Films/mythology sub-cat
[edit]Greetings Dudeman! Since you obviously have worked hard on this article, you may want to know that there's a new sub-cat under Category:Films by source, which is Category:Films based on Greco-Roman mythology. Cheers, ♥ Her Pegship♥ 18:26, 6 July 2006 (UTC)
Film serials
[edit]Hey Dude! Actually, I tend to lurk about the film/book categories and tidy them up periodically, and I saw the article under Category:Film. The Filmms WikiProject is quite lively here and you can find some useful stuff in these spots:
- Wikipedia:WikiProject Films and its sub-projects
- Category:Film templates
- Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films)
- Template:Infobox Film
Also, I know that Lady Aleena has been active in compiling lists of contemporary film series, so you might pick her brain about what resources she likes. Go to it, and I'll keep lurking...Cheers! ♥ Her Pegship♥ 03:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Dudeman...so, let's get to work here.
- The list should be in chronological order earliest to latest, so it needs to be flipped. Not an easy task I know.
- As you are grouping the serials by production company, there needs to be headings under each of the years for them. Also, they should not be in all caps. I could fix the all caps quickly, if you wish.
- More information may be needed, such as how many films were in each serial.
- Once we get this tidied, getting it noticed will be next. Let's tidy it up first. Sound good?
- LA @ 03:45, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Dudeman...I am working on it here. It is slow going, but I got the years flipped, now I am trying to alphabetalize the serials within each year. After giving each production company their own headings, it became unweildy, so I came up with what is in years 1912-1916. Let me know what you think. - LA @ 05:43, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
List of films made in the Third Reich
[edit]Some movies on List of films made in the Third Reich have links that point to subjects of the film, not an article on it (examples: Amphitryon, Mazurka, etc.). Would it not be better to reference any interesting tidbits in the Notes column. As it stands it would seem that the links take you to an article on the movie. --Swift 08:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- [The following comment moved here from User:Swift]
- I was actually trying to do that to Kurt Gerrons "Theresenstadt" - It links to the Concentration Camp article, but I was trying to get it to link specifically to the part about the Camps use as a propaganda tool. (A really disturbing story BTW) Also - I know there is a rule against posting commecial links in the External Links sections, except when there is special content? I was thinking of adding links to Internatinal Historic videos because they do have useful info on my subjects.--Dudeman5685 16:39, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
- I sort of figured you were (history shows you linking ot the section. What I was suggesting that such links to topic were done in the "Notes" column of the tables.
- I've seen commercial links in "External links" sections. If you do so tactfully, no-one might object. Be bold. If you use the video as a reference, you can cite it. Useful pages: Category:Citation templates and Wikipedia:Footnotes for useful material.
- Final note: if you check your contributions, there are many edits spaced very closely in time. This clogs up the history pages[1][2] and makes changes hard to follow. You may like to use the Show preview button, on the right of the Save page button to check intermediate edits. --Swift 19:31, 25 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry, but I only now noticed the comment you left on my userpage on the 26th. Comments and questions are better left on the talk page as users get notified of those. Also, it would really help with page histories if you were to use the "Show preview" button rather than save after every little edit. --Swift 03:54, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

NFB wartime films
[edit]Hi. I didn't realize that CineRoute was just for Canadians -- I know that access is limited to "NFB Film Club" members, or actually a small subsection thereof. But I can tell you that the available films are not for download, just streaming. My colleagues were very clear on this. Unfortunately, I've never worked with any of the NFB WWII propaganda titles -- even the Oscar-winner Churchill's Island. I've never actually seen it, though of course I've heard about. So I don't have access to any DVD that I could copy a file from and email. In fact, I've never heard of these films being telecast in their entirety Canada during my 17 years at the Board. I'm afraid the clips that are online at the NFB site is the best I can do. Sorry. Shawn in Montreal 19:33, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

List of Holocaust films
[edit]The "a" isn't necessary; it just makes it easier to edit. Article pages should be designed for the readers, not the editors. Most people, myself included, would be confused by the a in the section headers. They should be removed. --dm (talk) 19:52, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- I object to the small note. Section headers should be clear and self-explanatory. The article should be written so that they're easy for readers to use and understand, not for your own convenience. It's not that difficult to edit the whole page instead of a single section. --dm (talk) 20:55, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
- The 'a' is not minuscule. It's 1/6th of the header. Where would the note be? Because there are 7 subsections and a table of contents where the a's appear. I'm afraid you'd be making a typographically ugly page even uglier. --dm (talk) 21:03, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Can you please explain your edits to this article on January 20? After I had removed all the calls to the flagIOC template (which results in links to articles like Italy at the 1936 Summer Olympics, you put them back in! What was the point of that? Please use the flagcountry template, which is far more appropriate for this article. Andrwsc 18:48, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
- I've already fixed it. The flagicon and flagcountry templates are designed for normal use. flagIOC is specific for Olympic articles, because of the wikilinks it produces. In this case, there was always an "Italy old" flag to get what you wanted. Andrwsc 01:33, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
HI. I see you have done a terrific job on the list of Pre 1945 German films. It would be an enormous help if you could fill in the List of West German films and List of East German films 1945-1989. THanks. Keep up the great wikiing I'm impressed

Hi and thank you for your help in the country lists. There is a discussion curently in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Films/List and navigation management to try to define what entries are needed in the lists and which we could try to filter out. This problem has some history and it's worth a collective decision. Some lists are very concise (maybe too concise -see List of Greek films) and others start becoming very long. The main point however is that they should be useful and usable, so any opinions are very welcome at this point. Hoverfish Talk 08:42, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Yes I know you are one busy bunny but if you could complete the DDR 1960-1989 this would be terrific. Leave out TV films though. I am curentlY completing Argentina, will do West germany if Hoverfish doesn't get there first soon. Saludos! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ "Expecting you" "S.P.E.C.T.R.E" 16:14, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
I think each one of us should be absolutely free to decide what he/she wants to edit, which IMO is the most terrific point about contributing to Wikipedia. I am just trying to make sure everyone agrees in some general lines, but we'll get there too. So enjoy your editis and we'll have a full series of great films-by-country lists soon. Hoverfish Talk 06:12, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
One more request for your opinion: should we somehow contain the 1945-1949 period in a section of its own? It obviously doesn't belong to East or West, but it's too little to get a page of its own. On the other hand it would be redundant to add it to both of the East and West articles (but maybe more correct). Also I did some fixes in all the lead sections of the all German lists to be more in conformity with each other. If you see any mistake, please feel free to correct it, or to let me know. Theozoology link
[edit]Hello. You've added external links for the Lanz von Liebenfels book in a couple of articles, are you sure the subtitle is correctly translated? "Lore of the Sodom-Apelings and the Electron of the Gods" is how it's rendered in Goodrick-Clarke and a fair number of other places. My German is elementary, but it looks more accurate to me. The name Sodom has wider connotations than "sodomite"; and "Divine" is probably too vague (it could imply a monotheistic concept, but Götter means "gods'", as in Götterdämmerung). Just want to get it right; hope I'm not being pedantic. Gnostrat 22:30, 14 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello
[edit]Hello Dudeman5685. Thank you for kind words and all :)
So, regarding the imperialism of the Soviet Union, what can I say. We were wrong (about the Communism), and we made half of the world to follow our false beliefs. But there's a problem how to comprehend that. Soviet Union and the modern Russia are completely different entities: SU was an ideologized empire, Russia is a usual selfish shit. Say this not to disclaim responsibility -- but you really can't understand policies of the SU from today positions. That was simply irrational and silly. We wasted our own resources to supply the allies, while since 60s Soviet Union wasn't able to produce enough grain to feed its own population. Well, that imperialism could mean something for the SU -- like, to spread Communism, to counter American imperialism :), but that's empty speech now (since 1990).
Definitely, I don't see anything to be proud about that. The only thing I actually feel sorry for are the wasted lives. No lives should be wasted for mere ideas.
Perhaps I didn't make my answer clear -- but I don't really remember Soviet Union (I'm 21) and I didn't discuss that a lot.
There's also a point that if you reflect on the history of the Soviet Union, it has much more tragic pages to worry about than the soviet imperialism.
Perhaps there's also some broader question -- is messing with other countries' affairs ever justified? I believe there's no universal answer, but the one which seems to be natural here is a definite no. Just because other countries have their own brains to live on. Just because we were wrong once, and how can you ever be sure you bring good, how can you be sure you'll be thanked after that not disdained? Better to say, how can you accept responsibility for others?
Of course, this position if you look from the other side is simple egotism. And imho while there's a hope for an individual person to remain good and all, that's different for countries. Russia a selfish shit is a true position. That's a little bit depressing, but first of all you have to settle all your problems, and then you'll have no time to worry about others.
Perhaps you have different views about american imperialism, because of, yes, South Korea, Japan, Germany. That worked, and that may encourage you for further deeds.
Cheers!

Perhaps I haven't again made it clear. You had a cold war question, while I better focus on the today agenda. Indeed, as Russia and the US are no more enemies, there are global problems to face. The third world, which due to the poverty will be a major source of instability in the following say 200 years. Nuclear armaments, which are yet "ready" as in the worst cold war years. Indeed, if say some Aliens would like to inflame the nuclear war, all they need is to explode a bomb over Moscow and one over Washington, all the rest we will do ourself on the timescale of minutes.
We really are no more enemies, although there are some quite untidy moments. (Like, I live just several kilometers from the Second Ring of the Moscow ABM system -- and I would be glad if it never had to be set in action.) And how to live on is a big question. Something called real politics. ellol (talk) 20:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
---
Well, theoretically American imperialism was about spreading freedom and democracy and countering the Communism. Today in Russia we have people who justify it all, like claim it's of no importance what's happened with Hiroshima and Nagasaki -- but it's great what's the Japan has today come to (said Valeria Novodvorskaya).
Lol. There was recently an article of a girl who's visited Afghanistan a year ago. [3] Lemme translate a bit... I got the answer to the question -- why we, the former enemies, are yet loved in Afghanistan? -- from a usual person named Ahmad in a guest house in a little city Puli-Humri. A man of the waning generation, yet somewhat speaking Russian but already better or worse speaking English explained it easily: "You fought with courage, you killed us, and then sat with us at one table and drank vodka. You never disdained us. When I come to an American here in Afghanistan, first of all he points an automated gun on me. He both fears and contempts me. He would never drink with me nor share bread with me. Because for him I'm an inferior being. And Russian was a brother. Even when he killed."
If you want to explore your knowledge about Russia -- I can only encourage you. That wouldn't be any shocking knowledge -- I mean, your ideas won't be shattered as Russian society today has accepted ideas of market economy and democracy -- but you will enrich youself, that's all...
Btw, if you really want to show your esteem -- may I know your real name? :) That's of no real importance, of course, but better to speak with somebody, not a complete anonymous :) ellol (talk) 01:27, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
-- Hello again.
I'm sorry -- now that is overuse of your hospitality.
But if your global question was of the existence of the Alternative -- there are a couple of my words.
On the scale of societies, there indeed is no alternative to capitalism and market economy. Socialism just doesn't work in XXI conditions. If you track the economic history of SU you'll see that yourself -- signs of the coming decay can be seen since 1960s. Although that's only my view. 11% of Russians think differently -- I mean those who'd recently vote for the Communist Party of the Russian Federation.
But what encourages in that although no alternative for societies can be seen, there's yet a vast field of alternatives for an individual person. And now the number of alternatives is in fact even higher than in the Soviet Union -- that's my answer for the same question. If that was not your question -- sorry. Anyway, now I'll no more disturb you :). ellol (talk) 17:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
re: cold war question
[edit]Hello, Dudeman5685. Thank you. I better address you by nick, yes?
No, you are mistaken, I'm a male. Ellol is just a convenient nick, my name is Evgeny V. Filatov, in fact it's on my user page. Russian girls are indeer very beautiful, but i'm a Russian guy :)
I understand your question. Right now unfortunately I have no time to investigate for certain politician's speeches and so. Will try to do that after a while. Rudely speaking, spectrum of Russian political thought is placed between two poles -- liberals and patriots. Liberals (Valeria Novodvorskaya, Yevgeniya Albats, Shenderovich, etc.) indeed believe Soviet Union did everything wrong. They resist attempts of streightening Russian statehood, mostly they are in opposition to the current regime, and they totally ignore views of ordinary citizens. Like, if the nation supports the regime they see as antidemocratic, this merely speaks about lameness of the nation. This partially explains their little support among the people. Of course it's also that they have less access to the most influential mass media, than in 90s. But on the other hand, there's no way the regime can cut out speech freedom without evoking another civil war. So there's a way of a dynamic equilibrium.
Patriots (I don't even know -- Oleg Kashin perhaps?, Valery Tretyakov, others) see the Soviet Union as a part of our history.
Perhaps liberals feel guilt for Soviet imperialism -- if those guys can ever feel guilt. At least they think Russian people should feel guilt. I guess patriots only feel it was a waste of resources.
Perhaps you would be interested in some excerpts from Barsenkov & Vdovin "History of Russia. 1917-2004.", the textbook accepted at the Historical faculty of the Moscow State University. Pieces from it regarding foreign policy of Soviet Union in respect of Third World Countries:
- "Thaw", 1953-1964
- page 502: Soviet Union paid much attention towards development of relationships with "third world" countries -- India, Indonesia, Birma, Afghanistan etc. They were aided with building of large national-economy objects (metallurgical complex in India, Aswan Dam in Egypt, etc). In 1953-1964 over 6,000 enterprises were built in various countries with financial and technician aid of USSR.
- Early "Developed Socialism", 1964-1977
- page 517: Relationships with "third world" countries in the period of early 'developed socialism' in Soviet Union were determined by its yearning to gain new allies and set up mutually beneficial cooperation with them. Soviet Union performed at the side of Egypt and Syria in Seven-Day War (!) with Israel in June 1967, it favoured calming the other military outburst in the Middle East in Autumn 1973, it supported India in its conflicts with Pakistan in the middle of 60-s and in 1971. The priority in relationships with developing countries was given to countries of 'socialistic direction' (Cambodia, Laos, Somali, Angola, Mozambique, Nicaragua). They received economical and military aid, sometimes amounting to milliards dollars. Military blocks logics of USSR lead in foreign policy to establishing allied ties also with dictatorship regimes (Iraq, Syria, Lybia, Ethiopia). Equally the same politics was carried by USA, which supported utterly reactional regimes of anticommunist and antisoviet orientation.
- Later "Developed Socialism", 1977-1985
- page 538: [on discussing arms race unbearable for Soviet economics] The aid for developing countries was becoming other 'source of bankruptcy' of USSR . In the end of 70s USSR was bound with diplomatic ties with over 130s states, more then a half of them the developing ones. Striving to expand its influence Soviet Union sent for a work in those countries its military and civilian experts, provided enormous priveleged long-term credits, carried shipments of cheap armaments and raw material. If in 1955-1968 shipments of armaments to 'brother regimes' constituted a sum of 4.5 milliard dollars, and 9,2 mlrd dollars in 1966-1975, it was already 35.4 mlrd dollars in 1978-1982. USSR spent a lot for educating numerous foreign students and postgraduates. However effectiency of the help turned out to be inessential, credits in most cases were not returned.
Doesn't lack of patriotism, right?
In fact as you can see, relationships with third-world countries are not a much popular theme.
Unfortunately for now I can't provide a more comprehensive answer, just due to the lack of time. If you are interested, I'll try to return to the topic after about a week when I get more free.

-- The situation with so-called liberals is in fact easy. If in the U.S. combination of liberal democratic ideas and American patriotism leads to overwhelming victory, in Russia the combination of liberal democratic ideas and American patriotism leads to a political failure.
I don't explain position of Russian patriots -- I guess patriotism is nearly the same in every country. Perhaps of Russian patriots you can see Mikhail Leontyev and Gleb Pavlovsky -- they are bright figures.
However liberals and patriots only define utter points of a political battlefield, although I would say today its patriots who rule the game.
Well, the topic of Soviet imperialism of course extends far more than third-world countries -- mostly meaning countries of 'socialistic block'. But it may need books to describe it adequately... also given that it's also often a painful question for the parties involved. ellol (talk) 22:54, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit]I've removed the thing you put into the Triad article about Dr. No. A quick google reveals that Flemming's book was published by a company called "Triad", but I can't find anything confirming that Dr. No was ex-Triad (although I must admit, it's been several years since I have seen the film). [edit]Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Baden/Wurttemburg Elections, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. [edit]Nice on the Socialist World...
If you're affiliated with Archive.org, I've got probably 1000 (or more, I've totally lost count) pdf documents up on my site ( http://www.marxisthistory.org ). Not all of them are 100% indisputably copyright clear according to the most conservative interpretation of copyright law, amen, but the overwhelming majority are clear beyond a shadow of a doubt under any interpretation... I ran a search and notice that something like 90 documents have already migrated to Archive.org, which is great. I'd like to strongly encourage you to harvest away at them, if that appeals to you. Many of them have made their way to Marxists Internet Archive already, but nothing is forever in cyberspace and having them up in parallel at Archive.org would be a very good thing, methinks. MIA is a small group and I'm just me, so having things up several times in several places is all for the good... Virtually all are machine readable PDFs. Carrite (talk) 18:10, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Left Wing National Conference
[edit]I don't recall having ever seen a complete list of attendees to the June 1919 Left Wing National Conference.
There are links on my website to: 1. Conference call; 2. Revised Left Wing Manifesto passed by the conference; 3. Minutes of gathering; 4. Fraina account of conference; 5. Stenographic extract of speeches. You are, of course, welcome to upload any of these things to Archive.org if you haven't already and to link up. If you would rather I do that, say the word. Page of my site with the links is: http://www.marxisthistory.org/subject/usa/eam/socialistparty.html

- It just occurred to me that maybe the Russian Federation's Novyi Mir has coverage of the conference — the film runs through July 1919. I'll spin it and check it out if you want me to. I've got the Ukrainian Federation's Robitnyk film on order, but it will be a while and it seems to me that the feds shut that publication down in 1918 anyway... I've got Työmies for the period, too, but I don't think the Finns attended. The only Volkszeitung I have so far starts 9/1/19, unfortunately. Carrite (talk) 02:36, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- BTW, read most of the Fraina Trial thing at work today. Interesting takeaway for me was that the CPA went underground in New York after the Nov. 7, 1919, Lusk raid, but still had headquarters aboveground in Chicago until after the night of Jan. 2/3. I'm not sure what it all means other than the fact that I hadn't pondered the idea that things went underground at a different pace in different places. Carrite (talk) 02:40, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
- That's convenient that there's already a list drawn up. I want to get down to the Hoover Archives again this summer, where the Draper papers relating to the two CP books are located (he almost certainly will have a photocopy of this list somewhere in his stuff), so there's a decent chance I'll be able to bang into it there. The original he cites (I presume in NYC) is out of reach for me though... And it will be a while before I make it to Palo Alto, I'm just gearing up for a month long road trip/archive hopping expedition to Washington State, Minnesota Immigration History Research Center, Wisconsin Historical Society, and Michigan. So it'll be late summer before I head south. I'm spinning 1887 SLP stuff at the moment and will take a look at Novyi Mir as soon as I get a chance — probably mid-week. I'm almost positive that Revolutionary Age doesn't include such a list. best, Tim Carrite (talk) 16:39, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Gitlow
[edit]Per: >>f you're going over to the Hoover Institution, perhaps, you might also want to take a stroll over to the Ben Gitlow archives. You notice the last three pamphlets on his list were the ones published by the evangelical Christian Crusade Ministries. It would be interesting to have one of these online to get a feel of Gitlows final political evolution (there is almost no biographical material available on his last years). Unfortunately the only 2 libraries worldcat says has a copy of them (Columbia & East Carolina) won't part with them (or even a photocopy) through inter-library loan. The only bookseller I can find is Bolerium which is selling the The Negro Question: Communist Civil War Policy. for $35, which is outrageous for a 12p. pamphlet, no matter how rare (I tried to hagle it down, but no luck). If you have the time, it may be worthwhile to take a digital camera and see if they have a copy of one of these pamphlets at Hoover. Its pretty easy to make a digital facsimile of a rare book taking digital photos of each page, (I've done it before) and they are all pretty short...
- Hey, Dude, I've been through the Gitlow stuff once already and don't remember any of the late pamphlets among that — but his is among the stuff that I want to take a look at again, so I'll keep my eyes open. They don't allow cameras at the Hoover (and charge big bucks for photos that they take) but basically allow +/- 200 photocopies per academic year, so the way to capture that stuff is with their copy machine. $35 is steep, but given the rarity of the title, probably not far off of market value. I'll be giving all my money to Bhagwan John when I'm in town and will try to remember to add this one to the stack... He'll deal a little on price on big sales, plus he gives pretty good trade credit on stuff coming in... Carrite (talk) 14:38, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
Communist and SWP conventions
[edit]Hi, Dudeman,
I've been trying to clean up and elaborate United States presidential nominating conventions, and would like to add CP/WP and SWP conventions in the same format as I used for the Prohibitionists, SLP and SP. But what I've been able to scrape together so far just isn't sufficient. See User:Shakescene/conventions2#Communist, Workers' and Socialist Workers' Parties. One source I have (Tim Taylor's Book of Presidents, Arno Press 1972) actually gives opening dates for four of the earlier SWP nominating conventions, if they're any use to anyone, but I don't know where to get the essential cities for post-1960 SWP nominating conventions. It's also not clear from National conventions of the Communist Party USA which candidates were formally nominated by something one could reasonably compare to a presidential nominating convention, and which were named by the National Committee. Any help or pointers you have (or work you could do at the SWP or CPUSA Conventions articles) would be much appreciated. I'm sending User:Carrite a pointer to this thread, as it's a little hard to use a regular article talk page when discussing at least three different articles.
(By the way, I think I, under a different handle, have already talked with you at the Politics1 blog; if you haven't yet joined the SP History Yahoo! Group, I think you might learn, as well as be able to offer, some interesting stuff there.)

For purely practical reasons. I removed the article so I could put the category page under Christian denominations founded in the United States. I was trying to remove the head articles if there was already a sub-cat that could be be placed in the broader container. That was the precedent with most of the other churches. --Dudeman5685 (talk) 15:18, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I dont have anything against a unified list, but putting the type of regime that recognize the SADR is at least unbalanced compared with others. As long as the SADR is a unrecognized state at the same level that Palestine, Taiwan, Kosovo, etc... it had to receive THE SAME TREATMENT as the rest of states in that category. So, or remove the type of regime from the SADR page , or add it to the Palestine, Kosovo, Taiwan , etc... pages. No animosity, simply seeking for equanimity. Hi. I have been drafting a page (click on Atlantic) on the Atlantic Revolutions. There is a discussion underway here on my draft, and I was wondering if any of the sources listed on the current article are on Google Books. They would be of great use to us (anyone interested in contributing to the draft). You are extremely welcome to help, too! Thanks, DCItalk 02:52, 15 November 2011 (UTC)

Edit history of CP (Opposition)
[edit]Hi, Dudeman. I'm certainly no expert on moving pages (although Wikipedia has several help pages on how to do this), but, presuming that you'd set out a proper Request for Comment before moving Communist Party (Opposition) to Lovestoneites, you need to move the page history (and talk page history, if any), too. On a quick glance, there seem to be several hundred edits (beginning with your own) that need to be easily findable for reference. As I said, I'm no expert on Wikipedia:moving a page, but maybe you can get an experienced administrator to either give you tips or finish the job. Thanks. —— Shakescene (talk) 06:09, 2 March 2012 (UTC)

Your film lists
[edit]Hi,
In your absence, there has been a vacuum over at WWII films which I have been filling for a number of years for want of another volunteer.
You also created that distinct Holocaust list. (I have seen your note.)
What was your intention over the long term? How did you plan to prevent duplication across those two lists?
If WWII were not already gigantic, I would think merging the two pages would save trouble. Avoid quibbling over definitions.
I know you rarely visit this page, so my questions are rhetorical.

The article Association of Christian Democratic Students has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No independent references and no substantial claim of notability
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Deb (talk) 20:35, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Category move for Episcopal dioceses
[edit]Hi. I've reformatted the discussion you started at WP:CFD. (These things are tricky; I recall that it took me a very long time to get one formatted right!) I see that you've made significant progress on your manual move of the category, with the result that more than one-third of the category contents are now in the destination category. Please don't continue your manual-move project; let's discuss the category at CFD first. Not only does a bot move of a category save an enormous amount of work, but the whole process is far more orderly when it's done via CFD. It's important to discuss category moves because they can affect many category interrelationships that individual editors may not be aware of. Thanks! --Orlady (talk) 15:31, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Edit at Ho Chi Minh
[edit]I reverted your addition of the template fact to the External links section of Ho Chi Minh. Since the link exists, there is no policy on Wikipedia that requires any further citation. If you think the link is inappropriate, you can delete it and let the other editors concerned with that page decide how to proceed. Or, preferably, you can discuss you concerns on the article's talk page to reach a consensus on the inclusion of the link. Either way asking editors to provide a citation for an external link is not correct. — Bill W. (Talk) (Contrib) — 16:47, 31 May 2013 (UTC)

Hey Bellerophon5685
I'm sending you this because you've made quite a few edits to the template namespace in the past couple of months. If I've got this wrong, or if I haven't but you're not interested in my request, don't worry; this is the only notice I'm sending out on the subject :).
So, as you know (or should know - we sent out a centralnotice and several watchlist notices) we're planning to deploy the VisualEditor on Monday, 1 July, as the default editor. For those of us who prefer markup editing, fear not; we'll still be able to use the markup editor, which isn't going anywhere.
What's important here, though, is that the VisualEditor features an interactive template inspector; you click an icon on a template and it shows you the parameters, the contents of those fields, and human-readable parameter names, along with descriptions of what each parameter does. Personally, I find this pretty awesome, and from Monday it's going to be heavily used, since, as said, the VisualEditor will become the default.
The thing that generates the human-readable names and descriptions is a small JSON data structure, loaded through an extension called TemplateData. I'm reaching out to you in the hopes that you'd be willing and able to put some time into adding TemplateData to high-profile templates. It's pretty easy to understand (heck, if I can write it, anyone can) and you can find a guide here, along with a list of prominent templates, although I suspect we can all hazard a guess as to high-profile templates that would benefit from this. Hopefully you're willing to give it a try; the more TemplateData sections get added, the better the interface can be. If you run into any problems, drop a note on the Feedback page.
Thanks, Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 21:38, 28 June 2013 (UTC)

[edit]Scouting World Map
[edit]I realize their is room for criticism on the map, but could you have informed me on my talk page before unilaterally deleting it? It did take alot of time and, as you say, hard work, completing it. If the nomenclature is the main problem I can work that out editing the description. You obviously know more about this as an Eagle Scout, I only got to Webalo. I was mainly concerned with showing which countries had "regular" organizations in good standing with the WOSM and which countries, for what ever reason, were served by other countries' scout organizations, only had unofficial Scout groups or had no scouting at all.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 18:03, 14 July 2013 (UTC)
All right, what needs to be done with map? I know that the page distinguishes between "potential members", "countries with no Scouting", and "Other". Looking closer at the list and criteria, I realized that the "potential members" list was set up in 2008, and I couldn't really find any sources for it; likewise, I couldn't find much a difference between "countries with no Scouting" and "Other". I figured it would be best to create two classes for countries that did not have any WOSM representation - those with Scouting groups that are not members of WOSM - Central African Republic, Peoples Republic of China, Iraq, Afghanistan - and those where no Scout organizations are reported to exist - North Korea, Laos, Cuba, Burma. There was some difficulty in determining if there were scout groups in some of these areas - the evidence for Western Sahara and Somaliland is particularly sketchy - but I determined if there was RS for scouting of some kind in the areas they would be included in the first, lime green, cat.
As for the areas served by other countries Scout organizations, I concede that with all those little dots in the Caribbean, Oceania and Indian Ocean, it is difficult to determine if one dot is supposed to represent, for instance Reunion or Comoros, Norfolk Island or New Caledonia etc. Hopefully you can determine which dot represents what territory and we can establish the proper color code.
One territory I admittedly forgot was East Timor, so it will have to be colored in the correct color, which I think should be lime green.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 01:13, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I have just noticed this after reverting your addition of the map back into the article. The map is misleading. Countries join WOSM when there are several Scout organisation by them forming a committee which affiliates, or when there is a single organisation, that organisation affiliates. There is really no essential difference. In both situations there can be organisations that do not affiliate with WOSM, but might affiliate, for example, to the World Federation of Independent Scouts. So why do you distinguish the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, France and Denmark, for example, from all the ones you colour red. Also for France you say that the "Scouts et Guides de France" are the affiliating organisation. They are not. They joint several other organisations in forming Scoutisme Français, a committee that affiliates. Sorry, but the map is just wrong, but I encourage you to get it right and then it can be in the article. --Bduke (Discussion) 04:42, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think you misunderstand - red was merely supposed to symbolize that the countries has one or more regularly affiliated organizations. That could be a single group like the Boy Scouts of America, a federation of groups like in Israel, or two groups like in Canada. Like you say, there is no essential difference. USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, France and Denmark all serve their own countries as well as other states and or non-sovereign areas under their own governments. Ergo Denmark also serves Greenland and Faroe Islands, Australia serves Nauru, US serves Palau, Micronesia, Marshall Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, the UK serves a bunch of them. Anytime one group served more than one jurisdiction, I thought that it justified indicating that on the map. For "normal" jurisdictions that only served one country I just used red.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 04:59, 15 July 2013 (UTC)
- First, I agree that the discussion should be here, but you might care to provide a link at Talk:List of World Organization of the Scout Movement members. Second, let us have a link here to the map itself at File:WOSMMembers.svg.png so we know what we are talking about. OK, I did misunderstand you, but the map is still utterly confusing. The text on the image page says "Other areas are served by other National societies", but this focuses on the other areas, which are small and most are difficult to see on the map. The focus of the map shows yellow for the USA, blue for UK, green for France, purple for Australia, and orange for New Zealand. This is distinguishing them from all the countries in red in a quite inappropriate way. They are not really different. I strongly disagree that serving more than one jurisdiction justifies indicating them in different colours on the map. It is as I said utterly confusing. --Bduke (Discussion) 06:31, 15 July 2013 (UTC)

Preuss et al.
[edit]Your three authors of choice are atrocious, frankly. A book from 1899, another from 1925, and a mass-market book from 1997? You're basically retyping the books into Wikipedia, and you aren't really researching. When you don't know what the first side degree was, you don't really have enough knowledge to work in the topic. Case in point: you categorized several women's fraternal orders as side degrees, and they don't meet the definition at all, nor do you know if they are "humorous". My point is that you may have an interest in the area, but you don't have the depth of understanding needed to write an article about it properly, and not based wholly on the sources you used. For example, the requirement you cited for joining Shriners hasn't been in effect since 2000, but since your sources predated that, you didn't know, despite the fact that it is made clear in the Shriners article.
You did something similar in another article, using the same authors, and ended up with a lot of issues as a result: I've found several bias and categorization issues in your List of American ethnic and religious fraternal orders article as well, to the point where it should never have been accepted at AFC, and I'm seriously considering AfDing it as blatant copyvio. MSJapan (talk) 23:02, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- Actually, there aren't "women's appendent versions of side degrees." Appendant bodies and side degrees are interchangeable terms for the most part. However, there may be a level of recognition for an appendant body that may not be available to a side degree. It's also much more complicated for women's groups, because men can't officially join them in some cases, and are required in others. For example, Shriners has both a women's auxiliary within the local Centers (for wives who like to volunteer), and the Ladies Oriental Shrine and Daughters of the Nile outside of it as more formalized women's groups. Are they humorous, as the Shrine was intended to be? I don't know. So the definitions being used are problematic. The women cannot join Shriners directly, so neither of those two groups would be a side degree, nor are they necessarily appendant, because the membership doesn't overlap. MSJapan (talk) 23:44, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
- That format basically is similar to the Masonic bodies article, which avoids the hairsplitting that this list causes. If that's the case, the stuff might as well be merged in over there instead. MSJapan (talk) 00:25, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
- For the few lines that are in there otherwise, most of the main organizations already have pages. Might as well put it in there, I would think, if it isn't already. MSJapan (talk) 00:42, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

I've temporarily removed your comments from this AFD because you improperly inserted them in the middle of MSJapan's nomination, effectively destroying their comment for the sake of yours. As there's no way for me to fix the formatting without rewriting what you wrote, removing it was really the only solution, so you can go into the article history to extract what you want to repost below the nominator's comment. If you want to respond point by point, you'll have to use quotes (or the same numbers they used) in your response to highlight what specifically you're responding to. postdlf (talk) 01:31, 11 May 2015 (UTC)

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Derek Savage
[edit]Hey, just giving you a head's up. Please don't add any more information about Savage or his film to Wikipedia. The guy is sort of a drama magnet right now and most of the attempts to add him to Wikipedia are a result of people coming over to kind of extend the drama from the Encyclopedia Dramatica lolcow entry about him. (sighs) You were pretty neutral about everything so I think that you were editing in good faith, but be cautious about anything involving him, as there have been a lot of people that have edited the past article about CCStK that have come here with some definite bad intent. Any article about this guy or his film will be such a huge target for mischief that the article would require a lot of sourcing to show that it's really worth keeping on Wikipedia.
On a side note, there is something truly ironic about the whole situation. Guy makes a video about why it's wrong to bully others, then bullies a YouTuber because he posted an honest opinion and gets bullied himself by ED-ers as a result. Circle of life, eh? Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:48, 25 December 2015 (UTC) Derek Savage
I only learned of the incident after the fact. I go to IHE occasionally, so I didn't see any of the videos when they came out, but reviewed the situation when it was over. I am sure that many people will come to wikipedia looking for information on Savage, and the incident, but so far all I can find are blogs, youtube videos, imdb and material that Savage has put out himself. These are very hard to justify as RS, but if someone at a newspaper or perhaps a blog that is considered a "respectable" news source (most newspaper content is online only these days anyway, so the line is very thin), maybe an article could be created for Savage, his movie or the incident itself.

To be eligible for Fraternal membership, a fraternity must be national or international in character and shall charter its institutional chapters only at appropriately accredited colleges, universities, or professional schools. The fraternity shall be identified by, or related to a field of study or common interest. Member fraternities may also initiate members of other fraternities.

I am not sure
[edit]I can follow how a foreign language wikipedia project can be in the same project as books - reference works - any clues as to what I am missing?
There is nothing in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Reference_works that suggests that foreign language wikiprojects are in actual fact 'reference works' - as the way I read the project scope and aim.
Please dont get me wrong - there is already WikiProject Wikipedia for things about wikipedia.
The scope is the issue - and I am suggesting where you have tagged wikiprojects, it really should be wikiproject wikipedia
Then you are clear of the issue of claiming sister projects as 'reference works' ... cheers JarrahTree 06:05, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Edit summaries
[edit]Hello. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia.
When editing Wikipedia, there is a field labeled "Edit summary" below the main edit box. It looks like this:
Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)
Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.
Edit summary content is visible in:
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. I can see you have been around for a while, and I can also see it has been politely requested several times in the past. As it has been asked several times in the past, it seems quite appropriate to give you the full template notice which explains all of the reasons why it's useful and necessary. Please always give edit summaries, even for obvious or trivial changes. For example "+Authority control" would be sufficient and quite appropriate for your recent addition of that template to many articles, if that is the only change being made by the edit. Murph9000 (talk) 11:58, 19 May 2017 (UTC)
"Authority control" template
[edit]What does adding a blank "Authority control" template to an article do?
P.S. Time to archive your user talk page... AnonMoos (talk) 23:13, 20 May 2017 (UTC)
- I do understand that
Authority control
will emit some output once the appropriate values have been added to the articles' Wikidata items. I doubt that will ever happen for many of the articles where the template has been added in this recent spree. Further, how hard would be to place a simple remark into the edit summary, e.g. "+Authority control" – using the template's proper name instead of a redirect, authoritycontrol? As it is, this editing binge seems to have no purpose and only clutters watchlists. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 09:16, 21 May 2017 (UTC)- Additionally, these edits which only added that template should really have been marked as minor edits. Your lack of response to a reasonable request to provide edit summaries is of significant concern. If you don't want this to escalate into a formal incident, I strongly suggest that you respond to constructive feedback. Ignoring reasonable requests without a good reason and without response is quite often viewed as disruptive editing, which can also apply to bulk edits which have no immediate benefit to the encyclopedia and are not obviously supported by community consensus. Murph9000 (talk) 09:25, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
- I am trying to find out how to create wikidata entries about the pages I added ACs for. I didn't realize that just adding the templates whould create a problem and I am sorry that I clogged up your watchlists.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 20:11, 21 May 2017 (UTC)
I can see you are working hard and doing your best. For now it would be much appreciated if you could mark the changes as 'minor' which would alleviate the watchlist-clogging for everyone. Chiswick Chap (talk) 07:51, 22 May 2017 (UTC)
- Please don't add empty Authority control templates to random articles unless those articles actually have authority control IDs in Wikidata (or the article is a biography). Thank you. Kaldari (talk) 08:47, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
Why have you ignored multiple polite, reasonable, and informative requests to provide edit summaries (and to make proper use of the "minor edit" feature)? This goes far beyond the question of whether the edits are even necessary. Large volume bulk editing without proper edit summaries and failing to mark minor edits as minor is frequently considered to be disruptive editing, and people do get blocked for continuing this type of behaviour after multiple clear requests and warnings about it. Please consider this a warning. Thanks. Murph9000 (talk) 09:44, 29 May 2017 (UTC)
- You're still doing it: Kiss Me, Kate, The Taming of the Shrew (Shebalin), Troilus and Cressida (opera) – no edit summary, not marked as minor, pointless. Stop it. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:51, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
Wrong category at 70,000 Character Petition
[edit]Can you please explain what your motivation is in changing categories at 70,000 Character Petition?
You recently removed category 1962 works and added Category:1963 documents in this edit with no edit summary. You may have a perfectly good reason for this change, and I'd like to know what it is. Even though you're an editor with over ten years experience, you've just been advised, again, about using edit summaries. C'mon, do I really have to quote the guideline to you?
Here it is: It is considered good practice to provide a summary for every edit, especially when reverting (undoing) the actions of other editors or deleting existing text; otherwise, people may question your motives for the edit. Edits that do not have an edit summary are more likely to be reverted, because it may not be obvious what the purpose of the edit was. We can't read your mind, so please do use the edit summary to explain your motivation.
I reverted your change with the edit summary, "1962, not 3." Perhaps that was too brief a summary; what I meant was, "Reverted your edit, since the 70,000 Character Petition was written in 1962, not 1963." I hope that is clearer.
You reverted back to your preference, again with no edit summary at all. I'm going to revert you for a second time after I leave you this message, with a full edit summary along the lines of what I wrote above. Please do not change the categories at this article again without a full justification of your reasoning in the edit summary, or on the article talk page. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 00:17, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- I took the liberty of copying your response on my talk page here; see the banner at the top of the page about keeping convos in one place. If you strongly object to my having copied your response here, just delete the next paragraph with no TPO foul; thanks.
- At 01:16, 25 June 2017 (UTC), Bellerophon5685 said: I was merely trying to narrow the rather large miscellaneous year works, with year documents. I your edit because you had pointed out that I had put the document in the wrong year. However, it was still in "1962 works", I wanted to put it in "1962 documents". --Bellerophon5685 (talk) 01:16, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- Okay, that makes sense, so getting the year wrong was just an oversight, then. Go ahead and make your change again, but not with revert, cuz that will reinstall the wrong year again, but with a manual edit, and I won't touch it (assuming you get it right). Since we've been back and forth twice at the article about this, a really full and solid edit summary in your next edit will help others trying to understand how this got resolved, and avoid some 3rd party reverting you once again.
- Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 01:37, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, you were too quick on the draw, and made your change before reading the above. Your category change is fine, no reason to revert that. But once again, you left out the edit summary. I'd add it for you, but that would be mind-reading again, and anyone else looking at the history might think I was misrepresenting you. I'm sorry, but would you please go back and fix the edit summary? You probably know that you can't actually edit an old edit summary, so the way to do that, is with a dummy edit. Please go back to the article, and change at least one character: if there's a typo, fix it, and if there isn't, just add a space somewhere, or delete a space that isn't needed. For your edit summary, paste this (in your own words, if you don't like this phrasing:)
Dummy edit: Adding edit summary: Replaced :Category:1962 works with :Category:1962 documents (not '1963', my bad).
and save it. The article will remain identical, but you'll have your comment in the edit history justifying your change. As things stand now, someone might come by, assume you're edit-warring, and revert you again. Mathglot (talk) 01:52, 25 June 2017 (UTC)- Mathglot, this all seems like a tempest in a teapot. One character was wrong in what should be an obvious routine edit while sorting categories. You reverted it, replacing it with the correct year, but the broader cat that I was trying to narrow down. Eventually we discussed the issue and put it in the right category. Do you really think anyone reading the article cares about the minutia of this edit conflict?:) I think we should devote our time and energy to more pressing matters.--Bellerophon5685 (talk) 01:59, 25 June 2017 (UTC)
- Well, maybe it is that. But seeing as how you just wrote six sentences above explaining all about your disdain for the tempest, when you could have just written one sentence in the edit summary of the article instead, but chose not to, I guess you prefer your tempests in teapots. Mathglot (talk) 08:11, 2 July 2017 (UTC)

Typeface date categories
[edit]Hi, just seen that you've been trying to create these. I try to look after the font articles on Wikipedia, and I have to say that this seems like a bad idea to me. Font dating especially pre-WWI is plagued with incredibly unreliable dates, that can disagree by as much as three to four years, and I believe are often sourced to books in the twenties to fifties based on company records and archives that have now vanished. There's also a lot of confusion between dates on working drawings and the date of release. To be quite honest, I don't believe them and was in the process of stripping a lot of them out. You can see an example of this here, in a discussion I commented on. As Hardwig comments, "it is easy to find all kinds of dates, but they are rarely backed up." (Semplicità is an example - I've seen release dates from 1928 to 1931, none of them citing a contemporary news source.) Blythwood (talk) 04:33, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the comment. I'll think about which dates it's appropriate to keep. One problem, to be quite honest, is that "introduction" is often a mess with a font because metal type fonts were often released to valued customers or a private client first. Joanna was first used in the print shop of its designer Eric Gill only, then licensed to J.M. Dent for private use, then finally released to the public in 1958 - about 27 years after it was first made as metal type. So false precision can be a real problem. Blythwood (talk) 04:52, 8 July 2017 (UTC)
- Another example of why this is a problem, just to warn you - Albertus was designed beginning in 1932, but it wasn't introduced in 1932 - font production often took years from design submission to production in those days. In fact, it didn't reach an advance showing until 1935. Whoever introduced that category simply didn't bother to read the article or check any sources. I'm afraid the font articles contained a huge amount of false information like this which I haven't finished stripping out, sorry. Blythwood (talk) 22:08, 9 July 2017 (UTC)

Visaria/Visalia
[edit]I note that you made edits to the article about the fictional town Visaria which I think is the setting of some Wolfman movies although I am not seeing this explicitly in the wikipedia articles about them. I would like to mention that many years ago I was listening to one of the films and I heard a line mentioning the town while I was living in Visalia, CA. This blew me away but either I recalled that Curt Siodmak, who lived near there in Three Rivers, CA had spoken at my high school or later he would speak -- probably the former or I would have asked him about it. Anyway, it seems like too much of a coincidence that Siodmak, who definitely live nearby Visalia was not inspired to use a similar-sounding name for his fictional town. The only thing is, I am not sure if he lived there before the Wolfman flicks although of course he could have lived there or simply encountered the name before making the movies.--Jrm2007 (talk) 13:10, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

A page you started (Benjamin Fordyce Barker) has been reviewed!
[edit]Thanks for creating Benjamin Fordyce Barker.
I have just reviewed the page, as a part of our page curation process and note that:-
Please be cautious when copying and pasting large chunks of free material with a very clearly biased point of view. Wikipedia doesn't use "qv" either, just link those names. Thoughtless copy-and-pasting doesn't necessarily build a quality encyclopedia.

Authority control
[edit]Please use edit summaries. It really helps monitoring watchlists and article histories. Thanks. Renata (talk) 02:56, 11 January 2019 (UTC)
- I'm also wondering whether it wouldn't be easier to have a bot do this. And I also wonder about the use of this. I've seen you add it to dozens of articles on academic journals, cluttering up my watchlist, but that template doesn't actually seem to do anything on those articles. --Randykitty (talk) 18:42, 12 January 2019 (UTC)
SecondedThirded. If I see an edit headed only "External links" I have to go and check in case some ****** **** has spammed a link to their brand-new sales website. If it says "added Authority Control" I roll over and go back to sleep. Please use some consideration for the volunteer time of other editors, and please follow this basic and helpful guideline.
- I have no idea which tool you may be using, but it should be easy to add a standardised edit comment. If nothing else, once you have added "added Authority Control" once, you only have to type "a" in the summary box and the comment will pop up. Just a suggestion. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:22, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
- And I removed that template here where it did have an effect, but inserted a link to a music (!!) index that just had copied this very article. Wikidata imports that crap without any apparent oversight and puts it on our pages with this template. --Randykitty (talk) 08:49, 18 January 2019 (UTC)

- Hi, can you please respond to the above? Why are you adding this template to articles like this if it has no visible effect? What are we missing? If you are adding these empty templates preemptively (per this) and no one else has already asked, please desist until there is consensus that this is how the template should be handled. I see no reason to spam book articles with authority control with the hopes that someone will add DNB or something to populate it later. (I see little reason to add it to a book article even when DNB is specified...) Please form consensus before continuing to systematically add this template. czar 04:19, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

My erroneous revert
[edit]Sorry, about that. I intended to revert an IP edit on a completely different article; I'd navigated to another page to confirm I didn't misunderstand his edit, then erroneously flipped back to the Angels tab instead, and reverted your edit in error. I went to self-revert with apology, but you beat me to the revert; so here's the apology. TJRC (talk) 02:49, 17 January 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Please stop your disruptive editing.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, you may be blocked from editing. Please see discussion at Template talk:Authority control#Preemptive addition of template. Randykitty (talk) 10:34, 3 February 2019 (UTC)
You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Lennauchfilm. You are still adding authority control templates that have no discernable effect to articles, despite the long discussion telling you to first obtain consensus for these edits. The next time you do this, you will be blocked. Randykitty (talk) 10:42, 7 February 2019 (UTC)

British Encyclopedia
[edit]Hello. Are you happy for me to request an uncontroversial move of British Encyclopedia (disambiguation) to British Encyclopedia per WP:MALPLACED, and speedy deletion of British Encyclopedia (Disambiguation) (capital D) as a typo per WP:G6? Certes (talk) 15:24, 18 February 2019 (UTC)
- @Certes: Done. There is only one reference cited for British Encyclopaedia, which supports that spelling. However, the primary source, the encyclopedia itself, doesn't spell it that way. I don't think that article should move to British Encyclopedia though as that doesn't clearly distinguish this one from other similarly-titled encyclopedias and I don't feel that any could be considered to be WP:primary topic for the term. I'm considering a move of British Encyclopaedia to either The British Encyclopedia or Dictionary of Arts and Sciences or British Encyclopedia or Dictionary of Arts and Sciences. Not sure whether "The" should be part of the title (see WP:THE). – wbm1058 (talk) 18:08, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you. A quick look for sources shows the "British Encyclopedia..." rather than "The British Encyclopedia...", so my kneejerk reaction is that you're right to omit "The" from the article title, but I'm not a subject expert. Certes (talk) 18:27, 19 February 2019 (UTC)
- OK, I moved it to British Encyclopedia, or Dictionary of Arts and Sciences (with a comma, which I neglected to include in my suggestions above). I took the lack of response from Bellerophon5685 as no objection to the move. wbm1058 (talk) 14:48, 20 February 2019 (UTC)

[edit]There are many tycoons facilities not listed here. Why? CADDI ( child and adolescent development Inc.) Was 3 3 story buildings in the heart of 3rd ward owned by Grady who was in politics, racist, and very abusive. I stayed there. There were also kids on probation and regular Cps kids. Most teens in 90'swere put in tyc if they had no family to go to. On my 23rd time running away( I was an honor student in school never any trouble n taught Sunday school without family attending, dad was an atheist, racist, abusive drunk, mom wrote me check for 50 bucks food. Joint account, my scared of dad n I got forgery. Crazy. I don't remember having a lawyer. I said do whatever u have to do so I don't go home. Thought it'd be better. I was wrong. Left in addict in middle of summer no air w a yeast infection bladder infection to top. There was never anyone to complain too. A lady came like a ttc caseworker but we were never allowed alone w her. Owner had us passing out campaign flyers. Gang members hired as staff. They had sex w clients, cops were called for gang fights, Cps girls broke bones. Think the abuse on cos girls got it closes down finally. Tyc kids never had anyone. I chose to go to tuck bc they told teens it pays for college. My probation officer Becky basham didn't know what tyc was. There needs to be a real listing of what happens. Kids were told we had NO rights. I was choked, bullied, hit on, and always talked down to especially bc I was white, smart, and most kids there were a bit younger n couldn't read. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discussion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. The article The Adventures of Superboy has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Current sources are not reliable. As the show never finished production, it is unlikely that any reliable sources exist
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Usage in camouflage articles and notability
[edit]Howdy,
I’d like your take on describing the usage of various military camouflage patterns on their respective articles. I’ve always been under the impression that in the interests of summarization, we should restrict this sort of descriptions to b) national armies, and b) major political-military factions involved in an armed conflict. Personally, I don’t believe that we need to describe the use of these patterns by every last private non-state actor and entity but wanted more opinions on this. What are your thoughts? If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and removing the speedy deletion tag. Liz Read! Talk! 04:53, 24 December 2023 (UTC)

The article D-Day -1 has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Unsourced since 2007, a BEFORE check found nothing.
QuicoleJR (talk) 23:20, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello and hello@QuicoleJR
- I redirected the page. Feel free to change that if you think I made a mistake. Best, -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 11:32, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Reverted. Once a PROD has been added to an article, you should usually wait the full week before redirecting the article. Also, for future reference, you need to remove all of the content of an article when you make it a redirect. QuicoleJR (talk) 20:52, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello again to you too,
- this one week delay practice that you refer to would be based on what, if I may ask?
- And I intentionally sometimes leave part of the content of deproded pages I redirect so that it can be more easily checked by others. But thank you for your input. Should you wish to discuss this further, I suggest you go to the article TP or at least elsewhere. Thank you -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 21:34, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- PROD is designed to wait one week before deleting or redirecting, according to WP:PROD. QuicoleJR (talk) 22:08, 10 January 2024 (UTC)

August 2024 - Edit Summaries Needed
[edit] Hello Bellerophon5685 /Jonathan. I'm Quaerens-veritatem. Looking at some of your numerous edits, I was surprised that you usually don't provide edit summaries. While running up the number of edits, it doesn't take long to add summaries. Way back in February 2012 and December 2013 you were asked to provide
edit summaries.
According to Wikipedia's consensus policy, all edits should be explained —either by clear edit summaries, or by discussion on the associated talk page.
Please provide a summary of every edit you make. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history. Summaries help other editors by (a) providing a reason for the edit, (b) saving the time to open up the edit to find out what it's all about, and (c) providing information about the edit on diff pages and lists of changes (such as page histories and watchlists). Edit summary content is visible in:
- User contributions
- Recent changes
- Watchlists
- Revision differences
- IRC channels
- Related changes
- New pages list
- Article editing history
Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit and a summary of what the edit changes. You can give yourself a reminder to add an edit summary
by setting Preferences → Editing → Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary.
If the edit is minor, the "This is a minor edit" box can be checked. See, Help:Minor_edit. A good rule of thumb is that only edits consisting solely of spelling corrections, formatting changes, or rearrangement of text without modification of the content may be flagged as minor edits.
Many who are ignorant of the Wikipedia policy on edit summaries fail to add them. Some ignore this basic brief task; however, failure seems arrogant and inconsiderate specially since summaries are so easy to add. Thank you for your consideration. Quaerens-veritatem (talk) 03:33, 14 August 2024 (UTC)
The article Bible translations into Indo-European languages has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Complete WP:SYNTH that fails WP:GNG. Not useful as navigation or a split since this page is an orphan.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
