Battle of Fayetteville

[edit]

@Onegreatjoke: For the title change to Battle of Fayetteville (1862) from Battle of Fayetteville (1862 Western Virginia), I do not have any strong objections to the change, and I understand consistency in title format is important. The battle in Arkansas was in 1863, so it is titled Battle of Fayetteville (1863). That being said, I believe having the state in the name when there have been battles with similar names is helpful to the user—and Wikipedia is for the user. As information, there was some fighting 7 miles from of Fayetteville, Virginia, in 1861, at a place called Cotton Hill. There was also some fighting at Fayetteville, West Virginia (Western Virginia at the time), in 1863—see the external link to the battle of Fayetteville Historical Marker at the bottom of the 1862 article. It is easier to remember the location of a battle than the date. I suspect that in the case of searches for the Battle of Fayetteville, users are now going to have to go to the Wikipedia page to find out if they have the correct battle. If they want to know about the small battle in Western Virginia in 1863, they will only find the Arkansas page. Just my opinion.... What's done is done, and I don't think it is worth reversing, but I wish you would have consulted me before making the change. Have you joined WikiProject Military history? DYKs

[edit]

Hi -- I've had a couple of DYK notifications, and it looks like it's because you're including me as one of the people who improved the article when you do the nomination since I was the GA reviewer. I appreciate the thought, but generally speaking I would prefer not to be included -- I often make no changes to the article at all when I do a GA review and I feel I should not share the credit when the nominator has done 99% of the work. Thanks for the inclusivity, though. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 00:45, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Delisting an article

[edit]

Hi @Onegreatjoke,

I noticed a while back that you delisted David Carradine from the good article list. I totally agree. When I got serious with Wikipedia I looked up to good articles as a model to construct a page, not knowing there was such a thing as "Featured articles".

Anyways one of these article was Dolph Lundgren. Which was vastly intricate to the point that in his lede it was mentionned that he worked 4 times with a character actor named Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, that one of Quentin Tarantino's early credit was in a project starring Lundgren, and a full on description of the family life of a composer in a film where he co-stars.

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dolph_Lundgren&diff=prev&oldid=1035655847

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dolph_Lundgren&diff=prev&oldid=1049597807

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dolph_Lundgren&diff=prev&oldid=975716123

Lundgren's page seen too intricate, as was a bad model to follow for me. I am wondering if you could evaluate it. Filmman3000 (talk) 22:49, 16 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Onegreatjoke, there was an issue with your review here that needs to be addressed: the hook you're approving doesn't appear on the nomination page, which it must do, and it needs to be properly formatted including bold link to the article, ellipsis, proper spacing, etc., which it doesn't. Promoters need an actual hook, formatted as it is to appear on the main page, to work with; as reviewer, it's up to you to make sure the hook is accurate and fully ready for the main page before you approve it. I've superseded your approval to prevent promotion of the original hook (which also didn't have the required bold link) while this is waiting to fixed. Thanks. DYK nomination of John Ogilby

[edit]

Given my appalling error with the first hook, would it be more confidence-building were I to ley you have an image of the cited pages? For the GAR, I did this for Vanamonde93 and I guess that they would be willing to facilitate two more images. BTW, really annoyingly, this citation almost supports the original hook:

  • Nickbritten (23 October 2009). "England's oldest map goes on sale". The Telegraph. London. The work also represents the first time in England when an atlas was prepared on a uniform scale, at one inch to a mile, based on the statute of 1,760 yards to the mile. It was the earliest national road atlas of any country in Western Europe ...

s. 54

[edit]

Hi Onegreatjoke, the cite is already there. It takes you to s. 54 in the annotated consolidation by the federal Department of Justice, and there are no footnotes to s. 54; that means it's not been amended. Compare to other sections like s. 51, which have footnotes showing the amendments. The absence of a footnote in the annotated consolidation is proof that there's not been an amendment. In my view, that annotated consolidation is a secondary source. Mr Serjeant Buzfuz (talk) 01:57, 8 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
