Swiss Commercial Association

Hey, young Fritter. You're inviting Kaufmännischer Verband Schweiz to "discuss content and sourcing on Talk: Swiss Commercial Association" and telling them you hope they enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. But you have declined their unblock request on UTRS, so how are they gonna do those things? I'd be terminally confused if I was them. Heck, I'm pretty confused being me, even though (presumably unlike the user) I can recognize the boilerplate text.

As for their claim at UTRS that there's no advertising or promotion, I'd like to point to their edits where the union is described as a "center of excellence for education and business". It doesn't get much more promotional than that. Firstly, it's taken from the trade union's own site, to which they provide a reference (indeed they link to the "about us" section), and secondly, "das Kompetenzzentrum für Bildung und Beruf" is translated with an extra layer of promotion, with "center of excellence" rather than "the competence center" (as Google Translate has it). Query

Hello, Deepfriedokra,

There's a question I've been wondering about that maybe you can clarity for me. In my admin duties, I monitor the Move log because, for some reason, new editors can be entranced by the ability to move pages around and they sometimes move them to the wrong namespace which one of us can correct. But it also has page moves for all renames that happen and I see you changing usernames for lots of editors. I also have a lot of scripts I've installed that show different editor statuses and I've noticed that about half of the time, the username changes are for editors that are blocked on this project which always struck me as strange. Is it because you are doing a global username change and they happen to be active on another Wikipedia site on the project? Seems strange for a indefinitely blocked editor to request a username change but I see it happen daily. But I suppose that they might only be blocked on the English Wikipedia. @Liz: If they are other than user name blocked anywhere, they don't get renamed. If they are user name blocked, renaming is part of their unblock conditions. They remain blocked till they deal with their promotional edits, for instance. If they are only blocked for their user name, they have fulfilled the condition for unblocking. I used to unblock and expect them to live up to the promise to rename. Many did not. (talk page stalker) Hi, Liz. I became a global renamer precisely so that I could rename blocked users whose unblock is dependent on a rename, because the old method, where even after any issues apart from the username have been resolved, a user is first unblocked on the condition that they apply for a rename before any other editing is subject to various problems. If I am dealing with both the rename and the unblock, I can do both together, but if the unblock is being handled by an administrator who isn't a global renamer, it can make the process easier for all concerned if the rename is out of the way, so that the editor doesn't have to go through the bureacratic process of reading up on how to apply for a rename, then applying for one, then waiting for it to happen ... and there's also the fact that either we run the risk that risk the editor will in fact return to editing without a rename, or else the unblocking administrator has to keep checking back to see whether the editor has started editing without a rename ... Can you tell me, as a non-speaker of US English, what an ivy league commit is? A Google search came up with countless pages which use the expression, but as far as I could see (without loading them all up and reading them) they all assumed that everybody knows what it means, rather than defining it. I got the impression (again without reading them all) that they all related to the weird (IMO) American practice of universities taking on "students" principally so they could play in their sports teams, rather than on academic merit. Okra

I was born and raised in Michigan and have lived in California for 52 years. Those are not prime okra eating states, and I admit that I have not had a positive impression of the vegetable in the past.

Anyway, I set out to cook a Cajun New Orleans style dinner outside my comfort zone a few days ago. Cheese grits, roast sweetbreads, fried chicken livers with onions. And I cooked okra for the first time in my life. I soaked them in vinegar, and sautéed them along with Ro-Tel spicy tomatoes and green chilis. It was really delicious and a new flavor for me. Question regarding distinction between Disruptive Editing and Vandalism

Hi,

Maybe a dumb question but thought best to ask an admin directly. Would multiple instances of what appears to be the manufacturing of quotes from sources be a "red line" distinction matter between "disruptive editing" and vandalism, given it would appear to be willful behaviour?

Ever since his account Javerine was blocked in April, this user has been non stop harassing me with logged out editing, proxies, and sock accounts like Rivanwam, Swellingtom, Elifanta23, Supmananger and filed numerous frivolous SPIs against me, all of which were shut down by CUs. Yes it's true that I did indeed engage in sockpuppetry during December 2021-May 2022, primarily because this user was hounding me through his sock account MehmoodS, but I did my time, and I have never, not once engaged in sockpuppetry since my unblock in Dec 2022. Question

I have a question on whether something should count as a sockpuppet or a meatpuppet. A user who created two Libertarian election pages argued against me nominating it for deletion because of WP:GNG concerns, saying that "all political parties are equal" and saying that there's enough information to warrant a page. A new user made today immediately voted to keep for the same reasons, but the first user says that they're working at the "George Micro Polls", which the second user has the name "George" (although its pretty much a username violation as well as its copying GeorgeNotFound). reppop^talk 01:36, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

Problems with communication

Multiple accounts like yours have been saying I am “Moka Mo” and I have been trying to say repeatedly that I am not Moka Mo. My name is Ethan Parker and that I have never heard of Moka Mo until August when these accusations were first brought to me. I mean does Ethan Parker sound anything like Moka Mo to you? That name sounds Asian to me so there is no way that can be me. Whenever I say these things I am either gaslighted or ignored by you guys. I don’t know what else to do because I’m always cancelled out by you guys. I tried to be calm and professional at first but the more I was silenced the more frustrated I got. In fact Starscream1007 even encouraged me initially to stand up for myself and keep fighting my case only for him to eventually turn the other way and turn his back on me when I asked him to be a character witness about how my edits were indeed in good faith and not meant to be harmful or disruptive. I wish we could have a healthy conversation together about this so you guys can see the type of person I am. I have been unblocked by the administrators after I appealed to them and they believed I was not Moka Mo like a lot of you thought which I am grateful for. Since they are giving me a second chance now that they know the true story about my activity, I was hoping you and I can make amends. I am usually not an emotionally driven person and I am usually pretty easy to get along with but I admit to have overreacted. Obviously trying to say repeatedly that I am not who people think I am and not being believed was grueling and I usually don't lose my cool with people but I know I did lose my cool and I am using the second chance given to me to be better at keeping my emotions under control and I want to hopefully make amends with those who mistook me for moka mo. I don't expect you to forgive me at least not right away but if you do then that would be great. Thanks.

I just had a very weird encounter I wanted to bring to your attention. You might recall the interactions during this sockpuppet investigation that included me being hounded by a particular IP, to the degree that you put in a partial block for them from my talkpage. A new account with whom I've never before interacted, and who has only been around for a week, referenced all of that in some detail here while making a personal attack. I'm not sure what to ask for, exactly, other than for an admin familiar with the previous situation to be aware. It's a very peculiar and specific thing for a week-old account to know about. I know I'm a bit of a hard-liner on this, but Contentious material about living persons (or, in some cases, recently deceased) that is unsourced or poorly sourced—whether the material is negative, positive, neutral, or just questionable—must be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion. doesn't mean "not 168 hours." That article called someone a murderer, stalker, rapist, and more multiple times in wiki-voice without the support of the sources cited. A local news source saying "a local woman accused him of stalking her" doesn't meet the threshold for saying he was a stalker in wikivoice. ScottishFinnishRadish (talk) 15:26, 4 June 2024 (UTC)

Which AfD reason would that be then? It's a notable case, and AfD is not for cleanup. So that would be "complete deletion because it is a blatant BLP violation claiming that someone is a murderer when they aren't convicted yet". No, Deepfriedokra (and BBB and anyone else declining such a speedy), next time you believe such a speedy should be declined and simply reinstate the old version, you should be dragged to ANI or blocked, as you are then reinstating blatant BLP violations instead of addressing them in any way at all. New editor

The Yasuke article brought a flood of new editors to enwiki (and dramaboard drama, too), and I know we're in a new era where quick fluency with using a wiki is no longer a clear sock sign like it once was. But I've been dealing with some sock attention lately, as you know, and after this ANI comment came directed at me out of the blue, from an almost brand-new editor, I thought I'd ask if you see any red flags. There's a precocious mastery of policy (e.g., quoting deep cuts WP:NOTADVOCACY and MOS:INFOBOXREF within their first 50-odd edit summaries, a ton of policy/MOS bluelinks here) that usually signals an account isn't entirely new. Among the first couple of edits are ones that are written like an old hand, who understands the relationships between different pages.[9][10] I'm not sure who it is (or if I'm wrong and it just happens to be someone who acclimated quickly), but I thought you might see a telltale sign or two. I'd never even heard of Yasuke until yesterday when I blocked Nocomputersintexas based on a report at ANI (and my own review of the user's edits). I have been to Tokyo once, but I don't recall meeting any samurai at the hotel. One of the best cups of hot chocolate I've ever had, though.

Yes, I'm sure it is an imposter, but I wondered whether there was any point in blocking access to UTRS anyway. My impression is that the answer is "no", because it's possible to post a UTRS appeal for an IP address other than the one that you are actually using, so it wouldn't actually stop them, but I don't actually know for certain whether that is so; that's why I consulted you. On fact, it isn't really a big deal, because the moment I see the first three words I just press the "decline" button without any more thought, so, contrary to what the troll probably thinks, it isn't actually a nuisance to any significant extent. Hello!, I recently received an email about a UTRS appeal that was allegedly made on August 15th. I've already contacted another UTRS admin on this matter, but when I reviewed the appeal, I noticed that you were the one who had rejected it. Could you provide any information or sources related to this appeal? Similar messages were also left on User Yunshui's talk page, which is quite concerning. I'm worried that this person might have access to my personal information. If I am a potential suspect (which is understandable), please look into the language and location of the individual making these threats. I wouldn't go to this extent to get myself banned again. It could be that the appeal was given a new name after, as you wouldn't have been blocked at the time, which means it would offer for them to change the name to the actual block target. I am working on other such countermeasures for UTRS 3. I would not be able to give you the location of any account/appeal. (talk page stalker) A number of times my talk page has been semi-protected because of trolls. On such occasions I have usually made available an alternative, unprotected, talk page, at User talk:JBW/Open, with a message on my main talk page inviting non-confirmed editors to post there, and a duplicate of that message in an Editnotice. I have found that it works perfectly. Obviously there is nothing to stop the vandals/trolls from vandalising or trolling on the alternative talk page, but in practice I have found that they never do. (And yes, I do mean "never", not "hardly ever".) I found that very surprising; the best I had thought I could hope for was bit of a reduction in the amount of vandalism. I can only assume that there's no fun in vandalising if they think it isn't going to be very visible. JBW (talk) 22:10, 21 September 2024 (UTC)

As with so many things that I tell you, you may already know all of the following and disagree with my opinion on it, but I mention it just in case you don't know and may find it helpful. Much more than 90% of my editing is done on my phone. Many people get seriously put off phone-editing because it's horrendously cumbersome and inconvenient to do so using the idiotic "mobile" interface, but if you just select the "desktop" interface instead, for almost all purposes it's just as easy to use as a computer. Unfortunately there are a few exceptions, but most of the time those exceptions don't arise, and when they do I usually postpone them until I'm on a computer. It is very rare that any significant inconvenience is caused. In fact I find the "desktop" interface about 5 times as helpful as the "mobile" one for reading Wikipedia, and about 500 times as convenient for editing.

... and my final comment on this is that if you don't know how to get off the "mobile" interface, scroll down the page and find the "desktop" link, and tap it. JBW (talk) 19:39, 27 September 2024 (UTC)
