Enola Holmes

I saw your comment on the DYK review noting your concerns about copyright but i wasn't sure how to respond without risking messing with the format of that review, so I reply here instead. https://copyvios.toolforge.org/?lang=en&project=wikipedia&title=Enola+Holmes+%28film%29&oldid=&action=search&use_engine=1&use_links=1&turnitin=0

I can tell you that from the oddities of my writing and word choices ("nincompoop") and from my familiarity with the many iterations of the Enola Holmes film article that other page is a 99% copyright* violation of an older version of the article with a very brief recommendation added at the end (*unless I've somehow badly misunderstood the attribution requirements of GFDL). I'd guess it is naive reuse by someone who doesn't understand much about copyright. Hope that helps. -- 109.78.195.175 (talk) 21:07, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

Opening some GARs as individual GARs?

Hello! I see you've been opening many community reassessments. Great to see so much passion about this. There are loads of articles that need reassessment. I was wondering if you've considered opening some of them as individual reassessments? When it's clear they are far away from the GA expectations, this is a better route, as it requires less community time. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 20:28, 7 January 2023 (UTC)

Alright. ill do some individual ones. Onegreatjoke (talk) 20:30, 7 January 2023 (UTC)
Proposals to merge individual GARs into community GARs seem to be gathering support at WP:GAPD23. I think that continuing to put out community GARs would be good; although it creates a large immediate backlog, there are a lot of eyes on that page at the moment, which will help. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 23:43, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

I wanted to thank you for your quick review of my DYK nomination. It's my first encounter with this project, hence I decided to do a QPQ as well to get familiar with the review procedure for the future.

I'd like to ask how the next steps will look like. I guess, it's another user who has to suggest the nomination for the main page, right? How/when will I be informed about the progress and possible date of display on the main page? Thank you very much in advance. Best wishes Henni147 (talk) 10:33, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

@Henni147: What happens after approval is that a promoter must determine if my approval was correct. If they do, your hook will be promoted and sent to a prep area, where that then gets approve by someone who does queues. You don't get notified when they do promote your hook so you just have to check. Onegreatjoke (talk) 22:02, 12 January 2023 (UTC)
Thank you very much for the info! Where can I follow the approval/promotion/preparation procedure best? Are there separate pages for each step? Henni147 (talk) 08:17, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
There are. There's WP:DYKNA where approved nominations go to and T:DYK/Q where promoted go to and wait in the queue. Onegreatjoke (talk) 14:47, 13 January 2023 (UTC)

I had retired from editing Wikipeia about 7 years ago but I am back to editing from early this month. You may kindly review and if satisfied remove the resseeement tag for this GA on the talk page. Thanks. Nvvchar. 06:11, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Unfortunately after we (Me and Dr. Blofeld) improved the Chambal article to GA status in 2010 there have been extensive editing without references by other Users which has made the artcile a mess, particularly the Music section.I don't think I would like to improve it now back to GA stage. GAR template

Hi Onegreatjoke, what GAR template are you using to notify Wikiprojects? It mentions community reassessment, so should probably be edited to just "reassessment" to reflect the recent merger of GARs. CMD (talk) 02:07, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

@Chipmunkdavis: I use this "subst:GARMessage|ArticleName|GARpage=n" that's publicly available on the GAR Reassessment page. Onegreatjoke (talk) 02:11, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks, I removed the relevant bit of coding. Seemed a simple solution. CMD (talk) 03:30, 21 January 2023 (UTC)

GARs

I have some concerns with the number of GARs you are initiating with apparently minimal review. Two minutes between Aarhus and Arbroath with copied and pasted rationales? No itemised lists of required corrections? Catfish Jim and the soapdish 23:14, 22 January 2023 (UTC)

@Catfish Jim and the soapdish: I understand your concerns. I'm not doing minimal review as I do look over the article to check for possible citation issues before nominating. However, I do agree that my description of my GAR noms are definitely lacking so I'll try to expand them more in future noms. Onegreatjoke (talk) 23:16, 22 January 2023 (UTC)
If you only see minor issues with articles Onegreatjoke, just need references, consider simply alerting the article writers. Only proceed to GAR if you see major issues in which you think the articles can't be sorted out quickly and intend conducting a full re-review. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:48, 26 January 2023 (UTC)

Good article reassessment script

Did you know there exists a user script to speed up GA reassessment nominations (User:SD0001/GAR-helper)? Makes it much easier to nominate articles :). Femke (alt) (talk) 13:46, 1 February 2023 (UTC)

I wish but I don't know how to use scripts so I haven't been able to use that. Onegreatjoke (talk) 16:15, 1 February 2023 (UTC)
You can add the scripts in two ways.
  1. (Easiest) In your preferences, go to Preferences → Gadgets. At the bottom of the "Advanced" section, click the "Install scripts without having to edit your JavaScript files" checkbox, then click the "Save" button. Then go to User:SD0001/GAR-helper and click install
  2. Create your common.js page and only add the following line:
    importScript('User:SD0001/GAR-helper.js'); // [[User:SD0001/GAR-helper.js]]

Let me know if you still struggle. —Femke 🐦 (talk) 08:43, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
@Femke: I've done the download but how do you use the script? Onegreatjoke (talk) 23:06, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
It depends on the WP:skin you use. If you use the new skin, there should now be a GAR button in the tools menu on the right. If you use the old skin, it'll be under the more heading on the top of your screen (so next to page). —Femke 🐦 (talk) 08:35, 5 February 2023 (UTC)

Pity the few biochemists

Hi Onegreatjoke, I just wanted to reach out personally since my post at GAR is indirectly about GARs you opened but doesn't mention you by username. I'm glad to see GAR is coming back to life, and I shudder to think how many current GAs no longer meet the GA criteria. I appreciate that you're taking on this challenging task. When faced with a giant backlog, I can understand the desire to take big swings at it. But if the goal is to get these articles up-to-standard, the job may necessarily be slow. If you could slow down on some of the new GARs, that would help us catch our breath. If I could suggest a strategy, perhaps consider WhatamIdoing's approach at WT:MED. She posted five FAs that need FARs, and initiated discussion with the group as to which ones we can work on, and on what kind of timeline. Sadly, in my particular topic of interest (biochemistry) there are just so few interested editors, that I can't promise slowing down will gain us extra GAR saves. But I can promise that if you continue posting new biochemistry GARs almost daily, the few of us left will be overwhelmed and won't be able to save any of them.

Thanks for all you do, and I hope this message finds you well. All the best, Ajpolino (talk) 05:18, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

DYK for Constantine II of Greece

I noticed that you said here that Constantine II of Greece can't be nominated for Did You Know as it was In The News lately. Do you mind explaining what you meant (sorry, I am new to DYK and I think there is a rule I am missing). Thanks! - Therealscorp1an (talk) 22:09, 17 March 2023 (UTC)

@Therealscorp1an: per the rules "An article is ineligible for DYK if it has previously appeared on the main page as bold link at DYK. It is also ineligible if it has, within the year prior to nomination, appeared as a boldlink In the news (ITN) or in the prose section of Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries (OTD), or as Today's featured article. Bolded names with dates listed at the bottom of OTD are not disqualified, nor are names listed in "Recent deaths" section of ITN." and the article appeared as a bold link this year on ITN. Onegreatjoke (talk) 02:14, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
But that was before it was improved to WP:GA? 〜Festucalextalkcontribs 02:46, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
It becoming a GA doesn't change the situation. The rule still applies. Onegreatjoke (talk) 03:01, 18 March 2023 (UTC)
