Question from Zelda Zanders (16:06, 23 July 2024)

[edit]

Hello! I'm a new Wiki editor and I recently expanded an article on the attorney Melvin Wulf. Another user flagged the article as 1) excessively reliant on primary sources, and 2) potentially not compliant with notability guidelines. When I asked them to elaborate, they recommended I reach out directly to my mentor for guidance.

I'm only aware of two primary sources used: the Rutgers Oral History Archive interview conducted by Nicholas Molnar, cited twice, and Wulf's article about Philip Agee, cited once. Would you be able to glance over the article and let me know if there are additional citations I should be concerned about? I'd also really appreciate any guidance on the notability flag.

Article here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melvin_Wulf

Thanks so much! Zelda --Zelda Zanders (talk) 16:06, 23 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Zelda Zanders. Welcome to Wikipedia! I'm not an expert on this topic, but I think a lot of the citations to the laws are also primary sources. You can find out more about primary sources here: WP:Primary sources 94rain Talk 09:27, 28 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Will do, thank you! Zelda Zanders (talk) 18:09, 29 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Rowanangus (03:15, 30 July 2024)

[edit]

Hi,

I have used wikis in the past, but I have never edited wikipedia. I have a small bit of information I'd like to add to the article on northbridge chips (one or two sentences), but I have no particular interest in taking credit for the edit. Should I make the suggestion on the talk page for the article, or should I just forge ahead and make the edit myself? --Rowanangus (talk) 03:15, 30 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Rowanangus. Welcome to Wikipedia! I'd recommend being bold to make the changes. If others have questions about your edits, make sure to discuss them! See also Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle 94rain Talk 07:03, 16 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Socksoup (16:03, 17 September 2024)

[edit]

Hi 94Rain, My submission was just declined and I am trying to determine what I need to do to change it. I have removed a peacock word (remarkable) and I have changed a sentence, but I feel like there are more things that are needed to make the submission acceptable or encyclopedia format as Qnce (editor) suggested it should be. --Socksoup (talk) 16:03, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Suryapolina (04:10, 18 September 2024)

[edit]

Hello, how many edits does it take to have editing privileges ? --Suryapolina (talk) 04:10, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Suryapolina. Welcome to Wikipedia! Wikipedia is built on the principle that anyone can edit and therefore aims to have as many pages as possible open for public editing. In some circumstances, pages may need to be protected from modification by certain groups of editors. You can find details about protection levels here: Wikipedia:Protection_policy#Comparison_table. 94rain Talk 01:58, 19 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
