Unique Performance Volleyball AdD Request for Copy
[edit]Could you please send em a copy of the Unique Performance Volleyball article that was deleted speedily? I have reviewed the reasons for deletion, and still believe the listing has merit for being on wiki. The club competes "at the highest level of competition" in accordance with wiki standards for amateur sports. The club's teams currently compete at the USA Volleyball Girl's Junior National level, including the Junior Olympic championships and qualifiers, which is the highest level of junior amateur indoor volleyball.
Also, they have merit for players playing collegiate volleyball, who are or were members of the club.
Thanks. --Coachsutton (talk) 21:50, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Greeves. I've removed you from the list of active users providing assistances at WP:USURP and WP:RENAME because you haven't recently made any clerk edits. If this is a mistake, please re-add yourself to the list. Thanks, Mønobi 22:49, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- I clerked seven days ago actually. I think that that's pretty recent. Greeves (talk • contribs) 23:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
- My bad, I didn't see it when I filtered it by namespace. I'll re-add you. Mønobi 23:42, 6 January 2008 (UTC)
Phillip McCallen
[edit]Hi - just a thought, but next time you use another editors personal stub to create a new article, such as you did for Philip McCallen, you might: (a) advise the editor; (b) check the stub article first; (c) check the spelling of the persons name. Apart from that, a reasonable effort...! Rgds, - Trident13 (talk) 09:16, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
- I am not sure I know what you are talking about. Looking at Philip McCallen, I do not remember seeing or editing the article before.
- If this is about User:Trident13/personalprojectstubs, please know that others will edit these articles (however I haven't yet) and that there is no requirement to inform you. Not many people would even find that page in your userspace before they make any edits to "your personal stub". If you would like to keep an eye on the progress of an article you created, you may wish to add it to your watchlist.
- In the future, please remember that you do not have any "personal stubs". Greeves (talk • contribs) 15:13, 19 January 2008 (UTC)
New Semester, New Appeal
[edit]This semester I am teaching academic writing to a group of teachers at my school. This course starts on Monday Jan 28. I would like to know if you are still interesting in "mentoring". You can see the syllabus at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/SyllabusIf so, please leave a message on my talk page and update the mentor's page Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors, if . If not, please remove your name and information from that page. Thanks! Thelmadatter (talk) 20:45, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

Caballed again
[edit]Last night I wrote this page and expressed joy that I could mention Carlo Suarez somewhere and not be instantly deleted. You replied when I entered a comment on a "cabal" topic. Tonight my comment has disappeared. Here is what came to my email: The Meta page User talk:Johnshoemaker has been created on 02:53, 12 February 2008 by Greeves, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Johnshoemaker for the current version.
Perhaps you can direct me to those aware of the cabal as I'd like to share my opinion of why this group works to hide understanding of Torah. johnshoemaker30@yahoo.com Johnshoemaker (talk) 06:00, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- I imagine that you got that email as you have set your preferences on Meta so that you are informed whenever anyone edits your talk page. I edited your talk page to welcome you to Meta and so you got an email. I have no idea what this whole cabal business you are talking about is about though. Greeves (talk • contribs) 23:10, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
- There is a "cabal" section on a Wike(media, meta): Religion page. You welcomed me. I'll go look for the address with the "cabal" section. I assummed you would be familiar. The section suggested there was a cabal within Wiki that worked to keep some things secret. At least you are replying and denying knowledge of a cabal. Ball's in my court now to go find the "cabal" section of a Wikisomething page that trips your "welcome" button. Thanks for your patience, eh.Johnshoemaker (talk) 01:40, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- The “cabal” section is mentioned here:
- When I added to “talk” on above the following was sent to me:
- Perhaps the dark-ages use of the term hasn’t interested you but it is interesting that some within meta.wikemedia have noted the attempt by some to obscure discussion of Kabblah that is not “above the intellect,” that is, mystical. Since you have been chosen to welcome me to wiki.media perhaps you can refer me to someone interested in the perceived cabal.
- Do you have any interest in the Hieroglyphs in which Torah is embodied or observing the method with which a plain English text is derived from the first verse? Would you be interested in an example of a Hieroglyph(spiritual glyph)?
- There is evidence of the cabal thru the Dark-Ages and two millenia ago. Protecting the stories, garments that have been wrapped about Torah appears to be the motive. Johnshoemaker (talk) 02:20, 15 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dear Greeves,
- My experience with Canadians lets me know they aren't commonly repelled by adventure. You are simply looking diligently for someone interested in the cabal mentioned on the WP Religion page. Eh?Johnshoemaker (talk) 03:42, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Dear Greeves,
- If this is regarding the deletion of the pages which you created, I suggest that you contact the administrators which deleted the pages: Keilana, Sephiroth BCR, and MZMcBride. Greeves (talk • contribs) 17:13, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- No, You simply did your duty to welcome me to meta. You probably haven't viewed the Religion page and seen the "cabal" section. Possibly you haven't viewed the Religion page. I've since learned that it is common for an editor to delete something he/she doesn't want to deal with. No reply needed. Thanks againJohnshoemaker (talk) 12:35, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

MFD closures
[edit]Regarding Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Cloudsdriftby and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/User:Fixious, your "no consensus" close is just plain wrong. They're obvious violations of multiple policies -- and, per long-standing policy and practice, get nuked -- as I've documented, and the "keep" votes were plain handwaving "does not!" or misdirections, despite the plain language of the policies. Closings should not be done by mere vote-counting, which is what looks like was done here. --Calton | Talk 03:50, 2 March 2008 (UTC)
- I feel that I closed this according to consensus. In the past, many a person has felt similar to the "keep" commenters. Should you wish to refute this closure, please see Wikipedia:Deletion review. Greeves (talk • contribs) 23:36, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Recovering my page
[edit]I would like to recover the article "International Product Safety & Liability Prevention Association" recently deleted by another administrator, and I thank you for any help you can render. ChulaOne (talk) 13:45, 17 March 2009 (UTC)
Hi!
I would like to recover the text my page about K. W. Johansen, deleted on 29 February 2008. Are you able to send it to me? I think the article (bio) was important enough to be in Wikipedia, but I didn't underlined it enough I think (it was my first page). I would like to try again, but I need to rewrite some stuffs and I didn't keep the source.
Thanks in advance,
djeedai (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 11:01, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Please provide me with an e-mail address or send me a message using Special:Emailuser/Greeves and I would be happy to send it to you. For the record, the article was deleted by Gb per WP:CSD#G7 which states:
An article about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. A7 applies only to articles about web content or articles on people and organizations themselves, not articles on their books, albums, software and so on. Other article types are not eligible for deletion by this criterion. If controversial, as with schools, list the article at Articles for deletion instead.
- Should you wish to contact the deleting administrator about his or her speedy deletion, please see User talk:Gb. Should you wish to re-add the article to Wikipedia, I suggest trying to make sure that it does not fall under the afore mentioned criteria for speedy deletion. Greeves (talk • contribs) 15:22, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
- Don't mean to stick my nose in where it doesn't belong, but I happened to read this while making the post below. Above you said G7, but I believe you mean A7 - G7 is for author requests - either that or you quoted the wrong criterion. Cheers.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 20:16, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Early closures at MfD
[edit]Hey Greeves, I don't have any problem with your closure decisions but I wanted to point out that a few of them are just a hair early by my reckoning. If a nomination occurs on 14 March at 1300 the closure shouldn't take place before 1300 on the 19th. For that reason I've been advancing the old business marker only to discussions a full 5 days out so there is no question. Some of yours appear a few hours early, and I just don't want to see anyone screaming about it to DRV and wasting everybody's time. Thanks. If my math is off feel free to slap me.--Doug.(talk • contribs) 20:12, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia 15 in Winnipeg
[edit]Wikipedia is celebrating its 15th birthday on January 15, 2016. I have thought for a while that it would be neat to meet some local wikipedians. According to the wikipedians in Winnipeg or Wikipedians in Manitoba category you are one of us. I am contacting people in this category to say: Let's celebrate this milestone. If you know other wikipedians, please ask them to join in as well.
I am posting this to your talk page as a transclude so that any updates will show up automatically.
Hope to see you there! Tenbergen (talk) 04:46, 22 December 2015 (UTC)
One other Winnipeg Wikipedian showed up, in addition to a number of regular skullspace members. It was nice to actually talk to someone else who has worked with Mediawiki and actually "gets" transclusion. Cake was eaten! Tenbergen (talk) 06:37, 16 January 2016 (UTC)
- Aw, apparently I haven't logged in to Wikipedia in over 6 years and I totally missed this message and the event! I guessed I missed any 20 year celebration, too. Let me know if you end up doing a 25 year one. :) Clayton Rumley (talk) 22:52, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games
[edit]Hello, I closed the respective MfD as selective merge, but the idea of leaving the fate of the sup pages somewhat open turned out to be more complex than I initially thought and I'd do it differently next time. If you notice something that I deleted, but better shouldn't have, let me know. The discussion is [[[1]]--Tikiwont (talk) 16:21, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi I noticed you closed this AFD as delete. I feel that the two sources I pointed to in the debate establish notability per WP:BIO by covering the subject significantly, thus addressing the concerns of those who argued for deletion. Given that my comment was made after the other editors had commented (and they probably never saw the sources I added) I feel a relist to allow other editors to consider the sources I linked to would be appropriate. I hope you will think about reversing your closure and instead relist the AFD.
Thanks for considering this. Davewild (talk) 16:54, 21 June 2008 (UTC)
- I have taken this to Deletion Review here - Wikipedia:Deletion review/Log/2008 June 22 - as I feel this AFD should be relisted as I stated above. Davewild (talk) 20:53, 22 June 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you recently deleted Martin O. May under CSD A7: "Doesn't indicate importance or significance of a real person." But, the article stated that May was a recipient of the Medal of Honor, the highest American military award. How is that not an assertion of importance or significance? I really don't think it qualified for a speedy deletion. Could you please reinstate the article and, if you still think it is not notable, list it at AFD? Thanks. — jwillbur 15:23, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- I just looked over the article again and there was no mention of him recieving the Medal of Honor. Greeves (talk • contribs) 15:39, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- No? I could have sworn it did. Could you put a copy of it in my userspace? Thanks again. — jwillbur 23:26, 22 July 2008 (UTC)
- I think I figured out what happened. Did you check if the article was vandalized before you deleted it? An IP (this one) replaced Martin May, a redirect to Martin O. May, with a made-up biography. Presumably he also replaced Martin O. May with similar content. I'm guessing, of course, since I can't see the deleted article, but if I am right could you please restore the un-vandalized version of Martin O. May? — jwillbur 01:34, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Indeed you are correct. Sorry about my mistake. I will restore the article shortly. Apologetically, Greeves (talk • contribs) 01:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. Thanks for getting to it so quickly. Happy editing! — jwillbur 01:48, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

aharon42 new user. can I help?
[edit]I am a new user. I have already applyed for a mentor but I was wondering if you need an intern? I would be happy to do little tasks for you (the boring ones that are not worth your time maybe) in exchange for a little instruction. Your profile indicates that you have a specific skill set that differs from most of the other potential mentors. I also am doing graduate research already so I would be very happy to do any research for you that you need. With respect.aharon42 (talk) 07:59, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games all articles, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games all articles has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:WikiProject Massively multiplayer online games all articles, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Good Morning Greeves! Hi, I'm searching for a way to organize editor support around addressing what I see as ongoing issues of wikimedia:meta#Tunnel vision#The encyclopedia that Slashdot built#Western imperialism and wikimedia:meta#Tunnel vision#The encyclopedia that Slashdot built. (I give examples at Hilarleo/ Countercultures & "reliable published sources" or Hilarleo to Greeves, 2009.0221 )
Anyway there exist editors who share the belief that
- 1). there is no reason to believe a median sample of the most widely available "verifiable sources" is WP:NPOV;
- 2). this political problem embraces WP and tends to create partisan conflicts in the WP community;
- 3). at least until WP:Policy becomes more subtle, a radical (as in "root"), fundamental and inherent NPOV should be encouraged via a broadly organized Editorial agenda of education and activism concerning cultural threats to NPOV.
So I'd hoped to find an extant 'WikiProject Peace' to work with. The March 2008 'WP:WikiProject Peace' deletion arguments consistnetly note one problem: the interminable possibilities represented by such a name name. This also points out how necessary this projet is. Could you refer me to any alternative existing group with similar broad interests (as opposed to specific conflicts)?
Or would you be inclined to support any 'WikiProject Peace' with closely-identified goals? Say, WP:WikiProject Peace and Resolution? WP:WikiProject Conflict Studies? WP:WikiProject Imperialism? WP:WikiProject International Corporation? WP:WikiProject Military-Industrial Complex? Another notion I had was to work within the extant WP:WikiProject Military History- our natural home- but that could surely confuse or distress some of that group! But- Better suggestions...?
PS- this user page is large enough to cause me problems. I'd prefer to take the discussion elsewhere- ie.,Hilarleo to Greeves, 2009.0221. Thank you for your time. Hilarleo Hey,L.E.O.v 19:59, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

adoption (sort of)
[edit]Hello Greeves, I found your name on the adopters page, and based on the description there you are very involved in the meta side of wikipedia. I just edit articles, mostly under IPs because I don't remember to log in. In fact, I think all the articles I created de nouveau were under IP. Anyway, lately I have been coming up against times when people who know how wikipedia politics work take advantage of people who are making the right edits on pages but I haven't done anything because I don't know much about admins etc myself. I am wondering if you can 'adopt' me in a sense meaning I will come to you for help next time I run into this trouble and you can guide me through the red tape. I am a RL author who cites well. GA Sweeps invitation
[edit]Hello, I hope you are doing well. I am sending you this message since you are a member of the GA WikiProject. I would like to invite you to consider helping with the GA sweeps process. Sweeps helps to ensure that the oldest GAs still meet the criteria, and improve the quality of GAs overall. Unfortunately, last month only two articles were reviewed. This is definitely a low point after our peak at the beginning of the process when 163 articles were reviewed in September 2007. After nearly two years, the running total has just passed the 50% mark. In order to expediate the reviewing, several changes have been made to the process. A new worklist has been created, detailing which articles are left to review. All exempt and previously reviewed articles have already been removed from the list. Instead of reviewing by topic, you can consider picking and choosing whichever articles interest you.
We are always looking for new members to assist with the remaining articles, so if you are interested or know of anybody that can assist, please visit the GA sweeps page. In addition, for every member that reviews 100 articles or has a significant impact on the process, s/he will get an award when they reach that threshold. If only 14 editors achieve this feat starting now, we would be done with Sweeps! Of course, having more people reviewing less articles would be better for all involved, so please consider asking others to help out. Feel free to stop by and only review a few articles, something's better than nothing! Take a look at the list, and see what articles interest you. Let's work to complete Sweeps so that efforts can be fully focused on the backlog at GAN. If you have any questions about the process, reviewing, or need help with a particular article, please contact me or OhanaUnited and we'll be happy to help. --Happy editing! I have three questions
[edit]I made an edit today--one edit--to the article Carrie Prejean and have not made an edit to the article in days, but yet another editor reversed my ONE edit and then reported me on the 3RR notice board. I find this to be a clear use of Wikipedia to win a debate about article content and direction. Prejean was called a series of negative things by Perez Hilton, most of the words are contemptuous and vile, such as the b-word and c-word. There are editors that believe that each and every one of Hilton's use of those words MUST be included in the article about Prejean. Now, I don't see the need to have an article about Prejean dominated by the words and comments of ONE individual (highly negative words at that) dominate the life story of Prejean. It is tantamount to having the words of Saddam Hussein concerning George W Bush dominate the Wikipedia article about Bush. It violates Wikipedia avowed goal of NPOV and it violates BLP. Now, I know that consensus in Wikipedia editing is one of the goals, but consensus does NOT override other valid Wikipedia ideals such as BLP. There can be a compromise made where the gist of Hilton's highly negative opinion is included in the article, but at the same time it does NOT dominate the life story of Prejean. Prejean is notable for many, many reasons, not just her public fight with Hilton. She is notable for being a successful model; she is notable for participating in Deal or No Deal; she is notable for being the current Miss California USA; and she is now notable for being a TV personality. My first question is: Can you at least review the article and see if the second, third, fourth, and fifth repetitions of the b-word and c-word violates BLP? I believe that it does. And my second question is: Is it appropriate to make a report on an editor for violating 3RR even though that editor has only made one edit? And my third question is: Is misusing 3RR to win a debate on the proper interpretation of BLP appropriate? I don't think so.--InaMaka (talk) 15:59, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Dear WikiProject Video games member,
You are receiving this message because you have either Category:WikiProject Video games members or {{User WPVG}} somewhere in your userspace and you have edited Wikipedia in the recent months.
The Video games project has created a member list to provide a clearer picture of its active membership.
All members have currently been placed in the "Inactive" section by default. Please remove your username from the "Inactive" listing and place it under the "Active" listing if you plan on regularly:
- Editing video game-related pages in the Article namespace
- Participating in video game-related discussions in the Project namespace (WT:VG, WP:AfD, WP:GAN, etc.)
Ideally, members are encouraged to do both, but either one meets our criteria of inclusion. Members still listed inactive at the beginning of November 2009 may be removed. You may re-add yourself to the active list at any time. Thank you for your help, and we look forward to working with you.

April 2010 GAN backlog elimination drive
[edit]WikiProject Good Articles will be running a GAN backlog elimination drive for the entire month of April. The goal of this drive is to bring the number of outstanding Good Article nominations down to below 200. This will help editors in restoring confidence to the GAN process as well as actively improving, polishing, and rewarding good content. If you are interested in participating in the drive, please place your name here. Awards will be given out to those who review certain numbers of GANs as well as to those who review the most. Hope we can see you in April. |

Suspension of admin privileges due to inactivity
[edit]Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative privileges of users who have been inactive for one year, meaning administrators who have made neither any edits nor any logged actions in over one year. As a result of this discussion, your administrative privileges have been removed pending your return. If you wish to have these privileges reinstated, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e., as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised and that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions). This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Notice of change
[edit]Hello. You are receiving this message because of a recent change to the administrator policy that alters what you were told at the time of your desysopping. The effect of the change is that you will not longer be able to request restoration of the tools because of your prior inactivity. You have until December 30, 2012 to request restoration or else the policy will prevent you from doing so in the future; you would need to seek a new WP:RFA. Until December 30, you can file a request at WP:BN for review by the crats. Thank you. MBisanz talk 04:22, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Beside improving articles, a goal of this participatory workshops is to initiate neophyte in the cooperative contribution of Wikipedia.
If you are interested in organizing or participating in a contribution day in your region, communicate witht he national team on the project's talk page. The exact agenda of each local event is left to the discretion of the organizer. Help is available for the organization from contributors who already organized these type of days, so don't be worried.
