Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello Insight 3! While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 12:29, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Whpq and thanks for guiding me. As you can see I am new here and without images, the wiki pages look like a desert to me, so I couldn't resist to find ways to upload images legitimately. But now I do get what you are talking about and will keep it mind for the future. As for the contents, I think I quite understand the policy and try my best to properly paraphrase the sources. If you could point out where I was casual, then I will be more than obliged. Thanks again! Insight 3 (talk) 14:22, 12 September 2021 (UTC)
- The above note is general guidance on copyright. The reason I posted this to your talk page was because of image copyright. -- Whpq (talk) 14:52, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Editing Pakistani films
[edit]As a fellow editor, I am sharing some info with you here. In 2021, Cineplot.com went dead on us as well as Complete Index To World Film (C.I.T.W.F.) website. These were 2 reliable film websites that I used to rely on a lot. Now I try to use Pakistani newspapers as References as you do also. I just finished editing Dillagi that you created this year. I am sure you already know by now what I am going to say next? Red Wikipedia links attract unwanted attention from the Wikipedia Robot Checkers which I certainly don't want. So I often use the WIKIPEDIA SEARCH BOX on TOP, while still editing an article, to check the article title's CORRECT SPELLING TO AVOID GETTING RED LINKS later. For Example, if we start typing Mujeeb Alam in the Top Search Box, the fold-down list of Existing Wikipedia articles with that name will automatically SUGGEST to use Aalam as the correct spelling with two AAs. Best Regards Ngrewal1 (talk) 21:53, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
- I already Moved page Mujeeb Alam to the correct spellings we are all used to and which is how his name is spelled in most newspapers of Pakistan. I don't know why someone had spelled it with 2 AAs to begin with. Thanks...Ngrewal1 (talk) 00:53, 20 December 2021 (UTC)
- I have never found Cineplot.com active, so I'm using Pakistan Film Magazine instead. I also get irritated with usual names and spellings in articles' titles and have moved some articles like Hakim Said, Aalamgir Haq, etc. Thanks very much for your info, hope you will continue sharing such valuable feedback. Insight 3 (talk) 06:05, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Just some info
[edit]My Salaams. Thought I would share some info with you. Pakistan Today newspaper's existing references had been going dead on me for some months now. Of course I was concerned, guessing to myself that since the owner and veteran editor Arif Nizami had also died recently, my concern was that the newspaper might also fold eventually. To my pleasant surprise, I guess his son Babur Nizami is starting to change the articles' url paths to Archived url paths and the OLD URLs are automatically REDIRECTED to the NEW ARCHIVED URLs. It's your choice what you want to do in future with them. I myself COPY/PASTE the new ARCHIVED URL with the word 'archive' in it, when editing Wikipedia now. Ngrewal1 (talk) 00:09, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- @Ngrewal1 Thanks, it is useful info. I have also an issue. I want to move the page Munawar Sultana to Munawar Sultana (actress) to disambiguate it from Munawar Sultana (singer) but I am unable to do that. Someone moved it before without leaving a redirect. Can you do that? Insight 3 (talk) 05:14, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- As far as I understand Wikipedia policy, it's not needed. You created Munawar Sultana (singer) and the other actress Munawar Sultana article has been there for some years. They already are differentiated. Ngrewal1 (talk) 17:18, 1 February 2022 (UTC)
- Ok thanks. Please keep guiding me. Insight 3 (talk) 05:29, 2 February 2022 (UTC)

Help for Enhancing articles
[edit]I have seen your articles, you have written very well. Your articles are mostly in the Start and Stub categories. My article is mostly in the un-known category so please guide and help me about it. I am waiting . Thank! Zimi09 (talk) 17:42, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your appreciation! As far as I have understood the assessment process, it is quite a subjective thing. According to some any article haveing less than 500 words should be assessed as "stub". I personally see when a subject lacks basic info (DOB, early life, etc), as your article Sajad Gul does, to create a proper infobox, then I declare it as stub. But you should keep asking other editors too.Insight 3 (talk) 03:00, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Will you help me for improving my articles?
I shall be very grateful to you. Thanks Zimi09 (talk) 11:24, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sure, I will.Insight 3 (talk) 11:50, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! I hope I get to learn a lot from you.
So where and how do we have to start? Zimi09 (talk) 12:23, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- The best way of learning is to keep creating new articles and let me know where you need advise.Insight 3 (talk) 14:59, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- I agree with you and am creating new articles as well as improving the previous ones. Along creating more articles, I have to work harder on the previous articles so that they can get out of un-known category. Zimi09 (talk) 15:37, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Take a look at my article and talk to me about the mistakes I've made, so that we can fix those mistakes together. Zimi09 (talk) 15:43, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- "Unknown" category is no issue. While creating talk page of an article, use templates to assess it as stub or start. See your article Sajad Gul's talk page, I did it there, just change the titles and copy/paste those templates to all of your articles.Insight 3 (talk) 16:11, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! Zimi09 (talk) 09:10, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Film sources
[edit]Hi, I saw your message on WP:TEAHOUSE. Which film are you referring to? I have a newspapers.com account and used it to find sources for my article on the film The Brothers O'Toole; if you look, half of the sources are clippings from newspapers.com. I can see what can be found for the 1978 film you're interested in. ~Anachronist (talk) 16:07, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi Anachronist , thanks very much for your offer to help! But this is an Urdu film I am referring to and unfortunately old non-English newspapers have not been digitized like English newspapers. Thanks again! Insight 3 (talk) 16:31, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- NewspaperArchive (which is also accessible to me) has newspapers in many languages, but unfortunately nothing from Pakistan. ~Anachronist (talk) 16:48, 13 July 2022 (UTC)
- Yes its challenging but thanks anyway! Insight 3 (talk) 17:12, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Guddu (film archivist)
[edit]Hello Insight 3,
I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Guddu (film archivist) for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.
If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.
You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The article Sargent (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Appears to fail WP:NFILM No reviews cited or found in a BEFORE.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DonaldD23 talk to me 00:17, 17 December 2022 (UTC)
Sargent (film) moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Sargent (film), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three, and there is currently one. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 11:11, 20 December 2022 (UTC)

Regarding Abdus Salam (newscaster)'s award year
[edit]User:Insight 3... Hope you are doing well. Wanted to first ask you about his Pride of Performance award year info, since you are the article creator. To stay consistent, we are all trying to follow Wikipedia guidelines and the past practices regarding Pakistani articles on Wikipedia. To the best of my knowledge, his award was announced on 14 August 1993 (awarded posthumously according to your source Tareekh-e-Pakistan, and by the way that's the only source that mentions any date for the award, not even Dawn newspaper source mentions it). By now, you already know that I have read your created article? As we all know, Pakistani PP awards are announced on our Independence Day and then actually awarded on Youm-e-Pakistan (Pakistan Day - 23 March the next year). This should make 1994 the actual year that he received the award? I am making all this effort so we all STAY CONSISTENT on Wikipedia. I am trying to work with you as a team and consult with you first before making any changes on my own. Please REPLY here on your Talk page. My sincere thanks for all your work on Wikipedia. Ngrewal1 (talk) 00:17, 4 January 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for your input User:Ngrewal1, I think it was an award for the year 1993, that's why it was already mentioned under the 1993 awards. The announcement year should be considered the award year, not the ceremony year. Also, we have no source anyway to tell who on the behalf of the deceased newscaster received the award in March 1994. Sargent (film)/Pakistani sources
[edit]Hello,
In a recent Afd, (which was closed, hence my reply here), you comment on my !vote as follows:You seem to have very poor knowledge of Pakistani sources. See WP:PKRS for reliable and unreliable sources.
My reply to your very harsh remark is: Sorry, what? The page you kindly directed me to mentions the Daily Jang as generally reliable. But by all means, use your extremely great knowledge (or shall I say omniscience?) of Pakistani sources to improve the page.— MY, OH MY! (mushy yank) — 19:32, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
My apologies for this angry outburst, I realise that your comment was not about my !vote but about the nomination. Very sorry.— MY, OH MY! (mushy yank) — 19:36, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
- Glad that you realized sooner. Happy editing! Insight 3 (talk) 03:10, 17 June 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially-designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
- Additionally WP:ARBBLP may also apply. Discussing at the article talk page as per WP:DR is most preferable way for sorting out content related disagreement. The good thing you seem to be already at the article talk page. This intimation is just to keep you informed so that will help you to avoid heat of moment situations and help follow Wikipedia policies as applicable. Wish you happy editing. Cheers. OLI 19:32, 29 August 2023 (UTC)Stephen Ogweno moved to draftspace
[edit]Thanks for your contributions to Stephen Ogweno. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it needs more sources to establish notability and Nothing in this draft says that the subject is other than a WP:ROTM health professional. I have moved it back to Draft in order to give the creator and interested parties the chance to work on it in peace and quiet, rather than be subjected to the rigours of WP:AFD. Your article is now a draft where you can improve it undisturbed for a while.
Please see more information at Help:Unreviewed new page. When the article is ready for publication, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 08:08, 4 September 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Note that multiple accounts are allowed, but not for illegitimate reasons, and any contributions made while evading blocks or bans may be reverted or deleted.
If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you should review the guide to appealing blocks, and then appeal your block by adding the following text below this notice:
{{unblock|Your reason here ~~~~}}
. Note that anything you post in your unblock request will be public, so you may alternatively use the Unblock Ticket Request System to submit an appeal if it contains information that must be private.Administrators: Checkusers have access to confidential system logs not accessible by the public or by administrators due to the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy. You must not loosen or remove this block, or issue an IP block exemption, without consulting with a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee. Administrators who undo checkuser blocks without permission from a checkuser or the Arbitration Committee may be summarily desysopped.
Unblock
[edit]Insight 3 (block log • active blocks • global blocks • contribs • deleted contribs • filter log • creation log • change block settings • unblock • checkuser (log))
Request reason:
Okay, I made a mistake of creating other account and edited pages that I had edited previously from this account, but my intentions were not bad, neither my edits were abusive. Looking at my contributions, I think I deserve a second chance. I promise not to make any other mistake again.Insight 3 (talk) 11:47 am, 6 November 2023, last Monday (3 days ago) (UTC+1)
Decline reason:
You intentionally abused multiple accounts, that is not a "mistake". Your only option is to take the WP:Standard offer. Otherwise, you can appeal directly to the WP:ARBCOM since this is a Checkuser block. Vanjagenije (talk) 23:49, 8 November 2023 (UTC)
If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.
