Macedonia
[edit]Dear @StephenMacky1, I saw that you reversed my edit. Another user actually asked for a source. That's why I used it. Also what do you mean "is not used". Of coursed it was used. In all global events, the country was represented under that name, and the half of the world +the UN recognized the country under that name. I think it's obvious. Also, it is completely mistaken to use the state of North Macedonia, as the first(!) option for the term reference. Actually, the only one that could refer with that term after the Prespa Agrrement, is someone that supports the ideology of "Macedonian" nationalism (actually pseudonationalism). Please, rethink your edit. Greek Rebel (talk) 16:59, 1 November 2024 (UTC)
- Well, I guess the editor was mistaken. The disambiguation page is about the term "Macedonia" though, so there is no reason to insert the provisional reference there. I have no opinion about the order of the list itself. There are many sources and countries that used the former official name for the country as well. That has nothing to do with Macedonian nationalism whatsoever. Wikipedia goes by MOS:MAC. If you have concerns about this, you should discuss it on that page. - @StephenMacky1 Yes, there were a lot of sources that referred as "Macedonia" (at the past, because now anyone except the country's nationalists refer as that) but there are also a lot of sources that used the name FYROM, plus the fact that the country was officially represented as FYROM. I do not understand, why to remove the term FYROM? About the order, I think that first of all, the right think to do is to declare that the term "Macedonia" in the broad sense refers to the region. Then, is it not a bit strange, that the only "Macedonia" which according to the signed agreements, but also based on the sources from 2018 onwards, is first in line? Greek Macedonia could officially called "Macedonia". The ancient kingdom of Macedonia is also called "Macedonia" plainly. In contrast, the only ones who today refer to North Macedonia as simply "Macedonia" are those who embrace the political ideology of "ethnic Macedonian" nationalism. And for them we still leave it on this list. Greek Rebel (talk) 21:10, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- You can discuss about the order of the list on the article's talk page. Let's see what others have to say about it. Per MOS:MAC:
The term former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia or any of its abbreviations will not be used.
Of course there are exceptions, especially when discussing the Macedonia naming dispute. Wikipedia only uses the former official name of the country when referring to it in a historical context, or to be more exact, for events before it was renamed to North Macedonia. StephenMacky1 (talk) 21:32, 2 November 2024 (UTC)- @StephenMacky1 I saw it right now. This instruction is extremely problematic. I opened a discussion, at the talk page of MOS:MAC. Who wrote it, and why? I am also going to open a discussion in the page, about the order. Greek Rebel (talk) 02:19, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
