Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team

Not the box I expected to open

Still, finding a long standing UPE editor would be a decent outcome, if it happens. 🇺🇦 FiddleTimtrent FaddleTalk to me 🇺🇦 13:23, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Likely editor for hire with previous accounts, possible CheckUser needed

[edit]

Hi Girth Summit. Editor User:Dean Twaks's original user page, which was essentially a sales pitch for paid editing services as a "content creator". Despite the account being brand new, the editor claimed to have built up editing expertise "over the years" working for a "range of clients". They have since denied having any other accounts (and that they misspoke about promo editing). Is there a way to request a CheckUser without an SPI? It would be hard to file one without knowing any suspected socks or previous accounts. Best, GPL93 (talk) 21:21, 1 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) I've blocked. A CU to find their other accounts might indeed be a good idea. Bishonen | tålk 22:01, 1 November 2024 (UTC).[reply]
Nothing to see I'm afraid - they were using a proxy with no other recent activity. Girth Summit (blether) 11:55, 2 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

SPI collateral damage?

[edit]

It appears you recently deleted Ben Adams (police commissioner) with the explanation G5: Created by a banned or blocked user (DotCoder) in violation of ban or block. I gather a page should have "no substantial edits by others" for G5 to apply. I'm unable to view the page history or see the latest revision before it was deleted, but from memory I created the page and/or contributed significantly to its content along with other editors. It had been accepted into mainspace after undergoing improvements as a draft. Please could you review what has happened to this page, and ideally undelete it if appropriate? Thanks, AJP (talk) 10:59, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I think I was probably a bit hasty with the deletion - I thought all the edits to it were just gnoming, but your edits were in fact quite substantive, so I've gone ahead and undeleted it. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Girth Summit (blether) 18:40, 3 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I'm thinking Somen2828 (talk · contribs) is a sock of Shikhasinghpapneja (talk · contribs), who you blocked recently, judging by the edits. Seasider53 (talk) 10:28, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Sure looks that way doesn't it. Technically only  Possible, based on geolocation, but behaviour is pretty obvious. Girth Summit (blether) 10:46, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you for your contributions. This sock user keeps popping up, I note you blocked the account User:Darius Bowman last time. I suspect that a CheckUser of User:John Sam Dean Winchester will confirm that this is also a sockpuppet. The pattern of adding dubious/false information to Canadian transit articles is evident, IYKYK, but sometimes I can't come up with good "diff" examples. Would appreciate your help in blocking this user. 162 etc. (talk) 17:40, 12 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't understand why Saqib got blocked ? by --Sunuraju (talk) 09:27, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Saqib has been blocked by WP:ArbCom. I don't know the reasons behind the block - my guess is that it involved confidential evidence that can't be posted onwiki, but that is literally a guess - I know nothing about the situation.
You didn't respond to my last question on your talk page. You have been editing for 14 years, and have made about 27,000 contributions. You've written loads of articles. How is it that you were posting on the talk page of a one week old account (which turned out to be a sock), asking them about making drafts? I'm not accusing you of anything, I just can't understand what was going on there. Girth Summit (blether) 10:53, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Not defending this editor GS but they also asked the same at my Talk and Izno's so I think it's less sock and more CIR. The asking randomly about Saqib to multiple disparate editors though doesn't help with the sniff test though, which I raised at SPI. Star Mississippi 23:25, 15 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
i didnt know that i talked to one of sock accounts by asking allowed by add drafts of pasktiani dramas, i had grammar issues, i do have misktakes in pasts, yes i add indian movies and korean dramas and actors during 2010s include Ha Jung Woo during my 14 tenue in Wikipedia. Sunuraju (talk) 01:47, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I saw you deleted Udne Ki Aasha under the G5 criterion. This article has been deleted a few times before for the same reason, but it is currently at AfC. I was thinking of accepting it now, but before I do, I just wanted to check if there are any issues. – DreamRimmer (talk) 15:33, 16 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. That draft was also created by the same (presumably UPE) sockfarm. I've deleted it. Girth Summit (blether) 14:59, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom 2024 Elections voter message

[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2024 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 2 December 2024. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2024 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:17, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
