WikiProject H. P. Lovecraft
Hi Auric, this is a followup to our discussion at User_talk:BrownHairedGirl#Setting_up_automation.
As you know, Wikipedia:WikiProject H. P. Lovecraft is still under discussion at WP:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:WikiProject H. P. Lovecraft, and at WP:WikiProject Council/Proposals/H. P. Lovecraft.
WP:WikiProject Council/Proposals says explicitly "If you do not have a group of people, then you do not have a WikiProject, even if you have created a WikiProject page. A WikiProject is the people, not the page."
You have been adding a banner for this non-project to dozens of talk pages.[1]. Please stop it. there will be plenty of time to add banners if an when the project actually exists. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:41, 21 September 2019 (UTC)

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ankh-Morpork Assassins' Guild until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. TTN (talk) 11:34, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
I noticed that you added at Draft:Joe W. Henry that he was preceded by John Haywood, and succeeded by Janice M. Holder. However, Haywood served on the court from 1816 to 1826, while Henry took office nearly 150 years later, in 1974. Furthermore Henry left the court in 1980, while Holder did not join the court until 1996. bd2412 T 14:40, 28 October 2019 (UTC)
- I see you've already fixed that.--Auric talk 15:41, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

Help on newly accepted article.
First, thanks for your previous help.
Second, just got talk message that article was accepted B grade. But when I click on name, it says does not exist, do I want to create? What to do?
Received the following talk message:
"Your submission at Articles for creation: Zhang Dinghuang has been accepted"
When I clicked on the link "Zhang Dinghuang", it says :
"This page has not yet been created. Create page No, thanks."
HELP PLEASE.

Re: Help? Zhang Dinghuan
So this was moved back to draft. Is there a reason? Difficult to re-write without objective. It was tighter before all the edits. Still better than many stub articles. Rewrite without objective seem pointless.
Three sentence synopsis. 1) Zhang was a supporting but key figure of the very rich 20th c Chinese literary movements. 2) Multi linguist who studied in Japan and France and was professor at Beijing U and Sino Franco U., and active in the scene. 3) Post WWII recovered core collection of antique manuscripts for Taiwan's National Central Library (literary equivalent of antiques of Palace Museum), doing so primarily by personal negotiation with US and Japanese officials without need for interpretors... Seems to me above is sufficient in comparison w many wiki articles. Pretty much everything else in the draft are to support those 3 sentences. (That third sentence is a billion $ legacy today. )
Comparing loosely, the man is not a Hemingway or Faulkner (Lu Xun). But he was similar to Mencken. And there was the chaotic scenes in China for the entire period, revolution from Qing, Japanese invasion, civil war communist against Republic.
Would very much appreciate your help in defining objectives. Have a nice week, Ed QSandai (talk) 10:19, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
Definition of shipwreck
This list is titled shipwrecks, please check the definition of what constitutes a shipwreck. Ships which are lost due to grounding are included, ships which temporarily ground but are re-floated and return to service do not - it's simply a maritime incident Lyndaship (talk) 18:11, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- I guess I misunderstood the parameters.--Auric talk 18:16, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- I agree the criteria for inclusion would be better worded if it just said "all ships lost during October 1941." Maybe I will get AWB on the pages tomorrow Lyndaship (talk) 18:30, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
Zu Shenatir
Hi, per WP:MERGEINIT I can make a bold merge when there is an obvious reason. I think that the process is going to take a lot of time. I have asked in the admin notice board to make the process faster and merge the article.--SharabSalam (talk) 19:42, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- The problem was that you didn't merge, you redirected. --Auric talk 19:46, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Isnt that how merge is done? I wanted to merge to the most detailed one. The Zu Shenatir article was all about his crimes. The sources that spell his name as "Zu Shenatir" mention his criminal history while the sources that are about him in general use "Dhu Shanatir".--SharabSalam (talk) 20:47, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Also google books says that there are 286 results for "Dhu Shanatir" and 213 results for "Zu Shenatir".--SharabSalam (talk) 20:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- The point of a merge is to combine the information in the two articles, not simply remove the information in one of the articles.--Auric talk 21:07, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- I did move the content to Dhu Shanatir see this diff.--SharabSalam (talk) 21:23, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- So I see. I'm working on completing the merge now.--Auric talk 21:25, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you so much.. BTW, Zu=Dhu just like Dhu Nuwas, Dhul Qarnian, Dhu Jadan etc. So I think Dhu is much appropriate because it is inline with these names. Zu is a mispronunciation of Dhu. Also Shenatir is obviously a mispronunciation of Shanatir.--SharabSalam (talk) 21:45, 9 November 2019 (UTC)
- I quite understand. This crops up a lot in geneaology, where an ancestors name might be spelled several different ways, depending on what the clerk who filled out the forms thought they heard.--Auric talk 21:52, 9 November 2019 (UTC)

Kst (Software)
I observed your have done some spelling corrections and cite reFills on Draft:Kst (plotting software). Thankyou. However I have become concerned with content fork from the previous incarnation of the article. I have therefore elected decided to proceed with a WP:REFUND of the originally deleted article at Draft:kst (software) and have merged content from Draft:Kst (plotting software) to it ... although it is a rough merge and cleanup and improvement is needed and you are of course welcome to participate. I expect to request delete of Draft:Kst (plotting software) shortly. Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:24, 13 November 2019 (UTC)

Zhang Dinghuan
I just finished my brief edit as noted earlier. Also checked overall organization of the article both with phone mode browser and desk top mode browser. In the desktop browser mode there is a table of contents which clearly shows the organization. This is missing on my phone browser. If your phone browser is missing the table of contents it is a handicap for this article which is long.
I also checked the tables and floating images. They are best used with the phone in a horizontal mode. Horizontal in desktop mode is best since you have control over size. But horizontal phone mode is also ok to my eyes. I have screen shots but don't know how to post them in this talk
My editing is basically done at this point since I don't know what numerous people want. You can make it more compact by cutting tables and vignettes. You can also rehash the whole thing by subject matter or timeline or something else like taking out all tables and use bullet points, or chop it up to several entries. My goal is to provide an article with substance and some color of life. That is the reason it is long. Now it is in your good hands. If you wish to edit further, the full table of contents will be helpful. QSandai (talk) 17:12, 10 November 2019 (UTC)
Looks like the talk template doesn't allow images. No screen shots then 😀

Edit conflict :)
Hi Auric,
feel free to re-instate any changes to When the Lights Go Down (book) you would now like to make. I had to prevent an edit conflict for a rather unusual case of attribution preservation, see the history now. I hope you don't mind. :) ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:22, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for letting me know. I'm still puzzled as to why it was necessary.--Auric talk 22:27, 5 December 2019 (UTC)
- It may have been unnecessary, but I wanted to be completely sure that the attribution requirement of WP:RD1 ("If redacting a revision would remove any contributor's attribution, this criterion cannot be used") is satisfied. I did so by manually undoing and doing the edit again, with a detailed attribution summary. This way, even the revisions between 2014-01-22T13:26:02 and 2019-12-05T22:16:08 are completely attributed to everyone who has contributed to them. This would perhaps not have been the case without my revert. ~ ToBeFree (talk) 22:34, 5 December 2019 (UTC)

Question about podcast editing
Hi, Auric. I'm reaching out to you as you're an active member of WikiProject Podcasting and I have a question about said topic! Over the past year or so, the musician and Oscar-winning filmmaker Shawn Christensen has been directing podcasts for Dick Wolf. As you're well-versed with the subject of podcasting, do you have a recommendation for how to go about listing his credits for narrative podcasts? DÅRTHBØTTØ (T•C) 22:06, 18 January 2020 (UTC)

- Sorry, but these are technical question I'm not prepared to answer.--Auric talk 22:15, 20 January 2020 (UTC)

- Removal of
|dead-url=yes
is a valid fix. In cs1|2,|dead-url=yes
was the default case whenever|archive-url=
had a value. In other words, cs1|2 with|dead-url=yes
rendered the same as|dead-url=
and the same when that parameter was omitted. That same holds true for|url-status=dead

- Because there was no need to include
|dead-url=yes
and there is no need to include|url-status=dead
, where these parameters occur they may be safely removed as I did. - You appear to blame me for an edit conflict. That is unwarranted. None of us can know that another is simultaneously editing a page.

- So why does it say Unknown parameter |dead-url= ignored (|url-status= suggested) , instead of advising removal?.
- Also, I'm not blaming you. I'm just stating what happened. --Auric talk 12:17, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
- cs1|2 evaluates every parameter name that has an assigned value (empty parameters are ignored). When a parameter name is not recognized as valid, cs1|2 emits the Unknown parameter

does, it suggests the equivalent parameter name. The assigned value plays no part in this so cs1|2 emits the same error message regardless of the parameter's assigned value:{{cite web |title=Title |url=//example.com |archive-url=//archive.org |archive-date=2020-08-07 |dead-url=yes}}

Hello Dear @Auric:, I am writing as the author of an article - Draft:Ako Akhalaia. I, myself, am One of the contributors and editors of Georgian Wikipedia. It’s been a while since my submitted article is in the drafts section. You say that person - Ako Akhalaia does not meet the recognition criteria, and the article needs additional resources. Fifteen certified links accompany the article. Here are the leading media agencies of Georgia, the Public Broadcaster, etc. He is Also the official Representative of the Cannes Lions Festival in Georgia + Publisher of Harvard Business Review. This person is the founder of the most popular Marketing magazine in Georgia. His awareness in this area is very high. You can quickly check and verify this. Hello there! In 2018, you added August 27 as George Jetson's birthday, do you have a source for this? An observation
Hey, Auric,
You must have found a way to search drafts for specific content or phrases because I'm reviewing lots of expiring drafts about TikTok users and the commonality is that you made the last edit to the pages way back in early December. I think you improved all of the drafts but the page creators never returned to work on them so they have become stale. But I've been thinking, as I have been looking at drafts this week, how can we have so many drafts expiring about folks talking about being influencers and being on TikTok? It was only later that I noticed you had edited most of them! I know of another editor who searches for "Roblox" on drafts because most of the pages are deletable so I guess this searching for terms can be done just through regular search tools? Just curious. Thank you for your work improving drafts! Liz Read! Talk! 20:51, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
- Searching in draft space isn't that hard. On the search results page, click and expand the "Search in" bar. Click in where you see "Add namespaces" and type draft. Select it and then remove "Article" from the selected spaces. Search again.--Auric talk 10:52, 10 June 2022 (UTC)
The article Bruno the Bandit has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Only one secondary source. No further sources found in a WP:BEFORE. Web Cartoonist's Choice Award has been deemed insufficient for notability in previous deletion discussions.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Signpost article
Hi @Auric, I'm doing a Signpost article on userboxes, and selected your name as one of five users to be interviewed. I have some questions about your experience in userboxes:
- How did you first get into userboxes?
- How long have you been using/creating userboxes?
- Why do you like userboxes?
- What's your favorite userbox and why?
Thanks in advance for your input. Regards, Urban Versis 32KB ⚡ (talk / contribs) 02:09, 27 July 2022 (UTC)
- I don't really remember when I got into userboxes, they've been around that long. It took awhile till I was sure enough to create my own, not just fixing others.
- I like userboxes because they sometimes need fixing as one image may need replacing and it can be a challenge to find one. Sometimes I have to use a text effect to replace it. I don't really have a favourite userbox, they all had a little something different. --Auric talk 15:14, 27 July 2022 (UTC)

Understanding the pain of starting a potential WikiProject
Hello, Auric!
I happened upon your page while looking through recent changes, stuck around because Auric is a title that I have used for a character, and noticed that, (5 years ago?) you had started a WikiProject that fell through because no one else had shown interest in it.
I also want to start a WP that I doubt will become official, and I haven't gone through the process for that reason. I'm just here to say that I understand the pain of coming up with a project that you have passion for, but for which other people don't. I made a page for the project in userspace, and it's just hitting me that I might be the only one working on it, even though I put in all the work to make the group's page cohesive.
I'm curious: after attempting to make the group, how much work did you get done on improving Lovecraft's articles? I hope you got some help outside of a formal project, at least. (or I suppose that's what I'm hoping for myself in all this).
I hope you can understand what I'm coming from and that I haven't confused you with my sudden, long message. Thank you! > Tesseractic: talk? ✎

Hello Auric, In the insecticide page in the section on systemic insecticides you removed the links from the terms "xylem", "phloem", and "seed treatment". Query
Hello, Auric,
I've wondered this for a while, why do you make minor edits to drafts like Draft:Quinton Khumalo just when they are approaching their six month expiration date as a stale draft? I've been seeing this for years and it doesn't seem to depend on the quality of the draft...I don't see that this draft is worth preserving in case the draft creator chooses to return. I'm just curious, thanks. Liz Read! Talk! 02:41, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
- In this case it was because he was a youtuber. The timing has nothing to do with it. Sometimes I will pass up editing if the draft is properly formatted or if it doesn't seem there is any possibility for expansion.--Auric talk 13:34, 27 June 2024 (UTC)
