Vasily Katanyan's Memoirs, sourcing an image
[edit]{{resolved}}
- Katanyan, Vasily (1998). Воспоминания [Memoirs] (in Russian). p. 128.
The photograph 1918 vmayakovsky-lbrik retouched.jpg is used in the article Lilya Brik. The metadata on Commons states that it was taken in 1918 and "appeared retouched in official Soviet publications" in the 1960s, but AFAICT this is insufficient to establish that the image is in the public domain in Russia or the United States. I am hoping that the book from which the photograph was sourced may have additional information. Therefore, if the photograph appears on page 128 but is described in neighboring pages, I request those pages as well.
Thanks, jlwoodwa (talk) 02:28, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
- @Jlwoodwa:, the book title is Прикосновение к идолам and the accompanying text is Верхнее фото снято в 1918 г. во дворе кинофабрики "Нептун". В шестидесятых годах цензура заретуширует JI. Брик и оставит поэта наедине с деревом. Send email and i can reply with the page with the photos, and p. 135 which i think discusses retouching the photo, best can do searching in Cyrillic anyway. fiveby(zero) 02:05, 1 September 2023 (UTC)

- Yes, you can read the foreward at the publisher's site, Ruddar Datt died in 2009, Gaurav Datt is his son and now listed. Don't know about K.P.M. Sundharam. It's a textbook, frequently revised so it can be frequently sold to students. fiveby(zero) 03:41, 24 September 2023 (UTC)

Milwaukee Journal article on Forever Young, Forever Free
[edit]As I was taking care of old article drafts in my user subpages from yesterday evening till today's overnight (a process I'll resume soon enough), I approached the one for a little-seen 1975 South African family film called Forever Young, Forever Free (a.k.a. e'Lollipop). Back when I set up the draft in mid-July 2011, I left in a GNewspapers link to a Milwaukee Journal article from ca. 1976–78 mentioning U.S. distributor Universal's decision to shelve the film. That very link, news.google.com/newspapers?id=9lYaAAAAIBAJ&sjid=PSoEAAAAIBAJ&dq=forever-young-forever-free&pg=6179%2C1411996, is no longer around due to licensing issues; the current Journal-Sentinel team switched to a partnership with NewsLibrary by the late 2010s. (Not even Wayback has it preserved, to my dismay; why do such things tend to happen to me?)
Fourth of July tomorrow or not, I'd preferably like someone from Wisconsin or nearby to fetch the story from library microfilm/database or otherwise—en route to the last missing piece this article needs. (Bonus points if more material is unveiled.) With luck, we might aim for GA status sometime down the road.
Best wishes,
Slgrandson (How's my egg-throwing coleslaw?) 21:00, 3 July 2023 (UTC)

Thanks, Jo-Jo Eumerus (talk) 19:00, 28 August 2023 (UTC)
- Jo-Jo Eumerus, the only match in this one is on p. 352, as follows: "The rarest of the world's six species of flamingos is Phoenicoparrus jamesi. Our fieldwork extended its known geographic range and located another breeding colony. On November 24, 1975, we observed 14 P. Jamesi feeding in very shallow channels along the western margin of Salar de Pedernales, Chile; this is about 300 kilometers farther south than this species has been found previously, except for the very unusual sighting of two individuals in Patagonia more recently (Muñoz and Muñoz, 1975). Accompanying the P. jamesi in Salar de Pedernales were 12 P. chilensis and 12 P. andinus." Happy to scan the whole thing for you if you want it, but I'm guessing this is all you need. San Francisco Chronicle archives
[edit]I am requesting three articles from the San Francisco Chronicle archives.
- August 13, 1961. Book review.
- January 3, 1967. Wedding announcement.
- November 14, 1969. Lecture announcement
The following link lists four articles, but I already have access to the one dated August 11, 1999, as it is available online, so I only need the three for 1961, 1967, and 1969. Except for the links, dates, and general descriptions, I don't have access to the exact titles and bylines (if any) as you can see from the link to the images of the articles.

Archival copies of Ajit (newspaper)
Ajit (in Punjabi). 15 May 1991. pp. 3–4.
If it helps the search:
- The title of the newspaper in Punjabi is ਅਜੀਤ, and
- The title of the article translates to "Khalistan Liberation Force militant Major Singh Johal Pala killed himself with cyanide."
And, more generally, are old copies of the newspaper (circa 1980s) archived anywhere?

2011/2012 issue of Animania (German manga magazine)

For Blue Friend (manga). This review from the Animania 2011 end-of-the-year double issue is already cited in de:Blue Friend, which is where I got the material that's currently in the enwp article, but I have to assume that there's more. This would be very useful when expanding the reception section, and I would be very grateful for a scan or a clear photo of the page in question.

History, July 8
[edit]{{stale}} Hi guys. It looks like WP Library now has an awesomely comprehensive search engine across all my available libraries, such as EBSCO and friends, right? That's too good to be true, so does it work like it appears? Thanks to everybody involved.
1) Does anybody have the full contents of this article titled "THE STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL OF FRONTIER BAPTISTS: THE ANTI-MISSION CONTROVERSY IN THE LOWER WABASH VALLEY"? This inquiry is for Isaac McCoy and possibly others: his associates (Johnston Lykins and Jotham Meeker), and their missions (Carey Mission and Pottawatomie Baptist Mission Building).
2) I'm looking for the Lexington Express article cited in "Seizure of Arms". I know 1800s newspapers like to change their names all the time, and I found one mention of "Lexington Weekly Tribune". The closest I can find to "Lexington Weekly Express" is this collection of 8 pages. And do you have this {{cite news| newspaper=Daily Missouri Democrat|date=March 18, 1856}} which is also related to the Arabia? That's all I can find on newspapers.com.
Thank you so very much. — Smuckola(talk) 02:44, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Smuckola: #1 can be accessed via JSTOR here. DanCherek (talk) 02:48, 9 July 2023 (UTC)
- For #2, that appears to be the correct paper. The Library of Congress notes that the Lexington Weekly Express earlier didn't have "Weekly" in the title. There may be other archives with copies, although the LOC does not note any with the right date range. —Usernameunique (talk) 00:25, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Khachaturian's Masquerade
[edit]{{stale}}
- Classic CD. ISSN 1070-4574 - Issues 44-56 / 1994 "Khachaturian makes no claims at profundity. Yet you'd have to be pretty hard hearted not to resist the charms of the Waltz from Masquerade, or the physical exhilaration of the "Sabre Dance" particularly when they are delivered..."
Dance Now - Volumes 8-9 - Page 36 / 1999 "The apparently armless woman who opens the piece is a vision of courage against the odds, with her bold red dress, her radiant smile and her loudly romantic Khachaturian waltz music..."Theatre Record - Volume 19, Issues 1-8 - Page 95 / 1999 "The opening image is of a woman in a red dress, centre stage, smiling as she hears a Khachaturian waltz. She seems to want to dance, but has no arms..."

First Mansion
[edit]Hello! I'm looking for a complete copy of this newspaper article ("First Mansion Is Leased: Others Get Leasehold on 12th and Washington Corner". Kansas City Star. November 18, 1923. p. 1F.). I can't find it on newspapers.com. It's intended to go into Johnston Lykins and maybe Kansas City, Missouri. Thank you! — Smuckola(talk) 00:57, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Smuckola: That was a somewhat annoying search as none of the phrases from the library's article description brought up a hit. But I ended up finding the article in the 12 December issue.[7] I'm thinking that it may have been published too on Nov 18 but as filler for an early edition which would get pulled for other news, hence why the library thinks it was published then while newspapers.com has a different date. Meanderingbartender (talk) 14:40, 12 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Meanderingbartender: Thank you for your kind attention but that's a different article about the same story, which I had already found. The library abstract describes a lot of elaboration upon the history and such.
- I'm also looking for the Lexington Express article cited within another article, "Seizure of Arms". I know 1800s newspapers like to change their names all the time, and I found one mention of "Lexington Weekly Tribune". The closest I can find to "Lexington Weekly Express" is this collection of 8 pages. - I did a bit of searching but I had no luck. American pre-Civil War newspapers, as you already expressed, is a hodgepod of different titles, some lasting just a few issues. Have you looked the library of congress's newspaper site?[8] The LoC records are great to see if a title did actually exist during a time that you are looking for it. Both the Express and the Democrat existed and would have published on those dates. You may want to check with KC public library. They may be willing to help. Tell them you are doing it for Wikipedia. Flightglobal World Airline Directory archives for Lufthansa German Airlines, circa 1980, to check the airline's headquarters address
[edit]For Wikidata entry for Lufthansa
Dear editors,
I am trying to find what address Lufthansa was at in 1980. Previously Flightglobal had easy online access to PDF archives from previous decades, and I used online PDFs to find addresses of airlines. However it seems Flightglobal has yanked these, and not all of the PDFs were preserved by the wayback machine. I wonder if someone has access to Flightglobal and could peruse the World Airline Directory of that year, for airlines starting in "L," to find this info.
