Lead Section Size

The lead section of a Wikipedia article is the section before the first heading. The table of contents, if displayed, generally appears between the lead section and the first subheading.

Rule of thumb: If a topic deserves a heading or subheading, then it deserves short mention in the lead.

The lead section should contain up to four paragraphs, depending on the length of the article, and should provide a preview of the main points the article will make, summarizing the primary reasons the subject matter is interesting or notable. The lead should be capable of standing alone as a concise overview of the article, should be written in a clear and accessible style, should be carefully sourced like the rest of the text, and should encourage the reader to want to read more. The following table has some general guidelines for the length of the lead section:

< 15,000 characters medium size > 30,000 characters
one or two paragraphs   two or three paragraphs   three or four paragraphs

Speedy deletion nomination of Noorin Shereef

[edit]

Hello, Zimi09,

Welcome to Wikipedia! I edit here too, under the username TheWikiholic and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I have tagged an article that you started, Noorin Shereef, for deletion, because a consensus decision previously decided that it wasn't suitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia. If you wish to restore a page deleted via a deletion discussion, please use the deletion review process instead, rather than reposting the content of the page.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top. If the page is already deleted by the time you come across this message and you wish to retrieve the deleted material, please contact the deleting administrator.

For any further query, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|TheWikiholic}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

Message delivered via the Page Curation tool, on behalf of the reviewer.

Dil Awaiz (2022 TV series) moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Dil Awaiz (2022 TV series), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Control copyright icon Hello Zimi09! Your additions to Draft:Meray Humnasheen (TV series) have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Such a release must be done in a verifiable manner, so that the authority of the person purporting to release the copyright is evidenced. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. Your edit here [1] was a copy-paste from the source. You cannot do that on Wikipedia, you must summarize what's in the source, completely in your own words. Don't just change a word or two - that's called close paraphrasing and is not acceptable here. You must summarized / rewrite in your own words. Thank you. Ravensfire (talk) 20:17, 31 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

An article you recently created, Quaid-e-Azam Zindabad, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. The "independent" bit is important; press releases are not independent and do not show notability. In addition, if a press release has been published in several newspapers or online news portals, it is still only one source.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Blue World City requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company, corporation or organization that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. This article will be notable once the film is released. WP:NFF covers what's needed for unreleased films, and right now the level of coverage that's needed isn't there. You can see in the edit history that several of the articles used as references were just copies of an article from another publication. Please double-check when you add references, you can't just use a search tool and plug in every result you find. You've got to evaluate the sources, and look for that kind of duplication. It wasn't hard to spot. Also, please avoid using IMDB as a source. It's a good external link, but it's not considered a reliable source for Wikipedia articles. See WP:CITEIMDB. Thanks. Notice

The article Thori Setting Thora Pyar has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Appears to fail WP:NFILM

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. A friendly note about vandalism warnings

[edit]

Hi Zimi09. It's great that you want to revert vandalism, but I wanted to give you some advice so that you don't accidently "bite" new editors on Wikipedia. I saw you reverted this [2] and left a level 4 warning at the talk page of the user who made the edit. For silly vandalism like that, a level 2 warning would work best. Sometimes people just make one silly edit and move on, or are just experimenting (where a level 1 warning would be more useful). Level 4 warnings are more of a last resort kind of thing, or if it's something really egregious. This page might be useful to read for more details regarding that. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to help. Clovermoss (talk) 19:39, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Everyone makes mistakes, but you can only learn from them if someone lets you know. I will say that if you're interested in doing counter-vandalism work, maybe you'd be interested in the counter-vandalism academy? You don't have to if you don't want to, but there's some resources listed at that page that might be helpful regardless of whether or not you pursue that. Zimi09, you've been warned about this before. You CANNOT copy and paste from sources into Wikipedia articles. You absolutely did that on this article. It's nearly a 100% copy from [thehindu.com/news/national/gyanvapi-mosque-kashi-vishwanath-temple-history-case-explained/article65411250.ece this article] which substantially predates your edits. This is not acceptable. Consider this a final warning, further incidents will be taken to WP:ANI asking you be blocked to prevent further harm to Wikipedia from continued copyright violations. Ravensfire (talk) 13:49, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Bichoo (TV series) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://www.magpakistan.com/bichoo-drama-cast-name-pictures-story-timing/. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

I'm finding that a lot of the plot sections from TV show articles are copied from one source or another. I'm wondering if a WP:CCI case is warranted at this point. There's a lot of cleanup and checking that's needed and I haven't seen any effort from Zimi09 to review and cleanup their prior articles when notified about other issues. Ravensfire (talk) 16:17, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Ravensfire I ran the most recent creations (about 10 of them) and all but 1 were outright plot copyvios but I forgot to tag them, so yeah, CCI is warranted. PRAXIDICAE🌈 16:22, 15 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Bilal Ghauri has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:BLPCRIME - sources are tied to one event, or are a list of articles this person has written. If anything, a section in Censorship_in_Kashmir covering (mis)-use of the law would be an option.

I think you'll need to be more specific with your new understanding of copyright rules and how you will change your editing going forward. What specifically will you do if you are unblocked? Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 19:38, 6 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moneytrees (Talk) My articles which had a copyright issues have been removed by various editors. But still my first priority would be to check and remove copyright material, especially from those articles that are moved by editors to draft space due to copyright violation. Zimi09 (talk) 02:57, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, any copyright violations you added should be cleaned up now; see the history of Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Zimi09. You won't need to worry about cleaning them up yourself. Is there anything else you would change if you were allowed to edit again? Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 03:27, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moneytrees(Talk) If I am unblocked, I will try to fix my previous articles which have lack references,or have a maintenance tag۔ In addition, I will create new articles keeping in mind the copyright policies. Zimi09 (talk) 03:51, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Alright, but be extra careful with your future editing. MER-C, are you okay with me unblocking here? Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 04:51, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Any thought of having Zimi09 use Draft space for new articles and wait for them to be accepted for a time period as a double-check? Ravensfire (talk) 21:16, 7 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This level of detail I find unsatisfying. I would like to see satisfactory answers to the following:
    • How is Wikipedia licenced?
    • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
    • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
    • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Request reason:

In the previous request, you asked for answers to the questions. Their answers are as follows. Q1/What is copyright? According to my point of view Copyright is a subject or work that gives its producer the exclusive right to distribute, copy and display, usually for a limited time and duration. Q2/How is Wikipedia licenced? Most of Wikipedia's text and many of its images are licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 (CC BY-SA) and the GNU Free Documentation License (unaltered, without unaltered parts, under the front or back cover texts shared licensees). Some text may not be reused under the GFDL, these are imported only under CC BY-SA and CC BY-SA-compatible licenses. Q3/Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia? Copyrighted content is not allowed on Wikipedia because the Wikipedia Foundation's database servers are located in the United States of America, Wikipedia is subject to US copyright law in this regard and cannot host content that violates US copyright law. Q4/Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content? To use copyrighted content on Wikipedia, we must obtain permission or a license from the copyright owner. And for this we have to contact the copyright holder and take permission. Wikipedia also allows us to use a small amount of content under the Fair Use Policy. Fair Use allows to Wikipedia editor for limited use of copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder for certain purposes. Q5/How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future? I have realized my mistake and I learned a lot from it. And I have learned that Wikipedia deals with copyright violations very strictly. I will take steps to avoid copyright in the future. I have written some action names which I will take special care of it. The first thing I will do is to never copy paste any content from anywhere. And secondly, if there is a need to copy the content, it would be my preference to get permission from the copyright holder before using it. And thirdly, minimize the use of fair use and edit Wikipedia with my own content. If there is any content, I will always assume that the work is copyrighted. So I avoid using content from another article.

Decline reason:

@MER-C: As blocking admin, what are your thoughts about an unblock here? --Yamla (talk) 10:06, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral - I won't oppose one, but I also won't support one knowing the damage unblocked repeat copyright violators can cause before they get blocked again. MER-C 11:31, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Turns out, this was a ban-evading sockpuppet. So much for my WP:AGF here. --Yamla (talk) 11:46, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sir, don't worry, I won't give any chance to complain. Earlier also, there were 4 to 5 articles out of 33 in which the issue of copyright came up. But now I will work very carefully. Zimi09 (talk) 11:47, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Zimi09. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Thori Setting Thora Pyar".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thank you for your submission to Wikipedia! —Nnadigoodluck 22:21, 21 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Mohi-ud-Din Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences.png

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Mohi-ud-Din Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences.png. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 10:38, 3 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
