Need a microfilm from St Pancras, London (British Library)
[edit]I need a London resident willing to go to the British Library at St Pancras and scan the microfilm of a 1965 Evening Standard article.
(The article is not available on Newspapers.com; see my previous WP:RX request here [1].)
Relevant details:
- Evening Standard
- Title appears to be: "IT'S THE GHOST OF LILLIE LANGTRY - AS QUEER THINGS HAPPEN IN HER OLD HOME".
- Date of the article is April 2, 1965.
- One exact quote I've seen attributed several times to it is "Langtry's ghost appeared one day".
I need a copy of the article in full (it has been excerpted in at least one book and a few news articles), which is why I need the microfilm. I also need the page number.
Article being improved: Lillie Langtry
My email address is softlavenderwiki@gmail.com

[edit]- Friedman, Norman (1988). British Carrier Aviation: The Evolution of the Ships and Their Aircraft. Annapolis, Maryland: Naval Institute Press. ISBN 0-87021-054-8.
For HMS Albion (R07). Ideally, the whole chapter for the Hermes/Centaur class carriers (to cross reference with my sources). If that is not possible, pages 262 and 267 would be fine.
Thanks! SpanCan (talk) 04:12, 1 March 2024 (UTC)
- @SpanCan:
- My university doesn't have this, but another public university in the same state does, so I should be able to get this easily through the consortium, whether as a scan of some pages or the full book in print.
- From careful searching of Google Books, it looks like those pages are contained in chapter 12 "The Last Carriers" (pp. 245-267), so I've requested a scan of that chapter. If you contact me via Special:EmailUser, I'll send you the PDF once I receive it.
- FYI, according to HathiTrust, "Hermes" is mentioned on 100 pages throughout the book, and "Centaur" is mentioned on 16 pages; you should be able to see the list of pages and how many occurences are on each page if you click on the links and then click on the search buttons.
- Let me know if you'd like me to request any more scans, or to request the whole book to look through it myself.
- BTW, it looks like Internet Archive has various books that cite it and might be useful themselves: https://archive.org/search?query=%22The+Evolution+of+the+Ships+and+Their+Aircraft%22+Hermes+Centaur&sin=TXT

- I see, yeah, hmm...
- It looks like OCLC 2246774, 85447201 (apparently both list the same holdings) exists in print at my university, so I'll look for it. It does list v. 81 (2000), but it apparently skips v. 78 (1997), which all but one of them are in...
- I have access to GeoRef though my university's EBSCOhost, which indicates that these are part of the supplement, which I guess is less available... It also says that they're abstracts from the conference "American Geophysical Union 1997 fall meeting. San Francisco, CA, United States, Dec. 8-12, 1997", so I'll try requesting interlibrary loans from OCLC 31671675 if I can't find them in print here.

- I've attempted to request these from OCLC 31671675.
- I also found that HathiTrust says that "volatiles in the most recent eruptions of Aniakchak Volcano, Alaska" appears on p. 276 of Eos v.81 no.48 2000, so I might try to look for that myself at some point.

- @Jo-Jo Eumerus: [5]/[6]/[7]/[8]/[9]/[10]/[11] says that "Chemical Characteristics of the Aniakchak Caldera Ash-Flow Sheet" is p. 180 in a supplement. [12] confirms that it's the fall supplement, and that it's abstract GP22A-06. Should I try requesting an ILL for a scan of it from page F180?

For Pudella carlae.
From the Barrio, Gutiérrez & D'Elía paper, data on size of the described species is needed. Like height and weight, because currently we have rather imprecise "less than 17 inches" from Miami Herald.
As for El Mercurio, it would be great if someone with access/subscription will archive it on Web Archive without paywall.

"? For Sabancaya, Ampato and Coropuna
Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 17:30, 10 January 2024 (UTC)
- This looks like it should be available in the Bibliothèque de l’Université Laval: https://ulaval.on.worldcat.org/oclc/1131592761
- It's from Université Blaise-Pascal, Clermont-Ferrand according to https://journals.openedition.org/quaternaire/3362?lang=en, https://www.academia.edu/83774815/Evaluaci%C3%B3n_del_riesgo_volc%C3%A1nico_en_el_sur_del_Per%C3%BA_situaci%C3%B3n_de_la_vigilancia_actual_y_requerimientos_de_monitoreo_en_el_futuro, and https://www.google.com/books/edition/L_%C3%A9rosion_entre_soci%C3%A9t%C3%A9_climat_et_pal/80a5ZHMRcS0C?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Fluctuations+glaciaires+et+t%C3%A9phrostratigraphie+dans+les+montagnes+intertropicales%22&pg=PA182&printsec=frontcover.
- I can try requesting an interlibrary loan if you'd like, but I'm in the US, so I'm not sure if it'll actually work.

- Yes, please. There is not enough information on glaciation on Ampato and Coropuna otherwise. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- It's also rather long, so I'm hesitant to request a scan of the whole thing... Should I try contacting the author via the email address listed in https://journals.openedition.org/quaternaire/3362, or via the form at http://seblamadon-photos.com/contact/?
- Alternatively, are these enough? If there are any that you can't access (check the Wikipedia Library if direct access doesn't work), let me know and I'll send you it.

- I only need this one. Granted, the problem is that most of these sources discuss the Hualca Hualca-Sabancaya-Ampato massif in general, often focusing on Hualca Hualca, and not on Ampato. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 08:02, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- It looks like the full-text for that one is available through the ResearchGate link I provided. Are you unable to access it, or do you not trust it to be accurate?
- Meanwhile, I also found the following, mostly from searching my university's ProQuest subscription for
(Sabancaya OR Ampato OR Coropuna) glaciation
, but I know basically nothing about geology, so I'm not sure how useful they are:- https://www-tandfonline-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/doi/full/10.1080/10106049.2015.1059902

- Sorry for not getting back to this earlier, but upon re-reading, I'm afraid that I need the DEA source (at least the pages that mention Ampato). These other sources leave too much off. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 10:58, 28 February 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, please. There is not enough information on glaciation on Ampato and Coropuna otherwise. Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 07:55, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- Here's as much bibliographic information as I can find:
- The title is Fluctuations glaciaires et téphrostratigraphie dans les montagnes intertropicales and the subtitle is une revue et application dans les Andes du Sud du Pérou (massifs des Nevados Ampato et Coropuna) (some citations have typos, especially in the subtitle, but these seem to be the consensus)
- The date is 1999
- The author is S. Lamadon (probably Sébastien Lamadon)
- It is 180 or 205 pages long
- It's an unpublished Mémoire de DEA (basically a master's thesis) from Université Blaise-Pascal, Clermont-Ferrand
- Monsieur J-Cl. Thouret (probably Jean‑Claude Thouret) of the Département de Géographie supervised it
- Some citations: [13], [14], [15], [16]/[17], [18]
- Additional sources: [19], [20]
- Accordingly, here's a templated citation: Lamadon, Sébastien (1999).
- HAL doesn't seem to have it. I tried to check theses.fr (e.g. https://www.theses.fr/026403102), but it doesn't seem to be working for me right now...
- I thought Université Laval had it, but I didn't notice that the title is generic and what it has is from Université de Paris.
- I guess I could try emailing the author if you insist, but if that doesn't work, it's up to you if you want to attempt anything else. I am happy to provide the other sources I mentioned, if you're interested.

Arequipa:(bio-bibliografía de arequipeños contemporáneos)
[edit]Greetings, has someone access to "Bermejo, Vladimiro. Arequipa:(bio-bibliografía de arequipeños contemporáneos). Vol. 1. Establecimientos Gráficos La Colmena, 1954."? For Pichu Pichu, Chachani and Misti.
Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 13:28, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
- Searching HathiTrust for those keywords (Google Books shows that just searching for "Misti" finds random word bits too, so I searched for "el Misti" and "del Misti" instead) finds pp. 3, 4, 5, 8, 11, 42, 62, 64, 68, 70, 196, 205, 210, 251, 259, 261, 288, so I've requested an ILL for pp. "-12,61-71,195-211,250-62,287-9" of OCLC 484337. The only mention on p. 42 is in the beginning of some kind of poem, which appears to be available for free online in various places, e.g. [21], [22], [23], [24], so I've reproduced the part I can see below and omitted it from the pages I requested:

Marc Dolan's Bruce Springsteen and the Promise of Rock 'n' Roll
[edit]- Dolan, Marc (2012). Bruce Springsteen and the Promise of Rock 'n' Roll. New York City: W. W. Norton & Company. ISBN 978-0-39308-135-0.
For Nebraska (album) and Born in the U.S.A.
I'm looking for any pages that discuss the above two albums in detail (years 1981 to 1985/86). The last page I have access to is page 187 so that would be the recommended starting point.
Thanks, – zmbro (talk) (cont) 20:47, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- I can see search results on Internet Archive and Google Books, and my university has this in print. I should be able to do this at some point this week.
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:33, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- Based on search results and the index, it looks like pp. 190-211, 213-214, 218, 220-221, 229-230, 235, 240-242, 246-247, 262, 268-269, 276, 286, 290, 293, 306-307, 309, 313, 317-319, 327, 332, 347, 360-361, 364, 375-376, 383, 386-387, 389-390, 394-396, 398, 407, 411, 436-437, 470, 473, 475-476, 484 mention one or both of the albums (not including the songs, singles, or tours except by accident). I'll try to see if relevant content continues onto a preceding or succeeding page. I'll also include the front and back matter (e.g. table of contents, sources and notes, index).
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 15:54, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Zmbro: I sent you this by email on February 22nd.
- Solomon Ucko (talk) Solomon Ucko (talk) 07:04, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hey Sollyucko my apologies for missing this your message got buried in my emails. I also haven't been on WP as much the last few weeks as well. Looking at your images now, I'm sorry to be a burden, but would you actually be able to send all of chapter 8? I noticed there's a few missing pages that talk about the BitUSA tour and accompanying singles that would be helpful. If not I have more sources that would likely do the trick :-) Thanks again and sorry for the late reply! – zmbro (talk) (cont) 18:40, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zmbro:
- Got it, no problem! It looks like the missing pages are pp. 212, 215-217, 219, 222-228, 231-234, 236; Part Three starts on p. 237. Searching the index, Google Books, and Internet Archive, it looks like all of those pages mention the title of a single or one of the words "tour", "set", or "perform", so I've photographed them and added them to the same album I sent you a link to. Let me know if I missed anything at any stage.
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:09, 11 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sollyucko Could I also get pages 188 and 189 please? I'm going through all the photos now so that should be the last request :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 21:00, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zmbro: Ok, I'll take a look and see if they have anything plausibly relevant, or else decide if being context for the succeeding pages is enough to justify sending them.
- I'm currently home for Spring Break, but I should be back by March 25th. Are you okay with waiting until then, or should I try to request a scan of it via interlibrary loan / document delivery and see if that's faster?
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 04:42, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah no problem! Those pages are some background to Nebraska which I'll be doing after Born in the U.S.A. so I'm good with waiting til you're back. No rush. :-) – zmbro (talk) (cont) 17:38, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zmbro: I see, makes sense. I've now added those pages to the same place. Solomon Ucko (talk) 17:12, 25 March 2024 (UTC)
- Got it. I think we should be all set now. Thanks again for your help! I really appreciate it. If I need any other pages in the future would you mind if I reached out again? Sollyucko – zmbro (talk) (cont) 16:31, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zmbro:
- Alright, sounds good! If you think that's it for now, please mark this request as {{resolved}}.
- I've already sent you a lot of pages from this book, perhaps pushing the limit of what US copyright law allows. I can probably send you a few more pages, but if you need a lot more, I'd recommend that you purchase your own copy of the book. At any point in the future, feel free to reach out to me by any means to ask for more pages or information, and I'll let you know if I'm okay with doing it and how soon I expect to be able to do it.
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 18:14, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Yep no problem. Thanks again.

Persian miniature enigma
[edit]Help! I cannot find a reference for this image. It is claimed as "Fatimid" (but this is extremely unlikely in my opinion, the style is more like 14th century Ilkhanid or Jalayarid) and currently appears in the Arabic miniature article. Can someone confirm that the language of the text in the miniature is Persian, rather than Arabic? I would personally bet for a version of the Great Mongol Shahnameh. Any thoughts? Any RS reference for this image? पाटलिपुत्र (Pataliputra) (talk) 09:48, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

Thanks, Jaguarnik (talk) 19:13, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
- @Jaguarnik:
- I can try to request an interlibrary loan for this if you'd like, but note that WP:RSP says that Who's Who (UK) is considered "generally unreliable". Also note that that the summary there and [26] say that it is (primarily) written by the subjects themselves, so make sure to take WP:ABOUTSELF into account if you do decide to use it.
- Solomon Ucko (talk) 06:25, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- This is interesting. The AfD closed with a decision to keep the page as it was decided that Who's Who was a reliable enough proof of notability, and I didn't know enough about Who's Who at the time to contest it, but I don't really want to re-open the AfD. I'll withdraw my request. Thank you very much though. Jaguarnik (talk) 18:04, 11 March 2024 (UTC)

Maned wolf in Rotterdam Zoo
[edit]{{resolved}}
For Maned wolf, incomplete citation in Hunting and territoriality section.
I don't know the title, but it's in Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, was published in 2006 on September 2nd (or February 9th), it's apperantly on the 3rd page of print edition. And it should be about police visit to Rotterdam Zoo, caused by maned wolf specific scent.
I tried searching myself, but search function on SZ website is a bit lacking. SZ has two archives: one is navigable by date+category (and I don't know the category), the other is less-than-open.

DoB Irene Gut Opdyke
[edit]{{resolved}} Can anyone find an authoritative source for the birth date of Irene Gut Opdyke? External links includes obituary at timesonline.com (subscription required) and it might have reliable information.
The article currently says "5 May 1922 – 17 May 2003". However, ref 1 implies Opdyke was born in 1918 (85 in 2003 and 25 in 1943). Ref 2 says 1922-2003. However, ref 2 might have been copied from Wikipedia—it seems several other websites have done that. An obituary at washingtonpost.com confirms the death date. Thanks. - @Johnuniq:
- You should have access to the Times obituary through the Wikipedia Library: https://link-gale-com.wikipedialibrary.idm.oclc.org/apps/doc/IF0501595525/TTDA?u=wikipedia&sid=bookmark-TTDA&xid=27fea58f

Rotaciurca article

I am currently planning to create the Rotaciurca article, and need an accessible version of the paper to do so, however all versions of the article are paywalled and have no available PDFs. In addition, the Wikipedia Library doesn’t have a free version of the paper either.
