time has helped cut into the queue by reviewing more than 18,000 articles. His talk page shows his efforts to communicate with users, upholding NPP's goal of nurturing new users and quality over quantity.

NPP Technical Achievement Award

As a special recognition and thank you DannyS712 has been awarded the first NPP Technical Achievement Award. His work programming the bot has helped us patrol redirects tremendously - more than 60,000 redirects this past year. This has been a large contribution to New Page Patrol and definitely is worthy of recognition.

Hi Owlf! I have accepted this draft before, but once Blablubbs marked that page as unreviewed, I have to move that into draftspace again. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. TBH, I don't think Tulsi Bhagat needs an article. MarioJump83! 02:34, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

17:54, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Draft:Tulsi Bhagat a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Tulsi Bhagat. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:26, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Tulsi Bhagat, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. "Wikipedians against notability"

Hi Owlf,

please explain how "Category:Wikipedians against notability" is compatible with your membership of the new page reviewer group.

Please also take a moment to justify copy-and-paste moving a draftified article back to mainspace, after two users have voiced their concerns about your draft.

Best regards,
~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:37, 20 February 2021 (UTC)

Edit warring

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Prakash Neupane; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.  Velella  Velella Talk   00:02, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Notice

The article Supriya Shrestha has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Violates WP:BLP1E policy, a single beauty pageant does not confer Wikipedia notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. This currently details allowing administrators, checkusers, stewards and those with a new usergroup to view the full IP address of unregistered users. Editors with at least 500 edits and an account over a year old will be able to see all but the end of the IP address in the proposal. The ability to see the IP addresses hidden behind the mask would be dependent on agreeing to not share the parts of the IP address they can see with those who do not have access to the same information. Accessing part of or the full IP address of a masked editor would also be logged. Comments on the draft are being welcomed at the talk page.

New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021

New Page Review queue September 2021

Hello DIVINE,

Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.

Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.

At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.

There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.

Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello DIVINE,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 804 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 853 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Mayor of Mechinagar Munciplity

Hi, I've removed your speedy deletion notice from Mayor of Mechinagar Munciplity because I can't find any evidence that it is a hoax. The article links to Balen Shah who apparently has been elected mayor, and there is even a link from that article to his candidacy website ([566]), along with the references on both articles which state exactly what the article says.

If you do have evidence that the article is a hoax, please consider opening an Articles for Deletion proposal detailing such evidence.

Osarius 08:54, 27 May 2022 (UTC)

Tagging pages for speedy deletion

Hello, DIVINE,

I appreciate your enthusiasm in tagging pages for speedy deletion but I think you need to carefully review the criteria at WP:CSD. For example, if a draft page has a sentence on it that you can understand, then it should not be tagged for CSD G1. This criteria isn't for bad or short drafts, it is for gibberish like "dkjsneidkls". Basically, if you can understand the content, then it would not be what we would consider nonsense, it is probably just a bad draft article or one that the editor just started. Please do not tag pages for deletion immediately after they have been created. Content creators need time to work on their drafts and they can be expected to be in terrible shape when they are first started. Unless it is vandalism, advertising, a copyright violation, or BLP-violating content, we allow editors to have badly written drafts in Draft space.

If you are going to do page patrol, your time is much better spent patrolling new articles in main space than articles in Draft space. Our readers will never see article drafts, they will never come across them so there is little we risk in allowing editors to learn how to edit in Draft space. But if an editor writes an article promoting their new video game and it's put into main space, it's likely to be viewed and should be removed if it reads like an advertisement.

I'm very pleased to see that you are posting notifications of your deletion taggings on page creator's talk page, sometimes that is not done and it is very important in case the editor has questions on why their pages were deleted. And maintaining a CSD log can help you see when your tagging was accepted and where you might need to improve your understanding of the very limited deletion criteria accepted in CSD. Thank you for all of your contributions! Liz Read! Talk! 22:39, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Oh, and I wanted to say that sometimes I have deleted pages you have tagged but under different criteria, I changed them to vandalism or spam rather than gibberish or tests. Liz Read! Talk! 22:43, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Liz Thanks for letting me know but i was just tagging the pages for CSD in draft which are used just for promotional purpose and personal gossip. I just look after them sometimes not that much but surely I'll keep in mind about your valuable suggestions for sure and will focous more on mainspace. Regards, DIVINE 📪 22:44, 19 June 2022 (UTC)
Sometimes it seems like test as the user and IP are new and it looks like they just wanted to post on wikipedia as a test edit but yes that's also comes under vandalism. Will take care of that next time. Regards, DIVINE 📪 22:46, 19 June 2022 (UTC)

Srushti Deshmukh

Hi. I saw you accepted Srushti Deshmukh at AfC yesterday. I have proposed it for deletion, as this person is a run-of-the-mill civil servant who only received media attention because they came first in an exam. The coverage is based on interviews with her, suggesting she has instigated the reporting. It is unlikely that there will be WP:SUSTAINED coverage of the person. If there is, then an article can be written about her in the future. Curb Safe Charmer (talk) 07:45, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

I don't have any objection regarding your Deletion proposal. I accepted the article as she is civil officer and IAS officer meet notability guidelines here in wikipedia. Following that and by finding some sources in google i decided to accept it.Regards, DIVINE 📪 07:51, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

Reckless speedy delete tags

User should exercise more restraint in the application of speedy delete banner, which may include placing proper controls on copyright infringement detection scripts. Most recently placed a speedy delete banner on Draft:Ahmad Shah Massoud because its contents mirrored Wikipedia mirrors. RightQuark (talk) 20:17, 20 June 2022 (UTC)

I tagged it as per G12 and copyright violations. That's not any reckless tag which was done by me. I did as per copyvivo. Regards, DIVINE 📪 00:54, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
Please note the text of G12: "Public-domain and other free content, such as a Wikipedia mirror, do not fall under this criterion, nor is mere lack of attribution of such works a reason for speedy deletion." As these matches are from Wikipedia mirrors and thus constitute free content they are not G12 violations nor are they copyright violations. RightQuark (talk) 01:41, 1 July 2022 (UTC)
You may also note WP:CSD specifically lists under "Non-criteria" (items not by themselves sufficient to justify speedy deletion) item 8: "If content appears both here and somewhere else (possibly in modified form), consider the possibility that Wikipedia's is the original version and the other site copied from Wikipedia's version. Alternatively, the same author may have written both versions, or the original may be free content." Your application of the speedy delete tag is clearly inappropriate under both the text of WP:CSD G12 and WP:CSD non-criteria. Please amend your practices. RightQuark (talk) 21:56, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter June 2022

New Page Review queue June 2022

Hello DIVINE,

Backlog status

At the time of the last newsletter (No.27, May 2022), the backlog was approaching 16,000, having shot up rapidly from 6,000 over the prior two months. The attention the newsletter brought to the backlog sparked a flurry of activity. There was new discussion on process improvements, efforts to invite new editors to participate in NPP increased and more editors requested the NPP user right so they could help, and most importantly, the number of reviews picked up and the backlog decreased, dipping below 14,000[a] at the end of May.

Since then, the news has not been so good. The backlog is basically flat, hovering around 14,200. I wish I could report the number of reviews done and the number of new articles added to the queue. But the available statistics we have are woefully inadequate. The only real number we have is the net queue size.[b]

In the last 30 days, the top 100 reviewers have all made more than 16 patrols (up from 8 last month), and about 70 have averaged one review a day (up from 50 last month).

While there are more people doing more reviews, many of the ~730 with the NPP right are doing little. Most of the reviews are being done by the top 50 or 100 reviewers. They need your help. We appreciate every review done, but please aim to do one a day (on average, or 30 a month).

Backlog drive

A backlog reduction drive, coordinated by buidhe and Zippybonzo, will be held from July 1 to July 31. Sign up here. Barnstars will be awarded.

TIP – New school articles

Many new articles on schools are being created by new users in developing and/or non-English-speaking countries. The authors are probably not even aware of Wikipedia's projects and policy pages. WP:WPSCH/AG has some excellent advice and resources specifically written for these users. Reviewers could consider providing such first-time article creators with a link to it while also mentioning that not all schools pass the GNG and that elementary schools are almost certainly not notable.

Misc

There is a new template available, {{NPP backlog}}, to show the current backlog. You can place it on your user or talk page as a reminder:

Very high unreviewed pages backlog: 11925 articles, as of 10:00, 10 November 2024 (UTC), according to DatBot

There has been significant discussion at WP:VPP recently on NPP-related matters (Draftification, Deletion, Notability, Verifiability, Burden). Proposals that would somewhat ease the burden on NPP aren't gaining much traction, although there are suggestions that the role of NPP be fundamentally changed to focus only on major CSD-type issues.

Reminders
  • Consider staying informed on project issues by putting the project discussion page on your watchlist.
  • If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.
  • If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.
  • To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.
Notes
  1. ^ not including another ~6,000 redirects
  2. ^ The number of weekly reviews reported in the NPP feed includes redirects, which are not included in the backlog we primarily track.

Deletion discussion about Khel Raj Pandey

Hello, DIVINE, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username MPGuy2824, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Khel Raj Pandey, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Khel Raj Pandey.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|MPGuy2824}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

I declined your speedy deletion nomination. db-person is only appropriate where there is no credible claim of importance or significance, which is a lower standard than notability. AfD would be the way to go in this case. Regards, decltype (talk) 13:28, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Implying that another editor is lying is a serious violation of the assumption of good faith when there is no specific reason to make this claim. New Page Patrol newsletter August 2022

New Page Review queue August 2022

Hello DIVINE,

Backlog status

After the last newsletter (No.28, June 2022), the backlog declined another 1,000 to 13,000 in the last week of June. Then the July backlog drive began, during which 9,900 articles were reviewed and the backlog fell by 4,500 to just under 8,500 (these numbers illustrate how many new articles regularly flow into the queue). Thanks go to the coordinators Buidhe and Zippybonzo, as well as all the nearly 100 participants. Congratulations to Dr vulpes who led with 880 points. See this page for further details.

Unfortunately, most of the decline happened in the first half of the month, and the backlog has already risen to 9,600. Understandably, it seems many backlog drive participants are taking a break from reviewing and unfortunately, we are not even keeping up with the inflow let alone driving it lower. We need the other 600 reviewers to do more! Please try to do at least one a day.

Coordination
MB and Novem Linguae have taken on some of the coordination tasks. Please let them know if you are interested in helping out. MPGuy2824 will be handling recognition, and will be retroactively awarding the annual barnstars that have not been issued for a few years.
Open letter to the WMF
The Page Curation software needs urgent attention. There are dozens of bug fixes and enhancements that are stalled (listed at Suggested improvements). We have written a letter to be sent to the WMF and we encourage as many patrollers as possible to sign it here. We are also in negotiation with the Board of Trustees to press for assistance. Better software will make the active reviewers we have more productive.
TIP - Reviewing by subject
Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages by their most familiar subjects can do so from the regularly updated sorted topic list.
New reviewers
The NPP School is being underused. The learning curve for NPP is quite steep, but a detailed and easy-to-read tutorial exists, and the Curation Tool's many features are fully described and illustrated on the updated page here.

Speedy deletion declined: Tamunominini Makinde

Hello DIVINE. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Tamunominini Makinde, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: 2nd source alone is enough for CSD. Take to AfD if required. Thank you. GedUK  07:04, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Being a spouse of a governor meet the notability guidelines to be here on wikipedia or WP:GNG ? DIVINE (talk) 07:06, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
The threshold for A7 is a Wikipedia:Credible claim of significance. This is a much lower standard than GNG. This simply means that anything that doesn't meet CCS must have a proper deletion discussion instead of a speedy delete. Hope that helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 08:08, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
Yeah, I was confused about that at first as well. No significance-- A7, no notability- ProD, dubious notability- AfD. Best -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 11:28, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
That she was "significant" enough to have articles about her birthday argues for significance. That I needed Zofran after reading those articles argues against notability. -- Deepfriedokra (talk) 11:31, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Prakash Neupane requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Prakash Neupane (4th nomination). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

बडा काजी (talk) 15:04, 8 December 2022 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello DIVINE,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Moving a Translated Article Clarification

Hi there @DIVINE,

I wanted to point out something about an article I started in case you didn't know (Konfuz). That was a translation from the Russian Wikipedia and was translated to the best of my ability. I also wanted to mention that all of the sources that were in that article were directly from the Russian Wiki (I took out one of them because apparently, it was blacklisted here). Does it not matter? Will it still be kept as a draft or would you be able to bring it back into the mainspace? Keep in mind it was actually the first time I've ever done a translation on here, so there was going to be at least some problems. Please let me know what you think. Thanks in advance. Losipov (talk) 16:54, 9 May 2023 (UTC)

@DIVINE just following up on this. Thanks again! Losipov (talk) 22:58, 10 May 2023 (UTC)
Thank you for reaching out. I understand that you have translated the article and need to ensure compliance with the guidelines of the English Wikipedia. To facilitate the process and ensure proper review, I have moved the code to the draft space. You can continue working on it there and resubmit it when you are ready. Rest assured, someone will review it for you. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. Thank you. DIVINE 15:23, 12 May 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – June 2023

News and updates for administrators from the past month (May 2023).

Guideline and policy news

  • Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
  • As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.

Technical news

  • Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.

Arbitration

  • The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023

Hello DIVINE,

New Page Review queue April to June 2023

Backlog

Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.

Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.

Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.

You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.

Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

Regular closers of XfD forums were also encouraged to note when broader community discussion, or changes to policies and guidelines, would be helpful.

Consider switching to the new MoveToDraft script

Hi, please consider switching to the new Move To Draft script. It is fork of the script that you are using, but has some bug fixes, important warnings, and some feature enhancements. You'll have to comment out/remove the line mentioning Evad's version in your common.js file. If for any reason, you decide to stick to Evad's version, no worries. Ciao. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:04, 7 September 2023 (UTC)

Information icon

Hello DIVINE. The nature of your edits, such as the one you made to Scott Woodward (marketer), gives the impression you have an undisclosed financial stake in promoting a topic, but you have not complied with Wikipedia's mandatory paid editing disclosure requirements. Paid advocacy is a category of conflict of interest (COI) editing that involves being compensated by a person, group, company or organization to use Wikipedia to promote their interests. Undisclosed paid advocacy is prohibited by our policies on neutral point of view and what Wikipedia is not, and is an especially serious type of COI; the Wikimedia Foundation regards it as a "black hat" practice akin to black-hat search-engine optimization.

Paid advocates are strongly discouraged from direct article editing, and should instead propose changes on the talk page of the article in question if an article exists. If the article does not exist, paid advocates are strongly discouraged from attempting to write an article at all. At best, any proposed article creation should be submitted through the articles for creation process, rather than directly.

Regardless, if you are receiving or expect to receive compensation for your edits, broadly construed, you are required by the Wikimedia Terms of Use to disclose your employer, client and affiliation. You can post such a mandatory disclosure to your user page at User:DIVINE. The template {{Paid}} can be used for this purpose – e.g. in the form: {{paid|user=DIVINE|employer=InsertName|client=InsertName}}. If I am mistaken – you are not being directly or indirectly compensated for your edits – please state that in response to this message. Otherwise, please provide the required disclosure. In either case, do not edit further until you answer this message. Liz Read! Talk! 01:19, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello, DIVINE,
Scott Woodward has been very insistent that he have an article about himself on Wikipedia and the article you wrote is almost identical to the article that was deleted a few months ago through AFD under a different page title. You haven't been that active recently so I'm wondering why you returned to this project to write an article about a New York marketing executive. How did you even hear about this person?
If you responded to a request to write this article, please disclose this connection on your User page or else you are in danger of being blocked as an undisclosed paid editor. You just have to be up-front about what is going on and follow Wikipedia guidelines for paid contributors. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure for more information. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:25, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
And DIVINE--I gotta say, nothing in your editing history would have prepared me for something so poorly written and verified as this puff piece. If there's something that needs saying, it's better to say it sooner than later. Drmies (talk) 03:07, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
@Drmies & @Liz, I dedicated considerable time to Wikipedia, but I faced two blocks. I previously served as an NPR, leading to my termination. I held roles in Rollback and PCR, the latter I requested removal from permanently. This involvement was WP:PAID; I've transparently deleted my user page multiple times. Where should I address this? I've also recently created a page under WP:COI, acknowledging a social media connection without financial gain. Thanks. DIVINE 04:52, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
@Drmies @LizThat has been done. Thankyou & check my userpage. In future i will do paid articles and will not forget to highlight. Thankyou DIVINE 05:06, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Tulsi Bhagat

Hello, DIVINE. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Tulsi Bhagat".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. When you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Liz Read! Talk! 01:10, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Scott Woodward (marketer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Scott Woodward (marketing executive). When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

Liz Read! Talk! 01:18, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Concern regarding Draft:Prakash Neupane

Information icon Hello, DIVINE. This is a bot-delivered message letting you know that Draft:Prakash Neupane, a page you created, has not been edited in at least 5 months. Drafts that have not been edited for six months may be deleted, so if you wish to retain the page, please edit it again or request that it be moved to your userspace.

If the page has already been deleted, you can request it be undeleted so you can continue working on it.

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello DIVINE,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:45, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

G7

The instructions for WP:G7 are very clear that deletion can be requested provided that the only substantial content of the page was added by its author. As soon as someone else contributes substantial content to a page, it ceases to be eligible for G7 deletion. Managing a conflict of interest

Information icon Hello, DIVINE. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Luca Schnetzler, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for article subjects for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. In addition, I strongly suggest you to use WP:AFC to create any new article. Bhivuti45 (talk) 18:59, 29 March 2024 (UTC)

I have been creating article directly to namespace since 10 years and i will continue doing that if i am not involved in PAID editing or COI in the relevant article and where i am involved i have stated that in my userpage. And this COI notice is just an garbage as an personal attack and you could have asked, checked before sending warning message or have started discussions. Your Draft moved was really baseless and i can clearly see in your talk page that you were involved in paid editing before and failed to respond and if you came here as meatpuppetry that’s really wrong according to wikipedia policy and guidelines. one good suggestion for you “Assume Good Faith and Avoid personal attacks”. Hello DIVINE, I noticed that you disclosed being hired by Scott Woodward (marketer) for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, you didn't provide a link to your profile where you advertise your paid editing services. This is necessary for transparency, as outlined in WP:PAID. Could you please share the link to where you advertise your paid editing services? Thank you, GSS💬 08:30, 1 April 2024 (UTC)

Hey @GSS: thanks for letting me know that I have to provide a link where I advertised my paid editing services. But here's the thing: I still haven't advertised anywhere like Upwork or Fiverr for my paid Wikipedia services. I got this work from a WhatsApp group where Scott themselves or their PR team got in touch with me, so I enlisted that Scott paid me on my userpage. Additionally, I don’t have & neither i’m engaged with any PR firms outside. So if who’s the one who gave paid work is supposed to Scott themselves or their team as it’s been few months . Thankyou DIVINE 09:07, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for responding, is this the same case with other articles you have created such as Pudgy Penguins and Luca Schnetzler? GSS💬 10:42, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
No, it is not the same case. I haven't received a single penny from those articles. I disclosed my paid editing a few months before I created the articles you mentioned above. If I had been paid, I would have clearly disclosed it on my userpage, as I don't have any problem disclosing paid editing, as I have already accepted it before. DIVINE 11:01, 2 April 2024 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024

Hello DIVINE,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.
